"Uuuuugh..." a knight in darkened silver armor groaned, his plate clanking against one another as he slowly rose to one knee. "What in the gods... NNGH!" Instantly Garland's hand CLUTCHED at his head, the final confrontation with his old foes flashing before his glowing, yellow eyes! Blades clash, magic cast, raw power of dark and light battling for supremacy! The last thing he remembered... was a blade striking deep into his chest, severing his life from his body before even pain was recognized! All he felt... was everything fading away... disappearing into the light...
Suddenly, Garland's hand would shoot across his chest, his gauntlet stroking across what he thought was his wound, only to instead slip along cold, finely crafted steel. As the Knight stood to his full height... he would glance around, the hand upon his breastplate reaching up to take the handle of his massive sword, withdrawing it in a SWIFT draw and resting it upon his pauldron.
"...There was a war in these woods..." Garland whispered, his voice a low echo through his steel helm, almost like a ghost whispering through the barren walls it haunted. "I can still smell the blood." Indeed, even without a corpse in sight, it was almost as if the spirits of the dead preserved this battlefield, the lust for battle, the death of both friends and foe alike still weaved between the trees, seeped up from the dirt, almost seemed to claw at the very armor Garland wore. If he closed his eyes, the knight could imagine the massive battle fought here, limbs severed and organs rend with weapons until their edges dulled and points broke. When their tools failed them, their hands would do, clubbing down their foes until they ceased movement. Creatures of a sort rarely beheld by Garland's or anyone else's would scream into battle as mounts, as weapons, biting and slicing into the thin plates of metal these people thought would protect them, merely crumpled beneath the force of these monsters...
Dropping back down to one knee, Garland would gently stroke his free hand through the soft, moist earth below him, sensing the indention of a paw still scarring the surface, its claws still dotting along a small radius... a lion, perhaps...? Something else would catch his eye, a piece of rusted armor, perhaps an armlette, crushed and battered nearly flat and yet its ornate design still obvious upon its face. It rested comfortably beneath the winding roots of an old tree, webs and insects having enveloped it as the tree had the armlette. The taste of satisfaction filled Garland's mouth as he stood tall and began his venture here. A delicious welcome into this alien world... but even if it is so, his mission did not change. Garland must find this world's demons and bend them to his will... so that he might yet complete his mission and fulfill his drive.

There was a darkness to these woods that was difficult for her to ignore. A deep-seated chaos and bloodshed that seemed to soak into the very soil and the trees surrounding her. Slim fingers pressed against the weathered bark of a tree near her and she felt herself shudder somewhat beneath the weight of it all. The aether of this forest was corrupted and twisted in a way she hesitated to even draw upon. Cassie wished she had been more studious within Conjury, but she knew just enough to aid her within her Red Magic. This land was so very different from Eorzea and she felt the loss of her world keenly. As much as a new start was appealing to her, she knew that she needed to get back there somehow. What would happen without her there? Had Alexander been brought here as well?[break][break]
She paused in her movements as she caught the sound of a low thud. It was muffled and difficult to hear, but she had learned to trust her senses over the years. Her half-Elezen status allowed her more keen hearing than the average Hyur. Her footsteps were light and nearly soundless as she ventured closer to the source of the sound. The chakrams she had indicated her Dancer soul crystal was in use, and it left her with the knowledge needed for quick movements and precise attacks if needed. Cassie sincerely hoped she was not happening upon a dark creature of some sort. [break][break]
Her amber eyes narrowed as she peered around the thick trunk of a tree to catch sight of a heavily armored being kneeling upon the ground. Confusion flickered across her features as she simply watched them stroke the ground beneath them. Were they sensing what she could? Cassie was unsure if she should announce her presence or simply fade back into the woods behind her. What if they were injured or lost? She had been lost the moment she had awoken in this world and she would feel it keenly if she were to leave them here without aid. She was still cautious as she allowed her footsteps to easily be heard as she ventured to a safe distance away from the armored being. "Are you injured?"
Garland's gaze would shift up as the woman drew within his senses, his yellow eyes flashing with interest as they fell upon their target. Her attire almost resembled that of a white mage without the cloak, or maybe a priest without her robes. They were tight, clingy, as if she were using the sight of her own body as a weapon, the mediums for battle being twin rings with sharpened edges... an unorthodox choice of tools. One more thing caught his eye... those being the pointed ears of the woman that stuck out... only barely among her mostly human features. Indeed, had Garland not been a warrior of his standing, he might've not been perceptive enough to catch such a minor detail, so rounded were these tips. Most of society, in Garland's time at least, was made up of humans, other human-like races rarely seen within the walls of Cornelia and even so, they were more akin to servants than citizens. Garland, himself had never truly laid eyes upon a creature such as this, her movements as a small gust of wind, her swaying as smooth as stream across the rocks. It was as if she epitomized the concept of grace and dexterity, the control over her body... commendable. Still, Garland could see something familiar in her... a spark he had only witnessed in his rivals from the present.
...A Warrior of Light...?
Had King Cornelia continued to expand the ranks of his favored knights...? Even to the point of allowing non-humans into their ranks? What was more, she seemed ill-like a warrior and more fit the role of a dancer or entertainer. No armor...? No conventional weaponry....? To Garland, she looked as alien as the monstrous, one-eyed flying beasts that haunted his keep hundreds of years in the future! Slowly, the knight would rise to his feet, his head slightly tilted as he attempted to make heads or tails of this newcomer... Indeed, a woman such as this would be better suited to a position in the royal court, a place of futility and illusions of safety rather than straddling the lines of reality. Surrounded by the dead, blood still tainting the air around them with the smell of copper, the earth unsteady with the bones of men lying just underneath... and she seemed just as comfortable with it as anyone!
...Was this truly further back in the past...?
"Be mindful of whom you approach." Garland remarked coldly, his voice like a hammer, smashing down upon the dancer. "The spirits of battle still linger in this place. They may yet command us to duel as the armies of times past have." Seemingly taking Garland at his word, the woman would retreat slightly, putting a comfortable distance between them! Garland had no wish to battle this woman... yet. From what he could see, she was merely a new addition to the ranks of his old foes, likely a pick of desperation or guile, both of which disinterested him. Battles fought with one's wit were used on the battlefield through one's weapon, rather than through a... distraction such as this.
"What is your name, creature? You are... unknown to me."

[attr="class","curragepost"] Cassie was unsure of what to make of the armored man before her. His entire appearance was intimidating and not one to be underestimated. There was a darkness to him that curled around the edge of her senses and warned her to be wary. A predator amongst prey with how he carried himself and seemed to dissect her very being apart. It reminded her oddly of Zenos, but she knew it was not him beneath that armored plating. Oh, no, she had no wish to cross paths Zenos yae Galvus ever again if she could help it. Her fingers itched to curl around the smooth metal of her chakrams, but she would not provoke a fight if one could be avoided. [break][break]
His voice was of a deep baritone and quite cold to her delicate hearing. She had weathered far worse than a simple tone of greeting, though. Cassie made no view to venture closer as her concern for his wellbeing began to err into caution instead. Her head tilted to the side as she listened to him. "I can sense the unrest of the spirits within this forest and how twisted the aether here has become as a result," she replied calmly. A part of her bristled at being addressed as 'creature' because she was hardly such a thing. Was he a Hyur beneath that armor of his or something else? [break][break]
"My names is Dorea and you are unknown to me as well." Cassie held caution close to her as she simply gave him her middle name over her given one. A part of her wished to leave him to his own devices even as curiosity settled within her. What to do? Perhaps converse with him and obtain what information she could. He seemed to be as new to this world as she still was.
An odd name for an odd creature but one befitting of her nonetheless. She seemed to acknowledge the dancing death surrounding them, recognizing the ever-combative spirits that haunted this wood down to its most fundamental components. At this, Garland couldn't help but cock an eyebrow, interested with this woman's response. Indeed, ordinary men and women would walk into a place like this fearful and afraid, but not perceptive. Nothing in their pathetic little lives would lead them to truly comprehend the deeper intricacies of their surroundings, likely just chalking it up to "ghosts" in some ignorant attempt to put a face on their terror. Dorea, however... She was neither afraid nor eager to leave, seeing as she stood firm a respectful distance away. She locked eyes with the glowing yellow orbs that were Garland's and seemed more than content to interact with the knight... Noble as well as brave. Indeed, she must've been one of the newest members of the Warriors of Light as only they possessed enough confidence in themselves and in each other to dare face Garland, the harbinger of Chaos, in ANY environment! A Warrior who knew not the name of their greatest rival, however...? ...Or perhaps the Warriors had failed to alleviate Dorea of her ignorance regarding the knight's appearance?
...There was just enough evidence to keep Garland guessing, but not quite enough to sway his initial judgement.
"I am known as Garland." He the armored figure would rumble, expecting some kind of... grandiose response. Some heroic speech about his defeat or a declaration of war upon him as they had done in the present. Indeed, the warrior's grip tightened upon his blade as if anticipating a sudden and ferocious attack, one of the just against the unjust, the orderly striking with vengeance against the chaotic. He expected Dorea to raise her halos of war and charge him like the Warrior she was, to attempt to bring an end to Garland's warpath before it had truly been carved..
...However, if this were to not happen... or happen with a hesitation unbefitting of a Warrior of Light, Garland would tilt his head, bewildered... It never took much for the Warriors to leap into battle, their righteous cause always being enough to carry them through any situation! Even now, were their leader standing before him instead of this... oddly-dressed fighter, he would charge Garland, faithful to the last, even knowing that the Knight outmatched him immensely in a one-on-one duel!
"Does my name mean little to you...?" Garland would ask, his eyes flaring curiously! "Are you not a Warrior of Light?

[attr="class","curragepost"] Was his name meant to mean something to her? Cassie could perceive enough of his body language to know he was waiting for some sort of reaction from her. Yes, his armored form was certainly intimidating to behold, but she remembered Zenos and she was not sure anyone could intimidate her more than he had that first time. Of course, she was not idiotic enough to relax her guard. This man was a stranger to her and an odd one at that with his mannerisms and garb. She tilted her head to the side as she regarded this Garland once more as the temptation to laugh assailed her for but a moment. Her expression remained impassive, though. [break][break]
"Is it meant to mean something to me? If so, then I am sorry but it does not." Her brow furrowed as he outright asked if she was a Warrior of Light. Her expression was bewildered as she looked to Garland. It was not a title she was used to answering, because the people of her world knew who she was. The Source knew of her feats and celebrated her triumphs, and this man seemed as unknowing of her as she was of him. At least in the sense that he held no personal recognition of her beyond her title. A thoughtful hum escaped her as she simply shrugged her shoulders lightly.[break][break]
"I am not from your world, I assume. Nor are you from mine. Armor such as yours would have been easily recognizable to me if so." Cassie had no desire to answer his question on whether she was a Warrior of Light. This new world held no care for the titles she had or what she had done in the past. She did not wish to be one here. The Blessing of Hydaelyn was gone from her in Zephon and she had no desire to reclaim it when she was finally free to do as she pleased.
"From 'my world...?'" Garland questioned, his heavily horned helm tilting in confusion. "There is but one world. Ours. Insanity of what sort has possessed you?" The knight would begin a march towards the woman, bringing his blade up... then over his head, lightly sheathing his massive blade against his back. A weapon, much too large for any normal man to wield, the knight seemed to swing around with a fluid level of dexterity, almost as if the hulking metal mass were made of hollow wood! He had decided... that this woman was nothing less than an insane creature, something worthy of death.... but in her own time! Yes indeed, perhaps when some creature deems it time to end her life, perhaps she would be reborn in the body of someone sane... Perhaps before Garland had taken this world from the hands of the monstrous deities that abused it! Still, Garland wasn't the sort to raise his blade to the defenseless beyond what he deemed he needed to do in order to complete his goals. Perhaps when her mind... and with it, her skill with weaponry, returns to her as the world of the gods crumbles into Garland's image, Perhaps then he would engage her as a matter of... thanks for greeting him.
...A death at his blade was more than most deserved in the endless cycle of the gods, after all.
"...Perhaps I have been... hasty in my judgement of you." The Knight remarked, his voice harsh... but softer than before, its edge almost seeming to warp into a near... patronizing angle as if to draw this woman in... rather than drive her away. After all, she must've been native to this timeline, "World", as she called it. He could use her knowledge of this place to begin the growth of his dominion. Of course, with this time-period seeming to be so... different from his own, Garland would have to begin from scratch, making allies and cutting new, bloody swaths across the world. He would need a new base of operations, new fiends to enslave to grow his own power, new beasts to wrangle to his will.
...For all intents and purposes, this WAS a new world... And he was going to have to conquer it one extinguished life at a time.
"What is the nature of this place?" He questioned, walking beside the woman, gesturing with a hand for her to follow him. "It is unfamiliar to me. From where does this world anchor its existence?"

[attr="class","curragepost"] Insanity? Oh, no, he was certainly not from her world. Then again, the knowledge of the fourteen separate reflections of the Source was not a well-known one. Cassie watched him warily as he began to stalk towards her with his massive sword lifted. Her fingers were already curled tightly around her chakrams as she gathered her aether around her legs, more than ready to dash into an area of safety before he would be able to touch her. "Nothing to warrant such a sudden reaction, I am sure. Doubt my words if you like. Explore this star and see for yourself what it has to offer." She was leaning forward somewhat with her knees bent in preparation to simply dart around the large swordsman with her smaller size and hopefully better speed. [break][break]
Combat was never her first choice in situations like these. Cassie tilted her head at the softening of his tone as if he were attempting to lull her in. It was not something she would allow herself to fall for easily. "Hasty in your judgment of me? You know little enough of me to judge," she stated coolly. Her amber eyes glinted warily up at the helmeted man as she slowly eased her stance just a fraction to see where his current thought process was leading. Easing her to follow him deeper within these haunted woods? Cassie should have ignored her curiosity and left well enough alone. [break][break]
"I cannot answer you clearly. I am not familiar with this place myself," she stated plainly. For now, she hesitantly walked beside him but she kept a wary distance between them both. His earlier shock worried her somewhat, but she tried to remain openminded enough to allow for the shock of awakening here. If she was insane for dreaming up this unknown world, then the armored man walking with her was as well. It would not be the first time she had questioned her sanity.
...An inconvenience to be certain. Indeed, it seemed that this woman knew very little about the world she resided within despite Garland's assumption that she was a local. This timeline was very odd indeed... But then, it was unlikely that a mere peasant would know of the worldly bindings that tied this reality to the god's finger-tips...What disturbed Garland the most, however, was how dedicated this woman was to her story that she was, in fact, not of this "world." How annoying. She acted as if this were some kind of distant star upon which alien creatures resided, as if they were plucked from different places in the cosmos entirely and deposited on this one! She seemed... determined to cling to the idea that this place in the timeline were some kind of pocket-dimension away from her own...
...And now that Garland mused over it... It could be possible... A gauntlet-clad finger-and-thumb clasped the chin of Garland's helmet as the Knight mused over situation, growing more and more... interested. Of course, this couldn't be some kind of new world, but a seperate place in time. Garland knew from experience that the world in which he had been born had worn an infinite number of faces throughout its existence and that this could very well be in the future or past. ...But what if it was that people from different timelines across this world's history were dragged from their positions by the gods and placed here as some sort of battle-period...? A war, of sorts, of this planets mightiest warriors of both good and evil, another proxy-war on behalf of the cruel divinity that ruled over them all? What if Garland, after his defeat by HIS Warriors of Light, had been picked up by the hand of a god and placed here in order to be his champion?
"...Its just another cycle..." Garland muttered, his gaze flicking up... to the side... down at his boots. His field of view shifted by the moment, as if his eyes were dragging the pieces of this ethereal puzzle together. The fallen knight had a certain... obsession in cycles. Chiefly, in breaking them and replacing them with his own. If he could only figure out what about this timeline was different... If he could figure out how to achieve the form of Chaos once more... He could CUT this piece of time from the wasteful eternity of war the Gods had them all dreaming within... For the first time, he would be able to create a world where fate was in the hands of the individual...
HIS fate.... as well as others.
"What do you know of this place?" Garland pressed, far from content with Dorea's previous answer. "I require this knowledge readily."

[break][break][break]
[attr="class","curragepost"] It still seemed that Garland did not believe her about this being another world entirely. It was easy enough for herself since she had been to another world before. The Source consisted of itself and fourteen reflections that had been sundered from it. Worlds that had been destroyed to bring about many Calamities to cause the Rejoining and bring back those sundered reflections. Such untold death and chaos had been caused from each Calamity and she prayed that no more would be brought forth in her absence. Alexander and herself were both upon Zephon now with no known way to return back home. Only Elidibus remained to push forth his machinations and the Scions had still be trapped upon the First. Would Graha be able to send their souls back to their physical bodies from the First? [break][break]
Another cycle? Cassie looked to Garland with a bemused expression at those muttered words. A cycle of what? Her brow furrowed as she noticed the armored man looking at her once more, pressing her for information that she did not readily have. She wished to help as much as she could because she had been confused upon waking here as well. His presence unsettled her deeply, but he had not seemed overly hostile since their initial greeting. "This realm is known as Zephon, and several individuals I have come across will answer you the same as myself. This is a realm beyond our own and we have been plucked from our homes to reside here for whatever reason." [break][break]
For the machinations of gods she did not fathom. Chosen for some purpose she did not know. At least Hydaelyn had given her some explanation when she had been chosen as a Warrior of Light. A shame that her blessing of the Echo had not followed here. It would be quite useful in allowing her to gain the answers she needed. Cassie was at once both free from her previous burdens and chained into unknown circumstances as well. "I only came here recently myself so I only know a few of the towns here. I could give you directions to the nearest one if it aids you in acclimatizing here."
