Caius hadn't expected to find this grotto, but here it was. He'd heard rumors of the discovery of some kind of ancient forest and had gone to investigate himself, his explorative nature taking over... But there was something about it that he wasn't expecting. This grotto. He didn't know how to explain it. But something about it made it clear to him that it was a safe place. While his shoulders remained uptight as he and the blue Fire Drake moved through the forest, Some sort of creature with a bob on its head flew past the trees, but Caius hadn't had a chance to get a good look at it. It was the same one he had seen earlier while exploring this wood, just before the weird smelly guy had interrupted his rest. Now curious about what sort of creatures were in this wood if they weren't trying to eat him, he found himself following, trying his best to keep up with the little red bob he could see between the branches, though he was never able to figure out just what was behind it.
Perhaps it was something planning to lure him in to use for dinner? Or maybe, even with how safe this forest felt... He was just a little too paranoid. To be fair, the last time he had found a forest he didn't know, it conjured illusions and tried to kill him. So it wasn't hard to blame Caius for being just a little on edge.
But then the creature disappeared. Caius growled low in frustration. It would be a pain for them to find their way out of the forest again now. He cussed under his breath, and Vordun let out a snort that erupted steam from his nostrils in turn as Caius seemed to decide that all they could really do was just... Keep going, he supposed? That was about all they could do. They were here to explore, after all. Getting out of here could come later, and worst case scenario... They could try and fly out from under the trees. It wouldn't be easy, but it would make for a good contingency plan if it became necessary.
What Caius didn't know what that the red-pommed creatures did not entirely disappear. In fact, it seemed they were leading him somewhere through the wood. If he were to peer through the brush, he'd see why.[break][break]
Slumped against a tree was Fran, using nearly all of her strength to stay conscious. Her injuries were far worse than she had imagined. She had at least managed to hobble her way through the woods while those pommed things lead her to the safe place. She usually didn't trust this easily but her mind was fogged and she needed to rest, and she sensed no hostility with these creatures. However, when she heard the footsteps of a few heavier creatures, she winced in pain as she tried to move. She wasn't about to be a sitting duck for something to pick her off. But the moogles continued to dance around her, and if they didn't think they were in danger, then...[break][break]
Fran groaned, a gutteral sound rising from her throat. Then her world started to blur, before going black.
Caius was curious enough as he continued on, Vordun rumbling behind him as he went. But when he pushed past some branches to try and catch up with the red balls, he would be surprised at what he would find. His eyes widening, he wasn't sure what to make of the woman that was slumped in front of him, using the tree as her only means of keeping afloat. It seemed she was quite nearly out of sorts, and would probably collapse soon, and then potentially worse, if not helped. She seemed to have turned to face him though, when Caius and Vordun approached. Was it a combat stance? He wasn't sure.
Either way it didn't really matter, as the strange woman that the creatures had led him to would soon collapse. Gritting his teeth when she hit the ground, Caius would rush forward. Bringing an ear to the square of her back, he would be able to hear her heartbeat. Nodding his head when it was clear she was still alive, Caius took a deep breath as he brought his palm to her back instead.
"Cura."
Caius felt his energy leave him as Cura would begin to work. If the woman was injured, that would take care of it. But it seemed that she was likely exhausted as well, if he was to guess by the heavy heaves of breath that remained even unconscious. Caius looked to the creatures, then. Curious, he spoke up.
"Do you understand me?" He inquired toward the creatures. One would bobble forward.
"Bringing her to Moogle Village we are, Kupo!" The creature would speak, their use of actual language almost causing Caius to fall backward, but Vordun had move to rest at his back and keep him steady. "She can rest there! You can come along too, Kupo!"
Caius nodded his head, then. "I'll carry her" He offered, as he gingerly took her wrists, pulling her to her feet before heaving her halfway over his shoulder. Using his shoulder to support her, he would follow the Moogles toward their destination. Caius and Vordun would be led to a little hovel that comprised of trees shaped to resemble little abodes. He smiled softly at the sight, a bit breath-taken by all of it. It was... Beautiful, honestly. In these monsters infested forests, he didn't know how something so beautiful, so innocent, could exist, but... There it was.
The Moogles would lead them to where he could lay her down, on a bed of hay inside of one of the trees. Laying the woman down gently, Caius would venture out to explore the village a bit. His wildfire curiosity could not be sated by just a glance.
Somewhere, like through a fogged memory, she could feel her body begin to relax. The pain that swelled inside of her seemed to dissipate, yet she still could not bring herself to open her eyes, nor to swat at the hands that began to grip her. The voice of the man seemed so far away. Her mind began to slip into darkness, no matter how much she tried to fight it or how much she wanted to fight off this stranger. One thing she could remember in her clouded state was that whoever was carrying her was probably not one to mess with; her large stature made it rather awkward for most men to carry her. Not that any sort of man tried to carry her regularly. In fact, the only one who had attempted was Balthier, and he did so with such ease... Balthier... Thoughts of her Sky Pirate partner sent her into a sleep that she desperately needed.[break][break]
There would be no recollection of how much time had passed since she fell into her sleep. When her body deemed it the right moment to awaken, she could still feel some sunlight burning through her eyelids. She could faintly hear pitter-pattering all about her, the fluttering of tiny creatures floating through her senses. As she stirred, she realized that her body was quite stiff. The... bed she rest on was not fitting for a woman of her size, and she found her legs nearly dangling from the edge, which partnered with a bed of hay, contributed to some of her soreness. Though she had slept on worse, in the past. The Viera woman willed herself to sit upright, giving her muscles a stretch as each activated along the way up. First her back twisted, then her arms lifted to stretch her shoulders. She rolled her head along her neck and brushed away some of her wild hair from her face. The hay she laid in did not help. Bits of yellow strands stuck out from stark white tresses. That was the least of her worries. Her eyes narrowed as she grew used to the lighting, but also because there was a strange dancing creature in front of her. Had someone told her right away they were a moogle, she would have thought them daft and shrugged it off. They were definitely not like the moogles of Ivalice, though their pom did serve as a bit of a resemblance, which made her brow quirk.[break][break]
Not a word was said to the bouncing moogle, though it clearly looked pleased to see her awake. It bounced about in the air, floating this way and that and its movements only increased in glee as she began to eventually stand... if only to try and get away from the creature. She could sense that her body was not completely healed, yet the tightening of her chest as she breathed had gone away. The pain that shot up her leg was gone, yet she still found difficulty standing from the stiffness of her sleep. A simple stretch helped that, and for the most part, Fran felt nearly as good as new. Good enough to venture outside of the small hut, ducking down to make sure her ears did not scrape along the frame. Her eyes scanned the area, and soon did they land on the one thing she was looking for.[break][break]
Fran stepped out fully from the hut, and stood to her full height... which was only a few inches below Josh's, had she not counted her ears. How interesting. She wasn't used to being nearly the same height as a Hume. Fran tensed, her body going rigid, not from being sore or injured; but from a feeling of uneasiness that hit her as she saw the Hume moving about, and beginning to turn toward her. Never one for many words, she did not feel the need to begin to change that. Her eyes simply watched him, his reactions and his movements, just in case she needed to act quickly.

Caius had his fill of looking around for a bit and would decide it was time for a break. He didn't feel like it was a good idea to leave just yet, though. As he didn't know how the Moogles would be able to take care of the rabbit earred woman, he didn't feel comfortable leaving until then. So he waited around, just finding himself sitting back in the fields and staring out at the forest around him. Eventually Vordun would bumble up and rest against him, providing an ample spot for Caius to lie back with his head rested against Vordun's back, with his arms relaxed behind his head. Steadily, Caius began to fall asleep. With the calm, gentle air, the feeling of safety and security... It was almost too easy.
Caius would wake eventually, as a chilly wind hit his face. But it was not that particular thing that woke him, not entirely. No, something had roused his senses. It was a bit of movement, something unnatural, something that wasn't part of the natural order. It was that of a person, who was moving about, the vibrations would wake him, having adjusted himself to be able to unconsciously listen for that sort of thing. Could it have been a large animal? Perhaps. A harmless one? Likely. But Caius' senses didn't discriminate, and he would be back on his feet just in time to stare back at the woman who had approached him. He watched her a moment, seeing as she didn't speak. He extended his fingers, prepared to grab his weapon if need be, but his posture didn't reflect it in order to keep her from getting the idea he was going to attack. He could summon his weapon, but she didn't know that. He stared at her for a few moment without response before speaking. His tone was calm and formal, even as his gaze pierced her eyes.
The air between them felt incredibly tense, especially since she dared not make a sound. Her eyes simply studied him and his movements, and the movements of the beast behind him. Fran was more or less not threatened by the Hume anymore, but that large beast, however...[break][break]
If they had wanted to hurt her, they could have done so while she was asleep and vulnerable. The fact that they did not... And even left her alone... Her shoulders seemed to ease a bit. One ear ticked to the side to keep keen and listen for other sounds while the other remained focused on the Hume and his words... His words which made her nose twitch in slight annoyance.[break][break]
"You've no clue if I am a 'madame'," she finally spoke, her speech lilted with a heavy accent of some kind. "To know of the things I have done, you would not call me madame." Fran rolled her neck, giving it a slight stretch. Back home on Ivalice, she was a notorious sky pirate, rebellious treasure hunter and master of weapons. Those titles she would still go by, but who knew what was ahead for her in this new world. If she could even stick to her old ways.[break][break]
The Viera woman placed a hand on her hip. "What is this place called?" she questioned, her eyes finally peeled away from the blonde man and scanned the surrounding forests and trees. Nothing smelled familiar. This was definitely not her home, now that she got a good look at it. Though that much she had guessed from the start.

"You've no clue if I am a 'madame'," came the first echoes of the tall bunny woman. Her accent was thick as honey, which didn't surprise Caius all that much considering the rest of her. "To know of the things I have done, you would not call me madame."
"Then pick a name" came the blunt reply, which had followed a small raise of his shoulders that indicated a shrug. Madame was the polite term to address a woman when one did not know her name, yes? That was what the culture of Sonora had told him, at least. He was still learning these sorts of social cues and all of that sort, some of which were picking up from where he had left off on Lucis. As a Kingsglaive, he was expected to be all prim and proper, represent His Royal Highness and all that... But his superiors had found his use of language... Lacking, and blunt. But his lessons hadn't been complete by the time he had been sent here. While he knew some formal language, and had picked up some while he was here too... He was still a bit lacking. So if madame was not actually the term he was supposed to use... Or if there were conditions to which it was meant to be used as Hops was seemingly implying... He didn't know any better.
The next question was as to where they were, and he shrugged again. He did that a lot, it seemed. "A forest" He responded, cocking his head slightly as he looked around a moment with just his eyes before they moved back to hers. "These... Creatures found you unconscious. I found myself beholden to your escort duties, and now you're in what I assume to be their village. Though the bobble-head hat creatures look to have saved your life, by the looks of how bad of a shape you were in."
The Viera woman wrinkled her nose. Her first instinct was to deny him her name, as she most likely would not see this man again (or at least, that could have been her desire). However, that would have been if she were back home in her familiar Ivalice. These lands were not familiar. It might be best not to make enemies first thing. Especially if she needed to milk information from him about her whereabouts and if he had seen... certain people. [break][break] After a long silence, a small huff and a crossing of her arms, Fran finally opened her mouth to respond. "Fran," she said simply. Her amber gaze then drifted to the pommed Moogles, whom were still dancing about, yet they seemed itching to speak. [break][break] Fran stayed silent during his explanation. His single, solitary word made her eyebrows furrow. Was he being daft on purpose? Of course she knew they were in a forest, she wasn't blind. But his continued explanation seemed to lessen her aggravation, if only a little. She at least returned to her stoic self and continued to gaze around. The floating creatures seemed rather useless, and in her hazed memory, she recalled the blonde Hume being the one to heal her... If she was in such a bad state as he described, then maybe he deserved a bit more credit than she thought. Fran shifted her weight and looked him straight on. [break][break] "Well, how do we get out of here? Are there other settlements nearby?" Maybe if she found a place inhabited with more people, she'd find Balthier and the Strahl.

It was pretty clear to him from her expression that he wasn't making the best impression. But honestly, it didn't make much difference to Caius. Some people were like that. It didn't matter all that much what you did, they would judge either way. Lamenting on it would be a waste of energy. After a long silence and a rather dramatic huff from the bunny woman, she would give her name. Fran, she said. He nodded his head. "Caius" He responded. He would have normally held out a hand, but he figured she would probably just slap it away, so he kept his distance.
Her next question was to the how to get out of here. As well as if there were any settlements nearby. He nodded his head again. "I think I've seen enough of this forest for the time being, so I'll just lead you out" He spoke up as he looked around, before calling out to something in the distance that he wasn't able to see. "Oi! Vordun! We're heading out!"
While he waited for the lizard to bumble his way over, he looked to the Moogles a moment before bowing his head graciously. "Thank you for your hospitality" He told the Moogles. "We'll return another time. I'll try to remember to bring snacks from the outside world."
He turned to Fran, then. "Torensten is the port city of Serentestra. That's the closest place to here. That's where I would recommend you start. I'll probably be heading back that way myself once we're out of here."
He looked about again for Vordun, until he heard a shifting in the bushes nearby. Out came the overgrown winged lizard, just a bit bigger than the largest of horses. Vordun shook leaves out of his sapphire colored scales as he approached.
"There you are. Let's guide our friend here out of the forest."
To show she was at least listening, her head nodded once in response to his introduction. It'd maybe be a piece of information to hold onto. While they were long from friends, Caius was the first person she had encountered in this strange land and so far, he didn't seem to be terrible. But only time would tell.[break][break]
Her ear flicked to catch any sounds of something approaching after he had called out. Whatever it was seemed to be far off, for she didn't immediately hear anything. Having no belongings, she was made ready in a small amount of time. As Caius thanked the creatures for their hospitality, Fran adjusted her armor and plated boots. She even raked a hand through her hair, which would remain rather unkempt anyway since it was so thick and wild, but she did attempt to smooth it out before she grew annoyed with snagging her nails on the tangles. After the short description of the closest city, Fran nodded. Heading there sounded like an ideal plan.[break][break]
His gaze then shifted to the area around them. She began to listen intently to the rustling of the forest as he looked out for whatever it was he shouted to. It seemed something rather large was stalking through the trees toward them. Her eyes widened slightly and her posture stiffened as the dragon came lumbering through the wood. Her only encounters with dragons or any scaled beasts had always ended in a battle. This time, she was weaponless (though if need be, her claws and heels could do some damage) and that made her a bit anxious. Fran kept her amber eyes on the beast as she asked Caius, "That is your companion"?
