[attr="class","ayab-text"]A free first drink? Cassandra felt her lips quirk into an amused smile as Argos sat on his haunches beside her. Glancing downward, she met her familiar's eyes as the canine quickly lifted his head to the side as a snub. It seemed she had spoiled Argos too much with gourmet cooking for him to even consider the idea of another making his food. He really was a spoiled dog at the end of the day, but he had been loyal to her since the first. A quiet, constant companion at her side since she had been pulled into this world. "Perhaps next time?" she offered Caius with a light laugh. One day Argos would warm up to her friend. Maybe. [break][break]
Taking a seat beside him, she folded her hands upon her lap as she regarded him. Another slight smile curled on her lips as she hummed thoughtfully. It had been good for her to walk away for awhile, if only so she could sort out the memories from a former life. There were still gaps and a certain disorientation to the entire situation. All she had to do was take each day as they came and that would be enough for now. "No poison since you taught me your wonderful trick. It would have served me well several years ago," she said with a wry laugh. There were certain traumas she would have enjoyed avoiding, but there was no changing it now. [break][break]
A sheepish expression crossed her features at the mention of Alexander. Gods, what had he done now and why did it involve her? A small groan escaped her as she leaned her forehead into the palm of her hand. "Forgive me, but I gave no mention because I did not believe it would impact anyone but myself. I should have known better with how long I have known him." It was also her fault for leaving so abruptly, but she had believed Alex would be fine. He never did take well to his friends leaving his side. Cassandra had allowed her selfishness to get the better of her and this was the result of it. "What rumors has he spouted?" [break][break]
Silence. [break][break]
Several heartbeats passed as Cassandra allowed the words to simply flood her mind. Lover? Lover to Alex? Abrupt, incredulous laughter bubbled from her lips at the sheer lunacy of it all. "Gods, I would sooner try my luck at the Quicksands!" It took her several moments to eventually catch her breath before reaching for her own glass to take a large swig. The ale burned down her throat to help regain her focus. "Alex is an unpredictable individual when left to his own devices for long. He's a good man. What we went through together would take a long time to explain. He means well, but he can often....misconstrue situations into his own narrative."
[attr="class","ayab-text"]Cassandra could admit to herself that she had needed the time away from the world to settle back into her own skin. Being ripped away from Etheirys had caused a certain amount of trauma she had attempted to push on through. Had she not been ripped to another world before--the First and the Thirteenth respectively? Such a thing should not be an entire surprise, but this had not been by her own choice. This world allowed her no way back to her own home and the friend she had left behind. And even the few she had been able to run into had not remembered or had not known who she was entirely. How was a young woman meant to cope with such a thing? Her only comfort had been Argos when she had tried and succeeded in summoning him back to her side. The former familiar of Venat had been a lifeline to her that she had been able to cling onto even if he had to be bribed at times with gourmet, homemade treats. [break][break]
Another lifeline had been joining the Dragonblades before finding Hades in all of his glory. So much of her time had been spent with him and regaining memories from a life that had once been her own. Cassandra had kept so many of these revelations to herself until she felt comfortable enough to reveal such admissions to her former adversary. How would he react to such secrets? It was another worry that kept her hesitating on whether she should speak of her knowledge or not. Either way, such a thing was not relevant to the unexpected meeting Caius had asked of her. It had been quite awhile since she had last spoken to the leader of their group, and she felt guilt for temporarily leaving to situate herself more. [break][break]
Cassandra was unsure of what this meeting would even entail and it had her both curious and a little wary. Argos was currently at her side as he went at his own confident, assured pace at her side. Her familiar did as she asked, but he still held everyone else she knew it contempt until they had earned his respect. Stepping inside of the small establishment, she looked around for the familiar figure of Caius. Seeing the familiar form of him already sitting had her walking in his direction. A small smile crossed her lips as Argos soon sat on his haunches behind her while giving Caius his normal, contemptuous glance. "It's been awhile, Caius. What did you wish to discuss?"

[attr="class","ayab-text"] A brief moment of respite to gather her thoughts and growing memories. Cassandra wondered if she could truly call them her own if they had happened in a life beyond her current comprehension. Her hands cupped the steaming mug of coffee before her, peering into the dark liquid with a pensive expression. Her reflection appeared skewered as she swirled the mug gently to send tiny ripples along the surface. Who was she truly? A woman from a thousand lifetimes ago, or the woman sitting in this seat with Argos at her feet. It felt as if she had spent so much time running away from just herself so she would not have to answer any of these questions or seek out the one who possibly could. "You know, I think I preferred myself when things were much simpler than this, Argos. Ignorance truly is bliss." A soft sigh through rosebud lips before the mug was raised to consume the bitter liquid. [break][break]
Cassandra much preferred her coffee mixed with an unhealthy amount of sugar and a dash of sweetened cream to truly make her teeth ache. But, well, perhaps she had developed a taste for things beyond her reasoning. Placing the mug back down, she rested her chin upon her palm and idly looked out the window of the cafe she currently inhabited. The day was sunny and invited nearly anyone forth to go and enjoy it. Should she not do the same? A part of her wished to venture out and simply allow her feet to carry her forward to whatever destination would lay within her path, or to simply vanish within the ether and cast it all behind her. Shifting her free arm from the table, she ran her hand in Argos's silken fur as her familiar leaned into her touch amiably. At the end of it all, she supposed she truly wished for a quiet life without the need to bring forth steel and flame. [break][break]
Her conscience would not allow her to fade away into such obscurity, though. This world had need of people that could brandish forth their sword or magic in honor of those that could not do so themselves. "I find myself missing home the more we're here. I need to make the most of where I'm at though, no?" A few odd stares were cast her way as she conversed with a seemingly ordinary dog, but Cassandra did not mind. It was better to receive stares of odd bewilderment than those that knew of her notoriety--at least it had been so back within Etheirys. The young woman continued to hope and pray that her friends and comrades were doing well and that the world continued it's newly fragile peace. What more could one hope for? The unknown stretched out before her and all she could do was keep moving forward.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Oh, had she been that obvious with her emotions? Cassandra felt chagrined at being read so easily, especially when she did not personally hold any bitterness towards Caius. Some emotions could not be helped no matter how well-intentioned the individual may be. Zenos had been a thorn in her side for years, and she could not help the negative emotions that swelled within her heart when Caius explained he had bested the man within their first encounter. "Forgive me, it is not that I doubt your strength. You would need to hold a staggering amount to run a company such as this and still be able to lead from the frontlines," she placated with a bow of her head. "But Zenos was an adversary I encountered many times that nearly always lead to some sort of injury upon my person and those around me. It is enough to know he is no longer a threat at present." [break][break]
A murder scene? Visible displeasure marred Cassandra's expression at that sudden revelation. No, she did not believe Hades had been the cause of such a situation, but she would not put it past him to take advantage if it served his own ends. "I cannot say that such an admittance surprises me, but I do not believe him to be the cause of a murder. He will set out to serve his own ends if it suits him, but Emet-Selch does not resort to such methods on a mere whim." She was certain of that much down to her very soul. The topic of which she still had to broach with the man when she next met with him. Memories were beginning to plague both her waking hours and in her sleeping world as well. Cassandra was by no means a fool--and she knew of the connection between the two. She simply needed to know the full weight of what such a thing meant to the both of them. [break][break]
Argos was not a canine to be bought by such paltry offerings! Especially when said familiar was quite used to a higher standard of cooking due to Cassandra. Her lips curled into an apologetic smile as Caius would find himself once more rebuffed by the rather contemptuous canine. Another turn of the head delivered the answer to the question of whether such ordinary treats would be enough to win him over. Cassandra bowed her head as the topic soon returned to Hades as she thought over his warming. It was a statement meant in earnest and she could not begrudge him such a sentiment. Hades was a being even she would be hard pressed to fight against without the overwhelming amount of light aether ripping apart her very soul. [break][break]
"I will keep your words close to heart as I hope you do mine. Emet-Selch is a powerful man that should not be easily disregarded no matter my thoughts on the matter." Cassandra could only hope this current predicament she found herself in would not press her into a corner. The young woman was quite tired of finding herself in such situations enough for several lifetimes.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Cassandra could only stare at Caius in shocked silence as he spoke of his encounter with Zenos. A chill settled at the base of her spine at the knowledge that Caius had been able to kill Zenos when battling with the monstrous man had nearly killed her more than once. It was not that she did not believe her superior, but she could not deny a sense of bitterness that settled within her stomach. It was an unbecoming reaction from her. It was a relief to know that Caius had survived the encounter and had even bested one of the most trying of her foes. The duality of emotions never did cease to amaze her, and she had to remind herself there was no shame in the emotions she now felt. "Forgive my silence. It is simply out of surprise that you did encounter him and defeated him as well. He was a constant source of chaos and destruction within my star, and I regret that he was able to continue delivering such methods here." [break][break]
There would always be those stronger than herself after all. Cassandra knew that and would take this as yet another reason to continue bettering herself for the next fight she found herself in. Each foe she had set herself against caused her to push past what she believed her limits to be. This would be no different than all of her past encounters. "When I last met with him in my world, he was left for dead after our ensuing duel. Zenos was often known for defeating death itself, though. I pray he remains beyond reach for both Zephon and for Etheirys." Cassandra had no wish to encounter the Garlean prince ever again in her current life or in another. The man lived only for the thrill of a battle that would set his soul aflame and she simply did not--no matter how much he believed that she did. [break][break]
"Since you have already encountered Zenos, then I would not be surprised if you already knew the source of my information," Cassandra admitted with a sigh. As much as she wished to keep from mentioning Hades in this instance, she could not find it in her to lie on his behalf. Caius deserved to know the truth of who had given his name out, and Cassandra felt the keen need to also protect Hades from his own machinations. Well, from his own flippant ways, anyway. "Upon my star, he was known as Emet-Selch, but he goes by the name of Solus on Zephon now." Briefly, she cast a glance to Argos as Caius reached a hand out to the rather large canine. For a small moment, she almost believed her familiar would reach out his nose towards the outstretched hand, but Argos simply turned his head to the side with what seemed like contempt. A rich, amused laugh escaped her at the reaction. No, her familiar really did have his standards set high for those he deemed worthy of his attention. [break][break]
"Do not dismay, Caius, for Argos has always been like this. It was quite an ordeal for me to earn his respect and affections when we first met." Well, the second time they met for them both, the specifics of time travel were still quite unknown to her. Cassandra reached out her own hand to run her fingers through Argos's fur as the familiar leaned his head into the affectionate gesture. "As for Solus, it is with him that my business was with--is still with. He is not someone that goes out of his to wreak havoc as Zenos did, but I will not lie that he can be someone with his own machinations that can be seen as detrimental. I do not believe he has any reason to cause harm to anyone on Zephon unless as a means of self-defense, though."
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Roasting alive? Cassandra felt her lips quirk into a secret smile at that comment. No, she doubted she would be roasting any time soon. The heat in Torensten did little to compare to the deserts of Ala Mhigo or even Thanalan. At least the land here was by the sea, which gave it a nice breeze quite a bit of the time. "I assure you, the weather here will do little to affect me," she stated with amusement. Besides, as a Black Mage, she could quite easily cool herself off with the right ice spells. With a flourish of her hand, small dustings of ice crystals littered her palm as she shot Caius a more cheeky grin. There was a definite perk to being able to wield the magicks of both fire and ice and this counted for one of those perks, no? [break][break]
Leaning back in her chair, Cassandra considered his words with a mild trace of guilt within her eyes. She had not realized how much work had fallen onto Caius's shoulders in her absence. Her presence within the company had not been too long, but she wished she had been able to aid him more. There had been her own personal matters to take care of, though. As welcoming as the Dragonblades had been, she enjoyed the knowledge she had a more private roof over her head in regards to staying with Hades when she was not needed here. Cassandra had her own private matters that needed to be solved, and her former enemy held the answers she needed. And, well, he was certainly easier to live with than Alexander had ever been. [break][break]
"There were personal matters I needed to resolve. Ties to my past that I knew resided here that I wished to seek out before dedicating more of my time to the Dragonblades," she answered. How much of the truth was she willing to give? Hades had already told her he had given Zenos a name to seek out: Caius Dragelion. The man before her deserved to know he may have a potential target on his back with an enemy all too familiar to her. "There is something you should know--there is a person from my past that may seek you out. His name is Zenos yae Galvus and he can easily be recognized as a tall, strongly built man with long, blond hair and a third eye upon his forehead. If you do cross paths with him, I would advise caution and to escape his presence as quickly as you can. His strength is greater than most and I have held difficulty in the past defeating him." [break][break]
Cassandra folded her hands into her lap as a small sigh escaped her. Oh, she could still slap Hades for sending Zenos out wild and untamed with a name for the unhinged man to battle. Luckily, she had heard little else of her former enemy's presence and she hoped it would stay that way. "Granted, I have heard little else of him, so he may longer be here." Even her past enjoyed haunting her across different stars. Her lips soon quirked into another smile as she attempted to lift the mood with more entertaining news, "I do hope the Dragonblades do not mind another presence with me--he takes up very little space, I assure you." In a flash of golden light, her mentor's former familiar appeared at her side. Bright, blue eyes and the softest golden fur any being would ever come across! Argos sat upon his haunches in all his regal glory as he looked at Cassandra with affection before his attention turned to Caius. It instantly became one of indifference as he viewed the stranger before him. [break][break]
A giggle escaped her as she recalled how unimpressed Argos was with strangers that had yet to earn his respect.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] It had been some time since she had set foot within Torensten, and Cassandra could feel guilt gnaw at her for ignoring her duties to the Dragonblades. Her time had been spent getting accustomed to living with Hades now, which had gone more easily than she had anticipated. There was a shadowed reminisce of the daily motions she had learned when living in his home. Memories that often came to her at the oddest of moments or within her dreams. What did it mean? Cassandra had an inkling of what it could be because she did remember what the shade of Hythlodaeus had told her so long ago and then back upon the moon as well. Shades and specters of a life that was not quite her own, but she could feel it beginning to bleed into her present now. What was she to do about it? Who could she even share her musings with? Alexander was certainly the last person she could converse about this with, and she did not know how Hades would react to her suspicions. If he would even wish to in the first place. [break][break]
There were more pressing matters to worry about, though! It had been awhile since she had met with Caius, and the opportunity to catch up over lunch would be a beneficial one. (Along with pressing through her irrational fear of being poisoned again.) No one here even truly knew about her existence, which meant it was very unlikely anyone would make the attempt to do so! At least, Cassandra was attempting to reassure herself with such platitudes. For now, her blue eyes caught sight of the sign of the quaint coffee shop she had been invited to. There were very few people nearby, nor could she see many from the vantage point of the front window to the shop. The kindness Caius had put into picking this place was not lost on her in the least. [break][break]
A white sundress had been her outfit of choice along with a sweater over it to keep her somewhat warm. Cold weather did not bother her as it did many others. After her journey to Garlemald, Cassandra doubted any amount of cold weather could shock her system anymore. Even Ishgard had not been as cold as the city of magitek had been! Making her way into the shop, she noticed the familiar form of Caius already seated at a table for the two of them. Smiling to herself, she walked over before slipping into the free seat. "It has been awhile since our last meeting, no? How have you fared as of late, Caius?"
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Trade barbs with a red-headed buffoon? Cassandra tilted her head to the side as she attempted to visualize anyone she may know on Zephon with such an appearance--besides G'raha Tia. No, she could not see anyone within her mind's eye, but she made a mental note to herself for now. It seemed trouble had not stopped following her since she had been pulled from the Source. And it had not stopped following Hades, either. Then again, he did have a penchant for creating it all on his own despite whatever protestations he gave to the contrary. Her lips curled into an amused smile as she simply gave the man a noncommittal hum. What would she do if she returned to find even Hade's abode in tatters due to Alexander? Hades could certainly repair whatever damage was wrought to his home, and her fellow Warrior would bellow in complete frustration at it before attempting to ruin it once again. Truly, Alexander was a single-minded man when it came to deciding upon a path. [break][break]
Even if the said path was utterly idiotic. [break][break]
Cassandra had to resist the urge to smile in triumph at the admittance that she had been mostly right. There was a pause when he mentioned that the pomegranate was a personal favorite of his. It brought forth another odd sense of familiarity she could not begin to explain or fathom. She had felt such a way towards Hades from the moment they had met, but it had been easy to push aside with the pending pressure of saving the First and being literally torn apart from the inside by the Light aether of the Wardens. "I can only imagine with the identities you have had to maintain throughout the years." The statement was merely a factual observation without any accusatory tone to it. It was simply the way the past had played out and she had no wish to berate him over a course he would not regret. In her own musings, Cassandra wondered if she would not have done the same. What was she willing to give to see a loved one of hers again? [break][break]
The answer to that question was a dangerous one. Her thoughts were interrupted with unwanted knowledge as Cassandra sat up straighter upon her seat. "What names did you give to him? Such a question means only one thing to him, and now I wonder if I need to sleep with one eye open," she said as panic briefly flickered within her eyes. Her chest began to tighten as she recollected the various fights she had had with Zenos over the years. Cassandra had no wish to revisit a similar scenario with the man. He was a beast that had been needed to put down, and it had finally been done at the end of all things. She felt some pity for the man with no true meaning to his life but to throw himself into battle again and again to feel a spark of...whatever it was that pushed him forward. As much as Zenos believed she lived for the thrill of the next battle she did not. It was a means to an end and nothing more.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] "Your countenance is just fine as it is," Cassandra responded with an absent wave of her hand. It was an odd admittance of attraction on her part, since she was more partial to the fairer sex most of the time. Women were more to her tastes with a few men she had felt a similar way towards during her long journey. A few of the Scions came to mind, but she would never dare act upon such fancies. They were her friends first and none had ever shown an inclination towards her, anyway. The young woman was simply beginning to accept she may remain a spinster for the rest of her days at this point. The romantic within her balked at the very idea of such a life. Love was such a worthwhile emotion to her and oftentimes she found herself wishing to chase after the ideal no matter the cost to herself. Oh, what a tragic way to live if she allowed it to rule her. [break][break]
"If I am able to cook to Alex's satisfaction, then I doubt your preferences could be much worse." Her former partner could be quite a picky child at times. Cassandra was quite sure he threw his little tantrums as a way to get under her skin and annoy her as he liked to do. "In fact, you seem to be the type that prefers his food to be of nutritional value and not too much sugar. A good thing I know several recipes that fit the criteria of being nutritional and tasteful. Back in Sharlayan, I learned several worthwhile recipes from the Last Stand that I believe you would enjoy." There was an excitement in the idea of this normalcy--even if it was with its caveats. Hades could not be more troublesome than Alex, but life had an odd way of proving her wrong and enjoying it. [break][break]
A murderous dinner party? Cassandra could not help but give Hades a bewildered look at what seemed to be a very interesting story. How far removed was she in the various goings-on of Zephon? "Considering your past, can you truly blame him for thinking such? Of course, you would have a far more elaborate plan than simply killing the host outright. That would be too boring and expected." As much she wished to defend her mentor, she knew that Hades was right. Alex's solution to solving most problems was beating it with a sword or just spitting fish at it until it gave up out of sheer frustration. It could be quite effective sometimes but not nearly enough. "It may not be long before Alex knows you are here with how involved he can be in things, especially if he does cross paths with G'raha. But that is a worry that can be thought of another time, I suppose."
[attr="class","ayab-text"] One master for another? Is that how he truly viewed it, then? Cassandra bit the inside of her cheek as she considered his words and she wondered at her own motives as well. Perhaps she had spent too long beneath the light of 'savior' that she was not truly ready to cast it aside entirely. Her lips curled into a somber smile as she shrugged her shoulders a little. "Perhaps, but at least this is a choice I can make for myself without the will of Hydaelyn being pressed upon me." That was what it truly boiled down to, no? The Echo had been a blessing granted to her by Hydaelyn and it had bound her to the Source's will ever since. Of course, she had no wish to see countless Rejoinings being brought about and such a loss of life. The idea of it twisted her heart and made her feel somewhat ill--no matter how much she could empathize with the motives behind such wishes. [break][break]
"A pretty thing like myself? Why, Solus, I did not know you viewed me in such a light. Shall I say the same for you? You stand out quite well with a face as lovely as yours," she spoke, mimicking a thousands-year-old smile and playful words. Words that had been spoken by a larger part of a soul now mitigated to being only a little more than half complete. Her blue eyes glittered with a brief spell of mischief before it dispersed into light-hearted laughter. "I may not obtain the obscurity I wish for, but it is not my face that is the center of their organization. Caius is very much the driving force behind the free company along with his co-founder. I will simply be a new member until fate sees fit to push me forward. 'Tis not a path I am unfamiliar with, and at least here whatever reputation I earn will not be from the will of a primal." [break][break]
Cassandra tilted her head to the side as Hades regarded her with that rapt consideration of his. Physical food was not a necessity for him, but it was a pleasurable experience all the same. Conjuring a meal did not have the same appeal as one created with effort and desire. "I know very well that food is merely an enjoyable experience for you, but why not enjoy it however much you are able to? It would be quite lovely to be able to display the skills I acquired in my need to remain unpoisoned a third time." She truly could go her entire life without experiencing such a situation again. No one truly knew her here, so she did not expect it to happen in the near future. Hopefully. Life had a vindictive way of wishing to prove her wrong. [break][break]
Other necessities to be aware of? A thoughtful hum escaped her as she considered the question. "I did have a brief encounter with G'raha in this world, but he was not the one of my timeline. Or, well, I was not the Warrior of his, but I would rather not consider the ever-winding paths of multiple timelines. Other than him, I have no encountered anyone else from the Source or First." All she could hope for was that if more of the Unsundered Ancients appeared, then they would no longer try to commit to the Rejoinings. Zodiark's influence should no longer reach them here, but that meant little. All it took was a single desire after all. "Hopefully, I am the only one you need to worry about showing up on your doorstep."
