Zack was having a pretty good time in the rubble, which showed by the smile on his face as he jumped from one nearly collapsed part to another, seeing just how long he could keep it up before it caved out from underneath him. Did he think about that result? Not at all, those thoughts were for people who worried too much. You can't have fun if you're thinking into the future and not thinking about the present. Stress causes wrinkles. Or was that frowning? Either way, Zack tried not to do either, and it showed.
Though he did almost fall when he heard a voice. Thinking it was just in his head, he continued on. Then he heard it again, someone asking if anyone was there. "No, not at all!" He couldn't be found! They would make him leave, and quite possibly arrest him. Then again, yelling back probably gave him away so that probably wasn't the smartest idea. Making his way to a pile of rubble, he hid behind it and tried to find where the voice was coming from.
As he finally found it, he smiled. The guy didn't look like any of the official people he had seen outside, so to him, it was a good sign. Deciding that he shouldn't take any chances, he backed up out of view. "If you wanna get me, you gotta find me!" Climbing up the rubble might not have been a smart move, but to him it was a great way to escape for the moment. He had the advantage at the moment, being much higher up than the new blonde that looked weirdly enough like Cloud.
Wait, could that be his friend? He looked about the right height, but the voice didn't match at all. His attire was different, but Zack had only seen his friend in Shinra uniforms so that wasn't much help. The spiky hair was a little different as well, so he wasn't really that hopeful. Still, a little game was what his mind was on at the moment. Was it dangerous? Oh most definitely. Was it fun? Also yes.
Angeal was alive. Or well, as alive as one could be after being pulled her instead of dying. The whole deal with this world was confusing to Zack, but was that a surprise? This was a man of little thought process and all puppy persona. It took everything in him not to run off to Torensten to start yelling "Aaaaangeal." in hopes that he would just show up out of nowhere. Some part of him knew that he needed to calm down before facing his former mentor. There was a lot to unpack with what he had to tell Angeal.
Like the fact that he was here because of Shinra. The military had shot him and now he was here living a second life. Oh, also that he had not only killed him but also Genesis? Who knows what happened to Sephiroth. Well, people knew but he didn't. He was never really close to the Silver General, so it wasn't surprising that he wasn't sure where he had gone off to. It was pretty cool to know they were all here though!
Crap. He was lost again. At least this time he was in a town it seemed, so that was a plus. A sign said 'Provo' and he smiled. He was slowly learning his way around! Though, he wasn't sure he was excited to be here as he saw some buildings had been through the ringer. Heading over to the area, he noticed that there were quite the numbers of official looking people.
Did that stop Zack Fair? Not at all. Buster Sword safely on his back, Zack smirked. Waiting until the ones patrolling were heading in another direction or talking with one another, he quickly made his way into a destroyed building next to the big one and dipped down. At the next opening, he jumped out and ran over to the ruins. Finally getting inside, he looked around. "Man, what happened here?"
Anyone who knew Zack knew an adult with the energy of a child and endless positivity. That's how he liked to be. He liked being someone people felt happy being around. Most of the time, he was naturally like that. Though, not at all times. The last years he had on Gaia had made it hard to keep up his upbeat demeanor, but he did so for Cloud. Though the blonde had been out of it most of the time, Zack wanted to make sure his friend never felt scared or worried. Inside though, Zack was fighting.
When Genesis admitted that he only wanted to stop his degradation, Zack looked down at the ground. He knew that. Angeal had been doing the same, but decided to just put an end to it, and had Zack do it for him. "I know. You both did." He never blamed the two SOLDIERs for anything that had happened. It wasn't their fault and they were just trying to become normal. Well, as normal as they could be as SOLDIERs. None of them were normal, they were enhanced humans after all.
At his next words, Zack looked back at Genesis. "I was hoping it wouldn't be." Realizing that his choice of words could have made it seem like he was hoping it wasn't just he and Genesis and that it could be taken wrong, he threw up his hands. "Not that I don't want that. It's just that, I'd like to see everyone is all." The fact that Zack was probably already giving Genesis a headache could be a good sign, it meant they could maybe go back to the way things were before. Just maybe.
Genesis was right, Zack probably would run off at the confirmation of Angeal being there. "No I wouldn't! I, uh, don't really know my way around this new world that well yet." That was a main reason, but he also wouldn't want to be rude and just run off from Genesis after seeing him for the first time since leaving him in Banora.
Loveless was spoken again, and Zack actually somewhat understood what the words meant. Though, he wasn't sure what it meant for this situation, but it didn't sound pleasant. Zack's eyes widened when Genesis said he had been her for over a year. "A year!? But it wasn't that long ago I left Banora with Cloud just to be gunned down by Shinra." He had heard that people were "pulled" from different times and all that, but to actually come across the situation was a whole different thing.
"Uh, no I don't. I actually live in Torensten as well. I'm staying in a little inn. I help the landlady with projects as part of my rent fee. It really helped when I first got here." He could probably pay her for the room in full now, but he didn't mind continuing to help her still. Genesis had said we, and Zack looked up at the sky. It was sounding like Angeal was here after all.
Zack had not been around Genesis enough to be able to memorize Loveless, and let's be honest, he wouldn't of been able to anyways. The whole thing was a confusing mess to Zack, so he never really paid much attention to it. What he did know though, was to never insult it. Not in front of Genesis anyways. He had learned that lesson from Angeal, and it wasn't one he was about to forget. When Genesis spoke the words from his favorite book, Zack gave a nod. "Uh yeah. I agree." Was really all he could come up with. He did give himself a mental pat on the back for at least saying something though.
Genesis stated that he didn't have to lie, and Zack was about to argue with him before Genesis spoke again. His spiky hair moved only slightly as he gave a nod. "I do mean that Genesis, it really is good to see you. And when I say you, I mean you." The last time he had seen the other First Class SOLDIER, then man definitely had not been himself. Well, not the real last time. The last time was in Banora when he left him there. Is this where he had gone after that?
Zack had felt terrible for leaving him there, but he knew Banora would be a spot that Genesis would feel at home, since it was his home after all. Then again, he had slaugtered people in that same town, so maybe that hadn't been Zack's brightest idea. Well, everything seemed to have worked out anyways, right? They were here now, no harm done! Right?
Genesis asked Zack how long he had been there. "About a month. What about y-" The second question hit Zack like brick wall. "Wh-what do you mean anyone else?" Genesis could also be looking for others as well, but the way the question was asked made Zack think that Genesis was seeing if he had been the first to see Zack. Either way, Zack was starting to have more hope that maybe he would see the others again.
Looking around, he realized he didn't recognize a single thing about where he was. Which wasn't really too shocking, since he had really only been in Torensten since he arrived here. Sighing, he put his hands on his hips. He had to admit, the place he had stumbled across was pretty, in its own way. Zack Fair had seen war, had seen his company be attacked by copies of someone he would like to think was his friend, seen his friend floating in a pod of mako, the militia of the company he worked for aiming guns at him. He had been through a lot, but still liked to look on the brighter side of things.
Speaking of seeing things, was he now staring to hear things too? Maybe he had heard Genesis quote Loveless so many times, he was starting to hear it in his head at random times as well. Hearing a foot step backwards, his name being called confirmed that he wasn't hearing things. Turning around, he saw the person to which the voice belonged to. "Genesis?"
First Class SOLDIER Rhapsodos was here. In a way, it really didn't surprise Zack. He had taken Genesis' life with his own two hands. Did that mean he had been here this entire time? Okay, so it hadn't really been that long, but that wasn't the point. The point was that he was here, standing in front of Zack, obviously in shock at seeing him. The big question in Zack's head was one that was pretty important.
Was Genesis pissed off at him? He was the reason Genesis had fallen. He was pretty sure everything ended on decent terms, since in all reality, Genesis hadn't really been himself right before everything had happened. That didn't mean he was holding a grudge. Zack wanted to go for the Buster Sword, just in case, but stopped himself. He didn't want to cause any problems when there was a chance there wouldn't be any. "Um, it's good to see you again." For once in his life, Zack really wasn't sure what to say.
The last month or so had been a bit of a blur for Zack. Cissnei had found him a place to stay for the time being, and he had been pretty busy between working for the landlady and also taking random jobs from the board Cissnei mentioned. To be fair, he probably had enough to get into an apartment, but he wanted to save up the money to pay Cissnei back as well, so he decided to stick around. The landlady was pretty happy with all the help he was doing around the place as well, and that made him happy as well. It looked a lot different from when he had first gotten there, which meant there were more guests coming to stay there. It was a win for everyone really.
There was a chance that Zack was actually trying to distract himself from what was going on. He had died. Shot down by the company he had worked for. Dedicated himself to. He didn't die though, and now was in some world. It had been a hell of a month though. From running into Aerith, to finding out Cloud was there as well and that he had found Sephiroth and Angeal. It was a lot to take in! He wanted to go see his friend, but also wanted him to heal from the battle that had taken place.
So instead, Zack decided to just explore the new world. Which, had been a terrible idea. First, he followed a cute girl, but she blew him off when he tried to talk to him. Then there was a dog he wanted to pet, but it got called away by its owner. The sun setting over a nearby lake was also a really nice view he obviously needed to go see. After walking a bit more, he was lost. Again. Did that surprise anyone? Sighing, he ran his hands through his hair. "Oh boy, not again." He muttered to what he thought was just himself...
Zack gave Doreen a quick nod. "Yes ma'am." SOLDIER wasn't the reason he had good manners, but it had helped him continue having them. Growing up, he was raised to be a gentleman. He took that to heart and was bullied for it for a little bit until he finally defended himself. That was one of the reasons he had joined SOLDIER in the first place. Sticking up for himself, and others as well, was something he was proud to do. He loved being the one people could go to for help. He wanted to be a hero.
Watching as she eyed the key, Zack smiled as she handed it to him. "I could always get you a copy, if you ever wanted to check up on me." Adding a wink, he noticed she was giving him gil as well. He honestly didn't want to take it, but he needed clothes more than he needed his pride. Reminding himself to write down how much he owed her, he stuck his tongue out at her once again with her remark to the SOLDIER smell. "It's both comforting and traumatic to remember this smell."
Cissnei was then stating she was leaving, and he wrapped his arms around her shoulders, bringing her close to him. "It was good to see you too. Thank you for everything today. I promise to pay you back, even if you won't accept it." He ruffled her hair before letting her go, giving her a wink as he ran off towards the shed Doreen pointed out. He knew she wasn't a fan of that, but hey. Zack was never one to stray away from annoying people.
Cissnei pointed out that Zack smelled better than the people in the building, and he had to agree. That didn't stop him from suddenly realizing that he may have just gotten used to his smell, and he really did smell pretty bad. The comment about new SOLDIER smell made him feel a little better, as he was still proud that he had reached his dream to become a SOLDIER, even with the ending he had gotten. He had made it, and that was still a win in his book.
Zack followed Cissnei out of the pub and everywhere they went after that. To be quite fair, he would follow her anywhere at this point in time. If he had just had that mentality before, there was a chance he wouldn't be in the mess he was in now. Then again, everything happened for a reason, right? He wasn't sure if he'd ever know why everything happened the way it did, and he knew at some point, he was going to be okay without knowing the truth.
When the reached the inn, Zack took a good look at it. It was a little run down, but he didn't mind. Gongaga had never been the most upscale place on Gaia, and this would definitely beat sleeping outside or in a mako tank. In all honesty, Zack felt at home here, it was comfortable to him.
The woman Cissnei addressed approached them and Zack gave her a smile. She seemed down to earth, and very nice. Also someone who could give you a lecture so great that your great-great-great grandkids would behave. When she asked if he could do handyman's work, Zack gave a nod. "Yes ma'am. Growing up, that was something I learned quite quickly." It was true. There weren't many professionals in Gongaga, so all the kids had to learn life necessaties at a young age.
Zack watched as Cissnei paid, feeling a little guilty about it. Of course, he knew he would do the same if the roles were reversed. He would treat her to pay her back when he was back on his feet, so that also made him feel a little bit better. When the waitress came to get the money, she was a little taken back at how fast Zack had ate. He popped the last fry in his mouth and handed the plate to her with a wink before she took off again. When he was more stable and knew what was going on, maybe he would come back her to eat again and see if she was working...
Slamming the rest of his drink with a slight grimace, he smiled up at her. "I'm ready." Zack was really glad to have found her. If he hadn't, he wouldn't have a clue what to do next or where he would go. He was a social person, so he wouldn't hesistate to ask around, but this was a whole lot easier. With the information Cissnei had given him, he was sure if he asked someone to help, they wouldn't be confused. He had to guess that it happened quite frequently around here.
When Cissnei stated she could smell him from where she was, he stuck his tougue out at her. "Hey, I don't smell that bad. The waitress wouldn't have smiled like that if me if I did, so there." Zack was a child at heart, and mentally a lot of the time. His remarks definitely showed that.
The mention of second hand stores took him back. Gongaga wasn't a place with high end things. To be honest, a lot of his clothes were second hand. "Second hand is fine by me." Shoes especially were best that way since they were already broken in. Of course, you had to be careful with some things. He made a mental note to make sure to keep track of what she was spending on him so she could pay him back. "After you, m'lady."
At her remark, Zack stuck his tongue out at her, making sure there was no food in it when he did so. "Hey! It was more like, maybe fifteen to twenty percent of the time. I got pretty good at it after a while." For some reason, the shows really caught his attention, so he was able to focus on it more. He could pay attention really well if he had to focus on something really important or something that really caught his interest. Not saying conversations didn't interest him, he just liked to be able to be doing something as well as listening.
When she mentioned she didn't know what else to do, he had to give a nod. "I get that. I don't know if I'll be able to do anything else, but it doesn't hurt to try!" Truth be told, he would be more likely to find something else to do than she would since he had been able to explore other things while working for Shinra than she was. It might take some time, but he was sure he could figure something out.
Cissnei told him there were places that let you work for your stay and Zack was pretty excited to hear that. "Oh thank Gaia. I was really wondering what I was going to do about that. I had quite a bit of money before, but it's all back at Shinra in my account or something like that. Wherever they deposited my money anyways." They never got checks, mostly because they probably didn't want the money to go missing somehow.
Zack figured Cissnei would be a little confused as to why he didn't want to keep exploring and all that. "I'm glad to hear there's one nearby as well. It's been a long five years, and I just need an energy boost, ya know? I need a good, long shower and to sleep for a bit. I'll be back to normal in no time!" Not like anyone could tell he wasn't himself since he didn't show it, but Zack was exhausted. He had been through hell and back, to be real about it. Even he was still breakable sometimes.
