[attr="class","ayab-text"] Cassandra was still questioning her decision to go through with this event. It was quite similar to the Valentione's event back in Eorzea that happened every year, and she could still recall running through that maze with Alex as a fun diversion. No, neither of them had made it to the end without the tether breaking between them. It only made it further evident to her just how imcompatible they would have been as a couple. Not that she had ever given much credence to such a thing! He was her mentor and friend before all else. And, well, she had more of an attraction towards women, anyway. Which only had her thinking of Ayako and missing the shorter woman all the more. Perhaps one day she would meet her again, but there was little she could do on that front. [break][break]
At least she could say that she adored the venue for which her date would take place. A lovely stretch of beach that seemed to go on forever. It reminded her of the shores along Shirogane and she wondered if there would be Far Eastern cuisine here that she could indulge in. Of course, she would need to find the right ingredients first. It had been a long while since she had allowed anyone to prepare a meal for her. One day she may trust others' intentions again, but being poisoned twice only had that trust going so far. Becoming a specialized Culinarian had it's perks and she had worked hard to become renowned in Eorzea for her cooking. Even the Sultana had complimented her! [break][break]
But that was neither here nor there! Cassandra glanced down at the colored card in her hand as she wondered who she had gotten for this. For some reason, she had a sinking feeling it would be someone she knew. And there was only one person she knew personally in this world. Hades did not count, since the two of them preferred to avoid one another. His presence only filled her with an unfathomable sadness and he always looked at her as if he was seeing someone else. Yet another mystery that she would enjoy solving if she ever gained the chance.
He'd looked at the card and his destination. So whoever he was to meet was at the beach, yeah? It was a good thing he'd already gotten an outfit remade specifically for it, or he'd have even more trouble rebuilding his guild. He just couldn't help but wonder who his date was. Maybe he got someone that would be truly special, someone he would spend the rest of his time here with. Now that he thought about it; could he afford to get attached? He'd have to go someday and he doubted whoever it was would want to return to the Source with him. Especially if he got that close, they'd probably know the Source was hell at times. Really, no matter how much he heard of other worlds, he found that, on a consistent basis, none of them were ever quite in as much danger as the Source. But, for now, he could relax, take in the salty air of the sea, the warmth of the sun, and smile, pushing aside such thoughts.
'Course, the idea of something romantic went out the moment he saw her sitting by her lonesome on the beach, back turned to him. Yeah, the moment he saw her, he knew. He already knew. They'd have similar likes and dislikes, considering what they'd both went through over the years. Any matchmaker who didn't know the extent of their relationship would've paired them together with no trouble whatsoever. He grinned, suppressing the laughter already threatening him. Yeah, as much as he loved his dear apprentice, there was no way he was passing this up. He really, really hoped that she didn't have anything romantic planned for the date, because that was all about to crash and burn, because when did he ever get the chance to actually cut loose with a friend?
So that was how, as quietly as his feet shifting in the sand could carry him, he found himself behind Cassandra, a lecherous grin on his lips. "Hey there, hot stuff. You're lookin' fiiiiine." He remarked, waggling one eyebrow after the other, carrying on for a few moments before bursting out in laughter he could no longer contain. Yeah, even if there was no romance to be had here, he would make sure that it was a good time for the two of them. Probably.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] There are times when Cassandra wondered just exactly what she had done in a past life to deserve this. Her luck had truly gone downhill the moment she met Alexander because his luck just naturally canceled out all the good luck one could amass. The voice is used had her recoiling a little in shock and dismay as she turned her head to look at him. Of course, she had already sensed his aether before he had gotten close. That still did little to change the shiver of disgust that went down her spine at the grin he directed her way. Cassandra felt her expression become deadpan as she stared up at him with eerily blank eyes. [break][break]
"I should have known. Who else would put down a dislike for Zenos and a fear of anyone making their food," she lamented with a forlorn sigh. Even on Zephon her luck would not change apparently! But it was still good to see him and know he was doing well enough to attend this event. Cassandra did feel guilty about leaving him to his own search for the one that had destroyed his shop. If he needed her help in the future, then she would help him without a single thought. It would just be nice if she could find her own path without being dragged around Zephon chasing rumors, though. [break][break]
She waited until he had his laughing fit before idly aiming a kick for his ankle. Standing from the bench, she brushed off herself off before glaring at him a little balefully. "It's a good thing we were given this card because you wouldn't be able to pay for this date. How much gil did you spend on that outfit, Alex?" Oh, she knew just how bad he was at saving his gil. He bought idiotic things without thought. Not to mention that slicked-back hair! Cassandra did not hesitate before reaching and ruffling his hair until it fell flat back across his face. "There! Now you don't look like Nero. Why would you even want his hairstyle in the first place?"
This time there would be a minor difference as his leg pulled back just in time, causing the kick to miss entirely. He seemed rather satisfied with that. Puffing his chest out a little. "Saw it coming this time." Apparently kicking him was just something she liked to do, and did at any given opportunity. Along with other things. Oh yes, there was plenty that needed to be taken care of. But this was meant to be a fun excursion, wasn't it? He wouldn't go and ruin it for his apprentice. There's a brief flash of memory for him. Back to a time when she was just starting out, decrepit staff, doe-eyed stare. How long had it been since either of them had really gotten a chance to relax without something going horribly wrong? Well, the date was still just starting, plenty of--"Ack--hey!" He was so rudely interrupted by her ruffling his hair. Rude!
He'd worked so hard on it, too. As she started grilling him on the outfit and how much it cost. He couldn't look her in the eye, turning his gaze away as there was a slight coughing sound. It also sounded like there'd been an actual number given amidst said cough, but he kept it quiet, and vague. Needless to say, it wasn't a number he was proud of. "It's for the greater good." He simply remarked. Besides, he had to dress appropriately did he not? And then she started giving him grief about the hair! "For what it's worth, just the hair is fine. I share nothing else in common with Nero." Besides, it's not like he had anything else to share with the Garlean. Plus, it wasn't like he was trying for it either.
Which he started explaining, as he scratched his neck a little. "But to answer your question; coincidence. My hair's too thick to get any other shape gelling it back and getting it fancy. And I can't get it to stay still for the life of me, so there's some locks coming loose." There was a reason that he normally went with aesthetically disheveled. He really couldn't get anything else to actually stick. His eyes drifted to one of his locks of hair, reaching up and playing with it a little. Too heavy, but if nothing else it made things a bit easier for him in the colder regions of this world.
So he'd change the subject; pointing at Cassie. "Never took you for the type to go on a blind date. Who were you hoping for?" Come on, did she have someone she admired? Someone she was shooting bedroom eyes to?
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Perhaps the kick had missed, but she had obtained her goal of ruining that horror of a hairstyle! Cassandra almost wished to ask if he had been allowing another Jandelaine to style his hair. Then she recalled that the young man had far better style than that and most likely would have laughed himself silly upon seeing Alex's hair. Her brow arched as she placed her hands on her hips and regarded him with a rather cool gaze as he refused to meet her eyes at her question. By the Twelve, he had broken whatever he had saved on this getup, had he not?! This was why he could never be trusted to go alone through the Sapphire Exchange in Ul'dah without spending all of his gil. [break][break]
"It's not for the greater good, Alex. You are just a clotheshorse with no sense of saving." This was why his attempt at a business was going so poorly! Any revenue he made was drained to expand his already ridiculous wardrobe. The only reason Cassandra was still aiding him was because of their bond and because he would bankrupt himself without anyone watching him. She pitied the poor woman that ever married him and realized how horrible he was with gil. "And for that I am grateful. I doubt Nero would take it well to seeing his hairstyle being pilfered by us 'savages'." [break][break]
His rather abashed reaction had her giggling to herself as she watched him play with his hair almost self-consciously. Cassandra considered herself lucky in that regard when it came to her hair. Her own platinum locks were quite thick, but the sheer length of it made it more easily stylable. She almost wished to suggest he grow out his hair more, but he already looked disheveled enough most of the time without needing to braid it. Something that would be relegated to her most likely. "Alex, stick with what looks good on you. Your hair is iconic at this point, so why change something that does not need to be?" [break][break]
A huff of laughter escaped her as she shrugged her shoulders in response to his question. Cassandra had no one to hope for in this dating event because she did not know anyone. Well, that was not strictly true. She knew Alex and she knew Emet-Selch and that was the extent of her social circle. Of course, she had been matched with her mentor and she doubted Emet-Selch had any wish to spend an evening with her if he had even signed up for this, to begin with. Somehow, she had a feeling he may have done so just for sheer curiosity or amusement. Chasing after the remnant of something that could never be regained. "No one in particular. I do not know anyone here besides you after all. I simply thought it would be a nice diversion from my usual routine."
