Torensten was looking good! About as good as it could be, all things considered. One calamity to another, this town weathered it all. At least the damage from the tornados a while back had been repaired. Apparently there'd been some sort of magic school that he hadn't known about. It reminded him of Sharlayan back home. Granted, he'd never actually been there, but... dang, now that he thought about it; every single Scion save Tataru was an Archon there. All of them. There was a bit of a lacking balance, so to speak. Granted, he loved them to death, but really, it was only his own group that didn't have everyone from Sharlayan. That was a bit more varied; Gridania, Ul'dah, the Isle of Val, you know, regular places where regular people lived. Except for that last one. He hoped he never returned to Eureka.
He'd really just been here on a job. With the Rising Stones getting ever closer to being finished, he should probably start getting some connections to the other cities going. Sonora was going to be the tough one, he'd heard. They didn't like outsiders. So it was just Ishgard with a different coat of paint, big deal, he was a big boy and could probably deal with it. Assuming he didn't get stabbed, or shot, or poisoned (again). Yeah he was sure he could handle Sonora just fine. Probably. Although with Torensten, maybe look into that magic school, see if he couldn't get something set up? He was something of a magic user himself, so he felt that there was something he could work with. Maybe get some students willing to make their bones to come work for him or something?
Or just take jobs and get in that way, that always worked, as did getting something to drink. A quick stop to a tavern, the passing of gil, the passing of more gil when he insisted on taking the whole damn bottle because he didn't trust them to pour the drink for him. Maybe start looking for that really frilly guy he'd met when he was new to this world, wonder how he was doing. Maybe now he could actually hit him without needing the power of magic to pump him up. It'd been what, like six months? He found himself on the outside, leaning against a brick building as he stretched a little, letting himself take in some sunlight.
Alex groaned and let out a beleagured sigh. Time was not on their side. He looked at the approaching golems. Right, if they were going to have to take them out, best to just go ahead and get that done. Raising his Star Globe, he pointed to Caius, filling him with an immediate boost of energy as he fired off his Tetragrammaton. The time of the wound began to rewind. Healing from an Astrologian was always a bit different. Rather than simply mending the wound shut, it rewound its time, as if the wound had never taken place to begin with. Still, hopefully that'd repair the damage right quick. "Go ahead and go get that guy. He can't possibly move that fast right now." But these golems were beginning to be a pain in the ass and it was becoming clear that the Merchant guy was just going to cause problems.
Still, the golems had to be dealt with, and once again he drew on the stars as he activated Lightspeed. It'd let him fire off some potent spells without having to really take breaks between them, as long as he knew to recover his mana afterwards. Taking a sharp inhale, he pointed at the downed golems, with them all being scrunched together, it'd make this easier, firing off a Verflare, followed by a Scorch at one of the active ones, taking a moment to recover some of his aether. But ideally, if the spells went off without a hitch, four of the six should be blown away at that point. The other two, well he could handle those. "Believe me, I've faced a lot worse than golems, you can leave this to me." The sooner they got that guy under control, the better.

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
This place sucked. He'd never really had a chance to go to this Sonora, and now he wasn't sure if it was a good idea at all. Oh it was a city that never slept, and there was something neat about that; like some kind of city sized Gold Saucer. He wondered then if he'd find anyone from that family around here. As weird as he was, even Alex would admit that part of him missed Hildibrand, wherever he was. He hoped that the stars lit his path and that he was solving mysteries even now. But aside from that, it was awful! First off, the place was freezing. He'd dealt with it in Ishgard because he, well, he'd kind of been framed for regicide, where else was he gonna go? At least he'd accounted for that by wearing some winter clothes, but there were still some issues that he had!
There was the smell. Some kind of toxic smell that he'd never even known until now, and it was almost nauseating. Right now, he rather liked the idea of getting some fresh air somewhere else, so he could get the stench of this place off of him. Then there was the rampant xenophobia. He supposed he should be used to that by now, but everywhere he went, he seemed singled out as an outsider by some people. Others seemed a bit more accepting, though perhaps that was because his clothes seemed to match up with quite a few people here. In short, he wasn't running around in a suit of armor, so he blended in just a little bit better, but the occasional crinkled nose at the smell of the exhaust gave him away in short order; he was an outsider, and he was not welcome.
He found himself walking alongside some woman he didn't recognize; long, flowing brown hair tied into a tail at the end. She walked with a stride that denoted strength and confidence. He was about to strike up a conversation, opened his mouth even, when his head jerked to the side as some guy walked by across the street, headed towards the entertainment sector; was that a skunk stripe he noticed on a man in a suit? No, no, no, he was just imagining that. He had to be. If Emet-Selch were in this world, he'd know it by now. Even then, it wasn't exactly a fashion that the Ascian had invented. Other people likely had one, too. Right, just... take his mind off it, then. He was just paranoid. "Bit chilly tonight." He spoke up to the brunette. Just some minor small talk, something to give himself something to focus on.
The calico cat being cradled in his arm is proof enough of what he's been up to. Why the Rising Stones keeps getting such ridiculous jobs like this is beyond him. She never even pays! Good will of finding cats is not something that really gets you anywhere, and he's gotta eat. It's not like back on the Source where people just gave you things because you were the Warrior of Light, and even then, he was always wary of that sort of thing. Still, he should probably get it back to the lady before she started hassling anyone else. Maybe soon he would actually get some real jobs. But apparently with the Dragonblades setting up a shop here, well... as nice as Caius seemed, competition would have to be taken care of at some point. Who knows? Maybe when one of those supernatural brawls took place, it'd get leveled.
The meow told him all he needed to know. "Alright, alright. I get it. We'll get you something to--is that why you do this? To con me out of food?" He looked at the calico, which just looked right back at him before meowing at him again. "Yeah, you keep it up, you're gonna be a real fat cat before this is all over at this rate. Although I guess then you won't be able to get stuck in a godsdamned tree anymore." And then he'd be free. Free to do things that weren't rescuing cats. Maybe take Ragnabawk out for a flight after this? Little guy did need to stretch his wings now and then. Then there was tracking down Ardyn and... gods this was going to be an overall trainwreck, now wasn't it? What had he signed up for?
But hey, it wasn't all bad at least, if the blonde he caught in the distance was who he thought it was. So, well, maybe go and check, in his own--yeah, the clothes gave it away. So, he would do what he did best. He simply waited until she was looking at something, slipped up behind her, and reached out. He'd allow his hand to try and grip her shoulder. He thought about screaming, but then figured not to, he didn't want to cause a scene, just... spook her a little. That was always fun.

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
They made their way inside, finding seating relatively quickly enough. The menu looks nice, but he's hoping to get his wife a heavy meal so she'll actually sleep. The Waking Sands can afford to be dirty for a few hours while she gets some much needed rest. Though some of what she mentioned did perk his interest. Grilled behemoth? Well, uh, it turned out to be a really expensive place, didn't it? You couldn't really send an adventurer or two to go after a behemoth. Though, now that he thought about it, behemoth meat sounded really good. ... He wondered how it'd go over some cup noodles that he'd had a chance to try a while back. Apparently they were cheap and supposed to be bad, but for some reason they just wound up tasting so good.
Lycoris had her concerns, and they were valid ones. In all honesty, it was something that he tried not to think about too much, because when he thought about his existence, things started to get... weird. As his drinks arrive, he side-eyed the poor waiter. He doesn't like that it's already been poured for him. He'll just... he's not that thirsty, is all, as he just continues to hear her out. "So far as I understand, we're the full package, but I'm not sure if it changes things. But I've noticed the memory issue, too. Not with me, I seem to be fortunate." Yes, he'd arrived here with everything intact. Mostly, anyway. He didn't have the Echo, but he was quite pleased for that to be the case. He served Hydaelyn, yes, but a chance to go back to being a simple adventurer? Well, it was something he was quite happy with, though he wasn't sure how Lycoris would react to that.
Others, though... "Do you remember Noctis? He's here, too. He has no memory of me though. So I think it varies from person to person." And then, what caused it to vary? "My only true loss here, is I no longer have the Echo. I can no longer hear Hydaelyn's voice. Here, I'm no different than anyone else." And, well, he liked that. But his statement was more true than he'd admit. A world with people like him, for better or worse, could be a chaotic world. Perhaps that would be the biggest issue for him in this world though; would he even want to go back?
Alex wasn't entirely sure how to take to Caius just getting kind of dismissed like that. These two were obviously more familiar with each other, at least to the extent they had some memories of their home worlds. And from what he'd heard, well, this was kind of a big deal. But he understood the logic; Alex was just some adventurer for hire here, with no place to call home save for the outside world and the occasional inn that he got. Caius had some roots here, he had a network he could work with. There wasn't much else to go for that. Besides, a part of Alex was kind of excited for the chance to actually get to see Noctis again... and actually meet these friends of his, if his intuition was right. Granted, he couldn't fault the King of Light; dying had a pretty good way of interrupting one's plans, and setting things on a different course, if that failed timeline of his was anything to go by.
So Alex looked at Noctis. "Yeah, sure. It's been a while since we did anything, and I'm not as green as I used to be." Old Alex didn't mind people pouring his drinks for him. New Alex had flashbacks whenever it happened. But this Original Sin. Well, it had the bigger threat in the fact that it was actually in this world. Zenos was not in this world. There was no Omega in this world. And almost certainly Emet-Selch wouldn't be around right now causing his special brand of bullshit that just made everyone miserable and made things all the more difficult to deal with. Gods, he really, really hoped none of the actually competent Ascians were around. Lahabrea? Sure, he'd happily take Lahabrea. Lahabrea was a moron, Lahabrea could be dealt with. Perhaps it was fortunate that, to his knowledge, out of the thirteen of them, only two ever seemed to be a real threat.
"Caius," He tried the name out. Okay, that wasn't a bad name. Maybe just ask an innocent question, get some more information on what they were dealing with? "It was great meeting you and seeing Noctis again. Before I go, any idea where Original Sin is located?" It was something that could be answered quickly, he was already getting up and getting some gil out before looking at Noctis. Were they missing something? A slightly more mischievous idea came up, why not, right? "Meh, what's the worst that could happen?" He wasn't the most superstitious guy, but he'd noticed that saying such things always got a rise out of people. But for Alex? He was ready to go.

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
An arm wrapped around her. Really, he was just happy to have someone who actually recognized him here. That it's his wife makes it even better. Alex wasn't entirely sure how to respond and it was probably for the best that he didn't. While good food could be all well and wonderful, the reality was that he was a bit too used to more ah... travel food. Dried meats and all that. Things that kept well, and recently, Archon Loaf. There was a strange appreciation for it. It got the job done but it was like everything disgusting crammed into something that somewhat looked like bread. The ingredients that went into that were best left unsaid. Maybe he'd have some more made and share it with the others. Noctis would probably get some use out of it, right? Right?
But, well, a few blocks down then, as he quietly prayed that for once his luck would hold. He didn't normally play games of chance, or games that involve the rolling of dice, due to his luck being just that bad. Tavern games never went well for him, so he just tended to stay out of them, already knowing how it would go. "Not really, no. I never spent much time inside taverns. I'd really only go to inns just for a place to sleep and maybe something to drink. Even then I'm finicky about it." How many times had he been poisoned? No no, he refused to dine in a place where he couldn't serve himself in some manner. Lycoris was probably about to get a taste of that PTSD, but uh, well, it was something that married couples just worked through, right?
The sounds of merriment do draw his attention though. Alex let out a mental sigh of relief that he wasn't going to look like a jackass. Look, clothes were important, and he needed his wardrobe back, and some of the things he did have were already pretty expensive to get tailored to begin with! "See? Told you there was something around here." He tried to throw on all the confidence in the world, as he simply grips the door handle and pulls it open. "After you." Ladies first, after all.

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
He's asked what he thinks. She then immediately shushes him and tells him not to. He does anyway. "I think you should sleep." He answers rather bluntly. They have time. She... probably... won't have vanished when he wakes up the next day, he hopes. This place has really been wearing on him on that front. But, he tries to look at the facts here; It's been two days. The Archon Loaf is gone. That hard, disgusting tasting bread. He understood its benefits, understood its utility, and really, keeping some on him was just a generally good idea. But it was effectively wiped out recently, and well, he didn't know how to make more. But she seems like she doesn't need sleep, as if it's some foreign concept because why sleep when you could be out doing things or working, or pimping out your husband to do small tasks that he's not sure they're really going to get paid for.
He's skeptical they'll ever see a gil for finding that old lady's cat.
He protested, but he didn't fight when she wound her arm around his. "Lycoris, are you sure about this?" He didn't want her flopping face first into a bowl of soup or something. Really, that in itself is a new concept for him. It's something he finds odd. He can be open with her. Not in the sense that he can share his feelings with her, he could always do that. But there was no need to be hush hush about their marriage; no one here had any clue that he was a Warrior of Light... or Darkness... was it Twilight now? Whatever. He was just some adventurer, and that meant that he could actually enjoy their relationship as husband and wife in public without worrying that some cloak and dagger bullshit was going to go after her for their relationship.
But where to go. Right, with all the shit going on, like that plague, and wasn't there a wildfire a bit ago, too? He figured most people would be feeling a bit... tense right now. "Well, uh..." The simple truth was that he didn't really hit any fancy restaurants, he'd been... kind of blowing his gil that he did make on getting his wardrobe, as his current attire could attest to. "I've... heard good things about a... restaurant a few blocks down?" There had to be one, and he figured it wouldn't be too bad. Just... look for one with lots of people.
The appearance of the ghosts didn't get that much of a reaction from Alexander, considering everything else he'd had to deal with. Rather, he just started humming a shanty. Really, haunted, spooky sea cave, treasure, all that. Come on, as serious as he was being, it was still a rather spot on sea adventure. Through the water they went and came to five paths. Right, one of these. His gut told him that they'd all ultimately lead to the same place, but that the trials might still be different. The others jumped at the gun, picking their own paths, quickly leaving him with only two. Oh, bother, he'd have picked the storming one, too. But that just left him and the big man with the strange arm. He seemed nice enough at least, if a little gruff.
Alex looked at the number of paths, and then thought of the survivors. Right, no matter what, it had only been the five of them, even with their attempts at saving some of the others. "Five paths, five survivors." In short, it was a bit too convenient for his liking. He rubbed his chin in thought for a moment before looking to Barret as if he'd come to some startling conclusion. "This place is screwing with us." He hoped everyone else would be okay. Fran would... honestly Fran would probably scare whatever was waiting on the other side. It'd once been remarked that you had to stay on Fran's good side, that side being her backside, to be precise. He wondered if she ever heard someone say that. He'd never be the one to break the news to her. He quite liked being intact.
That just left the yellow and orange paths. The happy-go-lucky ones. Which meant that they were probably traps and this was likely going to be a really brutal affair. Alex looked at the big man again then at his Star Globe. "Here." He spoke up, as he casted an Aspected Benefic on Barret. What was better than regen? Two regens! Aspected Benefic piled on another one, as Alex nodded. "The others ran off before I could cast it on them, but..." And finished with a shrug. Really, he just wanted to get out of here. Treasure and all that didn't have its appeal right now. They were the only survivors so far as he knew, and everyone else on that boat had perished. He just wanted to get out of here and get home.
So, Alexander went through the Third Path with the Yellow Crystal, giving Barret a small wave as it was sealed behind him. With that, he took a deep breath, and unsheathed Silversnake. May as well get this over with. Warmth, fire, hand holding. This was absolutely a trap, he was sure of it, may as well just spring it and get it over with. He wondered what it would be. Undead offering warmth and friendship? If he joined them? Wait, if the murals actually gave a twisted image of what you were going to encounter... Alexander looked back for a moment.
"Oh shit, I went to the wrong one. I'm probably the only one here that can breathe underwater." He really, really hoped Barret didn't have to fight some giant fish monster.
Right, so he just assumed that Fran had no memory of him. Okay, that definitely made sense. Maybe he should just leave her to her business, then. Business as usual for Alex, at least. Of course, before he could completely leave her be and go do something else, that was when things got bad, as they usually did. He found the seas getting worse as the fog parted, and a whirlpool appeared. Alex gave a knowing sigh from that one; this was going to suck, wasn't it? He looked around, taking stock of the situation as panic started to rise. One woman shoved herself into a barrel and sealed it, okay, that was clever, he really had to give her that one. But they were running out of time, and fast as things began to rock and the boat began to break. He watched as Fran got conked--hard--and fell unconscious. Immediately a tether shot out, wrapping around the Viera and pulling her back to him.
Wait, Rescue...
Tethers began shooting out, trying to pull sailors who seemed a little more lost than usual. Most of them seemed confused, more than anything, but if this ship was going to crash, there was nothing else that could be done. "Hang on!" He roared, as he began to conjure wind magic. Give them air, something to breathe. Unfortunately, before he could get the spell fully off, there was another crash, and the spells were interrupted. He tried to get it going up again, but that was when everything broke, and he found himself dragged into the whirlpool, drawing a bit of a blank. He was just fortunate, perhaps, that for the Kojin's Blessing, he wasn't in any real of danger of drowning himself, perhaps that was a silver lining.
-----
When he awoke, he simply laid there for a bit. His eyes looked around, looking for any sign of the others. There were others, that were coming to. Fran was alive, that was a relief, so it wasn't all for nothing. He couldn't see any sign of the sailors, though, and that was an issue. Out as far as they were, with the damage caused, he didn't hold any hope. A sigh emanated as he rose up. So the ones with the amulets were saved, then? Already this had started to leave a sour taste in his mouth as he brushed himself off. He was soaked, but he was alive. He looked at the others, pulling out his star globe. Let's see... a quick flash appeared as he slid into the Diurnal Sect and cast an Aspected Helios over the group, the healing power of the stars washing over them with a regen effect accompanying it as well.
He took a moment to take in what should have been a wonder; a room filled with shining, brilliant crystals. In better circumstances, he would've very much wanted to take in the sights, but he looked to his... party members, he supposed. A Bard, a Monk, a Machinist and... he wasn't sure what Barret was, actually. Still, that figured his role easy enough. "Let's just get out of here." He spoke rather softly as he unsheathed his bastard sword, which, if he was going on what was basically an adventure, he figured, he paused for a moment. "Alexander Sorel." Right, who wanted to take point? If no one else did, he probably would.
