[attr="class","ayab-text"] Cassandra was still questioning her decision to go through with this event. It was quite similar to the Valentione's event back in Eorzea that happened every year, and she could still recall running through that maze with Alex as a fun diversion. No, neither of them had made it to the end without the tether breaking between them. It only made it further evident to her just how imcompatible they would have been as a couple. Not that she had ever given much credence to such a thing! He was her mentor and friend before all else. And, well, she had more of an attraction towards women, anyway. Which only had her thinking of Ayako and missing the shorter woman all the more. Perhaps one day she would meet her again, but there was little she could do on that front. [break][break]
At least she could say that she adored the venue for which her date would take place. A lovely stretch of beach that seemed to go on forever. It reminded her of the shores along Shirogane and she wondered if there would be Far Eastern cuisine here that she could indulge in. Of course, she would need to find the right ingredients first. It had been a long while since she had allowed anyone to prepare a meal for her. One day she may trust others' intentions again, but being poisoned twice only had that trust going so far. Becoming a specialized Culinarian had it's perks and she had worked hard to become renowned in Eorzea for her cooking. Even the Sultana had complimented her! [break][break]
But that was neither here nor there! Cassandra glanced down at the colored card in her hand as she wondered who she had gotten for this. For some reason, she had a sinking feeling it would be someone she knew. And there was only one person she knew personally in this world. Hades did not count, since the two of them preferred to avoid one another. His presence only filled her with an unfathomable sadness and he always looked at her as if he was seeing someone else. Yet another mystery that she would enjoy solving if she ever gained the chance.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] "You would fare better in your attempt to scare me, if I was not already familiar with the pull of your aether, Alex," Cassandra replied with a deadpan expression. Honestly, there was also the fact he used the same trick over the years to scare her. He needed a new gimmick since he was still sorely lacking. At least this time he had not screamed into her ear, which always hurt! Did he not remember that she was half-Elezen and her hearing was more sensitive because of it? Not that it was ever pleasant to have a person screaming into your ear! It seemed he had not changed at all in this unknown world and city. [break][break]
Cassandra spun on her heel and was about to hug him until she noticed the cat in his arms. Why did he have a cat? Without thought, she plucked the cat from his grasp and nestled it against her chest with a happy hum. The calico meowed at her indignantly for a moment before making itself cozy against her chest. Satisfied with that, she smiled up at Alex brightly. "Thank the Twelve I was able to find you. You...still remember me, right? I was told that the people pulled into this world can lose their memories." That would certainly play right into her luck! Her own memories remained quite intact, thankfully. [break][break]
"I have yet to run into anyone else familiar, and I have been looking for you what feels like ages." Cassandra was careful to not bring up her encounter with Emet-Selch. Knowing her friend as she does, she was quite certain he would obsess over the Ascian's presence. That he was plotting something nefarious. Perhaps he was? Even so, she had no wish to go chasing after him again. One fight against Hades had been enough and she was content to leave the man in peace.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] It seemed even on this new world the sense of wanderlust still claimed her. Cassandra had done much as a Warrior of Light, but that burden did not follow her here. Well, at least not in full. She still worried for the Source and what was happening in her absence. The last time she had seen her friends had been during her last visit to the First. The search for a way to bring back their souls had been under way, and then she had woken up here. Of course, that had been a few months ago by now. Her heart continued to ache for a familiar face among these unknown people and unknown towns. Well, not counting Emet-Selch, of course. She had not crossed paths with the Ascian since she had awoken here and perhaps that was for the best. Her presence seemed to bother him for reasons beyond their final confrontation and his presence certainly provoked a strange emotion from her. [break][break]
But she had heard of an ancient city with technology beyond reckoning and it had reminded her instantly of Allag. Was it possible that this world could be another shard? No, she doubted it. The Blessing of Hydaelyn would have followed her here if it was a reflection of the Source. Her Echo had also been lost to her as well. All she had to her were her soul stones and the clothing she had awoken in. But the odd jobs and missions she had taken had earned her gil! And Alexander had been quite kind to offer her a roof to stay under and a bed to sleep in! At least she had run into one, friendly familiar face! Her fellow Warrior of Light had done well for himself and it was nice to know that she was not completely alone. [break][break]
At present, she had settled with her Red Mage soulstone to combat any possible enemies with. It was her most comfortable form to assume as she could also tap into her spellcraft as a Black Mage as well. Wandering into the ruins had not given her any clues as of yet, but she could not help but marvel over the city. Oh, if only Urianger or Y'shtola were here with her! The two of them would simply spend the entire day scouring these ruins for clues and information. Another pang of homesickness went through her as she attempted to shake away the thoughts and memories. Oh, by the Twelve, she truly did hope she could find a way home at some point. [break][break]
For now, her thoughts scattered the moment an alarm screeched through the air. Cassandra winced at the piercing sound as she quickly began to look around her. There was no one nearby she could see, but she quickly picked up her pace to locate the source of the noise. It meant that someone else had to be here and her first instinct was to help whoever was nearby. What if they were lost? Or had come into this world unknowingly as she had? Silver-gold strands of her hair streamed behind her along with her braid as she took long strides to see a red-haired man jump over the tank. What caught her eye instantly were the unique ears atop his head. Could he be...? [break][break]
She wasted no time as she gathered her aether around her to quickly strike the tank with a Verthunder. It seemed to work as the tank short-circuited with the electricity running through her. Whether it would hold was another thing altogether! "G'raha!?" He was a ways ahead of her, so she felt for the familiar thrum of his aether before using it to teleport herself forward to the slightly shorter Miqo'te's side in an instant. "Somehow, I should no be surprised to see you in the ruins of a city!" Her expression was alight with a brilliant smile as her blue eyes glittered. Now to simply outrun the tank or take it out for good! But for added measure, she spun on the heel of her foot to erect a wall of ice to cover their exit into the alleyway. It would hold long enough for them to make a hasty getaway into the city before all of the security measures here came to life. [break][break]
Now, this was the sort of adventure she was used to!
[attr="class","ayab-text"] This was where Emet-Selch had directed her after that unexpected meeting with him. Honestly, she was quite relieved to be gone from his presence as she felt enough confusion towards him. A faint, resonant pull she had always felt whenever they had crossed paths and she still did not know the reason why. If she were braver, then she would have asked. He had never lied to her once about his intentions or wishes for his people, but the truth could be a beautiful and terrible thing. Cassie believed it was best to leave whatever ties between them buried and forgotten for there was no need to be confrontational with him now. Besides, she had more pressing concerns in finding Alex in this sprawling city-scape. Provo reminded herself somewhat of Limsa with the vast trade, but there was far more greenery here than the ocean-side city. [break][break]
Where should she start first? Cassie attempted to ask nearby traders or merchants for a man by Alexander's description. It did not amount to much, since there were plenty of tall, fair-haired men within the city. This was like attempting to find a needle within a haystack! Finding him would have been far easier back in Eorzea since everyone in the world seemed to know their likeness and name. It felt almost surreal that no one here knew who she was or even care that much. If she was not a potential customer to browse their wares then they quickly ushered her off with an impatient tone or a simple 'no' to her questions. [break][break]
It was frustrating and amusing all at once! For now, Cassie settled herself with buying an apple to ease away her hunger. At least her coin was still good here. Was gil universal between worlds? She could not complain as her tendency to run errands for others had allowed her to carry a decent stash to last her for a little while. Being a glorified errand girl did have it's perks in making money! Now if only she could find Alex and find out what this world truly was.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] The deserts of Ul'dah had prepared her enough for the heat and sand of this city. The sands of Dalmasca had also prepared her as well when she recalled the mission she had undertaken by going through the Royal City of Rabanastre. A beautiful city that had been ransacked by the Garlean Empire in their ever brutal conquest to unite all of the world beneath their banner. What they believed to be a unifying force was no more than a tyrannical moncarchy created from the machincations of the Ascians. Cassie still worried about what was occuring back at home and if the absence of herself and Alexander was going to cause a potential Rejoining without them there to try and prevent it. This world left her devoid of Hydaelyn's Blessing and of her friends. [break][break]
But this did allow her the chance to travel at her leisure and to explore what Zephon had to offer. It was a world with its own history and cities to explore and learn about. The town she was currently in seemed to be an oasis town of some sort with markets and plenty of people walking about. In search of wares to purchase or to escape the barrenness of the desert before they continued on their journey. Right now she was interested in seeks out any nearby work to earn some gil for herself. A girl needed to eat after all and purchase some other essentials to continue her uncertain existence here. [break][break]
She had settled into her Dancer attire to provide herself some relief within the sweltering heat, but she could see the various stares and whispered words it garnered her. A rather revealing outfit that she had earned upon completing her training beneath the traveling group from Thavnair. Her chakrams sat comfortably and swayed with each motion of her hips to draw attention to the fact that she was armed and very much capable of wielding these weapons as well. Perhaps it would have been less conspicuous to rely on her Red Magic over dancing, but she had grown accustomed to the freeing movements and speed that her Soul Crystal offered her. [break][break]
The glare of the sun blinded her briefly when she had finally managed to spot what looked like a local job board. Which, in turn, had her stumbling into a complete stranger like a newborn fawn. Cassie felt her cheeks flush at the rather graceless movement before she hastily took a step back and looked up at the man with an apologetic smile. "Sorry about that. The sun blinded me for a moment." The reasoning even sounded a little weak to her own ears, but she pushed through her embarrassment and sidestepped the man to peruse the various jobs posted on the board to see if she could find one that would suit her. Cassie was very much regretting her choice in approaching this man the longer he spoke. It sent off every warning signal in her mind that this was a being beyond the ordinary. Someone that reminded her somewhat of Zenos in his pursuit to attain a higher level of strength and any that stood in his way was not worth his time. Her blue eyes narrowed and she felt herself begin to shift her feet further apart as she readied herself to depart from this confrontation. Yes, she had battled many over the years but it was never her first instinct to throw herself into the heat of battle. It was only the means to an end for her most of the time. She did not know of his capabilities nor what he could do and she was not in the mood to find out. [break][break]
"I suppose we shall have to differ in regards to what this world is. Believe what you must but I feel I have overstayed my welcome in this forest. You are well enough and able to care for yourself." Diplomatic words even as she gathered her aether around her as she utilized her abilities as a Dancer to break apart from him within the blink of an eye. "I will part from your company with this to aid you at least. Continue northwest from this forest and you shall find the city of Provo." Those were her parting words from him as she used her aether-enhanced speed to race through the looming trees and him behind. [break][break]
Cassie had her own ventures to continue and she did not wish to waste any more time when she still had to find Alexander. Perhaps her path would cross again with this Garland, but she was sincerely hoping that would be the case. If nothing else, she had done what she could to point him in the direction of the nearest city to find others to answer his questions. And if he proved to be as dangerous as she suspected? Well, then she would speak of his presence to Alexander when she found her fellow Warrior of Light again. [break][break]

[attr="class","curragepost"] It still seemed that Garland did not believe her about this being another world entirely. It was easy enough for herself since she had been to another world before. The Source consisted of itself and fourteen reflections that had been sundered from it. Worlds that had been destroyed to bring about many Calamities to cause the Rejoining and bring back those sundered reflections. Such untold death and chaos had been caused from each Calamity and she prayed that no more would be brought forth in her absence. Alexander and herself were both upon Zephon now with no known way to return back home. Only Elidibus remained to push forth his machinations and the Scions had still be trapped upon the First. Would Graha be able to send their souls back to their physical bodies from the First? [break][break]
Another cycle? Cassie looked to Garland with a bemused expression at those muttered words. A cycle of what? Her brow furrowed as she noticed the armored man looking at her once more, pressing her for information that she did not readily have. She wished to help as much as she could because she had been confused upon waking here as well. His presence unsettled her deeply, but he had not seemed overly hostile since their initial greeting. "This realm is known as Zephon, and several individuals I have come across will answer you the same as myself. This is a realm beyond our own and we have been plucked from our homes to reside here for whatever reason." [break][break]
For the machinations of gods she did not fathom. Chosen for some purpose she did not know. At least Hydaelyn had given her some explanation when she had been chosen as a Warrior of Light. A shame that her blessing of the Echo had not followed here. It would be quite useful in allowing her to gain the answers she needed. Cassie was at once both free from her previous burdens and chained into unknown circumstances as well. "I only came here recently myself so I only know a few of the towns here. I could give you directions to the nearest one if it aids you in acclimatizing here."

[attr="class","curragepost"] Insanity? Oh, no, he was certainly not from her world. Then again, the knowledge of the fourteen separate reflections of the Source was not a well-known one. Cassie watched him warily as he began to stalk towards her with his massive sword lifted. Her fingers were already curled tightly around her chakrams as she gathered her aether around her legs, more than ready to dash into an area of safety before he would be able to touch her. "Nothing to warrant such a sudden reaction, I am sure. Doubt my words if you like. Explore this star and see for yourself what it has to offer." She was leaning forward somewhat with her knees bent in preparation to simply dart around the large swordsman with her smaller size and hopefully better speed. [break][break]
Combat was never her first choice in situations like these. Cassie tilted her head at the softening of his tone as if he were attempting to lull her in. It was not something she would allow herself to fall for easily. "Hasty in your judgment of me? You know little enough of me to judge," she stated coolly. Her amber eyes glinted warily up at the helmeted man as she slowly eased her stance just a fraction to see where his current thought process was leading. Easing her to follow him deeper within these haunted woods? Cassie should have ignored her curiosity and left well enough alone. [break][break]
"I cannot answer you clearly. I am not familiar with this place myself," she stated plainly. For now, she hesitantly walked beside him but she kept a wary distance between them both. His earlier shock worried her somewhat, but she tried to remain openminded enough to allow for the shock of awakening here. If she was insane for dreaming up this unknown world, then the armored man walking with her was as well. It would not be the first time she had questioned her sanity.

[attr="class","curragepost"] Was his name meant to mean something to her? Cassie could perceive enough of his body language to know he was waiting for some sort of reaction from her. Yes, his armored form was certainly intimidating to behold, but she remembered Zenos and she was not sure anyone could intimidate her more than he had that first time. Of course, she was not idiotic enough to relax her guard. This man was a stranger to her and an odd one at that with his mannerisms and garb. She tilted her head to the side as she regarded this Garland once more as the temptation to laugh assailed her for but a moment. Her expression remained impassive, though. [break][break]
"Is it meant to mean something to me? If so, then I am sorry but it does not." Her brow furrowed as he outright asked if she was a Warrior of Light. Her expression was bewildered as she looked to Garland. It was not a title she was used to answering, because the people of her world knew who she was. The Source knew of her feats and celebrated her triumphs, and this man seemed as unknowing of her as she was of him. At least in the sense that he held no personal recognition of her beyond her title. A thoughtful hum escaped her as she simply shrugged her shoulders lightly.[break][break]
"I am not from your world, I assume. Nor are you from mine. Armor such as yours would have been easily recognizable to me if so." Cassie had no desire to answer his question on whether she was a Warrior of Light. This new world held no care for the titles she had or what she had done in the past. She did not wish to be one here. The Blessing of Hydaelyn was gone from her in Zephon and she had no desire to reclaim it when she was finally free to do as she pleased.
[attr="class","curragepost"] Well, that was the pot calling the kettle black. Hades was not one to speak of overkill considering how flourishing he had been with his own abilities during their meetings. A simple snap of his fingers brought almost anything to fruition for him. Cassie merely shrugged her shoulders a little at him. "Perhaps. But it works well enough for me." The overcast of the trees made it difficult for her to use the placement of the sun to guide her movements so being creative with plant life aided her in this. It was for the best that she parted from his presence and tried to find Alexander in this unknown world. [break][break]
A soft sigh escaped her as she merely shook her head. Keeping Hades existence from her friend was something she could not exactly do and Hades seemed to revel in the idea of causing a little chaos without actually doing anything. His statement of finding a soulmate caught her attention as she reached to pluck the card from her head with an incredulous gaze. A dating agency? That was the last thing she ever would have thought of him doing to make a living. Did he even need to? His creation magicks were beyond anything she had witnessed from even the Scions or the Exarch. "I doubt anyone would wish for me as a soulmate."[break][break]
Either way, he had retreated back into the shade and she assumed she was left to herself. Cassie simply pocketed the small card before heading in the general direction of north. She hoped she would be able to find some semblence of a village soon, or she would find out how well she could fare in this world on her own.
