Renitra Starspear had finally come to terms living in Zephon. It was still hard for her to accept but any chance of returning home was slim to none. Her friends... Her family... Never to see her again. Whenever she thought that it almost broke her. However in arriving in Zephon, she had seen people have hope and there were others from other worlds in her exact situation. On her first day alone she ran afoul of bandits and was held captive by then while she was still disoriented from her dimensional displacement, however she was duly rescued by a woman named Celes. Celes actually took Renitra by surprise at their similarities. They both wore yellow, and their hair was almost the same, although they were both blondes. Celes had let it slip that she was part of a group calling themselves the Drabonblades and they sought to do heroic deeds for the people. The concept sounded similar to her original team in the Scions of the Seventh Dawn...
Renitra had to know more. She had remained Provo to learn more about them, while performing the occasional adventurer assignment of daring do good to make the occasional gil. Adventuring was still as lucrative as it was in Eorzea, although many of her clients kept mistaking her for Celes. At times like that, Renitra considered changing her armor, or forming a glamour plate or even dying her hair so she didn't confuse people further, as well as not anger Celes. Renitra still felt embarrassed over the bandit incident after all.
But thanks to her diligence and perseverance she found the hideout of the Drabonblades. She boldly went up to the door and carefully knocked. Usually she was very confident when making contact with unknowns, but this time she felt nerves in her stomach. She didn't know who would come to greet her. She just hoped it was someone receptive to her request to join them...

The Dragonblade
Which made it all the worse who happened to open the door.
Caius Dragelion, leader and co-founder of the Dragonblades alongside Celes, had stopped by Provo. Well, "stopped by" wasn't really the right word for it. Y'know, considering he had just fled Sonora at top speed and this was the closest place outside the borders of that awful hellscape. Caius was tired, still wearing that fancy Sonoran suit that caused him a world of discomfort, and more than eager to make as much distance from Sonora as possible. Unfortunately, circumstances dictated he needed to go back. But only after informing Yuna , who ran operations in Provo, that a potential Class B threat was likely going to be after her life. And then go all the way to Torensten to check on Celes, whom he hadn't seen in an entire year since their "blind date" had gone horribly wrong and she had shortly after gone on a vacation. That turned into a working vacation. In Provo. For a year.
Needless to say, he wasn't in the best of spirits. He genuinely wanted to take a long nap and hope that he'd forget all this insanity in the morning, but first he needed to return to Torensten. So after going through what was probably a bundle of drama with Yuna, he opened the door to what was more healing clinic than an actual Dragonblades base, just at the same moment someone knocked, and...
Stopped cold because yes, she looked and dressed exactly like Celes.
Caius stared at her with mouth hung open for a moment as he tried to find even the smallest, remotest of words to say. "I..." really was the best he could get, before he began to notice that some of the features and even her posture, were different. If it hadn't been for already meeting Celes' twin sister, perhaps he wouldn't have. But he'd already made the mistake once, instinct drove him to notice now that...
It wasn't Celes.
Seriously. How many doppelgangers did this woman have?
Caius loosed a long breath as he settled himself. "My apologies, I was stunned by..."
He almost made a quip. Humor was his method of coping, and boy, did Caius need a LOT of effort towards coping right now. But the joke of "your radiant beauty" faded before it even got past his tongue because as much as he would have meant it as a quip? That people in the stories he'd read would say it as a quip? The aforementioned disaster told him that was the last thing he should say. Especially to someone who looked just like the dead center of that disaster.
He was never using that quip again.
"... You look like someone I know."
Quick, Caius, renew your focus and change that subject. Act like nothing's wrong. Be a professional. You're good at that.
"Do you need anything at the clinic? Miss Yuna is quite swamped, but if you're wounded, I can get you situated until she or another healer can see you."

Upon seeing Caius Dragelion, the (unknown to her) leader of the Drabonblades stare at her perplexed, Renitra raised her eyebrow at his open mouth. She was about to put her finger to his nose to check if he was still breathing when he finally spoke. "Are you OK...?" She asked softly, clearly concerned for his wellbeing having seen him trail off. She slowly moved her blue gauntlet hand to carefully shut his jaw when he spoke again. It didn't take a vision from her Echo to figure out he wasn't in a good mental space at the present time
"You Look like someone I know..."
She internally smacked her palm into her forehead. She was mistaken for Celes AGAIN! Well, she figured she should defuse it with a light hearted joke. "It's OK. I've been mistaken for a lot of people lately. if i had 100 gil for every time it's happened, I could buy a blessing from Nald'thal themselves!" She then realized her attempt to defuse made no sense. "What am I saying... You're probably not even from Eorzea, let alone Ul'dah. Forgive me..." She said clearly embarrassed.
"But in all seriousness... I remind you of Celes Chere don't I? I've met her already." Renitra decided to go straight to the point. No point dancing about it. "My name is Renitra Terasu." She opted for her full original name. After all, Starspear was her Adventurer name. "My adventurer name is Renitra Starspear. I um... well I'm new to Zephon for one... I met Celes on my first day here after I had a mishap with some bandits... I still feel embarrassed I sullied her name by it. People thought I was her. So... Celes told me about your group. The Drabonblades I think she called it? The way she spoke of it, it reminded me of a group I worked for back in my world, The Scions of the Seventh Dawn. It may be impossible for me to return home... But I would like to ask if it's possible to ask to join your cause. A group similar to the Scions... it'll be a comfort and a pleasure to fight along side... people who have the wish to safeguard the realm from Dangers. Primals, Eikons, power drunk Garlean arseholes who kidnap smallfolk..." That last one was a potshot at her at present nemsis, Zenos yae Galvus. "And other stuff probably..." She added. She let off a far eastern bow, a part of her Doman heritage to Caius.
"... I probably should dye my hair and get a different dye on my armor huh? It's no leotard, but these days you can dye anything. Even tortoiseshell mail like this." She asked trying to be good humored about the similarities between her and Celes

The Dragonblade
Caius didn’t have enough left in him to do this sober. She started talking about blessings from some god he didn’t know, and about Eorzea…
Oh. Eorzea. A Celes duplicate from Alex’s world. Fantastic. Just the absolute last thing he needed right now. And apparently she had met Celes already. Well, that wasn’t too much of a surprise considering she was their primary representative in Provo. The whole town probably knew who she was, that stern attitude of hers had never been subtle. Apparently Celes #3 was called Renitra. There were bandits, because of course it was bandits. There were Scions which he was far too tired to even try to understand. But one thing he did understand was her being an outlander whom had nowhere to go. And wanted to join the Dragonblades.
As much as Caius really wanted to hurry to Torensten and finally ditch this uncomfortable monkey suit, he knew he couldn’t just leave her here.
But after the ramble, she started bowing. Why was she bowing? Was that what he looked like when he bowed? Boy, was he tired. She’d also been lamenting about her hair… Or it seemed to be lamenting as far as his tired brain could tell. And Caius lacked the social skills to help a woman in a hair crisis.
“Your hair is fine. I’m sure Celes is flattered. Probably” was the best answer he could think of. Celes was probably not, in fact, flattered. But what did he know about hair trends? Nothing. If Celes took issue, that was her mess to sort out. What Caius did know how to do, however, was conduct business.
“We’re mercenaries,” he made sure she knew right away. Celes had probably told her, but Caius wanted to be thorough. “We fight monsters, sometimes bandits, for hire. Sometimes we’re security detail for merchants. So we’re probably not exactly like your… Scions. We don’t serve a government body nor have any obligation… Though our aid when it comes to emergencies has become something of an expectation.”
Which is where it became complicated. “As I’m sure Celes told you. Many of us aren’t in it for the money. While the mercenary side of things helps ensure we make a living, most of us just want to help people. Many of us were once soldiers, knights, adventurers. People who have suffered and seen suffering, and don’t want to watch others suffer the same. When someone’s in an emergency and can’t reasonably afford a sellsword… Most of us just do it, because we want to. When threats like giant monsters, or crazed outworlders with horrible powers become a threat, the people turn to us. And we handle it. Because we want to.”
And there’s the rub. “So on one end. If a place to work and to get the first scoop when people are in a bind are what you want, the Dragonblades maybe for you. We commonly employ outworlders, so we have resources to help educate you on navigating this new world. Celes wrote it herself, she’d probably make a killing as an author if she sold it.”
Maybe he’d suggest that sometime…
“On the other. There’s a lot of expectation for us to step in when things get dangerous. Which they do. A lot. Extremely dangerous. Survival isn’t guaranteed. Don’t sign that application lightly.”

"Well, outside of being a Scion I was an adventurer, And those things were common jobs. Slay this, nab this poacher, protect caravan, gather hunting targets for their meat, catch bugs to make a delicous candy for beasts..." Renitra counted the types of tasks she had done off on her fingers thinking about what Caius had said concerning what the Drabonblades were. Then came the statement of neutrality "Thats Scions too. They were not bound by any one of the city states or Grand Companies. We presented ourselves when there was a great threat. Like a Primal, an avatar of a beastial tribes God. I've faced like... a lot of those... So I'm aware of potential risks."
She then heard what Caius said about it jobs being potentially short on money and that they are not in the business of being mercinaries for the money. "That makes perfect sense. You do it because you think it's what's right, right? Even when you lose faith in peopple... you still solider on because it's the right thing to do..." Renitra slowed and her voice trailed. She was talking from experience. She soldiered on in the Dragonsong War for 5 years. She even went with Alphinaud and Estinen to try and stop it peacefully by parleying with the heretic leader Ysale, and the dragon Hraesvelgr because it was the right thing to do. Even when her friend Haucherfaunt was killed by the Heavensward, she still went after them and even fought Bismarck. Not because of revenge... well it was partially the reason, but because it was the right thing to do, to stop Archbishop Thordan's plan to become a Primal to control the world. It took her a great deal of time for her to eventually heal her heart after all of the bitterness, loss and sadness.
Strangely enough she didn't make a smart comment about the warning that Caius had given her about the group. She wanted to be in this group. It felt right. A scion by any other name was just as good to her, not to mention she had a feeling Caius had bitterness as well. He didn't look like he was in high spirits and in her mind, she thought he founded the Drabonblades simply because it was the right thing to do. She paused, and eventually...
"Children of the Land, answer this: Why do you turn to empty bliss? Tell me why break trust, turn the past to dust, seeking solace in the abyss..." She sung the lyric slowly and quietly. She had learnt that song from two people. Ysale and Midgardsormr. Her analysis of Caius brought the song to her mind. She eventually realised and looked up to Caius. "Forgive me... I just... i don';t know. I feel a sort of resonance when your words. You made this group because you wanted to do right by people. I can respect that. I'm not making this request to join you lightly either. I'm aware of what dangers could be... And like i said.. to be working with those who shared the same situation as I have, this who came to this world by no fault of their own... We might help each other... Not on the field... but in the heart."

The Dragonblade
Caius shrugged slightly at her response. He supposed she was more or less right? He did what he did because he thought it was right and he wanted to do it. He honestly didn't understand some of what she was saying, like the whole Children Of The Land thing. But he also could just be exhausted from the long trip here, and telling Yuna that her summon could be dangerous and that split personality Alex was probably on his way to kill it and possibly her. He also really needed a shower. Seriously.
Still, she was sincere and he could respect that. And if she had already met Celes...
"Tell you what. I'm on my way back to Torensten. If you've met with Celes before, you might as well go with me" the mercenary offered then. "I'll chat with her and see what she thinks of your abilities, based off what she's seen. If we haven't seen enough, we'll put you through whatever testing will satisfy both of our criteria. We don't usually just let people in without some matter of testing. We need to know that the people who work with us are people we can trust with our lives" Caius explained, hoping that would be something that could understand well. "The Dragonblades protect each other, so we try to be as thorough as we can be. And it'd be good to know your capabilities in battle as well, so we don't feel like we're sending you to die."
Mercenaries in their employ had died, though it was rare. It was something Caius wanted to avoid where possible.
"I'll be leaving soon. So if you're serious about this, I would make any travel arrangements you need to within the hour."

Renitra felt a twinge of excitement when Caius offically invited her to come with him on a caravan to Torensten. She clapped her hands in delight but thenfrowned. "I suppose I should fully disclose, when I met Celes, i wasn't at my best... Long story short... I had just woke up in Zephon following a fight with my nemesis. Its still a bit fuzzy but he threw me through a portal beyond time and space and I wound up in Provo... And then some bandits found me when I was coming to and mistook me for someone named Maria..." She said sheepishly. "Celes came to the same conclusion as the bandits and opted to rescue me. I'm still very greatful for her kindness and patience as we tried to clear up the misunderstanding."
She then nodded to Caius. "I'll be back in 10 minutes. I don';t have much to pack as it is." She performed another Far Eastern bow to him and walked out of the Drabonblades hideout. True to her word, she returned 15 minutes later. She looked ready. Her weapons were strapped to her body. Her spear on her shoulder and her astrometer attached and hanging on her waist. Her backpack was on her shoulders and she was shuffling a series of Sharlayan tarot cards absent mindedly. She had removed her blue gauntlets and was now wearing slennder white satin gloves sewn careefully into a pair of astrologian half sleeves to make a full set of gloves. Her hands were moving in such a way like she was trying to treat the cards with the utmost care. She looked at Caius and stopped shuffling. "Ah... Forgive me.. I was nervous. Needed to fiddle with something... I hope thats alright... By the way, I don't think you've said what your name is, Ser Drabonblade... If you would be willing to indulge me..."

The Dragonblade
So basically just about everyone's first encounter with the steely-gazed General of the Dragonblades. Caius shrugged when she stated this, not seeming all that bothered. "You survived. That's a good start" Caius commented, though he couldn't shake the feeling he had met a Maria before... For a moment, something came back. Just a slight inclination. And he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up on end.
He was way too tired to process all that about a time portal, and too tired to even apologize for not understanding. Perhaps it was best that he didn't.
Caius was ready to go, so her being five minutes late was definitely noticed. But it was what it was, even if she was essentially wasting time that he had intended to spend getting back to Torensten, he needed to rest anyway. Yuna had wanted him to stay the night, but he had declined in favor of getting back to work and cleaning up the mess in Torensten as soon as possible. She claimed something about nerves and fiddling with something. He didn't understand that either, but at least they could now get on with it. "Then let's get going. I've already hired a set of chocobos, so it should make the trip go quickly" he responded as he would lead her to the chocobo stables. Caius had needed to pivot around and rent a second last minute for Renitra, but that was fine. If Celes found her capable, they would have another member.
With the threats they now had to face, they might need all the help that they can get. Caius mounted his chocobo and waited for her to do the same before he would answer her question.
"My name is Caius," he spoke then, scratching behind the ears of his chocobo as he would get them moving. He didn't know if Celes had told her that Caius was the leader of the guild alongside her, but he had a habit of not stating his rank right away. "Fair warning, you may be tested further when we arrive. Considering your meeting, Celes may decide to do so herself."

Renitra clambered onto the big yellow bird. She gave it a scratch under the chin with a slight smile. “Something's never change. There's always a big friendly Chocobo no matter where I go…” she said. Then she sighed. “I miss you Peck…” Peck was the name of her personal Chocobo companion back home in Eorzea. Last she saw him, he was carrying the unconscious Krile Baldesion away from Gyr Abania following the rescue operation.
When Caius introduced himself properly, Renitra thought once again that his last name as Drabonblade. Ser Caius Drabonblade. Had a nice ring to it. At least on Renitra's mind. It sounded Ishgardian. She couldn't help herself but ask. “You're definitely not from Eorzea? Your name… it has an Ishgardian feel to me. You kinda do come off as a Temple Knight… I mean that as a compliment.”
Her mind went back to everything that has happened in Zephon since she arrived leading up to meeting Caius and joining his trip. “I should be fine… I've… been through… a lot ..” she trailed off. As if the weight of her own words hit her. She had been through a lot. She let off a soft sniffle at recollection. She clenched her fists as they grabbed the chocobos reins. The bird tilted it's head in concern as tears started to well in her eyes.
Renitra tried her best to keep herself composed but the emotion was getting to her. “... Am I really as good as I'm supposed to be…?” She asked aloud. “Zenos said I'm not the Warrior of Light… that Rising Stones boy claimed to be the Warrior of Light… how.. is that even possible? How do we share the same memories… it.. doesn't make sense… he had no right… to say what he said…” her fists tightened as more tears slid down. Eventually… she blinked rapidly trying to stop them. She had to put on a brave face. That and she doubted Caius would want to listen to it…

The Dragonblade
Caius chewed the inside of his cheek when she talked about missing her chocobo. "Me too" he muttered under his breath. He missed the chocobos back home. He tried not to think about it, but watching what had happened to them all was...
Maybe they got away when their home was razed. He had to tell himself that, whenever he thought about it. The pain of his family's death was already hard enough on him. The thought of the chocobos being cooked too was too much to bear. It was part of why he had repressed those memories for so long. Albeit involuntary.
Renitra said something about a temple knight that made no sense to him, so Caius just nodded to affirm he was definitely not from her world. Eorzea was definitely where Alex and his motley crew was from, which might be trouble. Speaking of trouble, and speaking of Alex, it seemed this one had some trauma to offload, by the sounds of that sniffle. By Lucis, Caius was definitely not equipped for this. But he tried his best to listen nonetheless. At least until she mentioned Alex. Then his brows furrowed.
“That ‘Rising Stones boy’ is as far from an honorable warrior as you can get. Listening to him will do you as much good as taking advice from goblins” Caius remarked as blunt as a hammer. "Zenos doesn't sound like much either. Probably the type to raze a village for fun."
That had actually happened.
“In short? Alex is a prick. And a bully. Who is so desperate for money, and attention, that he hires serial killers for his Stones. And tries to sabotage local health clinics because they're taking attention away from him.”
Sure, Sephiroth’s situation was… Complicated. But he and Cloud still leveled the city without care. While Cloud’s deep trauma had been to blame, Sephiroth had done his part without thinking twice. Besides, Alex had talked a bunch of bunk about the Dragonblades. Maybe he should have a taste of his own medicine?
Amongst everything else he had done, Sorel could rot in hell for what he said to Renitra, too.
