Zack had to smile at Yuffie not admitting she made a mistake. That was the way to do it, just move on from it. He almost stopped in his tracks though. "Wait, a big slime monster? I mean, I feel like that might be an upgrade from what he usually looks like." Though the lab coat on the beach wasn't surprising. He had never seen Hojo in anything else, and he was starting to wonder if he slept in it too. "Good! He had that coming to him." His hopes weren't high of the beat down knocking some sense into the man though...
When she mentioned Tifa got hurt by Sephiroth, he had to look at the ground again. That part he knew about. He had seen her after it had happened, and she was not in good shape. It was good to hear that she had healed up and was in great condition now. Zack had to chuckled when she claimed it was her party, not Cloud's. "You know, I can believe that. Cloud was never one to take charge when I knew him, and you seem like you have a pretty good head on your shoulders." Why was he encouraging her?
At the mention of sounding like her dad, he put his hands up in defense. "Alright, I'm sorry." She did answer the question and he gave a nod. "That sounds like a solid plan. It's just nice to know what you're doing, even if it's something small and the rest of the time you're just out having fun. That's what I'm doing. I help out where I'm needed, but I'm a free spirit otherwise. I don't really have any goals here other than finding people I know."

WOULD YOU SAY I BECAME A HERO?
As Yuffie explained more about what Cloud had been through, Zack looked at the ground as they walked. Yeah, that explained it all to be honest. He really didn't want to remember that whole situation, but it wasn't Yuffie's fault it had gotten brought up, she didn't know he had been there with Cloud the whole time he had been experimented on. Zack had been exposed to mako before that all happened, so he didn't get sick like Cloud did.
"Oh, you mean Hojo? Yeah, that guy was all sorts of crazy, so it's something he would do." If she only knew how crazy Hojo was, but he was glad she didn't. She was still young and innocent, and he wanted to keep it that way. At the mention of Tifa, he looked over at her. "The tour guide from Nibelheim? What does she have to do with it?" He did remember he asking about a blonde SOLDIER, so maybe the two were connected somehow?
If he was being honest, it was a little weird to be talking to someone that knew what happened on Gaia after he had left. It was like a weird glimpse into the future he wasn't a part of. Though he expected that he would hear a lot about it since everyone he had known carried on after he had left, except Genesis and Angeal, but that was another situation. A very different situation.
When Yuffie exclaimed she wasn't a jukebox, he threw his hands up. "Alright, no more songs. We'll talk about something, like, do you have any plans here? Figured out what you want to do?" It was like having another chance to do something with their lives, to do it a little differently. Though the way she talked about herself, he was guessing that she wasn't going to change a whole lot, but there was still a chance.
There was a lot of emotions running through Zack at the moment. Regret that he wasn't able to help Cloud get back home back in Midgar. Happy to be able to see and talk to his friend again. Sad that Cloud had ended up here in the first place. Nervous because he wasn't sure about how Cloud felt about everything. Most of all though, he had to admit, was that he was excited to hang out with Cloud again. Of course that one trumped everything.
"Yeah, I've been told things like that before." Though how Cloud said it was a little nicer. Then again, it had probably been Genesis to have a remark like that in the past, so Zack knew not to take it too seriously. "Though I don't look at it like it's a bad thing, so there's that." He figured that Cloud wouldn't think it was, but he wanted to make sure anyways. He was just nervous and excited to see Cloud, so he was just kind of rambling.
Bouncing back and forth slightly on his heels, Zack scratched at the back of his head. He hadn't expected to see Cloud today, so he wasn't sure what say or do in this moment. If he had just arrived, Zack could show him around, maybe even offer his place to stay at if he needed. Roommates! "Did you just get here?" Obviously Zack wasn't going to ask Cloud how he had gotten there, but would listen if he wanted to say it anyways.
Zack could barely remember what it was like to first arrive on Zephon, that had been quite a while ago. He just remembered finding the inn, and helping the old lady out around the place in exchange for a room. Then, he just kind of stayed there anyways, even though he had the money to move. He liked helping out, and why move when this place was just fine the way it was. He would definitely help Cloud in any way that he could.
'Ninety-eight, ninety-nine, one hundred!' Even if he was in a different world, Zack still managed to get his daily amount of squats in before the day began. Today he was going into the main part of the city to get some stuff for the inn. The owner said he didn't have to and that he did enough around the place, but he wanted to pick some stuff up anyways, so it just seemed like the smart thing to just get what she needed while he was there. Sometimes he had good ideas!
As he walked into town, he had his hands behind his head. It was still a bit chilly out, but it wasn't enough to make Zack put on a coat. He honestly didn't even wear it that often when it was cold out. Not only was he pretty used to the cold, but he was always out working on something or tracking something, so the movements kept him pretty warm. He hadn't worn his coat since he had gone skiing with Genesis. That whole interaction still blew his mind, but it was fun!
What he needed in town was simple. Groceries. He was only one man, but he could sure work up an appetite! Of course he didn't buy things to make actual meals, more of the stuff you could put in a toaster oven or microwave since his room didn't have an oven. Zack had thought about moving out and getitng his own place, but he really did like living there. He met all kinds of people who stayed to travel, and the owner always had something for him to do.
Today he was picking up new tags for the room keys, some new dustpans for housekeeping, and a couple new room numbers since someone had decided to run around peeling some off for some reason. He was leaving with the tags and the numbers when he thought he saw familiar blonde hair. Way too familiar. Gettting his hopes up, he went the direction of the blonde, eyes going wide when he was correct. "Cloud!? Is that really you!?"
"Well yeah, I do feel bad. Even if I was just a pawn in the scheme of things, I still did it." Zack wasn't one to really pin the blame on other people if he was involved in things. He knew he screwed up, but he was looking to move forward and make the future much better for himself and those around him. Her next sentence had him scratching his head. "Uh, Cloud did what now?" None of that made any sense to him. Pretended to be SOLDIER? Now that was confusing.
Zack gave a shrug. "People don't like to be wrong sometimes, so they just didn't want to admit you were right and have to say they were wrong. It'll come to bite their butts someday I'm sure." Who let him interact with Yuffie, he was doing nothing but encouraging her, and that might not be the best idea. Also, like he just said, it might come to bite him in the butt later on. Throwing up his hands, he gave up. "Alright, you win. If I ever see them, I'll be sure to let them know you're looking. We'll see if everyone loves you then."
"I'll do my best to not let any get away!" Where he would put all of them he had no idea, but he would cross that bridge if it were to ever happen. Which was probably never. He wasn't even sure if materia was even here, and he doubt it would just fall from the sky if it was. Walking with her and talking like this was pretty relaxing, even if he was probably just digging himself a hole he would have to try to get out of later.
Her next song was just as good as the first. He was sure it was making fun of him in some way, but he had to give her credit for her skills at coming up with things right on the spot. "Hey now! Though it was pretty good, I feel like it was aimed at me. What else you got?" Maybe she would come up with something that didn't have to do with him, or her for that matter. He wasn't sure what else she could sing about in this situation, but he was excited to see.
The snort was not missed by Zack, but he was doing well with Genesis right now, so he was not going to bring it up. The other than mentioned an idea and Zack clapped his hands together. "Yes! Next time for sure!" To be honest, Zack was actually more happy that Genesis was saying they would hang out again than the idea itself, but that also was not going to be mentioned. Zack might be drinking, but he still wasn't about to ruin the good times they were having after everything the both of them had been through together.
Zack couldn't help but chuckle when Genesis finally caved and went to go get the poles as he was making his own way down the mountain. Another Loveless quote came along when Zack had finally pulled himself out of the snow. He noticed Genesis' poles next to him and grabbed them, having two in each hand. He was still beaming at the fact that he had made it all the way down the mountain, despite his failed ending. It had been a blast.
"Honestly, I was thinking the same. It really helps to get a good rhythm first and then go with it. Though, I should probably learn how to stop before I try it again." This place was pretty cool, and Zack was actually thinking about coming here more often to try to get really good at it. There was also snowboaring to try as well, but he wanted to get skiing down first before he attempted both feet on one board.
Genesis then suggested they head back for more drinks and Zack nodded. "Yeah, it's starting to get a little chilly out here, and I could definitely use another drink." Though, it was going to be a little slow since he still had the skiis on, and there was no changing out of them since he didn't have any shoes with him. Awkwardly, he began to make his way back to the place with the alcohol.
When Yuffie mentioned what happened to her home, he looked over at her. "Yeah, that's true. I'm sorry for what happened. I truly believed we were the good guys. Guess I was wrong." Her next statement made him, he threw up his hands. "Hey now! No need to rub it in my face!" He had to admit, she was definitely fun to be around. It was good to have confidence in yourself, and Yuffie radiated with it.
"No, no. They aren't bad guys. Well, not intentially. They had a lot of things happen to them in their past, but they're not bad people. Just don't get on their bad sides though." He was mostly talking about Genesis, though a lecture from Angeal was never any fun either. He had been through a lot of those. As must as he would love to see how Yuffie and Genesis interacted, he knew it wouldn't be a good idea for them to meet. At least, not when it came to talking about Shinra and everything that had happened.
"Well good! If it ever starts to happen, I'll be sure to find you and let you handle it all." To be honest, this might be the time he really did believe her. She was quick, so she definitely could catch it before it hit the ground. Well, depending on how many fell all at once. He could picture it all now. Materia falling from the sky and Yuffie running around catching it all, the biggest smile on her face.
When she mentioned she had more songs, Zack gave her a smile. "Well it seems like we have some time on our hands, so let's hear it." He was actually pretty excited to hear her songs. It had been some time since he had really listened to any music. He didn't know how much longer they had to walk, but they would be entertained the whole way.
"Yeah, that is-hey wait!" It took a moment before Zack realized that it was not a compliment that had come out of Genesis' mouth. Which just further confirmed the statement. That wasn't important. "I thought so too. You can pick up some serious speed with these things!" He could definitely see why people did this for fun or as a sport. Even with the wipeout, Zack was having a really great time. Maybe he would have to come up here more often.
As Genesis pointed out that his wing made it hard for him to keep balanced, Zack gave a nod. "Oh, yeah. Guess we didn't really think about that. Lesson learned though!" It was a little upsetting, but Genesis still stuck around and found his own way to remain with Zack on their little adventure. When he brought up having to return the poles, Zack rubbed the back of his head. "Well they are equipment, so I'd hate to say that we will probably have to return them."
Genesis was then quoting Loveless again, and Zack had to admit, it did fit the situation. Maybe it was starting to grow on him now that he found ways to relate to it. Genesis mentioned Zack finishing the trail, and before Zack could even respond, he was heading down the hill again.
At first, he almost didn't get his footing back. After about five seconds, he regained control and copied what he had done earlier, but with more focus this time. He made sure to avoid the trees, and snow banks this time. Though the one thing he didn't think about, was what he needed to do when he reached the end. He was no longer going downhill, but he was still going. Using the poles, he stabbed them into the ground. Which worked, but sent him headfirst into the snow. Rolling over, he just laughed from his spot in the snow.
Zack scratched the back of his head. "Yeah, I don't think you two would get along well at all." Two minutes with Yuffie and Genesis might fling a Firaga in her direction. That was a meeting he wanted to make sure never happened. Zack had to wonder if he could find other people that Genesis would be friends with. Genesis was someone you could call if you were ever in a bind, even if he didn't show it.
Honestly, Zack didn't even realize that he had called Genesis 'Gen', but the other man didn't object to it. Zack knew better than to push it, so he would be sure to not use it too often. Zack made a scoffing noise. "I don't try to intentially go after people to harm them, but Hojo has it coming." Though he had become a SOLDIER, Zack didn't condone violence unless it was necessary. Hojo was a mad man who had done so much to innocent people. He deserved it.
As soon as he started speeding down the mountain, Zack's smile grew. The wind blew his spiky hair back, and he was having a blast! Though, he started going to the side a little more to the left than he had wanted. All of his SOLDIER training, and he couldn't even figure out how to go left and right on skiis. Leaning to the right, he started getting back to the middle. Extremely proud of himself, he started moving left and right.
He had picked up the pace, and that's when his eyes went wide. One of his dips to the right was just a little too hard and he caught snow a little too harshly. Soon, he too was up in the air, just not in the safe way like Genesis was. As he hit the ground, he tumbled for a little bit before stopping right next to a tree. He was on his side, so he sat up and blinked a few times before bursting out laughing.
Turning to see if Genesis had come down too, he noticed the man was not skiing, but hovering over the snow. He resumed laughing until the man got closer. "Did you see me? I was doing so well!" Until he had crashed, but that wasn't the point here. Standing up the best he could with skiis on, he brushed the snow off of himself and looked up at Genesis. "Not your thing?" He wanted to make fun of him for giving up, but Zack definitely knew better than to do that.
Letting Yuffie "win" was probably the best decision he had made because it did seem to make her happy. She did have a good point, they had been fooled by Shinra. To be fair, he had joined at a young age, so he believed a lot of things he shouldn't have. He was about to mention that when he realized that Yuffie was probably around that age. And she knew what Shinra was really like. Was he really that naive? Though, she was from Wutai, who had bad history with Shinra from the beginning. "Well you were a lot better at seeing that than I was, that's for sure."
Putting his hands together, he gave a bow. "Thank you very much!" He wasn't going to touch on the fact that she had indeed tricked him, because he wasn't going to admit that. After a while, he had caught on. It was entertaining at least, and made for good training, so he wasn't really that upset. The creepy caves he could've done withouth though...
"Oh, Genesis and Angeal were two other Firsts, along with Sephiroth of course." He wasn't about to tell her what had happened to them, that was a story they could tell if they wanted. Angeal might not mind if he told, but he didn't want to think about what Genesis would do to him if he was telling his story. "They went MIA, so they weren't as, um, well known as Sephiroth after a bit."
Zack listened as she went on about materia, and he was a little...concerned about how interested in it she was. "Yeah, that makes sense..." Looking up, it got him thinking. If that were true, would some just fall from the sky? That sounded dangerous. "Just imagine walking around when all of a sudden you get knocked out by materia falling from the sky.." It was definitely an interesting theory.
As she skipped a little ahead of him, she started singing. He had to admit, she was really good at coming up with song lyrics! He bobbed his head to the tune as he walked, slightly humming the best he could to keep up with it. "Did you just make that up? That was really good! If this whole materia hunting thing doesn't work out, you could pursue something in music." He was actually rather excited to be a part of a song!
