[attr="class","ayab-text"] This was where Emet-Selch had directed her after that unexpected meeting with him. Honestly, she was quite relieved to be gone from his presence as she felt enough confusion towards him. A faint, resonant pull she had always felt whenever they had crossed paths and she still did not know the reason why. If she were braver, then she would have asked. He had never lied to her once about his intentions or wishes for his people, but the truth could be a beautiful and terrible thing. Cassie believed it was best to leave whatever ties between them buried and forgotten for there was no need to be confrontational with him now. Besides, she had more pressing concerns in finding Alex in this sprawling city-scape. Provo reminded herself somewhat of Limsa with the vast trade, but there was far more greenery here than the ocean-side city. [break][break]
Where should she start first? Cassie attempted to ask nearby traders or merchants for a man by Alexander's description. It did not amount to much, since there were plenty of tall, fair-haired men within the city. This was like attempting to find a needle within a haystack! Finding him would have been far easier back in Eorzea since everyone in the world seemed to know their likeness and name. It felt almost surreal that no one here knew who she was or even care that much. If she was not a potential customer to browse their wares then they quickly ushered her off with an impatient tone or a simple 'no' to her questions. [break][break]
It was frustrating and amusing all at once! For now, Cassie settled herself with buying an apple to ease away her hunger. At least her coin was still good here. Was gil universal between worlds? She could not complain as her tendency to run errands for others had allowed her to carry a decent stash to last her for a little while. Being a glorified errand girl did have it's perks in making money! Now if only she could find Alex and find out what this world truly was.
The calico cat being cradled in his arm is proof enough of what he's been up to. Why the Rising Stones keeps getting such ridiculous jobs like this is beyond him. She never even pays! Good will of finding cats is not something that really gets you anywhere, and he's gotta eat. It's not like back on the Source where people just gave you things because you were the Warrior of Light, and even then, he was always wary of that sort of thing. Still, he should probably get it back to the lady before she started hassling anyone else. Maybe soon he would actually get some real jobs. But apparently with the Dragonblades setting up a shop here, well... as nice as Caius seemed, competition would have to be taken care of at some point. Who knows? Maybe when one of those supernatural brawls took place, it'd get leveled.
The meow told him all he needed to know. "Alright, alright. I get it. We'll get you something to--is that why you do this? To con me out of food?" He looked at the calico, which just looked right back at him before meowing at him again. "Yeah, you keep it up, you're gonna be a real fat cat before this is all over at this rate. Although I guess then you won't be able to get stuck in a godsdamned tree anymore." And then he'd be free. Free to do things that weren't rescuing cats. Maybe take Ragnabawk out for a flight after this? Little guy did need to stretch his wings now and then. Then there was tracking down Ardyn and... gods this was going to be an overall trainwreck, now wasn't it? What had he signed up for?
But hey, it wasn't all bad at least, if the blonde he caught in the distance was who he thought it was. So, well, maybe go and check, in his own--yeah, the clothes gave it away. So, he would do what he did best. He simply waited until she was looking at something, slipped up behind her, and reached out. He'd allow his hand to try and grip her shoulder. He thought about screaming, but then figured not to, he didn't want to cause a scene, just... spook her a little. That was always fun.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] "You would fare better in your attempt to scare me, if I was not already familiar with the pull of your aether, Alex," Cassandra replied with a deadpan expression. Honestly, there was also the fact he used the same trick over the years to scare her. He needed a new gimmick since he was still sorely lacking. At least this time he had not screamed into her ear, which always hurt! Did he not remember that she was half-Elezen and her hearing was more sensitive because of it? Not that it was ever pleasant to have a person screaming into your ear! It seemed he had not changed at all in this unknown world and city. [break][break]
Cassandra spun on her heel and was about to hug him until she noticed the cat in his arms. Why did he have a cat? Without thought, she plucked the cat from his grasp and nestled it against her chest with a happy hum. The calico meowed at her indignantly for a moment before making itself cozy against her chest. Satisfied with that, she smiled up at Alex brightly. "Thank the Twelve I was able to find you. You...still remember me, right? I was told that the people pulled into this world can lose their memories." That would certainly play right into her luck! Her own memories remained quite intact, thankfully. [break][break]
"I have yet to run into anyone else familiar, and I have been looking for you what feels like ages." Cassandra was careful to not bring up her encounter with Emet-Selch. Knowing her friend as she does, she was quite certain he would obsess over the Ascian's presence. That he was plotting something nefarious. Perhaps he was? Even so, she had no wish to go chasing after him again. One fight against Hades had been enough and she was content to leave the man in peace.
He just kind of stared at her for a moment as she plucked the calico from him. It took a few moments before, well, Cassandra found out what it was like being the calico. Strong arms wrapped around her, cat meowing indignantly, hissing as well, as Alex pressed Cassandra against him in a massive, perhaps crushing hug. He tugged up a bit, taking her feet off the ground. Yeah, this was a big moment for him. "... You remember me." He spoke softly, tightening his death grip on the apprentice. It was just a soft whisper before he said it a tad louder this time. "You remember me!" Was this causing a scene? Probably, but right now he wasn't really sure he cared all that much. Just having something, some kind of link, something that actually proved he existed and that all his life hadn't been some kind of dream, it was just a tad overwhelming.
"Oh, thank the Twelve, no one else I've run into does!" Flashes of the others came to his mind. Fran, Thancred, Greg! Nothing, just absolutely nothing. He was a stranger in an strange world, with only his chocobo and Fray for company. Ragnabawk was great company. Fray, not so great. An observation that Fray quickly and quietly objected to. But, well, he could just suck it up for the moment. Right now, Alex was in far too good of a mood to let his own shadow ruin it for him. And again, Fray objected to the idea that he had a tendency to ruin things. He was pragmatic, but he cared, ultimately he cared.
Refusing to let go just yet, Alex did blink at Cassandra. "How long have you been here? Have you met anyone else?" How had he missed her all this time? Had he known she was here, he would have sought her out from the beginning. There was so much to catch up on, so much to do. Maybe he could get her to help around the Rising Stones. It would be nice to have their own little shop, their own little place to live, make their own way, none of the Warrior of Light BS that haunted them everywhere they went.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] A startled yelp escaped her as Cassandra found herself lifted off of the ground as Alex hugged her close. The poor cat hissed and yowled in between the two, but luckily it was not able to extend it's claws by being squished as it was. The poor woman had very little choice but to go along with his antics as she had almost always done. The hug was not unwelcome by any means, but she would appreciate being placed back on the ground! As tall as she was for her kind, Alex would always supersede her in height. "Could you put me down? I can't breathe and neither can the cat!" This was it. This was how she was going to meet her end. [break][break]
She always knew that one day Alex would get her killed somehow. [break][break]
Cassandra wriggled about in his grasp until she finally just gave up for the time being. Alex would let her go when he was ready and she could never beat him in an outright contest of strength, sadly. A long-suffering sigh escaped her as her feet dangled a couple of inches from the ground. "If this is how you greet them, then I can understand why they said they don't," she replied dryly. But there was truth in what he said and what she had witnessed for herself. No, she could not fully begrudge him his feelings when she was quite happy to reunite with him as well. [break][break]
"I haven't been here for too long. I awoke here south of the city and I've been traveling to find someone familiar ever since," Cassandra answered carefully. There was no way she would reveal to Alex that she had met Emet-Selch when she had first gotten here. It would only send her friend chasing after non-existent conspiracies when she was willing to allow the poor man a semblance of peace. Hades--Emet-Selch was no longer tempered on this world and he seemed to be trying to build a life for himself. How could she begrudge him that? Not when she only felt sadness and guilt every time she looked at him. [break][break]
"Now, as much as I love you, please put me down!" The cat was still howling and she lightly kicked him in the calf with one of her dangling feet.
He could feel her struggling to get free. Okay, that was always amusing with her. But instead he just continued to keep her suspended. "In a bit, in a bit." He remarked. The cat would live. It was just getting fussy over being squished a bit. It was honestly the first bit of familiar contact he'd had in a good long while, and admittedly, part of him may have just been a bit touch starved. Alex was a strange one at times. Perhaps though, he had just felt like he'd been denied some basic human interaction. Especially when it came to a lack of those he held dear like Cassandra. When it was dear companions like them, well, there were times that he could get very touchy feely with them, though he always made it a point to respect boundaries, at least. Usually.
Which, well, Cassandra's were made clear by the kick to his calves. Feeling the flare of slight pain he got the hint and released his grip, dropping her like a rock. "Hey, hey! Don't be getting violent." On the flip side, Cassandra made the painstaking admission that she actually cared about Alex. He couldn't help but wonder briefly if that's how bad it had gotten; bad enough that there was actually a bit of affection to her, at least. "Well, you found me fast. I'm guessing I'm your first, then?" It was weird, almost like she already knew where to go. But, well, he figured that wasn't anything to really think about. The two always had a way of finding the other, so it made sense to him, at least.
He took a moment to breathe easy, the sudden joy of it all wearing off. Well, the sudden part anyway. He was more than happy to see her still. "But I'm glad you're doing well, especially if you remember me." But well, if she was something from home, then that left the other issue, now didn't it? "I'm... hoping things haven't completely gone to shit in my absence, right?" There was a part of him that felt the need to return home as quickly as possible. His world... much as he loved it, his world really couldn't do without him there to keep everything safe. More than once, it had become clear that there were just too many threats far beyond what the Grand Companies could handle.
