Tseng wasn't worried about not seeing people he knew, he wasn't one that depended on many people. Working with others proved to be beneficial on some occasions, but there was a lot things he liked to do on his own. Like investigating. It was easier to approach people and ask questions without anyone with you. Groups can intimidate people and that wasn't something you wanted when you were trying to get information. It could help sometimes, but more often it does not. At least not for Tseng. He didn't work well with others.
As he watched her ponder her thoughts, he started to wonder what happened to her. If this were anyone else, he wouldn't care that much. He had spent quite a bit of his life focused on her, so it was hard not to care. She was here though, and she was safe. That was all that mattered to him, and he wasn't going to pry into her life when she didn't want to speak about it. She would let him know when she was ready, if ever.
Aerith looked up at the sky, and he had to look as well. He had almost forgotten that she was raised in the slums. The sky wasn't something she was used to seeing, as far as he knew anyways. For him, he saw it everyday. "Yes, your freedom. Your life is yours now." A small smile crept over his face at the thought. In a way, they were both free from each other. How strange that fact was when they were here now together in that same free world they spoke of.
Tseng met her eyes when they both looked down from the sky. It seemed like she didn't have a clue what to do with her newly found freedom, and he didn't blame her. When she stated she was in search of a place to stay, he had to think. "I would offer a place with me, but I have yet to find a permanent residence myself. Every place here has its own unique qualities, and are very good at helping out those who have just arrived. Am I the first person you have seen?"
When Aerith asked if any of the others were here, he thought about it. It dawned on him that he had not seen anyone else from Gaia. "Not that I have seen, no." That didn't mean they weren't there, he himself had just not run into them. Tseng was used to losing people, but Aerith felt things differently than himself. He knew the news would not bring her joy, but he wasn't going to hide it from her. Maybe she would be able to find them in her own adventures.
Tseng chuckled lightly when she turned his own question back on him. She was the same Aerith he had always known. "It was some time after I last saw you at the Temple of the Ancients. You were my last memory." That fact hadn't actually dawned on him until that moment, which made their whole reunion just a little more bittersweet. To this day, he still didn't know if they were able to stop Sephiroth, but he hoped they did.
Aerith was evading his question, but he wasn't going to push it. If she didn't want to answer, that was that. "I believe you have much more freedom here. Shinra is no more. There might be a chance of Sephiroth being here, but I have not determined that yet." If he was, he wasn't sure what would happen here. If history would repeat itself for him or not. Without Shinra here, would Sephiroth still be the same?
Crossing his arms, Tseng tilted his head. "What do you plan on doing with your freedom Miss Gainsborough?" Aerith had gone basically her whole life being tracked down and watched at all times, and now that was no longer going to happen. He wasn't going to follow her around anymore, unless she asked him to, though he believed she was capable of handling herself, so there would be no need for that.
Aerith had been an assignment for the Turks for years, Tseng himself tracking her as since he was just 15 years old. He never took her by force, he wanted her to go on her own free will. To say the least, he had grown a small attachment to Aerith over the years, he wanted her safe. He knew why Shinra wanted her, and knew the things Hojo might do to her. He had a job to do, but that didn't mean he had to make her go with him.
Tseng wasn't upset that she wasn't happy to see him, he had been following her most of her life after all. Now to see him once again in a new world? He chuckled a bit. "It would appear that I am." He approached her a bit more, but not too close. There was a chance that she would turn and walk away from him. This wasn't Gaia. She wasn't wanted by Shinra anymore. She was free.
"This place is called Zephon. It seems to have brought quite the assortment of people here." Though Tseng hadn't met too many people that he cared to keep in contact with, it seemed they all had similar stories. They were inches from death and then they suddenly woke up here. He wanted to know why, and he wouldn't stop until he did so. Aerith being here might prove to be helpful, if she still had the connection to the planet as she had on Gaia.
That was a stretch though, as it was a whole new place, so he didn't have his hopes up about that. Still, she might still be of help to him. "What was the last thing you remember?" His first question would have been asking how she was, but she was standing before him and talking, and she didn't look harmed. Not physically anyways, so he figured he would see how she was doing mentally.
Tseng took a sip of his whiskey as he sat at the tavern down the street from where he was currently residing. He hadn't really settled anywhere yet, as he had yet to find a place suitable to what he would need. The only life that Tseng knew was as a Turk, and he planned to do the same here. Of course, there would be some changes, the biggest being that he would be the one calling the shots. There wouldn't be any hidden agendas from the upper levels. He would be helping people, doing the dirty work they didn't want to.
Setting down the now empty glass, he paid his tab and headed out the door. It had become something of a nightly routine to have a drink before heading to destination for the night. He had been in Provo for a few days now, having rented a room at an inn. Tonight was his last night there, and he still had not found a suitable location to set up. He wanted somewhere that was concealed, but also somewhere he could reside in as well.
The next step would be recruitment. Tseng had spoken to some people here and there, but none that had really peaked his interest. He was glad the other Turks weren't here, as that would mean that they would probably met their end on Gaia, but he would not be mad if they showed up here. To be accurate, he would appreciate them being here right about now.
As he made his way back to the inn, Tseng let his mind wander. He hadn't seen much that warranted the kind of work that he was pursuing, but that didn't mean that there wasn't anything out there. Perhaps there were others around doing the same thing, and doing it well. As he walked, he noticed a figure in the distance that looked very familiar. 'It couldn't be...' He made his way closer to the girl, and she came into his view. "Miss Gainsborough."
Tseng had spent most of his time on Zephon trying to figure why people were brought there, who brought them there, and if there was a way to get back home. In his travels, he had met some interesting people, some strange people, and some people he never wanted to see again. It was both refreshing and unnerving to him that the crime rate here wasn't very high. Then again, maybe he just happened to be in each region at the right time. He had rescued a purse or two, and gotten some cats out of trees, but life here was growing to be quite dull for the Turk.
And in a way, it wasn't. Tseng had been a Turk most of his life, so it was really all he knew. He didn't know how to take a proper vacation, how to just go out to dinner, or really how to "hang out". There was always something to do back home, something that needed to be dealt with. Monsters everywhere, people that needed to be silence, bases that needed infultrated. It was true that there were some places here that did have monsters and things alike, but they seem to mainly be in that certain area. That was it.
Currently, Tseng was in the desert area. He didn't mind being here, it was really quite peaceful. There was one lone piece of civilization and it reminded Tseng of the slums. Not saying it was underdeveoloped or lacked resources, but just the way the people were. Everyone was kind and always lended a hand where it was needed. Definitely something Shinra never had to offer.
Part of him missed the Turk lifestyle. There was always something happening, and he was damn good at what he did. Another part of him wanted to experience this sort of lifestyle. To just not worry about agendas or keeping what he did a secret and laying low his whole life. He could be whatever he wanted here, and no one could tell him otherwise. As he sat at a little pub with his whiskey in front of him, Tseng was having quite the inner battle with himself.
During his travels, he also came across very different looking people and creatures alike, not to mention having a conversation with a Tonberry. The look of the man speaking didn't startle him, nor was he one to stare either. It was more the things he was saying that peaked Tseng's attention. He had been pulled here as well, as had most of the people that Tseng had spoken to or overheard. Though this man was definitely taking the straightforward way to finding out just what was going on.
The waiter had come by and Tseng had ordered a muffin and a black coffee. He watched as the man jumped down and started to make his way towards him. At first Tseng thought the man would just walk on by, but he was proven wrong as he started to make his way towards the table Tseng was currently sitting at. The Turk didn't mind having company, there was much to learn from others.
The man ordered and then what came out of his mouth next just make Tseng chuckle. Maybe he was just trying to blend in and this was his way of doing so, Tseng wasn't going to argue against it. He was good at going with the flow, so he didn't say anything. Raising an eyebrow, he was then a little confused. "A hyur only city? I'm not certain I know what you are talking about." He had never heard of such a thing.
Tseng gave a short nod. "If you are talking about the world, it is called Zephon. How we got here is still a mystery, even for myself. This city is Provo, the main area for selling and trading wares." His knowledge was starting to come in handy and he was glad he had traveled as much as he did. Even if he didn't figure much out, he could help others. "What world have you come from?"
"First Class SOLDIERs Sephiroth, Genesis, Angeal and Zack are all here on Zephon, though only one Zack's main location is known. Cloud Strife is here, and was seen in an altercation with Sephiroth and Angeal, and both are in recovery. Tifa Lockhart is a bartender in Sonora. Yuffie Kisaragi and the Ancient Aerith have been spotted, but I have yet to find their main location. So far, those are the people from my world I have heard are here." Tseng spoke out loud as he wrote in his notepad.
To say he had been taking it easy would be the best way to describe what the Turk had been up to these days. With no assignments, he figured it would be best to just thoroughly explore every area that he could find on foot, and then find means to get to everywhere else. It had taken him quite some time, but he finally made it back to Provo, which was where he had started. Zephon was quite beautiful in areas, but like most worlds, there had been some darkness as well.
Most might say that traveling an unknown world on your own wasn't the brightest idea, but the Turk made a plan and stuck to it. He kept himself updated on his next area by asking the locals for information, and then preparing himself accordingly. He had gotten into some risky altercations a few times, but always managed to figure a way out. Along the way, he had stopped by a clinic, just to get any open wounds patched up and to check his general health. He wasn't there very long before continuing his journey.
Speaking of, the name Yuna sounded familiar. Tseng was sure he had heard it at the clinic he was at, but never met the young lady in question. He had seen some strange things during his travels, so he wasn't all that surprised to see a man addressing the town from a box. Shaking his head, Tseng crossed his arms, but kept quiet. He wasn't one to speak out in a crowd. Looking over, he noticed a small cafe and decided to take a seat outside, waiting for a waiter to spot him and take his order.
When the Tonberry gave a nod, it seemed that he either did not have the information Tseng had told him, or had heard it before but didn't mind hearing it again. He noticed that his companion for the hayride seemed to have lost himself in his thoughts, and Tseng did not blame him. This new place was a lot to take in, and if it hadn't been for the Turks extensive training, Tseng wouldn't have a clue what to do. Luckily for him, he was trained very well and could adapt very quickly. He didn't mind helping others either, even if he could come off like he didn't want to talk to anyone. It was just how he looked.
When the Tonberry spoke, there was determination in his voice, and Tseng had to admire him for that. He didn't know much about the Tonberries, but he figured they moved with purpose, set on one goal. The next statement confirmed that. "I will keep an eye out and if I come across them, I will do my best to locate you as well." Tseng wasn't sure he would be able to help the Tonberry, but there was no harm in keeping an eye out regardless.
Giving a nod at the information the Tonberry gave, Tseng realized it made sense. They could talk, but most decided not to. "You are correct. It seems people aren't different here, but some have lost their purpose. They are lost and confused now, looking for the next step." Being ripped from your home and tossed somewhere else could have lasting effects on some, and he hoped they got the help they needed.
"I seek out information, it is something I know how to do and I am good at. I travel to different places, listen in on what I can and gather all the information about people and places that I am able to. This way, I'm rarely caught off guard and know where my next step is." Just like a Turk, always at the ready.
When the Tonberry stated he had yet to find them here, Tseng gave a nod. "I see. Well I haven't been here long myself, but I have learned that the people from your home aren't promised to be here." Tseng may be something the Tonberry already knew, but it didn't hurt to say it otherwise. Having the same knowledge told to you was never a bad thing, it was good to make sure someone knew the information.
Information came to Tseng pretty well, mostly due to the fact that he sought out information like a moth to a light. That didn't mean Tseng was never misinformed or lacked the information needed. He knew he wasn't perfect, but he tried to avoid situations like that as best he could. He liked to know what was going on.
The Tonberry spoke again, and Tseng gave a nod. "You are correct, I only recently arrived here." The next statement had Tseng turning his attention to his current companion. "I am human, and I can. I will admit, I don't recall ever having a conversation with your species. I apologize if I'm out of line, but are you all able to talk?" He avoided mentioning that people weren't too fond of approaching or being approached by a Tonberry, which was something he assumed was known.
"You have a point, yes. It seems people are just going where their feet lead them here with no clear reason." Looking off into the distance, Tseng gave a nod. "I have found one person from where I am from. I'm not actively looking for any of them, but I wouldn't be mad if I were to find more." Though Reno got on his nerves a lot, finding the red head would be a delight, along with his partner Rude. He had to admit, he missed his Turks.
Tseng had been glad to see that the cart was being pulled by chocobos. It was a familiar creature to see in such a different world; a relaxing feeling. Coming to a new world didn't scare Tseng, he adapted well to most everything. There was a part of him that was unsure, though he wasn't quite sure of what. Was he unsure of the people around him, or unsure of his future here? Maybe it was a little bit of both, as they both had something to do with each other.
Nodding as the Tonberry spoke, his expression suddenly changed to confusion. The people he was looking for sounded like an odd bunch. Tseng wasn't one to judge, or really be concerned about what people looked like in this world, but it still seemed a little odd, especially for a Tonberry to be asking about such people. He seemed safe enough, but Tseng wasn't about let his guard down, especially after that question.
"No, I don't believe I have. Have you found them before, or have you just arrived and are looking for them?" If he had just arrived, there was a chance who he was looking for might not even be here. He had only found Cissnei from his own world after all, so the people one once knew weren't promised to be here.
The question asked had Tseng looking off into the distance. "How else would one find their way around a place they no nothing about?" Treading into unknown and new territory was nothing new to Tseng, he did it quite often when he was with the Turks. Jobs were jobs, no matter what their location was.
