Genesis said he would have handled it fine. In comparison to what had actually happened, he was right. Still, Zack would have freaked out as well, just in a different way. He would've ran to the others for help, arms flailing with lots of yelling. If it would have been him, the others would have helped, probably. They would have been on the case, instead of chaos happening. "I guess.." Fine wasn't the word he would have used, but the point was still made.
Scratching the back of his head again, Zack gave a sheepish grin. "He was a little less out of it when I gave it to him. I guess I thought that would be better than leaving it there?" That was really the only explanation Zack could give. He didn't blame Genesis for asking, it was Angeal's sword after all, and there was great meaning behind it. He hoped Cloud used it well.
Zack's eyes went wide. "He does? Well, that's odd" So there was three Buster Swords roaming around? He honestly wasn't sure how Angeal would feel about that, or the fact that he had given it to Cloud in the end. Also, the condition it was in was probably far from new. He himself had used it against the Shinra military, it had shielded many bullets. There was no rust though, so that was good..
"Right! Sorry, habit." Genesis was right, Shinra was in the past now. He wasn't sure what it was going to be like now. In the past, everything had been about training and fighting. Now, there wasn't a company to work for, no wars to fight. There was just, them. They could hang out. Did they know how to do that? Genesis started to walk off and Zack followed, giving a small smile at the Loveless quote. It was good to be with someone he knew.
As she explained the events, Zack listened. It sounded pretty cool to him actually. "That's a really cool way to do it, I wonder if they have something like that here." It sounded like a really cool training event as well as one to show off personal skills. "We had simulation rooms to train with, but facing off with others in front of people sounds more fun." If you were being watched, you'd want to prove yourself not only to your trainers, but other people as well. A lot more pressure, but a lot more experience as well.
"I guess a sense of adventure. I don't really like to stay in one spot for too long, and going on a long journey isn't anything new to me." At least this time he wasn't on the run while escorting another person who was out of it. Her next statement made him beam. "That's what I'm hoping! I've found one other from my own world, and I'm always game to meet other people. So I'm on the move!" He made a mental note to try to tone it down around people he didn't know, but the thought of finding his friends was exciting!
The tour guide started talking, and even though he said they tasted terrible, Zack had to stop himself from wanting to go and eat one. It was one of those 'don't knock it until you try it' things. He had been one of those kids that picked the wrong fruit and regretted it, once or twice. Back then, he wondered why people would still grow things like that if it tasted terrible, but the tour guides next statement answered the question he had. That made sense.
As people started to unload, he waited. When it was just her and Lady Hilda left, he got off and offered a hand to her with a smile. "Ready to go taste some cider? One of the events of my past festivals I was not allowed to take part in." The infamous Zack Fair smile was plastered on his face. He was pretty excited for this.
Zack watched as the blonde lowered his pistols, and he let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding. So far, so good. The guns weren't quite put away, but Zack didn't blame him. He had the Buster Sword ready at all times as well. Though, the size of it made it a little more difficult to just pull it out quickly, so the blonde had the advantage there. The Buster Sword made a decent shield against bullets, but just how skilled was the man in front of him? Zack wanted to know, but didn't want a fight to be the way to figure it out.
When he was asked what he was looking for, Zack scratched at the back of his head. "Well, at first I was lost until I saw a sign that said I was in Provo. Then I saw this place, and my plan was to see if I could make it past the guards. Which I obviously did, and then you showed up." There was also the part when the blonde had said that a sword like his had done some of this damage, but he wasn't going to tell him that. If he knew Zack could know who did this, it might not end well.
It seemed the man was either nervous, or. Wait, yeah that was only explanation that Zack could come up with because it made sense. He was talking a bit more, and he kept saying things and then taking them back. Honestly, he was a lot like Zack when he was around Sephiroth or sometimes either Lazard. Those guys were pretty intimidating. Not that he was saying he himself was intimidating, but the situation was interesting here.
"I can assure you I'm not up to anything. I'm pretty new here and everything is pretty interesting to be honest." Zack had always loved exploring, and had gotten himself into situations such as these before, though he couldn't remember one off the top of his head. "Name's Zack Fair. Yours?" Well, at least they could get on a first name basis now. Though, he was starting to think they should probably leave the area before someone heard them...
There really wasn't much that didn't make Zack happy. He was one to enjoy everything life had to offer. Even when he and Cloud were on the run, he still found ways to keep the mood light, even if the blonde couldn't hear him. He liked to believe his words made it through anyways, even though he was probably wrong. Zack didn't mind though, he liked being the one people could go to for a pick-me-up. He was a very good listener, even if sometimes he didn't have the best advice to offer.
When the woman answered him, he gave a nod. "Mine too." He listened as she told him about her home and he raised his eyebrows. "Oh wow, that sounds interesting. Did anyone ever get hurt?" That reminded him of when he would train with Angeal, and hear about when the other three trained together. Of course it was mostly all simulation, but there were still injuries.
"Yeah, me too. I've been staying in Torensten, but I decided to take a chance and see other places." The way she was sitting and speaking, he was starting to think she was from a high class family. Of course, he wasn't going to say anything about it. He just had to act cool and not say anything stupid. Of course, that was something Zack had a hard time doing sometimes.
Looking out into the orchards, he gave a small smile. "It reminds me of my home. We had hay rides like this all the time. They would take us to the farms to get food, or out to visit friends on their lands. The town wasn't very big, but a lot of the people lived on the outskirts. When festivals or any other gatherings would happen, the town would be packed. It was crazy." It was nice to remember a time before his world got turned upside down.
When Genesis stated they all deserved a punch from him, Zack went to protest he wouldn't hit any of them once again, but stopped himself. Zack knew that Genesis wasn't one to admit he was wrong, or anything close to that. Looking down, Zack kicked a small rock he saw on the ground. "It wasn't your fault. I don't know how I wouldn't handled what you guys went through." Zack would honestly just hide how he was feeling under a mask of smiles and jokes until he couldn't anymore.
Shaking his head, he stared at Genesis. "Yeah, I really don't want to be around for that. Again." He liked Sephiroth and all, but he wasn't looking forward to watching all that happen again. If he had to, he would step in of course. Genesis seemed to be doing okay here, so maybe there was a chance that things wouldn't end up the same as they had before. Maybe with him and Angeal around, it would be different.
The snarky comment put a small smile on Zack's face. It was the Genesis he knew. To some, it would seem that Genesis really didn't like Zack at all. To the people who knew him, that was just how he was. True, Zack would be the one to push him too far, but that didn't happen often. "I mean, maybe? You should've seen 'em Gen. They kept popping out of nowhere! Then I handed Cloud the Buster Sword so he could carry on the legacy, but somehow I still have it?" That part still confused him. How did he still have it?
Even Gen's reaction couldn't take the excitement Zack was feeling away. There was no way he wouldn't be excited to see Angeal again, and a sane Sephiroth! Well, mostly sane anyways. None of them were normal, but that was how it was. Mako infused still seemed to be a thing here, which Zack was both happy and not happy with. It would've been nice to go back to being normal here, but having the mako enhancements were still pretty cool.
"Hm. Well I'm sure I could find something that everyone can at least agree on. Maybe. Hopefully." He himself could watch just about anything. If it was boring, he could let his mind wander and make it interesting in his own way! Genesis then said he could take him to the other two, and if Zack was a teenage girl, there would have been squealing. "I'm ready when you are boss!" That statement was true, Genesis technically was his superior.
Zack had good intentions at heart, he really did. How he executed them was another story. Of course he didn't look where he was going on his way to helping the lady into the cart, but there was no harm done, so he figured he was safe. He was thanked with a smile and he gave a nod. "It was my pleasure." First impressions were everything, at least to some people. Though Zack knew how to take a bad first impression and turn it around as well. You'd be hard pressed to find someone who really did not like him. Even Genesis didn't absolutely hate him.
Taking a seat across from her, a smile never left his face. It was just like he was back in Gongaga, take a hay ride to go out to some of the fields to farm food for the month. Everything brought back fond memories, from the bumpy road to the questionable smells. The only difference was that Zack was now too big to be able to just run around on the cart and he had to sit down. That didn't stop him from moving his head and upper body around to make sure he was able to look at everything he could.
The tour guide began talking and Zack listened in. He was going to taste the alcohol this time! When he was younger, he was definitely not able to do that. He would have to remind himself to take it easy though, he didn't want to go too hard in front of all these people. Looking over to the lady he had helped, he noticed she wasn't talking to anyone. "Is this your first festival here?"
Zack knew some people just didn't like talking to people they didn't know, but how could you get to know someone if you didn't talk to them? That was his theory anyways. Zack was the perfect person to have a conversation with, unless you were talking about science or anything like that. Then he was at a loss but would certainly try his best.
Now, Zack hadn't even thought that the man in front of could be armed. He didn't see any weapons, but Zack knew he should know better than that. So, when the blonde shrieked, Zack only had a smile on his face about it for a moment, before realizing that he now had guns pointed at him. Well, at least it was only one person, not a whole army. Zack threw his hands up, showing he wasn't about to attack the guy. "Hey now, I'm not gonna hurt you. Just having some fun is all." This was going well.
The question he asked was answered, and then turned back around on him. "Oh, yeah. I guess I probably did look a little odd sneaking in here, huh?" Looking around, Zack realized he didn't really have a good answer for the question. He really didn't have a good reason for being in here, so he probably would still end up looking suspicious. He had really dug himself a whole with all of this. "Well, uh. I just thought it looked interesting." He didn't get to say much else before the blonde continued on.
Well, it looked like the Buster Sword had been recognized. Zack was confused though. Someone else with a big sword? Was he saying it was the same sword though? There would only be two others that could possibly have the same sword, and the last time he had seen either of them, neither was in a state to do this much damage in a fight. Then again, they could have been pulled from a time in their lives where they were still able to fight.
Zack didn't have too much time to think anymore about it because the blonde was still going. He seemed a little nervous, since he was talking so much. Then again, Zack could talk a lot at times too. "Look, I know it all seems suspicious, but I swear I didn't do any of this. I only know a few people here, and none of them are people I wanna fight. I'm just here looking around." Would the guy believe him? Well, he sure hoped so.
The SOLDIERs all each seemed to play a role. Zack was the upbeat one, always trying to keep the mood light. Angeal was the responsible one, the one that thought before he acted and tried to keep everyone out of trouble. Genesis was the one that was trouble, he liked to just act and get things done however he saw fit. Sephiroth was calm one who didn't speak much, but he worked hard and kept out of the drama of the others but could put a stop to any arguing. How they all ended up in the top of the SOLDIER ranks was a mystery, but they were.
Hearing Genesis sigh was actually calming to Zack, as he heard it quite often back on Gaia. Neither of them had changed, and Zack was glad for that. When Genesis spoke next, Zack looked at the ground. Angeal always thought of others before himself, except for one time. Snapping his head back up, Zack's eye went wide. "I would never punch him! Or any of you for that matter. That's not my style." True, what Angeal had put him through had been hell, but what Angeal himself had been going through had also been hell. It was a tough situation.
When Genesis warned Zack about Sephiroth, Zack just blinked a few times. "You're telling me that Sephiroth doesn't remember anything? Oh wow, well I guess that's probably for the best. I'll act as though nothing happened!" This could be a good thing, as Sephiroth would be just like he wanted to remember as, the calm, cool Silver General he looked up to. Nibelheim had been a nightmare, and everything after were things Zack wanted to forget. Why couldn't he have gotten amnesia, at least for that part?
Let's be honest, Zack had forgotten that Genesis didn't know what had happened to him due to Shinra's actions. "Uh yeah, that. Apparently since we escaped and could expose Shinra, they had us hunted down. Luckily I hid Cloud, but I couldn't avoid the ambush that was waiting. So I took them on. It went on for a while before they just kept coming and in the end, they got me." Zack hated to admit that he had lost, he was a First Class SOLDIER after all. Zack scratched the back of his head. "Uh, yeah. Sorry about that." He wasn't sure if he was saying sorry for killing Genesis or sorry for dying shortly after.
Watching Genesis, Zack hoped that he wasn't really that mad. An angry Genesis was terrifying, and even though Zack had defeated him once, Genesis had been weakened at the time due to his degradation. He wasn't sure he could take him on again. Another Loveless quote came out of Gen's mouth and Zack understood only the last line, and figured it was somewhat directed at him. Genesis stated they all lived together and Zack instantly smiled. "You're all living together!? That's perfect, we'll have to have movie nights!"
Zack could hear confusion in the blondes voice and he gave a smirk. Mind you, he knew that what he was doing could be dangerous, but he could handle it. He was a trained SOLDIER after all. If he couldn't handle some falling rocks, then he should give up the Buster Sword now and burn his uniform. Though, after all that happened, he should burn it anyways. That was besides the point though. Right now, it was time for a game of cat and mouse.
Now Zack knew better than to go really high up, so he stayed close to the middle of the opening in the building, hiding behind things, and walking as quietly as he could. Yes, that in fact was pretty hard for him to do, but it was worth it for the chase. Zack could hear the man talking, but he couldn't really figure out what he was saying. He knew he was coming off as crazy, as it happened quite often for him. He just like living life to the fullest, what harm could come of that?
From his hiding spot, he could see the other man starting to climb, and he smiled. Truth be told, Zack just wanted to see what this guy was made of. Not that it would change anything, Zack would still talk to him and maybe be his friend. Having someone he could train with or go on adventures with would be great, so this was like an interview of sorts. The guy wasn't doing too bad!
The blonde made it to the first level, then stated that attacking him from behind would be dangerous. Zack smirked as he quietly snuck down and stepped lightly under he was behind the blonde. "I won't attack you, but that won't stop me from spooking you! So, um, boo!" He made sure to stay close just in case he really did scare the guy and he ended up jumping and falling off. Zack could catch him from here.
At the mention of the place being unstable, Zack looked around. "You're probably right, but it seems to be holding pretty well for now." He looked over at the blonde with a smile on his face. "Name's Zack, Zack Fair. What brings you over here anyways?" Like he had any room to talk about being in weird places, doing weird things. This was Zack after all, nothing he did made much sense.
There was a festival, and Zack was pretty excited for it to begin. He had attended things like this before, both while working and not. Gongaga festivals were some of his favorite memories, and he was ready to have more. Deciding that his SOLDIER uniform wasn't really going to blend in, he decided to just go with a grey v-neck shirt and a pair of black slacks. Lacing up his boots, he made sure the Buster Sword was put away before heading out to Provo.
Over the last few months, Zack had finally figured out how to get from town to town, but still hadn't really learned what all was in each town, so he did get a bit lost trying to find where the festival was. When he finally found it, a smile emerged onto his face. It looked amazing and definitely reminded him of Gongaga. The music, the children running around, though the goats were new, and he had to resist the urge to try to pet them.
Though, what he couldn't resist was the petting zoo, and he didn't even care that he looked very odd being surrounded by children. Animals were amazing creatures, not to mention quite a bit of them were very soft. Who wouldn't want to pet them!? After a bit, he left the petting zoo and ended up heading towards the orchard. So there was cider tasting here? He never got to alcohol tasting in Gongaga due to always being too young, so this was his chance!
Fishing out some money, he paid the fee and walked over to the cart that they would be riding on, and once again had to resist the urge to pet the animal, this time being the chocobo that was putting the cart. He noticed a blonde woman heading towards the cart as well and hurried to get there before her, holding his hand out with a smile, intending on helping her up. He was raised to be a gentleman after all.
