If Joanna was physically and morally capable of swearing, she'd be doing enough of it to make even the most hardened of sailors blush right now, because it became immediately apparent that any semblance of luck had completely abandoned her the moment that she saw the armored man. In all of the time she spent searching for any clues to the whereabouts of her friends and allies, it never once occurred to her that any of her enemies could also find themselves in this strange world, and she wanted to slap herself for her lack of foresight. And as if running into Garland wasn't bad enough, she had the misfortune of running into him alone.
He was the most powerful knight in Corneria, a title which he proved to have more than earned when she and her allies confronted him at the temple. While they ultimately came out on top in the end, he certainly didn't make it easy. Even when it was four-against-one, he was terrifyingly powerful, and Jo personally couldn't help but feel like they got a bit lucky. Of course, this begged all sorts of questions. At what point in time was he pulled in? Was it before they defeated him? Or did he somehow survive and get pulled in after? And if it was the latter, would he remember her? After all, her memories were still rather fuzzy, so it might be the same for him as well.
It's even possible he might have come here from a time before he turned against Corneria. Though, that was probably wishful thinking. Either way, she wasn't planning to stick around long enough to find out. While it would be nice if it wasn't the case, the fact remained that, if he's still an enemy, then she's nowhere near strong enough to handle him on her own. She may have a more powerful White Magic than she did when she first battled him, but all that was going to do was keep herself alive longer; she had nothing that would be capable of actually harming him. It was moments like this where she sorely missed her White Wizard upgrade. Holy would really be handy right about now.
Either way, while his back was turned, she made a break for it. All she needed to do was slip away without him noticing her. A plan that was foiled by an ill-placed fallen branch. The moment she stepped on it, the branch snapped with a sound so sharp that she might as well have banged two pots and pans together with how much it echoed through the area. And, of course, she was now out in the open. It would have taken a miracle for him to not notice her at this point...and somehow, she had a sinking feeling that the heavens weren't going to be so merciful on this particular day.

Jo was relieved that she, if nothing else, seemed really kind. Lord knows she's met plenty of people seem pleasant on the outside but are actually really nasty on the inside, and she was more anxious than usual, so she'd be lying if she said such a possibility didn't cross her mind in a very brief moment of panic. Thankfully, that didn't seem to be the case. If anything, she couldn't help but notice that Ryne seemed almost as awkward about this whole thing as she herself felt. Which was a small comfort, to say the least. Maybe this wouldn't be too bad after all. However, that was when Ryne's comment finally registered with her, and the poor girl somehow turned even redder than she already was.
She wasn't used to being complimented in such a manner, so it caught her completely off guard. "A-an Angel? M-me? No no no you're way prettier than I am! I-if anyone here is an angel, it's you!" Given the flustered stage she was already in, it didn't take long for Jo's own words to register, allowing her to achieve an even greater state of awkwardness. Even though she blurted it out without thinking, she couldn't help but worry if saying such a thing was too forward. Especially with someone she'd only just met. Or was something like this normal for a date? The realization that she was even more out of her element than she realized was hitting her like a ton of bricks. But she couldn't say she wasn't enjoying herself somewhat.
In spite of their apparently mutual awkwardness, neither of them seemed to be dying from embarrassment, so at least there was that. When asked about what food she likes, Jo paused to think on it for a bit. "Hm...well, fresh fruit is pretty great...also anything with a lot of cheese or pasta...or both. As long as it's not spicy...I don't handle 'spicy' very well...what about you?" Finally, when Ryne offered to treat her to something to eat, she gave a surprised blink "Oh...okay. Thanks..." Feeling too flustered to say anything else, she quickly started scanning a menu. She was enjoying herself, but she wasn't feeling any less anxious.

"W-wait...a blind date? W-what do you mean a blind date?!"
Jo looks to the staff member incredulously as they point out the questionnaire that she had signed; it was then and only then that the girl realized its actual purpose. "W-wait...I thought that was for some kind of raffle or something! No one said anything about a blind date!" The staff member shrugged as if to say that wasn't their problem, and nudged the poor girl along to the table she was supposed to go to. Poor Jo could barely wrap her mind around going out on a date with someone she already knows; nevermind going out with someone she's never actually met before until now. What if they were mean or unattractive? Would she really have to spend time with them even if they're unpleasant?
Of course, in this instance, Joanna ended up having the opposite problem. Upon arriving at her table, she looked toward who her "date" was, and couldn't help but blush brightly. She was so pretty. Almost too pretty. Almost immediately, she couldn't help but notice the similarities between herself and Ryne; particularly, the long blonde hair and blue eyes, as well as them dressing in predominantly white, though it seemed Ryne's outfit lacked the blue and gold accents that Jo's had. Still, she couldn't help but find that Ryne was much pretty. She didn't have enough confidence in her looks to consider herself especially attractive or pretty. Cute? Maybe. Tomboyish? Definitely. But "pretty" felt a bit beyond her.
Neveetheless, she steeled her nerves and, after confirming once again that this was who she was supposed to be with, took a seat across from Ryne. Already, she was feeling rather awkward, still trying to wrap her mind around the fact that this was supposed to be a date. And while she was hardly displeased with who she ended up with, she couldn't help but feel like she was out of her depth a bit. Already, she was a bit of a nervous mess, trying (and failing) to come up with something to say. Something to break the ice. Eventually, she managed to at least get out something of an introduction. "Um...h-hello. M-my name is Joanna...though, everyone just calls me Jo...a-anyway.." and just like that, she was back to having no clue what to say.

This was...actually kinda funny. For so long, she had this mental image of Faris; suave, cool, cunning and handsome. And all of it was coming crashing down with what she was currently witnessing. And yet, at the same time, it was almost refreshing to see such a much more fallible and overall human side to him. Also, he was still incredibly handsome; that didn't seem to be changing anytime soon. Try as she might to put it into the back of her mind, the girl was, much to her own confusion and frustration, still crushing on Faris quite a bit. She wasn't even sure why. But every time she thought about him or on the rare occasion she heard someone bring him up, she got a bit flustered.
Maybe he just left that large of an impression on her. Either way, he was about to leave even more of an impression on her, as he proceeded to use his Crystal to transform into a Dragoon and try to leap out of the ravine he was stuck in, only for his ankle to buckle at the last second and send him crashing into the side of his watery prison. She couldn't help but flinch as she watched, though he at least appeared to be okay. For the most part anyway. That ankle was looking pretty bad. Luckily, for him, she knew just what to do to help him out, even in spite of his stubborn insistence that he was fine and that it was "only a sprain". That was no good though; a sprain was still bad. Especially in a place like this.
He might be stubborn, but she could be just as stubborn; if not more so.
Materializing her hammer, she points it toward Faris, using it to focus her magic toward him specifically, then calls out a simple command. "Curaga!" Soon, a surge of healing energy would surround him, healing any of the scratches and bruises from his fall, but, more importantly, healing his sprained ankle. At least enough to allow him to stand on it and potentially jump out of the ravine this time. After that, she gave him a smile. "Consider it thanks for the help and advice you gave me when we first met. And to answer your question, I was out here gathering herbs and mushrooms at someone's request. It seemed like a simple enough job, and they were offering a somewhat generous reward, so I figured 'why not?'."

In the months since she arrived here, one Joanna Baltas had managed to accomplish quite a bit. More than she was initially expecting, if she was being perfectly honest. She'd managed to make a name for herself as something of a "traveling healer/undead slayer", she'd succeeded in her goal of reuniting with at least one of her allies from her own world, and she even got a chance to meet the ridiculously handsome pirate who she stumbled upon when she first arrived again and repay them for the kindness and advice they had shown her. All in all, Joanna was feeling pretty good, but there was one thing that was always in the back of her mind. And now that she'd succeeded in several of her short-term goals, she decided to finally act upon it.
Not long after her arrival, she met a man named Caius who was, to say the least, very interesting. He seemed like a nice guy, though, and she enjoyed the brief time they spent together. More than that, though, he was apparently the leader of a guild of sorts. From what she remembered, they mostly went around helping people; slaying monsters who drew too close to the cities or going after criminals. She had to admit, that sounded like a really interesting life, and the only reason she didn't try to join way back then was because she had so much on her plate already and wanted to get her bearings straight. Now that she'd done that and more, she figured that something like Caius' guild would be great.
She knew they were based in Torensten, so that was where she headed next. After a bit of asking around, she finally found the building that they apparently used as a headquarters of sorts. Letting out a sigh to steel her nerves, she quietly opens the door and steps inside, looking around a bit. When she doesn't immediately notice anyone inside, she decides to try calling out to see if someone was around "Um...please pardon me if it's rude to barge in like this...my name is Joanna Baltas, and I'm looking for Caius..." It occurred to her that she didn't actually know what his last name was as she struggled to "remember" it. Oh well. Hopefully, there'd be plenty of time for that later. Provided he was even here.

Joanna smiled at the answer; even if it was mostly a joke, she understood the comparison all too well. Even she had her 'moody teen' phase when growing up, but she quickly grew out of it, much to the relief of the priests and priestesses who raised her. She has, as she got a bit older, got to deal with plenty of younger kids also going through that phase, so she understood the pain of adults having to suffer through them as well, even if all she really did was watch from the side. It wasn't as though she was ever expected to personally deal with them herself. Still, she could only imagine what it must be like going through all of that with a dragon of all things.
Then, as he went on to explain what his guild was, she blinked. The more he went on to explain, the more interesting it sounded. Honestly, it didn't seem too far off what what she did while she was adventuring with Wolly and the others back in her own home world. Perhaps that was why it seemed so tempting to ask if there was any room for someone like her to join. She did recall him saying that a girl he worked with (which she could only assume meant was part of his guild) was also a healer, but hey. It's not like having more than one healer could be a bad thing, right? Twice the healing for twice the monster busting. Win-win. That said, she decided against it. For now, at least.
For the time being, she wanted to try and strike out on her own for a bit. Maybe it was a bit of stubborn pride taking hold, but her conversation with Faris got her thinking. If this world was anywhere half as cruel and forgiving as he made it sound, then she wanted to try and fend for herself for a change, instead of relying on others. It wasn't that she was some brooding loner who felt that relying on allies was a sign of weakness. More than anything, she just wanted to be able to rely on herself, especially if she should actually end up teaming up with some allies but somehow got separated from them at any point. She didn't want to just be some waif who was only good at healing.
Of course, as he went on to describe some of his allies, the temptation grew that much stronger; but she decided to stick with her guns. For now at least. "They sound like quite a fun bunch. Hopefully, I'll get to meet them some day...though, for the time being, I think I wanna get a feel for this place on my own...learn to be a bit more independent, I suppose...at least, starting from when we arrive in town, anyway...I've had enough of this forest to last a lifetime, frankly. Even if they ultimately didn't prove much of an actual threat, that encounter with those idiot bandits was...let's say "emotionally draining"..."

As it would turn out, Joanna was also in the woods, though on a much simpler and easier-to-complete mission of gathering some herbs and mushrooms that grew there. She knew enough about what she was gathering to know that none of what she was picking up was poisonous, so, even though her client didn't specify why they needed them, she didn't feel any needs to question it. Probably either for cooking or alchemic purposes. Or maybe a little of both. Whatever the reason, she saw no need to deny the request, so here she was. So far, it was going well. She was close to being finished with gathering everything on the list given to her, when she heard a sudden commotion.
Her curiosity getting the better of her, she moved toward what seemed to be the source of the noise, and was in for quite the pleasant surprise. It took her a moment to recognize him, but it was definitely Faris. Although she'd been on Zephon for a good four or five months, their encounter back when she first arrived was still fresh on her mind. Faris was the first person she met, and though he would hardly be the last, she still held out the hope that they would cross paths again some day. Especially now that she had finally achieved her goal of finding the so-called Warrior of Light that she had been traveling with before her untimely arrival to this strange world.
Though, he kinda looked like he'd seen better days. She couldn't quite hear what he was saying, but it sounded like he was in a foul mood. And yet, despite this, she couldn't help herself. When it appeared he was finished with his outburst, she would sheepishly approach him, a slightly awkward smile "...hey...um...long time no see? You...doing alright? Maybe I can help..."

"Ah...geez..."
She muttered quietly to herself. It was only after the fact that it registered that the person she'd bumped into had been wearing some rather sturdy armor, and with that delayed reaction came the pain one would expect from almost literally walking face first into a a slab of metal. Her head turned to the side just enough for her cheek to soften the blow, even if only slightly. Of course, she'd taken worse hits than this from monsters who were actually attacking her, so, ultimately, it didn't hurt all that much. Still a rather nasty shock though. Besides, what kind of idiot just stands around the middle of the street in armor. Perhaps she should give this jerk a piece of he-
“Joanna …?”
That single word echoed through her mind so loudly that it was almost deafening. How did he know her name? Not to mention his voice sounded extremely familiar. It was in that moment that she finally got a good look at the person she'd bumped into; just like the Warrior himself, she was hoping this wasn't her mind playing tricks on her. After all this time of barely finding any clues, it almost seemed too good to be true to just quite literally bump into him in the middle of the city. Especially once she'd visited on and off quite often. And yet, there he he was, standing right in front of her. She was already fighting back the tears of joy. "Wolly?...is it...really you?..."
Unable to hold back any longer, she immediately dives in and hugs him tightly. She also smacked herself against his armor again in the process. Did it hurt? Yes. In fact, the impact may or may not have broken her skin, causing a tiny bit of blood to trickle down the side of her face. But was it worth it? Hell yes. She couldn't even think of anything to say. She was just happy to see a familiar face again, after all of this time. She had so many questions for him, and no clue where to start. All she knew for sure was she was letting him out of her sight for a good while "...I can't believe it's really you...after so long...I was starting to lose hope..."
