Final Fantasy Adventu is a roleplaying forum inspired by the Final Fantasy series. Images on the site are edited by KUPO of FF:A with all source material belonging to their respective artists (i.e. Square Enix, Pixiv Fantasia, etc). The board lyrics are from the Final Fantasy song "Otherworld" composed by Nobuo Uematsu and arranged by The Black Mages II.
The current skin was made by Pharaoh Leap of Pixel Perfect. Outside of that, individual posts and characters belong to their creators, and we claim no ownership to what which is not ours. Thank you for stopping by.
Caius looked thoughtful though not overly surprised. Perhaps it was the bond they shared as fellow knights albeit for kingdoms separated by some great unknown. Still, there was some kind of appreciation in his eyes. A kind of respect.
”I accept your offer, Sir Cecil,” he said, and Cecil nodded once, smiling. It wasn’t an offer that he had expected to be turned away, yet it was one he would not have argued had the man thought him unfit. Cecil could not swear his full loyalty after all. He had been transparent of that matter from the start.
”I will do my best,” Cecil said. ”To spare the people bloodshed and uphold your soldiers’ honor. For this, I will raise my sword.”
Still, it sounded as though Caius would be gone for some time -- occupied by work in a distant land. ”Sonora?” Cecil hadn’t heard of it. Not yet at least. If he were to find his companions then he would search every corner of this world no matter how distant. ”If you should need accompaniment, I would like to see this place.”
It was an offer. No more, no less.
”As for my companion, she is also my co-leader,” Caius went on. ”Her name is Celes Chere. She sometimes goes by her previous rank of General.”
”General?” Cecil blinked his surprise, momentarily stunned. A woman? General of an army? He had known many strong-willed women in his life as powerful in magic as any man in armor. They studied their crafts with just as much dedication as he had studied his own, and their work carried the same respect. Still, he found it hard to imagine. How would their more delicate frames handle the weight of a sword? How would the smiths fit their armor?
The image struck him of a warrior woman, broad-shouldered and hard-eyed so engulfed by her plate mail that he could hardly make out her form. He banished it with a shake of his head.
”I’m sure your trust is not misplaced,” he said. ”I will rely on her should I have need of a sword at my side.”
If Caius gave his word then he would not question her strength. The respect of a fellow knight was not so easily given.
”Thank you,” Cecil said with a small smile. ”You are strong at heart. I will not forget your kindness.”

Cecil was a good man, and Caius was glad that he could be confident that he could count on the man. In a perfect world, perhaps the two of them would have served a King together. But here as it was, he was happy to be able to share company with one Sir Cecil, who wore his convictions on his sleeves, and wore them well. It made him happy to know that there were people like that out here still. A real knight. Not some phony with painted honor that they were willing to throw to the side the minute some puppet master came along spewing drivel. Cecil came off as very much the real thing, and Caius could respect the world out of that. Celes especially knew well enough at this point that Caius respected game, and wasn't afraid to voice it if there came an opportunity.
"It'll be my honor to work with you, Sir Cecil" he spoke in turn. The conversation turned to his trip to Sonora, and to his surprise, Cecil asked to accompany him when he went. Caius had no problems with that. Sonora was always a place of trouble, and he'd run into plenty of it in the short visits he'd had. Now that he was intending on doing something much more... Thorough, it wouldn't hurt to have someone like Cecil around to help out. Of course, he was sure that Cecil would want to get out and do his own thing once they were there, but having even a bit of possible backup when things got dicey was a must. "I'm happy to bring you along. It'd be safer that way. Just a fair warning that it's much colder there. I'd bring something warm" he warned. He'd probably be fine in that armor, but better to be safe than sorry. And perhaps Cecil would find his friends there?
The surprise when it came to Celes wasn't unexpected, but it got a sigh out of him. He knew that look, even if he didn't mean to make it seem that way. He'd seen it before. More than once, at that. Still, at least he was nice enough to make it clear he trusted her. "She's stern. More hard-nosed than I am. But she's kind. She won't fail if you have need of her" he promised.
Cecil gave strong praise, and he gratefully bowed his head. "You honor me, Sir Cecil. I'll do my best not to let you down."
”I trust you’ll do fine.” Cecil laughed softly to himself and offered Caius a genuine smile. He wasn’t always the best judge of character. He’d been called naive, but his trust in people had more often led to a vital companion than a traitor. He felt in his heart that Caius would stand by him. So long as his will was resolute, he would not let Cecil down.
Cecil let his eyes wander to the room -- their headquarters. The Dragonblades. It was an imposing title and one he was not inclined to take. Still, there was a certain comfort in their alliance. Cecil had never done well on his own.
”I should be going. I wouldn’t want to intrude.” Cecil’s armor clinked against the chair as he stood, his cape falling into place behind him. The place was modest, but he felt a kind of passion crammed into every table, desk, and decoration. The swords lining the walls were well-used. The shields, chipped ever so slightly at the edges. It reminded him of the training yards of Baron where he’d spent countless hours of countless days honing his discipline with Kain.
Cecil hesitated.
”Unless…” His heart sank at the thought. He knew it was indecent to ask, and yet…
”Is there somewhere I could stay? For the night?” Cecil turned to Caius again. His eyes wavered.
Anywhere would do, he wanted to say. A hallway. A closet. He had spent countless nights along the road, exposed to the elements and that terrible sky. It had entranced him, and he had found himself endlessly lost to it. He longed to shelter himself from that sky. A new journey with new allies. He could, perhaps, ground himself once more.
Cecil shook his head. ”I wouldn’t want to press your kindness.”

While he was not keen on taking their name, Caius welcomed Cecil as an ally to the Dragonblades nonetheless. The jobs were just part of what they did, after all. With Ardyn, Kuja and others out there, the Dragonblades had served as a peacekeeping force in Zephon on more than one occasion. The money they made took care of their warriors in every way they could, and made it easier to fund being able to go out there and kick the tar out of monsters when they were needed. While they had a handful of strong warriors, they could use all the help that they could get. Cecil's aid was beneficial more than he might even know.
For now, the Knight was ready to bid farewell. With their business settled and their partnership inked, Caius supposed it was getting a little late. He'd probably be getting ready to finish up himself and head home. This routine of managing things at the base while Celes was out taking her turn in the adventuring side of things was... Interesting, but he was getting used to it, sort of. Caius' wanderlust would tempt him back onto the field eventually, but he was at least settling into figuring out how to make these things work. The forms he'd been going through were... Annoying, but he'd been learning to manage. His handwriting was getting better too. Celes still had him beat there, though. He didn't know how she did this day by day, it was more work than he had thought it would be. Sleep would come easily on this night.
Cecil though... Didn't have a place to sleep. That was clear. It was part of why Caius had slipped him some gil earlier. But he supposed that gil would be better suited to getting Cecil a bite to eat in the morning. Caius pointed to the stairs nearby. "If you see any rooms that don't say they're occupied, it's yours for the night" he brought up with a gentle smile. Dragonblades came and went from Torensten, so the rooms were free to use if they needed a place to sleep.
