[attr="class","ayab-text"] The patronizing look she was given was not all that unexpected. Honestly, Cassandra was quite sure it was one of his more permanent expressions to utilize with anyone he conversed with. It was certainly better than the laughter she had been expecting with her request. It took her by surprise as she noticed the tension within her shoulders beginning to ease away when he did not outright dismiss her. Staying with Hades was not her only option, but it was the one she felt most comfortable with. She had yet to meet anyone more powerful than he was and she did not worry he would poison her food if he were to make a meal. One day her paranoia was truly going to get the better of her. [break][break]
"Tis my desire, yes," she replied simply. There was no reason for her to fight him now outside of the Source. And it was not as if she truly even wanted to before then. He had been a desperate man trying to bring back the people and home he had once known. A paradise and haven to a world that had never been influenced by Zodiark and Hydaelyn before their ruin. And then their ruin had come and their worlds have been broken into ten and three reflections. Pale imitations to what they had once known. Cassandra did not condone the methods he had gone through to achieve his goal, but she could understand his desperation and desires. Would she not wish to do the same? In the darker parts of her mind, she was sure that she would, but the loss of so much life was not worth the price. [break][break]
Her lips curled into a vibrant smile as he agreed to her request even with the snark in his town. Cassandra could feel the relief sink into her weary body and mind, but she managed to keep herself from slouching in her seat. "I do not have the intention of doing so. I know Alex would only set his mind onto he imagines you would be scheming now," she languishes with a soft sigh. The man was intelligent and brilliant, but he was far too stubborn and narrow-minded for his own good. Circumstances changed and people could change over time. Or was she being too forgiving for her own good? A result of the affection and sorrow she felt in regards to Hades? Cassandra did not really know the answers and she did not wish to ask. [break][break]
"He is my friend and mentor. I owe him more than I convey, but I am weary of following in his shadow and keeping him in line." Was it selfish of her to admit such a thing? Cassandra had been by his side for almost a decade, and she believed she had earned her due in going her own way. She would send him gil to aid in rebuilding his shop, but she did not wish to get caught within his vendetta for whoever had destroyed it. "I had no intention of staying here without paying my due. It would be remiss of me to even expect such a thing. I have recently been welcomed into the ranks of the Dragonblades to sustain myself with gil that way. And, well, if that does not work, then I can always turn to the culinary arts. If you have chores you wish done, then I am happy to aid in that or if you simply wish for a decent meal. I believe you know me well enough to realize that I am not one to be idle for long."
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Cassandra nearly snorted into her mug at Hades' smug comment in regards to her mentor. No, it really would not be that much of a stretch to assume that Alexander had been the one to ruin his own shop. There were times when his temper could get them both into trouble, and it had been up to her to ease the tension with soothing words. Her mentor could be one of the most empathetic people in the world, but he had very little in the way of words and tact. "I did wonder at that myself, I admit. But he does not often lie to me, and he was quite angry when he raged on about how the homewrecker demolished his shop. As far as I know, he is now on a quest to right these grievous wrongs against him." Her eyes darted down as she peered pensively into her hot chocolate. Should she have gone with him? [break][break]
As she stepped inside, she could not help but smile in amusement at the extravagance of it. A flash of something pierced through her mind and she suddenly wished to ask why his abode was not bedecked with hanging vines and an array of colorful flowers. Cassandra found herself stopping as a bemused expression crossed her features briefly. Again, what did these brief flashes mean? Humming to herself in contemplation, she busied herself with taking another sip of her hot chocolate. Her brow quirked at the mention of such luck always following Alexander. From one life to the next? [break][break]
"I suppose some things really are ingrained upon the soul even through countless lifetimes," she mused with a slight shake of her head. Certain predispositions in personality or preferences that one could not quite explain. These were circular thoughts that would not get her anywhere at present, though. As Hades sat down at his deck, she took the chance to sit in the seat opposite of him. "It is far more apparent in this world. The niche we attempted to carve for ourselves has quite literally been knocked down." Again, she looked down at her mug as both guilt and weariness settled upon her shoulders. [break][break]
"I do, if it is not too troublesome to you." Her fingers curled a little more tightly around the delicate porcelain. "I wish to break away from such cycles and begin anew. Or as close as I am able to in this world. I adore Alexander with all of my heart, but these past years of my life have been spent chasing after him and whatever new crisis befell Eorzea at Hydaelyn's wishes. I aim to help him however much I can, but I need to walk my own path this time." It was now that her pensive expression changed as she looked to Hades with a sheepish smile in place. "And with a stable roof over my head to do so. You are the only other person I know here from our world and someone that I do trust in an odd way. I would even be more than happy to welcome you back with a home-cooked meal every evening I am here." [break][break]
Cassandra would not be surprised if Hades started laughing outright at her for this immense favor.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Cassandra could not help but blink owlishly as the door was opened and a mug of hot chocolate offered to her immediately. Some part of her mind staggered for a moment as a barely-there memory shifted outside of her reach. Familiarity and a sense of deja-vu as a warm laugh escaped her lips before she could help herself. "You remembered, I see," she said softly. In an instant, the strands of memory broke and the words she uttered were soon thought over as her brow furrowed. What would he remember? Whenever she had sported a drink in front of Hades it had often been a glass of wine or water when she had been traveling. [break][break]
Instead, she focused on his greeting to shake away her confusion for the time being. Her lips parted to defend Alex in some manner before the man before her, but she really could not think of anything any words to defend him with. "He truly does have the worst luck in all the worlds. It has followed him here and the shop he did have was ruined in some sort of skirmish between a 'blonde homewrecker' and a 'silver-haired man'." Her mentor really did have trouble following him wherever he went, and she wished for a little peace in the meanwhile. Hopefully, the gil she sent back would aid him in paying for the repairs. She had event sent strict instructions that the gil was meant solely for repairs or food--not for his ridiculous clothing addiction. [break][break]
The mug was soon spun towards her, and she was even somewhat touched by his reassurance that it had not been tampered with. Cassandra wondered when she would be able to look at food without that familiar sense of paranoia creeping up on her. Perhaps one day? She took the offered drink as it instantly warmed her hands. A pleased sigh escaped her lips as she raised the mug to her lips. Before she sipped, she let her aether twist to blow out an icy breath to cool the steaming beverage somewhat. Warmth and chocolate blazed across her tongue before it slid smoothly down her throat. Closing her eyes, she let out a contented sigh before peering up at Hades once more. "Is it presumptuous of me to ask for entrance?"
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Cassandra wondered if she was appearing a little too eager about joining their ranks that her earnestness could be misconstrued. Perhaps it was best if she toned herself down? Sometimes she worried that she could be too over-the-top with her wishes and desire to be of use in some way. She had spent the past near-decade of her life always in motion, so she felt quite unsure of herself now that it was no longer required of her to do so. The best thing to do was simply let the situation play out and to do her best. Things would either fall into place naturally, or she would seek a purpose elsewhere. Not to mention that Alex was most likely angry at her for leaving so abruptly when she did wish to help him get himself set back up. The man was a mess without someone to keep him on the straight and narrow. [break][break]
Perhaps she also wished to step out beneath his shadow, too. Cassandra had no desire for more notoriety, but she could admit to herself that it would be beneficial to do things on her own. To be her own person and to walk her own path for a time. Would she succeed on her own or fail? It was a worthwhile experience to see for herself. "Forgive me if I do seem overeager in my overtures. It's been awhile since I have had a purpose since settling here." Her lips curled into a weary smile for a moment before she pushed aside her own frayed nerves and buried them deep within her heart. They could stay and wait there for when she was on her own and she would not burden this man more than she already had with her eccentricities. [break][break]
Assassinations and stealing jobs? By the Twelve, she had seen enough of the former and she had no wish to step on toes in regards to the latter. Cassandra would be quite relieved to no longer be involved in the politics of city-states and their leaders and to simply be a nameless face within the ranks of the Dragonblades. Well, no, it was unkind of her to think of the leaders of her homeland. Many of those leaders had been personal friends who had wished for the best for their homes and people. Cassandra would still not miss the politics, though. "I have no other questions right now, thank you. And you did mention those points before. I have no taste for either," she reassured with a slight smile. "But I shall take your offer for the bed and I shall clean up after myself later on. Thank you for your kindness, Caius."
[attr="class","ayab-text"] This was not potentially one of the better ideas she had had since arriving in Zephon. It had been the turn of two seasons since she had crossed paths with Hades, but she could admit to herself that she was concerned. The man could certainly take care of himself without any input from her, nor did she think he cared overmuch for her presence. There had always been an underlying current between the two of them she could not begin to understand or fathom. And she highly doubted that Hades would offer up any explanations should she ask. Or perhaps he would? He did not lie outright, but she knew he would misdirect if he felt the need to do so. [break][break]
The young woman sighed to herself as she soon found herself outside of the building listed upon the business card he had given her. A matchmaking business? Cassandra still found it a little difficult to swallow, but some part of her also felt that it felt quite well. What were these unknown parts of her that quaked and rejoiced in his presence? What did it mean? Why did she feel like this? It was not herself who was the shard of anyone important that she could recall. Alex had been the one that had been called a 'new-old friend by Hythlodaeus. As for herself? Well, she had been someone 'loved-and-mourned' in equal measure. Yet she was here and she was not one to often back away from a decision once she had made it. [break][break]
A soft sigh as she raised her hand before knocking her knuckles against the door in greeting. It was a shop, so she assumed she was free to enter and wait for him to appear. Knowing Hades, he had already sensed her presence the moment she approached his doorstep. But she was still polite enough to knock before she opened the door and entered the quaint shop. Cassandra wondered if she should actually purchase his services in matching her up with some poor man or woman. Would he match her with Alex as the event in Torensten had? It really did not surprise her, since she doubted anyone would match with her but her mentor. [break][break]
Love was not something that was held in the cards for her. Cassandra had given up on that romantic, girlhood dream of hers in favor of duty and realism. "Solus?" she called out hesitantly. Yes, she did recall that he preferred not to be called by his true name or the role of his Amaurotian days. The name still felt quite wrong upon her tongue, but Cassandra was respectful when she could be. Perhaps he would even be surprised by her presence. If nothing else, that gave her some amusement.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Another Red Mage? Cassandra wondered if this Celes was from the Source, or if the others worlds truly had such similar magic? Who knew? It was clear to her that there were more stars than just the reflections of the Source. Noctis had also proven that when he had been pulled into her world. She wondered how he was doing, or if he was able to keep the promise he had made. No doubt he had with the conviction he had shown in getting back to his home and his friends. A part of her wished very deeply that she would be able to return to Eorzea at some point, too. The burden of being the Warrior of Light was too heavy for her to mantle sometimes, but she worried what would happen in the aftermath of her absence along with Alex's. [break][break]
"Well, I hope not too envious. I do have experience as another class of combat as well, but I'm not sure how familiar you would be with a dancer's abilities," she teased with a light smile. It was largely a supportive role, but it could be quite lethal for those unfamiliar with it. Most of all, she did wish to feel more at ease here. This world was allowing her to be more relaxed in regards to the lack of fighting she had done since arriving, but she still felt the urge to help others. Cassandra had been worried that her desire to aid others had shifted to nothing more than duty and habit since becoming a Warrior of Light. No one else could do the job but herself and she had fallen into a vicious, endless cycle as a result. Unlike her previous enemy, she could not sustain herself on the thrill of conflict or the excitement of finding a worthy opponent. By the Twelve, she hoped she never ran into Zenos upon this world. [break][break]
"I assure you, poison is the last thing on my mind with my own experiences regarding it," she replied with a weak laugh. The statement had no doubt been meant in jest, but being poisoned more than once was somewhat traumatic. If she could not trust her own food, then what could she trust? "That is more than fair. Unless anyone wishes for me to make a complicated dish, then I tend to stick with more common ingredients. But I will replace what I have used as needed. I truly do wish to earn my keep however I can and to find a purpose for myself here again. Even if you deem me unfit to join your fighting ranks, then I can do so by cooking for you all. I am not one to boast of much, but I do pride myself on being an experienced chef."
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Cassandra slowly nodded her head in agreement with Caius' assessment. They could both speak and theorize about what armor would be best, but it was most easily decided when they saw what she could do in combat. Her own preferences were for speed over strength due to her own build, but she did tend to get up close and personal as a Red Mage. The rapier was not just for show as she knew how to wield it adeptly enough. Most of her fallbacks included casting her spells from a distance, but the maneuvers of the Red Mage also consisted of getting close to her opponent. "I do rely heavily upon my magic, but I also fight in close combat as well. I suppose it depends upon which class I'm relying upon at the time. Red Magic is certainly more versatile, but Black Magic can overwhelm my opponents with the strength of it." [break][break]
"But you are right. We shall both know better once you have seen my fighting style for yourselves. Red Magic will be my fallback since there is not much aether in this world to utilize my other spells for too long. I have no wish to drain this world if it can be helped. There is such a fragility here that it surprises me the world has sustained itself for this long." Cassandra was not nearly as attuned to the aether of the world as someone like Matoya or Y'sthola could be, but even she could sense that something was not quite right. It made her quite envious of Hades and the sheer amount of aether he contained within himself. Sustained spell-casting meant very little for him as he had recreated nearly all of his city just from his own aether over time. [break][break]
Cassandra wondered if she should seek him out once she was more settled here. It would be nice to see if he was doing well and to reassure him that she had not spoken of his presence to Alex. As always, she continued to feel that enigmatic pull even when he was not near her at all. "Protein is certainly important to keep your strength up. But there are ways to make rations more palatable. If you're amenable to allowing me use of your kitchen, I can make you a meal. Most dishes can be incredibly easy to make with the right ingredients and some patience!"
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Her lips quirked into an amused smile as Caius seemed to perk up at her latter mention of being a cook. It had her a long time to become as adept as she was now. Truthfully, she had been quite horrible when she had first started out. Even boiling water had been a difficult task as she had often left the water unattended for too long, which had left the pot to be scorched by the fire. The learning curve for her had been steep, but Cassandra was quite of the progress she had made over the years. She had even served the Sultana with her finest dish and Nanamo had proclaimed the best she had ever eaten. The memory of Lolorito's sheer scorn and dismay at her success would forever warm her heart and amuse her to no end. [break][break]
"I may have to look into something stronger, going by your own accounts. I prefer to fight at a distance, but such things cannot always be helped. Even barrier magic will break after a while and it is better to be protected than to die from your own hubris," she mused as she took another sip of her drink. Black Magic was destructive, powerful, and often hard to dodge. That did not make her invulnerable, though. This particular branch of magic was often a glass cannon at times, which was why she had supplemented it with her Red Magic to give her an advantage when she did have to be in close combat. Perhaps reinforced leather with some armor plating on top? Something light but it would still allow her the maneuverability she needed for her particular style. [break][break]
A weaponsmith? Now her own attention perked as she glanced down at her rapier. Cassandra had forged her blade through the trials of Eureka. She had yet to meet a better blacksmith than Gerolt, but she was willing to trust Caius in at least looking over her blade should the need arise. "I shall keep that in mind. My rapier has been altered quite a lot over my journey, so I hope it does not prove to be too much of a challenge if it does need repairs," she teased with an easy smile. The blade had truly been attuned to her and her own needs, so she had no wish or desire to ever utilize a new weapon. [break][break]
"In my world, we are called culinarians. I have trained quite extensively over the years in a few different areas of cooking that may be unique to my world. Truth be told, it took me a long time to gain the experience I have now. I could barely boil water or scramble eggs when I started. If you have a preference for seafood dishes, I've been told that those are my best ones." Doman food had to be favorite to prepare, cook, and then consume. There was something so unique about the Far Eastern dishes she had been exposed to during her journey through Doma.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Perhaps the kick had missed, but she had obtained her goal of ruining that horror of a hairstyle! Cassandra almost wished to ask if he had been allowing another Jandelaine to style his hair. Then she recalled that the young man had far better style than that and most likely would have laughed himself silly upon seeing Alex's hair. Her brow arched as she placed her hands on her hips and regarded him with a rather cool gaze as he refused to meet her eyes at her question. By the Twelve, he had broken whatever he had saved on this getup, had he not?! This was why he could never be trusted to go alone through the Sapphire Exchange in Ul'dah without spending all of his gil. [break][break]
"It's not for the greater good, Alex. You are just a clotheshorse with no sense of saving." This was why his attempt at a business was going so poorly! Any revenue he made was drained to expand his already ridiculous wardrobe. The only reason Cassandra was still aiding him was because of their bond and because he would bankrupt himself without anyone watching him. She pitied the poor woman that ever married him and realized how horrible he was with gil. "And for that I am grateful. I doubt Nero would take it well to seeing his hairstyle being pilfered by us 'savages'." [break][break]
His rather abashed reaction had her giggling to herself as she watched him play with his hair almost self-consciously. Cassandra considered herself lucky in that regard when it came to her hair. Her own platinum locks were quite thick, but the sheer length of it made it more easily stylable. She almost wished to suggest he grow out his hair more, but he already looked disheveled enough most of the time without needing to braid it. Something that would be relegated to her most likely. "Alex, stick with what looks good on you. Your hair is iconic at this point, so why change something that does not need to be?" [break][break]
A huff of laughter escaped her as she shrugged her shoulders in response to his question. Cassandra had no one to hope for in this dating event because she did not know anyone. Well, that was not strictly true. She knew Alex and she knew Emet-Selch and that was the extent of her social circle. Of course, she had been matched with her mentor and she doubted Emet-Selch had any wish to spend an evening with her if he had even signed up for this, to begin with. Somehow, she had a feeling he may have done so just for sheer curiosity or amusement. Chasing after the remnant of something that could never be regained. "No one in particular. I do not know anyone here besides you after all. I simply thought it would be a nice diversion from my usual routine."
[attr="class","ayab-text"] The reassurance was kind of him to give her. Cassandra did her best to calm her nerves so she would not inconvenience him any further. This was not the way she had wished to leave a first impression with her insecurities and fears. Everyone had them no matter who they were, but she did not wish for them to get in her way. Eventually she did need to learn how to handle them better so they did not control her life as much as they currently did. "I try not to. Most call it sheer stubbornness with a hint of stupidity," she replied with a light laugh. At times she did not know when to give up, but this far it had gotten her through most of the tribulations of her life. [break][break]
"General Chere reminds me of one of my friends back home. Her name is Y'shtola and she can be quite a fierce woman when first meeting her, but you will never meet anyone more loyal and capable towards her friends." No, she did not believe she had much to fear from General Chere as long as she showed she was capable and serious-minded about this. But she did wonder how the rest of the Scions were faring back home, or if her absence was not all that big of a deal. Eorzea would survive with or without her. Besides, it seemed that memories here could be a fickle thing for many. Those she did meet again may not recall her at all. [break][break]
Cassandra found herself wincing with empathy for the wounds Caius had sustained from this kraken. Oh, yes, she could recall her own similar experience with Leviathan. How many times had she nearly drowned because of that Primal? Oh, if only she had been given the Kojin's Blessing then. Breathing underwater made many of her fights easier, considering how often she nearly drowned from something. At least that was one form of dying she did not have to worry about! "Fighting in armor while near water is never a good recipe for battle. It can drag you down just as easily as it protects you. I tend to prefer reinforced leather myself. It offers decent protection while allowing for more mobility, but that is simply my preference." Her lips curled into a slight smile as she poured herself another drink. [break][break]
"But I am glad that you're doing well now. If you have any cloth or leather garments that need to be repaired, I know how to do those quite well. Being able to mend your own armor tends to be a must while traveling. Or if you have need of a cook while we wait for General Chere, I am happy to be of use."
