She looks a bit too proud of herself. Standing there in the sunlight with her arms behind her back, white and brown fabric billowing around her knees, she doesn't exactly look like the sort of person who just spent the last thirty nine hours (and counting) of her life cleaning out the second floor of an old building that needs at least five times those hours poured into it before it is ready to begin opening. That isn't counting how long it will take to establish contacts and trade routes, or any of the actual merchanting aspect of the problem before her. It also begs the question on why she looked freshly washed and dressed so well if she plans on going right to bed, as she rightfully should. Because, the simple truth of it all, is too much energy thrums through her, and she needs a break.
A break out of the building that will become home and haven to the two of them, and a business for her to run. She's already let him know that he is, naturally, a set piece that can be rented out. Helper for hire! Accessible adventurer! That sort of thing. With his skill set, she's certain he'll be kept busy with requests in no time. In fact, the old lady down the street often needs help finding her cat.
Winding her arms around one of his, Lycoris smiles a bit too innocently and leans up. "Actually, do not answer that. It looks like the hot mess it is still. Give me a week and it will be presentable. But I am presentable now, and lunch sounds delightful. What is around here, Alex?"

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
He's asked what he thinks. She then immediately shushes him and tells him not to. He does anyway. "I think you should sleep." He answers rather bluntly. They have time. She... probably... won't have vanished when he wakes up the next day, he hopes. This place has really been wearing on him on that front. But, he tries to look at the facts here; It's been two days. The Archon Loaf is gone. That hard, disgusting tasting bread. He understood its benefits, understood its utility, and really, keeping some on him was just a generally good idea. But it was effectively wiped out recently, and well, he didn't know how to make more. But she seems like she doesn't need sleep, as if it's some foreign concept because why sleep when you could be out doing things or working, or pimping out your husband to do small tasks that he's not sure they're really going to get paid for.
He's skeptical they'll ever see a gil for finding that old lady's cat.
He protested, but he didn't fight when she wound her arm around his. "Lycoris, are you sure about this?" He didn't want her flopping face first into a bowl of soup or something. Really, that in itself is a new concept for him. It's something he finds odd. He can be open with her. Not in the sense that he can share his feelings with her, he could always do that. But there was no need to be hush hush about their marriage; no one here had any clue that he was a Warrior of Light... or Darkness... was it Twilight now? Whatever. He was just some adventurer, and that meant that he could actually enjoy their relationship as husband and wife in public without worrying that some cloak and dagger bullshit was going to go after her for their relationship.
But where to go. Right, with all the shit going on, like that plague, and wasn't there a wildfire a bit ago, too? He figured most people would be feeling a bit... tense right now. "Well, uh..." The simple truth was that he didn't really hit any fancy restaurants, he'd been... kind of blowing his gil that he did make on getting his wardrobe, as his current attire could attest to. "I've... heard good things about a... restaurant a few blocks down?" There had to be one, and he figured it wouldn't be too bad. Just... look for one with lots of people.
The lack of certainty in his tone leaves much to be desired. She leans up a bit more to press a kiss against the side of his jaw, openly enjoying the fact that she can for the exact reasons that have already gone through her mind. It isn't as if she wasn't aware of her husband's standing in the Source, or that he ever hid anything from her. But she knew that there were certain threats and dangers that came with being too public. While she doubts he would end things with her for her own safety, she is equally sure that he would go to great lengths to pay any grievance incurred tenfold.
"Have you, now?" Her eyes glint as she settles back on her heels. Easier to play along than tease him too much. Her mood is already fairly lifted now that she's poured her energy into something that is showing fruit. Soon, very soon, it will be a grand place. Maybe down the road they can expand, find more contacts, and-- oh, no, bad to get too far ahead of herself.
"Then a few blocks down we go."
As luck would have it, sounds of merriment and laughter from a nearby cafe are quick to catch their attention. All it took was wandering around for a fair bit taking in the sights and sounds. Gotta love something going right! Now, she's never tasted food anywhere as good as the Bismark, but who knows? One day something might be able to dethrone the current king of taste.
"Have you ever been to the Siren?" It feels like a good enough time as any to bring that up. "Around Valentione's, I did myself. There was an event and it seemed like a good time to get to know some people. It was an interesting experience to say the least. We'll have to visit sometime ourselves when we want to go drinking."

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
An arm wrapped around her. Really, he was just happy to have someone who actually recognized him here. That it's his wife makes it even better. Alex wasn't entirely sure how to respond and it was probably for the best that he didn't. While good food could be all well and wonderful, the reality was that he was a bit too used to more ah... travel food. Dried meats and all that. Things that kept well, and recently, Archon Loaf. There was a strange appreciation for it. It got the job done but it was like everything disgusting crammed into something that somewhat looked like bread. The ingredients that went into that were best left unsaid. Maybe he'd have some more made and share it with the others. Noctis would probably get some use out of it, right? Right?
But, well, a few blocks down then, as he quietly prayed that for once his luck would hold. He didn't normally play games of chance, or games that involve the rolling of dice, due to his luck being just that bad. Tavern games never went well for him, so he just tended to stay out of them, already knowing how it would go. "Not really, no. I never spent much time inside taverns. I'd really only go to inns just for a place to sleep and maybe something to drink. Even then I'm finicky about it." How many times had he been poisoned? No no, he refused to dine in a place where he couldn't serve himself in some manner. Lycoris was probably about to get a taste of that PTSD, but uh, well, it was something that married couples just worked through, right?
The sounds of merriment do draw his attention though. Alex let out a mental sigh of relief that he wasn't going to look like a jackass. Look, clothes were important, and he needed his wardrobe back, and some of the things he did have were already pretty expensive to get tailored to begin with! "See? Told you there was something around here." He tried to throw on all the confidence in the world, as he simply grips the door handle and pulls it open. "After you." Ladies first, after all.
"Why, thank you." Untangling herself from him, she ventures first into the establishment to look around. It's quaint, the sort of place that feels comfortable and cozy, like eating in the residence of a family member. A few tables on the inside, more tables on the outside, and a menu that promises wholesome goodness in the form of sandwiches, soups, and salads.
While hungry, filling up her stomach with heavy foods isn't a good idea in the grand scheme of things when she wants to get some more work done before inevitably passing out. That's the intention, anyway, until her eyes fall across on particular item on the menu. She looks at it, looks at the price, looks up at Alexander, looks back at the menu, and immediately does some mental math. Ooooh boy, it's gonna cost some from the emergency savings. Gonna be so worth it.
"They have grilled behemoth here." Swallowing her snicker, puts the order in for the massive plate they'll be receiving, along with a far lighter keycatrich salad on the side to pair with it, and moogle mouse with kupoberry sauce to be brought after. Sparkling cider sits better on her tongue than any alcohol ever will.
"As much as it bothers me, there are some things about the current situation that have crossed my mind. One of them is the validness of our existences." She lifts the drink to her mouth, lips pressing against the glass rim. "More so, are we reflections of those from another world, or a piece of them? Or are we the same, full packages? Then further from that, I wonder if it matters. But there are holes in my memory that leave these as curious questions."

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
They made their way inside, finding seating relatively quickly enough. The menu looks nice, but he's hoping to get his wife a heavy meal so she'll actually sleep. The Waking Sands can afford to be dirty for a few hours while she gets some much needed rest. Though some of what she mentioned did perk his interest. Grilled behemoth? Well, uh, it turned out to be a really expensive place, didn't it? You couldn't really send an adventurer or two to go after a behemoth. Though, now that he thought about it, behemoth meat sounded really good. ... He wondered how it'd go over some cup noodles that he'd had a chance to try a while back. Apparently they were cheap and supposed to be bad, but for some reason they just wound up tasting so good.
Lycoris had her concerns, and they were valid ones. In all honesty, it was something that he tried not to think about too much, because when he thought about his existence, things started to get... weird. As his drinks arrive, he side-eyed the poor waiter. He doesn't like that it's already been poured for him. He'll just... he's not that thirsty, is all, as he just continues to hear her out. "So far as I understand, we're the full package, but I'm not sure if it changes things. But I've noticed the memory issue, too. Not with me, I seem to be fortunate." Yes, he'd arrived here with everything intact. Mostly, anyway. He didn't have the Echo, but he was quite pleased for that to be the case. He served Hydaelyn, yes, but a chance to go back to being a simple adventurer? Well, it was something he was quite happy with, though he wasn't sure how Lycoris would react to that.
Others, though... "Do you remember Noctis? He's here, too. He has no memory of me though. So I think it varies from person to person." And then, what caused it to vary? "My only true loss here, is I no longer have the Echo. I can no longer hear Hydaelyn's voice. Here, I'm no different than anyone else." And, well, he liked that. But his statement was more true than he'd admit. A world with people like him, for better or worse, could be a chaotic world. Perhaps that would be the biggest issue for him in this world though; would he even want to go back?
If it were Y'shtola, she'd have an answer to satisfy all the doubts and curiosities of the matter. For if they were hale and whole, plucked from their world like this, a power greater than themselves was the cause. Then, for what reason? Did this world need to be saved? Were there machinations here that explained it all bit by bit? Or would they be left to their own devices, trying to find glimmers in the mist?
She remembers Noctis, of course. Thancred, Urianger, Lyse, Alphinaud, Alisaie, Krile, Tataru-- so many names and faces that are clear in her mind's eyes. Noctis, a person she barely knew for a few days, stands out just as strongly. Because of his instant connection with her husband. Kindred were their souls. A shame he doesn't seem to remember it. Given the chance, she would have loved to shown him more of their world and the people.
Noctis would have loved the Mandervilles. (Alright, that might have been some sarcasm.)
The steak of grilled behemoth is large enough for a small army to eat. When it is set on the table, Lycoris stares at the slather of buttery, delicious meat in a mixture of horror and uncertainty, not entirely clear if it is possible to even take a bite out of something so massive. Dear gods, this is going to put them both in food comas. The salad looks quite a bit safer. Regardless, knife and fork get to work carving off a sizeable chunk to put on her plate. Really, they'll have leftovers for a day or two with how much is there. There's got to be some kind of eating contest around this thing.
She reaches across the table to take a bit from his drink for herself before sampling her own. A habit she always does whenever they are out. It is why all the food is communal-style as well, with her trying it before passing a plate to him.
"But... you are alright with it all?" It is a feeling that she needs to draw awareness to. "You are unharmed, living here as you as. Physically, there are no issues. But, beyond the physical, are you truly alright with everything?"

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
He'll wipe it out in a day or so he figured, as the meat is brought to him. Working like he did, he always managed to get his appetite going. That never changed, not even in this world. He watched as his wife drank his own drink. Something she wound up picking up after... everything. A way of testing whether or not it was poisonous. He objected, considering it was his wife and it being poisonous would make it even worse. He almost instinctively reached his hand out to swat it away, but forced the urge down. Nothing seems to be happening, not immediately. Give it another minute or so, and then he'll know for sure. He tried to pass the time as she mused idly on this world, something that he should probably do, too. He paused for a moment. "That's the rub." He quietly admitted. "I'm just like everyone else." It was said more with a soft tone of glee than despair.
Nothing depending on him. No badgering from any grand companies. No imminent to the world that couldn't be immediately handled. "There's no pressure to save the world. No threat of some domineering empire. I almost don't want to leave." It was only the Scions, their friends, that really motivated him to return home. Were their fellow companions and the Scions to arrive in this world, there was a good chance that he wouldn't go back. Why would he? He'd thought about the after, and the Eighth Umbral Calamity was proof that as soon as he was dead, the world was just going to head right to shit anyway. It felt like trying to hold back a mighty deluge, and the dam would only hold as long as the builder repaired the cracks as they appeared. The builder couldn't keep at it forever.
"With us being pulled, though, it begs the question; how much of this is native? I've seen chocobos, there are moogles, and Behemoths as you see. So how much of that existed before whatever force began pulling?" He begins to carve off a slab of meat for himself before he finally samples his drink. Lycoris seems to be doing fine, so just one tiny sip, maybe. Now to wait. But the meat? The meat's great, probably expensive as all hell, but great. It's only when the sounds of panic dulled by the walls reach him that he simply looks up to his wife. Right, he should probably say something before she rushes out to meet whatever it is, ruining their nice date. She's quite like he is at times, and here, it's just something you have to fight back. Even if for the Warrior of Light, that seemed downright odd.
So he says casually, but almost exasperated. "Oh, someone's at it again." He remarks. "So, to give a quick rundown on this world. It's not like ours. Most everyone brought here is a hero or villain in some form and in their own right." Meaning there were many, many powerful actors running around on this stage. "Clashes are... inevitable." But it always seemed to settle down. Fortunately, none of his enemies had the ill intent of actually showing up. No Ascians to plague him, Zenos was nowhere to be found. It seemed as if their world was so remote that whatever force domineered the metaphysical workings of this world, it could barely reach his own. Here, he could relax and actually enjoy some food with his wife. That there was a clash meant it was already being taken care of.
There is a casualness to his words that leaves her flabbergasted. That was the truth of the world? A place of heroes and villains from their own? Part of her wanted to interject that she didn't belong there if that were the case, but the word itself was subjective and very loose to interpretation. What she knew, what she spent her life pursuing, could easily tip her into the cliche realm of 'hero', as could her pursuits of doing what she could for the greater good.
The idea that any number of their enemies could appear was unsettling to say the least. One stood out stronger than most in her mind's eye; the ominous force of Zenos. What he could do, what he would do, nearly terrified her. The destruction he'd leave behind in his single-minded pursuit to battle Alexander would be... but maybe not. In a place like this, others might intrigue him. Others might draw his interest. For what was the Warrior of Light without Hydaelyn's gifts where others may have more natural abilities? It's a small comfort she clings to.
"It almost sounds like an afterlife," she feels herself admitting despite it all. "A sanctuary for those who have fallen. Where they can have a peaceful, or not-so-peaceful, continuation and correct any sort of things that they did not accomplish in their life. Well, that hopefully is not the case, either way." Lycoris shakes her head quickly to dispel the thought. No, better not to focus on that train too long.
"Are you sure that we should not help, however?" No. No, they shouldn't.

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
It was an idea that he hadn't really given much thought. Perhaps it had never occurred to him, or perhaps it was something that he really didn't want to think about. Afterlife, gods he hoped not. Really the idea that he would just be scattered to the lifestream and then reincarnated after everything was already slightly disturbing for him. Nevermind the fact that he had outright died in a different timeline. That much surprised him. Lycoris always considered him to be a cockroach. "If this is the afterlife, I want a refund." Oh he liked it here much more than the Source, but he wouldn't exactly call it a paradise. Nevermind that it likely wouldn't do to get attached, at some point he was going to be needing to go back and save the world and... it just all got so tiresome sometimes.
Her question is fair; things are heating up, and Alex simply shook his head. "At this point we'd probably get in the way. It's not like back home where you're helping some Grand Company members who are in way over their heads." The people here were heroes and legends in their own right, who did things a certain way. If they could keep innocent casualties from happening, well, then he'd stay out. But... "If anything is in danger, it's probably the shop. Should we head back to keep an eye on it?" Not that it mattered. If it got burned down or something he'd probably be drafted to help rebuild it. He didn't really know why him, he wasn't exactly the best carpenter for that sort of thing.
He sighed and leaned back a bit. "I've been fortunate. None of our adversaries have appeared, at least." Zenos was nowhere to be found, neither were any of the Ascians. Maybe he would luck out and not have to get dragged in to all of this. Just keep it that way, nice and quiet from the Source. Although that meant they were free to muck about--not that it mattered much. With the Unsundered out of the picture, the rest were bereft of cohesion and leadership. The Ascians died with Emet-Selch, who was most assuredly, definitely dead.
