Breathing. The ebb and flow of lifegiving breath tickled at Nyx’s lips reminding him he was alive. However, the numbing sensation he felt through his body made him question what reality he was about to wake to. Willing his eyes to open, Nyx was greeted with – well nothing. It was dark, like a void of nothingness that Nyx really did start to question if he was truly alive or if this was some crazy afterlife the God’s had so ‘kindly’ bestowed him. “Gods?” As the word slipped from his lips, he tried to focus on why he had thought that Gods were playing a cruel trick on him. Did he know any Gods? There was something pulling at him from the corners of his memory but Nyx couldn’t quite work out what. He closed his eyes again, if there was nothing to see then why open them? “Ugh, where am I?” His left arm came to rest on his forehead as he felt the familiar pains of headache forming. The sudden feel of flesh meeting flesh stirred his senses again – he could feel his finger tips on his face, there were rough like the skin had been burnt.
Nyx tried to ope his eyes again to make sense of what he was feeling but he was still only met with darkness. The was until he suddenly felt a pulling sensation over his hand, then running down his left arm. It was followed by soft green balls of light that appeared around his arm – it was then he could see what his arm was indeed charred but the light seemed to be stitching his skin back together. His scars healing under the soft touch leaving Nyx feeling calm yet confused. He could finally make some sense of where he was he was floating, suspended in a void of nothing and the numbing feeling wasn’t because his body was numb, it was because he was experiencing a feeling of weightlessness.
The healing stopped and Nyx closed his eyes as he was once again left in darkness. “This has to be the work of Gods.” It was like someone was pulling the strings in his brain for Nyx was suddenly thrown into a vision, or was it a memory?
You must take me back to King Regis.
Are you out of your mind!? Insomnia is a way zone.
I have a duty. I cannot neglect it.
Flashes of colourful and intense imagery filled his mind but nothing seemed to make sense. It was like his brain was trying to process these visions he was seeing – unable to place his part in it even though he was clearly in them it. It was then that Nyx realise that he wasn’t just seeing vision but memories but before he could try and piece it together he was thrown into another.
I do not fear death. What I fear is doing nothing and losing everything.
Again Nyx felt the tug of knowing, he knew this person but couldn’t work out how or why. By now he was freefalling. It was endless and always dark and all Nyx could do was try to hold on to these flashes, try and work them out. Was where he right now and what was he meant to do?
Hey Nyx, over here. Come on I bet you can’t catch me!
Hold up sis, you might fall in the water if you aren’t careful.
This memory made his heart ache. The vision of a young girl smiling at him, playing just by the river’s edge and calling for him to come was enough to send his mind somewhere dark. “That is my sister… She’s….” Before his brain could take him to that moment he didn’t want to remember he was thrown into another vision.
See **** safely to Altissia. This is not an order from a King to his Glaive. This is a please from one man to another.
That man… That’s right, Nyx was a glaive – a strong fighter who could use the King’s power as his own. A power that had once saved him was now the very power being used to protect that woman. But who was that woman… He frowned trying to recall the name that was on the tip of his tongue. “Lu-Lun- Princess-“ Once again another vision jumped into his view and Nyx was left feeling dizzy as he tried to deal with the overload of information.
You know I ain’t got the stomach for this crap.
Would you rather walk? Come on, just like Galahd Canyon back home.
A slight smirk formed on his lips, this man he knew well and Nyx finally felt like he was starting to hold onto his own memories now. “Libertus, my childhood friend – we both grew up in Galahd”. The vision of Libertus helped Nyx to piece together the fragments of himself that seemingly had been scattered – he was a Kingsglaive, an elite member of the King’s military and a user of borrow magic…
As long as I got strength in my body, I obey that order.
Don’t fool yourself, Nyx Ulric. Whatever strength you have is on loan from the King.
Something about this memory held him, it was like he was trying to remember something that someone had said to him. “Not all miracles are made by magic…” Before he could ponder the name of who said it, another vision pulled him back under the sea of darkness.
I had a little sister once. She was killed when the empire came… I couldn’t save her. I was as helpless then as I am now… I couldn’t show her the future she wanted.
True power is not something that is found by those who seek it. It is something that comes to those who deserve it.
This time he remembered “You don’t pull any punches, do you?” He spoke the words to her, to Princess Lunafreya. The very last person he protected before –
You're going to lose your precious ring. But it's not too late to save it.
You mean to barter for your life?
No, no. My life is nothing. Giving a future to those who want to see it is everything.
Nyx suddenly had a rush of awareness. He had been in Insomnia fighting for a future he wouldn’t get to see. “I thought of you and my sister when I said it – I wanted to honour my King and protect our future. I wanted to see it...but I knew what I was giving up.” Nyx let out soft sigh “So I guess that is what this is, I’m dead right?” Without warning Nyx began to fall. This time it was fast and he felt dizzy, it was worse than the first time he warped. Warp! He thought and quickly reached for his kukris, turning his body so that he was falling with his front facing the world that was quickly coming into focus.
He didn’t have time to think about what he was seeing. No time to consider that maybe he wasn’t dead at all. Instead his instincts lead him, he could see shapes start to form into city buildings followed by blinding lights as he’s eyes adjusted to his surroundings. ‘Just like in training’ he thought to himself, remembering back to when he was younger and learning how to warp from a tall tower in the training grounds of the Kingsglaive residence.
Without a second thought, Nyx threw his kukris at the fast approaching ground. His dagger landing neatly in the ground just in front of a giant statue. With a sudden burst of light, his body dispersed into a million little lights which was followed by a crack like thunder sound as he vanished only to reappeared in the stop his blade had caught. He had landed there in a crouch, call it a hero’s landing – little did he know just how ironic it was for him, the man given the name Hero, to land here in Legend Square of all places.
Nyx moved his body slowly to stand at his full height, his purple sashes dancing in the soft breeze behind him. He was only starting to get the feel of his body as the sensation of floating, freefalling and weightlessness left him. “I guess I can still use magic... But that doesn’t explain where I am.” He looked up to the full moon in the nights sky, not really paying attention to see if any night owls had noticed him. If they had they would see a man that looked like he had just come from battle. His armour was badly damaged and his left arm completely exposed having lost the sleeve. But he stood as if he was ready to fight again – nothing about the way he held himself would have you believe that he had indeed died and right now he had found himself in a new world.

"Nice landing."
Was it too casual? Perhaps it was, just a little bit. Was it fate that he was here at this specific time, at this moment? This world had worked in the strangest of ways for so long that Caius didn't even seem surprised anymore. What he did know was that he was walking out in the Square tonight because he was anxious. Trouble seemed to follow him like a beacon, and with Torensten's track record, that wasn't a good thing. But he would be here a bit longer than he had initially planned, or was really used to being in town for the most part. He had promised Jessie he would remain for the next week so he could see her show. Caius wasn't a man that broke his promises, so here he stayed. He had done his best to keep busy, giving Celes a hand with training the recruits to kind of offload her burdens a bit. Spending his free time fishing to replenish his food reserves (Vordun did require a lot of meat) and fixing things up around the house. But he just wasn't used to sticking around here without heading off on some job in the middle of nowhere. Perhaps he had spent too long getting too used to traveling around the world. Maybe this was a sign that he needed to stick a little closer to home more often?
Questions for later. Regardless of what had led him here, his little cool-down walk had led him to see something that was... Well... Interesting might be understating it just a little. That familiar flash of blue light as a weapon sailed through the air and a person soon accompanied it. At first he had thought perhaps it was His Majesty, but the form that was taken was definitely not Noctis. This Not-Noctis had suddenly armed himself and warped through the square, right in Caius' sight.
While Caius no longer wore the garb of the Kingsglaive (Though his new adornments certainly had their similarities) he definitely recognized those raiments when he saw them, even in the dark. The last thing he had expected to find here was another Kingsglaive, and at first he didn't really know what to say.
Perhaps that was why it was so casual, so out of place, the words he spoke. While the darkness made it hard to see fully, the man looked haggard. Perhaps a bit crazed considering was muttering to himself. He definitely looked like he had just been in a fight. Was there danger here? Caius saw none, but...
"Is there a reason you look like someone tried to saw off your arm?" came next. While he lacked tact, in his mind it might be best to try and disarm any potential itchy trigger fingers with dry humor.
There was a shooting star in the sky above, Nyx didn't remember the last time he had seen stars so clearly in the sky so he couldn't help but admire them. He knew this wasn't the first time he'd seen stars, but his mind was still a little foggy on the specifics of his life and these stars, well they seemed different. Less far away and out of reach. The stars he knew only made him think of a darker world in constant struggle, where the inhabitants tried to live with the constant threat of war. What Nyx didn’t realise is that it was quite possible that this place wasn’t so different to his home.
Tearing his gaze from the sky Nyx begun to take in his surroundings. He couldn't see any familiar landmarks; no everything was different. Where Insomnia had an industrial feel, and you could be forgiven for thinking it as a concrete jungle. This pace was rich with textures Nyx hadn’t seen in a city so big – it reminded him of something he had read in books about a very distance Insomnia of old. It was clear that magic was rich here – he could see the city lamps lit up by crystals. Crystals… that is right, he was trying to protect a crystal and that is how he ended up in this state. He pondered that a little more, was that right? Was that really what he was fighting to protect? Something told him that he couldn’t care less about the crystal and so that is the thought he kept – he wasn’t fighting to protect it.
Thinking of Insomnia took him back to comparing this foreign place with the cityscape inspired by a painter’s brush – a painter who favoured grey and blue as they delicately crafted the city he called home. It was then that Nyx realised he didn’t miss it, only hoped that what he had done helped to create a future. That was what he was fighting for.
Shifting his focus to his torn sleeve, Nyx reminisced about how he came to be this dishevelled. "Tch." Looking around again, the next thing that caught his attention were the statues. They seemed to be rather heroic figures, it reminded Nyx of the Old Wall statutes and it made him wonder who these people were. That is when he heard someone speak. The voice seemed to echo off the statues and Nyx final acknowledge that he wasn’t alone in this world. Actually the comment amused him and he couldn’t help but feel the corners of his lips curl into a small grin as he turned his head to find the source of the voice.
He didn’t have to look long as his eyes came to rest on a man with long blonde hair. Nyx noted that he wore a uniform but not one he had seen before, though the details did seem to loosely resemble his own. Maybe that is why Nyx casually responded to him “Fitting for a hero.” The words Nyx chose were pointed, he wondered if this man was familiar with the nickname given to Nyx. He was taking a stab in the dark here, hoping that maybe this was someone that knew of Insomnia and what was happening here. However, when the man spoke again Nyx didn’t hold any high hopes that he knew anything about Insomnia. Nyx chuckled “You should see the other guy.” He didn’t really respond rather he deflected the question with light humour but that quickly washed with his next question. “Where is this place?” He wasn’t harsh, it was a mater of fact question – simple and direct.

If the intention of Nyx was to get Caius to understand some sort of "Hero" reference when it came to the Kingsglaive, he would soon enough find himself disappointed. To Caius, the Kingsglaive weren't heroes and weren't treated as them by the citizens either. They had been soldiers doing what soldiers did, seeing as they were amongst the only ones who could stand up to the daemons as a legitimate threat. Heroes were appreciated most during times of peace, when the people had the time to appreciate them for what they were. The times that Caius grew up in were not these times.
Nor had he ever heard of that sort of nickname given to a specific Glaive. It was a gauche title, surely he would have remembered it if he'd heard it before. So his response was only a slightly amused smile. "Can't remember the last time I saw a man in black warping through the air" he commented, a hint at who Caius was. He had started examining the man's gear as soon as he had stood up. While he had his own variation, the gear did remind him of the Kingsglaive... But he would need to get a look at the back to see that insignia. The man soon enough asked where he was, which Caius took as his opportunity.
"You're in the Torensten Dukedom's capital city, also conveniently known as Torensten" he remarked casually as he motioned about around them, starting to pace about. "That look on your face says you're unfamiliar. You're on the continent of Zephon, a land that serves as a melting pot between different worlds and even different times within the same worlds. You're standing in Legend Square right now, a place where the people celebrate the legacies of heroes gone by, and those to come... Which sounds right up your alley" he finished with a joke, motioning to the giant statue before them. If it got Nyx's attention, he'd use the chance to peek at the back of the jacket...
There it was.
The insignia.
Cassius swallowed a moment. He'd seen one Kingsglaive here before, and now he couldn't remember their name or who they were much... The magic of this world had made sure of that. But this one, he could see him perfectly. It was like meeting another Glaive again for the first time in years, even if he didn't look like one of his own teammates.
"I never did catch your name. And title, if heroes give those out still."
Nyx eyed the young man curiously, he noted that the ‘hero’ comment had made no connection so that ruled out anyone that was tied to Kingsglaive – or at least the Kingsglaive that he knew. Shifting his weighted he continued to take in his surroundings, the sounds, and the smells – he was letting all his senses take it in and commit it to memory. Was there a place like this in Eos, no he really doubted there was, all Nyx could hope for was that this man would tell him where he was.
Before he could ponder further on the matter, Nyx was awarded with a small sign of something familiar. It got his attention and he focused his gaze once more on the man – ‘so you know of warping’. In Nyx’s mind it could only mean that he knew of the King’s power for it was only the King that could warp and lend others his power to do it too. “It’s a unique skill.” Nyx visibly relaxed, moving back into a casual stance. He didn’t feel threatened by this person, if anything this person seemed rather gentle in nature. An amusing observation given that he wore a uniform that clearly stated he was someone with a military background, maybe he was a new recruit.
Final Nyx was granted the knowledge he was seeking. “Torensten…” He let the word roll off his tongue – this was definitely not somewhere in Eos. Following the man’s moments, Nyx took more of him in. He figured he better pay close attention considering this was a place he was very unfamiliar with and possible very out of his depth in. The more the words flowed from his informants’ mouth, the more Nyx gave a puzzled look. It wasn’t the name of the city he was in, nor the name of the continent he was supposedly on. It was comment about being in different worlds and different times – this is what he found confusing. He knew the god’s worked in very strange ways but this, this was something else. Maybe he really had pissed them off when he told them to shove it before destroying the Crown city, but that could be it. Some nagging feeling told him that he was taken from his ‘world’ or rather ‘time’ and brought here. Maybe this was what his King had planned for him, a second chance at life and that is why he vouched for him when it came to using their ring.
Nyx closed his eyes and bowed his head, a light smile across his lips. “Saving my arse even in death.” He wasn’t making this comment to the man, it was said under his breath as Nyx chose to believe that Regis had indeed saved him and gave him new purpose once more – just like he had all those years ago when he was a kid. He tried to remember what Regis had saved him from but frowned when the memory was foggy and hazy – it seemed not all his memories had returned. Coming back to the conversation, Nyx looked behind him at the statue once more. “How ironic.” He couldn’t help but let out a light chuckle. “I guess it is fitting.”
Bring his gaze back to the man, Nyx smiled. “Likewise.” He said, referring to not knowing who this person was. “I am Ulric, Nyx Ulric. Royal guard and second in command of the Kingsglaive.” Nyx frowned briefly “But I am not sure if that matters now.” Nyx was lost in thought a moment as he tried to recall the last of his memories – he remembered, but he almost wished he couldn’t. "So, are you saying I was pulled here from my world?"

Of course it made no connection, he hadn't remembered a day where the Kingsglaive were heroes. They were just the lot that had failed their King once, and were now tasked with doing their job at least once in their lifetimes when Eos needed fighters. The real hero was the Chosen King, who had done, basically, all of the work. All the stories were about him. He would be the one to go down in legend amongst Lucians. The rest of them were just there to assist, nothing more. Not that those legends meant much for Caius anymore, considering he would never be able to go back to see how they turned out. He had played his part in saving his world. Now he was here to do the same in this one.
Nyx commented that Caius knew about warping, and that it was a unique skill. "So it is" he remarked in turn with a knowing smirk. Then it came. His introduction. Nyx Ulric. He didn't even have to say his title for Caius to know who he was. While Nyx had died over a decade ago, records were kept in the citadel of figures like that. And Caius had spent a good deal of his free time as a Glaive studying up on Lucian history, hoping to gleam some things that might help him do his job. A real load of good it did now, of course, but apparently it had become useful still in ways that Caius had not expected. This was one of those rare times. So he was a Kingsglaive from before the Era of Darkness. And one of their best, as he'd heard.
"Aye. Most of us were. I'm part of a mercenary guild that has a base in town, though. Least I can do is offer you a place to sleep there, considering how late it is. Gives me time to get in touch with His Highness and call him here, should you want to meet him."
He smiled. Caius had considered waiting to introduce himself, until he could get him settled in. But Nyx had asked for his own name and title, and had already done so himself, so he knew it was of upmost formality to return the honor. So he had dropped the bit about their King to help set him up for the introduction, and then...
Caius held out his hand and a sword materialized in a flash of blue light. He held the blunt to his heart as he then gave a half-bow. A Kingsglaive salute.
"Caius Dragelion. One-time royal guard and Kingsglaive. Currently part of the Dragonblades, a mercenary unit operating out of Torensten" he answered his introduction with his own. "Our objective is keeping the people of Zephon safe. We specialize in hunting monsters for mercenary jobs, and when things hit the fan as they often do around here... We act as a defense force."
Nyx decided he liked this kid, maybe it was the knowing smile he had just given him or maybe it was something about the way he carried himself. He seemed to really consider Nyx and who he might be, it made Nyx wonder if this man was also someone not from this world. He didn’t have to wait long to find out, the simple statement of ‘most of us were’ was enough information for Nyx to know that: one – he wasn’t the first, and two – this man was also not a native here. As he continued to speak Nyx considered what he was being told – mercenary wasn’t uncommon to him, but it had been a long while since he had come across one.
At the offer of a place to sleep, Nyx cracked his neck and stretched. He didn’t see any harm in taking the man up on it, after all he felt like he felt like his body had run a marathon to get here and he knew that once the adrenaline wore off the would just want to sleep. However, something else was said that sparked his curiosity – so there were royals here as well? Or was it that the man was implying something he assumed Nyx would know…
Pondering on that thought a little longer, Nyx recalled his encounters with the Prince. He wasn’t sure why Noctis came to mind over Regis when this man mentioned ‘His Highness’, but he doubted this man had ever me King Regis, if he had then their encounter here would have been very different. “A place to rest would be appreciated.” Nyx didn’t comment about meeting ‘His Highness’ – that was always something that could come later. Right now he was content with taking in where he was, who this person was, and if he was honest, the sleep part sounded very enticing.
What happened next made Nyx cock his head to the side and stare at the man, Caius, in new light. Weapon manifestation, the signature of the Lucian royal bloodline, a Kingsglaive salute, indication that he was one. But Nyx had never seen this man and he was sure the Kingsglaive died with him and the only comrades that still fought for their King – he even assumed that Lib wouldn’t have taken up the title again after what happened with Crowe… That hurt – he was suddenly feeling the wave of recollection and his face tightened before he caught himself and returned to a curious expression. He didn’t want to think about that memory…it seemed that this place had made it hard to recall some memories, but it was happy to throw him the ones that hurt.
Focusing on Caius’s introduction, Nyx couldn’t help the puzzled expression on his face from being visible. “A Kingsglaive?” Nyx eyed the man again, taking in more of his features. He didn’t look like he had the grit of a mercenary or a Kingsglaive, but then again neither did Crowe or Lib and they were the latter. “I got to admit Caius. Your introduction is rather confusing. If what you say is true, then I should know of you, however you mentioned about coming here from different times and different worlds…” Nyx took a step closer to the man, he had a curious smile on his lips as he examined the blade – it had seen battle. Relaxing Nyx shifted his weight and folded his arms. “I think we have much to talk about.” He chuckled lightly; Nyx got the feeling he was in for a long ride. “That offer of a place to stay sounds rather inviting – I think I will take you up on it.”

Nyx didn't know him. Well, of course he didn't. Caius hadn't become a Kingsglaive until Nyx had been dead for a decade. He nodded his head. "We do have much to talk about" he agreed, as he motioned towards the commercial district. "Shall we?" he inquired as he started heading through Torensten. It was late at night, it was likely that nobody would disturb their chat at base. He'd have to write a letter to Celes, wherever she was (Hopefully she was checking in with Yuna. He could just send it there and hope for the best) to let her know about the living arrangements for Nyx for the time being. This wasn't the first time someone had crashed there for a bit, so it should be fine. It might even be worth it in the end if Nyx ended up helping out when things hit the fan. Which it did around here. A lot. Have I said that enough already?
"As far as I know, the Kingsglaive in their prime were cut down when the Empire invaded Lucis. A handful survived, though. They held the fort when the Starscourge overtook our world, covering it in darkness as daemons created by the Empire and the scourge infested monster Ardyn rose, driving the people of Lucis from their homes and out of every settlement they found. For ten years, all we could do was fight to survive until the crystal decided that Prince Noctis was worthy."
Their base was a quaint little place. Two storeys, with a little desk in the entranceway where they did paperwork. Caius led him to the next room over, which acted almost like a little saloon, with a place for drinks, some chairs, tables, couches and a comfortable little fireplace. Caius invited him to sit down as he started getting drinks ready.
"10 years, and Noctis returned. The Chosen King, His Majesty, Noctis Lucis Caelum was a powerful force. Rebuilding the Kingsglaive, which included myself, we beat back the remnants of the Empire's army and Noctis stopped the Starscourge. Two years later, rebuilding Lucis is going as well as it can be. But remnants of the Empire still exist. An assassin tries to take Noctis' life. I step in. I kill the assassin, but..."
He let out a sigh. He passed Nyx his drink.
"Whether by death or other means, the gods chose to send me here. It's been two years. Two years spent trying to build a new life here. Fighting the threats that have faced this world."
It was easy to match Caius’ step, Nyx found a comfortable pace along side him as they walked through the city of Torensten. It was an interesting place, some parts seemed familiar to areas back home – if he was honest, it was like the old had been mixed with the new. There were some parts of the structures that seemed to be built with materials Nyx would commonly see back home. The architecture also felt somewhat familiar, what was it that Nyx was trying to recall. Finally, it hit him and he shook his head, Lestallum – that is what Nyx was thinking this place looked like. It wasn’t quite old, but it didn’t match the modernism of Insomnia. However, Nyx did enjoy the crystal lights, it was a nice touch and oddly comforting.
Other than it being night, Nyx realised he had no concept of time. It was then that he briefly paused and looked up to the sky. The moon still hung low enough to indicate that it was before midnight, but it was too high to be evening – he was about to enquire but Caius had began chatting as they walked further into the city. Quickly falling back in step, Nyx listen. His version of Eos sounded strange. It was true that starscourge was slowly spreading but from what little he knew of, the Oracle kept it at bay. Nyx begun to think of Lunafreya and Libertus – he didn’t feel like correcting Caius about the fall of the Kingsglaive. Sure, the Empire invaded but the Kingsglaive weren’t cut down by them, they were in on it… well not all of them. The thought of Crowe’s dead body flashed in his mind; did he blame his once comrades – he wanted to but he also knew why they did it. How could he fault anyone for wanting to fight for their homes?
Nyx didn’t mull on the crystal deciding Noctis’ fate, if anything he sort of scoffed at it. He thought back to Luna’s duty and how it seemed her life was taken from her before she was even born – then to remember what the King told him, about his motives, Noctis was the same. With a heavy sigh Nyx hoped they both found happiness at least.
The two came up to a two-storey building; it was nothing fancy, homely if anything. But as Nyx stepped inside, he could tell it was a base of sorts – it even have a make-shift saloon. It was like he had walked into a common room for the inhabitants here. Following Caius, Nyx sat down in a comfy chair not far from the fireplace and watch as Caius moved easily around the room. His movements confirmed one thing for him – he wasn’t a new recruit here. He moved with a causal ease that spoke like he had frequented here often.
Turning his gaze to the fire, Nyx again stayed quite and listened. So Noctis became King after all and it sounds like he was a pretty decent one – this made him smile for that is what Nyx was fighting for, a brighter future. Most of what followed after that was a distant and Nyx started to retreat into his thoughts. It wasn’t that he was ignoring his host, he heard every word, it was just that his mind was asking one question and didn’t want to let up till it got the answer. It will have to wait…
“So, judging from what you are saying I guess there is not real hope of returning home for you?” Nyx trailed off for a moment. “What of the Oracle, Lady Lunafreya? and do you know of Libertus?” They had obviously made it to Altissia with the ring if Noctis was then crowned King, but he couldn’t help by wonder why Caius hadn’t at least mentioned Luna – she had such an important role to play in all this… she was also Noctis’ betrothed.

"I'm afraid not. Perhaps I would have gone back by now, given the opportunity. Or not, I'm most likely dead" Caius admitted. "While nobody I know who was actually alive when they were sent here has been able to find a way back either, I doubt either you or me could get back even if there was an opportunity."
If one day they found a gate back home, would they be dead again when they returned? Would nothing await them but the void? Caius wasn't really up for that. He had a life here now. Honestly more of a life than he'd ever had in Eos. The questions kept coming. Caius frowned when it came to the Lady Lunafreya. He had seen her once on television, giving a speech. She was incredibly beautiful, even the younger Caius had been taken with her. He didn't feel strong physical attraction the way he used to anymore, but hers was a face and presence he'd always remember.
"She passed shortly after delivering the Ring. Ardyn, or from your era I suppose you'd know him better as Chancellor Izunia from the Empire. He killed her. It was her death that allowed the scourge to go unchecked as it did."
He gave that a few moments to sink in proper, considering it was Nyx's first time hearing it. After a bit, he answered the next question. "Libertus... I think he was a big deal glaive too, right? I don't think he was alive when I came in, anyway."
Now that Nyx's drink was handed off, Caius went to sit down himself, relaxing back against the couch as he sipped his own drink. "This is where things get complicated, though. I mentioned earlier about introducing you to His Highness. By His Highness... I'm talking about Noctis. But what's strange is this Noctis doesn't appear to be from the same version of the world as the one I served is. This Noctis, if what I've been told is correct... Died stopping Ardyn and the Starscourge. I don't have information on how. He said it so casually that I was too stunned to really follow up. But he doesn't know me. He thinks I'm one of Regis' men."
He sighed as he took a long drink after that. "Didn't have it in me to correct him."
