Chapter 1: A Glaive Out Of Time
A great deal of time had passed since Caius Dragelion had been taken from Eos and brought to the world of Zephon. Alone and forced to start over with nothing, Caius had once again struck out as a mercenary as the realization slowly overcame him that he would never be able to return home and rejoin the Kingsglaive again. The time had come for Caius to find where he truly belonged.

The Lucian Kingsglaive turned Zephonian Mercenary ventured to the mountains in order to take down a monster that had been terrorizing a village. What Caius hadn't expected was that the village had been terrorized by multiple large beasts, most notably a dragon that had been released by some recent event in Zephon. It was there that Caius would meet a young summoner, and the two struck up an alliance in order to finish the job together. Coming face to face with a dragon of all things, the stubborn mercenary tackled the beast head on. The battle had been fierce, possibly the most dangerous and difficult of Caius’ life. At some point the summoner had disappeared as if into thin air, and Caius had assumed they had realized the gravity of the situation and fled - leaving Caius alone for a danger he was more than underprepared for. While in way over his head, Caius fought from underneath, attacking between the scales and when the monster would open its maws to shoot fire, he struck. While victorious, Caius was severely injured in the process. After the monster was felled, Caius came across a nest with a single egg. Realizing the gravity of what he had done, a guilt-stricken Caius took the egg to care for himself.

Finding his way to the Temple in order to recuperate from his wounds, Caius encounters Aranea Highwind, a Dragoon formerly from his own world. Originally astounded to meet someone from his own world for the first time, though curious as to how one he had witnessed when he was younger could still look the same as the day he'd first seen her, Caius would find out from Aranea that the cause of the Time of Darkness, Ardyn Izunia, was still alive and in this world. With an order not to physically engage him if found, Caius would leave Aranea's company with the promise they would reunite at another time. Hopefully with help if they were to one day take the monster down.

Some time ago, Caius had been hired by a group of travellers in order to escort them to a town. Fighting off the monsters that were blocking their passage, Caius finished the job and intended to part ways with his quarry. His quarry though, revealed themselves to be bandits who intended to ransack the town. Telling Caius that they would only pay him if he were to "escort" them through this operation, Caius had a choice to make. Deciding to walk away, Caius took a short detour to a little village nearby on his way to warn them of a bandit attack. The villagers were ready for Caius' former clients and they were arrested. Declining any sort of pay from the villagers, Caius took his fee from the bandits and went on his merry way.
Of course, all actions have consequences. Caius was accosted in town not long after that by the remaining bandits that had escaped arrest. Wanting the money he had taken, the bandits attacked Caius in the street. A woman attempted to break up the fight but found herself embroiled in the conflict herself. Using magic, she was able to quickly help Caius dispatch their quarry and make their escape. The woman, who went by Celes, didn't appear to be the biggest fan of Caius' lack of understanding or context when it came to certain terms relating to dating and romance, but she was certainly interested in getting out of town and doing something more her style. Grateful for her help and sympathetic to her plight, Caius promised to take her with him on a job at some point.

It seemed to be that people were falling from the sky all the time now. This time, Caius was witness to it when an off-worlder by the name of Zidane would quite literally fall from the sky. While Caius did his best to get Zidane acquainted with this new world, the duo would be interrupted by the appearance of a Behemoth. Faced with no choice but to fight, the combination of Caius' glaive abilities and Zidane's Trance form would be enough to put it down. Striking up a friendship with the newcomer, Caius would lead Zidane to town so the man would be able to make his start in Zephon, just as Caius once did long ago.

Fulfilling the promise that Caius had made to Celes before, Caius got in touch with the spellsword regarding a job he had taken to dispatch a beast that had been causing trouble and attacking travellers on the roads. While neither party were experts at conversation, the foundations of a friendship seemed to form as Caius found himself opening up for the first time. Their battle against a Behemoth was a rousing success, as the duo's chemistry was undeniable. Realizing he had found a partner he worked well with and missing the company of the Kingsglaive, Caius promised he would bring up more work to Celes later if it was suitable.

Celes Chere - Prompto Argentum
With a few jobs together under their belt by this point, Caius and Celes decided to investigate the rumours of a haunted mansion, with the owner promising the deed to the group that could decipher the mystery of the mansion. Meeting Prompto, Caius would find out that the chocobo-haired boy was a member of the Crownsguard, and a retainer to King Noctis himself. Revealing himself as a former Kingsglaive, Caius and Prompto made a promise to speak on the matter later. Traversing the mansion, the trio would be forced to deal with walls caving in, and an alter that needed blood in order to proceed. Deciding to put an end to Prompto and Celes' indecision, Caius stepped forward and provided the blood himself. This proved to be a mistake, as the blood would take form of a doppelgänger of Caius that used his abilities. Putting an end to it, the trio would make their way to an illusion-ridden dining hall and would be greeted by the cause of the mansion's condition - a Chadarnook. Battling the Chadarnook, the group were able to dispatch it and end the curse on the mansion.

Accompanying a band of mercenaries in order to stop another dragon who was a potential danger to the area, the group found the dragon asleep and not really hurting anybody. One of them, a girl named Yeul would step in when the group tried to hurt the dragon and Caius stepped in further when they tried to hurt her in turn. Quelling the other mercenaries, Caius and Yeul concocted a plan to peacefully lure the dragon away from where it would be a problem. In the process, the amnesia-stricken Yeul had found herself with false hopes that perhaps Caius was the Guardian she had lost. Due to his lack of memory of anything she described though, Yeul was soon disappointed to find that he was not the same Caius as hers. The two were able to lure the dragon away thanks to the dragon egg that Caius had taken from the cave, using the dragon's curiosity toward something that would interest it to get it out of range.

Investigating a cave said to contain undead, Caius and Celes would find something far worse - Daemons. Horrified that the monsters that plagued his world were now here as well, Caius and Celes would make their way through until they found the puppetmaster. A man named Cortez who had once been a nobleman to the Kingdom of Lucis. Caius quickly recognized Cortez as the man that had attempted to assassinate his liege, and had been sent into Zephon with him when he had given chase. Claiming grudges against the Lucian and Dragelion families for the wrongs they had inflicted on him, Cortez had become a master of daemons in order to gain his revenge, and to make the world see him for the genius he was. Forcing Caius and Celes to fight the daemon reanimated form of Caius' birth brother Elvioas Dragelion. Fooling them into thinking that Caius and Celes had killed his brother, Caius was forced to strike him down in order to set him free. With Caius' walls beginning to crumble around him when his brother finally recognized him before dying, Caius tried his best to steel himself but was struggling to hold on.
Revealing he had been the one to assassinate his birth family, as well as the one who found him and hired the bandits that had destroyed his life, Cortez appeared to revel in slowly torturing the target of his revenge. His next thrall was the reanimated Emily, the adopted sister from the farm Caius had grown up on, who Caius had been unable to save as a child. With his old regrets that he had pushed away bubbling up to the surface, Caius was unable to strike Emily down. With the reanimation clearly causing her great pain, Caius finally relented and pleaded for Cortez to stop. Realizing how far he had pushed Caius, Cortez obliged - Brutally destroying the reanimated Emily in front of Caius. Completely broken, Caius gave in to all of the emotions and feelings he had been bottling up for years, pure rage bringing him to attempt to murder Cortez. His rage though, made him unable to hit the calculated Cortez, who was clearly enjoying the pain he was causing. A desperate Caius used up every inch of magic he had in him, in a last ditch attempt to kill Cortez. The attack did not connect, and Cortez made his escape as Caius broke down. Now unable to even fight, a broken Caius needed to rely on Celes to get out of the cave. As she helped him out of the cave, Cortez's last words continued to ring through his head - "You are no threat to me".

Celes Chere
A bitter, frustrated and angry Caius set up camp a ways from the cave with Celes. Caius had used up every reserve of magic he had and then some, and could not even conjure his swords anymore. Left completely defenceless, Caius felt even more useless and thus, even more frustrated. Celes stepped up to the plate and comforted Caius best she could, though it was the revelation she intended to accompany him should he pursue Cortez that surprised Caius. Not being used to this sort of act of loyalty, Caius was completely taken aback and didn't know what to do. But the realization that he didn't have to be alone anymore hit him hard. But when a noise stirred them from their conversation, Caius and Celes would be shocked to find that the egg Caius had been taking care of had hatched into an infant Fire Drake.
Caius and Celes would decide to form a mercenary unit together. Hoping to help out others and protect the world around them, Caius, Celes and the newly hatched Vordun became the founding members of their new mercenary guild - The Dragonblades.
