Genesis said he would get Zack a ticket, but just one because he didn't like his friends. "Deal, I haven't really met too many people here anyways, and Yuffie would hate Loveless. That's probably for the best." Well, there was Sephiroth as well, but he would probably get a ticket from Genesis as well. Zack was, well mostly puppy energy, but he still did appreciate some finer things in life! Even if he really didn't understand half of it...
"Right, who enlists children. Oh yeah, people who want to brain wash you and experiment on you, but you're too young to realize. That's who." Maybe the hot chocolate was getting to him too, because he was venting far more than he wanted to with Genesis. He was about to shrug it off when he heard Genesis. He didn't want to make a big deal about it, because he knew Genesis would probably just insult him somehow to deflect. "Thanks Gen. You didn't deserve what happened to you either, and I hope you can find something better here." Alcohol made them emotional with dumb ideas apparently.
When they did their toast, Genesis quoted Loveless and Zack just gave a nod. "Yeah, that!" He chugged his as well, and it was delicious. He watched as Genesis just tossed the cup over his shoulder. Zack then looked at his cup, looked around, looked back at his cup and did the same. Where else was it supposed to go?? The snow would just bury it, right?
Zack followed Genesis to the edge of the slope and looked over it. To be fair, this wasn't the best idea. That was clear from the beginning, but he was just now thinking that. But boy oh boy, it was going to be fun. "Umm, yup!" With that, Zack gave Genesis a salute, grabbed a pole in each hand, and pushed himself forward.
Man, was it a rush! Angeal had taken him flying, but this was different. His feet were still on the ground, the air was rushing past his face. The trees going past him were blurry, and he wasn't sure if that was the speed or the alcohol. Or maybe both. He should have tried this before, it was AWESOME!
Wait, did he just get called a hero? By Genesis? Zack wasn't going to make a big deal of it. Not on the outside anyways. Inside, he was actually jumping around like a kid that had just entered a candy store. "I don't know if I want to understand." Understanding Genesis was something his brain probably wouldn't be able to do anyways, so he was just going to leave it at that.
When Genesis said he was going to fix the fact people here didn't know Loveless, Zack didn't really know what to think. To be honest, it wasn't a bad play at all. The only thing that was a little overkill was Genesis reciting it all the time. Even then, it wasn't a horrible thing. "Actually, that sounds kind of cool. I think you could definitely find people who would be interested." It was true, there were people here from all over, there was surely people who would like Loveless.
The comment Genesis made had Zack scoffing. "Alright, yes, definitely that too. Can't believe I had been so excited to join SOLDIER and make it to First. They played us all." Keeping them busy and hiding their secrets had worked for a long time, but when it came to light, it took no time to bring them down. Yes, Zack should be more angry and depressed and all the feelings about what happened during those years, but he just pushed that down.
Zack just kind of stared at Genesis when he said he would throw his drink, because Zack knew that would definitely happen. Before he could say anything, the lift started to move. When he quoted Loveless again, it kind of made sense to Zack with the scenery in front of him. "Yeah." That was really all he could think of saying. It was quite the sight, that was for sure. Maybe this new world wouldn't be too bad.
Following suit, Zack jumped off as well. When Genesis pointed out that they would need both hands for the poles, Zack gave a nod and held out his drink. "Agreed. Cheers?" This was definitely a good idea. Nothing bad would happen, they were both First Class SOLDIERs after all! They were skilled and agile and well trained for anything. Right?
There were some battles that just couldn't be won, where you just had to admit defeat. With Yuffie, sometimes that was just the better option. There was no changing her mind once she had decided something. "Alright, you got me there." Sure, it probably wasn't the best idea to encourage her, but if she hadn't changed in the years that he had known her, then he didn't know if there was much hope in her changing anytime soon. Besides, confidence was a good trait to have!
Okay, he didn't expect her to ask for that. "Uh, I really don't have either on me. I have some gil, but not really that much." He made enough to live and have some extra, but he hadn't made much of a living for himself just yet in this new world. He had his feet on the ground for the most part, but there was still a ways for him to go to be stable.
Zack had never seen Yuffie fight, but if she through as much enthusiasm into her fighting as she did in her dedication to getting materia, he figured she could hold her own pretty well. "Well, I'm really hoping it won't come to that. With Angeal and Genesis here as well, everything should be find. Just gotta keep an eye on him." Though, it seemed that Sephiroth was learning what he had done. Maybe hearing how it all ended up ahead of time would also help to prevent it. It was a ticking time bomb.
Yuffie became pretty excited when he agreed to look into these Dragonblades people, and she was asking him to follow her. "Alright, alright, I'm coming." He went to follow her adn she made a comment about being a thief. "Is there even any Materia here? Besides what people from our world came with?" He had his Materia on him still, so he figured the others got to keep theirs as well. It didn't seem like there was any more here, or any way to make any more.
Zack gave a nod. "Yes, Angeal was able to make copies as well. Though, they weren't "people" like Genesis had. He basically just copied his face onto monsters." For now, Zack was going to avoid that Lazard had turned into an Angeal copy. That piece really didn't matter in thie situation. The conversation was already derailed, and Zack was sure he was probably saying too much, but he wasn't sure Sephiroth would let him walk away without the information, so it was now or never. He would take the lashing from Genesis and Angeal if needed later.
It was then that it dawned on him. This Sephiroth wasn't there for any of that. There was a chance he didn't even know that Genesis had made copies of himself too. Zack was digging himself a hole, and he was sure it was his grave at this point. He hated to relive all of it, but he didn't have too much of a choice. "Yes. Genesis teamed up with Hollander." Zack was starting to get uncomfortable, and he didn't want to tell too much and have Sephiroth think too much into it. "Though I'm sure he's told you that? If he hasn't, I think that's something he should tell you about."
How Sephiroth would take that statement was to be seen. Though Sephiroth seemed to be distracted by what Zack had told him about Angeal's death. Would he believe him? He barely knew Zack, there was definitely a good chance that he wouldn't. Zack was sure he might be sweating because he was very nervous right now. He was a trained fighter, yes. This was Sephiroth though, and that was someone he definitely couldn't win in a fight against.
Zack didn't say anything, but instead gave a nod when Sephiroth said to keep it, then let out a breath that he hadn't realized he was holding. Sephiroth seemed to believe him, so far at least. Zack then realized that it would really suck to be here surrounded by your friends, but they all had lives after you were taken. They did things that you didn't remember, and you were involved. To hear of everything that happened by word of mouth. He felt bad for Sephiroth.
The next question took Zack by surprise. Sephiroth asked if they had been friends, and Zack had to think. "I like to think we were, or we were heading in that direction. We went on a mission together, and also tried to search for Angeal and Genesis together as well." If things hadn't of gone so horribly wrong, they could have gotten closer.
Truth be told, Zack was fully aware he wouldn't get compliments or anything along the lines of nice from Genesis, whether or not they were on good terms or not. So, he really didn't take much of it to heart. He was starting to be able to tell when Genesis was just messing around or if he was actually trying to be a jerk. "Yeah, yeah." He decided not to push the matter anymore, that might actually have been as close to a compliment as he was going to get from the other man, so he might as well just let it be.
"That's what I've been told, confirmed by a few others." What Genesis said next was not what he expected. He thought that it was going to be a comment about overkill, which would have been humorous coming from Genesis. That was not the case. "The man summons a meteor, and you mock him for being lazy. Alright then." It was probably about time Zack stopped trying to figure Genesis out and to just roll with it, but then again, that probably wouldn't be a good idea either. How did Angeal manage?
Genesis told Zack not to fall off the mountain, and Zack gave him a thumbs up. "Got it!" Though, that probably wasn't a good indication that he wouldn't. There was still a huge change that he would in fact, fall off the mountain. Zack had full confidence he would be fine, and that nothing bad was going to happen.
"Sure, but I don't think that man speaks Loveless." The drinks might be hitting for Zack to poke at Genesis, but he felt that wasn't too bad. Once he was handed his skis, he also took to strapping them on. Following Genesis, he had poles in one hand and his drink in the other. He also came to conclusion that these were not great to just walk in. He had to remind himself that walking was not what they were made for. They were made for going down mountains at a fast speed.
Zack gave a nod. "The one thing we openly agree on, and it's skis." It was definitely turning out to be an interesting night, and they hadn't even gotten to the top of the hill yet. Zack didn't have much better luck making it to the lift, but he made it and plopped in next to Genesis. "I wonder if we'll have to wait for others or if it'll take just us up there." Taking a sip of his drink, he warmed up just a bit more.
Honestly, Zack was really confused as he spoke with Yuffie about Shinra. It's like she actually was trying to make him feel better, but it also seemed like she wasn't? He had come to the conclusion that she really had not changed much at all. "Yeah, I guess you're right. I'm just glad they at least were finally brought down, though not before they caused so much crap for others." If he could go back to the times that were much simpler, he would. He felt even worse for Yuffie because he had basically tricked her into leaving him alone so he could attack her home. So, giving her an ego boost was the least he could do for the time being.
"Oh thank Gaia." Then she mentioned that he was easy to trick and he just smirked. "Oh, I knew exactly what you were doing. The little adventures you sent me on were some of the best training exercises I had. It was definitely worth it for me." It was true, after about the first two, he knew what she was doing. It gave him something to and he got to practice on living things, not just virtual ones. It was a win for both of them it looked like.
The fact that there was more than one Buster Sword made more sense with what Yuffie had to say next, which was something he never thought could be possible with her. "I mean, technically the sword isn't really either of ours. It was passed down to me, and I passed it down to him. I've heard Angeal is here too, so there is probably three of these swords around." That would definitely be a sight to see. It would be both heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time. He hoped Angeal wouldn't mind...
Zack gave a nod. "There is a chance that it happened to both of us. To be honest, it wasn't very sturdy up there in my opinion. Luckily she had that flower patch below us, or it would not have ended up as well. Maybe it was placed there for that reason." Aerith was an Ancient, maybe she was informed that something would happen right there. Why else would she have planted flowers in just that location?
As Yuffie explained the Dragonblades, it sounded more intriguing to him. So he would still get to do what he wanted, and they would help him find work as well? That could be good for him. "Okay, that kind of does sound like a good deal. And no! I would never!" He wanted to add he wasn't like her, but figured that might not be a good thing to do.
To say Zack was nervous was the understatement of the year. To just be watched by Sephiroth while he was trying to come up with the right words only made it harder to come up with ANY words at this point. Sephiroth had been much easier to be around when they were trying to help out Angeal and Genesis, why was it so nerve wracking now? Maybe it was because they were after the same thing back then and were working together. Now this was Zack trying not make everything worse.
When Sephiroth narrowed his eyes, Zack wanted to turn and just run to be honest. This was a man that could kill him in one swing, and here he was stumbling over his words just to tell him about one of his good friends being killed. Zack was not good with being under pressure like this. To go through training for SOLDIER? Easy. This was something else entirely for Zack, as he wasn't the best at having serious conversations.
Sephiroth stated that Genesis had told him Angeal committed suicide and Zack gave a nod. "Yes, that is true, in a way. He knew he was dying, so he fused together with his copies and attacked me. I was the one that killed him." This was definitely one of the biggest pieces of information that Zack had ever given to someone, and of all people, it had to be said to Sephiroth. He might die again today.
Well, he had already come this far. "After the battle, he was lying there. He said 'You have my thanks. This is for you.', and handed me the Buster Sword. He said 'Protect your Honor, always.' I'm not sure why he picked me of all people, but that's what happened." Zack knew there was a chance that Sephiroth might not believe him, but he had told the truth.
Angeal had been the best mentor Zack could have ever hoped to have, and he even considered him to be a good friend. That still didn't explain why he was left with the Buster Sword. "I know we didn't know each other, but I learned a lot from Angeal and I would have never made it to First Class without him. I didn't want to do it, but I had no choice." Angeal had made the choice himself, and there was nothing else Zack could do to stop him.
Okay, ouch. "Hey, you make it sound like it's rare for me to have something useful to say!" Then again, this was Genesis after all. "See. Just gotta check in on him here and there and he should be fine. Hopefully." Or he could get mad at everyone trying to help. Zack was starting to think that somehow, they may be in for an even more complicated situation than before. Everyone was here though, including Cloud and his friends who had also fought against Sephiroth. So at least they would stand a good chance against the silver haired general.
Yeah, Zack could have dropped that bomb of information a little better, but at least it got the point across. "Unfortunately I'm not joking. I don't know a lot of the details that happened after I died, but apparently it got pretty bad. He summoned a Meteor I guess." Now Zack wished he had more details about it all, but he figured he could get the story from Cloud or Tifa if he ever ran into them. As much as enjoyed Yuffie's stories, they were never the full story, just the things she wanted to brag about.
"Hey! It's a normal thing to fall from great heights! Though I do actually wonder how I survived that. It was pretty long fall." Cloud had apparently survived it as well, so maybe it was where they had landed that had saved them? In all reality, that fall should have at least seriously injured them. They were both just fine.
"I don't think that's best outlook to have in life, but it sounds like a good idea for this moment." Zack should know better than to expect anything else from Genesis, but in this case, he wasn't going to argue against it. The two were actually getting along for the most part, so he wasn't about to ruin the good time. He drank the rest of his hot chocolate, got another one and followed Genesis out of the door.
Growing up in Gongaga, Zack didn't really mind the cold, but he was glad he had brought a black jacket with him and slipped on some gloves. Handles? Oh, the weird pole things you would stab into the ground to do, well, something. The snow was glistening under the lights and Zack was glad he was able to finally try skiing. Winter was a beautiful season, even it did get freezing cold outside.
When they got up to the counter, Genesis was the first to speak. Which was not a great idea because the person behind the counter was more confused than he ever was when Genesis recited Loveless. "Skis. We need skis. And, pole handle things." It looked like the employee wanted to say something, but he just let it go it seemed. Two guys with drinks in their hands not knowing anything about skiing? Yeah, not dangerous at all.
Zack saw the frown on Yuffie's face, and he wouldn't blame her if she had any vendetta against him. He did invade her home after all, and took out a lot of the warriors there. He went in, so excited to be a part of the action, to prove himself to Angeal that he had what it took to be First Class. That he belonged in SOLDIER. He never once stopped to think and really try to understand just what was going on and what Shinra was really up to.
What Yuffie said next did make sense honestly. "Yeah, I guess being on the inside meant I couldn't see what was going on the outside of it all. To think I wanted to be a part of that for so long." Zack was never really serious, so it was defintely a little different having this conversation, with Yuffie of all people. The little girl he pretended to be defeated by just to make her happy. That was so long ago now...
"Hey! Can't fault a guy for just trying to see the best in people! I didn't mind really, it was good training!" It had been, though he had fought some really weird monsters along the way. And he never got the rewards from them. He loved helping people and making them happy, and he didn't mind not getting anything in return. Her coming back over and over again to ask for his help was good enough for him.
Zack had heard before that Cloud also had the Buster Sword, but now he knew for sure that he did. "Yeah, I hope people aren't just losing memories, because there's always a chance that lost memories could return. And if Sephiroth only just LOST his, it would be very bad for him to remember them again." That really wasn't something he wanted to think about though. "I wonder if Angeal has it as well. That would be interesting to see, three Buster Swords."
Giving a shrug, Zack crossed his arms. "Well I mean when we're sitting above a whole civilization, it's bound to happen. Strange that it happened to be her church both times though." Zack wasn't even going to address the whole mating ritual comment. "No, I could never be a thief, but that organization sounds pretty interesting. Are they pretty legit?" He had never heard of them, but then again, he didn't pay much attention to things like that when traveling.

WOULD YOU SAY I BECAME A HERO?
Sephiroth had never been one for words, and Zack, well he liked all the words. Silence made him uncomfortable, and sometimes made him think that the person didn't want to talk to him or that he was intruding. He didn't really think any of those things with Sephiroth, mainly due to the fact that he knew that was just how the First Class was. Zack liked to believe that Sephiroth enjoyed being around others, but since he really hadn't been growing up, he didn't know how to act. Zack was aware of that, so he didn't really push for excessive chatting.
As a First Class himself, Zack did notice that Sephiroth seemed to be looking at his face, mainly his left cheek. It had dawned on Zack just then that he did look different than Sephiroth last saw him. He hoped that he looked more muscular and defined so that Sephiroth could actually notice that he had come a long way since their last meeting in his memory. The last thing he needed was for Sephiroth to just wave him off because he was too inexperienced or anything like that.
Zack then noticed Sephiroth was looking at the Buster Sword. He figured that would come up quite a bit, given there was apparently now three of them on Zephon. Sephiroth gave a short answer, and before Zack could even respond, he followed up with a statement about the Buster Sword. That didn't surprise Zack, given Sephiroth was Angeal's friend. This Sephiroth in particular didn't know that Angeal had died, and that Zack was the one who had done it.
Well, this was awkward. Zack scratched the back of his head. "Yes, that is correct. It's, a little complicated." To be honest, Zack wasn't sure how much he should say about the whole thing. He really didn't want to be part of the reason Sephiroth started thinking about the past. Then again, he didn't just want to say nothing either. Zack wasn't the best with serious conversations, but this one was turning out to be the worst one to figure out.
"To keep it simple, in the other world, Angeal was killed. He told me to take it before he died. So, now I have it." Zack knew that Cloud had fought Sephiroth in this world already, so Sephiroth would also know that there was a third here as well. Unless everything happened so quickly that he didn't see it. Oh man, where were Genesis and Angeal when he needed them?
