Caius scanned her appearance for a moment, trying to appraise her capabilities. While she left a great deal of her body exposed to attack, she was armored enough for him to think she was most likely a warrior. Celes had her legs exposed, too. Maybe it was so the armor was light enough to move around in quickly? Caius had his warping capabilities, so he didn't need to worry too much about how much his armored jacket weighed him down. But Celes probably had to think of other ways to move quickly. Perhaps it applied here too, with this women? It was possible her fighting style was based on fighting from a distance, maybe magic. Or it could be an athletic style. He'd ask if he had the chance, but he didn't think she would be all that interesting in divulging.
She had grown tense at the sight of the dragon, which didn't surprise him. She asked if the dragon was his companion, and he nodded his head. "Yeah" He responded as he would reach over and scratch behind Vordun's ear. The seemingly vicious dragon would suddenly flop down onto his back and start kicking up his hind leg when Caius scratched his ear, which got an amused smile from the mercenary. At the least, this should show the woman that Vordun was relatively harmless.
"Alright, let's get going" Caius would bring up as Vordun would roll to his feet. Caius motioned for them to follow as he would get walking through the forest.Though it didn't take long for him to start to hear... Something. Vordun heard it first, and nudged Caius, which tipped him off. Caius listened well and heard it soon after.
"Any chance you're any good in a fight?" Caius asked Fran with a curious eye. It was like a mix of rustling and rumbling...
[attr="class","text-area"] Fran no longer questioned whether the beast was a concern. The way it flopped and rolled like a dirty dog made her question its usefulness, however. Though perhaps it gained a point when it alerted his master to the sounds of rustling.[break][break]
She had already sensed it, as well, before Caius was alerted to it. One of her long, slender ears turned to the front and to the side to keep listening as she nodded. "I can hold my own," she responded coolly. Back home, she was known as a Master of Weapons. Highly intelligent, she could pick up just about any weapon and be able to wield it with ease. Though unluckily for her, she did not have a weapon on her. Her claws and heels could do the trick, if her sore muscles would cooperate.[break][break]
Fran looked ahead as they walked through the woods, her focus never once leaving the sounds around them. Her amber eyes gazed all around, mentally preparing herself just in case there was going to be a... situation. "These woods are mysterious," she said aloud, mostly a thought to herself. "Those creatures before were helpful. I sense that is not the case elsewhere."

Well, he was certainly glad that Fran knew how to hold her own, because she was going to have to make use of that before long. Caius looked to Fran and slowly nodded his head as he then closed his eyes. Relying less on his sight and more on his other senses. His sense of touch, his sense of smell, his sense of hearing... And then he could hear it loud and clear. The rumbling and where it was coming from. There it was.
"Vordun!" Caius called to his companion as he would leap back, just as a hole would open up below him. A sharp dagger would stab through where the hole had opened up, narrowly missing Caius' jacket as he would flip through the air, agile despite his size. Caius quickly held out a hand as a sword would materialize in his hands in a swath of blue light. Vordun let out a roar in warning, as more holes would open up and a group of Goblins would emerge, holding daggers, knives and short swords. While the moogles were friendly, these creatures certainly were not.
Caius took a breath, regaining his calm as he would toss his blade forward. Suddenly he would disappear, warping through the air re-appearing to catch his blade, slamming his foot into the torso of one of the goblins in mid-air. The goblin was sent flying back, and Caius would land on his feet. The other goblins weren't happy about this display though, and began to converge on Caius as a whole. There were about six of them in total, counting the one that Caius had just punted into the bushes. Caius didn't seem overly effected by the numbers though. His expression remained that of stone, as he would size up his opponents.
[attr="class","text-area"] As the goblins rose from the ground, true to their nasty nature, Fran remained calm and observed her surroundings while Caius threw the first attacks. She was a bit impressed by his maneuvering; she had never seen anyone whither away and then reappear in such a way before. The way his weapon materialized out of thin air was intriguing, and she watched him with curiosity, though her expression remained steeled.
[break][break]
She too waited for her opening, calm and silent as the goblins went for the more flashy show that Caius put on. When one of the goblins fell, she smoothly swooped in and gathered up its abandoned weapons. Though crude and rather small, the dagger she picked up would have to do. Before leaping back to the sidelines, she made sure to test her accuracy after all she had been through. Her long legs let her sprint up to the goblins with ease, her armored shin collided with it's back. As the wind got knocked out of the goblin, she slide the dagger smoothly across its flesh and it fell, gurgling and groaning out its last breath.
[break][break]
More would surely be after her. Fran jumped back out of the fray and held the dagger up, as if in warning if any came close... or perhaps to goad them to come closer, to see what she was capable of.

Caius remained as calm as could be, his expression never once changing as he gazed to and fro between his opponents. This was how Caius had always operated. Never showing any sort of weakness. Keeping a cool head at all times if he could help it. Keeping control of his emotions, of his expressions... And in turn, of the battlefield. He controlled the pace, he controlled the tempo... And he would in turn control the battle.
He let out a deep breath, steeling himself as his flashy show seemed to attract more of them than there did to Fran. Hopefully, if she was one who could see opportunity, she might backstab one of them to thin their numbers. He noticed she now had a dagger, with how tiny it was it probably belonged to the goblin he'd just punted. Then she began to focus on the ones coming for her.
He watched her fight up until the point that a sword nearly connected with his throat. Cassius suddenly glowed a moment as he whizzed backwards and away from it, adapting the Glaive air control into something he could use on the ground -- even if it was slippery, and risky as a result. This sent him straight into another goblin. As risky as it was, it paid off as he was able to surprise them with a backwards elbow, before turning and hitting the forearm to its crooked, hooked nose. As it reeled back, it gave Caius enough time to catch the blade of another who tried to hit him at the side. Caius knocked the sword upwards before stabbing through the side to down it.
One had tried to go for Vordun instead, but Vordun immediately responded by opening his mouth for a breath. Caius saw the fire glands beginning to heat up...
"No" Caius commanded firmly towards Vordun. "Forest" he brought up, staring him down a moment as he pointed to the trees with his sword. Vordun let out a complaining groan in protest, before just clamping his jaws on the goblin's head.
"Good boy" stated Caius as he caught a sword with his hand. Caius immediately turned and hit the goblin with a resounding headbutt.
Despite each of them dismantling the goblins with ease, their numbers did not cease. And as riveting it was to finally stretch her limbs in a useful way, she did not find fighting these goblins for the rest of the day a pleasant thing to do. The dagger did well for now, but it would grow mucky with the goblin blood in no time.[break][break]
When Fran had a small break in between the waves of annoying goblins, she glanced toward the fire-breathing beast. Her attention changing left her open, but she was able to throw the dagger at the oncoming goblin... Only now that left her without a weapon. But no matter. She tilted her head in the direction of the beast, her gaze landed on Caius, however.[break][break]
"Can it fly?" she asked, experience told her that wings on a creature did not necessarily say it could fly. "Let's go, these will not stop," she offered, once more glancing back to the gathering goblins. She yet again had to use her long limbs to her advantage in order to kick some of them away.

It seemed like no matter how many goblins they killed, new ones just kept popping up. And on top of that, Fran had gone and decided to lose her dagger to some goblin's head. That was just lovely. So it seemed that they would need to figure out a new plan before they became overwhelmed. Fran then decided that maybe it was time they tried to make a getaway atop Vordun. If he could fly anyway.
"-He- can fly" Caius brought up, never being a fan of his lizard partner being referred to as an it or as a beast. And considering that Vordun was wearing a saddle, it was pretty clear that he could fly. Spin-kicking one of the Goblins back, he called Vordun over to him. Vordun responded by chomping off the head of yet another that was swarming him, letting out an annoyed huff, before he got to Caius and he was able to mount the lizard. "Alright, let's go and get our friend. Again" Caius remarked to Vordun as Vordun began bashing everything around him with his tail and claws and jaws, now that he no longer had to worry about harming Caius by accident. Once they managed to get to Fran, Caius held out a hand.
To Fran, it mattered not if the beast had a name, or whether Caius' got offended that she referred to it as such. She seemed not to respond to that little quip, and let it roll off her shoulders. Should she ever refer to the dragon again... Maybe she'd see about respecting his wishes if the beast proved to be useful.[break][break]
After splitting the skull of one last goblin with her armored boot, she quickly grabbed for Caius' hand and gracefully pulled herself up onto the saddle. Straddling it like one should, she settled herself in and used her thighs to squeeze hold of the dragon's side so she would not fall.[break][break]
Once they were in the air, it was apparent that she started to feel more... Relaxed. At home she was, in the skies. As the wind flowed through her wild hair, she closed her eyes. Had she not been covered in muck from the guts of the goblins, this might have been a perfect moment. But once the stench hit her nostrils and was made stronger with the gust around her, she wrinkled her nose. "Already need to bathe a second time, she muttered, running a finger down her collarbone to scoop up some blood, then flicked it away into the air.

Basic respect for one who had contributed just as much to getting out of their predicament as the two humanoids. That was all Caius asked of her. Vordun was a member of the party whether she liked it or not. Regardless, once Vordun was up int he sky, it felt like all the problems had gone away. Both figuratively and literally. While the smell was horrid, it was nothing that Caius wasn't used to. Spending lots of time traveling, and spending lots of time in a daemonic landscape... And a lot of time with a dragon, he was perfectly used to it. He'd need a shower when he returned to Torensten but he could wait.
At least the rabbit woman knew to lock her thighs on the saddle. Rescuing her would have been for nothing if it turned out that at the end she was going to become a splatter on the ground. Caius turned to look back at her once they were safely away from goblin-kind.
"What's your occupation? Assuming you just popped into this place from elsewhere, I can drop you off somewhere that might fit you, if it's not too far" he offered curtly. "Except Sonora. They wouldn't take you on appearance alone. Not that you're dressed for it anyway. Would freeze to death" he brought up. Definitely not Sonora. That would be a problem.
This was the part she hated. Niceties. Asking questions that she preferred not answer. However...[break][break]
Caius had proved his usefulness at least twice now, so perhaps she could afford him a bit of a conversation. She did not need to go into excrutiating detail about herself, but perhaps making a neutral contact in this new world would be a good idea.[break][break]
Fran flicked a bit more blood from her armor before responding. "Treasure hunter," she said simply. There was no way she would admit she considered herself a sky pirate, if he even knew what that was. It was like admitting guilty to a crime she hadn't even committed yet. His idea of dropping her off in a place that was 'suited' to her made her wrinkle her nose. Her amber gaze drifted out toward the sky and thoughts of home swept through her mind. Her home she could not go back to, even if she were to return to that which was familiar. Fran closed her eyes and inhaled the air, letting it fill her lungs fully and completely. If she could live up here, she would. But alas, she was atop a leathery seat, and one that would need to rest eventually. When she finally let her pent up breathe out through her nose, she looked straight ahead. Almost landing her eyes on her company, but looking right past him...[break][break]
"Wherever you land is where I will stay," she spoke, her gaze landing on him now. "I trust you know these lands better than I." And if he dropped her somewhere she did not like, she had legs. She was not opposed to traveling.
