"It sounds like a kind name. And thank you, I am honored of being called talented." said the bard with a sweet smile on his lips when he heard the girl's name and her compliment. It was more or less his standard expression, just perhaps even friendlier than usual. A little later, after saying he could play for her or they could keep company to each other, he listened to the girl's response and widened his smile a little. "I have not led such an interesting life, I'm afraid." he replied before chuckling "But I am more than glad to share a few stories with you." He followed her gaze and gesture when it wandered in search for a quieter place to speak comfortably in. "As you wish, Terra. I will follow you."
While following the girl to the table, the ancient let his eyes wander, following the currents of aether that swirled and travelled through everything and everyone around them. The shades he could see with his Soulsight were different from the ones back in Amaurot or Elpis. He loved to look for the tiniest details that made the difference, be it in the hue or shape that the aether would take while roaming. It was beautiful and unique, unlike anything else. He truly felt lucky for this gift to have been bestowed upon him at birth by the very Star.
Once at the table, he let his instrument rest on the ground, leaning onto it, and took a seat in front of the girl. "Allow me to ask you again. Would you tell me your story, Terra? You look like someone.. who has suffered from great pain." he started, now focusing on her. "But also like someone incredibly kind, and loving. Am I reading you right?"He concluded, trying now to focus on her actual face instead of the colors of her soul. It was hard to ignore his gift, he could not really turn it off and on at will, but at least he could try to see through the aether. Maybe.

Looking around in the desperate search for aid, Hythlodaeus saw an unfamiliar soul coming closer. He stopped to look at it for a moment before his attention was captured by the man holding his wrist once again: as he tightened the grip, the bard winced in pain and attempted to use his free hand to loosen it. Needless to say, he did not manage to - until someone captured their attention, allowing him to finally break free. The lavender-haired ancient did not run away -he could not even if he wanted to, and that he knew full well- but he massaged his own wrist with a slightly bothered expression. "Heavens.." he muttered, before moving his gaze to meet the woman's figure.
He witnessed her gather fire-aspected aether and then turn it into a flame, that darted towards her target, but Hythlodaeus's eyes focused on her soul instead of her magic. Made curious by the very peculiar composition of the same, he raised his eyebrows in a slightly surprised expression. He had never seen anything like that. Yes, souls did tend to lean more towards one element than the others, but this looked.. so oddly balanced, for how unbalanced it was.
He forced himself to look away, not wanting to seem rude, and looked once again at the man standing before him, as the others seemed quite unsure about what to do. The man was looking at the woman. He emitted something similar to a growl, then stared at the bard as if he wanted to kill him. He had not answered the woman's questions before, and only took one hesitant step back after her request. So Hythlodaeus took a few steps backwards himself, trying to get closer to the woman. "I am sorry for the trouble, milady." He said, then he addressed the man again. "May I at least ask why you were still following me? I have given you all the money I had. What have I done to upset you?" He was still walking backwards. As an answer, the man ran towards him and grabbed him by the neck of his clothes. "You slept with my wife, that's what you've done!"
The bard was completely taken aback by the man's words. Judging by his soul, he was telling the truth. But he was definitely wrong. "You are.. convincing, for sure, but this is very unlikely. I can assure you I haven't been in bed with someone in... Well, eons." Replied the ancient. "And.." he hesitated for a moment. He had a feeling it would not end well.. but he had to try. "And... I am in love with someone." "With her, of course!" "No, I-" but before he could finish his sentence the man hit him with a punch right on his cheek. He had seen his intention, so at least he managed to reduce the strength of the blow by moving his head slightly, but it still hurt. "Please, listen. I am in love with-" This time he actually managed to break free from his grasp before the second punch could hit.
"Heavens, I am in love with a man!" He blurted out in the end, rubbing his sore cheek. "And I have been for the last few millenia! Well, more, probably. You have nothing to fear from me, you only have the wrong person." It was rare for him to lose his smile, but this misunderstanding in particular got under his skin very quickly. And the surprised expression on the man's face quickly faded into an amused grin. "Oh? Listen to this pink-haired freak! That's even worse." He was soon followed by his friends with one comment or the other about his sexuality, or even his gender. Apparently, his delicate features were reason for mockery. Something on the lines of "a woman with a man's voice or a man with a woman's face" or hints about what would happen after "bending over".
Hythlodaeus took one deep breath, then turned around. He wanted to walk away together with the woman, but he was pulled backwards by the braided hair and slammed onto a wall. As that same man focused on him, the other three men walked in between the woman and the other two. "Well, guess we can have fun with her instead. She's here anyway.." said one of them. But no, he truly had more than enough of the whole lot of them. He sighed. He really did not want to resort to violence. But. He would not let that person end up in harm's way because of him. "No you won't-" he muttered, but before he could do anything he felt The man pull on his hair again. "Think about yourself."

He had once again ended up in trouble. He had no idea what he had done wrong, but apparently these people held a grudge - and a big one. "One, two, three, four, isn't this a little unfair?" he asked, chuckling nervously. They surrounded him at first, asked him to surrender his belongings.. but he had close to nothing except for his lute! He did give them the few coins he had gained by singing, but it was clearly not enough for them, they thought it a joke. Probably because of his clothes? They were undoubtedly well kept, but.. that was done with magic, needle and thread. Certainly not with coin.
And so he was forced to escape, or try to.
He did not remember if he had any power that could help him out of the situation, but at least he could try. So he attempted to strum a melody on his lute to calm them down or at least confuse them, but as soon as he struck the first chord one of his assailants took the instrument from his hands and threw it on the ground. "My lute!" he almost shouted, attempting to catch it, but the man pushed him backwards onto a wall instead. "I would worry about myself if I were you."
He was not a magician. He was not a warrior. He was only a bard, and an archer, and an office worker. He tried to focus, to check in the aether currents whether he could find an escape route. Then he suddenly remembered. He could teleport. Considering he was not sure to have an anchor point for somewhere far away, he had to teleport somewhere nearby, and hope that it would be enough to confuse the assailants. So he focused, and teleported right behind them, and next to his now half broken lute. He picked it up and started running, hanging it on his shoulders, then he summoned his bow and aimed towards them. His aim was not to harm them, but to slow them down and grant to himself a swift escape, so he went for a repelling shot, infusing his aether in the arrow. As it hit the floor just one step in front of his assailants, it emitted a shockwave that moved the men a few yalms backwards, startling them.
Then he started running again. Too bad he was not a very quick runner either - he could walk for miles and miles without being tired, but running? He could only run from Hades, and only because his friend let him. He was not too surprised when one of them grabbed him by a wrist and pulled him backwards. As he tried to break free, he looked around. Perhaps there was a kind soul around who could give him a hand?

About Hythlodaeus
He's an ancient and a bard, first and foremost. He's friendly and easygoing "by default", gentle and kind, but also terribly smug and cheeky - and he would almost never refuse to pull a prank on someone. He loves to tease, and does so often.
He has very low self-esteem and often drinks to forget this. Although his Soulsight and ability with the bow are remarkable, he still considers himself almost entirely useless. His purpose in life is to help and support Azem and Emet-Selch.
He enjoys reading and most importantly he absolutely loves to play his lyre and to sing, to write and play music.
Plot ideas
★ The Wandering Ministrel ★ Well, title says it all. He's a bard, and as such he wanders and plays his music all around the world. If you ever need a background to your adventures, a moment of respite or something on those lines, he's the ancient man you ought to call.
★ A helping hand ★ He might have a little bit of a problem with aether manipulation, BUT he would jump in someone's aid without a second thought if he deemed it necessary. It is also true that, while being an ancient, he's not actually too good at fighting and thus might be in big trouble if his pranks or sarcasm get on someone's nerves. He also has a habit of drinking too much when he feels lonely, useless, or otherwise upset.
★ A link of souls ★ Considering he can see people's souls and their color, and distinguish one from the other even at a distance, he would recognize at the very least as familiar someone who he has met at least once in his life. You've witnessed his performance? Been a long lost friend? A shard of someone he once knew? He will know. Or at least have a faint reminiscence.
Relationships
★ Hades, aka Emet-Selch: His childhood best friend, and love interest (although he has made peace in his heart with the fact that they will never be anything more than friends). He has recently found him again.

As soon as he heard his voice, Hythlodaeus's heart seemed to stop for a moment. He took a deep breath and put one shaky hand on the door, pushing it open. Then he closed it behind his back, without even looking at it, as his eyes locked onto the figure of his dearest friend. He stared at him for a long moment, with his usual smile on his lips, before he finally gathered the strength to speak. "Have you missed me, Hades?" He asked, before he started walking towads him. He stopped right in front of the desk. "I see your brows are still united as one." After this comment, he chuckled just slightly and extended one hand towards him leaning forward onto the desk, in the attempt to slightly massage the point in between the dark-haired ancient's brows with two fingers. "And look at your eyes. How many days has it been since you last slept? You should really rest, every now and then, my friend."
His hand was still shaky - he was still trembling with anxiety, anticipation and so many other feelings, but he tried his best not to show, even if he was almost sure that his dear friend would just know. His smile slowly faded, shifing to something very different, in-between relief and regret. "I'm sorry." He muttered, lowering his gaze. "I know I must be bothering you. I know you must be busy. But.. but.." He tried to hold back, to contain himself, but in the end he just couldn't and as he covered his mouth with the back of his hand he simply started crying. "I awakened to amnesia. And when I remembered you.. I thought the threads of fate had chosen to keep us apart even in death. I thought I would have to keep being my usual, useless self - but without a purpose."
He took a deep breath and finally looked at him "You are my purpose. You and Azem. And without you, I.." He rubbed his arm slightly with the opposite hand, as if he was cold. "I had to find you. And when I heard about you, I.. I had to come here. And these last few interminable days.. I did not even think you might have forgotten me. Or that you may not want me with you. But you have your life, and.. and I'm just a shadow of the past, am I not?" As he tried his best to smile as if he didn't care, ignoring his own tears completely, he tightened the grip on his arm. He should not have come. He could see his feelings, but he could still not believe that they had truly missed each other. He should have thought about this far more carefully.

It was never easy to find a place where he could be in complete solitude. Not only because he could literally see people from yalms away, but because many just approached him. He had chosen to spend his day at the beach, singing for the people and enjoying the sunlight - he even bathed with a few friends he had made that very day. As the sun started to fall behind the horizon, he eventually decided to take his leave and find the place called Hero's Haven. He had heard of it before, but never took his time to visit it.. and now was the chance. He entered the building with his faithful guitar on his back and his eternally present smile on the lips. He took whatever strong local liquor they had and sat at a table. He was used enough to drinking that he knew full will he could not have settled with only wine.
Problem was, eventually he started to think. And thinking meant feeling nostalgic, and nostalgia brought him to drink his entire beverage in one sip. And then to order one more. Oh how dearly he missed his friends. The life of a wandering ministrel was both full of people and terribly lonely, somehow. He always had people around him, whether it was to listen to his stories or songs, or for any other reason. At the same time, though, he did not have HIS people around him. Nobody he could lean onto. Not his family, nor his lifelong friends. He rested his head on the table, hitting it gently with a thud. "Should I have stayed with you, Hades?" he muttered.
If only he could have him there right at that moment, just to pester him in the usual way, to feel his presence, to see his soul, to massage his frown only to tease him and make him frown even more. He sighed, then straightened up a bit and took another few sips from his glass. Perhaps he could have asked if he could perform. Singing had always been the best way to sort his thoughts and feelings.. but why did he not feel like playing at all?

A feminine voice distracted his from his own thoughts soon after he finished that sentence - had he said it? Apparently he did, considering what the girl said as he turned around to face her with the usual, sweet smile on his lips. "Thank you, my lady." he said, bowing his head just slightly to accompany his words. "I am glad I could reach the hearts of this many people." he confessed, then he put away the money and looked at the girl once again. He had never seen such shades on anyone, back in his homeworld, which could only mean she came from another. He had learned, in time, that every Star had a very specific shade or pattern that belonged to it - and it alone. Thus was he able to understand roughly the origins of people.
Thoughts aside, he kept smiling kindly at the girl. "I am Hythlodaeus, wandering ministrel. May I ask for your name?" he said, then he took the guitar in his hands once again. "As for what you said before.. I can sing for you again, if you like - this or another story. I have plenty to share." He looked at the guitar, then in the girl's eyes. "I have heard tales from far and beyond, surely I will find one for you." After these words, he looked to the side. "Or perhaps I could ask you to keep me company for a short while? I would like to know your story. Maybe I can put it into song, soon enough. If you allow me, of course."

A glimpse of surprised fear was caught by the Ancient's eyes as soon as he spoke, but it faded away as quickly as it had appeared, turning into a slight tension - it was probably because she did not know him, he thought. She could have expected literally anything, after all. So he swiftly explained why he had approached and introduced himself in as cautious and friendly a manner he knew. "What a melodious name." he commented with a smile when she told him hers. Perhaps he did get a little carried away by his own curiosity soon after, though, as he quickly told her what he wanted from her (perhaps a little too quickly) - if she would agree to his request, of course.
As soon as she told him to slow down, he actually stopped talking, giving her the space and time she needed to process his request and ask her questions. He chuckled and nodded when he heard her if he was asking to sing with her for fun. "Indeed, I am." he replied, the shadow of a smile still on his face. He then listened to her as she revealed to him she found his request quite sudden, and that she was afraid to ruin his melody, but as she apologized he denied her words with his head. "Do not worry, I do understand I came out of nowhere with such a peculiar request - and I apologize once again for bothering you when you probably only wanted to buy a few things and go. But."
His expression shifted just a little, turning into a more understanding one. He knew how she fell, and not only because he could literally see it, but because he had been in a similar situation before. "I must say, I used to be just as afraid as you. If it wasn't for my lifelong friends, I would not be here trying to let my music resonate with everyone." he confessed "I used to only play for them, and I would still be in the same position had they not pushed me towards this journey." His eyes turned nostalgic as he talked about his old friends. He missed them dearly, but at least he was sure they were doing more than well and he did not need to worry.
"That is to say... that you will get used to the people. Or if you're too scared, you can simply close your eyes and follow my lead. You may not believe me, but from what I have heard, your voice is truly captivating - and is likely to suit mine well. And on top of that, you have learned the melody I was singing after you listened to it only once or twice throughout the song. I have reason to think you may be far more talented than you dare believe." He stopped talking for a moment, to take one step back, bow just slightly and extend his right hand to her, while his left went back upon his heart. "Will you allow me to prove it?"

Hythlodaeus
Ancient | Age ? | 194x75 | M | Bard
The Adventurer's Paradise had not disappointed the lavender-haired Ancient so far - and was still not doing so in any way at the moment. He had just finished playing his guitar in the market square, gently picking the strings to accompany his warm voice in a slightly melancholic, sweet song of his own making. He had sung about his old friends, from whom he had been separated for too long: about their deep connection. how they could understand one another with a single glance, how they had chosen each other. At the end of the song, he had closed his eyes, picturing them right before him. He was alone, though, in his travels.
When he opened his eyes, the colours of the souls in front of him blinded him for a moment. They were bright vibrant - although some more than others. He loved the effect the melodies he played, infused with just a little bit of aether, could have on others. He loved to see the people captivated by the stories he sang, he loved to see their souls resonating with his music. And when the people left, only then did the emptiness come back, weighing his heart down.
After losing himself for a moment in his own thoughts, he painted the usual, friendly smile on his lips. He thanked the people who had not already gone and invited them to come back the following week. After doing this, he stood and hung the guitar on his back. Taking a quick look at the offers the people had given him, he widened his smile a little. He was not playing for the money, but if people were willing to part with it, then it must have meant that he was not as useless as he sometimes thought. At the very least, he would be able to pay for a room and some warm food, for both that day and the next. It was much more than he usually earned.
"I suppose you were right, my friend." he muttered, staring at the offers for a moment "The people truly do seem to like my music."

Lost in observation of the people around him, Hythlodaeus smiled sweetly to the people who cheered for his music. It was then, when the people who applauded were leaving, that he heard it. That same melody he had just sung, hummed by another voice - an unknown one. Following both his ears and sight, he stood, hung his guitar at his back and quietly walked towards one of the stands, where a charming lady was buying apples. She had just thanked the man when Hythlodaeus managed to be close enough to speak without shouting.
"Greetings!" he said cheerfully, with the same sweet smile as before painted on his lips "I am sorry to bother you, but... I found it necessary to approach. You have a wonderful voice - at least from what I could hear." he continued, before he positioned one hand on his heart to introduce himself: "I am Hythlodaeus, travelling minstrel. I believe it was my song that I heard coming from you, and... I would like to sing with you." He moved his hand to gently point at the woman around the end of the sentence. "If you would like to, of course. I am not the kind of person who would pester a stranger, no matter how charming."
His smile shifted at the last few words, becoming slightly more amused, and his eyebrows travelled just a little upwards, in an expression that could have meant either that he was flirting with her, or joking innocently. "Or, I could just go back to playing over there and stop bothering you, if you so wish." he added in the end, discreetly gesturing at the place he was sitting on just a few moments before. It was clear by his gaze that he was hoping for her to accept, but he would surely not force his presence upon the lady. She was not Hades, after all, so he was not really compelled to act as he would have done with his old friend.
