Final Fantasy Adventu is a roleplaying forum inspired by the Final Fantasy series. Images on the site are edited by KUPO of FF:A with all source material belonging to their respective artists (i.e. Square Enix, Pixiv Fantasia, etc). The board lyrics are from the Final Fantasy song "Otherworld" composed by Nobuo Uematsu and arranged by The Black Mages II.

It was Leviathan all over again. The storm, the boats, the crystals, everything was all coming together. He watched as a boat went to fight this Kraken. He should've been there, that was his first thought. He should have been on that boat, he had experience in this exact scenario. What if something happened to them? Something that he could have prevented? The thoughts stopped, and he forced his Amber eyes shut for a moment as the memories of Leviathan passed through him. He had to be mindful. He had to keep his thoughts in the present, dwelling on Leviathan and what he meant for Limsa would do no good. This wasn't Limsa. This wasn't Leviathan, this was something else, albeit similar.
His eyes reopened, and he found himself boarding a boat, silently praying that he would be on a ship that would find its way to this Kraken. He wasn't a glory hound, those days had long since passed him by. A good adventure was a good adventure, but moments like this... well, ghosts had a way of haunting those who wished to be left alone. Time passed. There were others here with him, as he waited in his armor, on edge, on guard, waiting for the oncoming storm as the rain whipped and lashed around him. Once again he forced the experience out of his mind, and forced himself to breathe.
The time for Alexander had passed for the moment. Right now, the Warrior of Light had to step forth.
With nothing else to do, he found himself wandering with a practiced ease. He would be fine, but he worried for the others. But, it wasn't all bad, at least, as a pair of familiar ears stood out to him. "Oi! Fran!" He tried to shout over the din of the storm. He made his way over to the Viera. Considering everyone else, he didn't expect her to remember him, but for now, she was a source of good familiarity to him. An anchor of home that wasn't a godsdamned water god hellbent on drowning everyone it could reach. His companions for this seemed to be settling in, themselves.
They all made good points. Plans were offered, and it seemed things were starting to come together. Perhaps Alexander should try and chime in on that front, maybe add his own, admittedly not as useful thoughts, considering how little time he'd actually spent here compared to the other two. He would state the obvious, first. "Not all of our abilities work." A no duh, but well, getting it out there and realizing the extent might help. "I normally have something called the Echo in my world. Lets me see into other people's past, gives me battle clairvoyance, and while in the past of other people or myself, I can rewrite history." Now that he actually said what it did for him out loud, he was really starting to realize how ridiculous it could be. Still, though. "I don't have any of that here. I don't miss it, if I'm being honest. Battle clairvoyance aside, where I've got adrenaline running, every time the Echo kicked in it gave me the migraine from hell. I've been migraine free since I got here. It's nice." He was better off without it.
He gave a light shrug. "So, sorry guys, but I'm just an adventurer here."
Still, then there was the matter of their enemies. Noctis was lucky, he just had Ardyn that was a viable threat. Alexander... he visibly grimaced as the rest started to come back. Gently resting his forehead in the palm of a hand, he sighed. "Then there are a couple... adversaries I need to disclose." He started with the one he considered the most obvious and potentially the most dangerous. "The first is Zenos Yae Galvus. Tall, long blonde hair, has a third eye that looks like a pearl. Uses katanas. If you encounter him, just leave unless you have backup. Not only is he powerful, but if, Twelve Forbid, you give him a good fight, he'll become ah... obsessed with you. It's not worth it unless you know you can kill him. Fortunately, there are no angry dragon gods around that I've noticed, so I don't see him being able to hijack and possess Shinryu again. His Echo might be working, as it's artificial, mine isn't. So be careful there."
That and he figured neither Noctis nor Caius would enjoy the idea of Zenos cooing over how much he treasured their "friendship."
Up came the next, which while he had defeated, still was a close call. A second finger went up. "Then there's... Omega. An inter-dimensional robot beetle. It has a ton of weapons, lasers, missiles, you name it. Durable as all hell, too. We more or less scratched it to death. Doesn't sound like much, but its lasers really hurt, so uh, don't get shot." That was the best he could put it. Should he have included the ability for it to split into a disturbingly pretty male and female pair, though? Eh, it'd be fine. He'd contemplated bringing up Lahabrea and Elidibus, but thinking back to how his previous encounters with them had gone, he decided it'd be best to leave them out of it. If he could handle them on his own, then without the Echo, he imagined they'd probably be much easier to manage as well. Loss of Echo worked both ways, and he figured Noctis might be able to take them on, so he just moved on as he raised a third finger.
"And then there's Emet-Selch. Smarmy beyond reason, atrocious fashion sense, insists he's not all that special. Unfathomably powerful with darkness. He... won't be a threat unless he's motivated to be a threat. He's a bit of a lackadaisical slacker otherwise. Also immortal." In short, all too familiar to some people at the table. "Also really, really good at scheming. Emet-Selch's 'gifts' are poison. Remember that." That was his advice, anyway, but he'd leave one last note. "His most dangerous aspect though is... well, remember what I said about motivated? He never had an overarching plan for world conquest or anything like that. All he wanted was to save his world and his people. Doing so would have meant the extinction of mine, but the survival of mine meant the extinction of his, so one of us had to die. If he thinks this world could save his people, there wouldn't be a thing you could say or do to make him back down. You'd have to kill him. Which becomes an even bigger issue; not only is he immortal, he doesn't quit. His motives are genuine, and he's got the willpower that comes with it. He'll keep fighting no matter how bad it gets." Heroic Willpower. It was always so handy when it was on your side and you were channeling and being awesome and effectively impossible to kill. Like the hero of your own ballad you got a really nice limit breaker and proceeded to wipe the floor and be great while doing it.
But man, it sucked when you were on the receiving end of it.

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
Alexander loved his wife. He truly did. He promised to spend the remainder of his days with her. Lycoris was his other half, and he would stand by her side in anything she chose to do. It's just, did she have to use that name? Maybe she didn't know how sick of the Waking Sands he'd gotten before it was all over? It'd always been a nice name, but that one particular phrase had been burned into his skull, and in hindsight, he wasn't sure how they hadn't been found by Garlemald sooner. Minfilia had even said linkpearl was notoriously insecure! Yet they were using it and telling operatives to go place--Now, let it go, that was in the past. Let it go. Still, it'd picked up in activity fairly quickly. Minfilia and the Waking Sands lived on! Even if it was in his wife and her shop.
Which meant that he had a job to do; advertising. Of course, as an adventurer, he would take nearly any job. It's just... he never really expected to be playing the role of--wait, no, he distinctly remembered having to put up fliers advertising certain matches for Ul'dah's arena, no he'd definitely done advertising before. But being out here meant that he actually got to see other people and watch them go about their business; pick up what was trending, what was selling, and what was going ignored. ... It may or may not have also allowed him to swipe potential customers away; a one stop shop was always appreciated for the sake of convenience. That being said, he really hadn't been expecting that certain strawberry hair, in that certain hairstyle.
Life is funny like that.
Visions flashed in his mind; a younger punk with shorter hair, a sword and a shield in hand. A newly christened Black Mage, enjoying the firepower a bit too much, a Scholar, fresh from graduating as an Arcanist and possibly regretting her fairy, and a Shrimpy Bard in the truest sense by his side. Fighting... more like watching a certain foreigner do all the work while they, as a group, just struggled to keep up. He smiled a little. It'd been how long? He didn't expect anything, he knew not to. Aside from this world, he'd been told that before that particular show had ended. Still, no reason he couldn't go up, say hello, maybe get side-eyed a little if he had her personality, right. ... Maybe advertise his wife's new business. ... Wife. He hadn't even been dating at that time. Funny how things moved with time.
So, he singled out that strawberry hair and quietly made his way over to her--she was walking rather stiffly. Did she get herself banged up? Well if it wasn't too far back, he could fix that. He was useful, now! He was able to close the distance quickly, thanks to her taking a break. "You know," He approached, projecting that warm, welcoming expression. "My wife runs a newly opened one-stop-shop if you'd just like to get your stuff and go home. Also a place to trade information if you're looking for work." He wondered what she was up to, now, anyway.

Let the World Shatter, Into Dust
nothing else matters, only us
The idea in and of itself isn't all that crazy, and he'd be lying if he hadn't thought of it. When finally the world was safe, actually safe, maybe retire with her, open a shop, maybe have some kids. It was something he'd wanted, deep down. It was just, he didn't want to put an entire family at risk. Not to mention the fear that they'd get sucked up by Hydaelyn to fight for her. He understood the necessity of what he did, of what he fought for, but there were times where he had understood that he'd never really had a choice in the matter, and that left him somewhat bitter. On the Source, he could never really go back to being Alexander save with Lycoris. Nearly everyone else would always just know him as the Warrior of Light, savior of the world.
But, there it was. The Waking Sands. There was that strong urge, that overwhelming urge to ask her to name it anything else. Why not the Rising Sands if she had to be nostalgic? But those arguments were quashed when he saw that innocent smile. "O-Of course, my love, it will be like we're back home." Just... not at a point in home where he'd rather be. "So many... fond memories." Even then, what kind of shop would the Waking Sands be? God, the smile, she was serious. Not even in the cheeky way, too. Well, in sickness and in health and all of that.
Still, he notes her earlier remark of being able to walk. Yeah, not with a twisted ankle like that. He scoots over, placing his arms beneath her before he scoops her into the air. There's no need to force her to walk. Plus, how long had it been since he held his wife in his arms? He was gonna take full advantage of that. "Come on, let's get you out of here." The world's gotten a bit brighter to him. There's someone else here, and things are probably going to be okay. Maybe.

✉ notes: >:c is it really that name
Let the World Shatter, Into Dust
nothing else matters, only us
Well, okay, maybe those were some very sensitive details. But one, Lycoris was his wife, he could trust her. There was no possible way this would blow up in their face. That and the gods were nowhere to be found in this world. At times he wondered if this place even had a god or even some twisted puppetmaster. For all he knew this place was just a random anomaly that worked only by random chance. Somehow, that possibility bothered him even more than some malevolent maestro. But she was right, he really shouldn't push himself until they're out of the woods. With the two of them together and at least able to move, then they were most likely safe. Well, barring some ambush by some asshole or something, so he could work with that, at least.
Alex sighed a bit as he dismissed the Simalucrum. Or Fray, really. Passing out might be bad, but her wounds had really been something nasty to deal with. He breathed, feeling the aether from the land fill his body. He still had some tricks left from his time as a Black Mage. X'rhun would be throwing a fit right now if he could see that, but well, to make sure the wife was safe, rules were more guidelines. "I have to be more careful with any aether that I pull here. The land here is more sensitive to it." He stretched, weariness being replaced by strength. He could keep going for a while with this, at least. He couldn't do this too often though without draining the land though. Back home, there was the Lifestream to act as a buffer, but here it was as if one didn't exist. Add in that the aether in general here was far lower than back home, one had to be careful, or risk sucking the place dry.
Although maybe passing out would have been the better option considering Lycoris's idea. She meant well, she truly did and it was always wonderful to see her having her own projects. It's just... "A hub for information to pass through. An Adventurer's Guild, essentially." Did she really have to have something like that? He could already see it coming. "Pray tell, love. What is the name you have in mind?" It better not be what he thought it was. There was always that sense of nostalgia with her, but from him? No, he would have been quite happy if he never heard it again. He was a good husband, he would always be by his wife's side no matter what, even if it meant that he had to return to the Waking Sands.

Let the World Shatter, Into Dust

Alex's lips thinned at her question as he bobbed his head left to right and right to left, a soft 'mmm' as he tried best to vocalize what was going on. "Yes, and no." That was a really cheap answer, but the actual answer was... complicated. So he'd try his best to sum it up. "It's a long story, but you know the general plot beats. Edge of Calamity, the Ascians, dramatic climax. Oh. Hydaelyn and Zodiark are Primals, that's new, the Ascians want to bring back their loved ones and go home, and the Echo isn't Hydaelyn's Blessing, it's a part of our soul and the Mothercrystal has some explaining to do. I've been here, there, and everywhere, before getting stuck here for the past... I think several months at this point." He could no longer hear Hydaelyn's Call. The Blessing of Light and the Echo didn't work here. Needless to say, if he ever got back, he and the Mothercrystal were going to have a little dialogue.
The Scions, he had a more concrete answer on. "Our Scion friends are fine. I think. I briefly saw Thancred a while ago, haven't seen him since. I've just been adventuring, staying in obscurity, looking for ways home, and meeting up with people who don't remember me." Gone as quickly as he came. That definitely suited the Bard, but... it was as if he'd completely vanished. As if he was no longer part of this world. Had he found a way home? No, that couldn't be it. He couldn't see Thancred finding a way home and not telling anyone. But... there was the amnesia. Why would Thancred tell a stranger he didn't recognize? This place was a nightmare. No lifestream, aether being wound up in pocketed singularities. This planet in general was a complete mess.
He already feels the fatigue wearing in, and he places a hand on the ground as he moves to her ankle. He draws the aether in, just a little. He has to be more careful here. He can't just fire and forget; the lands here can't take it like they can on the Source. Once again, he sets to work with his healing magic. "I think that's everything. You?" Was he forgetting something? Oh, jeez, was he getting hit with it too? Maybe he--right, the kettle.

✉ notes: a kiss is not worth dying for!
Let the World Shatter, Into Dust
nothing else matters, only us
He's not expecting the kiss. He's really not. He should've been, though. It's too easy for him to lose himself in it for the moment as the healing stops. And that's the issue; the healing stops. But he knows she's alive, and it's easy for his hands to find themselves gently caressing her cheeks. Too easy, far too easy, which is why it takes the voice of reason to step in, as if Fray is snapping his fingers to bring him back to reality; the wife is still heavily bleeding, best to patch her up, and go from there. So, as much as he doesn't really want to, he pulls himself away so he can actually concentrate on the task in front of him. "I appreciate the warm hello, dear, but let's get you healed, first?" At least he's done enough to keep her from dying if she's active.
He moves to her abdomen, and begins to rewind the time there. Astrology is... Lycoris gets it. Being a student from the isle of Val, it's not hard for her. Most people don't really believe him on how the magic of Astrology works otherwise. Not that he's one to talk, all he's ever really understood about her abilities as a Scholar is that she uses the power of math... and an annoying fairy. She should still have a Carbuncle, right? At least Carbuncles were cuter than Rina. Most anything was cuter than Rina, once you actually got to know the fairy. Part of him almost wondered if Rina had something to do with Lycoris getting into this mess.
But it did carry one realization; she remembered him. Where others had forgotten, and left him only with memories, the one who mattered most seemed to retain everything. There was that moment of relief in his heart. He wasn't sure how he'd handle her forgetting him as well. So many questions, but right now, she needs to rest. He can do the talking, he doesn't mind. Maybe it'd help keep her with him. "This world, it does things to you. Some forget, some don't. I don't know the all of it, but this might be a nexus of sorts; people from different worlds all congregate here at the whim of some force. I've yet to meet someone who came here willingly." He, like everyone else, had been brought here perhaps not against their will, but without knowledge or permission.
Alex waited, well at least Caius was being a good sport about all this. Probably not the crawl he wanted, but it was the crawl he got. Either that, or it was just satisfying for the near instant karma. Still, that left the matter of the golems, which while slowed, were still shambling towards them. Well, that confirmed some things. One, the guy didn't take much to go down. Two, the golems could still act independently even without the wielder. Which meant that they either needed to be destroyed or reconfigured. Personally, he disagreed with the assumption that their traitorous little merchant friend would be up quickly, considering what had happened, but still, best to assume so and work with that. "I got it, I got it." Good grief.
Once again he channeled his aether beneath him, and this time the stone erupted from underneath Alex himself as it pushed him up higher into the room. At its zenith, he made good use of his Displacement, always handy to have to create some distance. As the backflip commenced, pushed by the momentum generated by the stone pillar, he used his new vantage point to conjure an orange tether while creating some distance from the golems at the same time. Rescue, another handy ability from his Healer repertoire. Usually it had more... benign uses. Namely its most common being to yank an ally out of the path of an oncoming attack that he knew would hurt really badly, but as Urianger had demonstrated once, it had... other applications.
Namely because he was aiming it at the rod itself.
He wasn't sure how nimble Kahlil would be, or even was to begin with, but he wasn't willing to bet on the little guy. He figured getting the rod would be the easy part, hard part... well, not really. He was pretty sure he could make Kahlil let go if he really insisted on holding on to the damn thing. But just in case, he twisted his arm as he pulled on the tether, leaving his elbow jutting out to meet any wayward merchant's face. Who knows? Maybe they could wrap this up in a few more seconds!

Let the World Shatter, Into Dust
nothing else matters, only us
Ah, King Titania, formerly Rina. The pixies are doomed. Good thing something like that will never, ever happen. Alex follows her in a bit of a hurry. So if the little trouble magnet is telling the truth, then she really is in trouble and... the blood trail doesn't really help soothe his worries. He really, really hopes it's fresh, and not hers. If it is hers, and it's fresh, he can at least fix it but... His heart sinks as he continues to follow Rina. No matter how much he can repair the damage, the fact is he doesn't want her getting hurt to begin with. He only stops when they finally arrive, and his heart turns to ice as he feels a mixture or horror, fear, and anger. He was too late, of course. Why would it ever be any other way for him?
The daemon notices them, but it's not like it really matters. There's no epic battle, nothing. It's one Verholy. Easy enough. What follows is a bit more illegal. Well, in Eorzea. Pulling the Aether from the environment around him, he focuses it into another spell, blasting away the Daemon. Overkill, but considering everything else, nah, it totally had it coming. Alex did not like it when people went after the wife. He paid it no mind as it was burned in holy fire, simply moving past it to focus on his wife, kneeling down to look at her wounds. Too late. Always too late. This was how it was always going to go, wasn't it? The star globe was removed from his back, and he held back the tears burning at his eyes. She was almost certainly within his limit, but the fact was she was still hurt to begin with.
And so, he focused his energies primarily on the neck wound. That was easily the most critical, rewinding its time, to pull it back to a point where it had simply never happened. He'd heal her, bit by bit he'd heal her, and he wouldn't leave until she was back in perfect condition. He wouldn't be disturbed. He wouldn't be allowed to be disturbed, as the Simalucrum rose from his shadow to stand vigilant of any other intruders.
As he followed on through, he watched as the man began his little happy dance. "You are a sad, strange little man. And you have my pity." He was about to add a farewell on top of that and leave with his treasure, but then the monologuing started. Always with the monologuing. Couldn't they ever just shoot him or something? Emet-Selch did that with G'raha at least. Just shot him in the back and left poor Alex here to become a monster. That was fun. Really, it was only a moment, and began to spread his aether under the floor. Nothing too out there, just enough to get his aetherical hands out there. Stabbed in the back by some wily merchant. How many times had he been down this road? Enough to see it coming, at least. Really, he was more just here to keep Caius and Kahlil from dying at this point.
'Nice.'
There was Fray, ever helpful. Alex just stared at Kahlil with a dull, bored expression as the golems had begun to march out. Six in all? Well that wasn't so bad. Though the adventurer couldn't help but wonder what the guy would even do once they were dead and he had the golems. Honestly from what he'd seen of this world it almost felt like some other blokes would just make a gentleman's agreement to take him out. Partway through, Alex turned his gaze to Caius, motioning slightly towards Kahlil. Are you hearing this? it implied, as he only just quirked a brow at it all. Fortunately, he was just about ready.
That was when Caius apologized, and Alexander nodded. "Nah. Give me a moment." He said with an almost whimsically casual air as he worked his magic, literally. Using his aether spread beneath the floor to expedite the process, he manipulated a chunk of stone to rise up from the floor as a small pillar, and to try and smash it between Kahlil's legs. Stone spells could be so useful if you knew how to work it. If nothing else, it would give the two an idea if the golems were independent or if the guy had to keep some form of concentration. Good luck with that if those stones get stoned, buddy.
