She could almost remember everything leading up to this. Almost. She knew she was traveling with three other companions, and they had just finished a major part of the quest they were on. They were getting ready to confront the main villain behind everything they had gone through...and that doing so required them to return to the Chaos Shrine, which is, ironically, where their journey started. But everything after them entering the shrine was a blur. For the life of her, Joanna couldn't recall what happened after that. As if that wasn't already perplexing enough as is, the next thing she realized is that she had no clue where she was. Her memories were fuzzy, but she remembered just enough to know that that she'd quite literally traveled all over the world; none of this looked familiar.
It was obviously a major port city of some kind; at first glance, it reminded her a lot of Pravoka, though that was before she actually started to explore the area, and came to realize that this city was far larger and busier than Pravoka ever dreamed of being. It was both impressive and intimidating at the same time. But more than that, it confirmed what she was already beginning to suspect; this is definitely not the same world she lived in for her entire life. Hell, even in Corneria, she'd never seen the streets of a city so busy and full of life. Which isn't to say that Corneria was always empty and lifeless; far from it, actually. This, however, took it to a whole new level, and it was honestly a tad overwhelming for the somewhat reclusive healer. Sure, she's traveled the world, but she never saw anything like this.
Nevertheeless, she wasn't sure what to do or where to go. She assumed that a place like this must have an inn somewhere. But she had no clue where to look, and she couldn't help but feel like she was already sticking out like a sore thumb. If nothing else, it couldn't be more completely obvious that she was hopelessly lost and entirely out of her element. Normally, she'd be all for a new adventure, but all of this hitting her all at once was quickly proving to be a little too much adventure even for her tastes. Joanna let out a heavy sigh in an attempt to calm her nerves. Nothing good would come of just wandering aimlessly and looking frazzled. She just needed to get her bearings; figure out where the heck she was, and everything would work out.

Joanna listens to the man speak, raising an eyebrow at the question he blurted out. That said, he was quick to clarify that he was also fairly new to the area. However, she was finally given a name for this city, and with it, confirmation that this was indeed not her world. "Torensten...I see...my memories are unclear, but I still remember just enough to know that there's no such city in the world I come from. So I really have somehow been accosted to an entirely different world. For one, I've never seen so many airships before...where I'm from, there's only one in existence, and it's an ancient relic passed down by the gods. So to see so many of them in the sky is...well, I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around it, even though it's right in front of me." She wasn't sure why she suddenly felt so talkative. She just did.
She watched as he removed his helmet; not a bad looking guy, and seeing his face helped put her at ease. Now she was sure she could trust this man, more than ever. She couldn't help but chuckle a little at his offer to show her around, due to his subsequent admission that he didn't really know his way around himself. The blind leading the blind, as the saying go. Still, she wasn't going to turn down the company. "That suits me just fine. If I'm going to be lost in a place I've never been in before, at least it won't be by myself...though...now I can't help but wonder if my friends are here too..." She pauses a bit, a frown appearing on her face "...it worries me that I don't have any clear memories of them. I remember traveling with them, and some of our feats. But...I can't recall any details about them specifically..."
She let out an annoyed sigh "Whatever pulled me here better have a good reason for doing so. This is already beginning to grate on my nerves." Now that she had someone to keep her company, she was beginning to relax a bit, and her true personality was slowly-but-steadily beginning to show itself. She was still worried, of course. There was a lot going on, and she had no idea what any of it was or why it was happening. But, if nothing else, she was feeling a lot less panicked about the situation. Maybe now she could actually get her bearings and come up with a plan of some sort. "I don't suppose you know of anywhere that serves food, do you?...in all of this mess, I'm just now realizing that I haven't eaten all day. Also, do they accept Gil as payment here?...please tell me they accept Gil as payment."

The more she wandered around, the more Joanna realized she had absolutely no idea where she was. And the more she started to realize that she had no idea where she was, the more worried she was getting. All kinds of questions were going through her mind. If this wasn't her world, then where was she? How did she get here? Why didn't she have any memory of coming here? Where were her friends? Were they also brought here? Why couldn't she clearly remember them? The list went on and on, and she was beginning to grow more panicked with each unanswered question that popped into her head. The only thing that was clear to her was that she definitely wasn't dreaming. She pinched her own cheek just to be sure, and the small-but-unmistakable jolt of pain confirmed that she was very much awake. Not that knowing that did her any good.
For the time being, she wandered aimlessly throughout the city, trying very hard not to look as overwhelmed as she felt. She still couldn't get over how much more full of life and energy this place was. She also couldn't find the words to explain it, but the fact that the overall technology in this place was more advanced than that of her old world; a lot of contraptions and simple machines she'd never seen before. In fact, the most advanced thing from her world was the airship she and her friends found buried in the Ryukahn Desert, and it was a one-of-a-kind ancient artifact. Yet she could see several airships in the skies above. There were also a lot of people riding on the backs of these large yellow birds she'd never seen before. What was next? People riding dragons?
Were she not so hopelessly lost and confused, she would have found all of this to be quite fascinating and love for a chance explore this place and learn everything she could about it. But in this exact moment, fear and doubt was rapidly outweighing any of the charm she'd otherwise feel about this new place. Which came to a head when she bumped into someone. She stumbled forward as a result of the sudden impact, though she managed to keep her balance and not fall over. Afterwards, she looked up, and her face went pale when she saw who had bumped into her; a man wearing some rather dark and sinister-looking armor. While she could tell from a glance that it wasn't actually him, her mind immediately went to Garland, the renegade knight from Corneria who turned his back on his kingdom and kidnapped the princess.
However, just as she was beginning to panic, the man spoke, and his pleasant tone caught her completely off guard. Enough so that she found herself inclined to respond. "N-no...you're fine. It was my fault for wandering round with my head in the clouds..." She paused for a bit and looked the man over. For some unknown reason, in spite of his alarming appearance, she felt compelled to speak further. Before, she was too nervous to approach anyone about her concerns, but now that she was already speaking with someone, it couldn't hurt to try. Something in the back of her mind was telling her that this man seemed trustworthy, and if she ended up being wrong, it's not as though she's incapable of defending herself. What did she have to lose?
"...to tell you the truth, though...I'm a little...no...I'm very lost. I have no idea where this is or how I got here...even my memories of events up until I came here are fuzzy..."

Good ol' Provo. Joanna had some...mostly fond memories of this place. It was where she ended up after her sudden and abrupt arrival in this strange land that she's slowly-but-steadily come to call her home, and it was where she met her first friend and ally. She hadn't seen much of Faris since then, but she had no doubt that he was doing well. She still held the advice he gave her close to her heart, and has been doing quite well for herself. She was now a part of the Dragonblades, and was also making quite a name for herself as a healer and exterminator of undead. She still hadn't had any luck regaining the power she lost upon coming here, but she wasn't as concerned about that. If there was a way to do so, she'd find it eventually. No point in rushing things. It could be that there was a very good reason for it happening to begin with.
As she wandered through the streets of the port city, her blue eyes landed on an interesting sight. She spotted what appeared to be a young man, dressed in the familiar garbs of a Red Mage. In fact, he wouldn't have looked the least bit out of place in her world at all. Her heart skipped a beat. Could it be? Had she actually stumbled upon another ally from her world? But...no. As she looked at him, she didn't feel the same sense of familiarity that she did when she found Laurelin. She had a gut feeling that he was from the same world, but he definitely wasn't one of her allies. Nevertheless, seeing him in a state of such obvious despair spurned the blonde White Mage into action. If he really was from her world, then he was undoubtedly very lost and confused, and she knew all too well how that felt.
She approached him from the front, coming up to him slowly so that he'd have ample opportunity to see her coming; after all, the last thing she wanted to do was startle him. She paused for a moment, wondering what she should say, though nothing specific came to mind. Instead, she settled on simply saying "Excuse me...is everything alright? If you're lost, I'd be happy to help you." Despite being fairly certain he was from her world, she tempered her expectations, knowing that there was still a chance that he might not be. Regardless, whether he was from the same world or not, her main concern at this moment was simply making sure he was alright. It stinks being alone in a place like this.

As it just so happened, one Joanna Baltas, healer and zombie-slayer extraordinaire, was visiting the sandy oasis while on a mission of sorts. She been asked by some locals to help gather some desert fruits. With some careful casting of NulBlaze, she was able to avoid being affected by the desert heat too badly, and had little trouble finishing the request. With that out of the way, she had some free time to kill, and decided to enjoy whatever the oasis paradise had to offer. Honestly, she was quite amazed that such a lively and energetic place could exist in the otherwise harsh and inhospitable desert, so being here was quite a treat. Either way, she was enjoying herself quite a bit, up until she heard a commotion.
What she saw was an old woman, clearly not in the best of moods and seemingly in a hurry to leave the oasis. But would such an old woman be alright in the harsh desert by herself? Then again, she had to have gotten here somehow, so maybe there was more to her than meets the eye. More than that, however, there was something about this woman that seemed bizarrely familiar. She was pretty sure she reminded her of someone back in her own world. But this being Zephon, her actual memories of the person she was sure this woman reminded her of were a bit on the fuzzy side. If nothing else, she was pretty sure she'd never met this woman before. Her memories weren't that full of holes.
Whatever the case, the woman was looking rather agitated, and Joanna was beginning to get a gut feeling that there was more going on here than meets the eye. Seeing her snap at a seemingly well-intentioned map seller, she decided to step in before the situation was escalated any further.
"Pardon me, ma'am, but if you're simply looking to get your bearings straight, you're more than welcome to use my map."

As it would quickly turn out, Quistis wasn't the only blonde girl caught in the sudden downpour, as Joanna also found herself scrambling for shelter from the rain and completely drenched for her troubles. She had been picking mushrooms and berries in the woods as a request from someone who was unable to do so. Not exactly the most exciting of quests, but she liked to help others out where can can, and it wasn't like she had anything else planned. In spite of her reassuring them that they didn't need to pay her for something so simple, they still insisted on it. And, at the end of the day, she couldn't complain about a few extra coins.
That said, she hadn't expected such a sudden rain to break out, and was rather ill-prepared for it. Usually, she had a water-repellent cloak prepared for such weather, but it was rather heavy, so she only took it with her if it looked like it was going to rain; and even that's assuming she doesn't just say inside. Either way, she hadn't expected any rain today, and she was already regretting the fact that she's always wearing a mostly white robe. They weren't completely see-through, so her modesty wasn't in too much danger but still translucent that a hint of her skin's tone could be seen in the white parts, even with how pale she tends to be.
While the fabric was magically treated to protect it from watery damage that silk is prone to, it didn't make the whole "white fabric getting wet" issue any less annoying or embarrassing to deal with. Good thing there wasn't anyone around to see her like this, right? At least, that's the thought that crossed her mind, just in time to be proven very wrong when she realized she wasn't the only one hiding under a large tree. Letting out a startled yelp, she quickly jumps back, only to let out a heavy sigh after getting a good look at Quistis. She was...rather beautiful, prompting a brief blush on the girl's cheeks before she tried push aside such thoughts and speak.
"S-sorry! I-I wasn't expecting anyone else to be here, so I was caught a bit off guard..."

"Ugh...does this guy ever shut up? It's like he's physically and morally incapable of giving not long-winded and pretentious speeches that hardly make any sense..."
Even if he had heard her muttering to herself, she doubted Garland would oblige her with an answer that didn't involve him trying to murder her with his over-sized sword. Thus, when he suddenly came rushing after her, she braced herself with the worst; only to be shocked when he suddenly stopped when another persona appeared, and an all-too-familiar voice echoed from the trees nearby, declaring that Joanna was, indeed, not alone. It took a moment for Joanna's memories of the elven woman to catch up with her as she gazed upon her form, but once they did, the young blonde could barely contain her surprise and excitement. "Laurelin?!" It really was her, right? She wasn't just imagining things due to how desperate the situation was.
Sure enough, she continued to speak, and one memory came flooding back after the other. Without missing a beat, Joanna smirked as she responded in kind to Laurelin's comment "Sorry about that. Had I known you were in the area, I would have happily invited you to this...wonderful occasion." She struggled to get that last part out, even while her words dripped with sarcasm. Truth be told, she was rather frustrated that their reunion couldn't have happened with more fortunate timing. As in not quite literally staring death in the face. But with the two of them, they might actually have a chance. Not necessarily at winning, but of at least getting out of this alive. Probably not unscathed, but at least alive.
At the very least, her chances were a lot better than when she was on her own.
She watched incredulously as Garland proceeded to ham it up by shouting at the heavens, which made her wonder if the man wasn't just legitimately crazy. Not that it would have made him any less dangerous, but it'd at least explain a few things. Regardless, she saw his sudden attack coming from a while away, and was able to just barely escape from it by jumping back. The the shock wave caused by the impact of the blade was almost enough to knock her off her feet, but she held strong, managing to avoid any actual damage. After that, she decided to take this seriously; rather than change in like a madwoman with her hammer, she put it away and instead unsheathed her staff.
Focusing her magic into the staff, she called out "Invisra!". A magical energy enveloped both herself and Laurelin, their bodies becoming transparent as they turned mostly (but not completely) invisible. Still, it was enough that Garland would have a hard time landing any solid hits on them so long as the two of them kept moving; hopefully, it'll keep them alive long enough for them to figure out a strategy for dealing with this situation they've landed themselves in. Or they could just swallow their pride and run away. "Those who run away will live to fight another day" and all that. Whatever they would decide to do, however, they'd need to decide quickly.

Joanna couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at his comment regarding "the Light Warriors following him to this Realm". Did that mean he only just arrived on Zephon? It would certainly make sense, since she was pretty sure she would have heard about him being here if he had come any sooner. Garland wasn't exactly one for subtlety, especially with that armor he's always wearing. Honestly, she couldn't help but wonder if he was still even human under that armor. Of course, as he continued to speak, her biggest fears were confirmed; not only did he somehow survive their battle, but he remembered her well enough to even call out her name. Definitely not good, to say the least.
The words that came out of his mouth hit rather close to home. She didn't want to admit it, but it was something that, in the back of her mind, she'd always feared. When she first arrived, the only one of her allies that she had a clear memory of was the Warrior of Light; or "Wolly", as she liked to affectionately call him. It was ironic, since, of the three, he was by far the biggest mystery back when they were traveling together. As for the other two, her recollection of them were in a constant state of flux. Details and memories were constantly fading in and out of her mind, and just when she thought she remembered something about one or both of them, that memory was gone within a day.
She was...fairly certain that one of them might be an elf. Maybe...probably. Of course, that wasn't the issue. She'd met Wolly, and all was good where he was concerned. But were the other two even here in Zephon? And if they were, would they even recognize her? Or, for that matter, would she recognize them? Worse yet, if they they did remember her, were they actually looking for her? Has she been abandoned, just like Garland said? The questions and unsettling feels began to overwhelm Joanna for just a moment, but she managed to regain her composure just in time to respond to Garland. "As if...I may be alone for now...but I know in my heart that I've not been abandoned. We've been through too much together!"
At least, that was what she truly and deeply wanted to believe. At the very least, she knew she had Wolly. The other two would probably come sooner or later. Probably. Either way, she had far more pressing matters to worry about. Like how Garland was clearly trying to taunt her into a fight. She let out a heavy sigh as she brandished her hammer, speaking in a frank tone. "If I'm being honest, I'd be shocked if you even allowed me to flee. I don't know how you're still alive, but I've no doubt you're hungry for revenge..." She paused for a moment, as white energy surged through her body, and she spoke a single word.
"Protect!"
A magical barrier formed around her; one that would at least partially soften any blows Garland might deal to her. Frankly, she wasn't sure how effective it would be, but she was going to need every advantage she could get if she were going to come out of this mess alive. She didn't dare try to attack first, though. She could be a bit hot-blooded at times, but even she knew that doing so would be a terrible idea. Not that being on the defensive would be much better, but it's still the least horrible choice between the two.
