Cissnei was angry and she had every right to be. She spoke the truth and to be honest, Tseng should feel angry as well. The fact was, he didn't. He really didn't feel anything these days. Between everything that happened on Gaia, to being thrown into this new world, he was quite blank. He had been a part of the plate dropping on Sector Seven slums, taken Aerith to Hojo himself, what good person did those things? Sure, Hojo had done worse, but his own hands were dirty as well.
Instead of responding, he let her say what she needed to. Sometimes people needed to let everything out, and he was allowing her to do just that. They weren't monsters, they were nothing like Hojo, but they weren't saints. He couldn't point fingers when there were ones pointing right back at him. He could hear her hiss and set her cup down, and guessed that she had spilled some on herself. He stayed standing in the kitchenette though, arms crossed while leaning against the counter with his eyes closed.
It wasn't that they didn't see eye to eye on this, he agreed with everything she said. The intense feelings on the matter is where they had their differences, and it was no fault to either of them. He wanted to feel as she did, he wanted to hate the man, he wanted to think the things he did weren't that bad. He just couldn't. Tseng couldn't feel anything.
As soon as Cissnei placed her hands on her hips, Tseng knew he was in for it. He didn't blame her one bit, and to be honest, he should be feeling the same way. He had for a while, but realized there was nothing he could do about it. Constantly thinking about did nothing, and neither did staying mad at the person who did it. Did Tseng think Hojo was a great person? Not in the slightest. He didn't care for the person Hojo was, but tolerated him due to the skills he did have and his ability to keep his Turks alive.
Cissnei was shaking, and honestly, Tseng hated seeing her like this. He hated seeing any of his Turks worked up like this. He let her go on though, seeing as that was the only thing he really could do. He stood there with his arms crossed, and let her yell at him. Honestly, it was definitely an interesting experience. None of his Turks had ever yelled at him like this, nor had he ever yelled at them to be honest.
When she brought up the First Class SOLDIERS, he held up a finger. "I have to say, I don't think this Hojo is the same one we knew before we departed Gaia." The thought had occured to him on the way here, but he knew it wouldn't make a difference to her. "He mentioned nothing of Cloud or Zack, or whatever he had called them. I think this Hojo is from some time before they had gone missing. Exactly when he was taken from Gaia is unknown to me." Not that this would help much.
He knew he couldn't change what she was feeling, and he would never want to. "I understand your frustration, but you have to realize that we aren't the best people either Cissnei." They would never be as horrible as Hojo was, but they weren't without faults either. "Have you ever stopped to think about the families of the people we've killed? We do it because we're told to, we don't have a choice. That doesn't make it any better. Hojo is ten times worse, I won't deny that."
Cissnei was then stepping out of the kitchen and Tseng sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose. He knew she was right, boy did he know that. From a young age, Tseng had been told that feelings just get in the way. As someone with no family around, Tseng took that to heart. He watched what happend with Vincent, with Veld. Family and love did that, which Tseng had neither. Yes, his Turks were like his family, but even then, he wouldn't let it show how it effected him if something were to happen to them. He would move on. Some would call that a flaw, and perhaps they were right.
Cissnei's response to what he had said had Tseng watching her as he was thinking the same thing. The two had started with Shinra at very young ages, so having this freedom was indeed a strange concept to them. Her voice tore him from his own thoughts and he gave her a wink. "Perhaps this world needs a little danger to it." To be quite honest, there was a chance there had been some excitement around Zephon that had happened before he arrived, or maybe some place he had yet to see. Though, he was sure he had been everywhere.
Tseng wasn't surprised to see Cissnei's reaction to hearing that Hojo was there. He knew he should feel the same way, but he had pushed his feelings aside for so long that they seemed permanently locked away now. What the man did was terrible, but Tseng never had the change to dwell on it. He had shut his feelings down in order to move forward with his Turks and think about the next step. Feeling were something Tseng never really learned to deal with, and his occupation didn't help.
It came to his realization that she had asked him a question as well. "He had to get samples from me, though I wouldn't let him have a tooth. He was the doctor for the Turks back on Gaia, so I thought it would be best it stay that way since he knows the things we do, and will treat us with no questions asked." Mostly due to the fact that Hojo didn't care what the Turks did, but that was besides the point. If he wanted to remain in good health, then this was the sacrifice he would have to make.
Of course, Tseng didn't expect Cissnei to do the same, and she might already have her own physician. Looking her over, he realized that she was squeezing her arms pretty tight. Setting down his mug, he walked over to her and put his hands on her arms. "I know what you're thinking, but we can't dwell on the past Cissnei, especially now. We have to move forward." He knew that wasn't what she wanted to hear, but it was the truth.
Finding out he had misread what she was asking, he chuckled a little bit. "There's no hurry, just curious is all. I have all the time in the world now." Currently Tseng had nothing to occupy his time. Harvested diamond dust? That was interesting. To be quite honest, he was glad to hear that. Draining the planet would not have been his first choice for energy, so living somewhere that wasn't slowly dying was a positive change of pace. Of course, he never could voice his opinions on the company he worked for, so he simply did his job and that was that.
"I've been here about two months now. I've been traveling, listening in on conversations and just getting to know places. Oh, I also found Hojo. That was enlightening." There was a slightly amused look on Tseng's face when he mentioned Hojo. His knowledge of the doctor when they were on Gaia was only information he heard and the little he knew from being in the mans lab. Those visits were short as Hojo was the one to patch up the Turks and send them on their way again, no questions asked. So, Tseng didn't mind the man.
Tseng had to smile when she stated she kicked people out of their home, then gave a nod to what she said. "That it is. One would expect us to be relieved, to be able to live a normal life." What people didn't understand, was that they would never be able to. The things they had done, things they had seen. You can't just wipe that with a change of worlds. They were trained most of their lives for the way they lived, and nothing was going to change.
Taking his mug, he gave her a devilsh smirk. "Maybe that's what I want you to think Cissnei." She would know that was a lie, but it was nice to be able to mess around with someone you knew well. At her next statement, he raised his eyebrows at her. "They'd have to catch us first."
"Agreed." Tseng unfortuantely found himself here with nothing, so he could understand not having the proper resources. Yes, he was free from Shinra and what he was doing there, but with Tseng, that was all he knew. He had been trained most of life to be a Turk. If he wanted to do something else, he would have to learn something all over again. He was a quick learner, so that really wasn't a problem. He didn't want to though. He was good at what he did, so he wasn't about to change that anytime soon. He would just have to make it so he could do what he was best at.
An amused breath leaves Tseng at the doctors' response. The next thing he says doesn't surprise the Turk in the least. The continued pursuit of an experiment was something Tseng had to admire about the doctor. "I will drag them here if I have to." Which would be something most would not expect someone of Tseng's size to be able to do, but Tseng had a way of surprising people. Turning to leave, Tseng gave a small wave. "Until next time doctor." He gave the lady at the desk a wave as well as exited.
As he listened to her, he had to chuckle. "You were trained well, so it's no surprise that you're doing well at your current job." He had trained her a little bit, but nothing too serious. They grew up learning the same thing as one another, so it wasn't a surprise when people found out they worked well together. Reno and Rude came into the picture, and they complimented the team as well. The Turks were a tight group, as they should be when the did the things that they did.
Cissnei asked what the hurry was, and Tseng gave a small shrug. "I don't like not knowing where things are, or what kind of people I'm around. I want to be able to know where I'm going without having to take the time to ask for directions, especially if I was in a hurry." Also, he wanted to see the differences there was between Zephon and Gaia, and so far, there was quite the list. Technology being one, from what he could see so far anyways.
"Something small is better than nothing, you should be proud of yourself. You've done well Cissnei." He wasn't her boss anymore, so he really didn't have to be giving her praise. This was more, friend to friend now, but it came just as easily as it did when he was her boss. At first, he thought it was going to be difficult to tranisition between being in charge to being, well, nothing. Maybe it would be nice to be able to blend into the background a little better. Now, he didn't have to worry about his team, though he knew he still would.
When she asked what his plans were, he uncrossed his arms and put his palms on the counter behind him, leaning against them. "Well, I guess I don't really have a plan right now, as odd as that is to say. I'm still figuring things out, so I guess time will tell." Shaking his head, he had to admit there wasn't anything catching his eye. "I've only heard a few things that interested me, but nothing too major. Just some small crimes here and there." People talking about being cheated on, or robberies that had happened. All things that were simple to a Turk.
Tseng gave a small shrug at her question. "Hard to say. I just remember infiltrating a house. I turned around at a noise and was hit by something, then awoke here. I'm sure I had it coming though. I was tracking someone down who would have made a decent Turk, and I guess I was right." No one, not even Tseng, was perfect. He made mistakes as well, and letting his guard down for even a moment had been one of them. He wasn't even sure if he was killed or just knocked out enough to wake up here.
The meteor fall. That had happened just shortly before his end. How had she been here so much longer than that? Time seemed to be irrelevant here, passing as quickly or slowly as it wanted to. That was good to know, so he would be sure to ask anyone he knew from Gaia when they were "pulled" and how long they had been there. "It took quite the amount of people with it, though it could have been much worse." He looked over at her. "My life on Gaia ended shortly after that incident. I didn't even hear you had been swept away in it."
Giving a small chuckle, he nodded. "Yes we do." If they wanted to take these problems head on, it wouldn't hurt to try to find the others, Reno and Rude to start with, followed by Elena and Rufus. Looking down as her hand grabbed his tie, he suddenly felt very warm. At the tug, he looked up at her, intensity in his eyes. She was right, in a way. He had given her no reason to question what he wanted done, but it still wasn't all on her. To make quick of the banter they seemed to be having, he brought a hand to her cheek. "Apology accepted. It's time to move on."
Watching as she turned to walk away, Tseng took a deep breath before following her. Giving a nod when she showed him where something was, he had to give a smile at the stock of food she had. Old habits really did die hard. "Ah, Turk specialties. The quicker you can make it, the better." One thing that had taken him a bit to get used to was eating either extremely hot food quickly, or eating extremely cold food hours later when you finally returned to it. Cold food wasn't bad, but his mouth had been burnt a few times with the hot food.
"I'm not really hungry at the moment, but tea sounds wonderful." He had just eaten before arriving to see her, but Tseng wasn't one to turn down tea. He made his way around the little kitchen area, memorizing where things were quickly. Leaning against one of the counters, he crossed his arms. "It's a cozy space, I'll give you that. Ready to see the rest when you are." Tseng had definitely stayed in worse, and he was well aware she had too. Where they were now was cozy, so he wasn't concerned about the size.
Hojo explained what he would need and Tseng nodded. It wasn't a surprise to the Turk of what Hojo needed from him, and he had volunteered to do it knowing that fact as well. A small smile crossed Tseng's face. "Well we don't seem to be in a lab of any sort, so it was safe to assume those options would not factor into this." Tseng probably wouldn't even say no to those, as you only really need on kidney, and the liver can regenerate itself. Though healing from that was something Tseng wouldn't look forward to.
"How does that saying go? 'You don't appreciate what you have until it's gone', or something like that. We didn't realize that we were well off at Shinra. Pity. Starting from scratch isn't all bad, once you have the resources." Palmer was one of the directors Tseng had never really met, and he wasn't really sure why he even had his own department, so Tseng just gave a nod.
At the mention of his Turks, Tseng raised an eyebrow. He listened as he talked about the Public Safety department, lips pursed. It wasn't a surprise that someone from the medical department wasn't keen on the department that was based on physical force and combat to solve problems. "To each their own." Tseng knew Hojo was dedicated to his research, and that was why he was considered crazy by quite a lot of people. Tseng had met many people in his life, and also investigated many types of people as well.
Hojo mentioned someone who was insistent on honor, and Tseng had to assume that person was Angeal and he chuckled. He had never met the First Class SOLDIER in person, but heard he was actually the more level headed of them all. Genesis was smart, but yes, there was talk that he was a little full of himself and liked to recite 'Loveless' everywhere he went. The First Class SOLDIERs were definitely an assortment of personalities, but they seemed to make it work.
Moving his next appointment to a later time, Tseng had to smile a little bit at his persistance to get things done. "I'm afraid bone fragment might have to wait as I was not prepared for an extensive appointment." He wasn't going to give up a tooth, that was for sure. He knew Hojo knew that, and gave him a small smile to let him know he was kidding about the bigger stuff. Giving a small nod, Tseng headed into the bathroom. Within ten minutes, Tseng was back in the room. "I left the containers in there, will that be all?" That was the usual for appointments, right? Just leaving the container.
Tseng had been in Zephon for a bit now, and he was making some progress gathering information. Since he was currently staying in Cissnei's work building, that made it a lot easier to keep information stored somewhere so he didn't have to carry it on him all the time. Plus, being able to talk to her often was great for gathering information. After taking a shower, he decided to change it up a little. It was cold out, so he had to take that into consideration as well.
He had decided on some black jeans with a red t-shirt and a leather jacket to go over it. Not much different from his all black suit from before, but to him it was different and that was all that mattered. Heading into a tavern in Torensten, he took a seat at the bar. There was a musician on stage, so he ordered himself a whiskey on the rocks and listened in.
Tseng wasn't too much of a music fan, but he could appreciate a good tune. The man on stage did well, and Tseng found himself enjoying the sound. It seemed as though he wasn't the only one, as mulitiple people approached the musician when he got off stage. The man was then at the bar, getting a drink from the bartender that would help his throat. "Good evening. That was a great performance you put on. How long have you been doing this?"
Tseng took another drink as he listened to her explain. When she mentioned earlier years, his head turned towards her again. Years? How long has she been here? Well, well. It seemed as they were pulled here to help. "Nothing sounds like a call for help like pulling people from their world at the brink of death." They were done a favor by getting to live, so seems like they were supposed to owe something.
The laugh that came from Cissnei made Tseng shiver, but not in a bad way. That reaction from himself confused him a little, and he thought that maybe the alcohol was getting to him, though he had not drank much. At her comment, he chuckled as well. "The light is the last thing we carry, I don't think this world quite knew what it was doing." They could add more fire to the fuel rather than helping it. Her question made him think. "Who knows. Maybe there was conflict somewhere, which would make your assumption of us being pawns correct at least."
Hearing her voice get quiet, Tseng looked to his glass. If he had just told her what was going on, this all could have been avoided. He wanted Zack and Cloud to be brought to him specifically so he could put them into hiding while they healed. "If I know Zack the way I think I do, he will do just fine now that you've shown him the way." Zack may not have been the smartest guy he knew, but he knew how to communicate with others and defend himself. Tseng's eyes snapped to Cissnei. "There will be none of that. It was my fault, I am the one who holds the blame."
Giving a nod, Tseng took another small drink. "You may not know what it is yet, but yes. Everything happens for a reason." That was the way life went. You made mistakes to learn from them, you succeeded to learn from that as well. Cissnei started to leave, and Tseng grabbed her wrist. "I shall come with you. If I am going to be staying here, it would be best to know where everything is." He stood up as he let go of her wrist, setting his drink down as well. Turning his gaze to her, he gave her a half smile, half smirk, waiting for her to lead the way.
