"Get ready , ZEPHRON, for YUFFIE!"
The Great Ninja Yuffie!
Okay, so Yuffie had come to the conclusion that she was not, as previously expected, trapped in the past. This was some kind of other world. And if she was going to survive here, she needed a home and a job. Stealing would only get her so far. Well, that was a lie. She could totally get by on stealing. But stealing WITHOUT the purpose of returning to free Wutai kinda... well, it felt a bit wrong. And Yuffie didn't like that feeling. She wanted to be a hero again!
And that was when she had heard about the Dragonblades!
Apparently they had defeated a Kraken and had a dragon and were heroes and none of that mattered because they were called Dragonblades. 'Yuffie Kisaragi; the Single White Rose of Wutai, the Blade of the Dragon...' It sounded awesome! So she just knew she had to sign up. So, after a bit of hunting, she found their HQ. Now, just to make the right impression...
Okay. She'd practiced. She'd rehearsed. She was ready.
She ran forward, and threw open the doors, letting go of two handfuls of white rose petals she'd liberated from a big dress lady's garden (not to be confused with THE Big Dress Lady she knew). She let them flutter down for a moment around her, before she struck a pose, one hand in the air, one hand on her hips. "Never fear, Dragonblades! For your new, greatest hero has arrived!" she proclaimed. "Yep! That's right! It's me! No doubt you've heard of me, but just in case you haven't... I'm the one who saved my entire world from Sephiroth! Who helped stop the meteor! I'm the World's Greatest Materia hunter, an elite top secret operative for the Wutai government and a beguiling ninja, all rolled into one! I'm known by many names.... The Single White Rose of Wutai! The Champion of the Earth and Sky! The Scourge of Shinra! The Conqueror of the Pagoda! And now, soon, The Greatest Dragonblade Who Ever Lived! That's right! It's me! The great ninja....... YUFFIE KISARAGI!"
She threw her hands into the air again, and wish she'd saved some of the flowers for after her big introduced. "So, where'd I sign up? I know you can't WAIT to have a badass like me on the team!" she said cheerfully, running over to the desk and stopping only to throw some quick air punches to show off her skill.

The Dragonblades
And it seemed like it was going to be such an easy morning too.
Caius had started to get the hang of sticking around Torensten, training the intern, working jobs in the vicinity here and there. Training recruits, answering concerns, and just being around the Rest all the time. It made for a nice change of pace, he supposed, even if there was a lot of paperwork. Seriously, how much paperwork did Celes do in a day by herself? But hopefully before too long, the intern would be trained up properly for that, and maybe they could hire another to cover more ground. And then Caius could head off to Sonora. As much as he hated it there, he had business to take care of. But today was not Sonora day. Today was a nice, casual day. He had gotten up nice and early, gotten in his regular training. Tended to Vordun, then made the trek over to the Rest. He had been working on training the recruits when part of his beard had been sliced off during a sparring match. Which made for some laughter between the recruits, but it was a sound reminder that Caius should probably trim it. It had been some time since he had, and he was getting a bit shaggy. Luckily, Torensten’s magic crystals covered many needs. From operating machinery, to allowing for showers, to even being able to concentrate a harmless Fire spell into only shaving the hairs off one’s chinny chin chins. Caius was still a little clumsy with the crystal, but he had at least gotten the hang of it. So all was going well, until…
“NEVER FEAR, DRAGONBLADES! FOR YOUR NEW, GREATEST HERO HAS ARRIVED!”
The door flew open and someone shouted at the top of her lungs, going on about all kinds of things that didn’t sound like things. While the intern at the desk Tomoe, as well as several morning-bird mercenaries, looked at her like she had grown a second head. Caius meanwhile had been distracted by the boom. Paranoia and all that. So when he looked to the mirror after Yuffie had begun her spiel, his eyes widened.
“Oh, you have gotta be-”
Well, there wasn’t much that could be done about it. Except…
Caius walked down the steps to meet this loud newcomer. But as the other mercenaries parted to receive him, Tomoe’s eyes widened at the sight of a man who suddenly looked a lot younger.
“Um, Mr. Caius, sir?”
The intern couldn’t contain a fit of giggles.
“I honestly thought you were older.”
“Thank you for the compliment, Tomoe.”
While clearly very annoyed, he remained calm with Tomoe, and calm still as he looked to Yuffie. Even if his calm was a bit chillier than the usual.
“As far as I knew, ninjas didn’t announce their presence. Or tell everyone they’re ninjas. Kind of hurts the stealth angle, doesn’t it?”

"Get ready , ZEPHRON, for YUFFIE!"
The Great Ninja Yuffie!
Who was this baby faced guy and why was he being rude about NINJAS? It took Yuffie a moment or two to realise he seemed to be acting like he was in charge. FOR NOW. Yuffie would, naturally, be the leader of the Dragonblades soon, she figured, but she supposed she'd let Long Hair McBabyFace think he ran the show for a minute.
She rolled her eyes with a sigh, like he had said something a child might say.
"That's actually a really common misconception," Yuffie said, waggling a finger. "Being a ninja isn't about not being seen, it's about blending into your environment and not being noticed as unusual to those around you. Totally different. And since you guys are, like, the larger than life heroes that saved the city from a big octopus or something, me acting like this - totally natural!" Of course, the fact she acted like that ANYWAY was beside the point. "Plus, you can't really contain this much awesome!" she added, throwing several mock punches again.
"Anyway, being a ninja is just PART of my skillset. Didn't you hear all that other stuff?" she added quickly. He had not fallen to his knees to worship her nor immediately offered her membership, which meant this wasn't going as planned. Then again, that usually happened to Yuffie. Apparently no matter how many titles she made up for herself, people were STILL not impressed. She had fun with it though, and having fun, well, that was the important thing.
"And it's true. I AM a super skilled ninja. AND I helped save the world. So whaddy'a say?" she asked, hands on her hips.

The Dragonblades
“Uh huh.”
Somehow he doubted her explanation. Mu hadn’t seemed all that keen on being seen in public, and he wasn’t as loud or abrasive as this child either. She at least looked old enough to fight, which was sad in retrospect, but by how she acted it was easy to wonder if perhaps she was just a lost child that her parents were looking for. He hadn’t heard anything about ninjas of her kind, though he supposed that was the point, and Mu was the only ninja he knew. So odds were that since Mu was an offworlder, she probably was too. Poor kid.
She had said Sephiroth earlier, right? Sephiroth, that dude with the big sword who Cloud had rambled on about after the two of them and Angeal had levelled Provo’s town square? Cloud had mentioned during his enraged rambling something about him trying to destroy their world, though while a bit creepy, the silver-haired man hadn’t seemed like the psychotic, raging world destroyer type. Perhaps this one was one of Cloud’s companions? One of the people he had mentioned looking for when they had met back in Sonora, maybe. Though he had seemed more concerned about the kickboxing girl and the guy with the gun-arm than anyone else, as they were the only ones he had actually described.
Right, she had said she wanted to join the Dragonblades, right?
“Alright. We’ll talk. Let’s take a walk.”
Provided she followed along, he would lead her out to the courtyard. Outside, warriors of different shapes and sizes were sparring against one another. “Fynal, you’re leaving yourself open!” he called out to one of the recruits. The recruit would look to him, and their jaw promptly dropped.
“Caius sir, is that you? You look…”
Caius sighed in annoyance as he shook his head. “Decided to try something new. Now, what did I just say?”
“Oh, right! Sorry sir!”
“Apologies won’t keep you alive. Don’t turn your back on an opponent and don’t drop your guard until the battle is won.”
“Yes sir!”
Caius scratched at where his lightly coated beard used to be. It hadn’t ever been the thickest thing in the world, but apparently he looked like a completely different person without it. His face felt colder too. Did he really look that different? Either way, it was time to address the loud elephant in the room.
“Yuffie, was it? You see these young men and women working hard everyday, knowing that our line of work is fraught with peril. We’ve earned a reputation as elite monster slayers, and peacekeepers alike. Which isn’t me bragging, believe it or not. What this means is that the expectation for us when we take work is high. Since the Kraken, many have come to our doors as you have, and many have left when either the training, or the work, turned out to be too difficult. Others just found our code of ethics and little side-habits of jumping into the fray even when there isn’t guaranteed profit to be had, to not be worth the trouble. Ironic, since that’s exactly what led us to the Kraken to begin with. My point? This isn’t something I advise if you are merely seeking personal glory. But for those that find passion in helping others, you may well find yourself at home here. We train hard, we work hard, we fight honorably, and we fight as a brotherhood, a sort of family you could say. We look out for one another, and for those that cannot look out for themselves. It’s not the easiest life, not usually the longest one either. But for the right people, it’s a very fulfilling one.”
Caius stopped, and looked to the teenage ninja before him.

"Get ready , ZEPHRON, for YUFFIE!"
The Great Ninja Yuffie!
Yuffie followed him out to the courtyard where a bunch of the Dragonblades were, apparently, training. He started lecturing one on not keeping their guard up and Yuffie just rolled her eyes. Gawd, he reminded her of her Dad or instructors back home. She hadn't come here to be trained. She already knew how to kick butt. She'd come here to be a hero. Still, maybe he needed her to help teach this lot now. That made sense. After all, she was the Champion of the Pagoda. She'd beaten everybody else back home. "I'd thrown a shuriken at their butt while she wasn't looking. That'd learn 'em," Yuffie input her teaching technique helpfully. Well, it would be, if she ever got asked how to teach.
"Okay, firstly, I'm from WUTAI. Alright. And I get you probably haven't heard of Wutai 'cause, like, we're on another planet or something weird - seriously, I still don't know the deal with that - but the thing about Wutai is, us ninjas? We train, like, all our lives! I could not train ever again and STILL kick the butts of all your guys out there, so don't worry about me! I'm not afraid of a little hard work!" Of course, Yuffie also had plenty of techniques for AVOIDING training since she usually hated it, but she decided not to say that here.
"Anyway, as for why I wanna join, it's not for personal glory. Did you not HEAR who I am? I am like, already pretty glorificus. I am fully gloried up. Any more personal glory and they'd be like, whoa, that Yuffie girl, she's so amazing, and like, start a religion about me or something," Yuffie boasted, although of course 'personal glory' had been one of her motivating factors. Even if she didn't want to say it.
"You wanna know why I wanna join? 'cause my whole life I spent fighting to save Wutai. To get rid of Shinra an' to make Wutai what it used to be. Except, here, there is no Wutai. And even if I go back home, Shinra's done for. I won! And now I'm like, what am I meant to do now? I always had a reason for everything I did. All the fighting, all the schemes, all my ideas, it was to help Wutai. I mean, if you're not fighting FOR something, if there isn't a reason why you do all the stuff you do, you're not a hero at all. You're just some butthole," Yuffie explained her in-depth, clearly well thought out philosophy. "So I'm lookin' for a cause worth fighting for, and I was like, hey, you guys beat up monsters and are heroes. So, I figured, we'd be a natural fit. So, where'd I sign up?" she grinned, feeling that this sales pitch should be more than enough.

The Dragonblades
It figures that when a potentially problematic recruit shows up, Celes isn’t here to handle them in her very matter of fact style. Or well, problematic compared to the usual he’d dealt with, anyway. Considering how some of them had tried to treat her in the training yard though… She probably had seen more than her fair share of problematic. Possibly worse than this. Honestly, that woman was probably owed a bouquet of flowers and a fruit basket at this point.
“Exactly, if you let your guard down, you might catch a shuriken in the butt” he told the recruit, deciding to humor Yuffie and also to provide an example. While the recruit looked a bit confused, they certainly didn’t take their eye off the birdie after that. That sounded painful.
So with that, he listened as Yuffie elaborated on her origins. He definitely hadn’t heard of Wutai, and it seemed she had figured out that they were on another world, apparently. “Neither does anyone else. But it seems to be a world, or dimension, whatever you want to call it. It definitely doesn’t exist in the same plane as either of our worlds, I’ve at least figured out. The reasons how I know are… Complicated.”
He doubted Yuffie would understand much about it anyway. She only needed the basics pertaining to the world state, probably. Though he chuckled slightly when she claimed she could go the rest of her life without training and still succeed. “You could stop training. But even enemies stronger than you don’t stop. And then they’ll leave you in the dust” he responded with a light smile, seeming to catch on a bit to what style of phrase would best work for Yuffie. She was prideful, woefully so. The idea of being left behind might serve as a motivator. “I don’t stop training either. Why stop when you can always get even better? Why settle for less?”
Someone who didn’t feel the need to train usually was afraid of a bit of hard work too. But telling her that wasn’t going to do for someone of her temperament, he would bet. But between the continued boasting, there was something genuine deep inside after all. A sense of purpose. That’s why she was here. Probably a bit for glory too, but after finishing her business and ending up here, she had no purpose. Nothing to do with the only thing she knew how to do.
Well, that certainly sounded familiar.
She was still quite confident they would let her in, though. This arrogance would get her killed eventually, but perhaps they could hammer that out in time. He mulled it over a moment. “Normally I would be against allowing children into our ranks, but I got an earful for that once already. I do need to see if you’re as capable as you say, though. We usually do two tests of a candidate’s worth. The first is a basic combat test. This allows us to ascertain your physical capabilities and if you’re actually going to survive on the field. The second involves taking on a job with one of our senior members to see if you exhibit the qualities we’re looking for. If you are ready, then I will serve as your combat tester.”
And he knew exactly what he had in mind for this first test.

"Get ready , ZEPHRON, for YUFFIE!"
The Great Ninja Yuffie!
Yuffie shot the trainee a grin when Caius threatened a shuriken to the butt. It looked like her training techniques were working! Obviously! Which wasn't bad for something she'd made up on the spot. Clearly she could do this whole teacher thing after all! Which made sense, right? After all, she'd conquered the Pagoda so she WAS the best ninja in Wutai. It made sense she'd have to start giving ninja lessons soon! Maybe she should start with Mikoto. Teach her some badass ninja techniques!
"Uh huh. So, whatever's going on is super weird, and we can't do anything about it. Kinda sucky," Yuffie replied, but as far as she knew, there was nothing they could do. Which was why she was there. It was time to give up on thoughts about getting home, at least for now, and find her place in this new world. So; Dragonblades. Being a hero! It made perfect sense to her. At least, until whatever was going on here ended and she got out of there.
"Uh, I didn't say I wasn't gonna train, jus' that I didn't hafta," Yuffie countered, when he told her about training. "I can train. I can train super hard, and then kick all your butts even more than I can already!" She explained, throwing a few more mock punches as she jumped around for a moment, 'training' in her head, obviously. Because she'd be darned if he was gonna think he was better than her for training! Besides, she could find easy ways to skip training later on if it got boring. She was a pro at wriggling out of actually having to do stuff she didn't want to.
"Hey! Who you callin' 'children'? I'm not some dumb kid! I'm Yuffie Kisaragi! I'm the champion of the Pagoda of Wutai! I helped beat Sephiroth and Jenova and saved the entire world. I'm not a kid!" she insisted angrily, annoyed at being spoken down to. He reminded her of Sonon, the way he treated her like a kid. Cloud, at least, had never done that. He'd treated her like an annoyance, yes, but he'd never made her feel too young to be adventuring with them. "Wait? Combat test? You mean, we're gonna throw down? Ohhhhh boy! You're in trouble now, mister!" Yuffie grinned, throwing a few more air punches and dancing to adjust her stance. "So, do I jus' kick your butt here, or do we go somewhere special for it?" she beamed, ready for the fight. This was going to be GREAT! She'd beat up their leader right in front of them. They might just make her the boss of the Dragonblades right away after this!

The Dragonblades
“We can make the most of our time here. That’s what we can do” he told her, though her being here suggested she likely at least knew that much. She had some level of maturity for her age, despite the boisterous attitude and ego depicting the opposite. Her story, the truthful bits anyway, told him that much.
He shrugged when she said she definitely still trained. The seed was planted in her ego. That was the best he could do for her for the time being. Insomnia wasn’t built in a day. Though said ego predictably created her next response. “No need to defend it verbally. The test should give you a chance to tell me everything about your combat capabilities. I trust that sounds fair?” he inquired calmly in response. While he was hesitant to induct someone of her age, Celes had convinced him to always at least give them a chance to prove that they weren’t putting themselves in unnecessary danger that they couldn’t handle. That, he could do.
“About that, by the way. Does the name Cloud ring a bell?” he decided to ask as he looked around and whistled loudly. The sparring matches stopped as the recruits gathered around.
“Miss Kisaragi and I will be having a short sparring match. This is a potential learning opportunity, so I want you to watch and see if you can pick up anything from it.”

"Get ready , ZEPHRON, for YUFFIE!"
The Great Ninja Yuffie!
Make the most of their time here? Yuffie supposed that was true. At first she had been happy to wallow in chaos and have some fun with no consequences, but now it looked like she wasn't going to be able to go home, she instead decided that it'd be better to live her life here properly. At least, until she found out what was really going on.
"Only person it's not fair on is you 'cause you're about to get your butt whupped!" Yuffie said proudly when he asked if the test sounded fair, to show off her skills. She turned around, facing away from him, throwing a few more punches at the air to warm herself up. "Okay, Yuffie, you got this," she said under her breath, just to make sure she was fully hyped. And then she turned around, ready to fight, when-
"Wait, did you say Cloud?" she suddenly asked, her entire train of thought derailed. "Really tall? Has spikey blonde hair? Carries a sword like a surfboard? Thinks it's normal to use the word 'mosey'?" she asked, vaguely waving her arms around as she described him. Cloud was here too? "Of course I know him! He's the lead- I mean, uh, he was in my team of adventurers! When I saved the world, he was, y'know, just an ordinary member or whatever. I was obviously in charge. Did you talk to him? 'cause he probably didn't say that. He probably said he was in charge, but, uh, y'know, you can't trust a word that guy says. D'yknow he told us all he was an elite SOLDIER for like, AGES, before we found out he was lying...." Yuffie said quickly, a sheepish laugh as she tried to back up her new narrative about being the leader of their team. "Is he here? I've been searchin' for anybody from home, but so far, the only one I've found is Sephiroth. He was up to no good, but it's okay, one quick talking to from me, and he ran away scared! So, uh, I don't think he'll be any trouble. For a bit," Yuffie's eyes darted off to the side, thoughtful and worried. She was still not happy about Sephiroth being out there, but she didn't want to admit she just let him walk away.
"Oh, okay, we're still fighting? Okay, but afterwards, you gotta tell me where you saw Cloud! I can still kick your butt real quick!" Yuffie said, dropping into her fighting stance and readying her shuriken. "And hey, don't call me 'Miss Kisaragi'. I might not be a kid, but I'm not OLD. 'The Amazing Yuffie' is fine," she teased. "Okay, mister, let's see what you got!"
"Na na na, nanananana, na na na..." She began to sing, as she threw her shuriken in an opening gambit, flipping to the side as she did so to avoid any retaliation.

The Dragonblades
She recognized Cloud, then. He nodded his head when she gave his description. Yep, that was him. Poor sod, if he'd been stuck listening to this all the time. Though this talk regarding him lying about being a soldier of some kind was new. Interestingly so. Perhaps he would ask Cloud about it next time he saw him. Then again, Yuffie had already proven that she had a flair for stretching the truth, to say the least. Who knew if she was even being truthful about it? Questions for later. It seemed she had been searching for him. So it sounded like his instincts were right. And Caius did seem to find himself in the middle of linking up people displaced from their companions on the constant. Maybe he should start a service and charge a premium?
Nah. Not his style.
Still, she too talked about this Sephiroth being trouble. While he doubted she had driven him off alone, he had to wonder just what this Sephiroth's game was. His cryptic words to Caius had preceded his getting into it with Cloud in Provo's square, so it was possible that he was a serious problem. Then again, eyewitnesses had said that Cloud had attacked him first. He supposed he could get this information later, though.
"I can oblige that" he answered with a nod, ignoring her talk about this being unfair to him. His mind went completely to the battle at hand as he began to walk towards the rack to find a training sword. As he did though, Yuffie would start the battle early by throwing a shuriken. At the last moment, Caius would raise a hand and a two-sided blade would materialize in his hand to block it with a flash of brilliant blue light. If not for her being as loud as she was, perhaps he wouldn't have realized. But then again, it was hard for him to mistake the whistle of a weapon flying through the air when he oftentimes used the same style himself.
"Tsk tsk, attacking when I'm unarmed? Not the most honorable of fighters, are you?" he teased with a small, slightly amused smile. "But alright. Guess that starts the battle officially, then."
The blue light would pass over his free hand as he picked up the shuriken, before he promptly tossed it back to Yuffie. Normally he would use training weapons dulled down with magic to keep the recruits from hurting each other. But if Yuffie wasn't going to give him a chance to, he supposed he would just have to modify his own focus instead. Caius pulled apart the duel-sided blade to reveal two daggers, through which he would spin between his fingers as he began to walk towards Yuffie.
But this was a ruse. The moment the shuriken came near Yuffie, Caius would suddenly disappear, re-appearing where the shuriken had been just over Yuffie's head and aiming to bring the flat of one of the blades down on her back.
