Garnet stood as defiantly as she could, even as the rain lashed down on her, soaking through the flimsy silk of her jumpsuit and making her hair weigh heavily against her back. It was cold and it was vicious, but she refused to look away. This might have been a cruel facsimile, but it was still Alexandria. It might be the last time she ever got to see it, if she didn't find a way back. And she was certain, even if it wasn't her real mother, it was the last time that she would see her too. She had rejected this vision entirely, but she wouldn't turn away. She would watch it go. No matter how much pain it caused her.
The storm was back. The storm that she remembered. But this time, she refused to let it harm her like the flashbacks on the journey to the shrine had done so. She stared up into the storm, even as she saw the eye of the Invincible baring down on her, she refused to look away. She wouldn't let that eye have any control over her anymore. It had taken so much from her, but she had endured. And now it was in her memories, where it would remain. It couldn't hurt her anymore.
And then, just like that, she was out. She seemed to be in a sealed room, with an outline of a door. Before she could even begin to think about opening it however, the room began to flood. Water poured out from a waterfall, and in moments she was soaked, the water level rising quickly past her knees and to her waist. She was reminded of a phrase she had heard the others use on her travels and tried to adopt into her speech patterns; 'out of the frying pan and into the fire'. She wasn't sure it was relevant in this situation, after all, there seemed to be far too much water for anything involving fire or frying, but it crossed her mind regardless.
She spotted the crystal, and waded to it as quickly as she could, pressing it. The door opened, and the water slid away, leaving Garnet to cling to the doorframe to avoid being swept down with it. She waited a moment, until it had gone and everything was calm, and then slowly, shivering slightly, descended the slick steps, being careful as to not slip, her wet tractionless shoes being more of a risk than anything else as she made her way down.
She felt a pang in her heart to see that the shadow of her mother was gone. But the others remained. It seemed that the others were still trapped in their illusions. She supposed she might have been too if she hadn't experienced Memoria. Garnet had seen this type of thing before, but if she hadn't, how tempting would it have been to stay? She couldn't fault them, but she had to try and help them. Two new doors were open, and Garnet took them in. They could be red herrings, but two doors, two people still trapped in the illusion? Could this be the way to go to help them?
She looked at the two doors. No way to know which to pick, of course. And she figured there wasn't really time to debate, so she hurried up the nearest stairway, to see where it took her. Either way, right or wrong, she had to try and see what happened next...

And so, the thing pretending to be her mother spoke. Garnet felt her hands tighten slightly. The voice was so familiar, the body, even the smells of the Alexandrian air, Garnet's own perfume mixing with her mother's in the evening cold, and yet, she knew that this wasn't her mother. Garnet wished that she could say it was because the words were cruel, and they were ones that her mother would never use, but she knew that wasn't true. Her mother's evil had been difficult to accept, and easy to forgive. She was, after all, Garnet's mother. But accept it she had. She understood now, corrupted or not, her mother had been behind so much evil, that she really had become the monster people saw her to be. That didn't change the fact that she had once been loving, nor did it change the fact that Garnet missed her, but she would not be hurt by those words. Not here. Not this time.
"You have made a mistake," Garnet said simply, with a nod of her head. "You make a good facsimile, but I know you are not my mother. My mother, my real mother, was a complicated woman, and my feelings for her no less complicated. For what she did to me, for what she did to my friends and the innocents of Gaia... I... carry a lot of hatred. Hatred that is tempered by my love for her and my memories of the good she did. The person that she was before Kuja's corruption. But... you?" Garnet took a step back, craning her head up to look at the falling water. "You are not her. I look at you, and I see, I hear, the monster my mother became, with none of the love. None of the memories. If you really wished to get to me, you should have become her before, not after." Garnet turned back to face her phantom mother, her face wet from the misty raindrops falling, the thunder and dark sky rumbling. "I thought... perhaps... this could help me. That I could say goodbye. That this was a test, and perhaps that was all I needed to do. But I see now that I was wrong. This is not an opportunity. This is not a vision. And you are just another monster."
"I am Queen Garnet Til Alexandros XVII of Alexandria. I lead a kingdom. People depend upon me. I have travelled among my friends and fought battles you will never understand. And you think that you can take the form of my dead parent to influence me? To corrupt me? I'm not the scared little girl I was on my sixteenth birthday anymore. And you. Are. Not. My. MOTHER!" Garnet was almost as surprised as she expected the phantom was when she drew her staff. But it felt natural. In fact, it felt more than that. It felt cathartic. This was a chance to banish the spectre of her evil mother, to fight back against the dark version that had corrupted everything, and leave only the pure. And if not that, then it was a chance for her to destroy something that dared use her mother to try and haunt her. To dare to reach into her memories and bastardise them in that way.
Overhead, she could hear the thunder and the storm, and she nearly laughed. Was that gunpowder, or real thunder? Did it matter? She could smell the gunpowder and the scent of battle. If it was a battle that this spectre wanted, then Garnet could provide that too. She might be alone, but, well, a summoner was never truly alone? "You're bringing a storm? Thunder and lightning?" Garnet asked. "Would you like to see what real thunder and lightning looks like? You want my eidolons? Here's one for you!! JUDGEMENT BOLT!" Garnet reached up into her magical abilities, and extended out. She reached out for Ramuh. She would call him down upon this fake spectre of her mother and eliminate her. She would smash and tear this entire illusion apart. Garnet couldn't remember the last time she had felt so angry to be used like this, but she wouldn't stand by and let it happen. She wouldn't see this thing, whatever it was, pollute her memories. Zidane had taught her there was a time for words, and a time to fight. And her words had run out...

Garnet listened carefully to his responses and considered. So, it seemed that she wouldn't gain control of his ship, but he would, if she could convince him she was worth having along, allow her to travel with him. If Zidane wasn't to be spotted in any of the major cities, these more adventurous locales Balthier was suggesting certainly sounded like the types of place in which she might find him. Perhaps she was taking the wrong approach to this. Balthier suggested her keeping to herself and the price being more manageable, but she realised that instead she could take a different tact. She looked back at him, trying to project further confidence.
"I'm new to this world. If my experience in the city has told me anything, it's that I doubt that'll surprise you. I don't know these locations of which you speak or where to begin a search myself," she began. "But accompanying you on your hunt could be beneficial to us both," she suggested. This seemed the best approach. If she couldn't hire him as a mercenary, she would sell herself as one. After all, why not? She knew that her skills, while perhaps not flashy and directly useful in battle that often, were very important in most fights. "Am I to understand that this journey of yours is not going to be entirely safe?" she queried. "I have access to a range of white magic. I could be particularly useful to healing and keeping your crew alive and unharmed. Allow me to travel with you, going where you please, and I shall offer my services." She paused, considering that she was probably still sounding too much like a Queen and not enough like Dagger. It had been a while, after all. She allowed herself to relax a little. To be more herself. The person she had discovered herself to be. "I've been in tons of battles, you know? I'm a seasoned pro," she smiled playfully, remembering when she had said those exact words to Marcus so long ago, and his look of incredulity.
"My name's Dagger," she introduced, which made her feel better too. "I'm a summoner too. I could definitely help you," she smiled. She put her hands on her hips and tried to look as confident as she could. "Don't worry, I can take care of myself," she assured him. She hoped that he would accept. She knew that her abilities could be useful, and this seemed the best opportunity that she had.

[attr="class,beatext"]
Darkness surrounded her, and Garnet was alone with only the echo of her heels on invisible steps as she descended further and further into the depths. Her memories were once more cast back to Memoria. There had been a moment when the memories had fallen away, and they had been lost in the endless, inky blackness of the night's sky. There were no stars here, but the feeling was familiar. The feeling that she was approaching something important. She could feel the magic around her. It pulsated through this place, just like it had at Memoria, as if it was a very part of the fabric of the world around her. For a moment, she was worried. What if monsters attacked? The creatures in Memoria had been powerful; too powerful to take alone, but still, nothing came.

And then, slowly, the darkness abated. It disappeared, but gradually. Garnet wasn't sure there was a moment that it was there and then it was gone, it happened so gradually and yet felt so sudden that she wasn't sure if the darkness was just a memory. Her feet now fell on a familiar, luxurious red carpet, and she knew where she was instantly. She didn't have to turn to know what she'd see, but she did anyway, seeing the grand staircase stretching down where she had just descended, no sign of the well, the past, or where she had come from there. She was home, there was no doubt, this was Alexandria. Everything, from the feel of the carpet through her boots to the scent of home in the air; somehow imperceptible, unnoticeable, but unmistakable too, this was Alexandria. Could it be? She couldn't recall how she had come to the strange new world, but could returning be as simple as this? Was she truly... home?

She felt trancelike as she pushed her way through to the balcony, and the familiar site of the city, but it immediately struck her as wrong. She was a Queen, and she knew her Kingdom. Alexandria had been heavily damaged in Bahamut's attack, and while it had been rebuilt, you could see the signs of repair. Garnet was not easily fooled, not anymore, and the city stretching out before her eyes was Alexandria as it used to be. Before the attack. Before her mother had died. Garnet realised that this was home. When she thought of Alexandria, this was the Alexandria she imagined. When she thought, no, when she felt the word home, in her heart, this was the city she saw. Not the repaired Alexandria, not the one that never quite felt right since her ascension to queen, a title that she still wasn't entirely comfortable with, nor Madain Sari, which existed only in her foggiest memories. This. Alexandria, in a time of innocence, before the war, before her mother was corrupted, before all the pain and suffering. This was her home.

But her home was gone. This couldn't be real.

And then she saw her. Her mother. Not Queen Brahne, not the dictator who had brought pain to so many, but her mother. As she existed in her memories. When her mother had been nothing but that, a loving, caring mother. When Garnet's eyes viewed her with a childlike innocence that saw her as perfect. For a moment, her eyes saw her the same way again. All the pain, all the suffering that her mother had caused fell away. She felt her heart skip beats in her chest. She had thought she was ready for this. She had braced herself to see her, to know that this was what this vision might entail, but now that she was standing there, and it all felt so real, she felt her eyes welling up with tears. She wanted to hug her mother and hold her tight and never to leave.

"Mother, I..." Garnet hesitated. Thoughts crossed her mind. Alexandria, this place, it felt so real. Who's to say it wasn't? She had travelled worlds, who was to say the crystal couldn't also send you back in time? Who was to say that this wasn't real? That she couldn't... with the right words, stop everything that had happened? She would never meet Zidane. She would never learn all the things she had learned. But she'd save so many lives. She'd save her mother...

No. This wasn't real. She remembered coming here, she remembered the crystal, being with Tellah and Quistis. She was more certain than ever that this was a test. A trial. One she had to pass for the good of everybody she had left behind. She stood uneasily, but raised her head.
"I would like to thank you," she said solemnly, craning her neck up as if to speak to a higher power.. "I... do not know who or what you are, but... you have given me a rare opportunity. To see my mother again. I..." she hesitated, her eyes moving to her mother. They were damp with emotion, but she spoke with determination, every part the Queen forcing out words that she knew had to be said. "Mother, I love you. I miss you every single day. And I shall always remember you. Perhaps in time I shall also forgive you for all that you did. I... do not know. But I do know this, real or not, this is my opportunity to say it, so... I love you. I am sorry that I could not save you. I will... do everything in my power to live up to your memory as Queen. Thank you, for everything you taught me, for all the love that you showed me." She walked towards her mother, trembling a little. Even as she spoke, every part of her body wanted to surrender, to hug her mother, to fall back into being that little girl safe in the place she called home. But she wasn't that anymore. She had to remember it. "I... still do not understand what happened to you. I am... sorry, that I did not see it sooner. Perhaps... I could have stopped it. I could have... saved you from the greed that took your heart but... I cannot change the past, no matter how much I may wish it. I am sorry that I failed you mother, but..." she paused again. "I thank you for the opportunity to say what I could not on the beach that day. Goodbye, mother. You shall always be a part of me. I will carry you in my heart forever." And then, moving with great effort, Garnet turned away, moving back towards the exit. To find a way out. She couldn't stay here. If she stayed any longer, she'd never want to leave, and she couldn't allow that to happen...
The information Caius gave her took her several moments to process. He said that people had been displaced from their world to this one. Was she on a whole other world? She shook her head, trying to recall what had happened. She couldn't remember how she'd arrived in the swamp, nor what she had been doing just before. She could remember it being her eighteenth birthday, being reunited with Zidane, feeling so happy, but then things became blurry. There was no moment of being transported. No moment of her world changing. She remembered the journey to Terra much more clearly. It had been exciting, exhilarating even, for a moment she had felt like she was flying, and then she was there, in Terra. She had no such memories here. No such plan to change worlds. And this was most certainly not Terra, not that it could be. That world had been destroyed...
Garnet looked curiously over to Caius, unsure what to say for a moment. "You... say that this is another world from our own?" She had questions. How did he know she came from another world too? Did he just recognise her circumstances? "No... You said, our own worlds... In the plural sense. You are not from Gaia?" she inquired. That would make sense. He didn't know who she was. It wasn't vanity that she wasn't recognised, she knew he might not know her by sight, heck, it was a fact she had depended upon on her travels, but after all that had happened, she wasn't sure there was anywhere left on Gaia where the name Garnet Til Alexandros was not known, for better or for worse.
"I know that it may be difficult to believe, but this is not my first time travelling to another world. But... in the last instance, it was intentional, and I understand both how I came to be there and how I returned." Well, she mostly understood. She wasn't sure there was anybody on Gaia who fully understood how the Invincible had worked. But here she had no such plan, no purpose, and no idea where her friends were. Was she here alone? Or had Zidane and the others come through somewhere else?
(...Torensten?)
He mentioned a place. Hopefully it was a town. If it was nearby, it would be the logical place for everybody to gather. She nodded. "Thank you," she said, for his offer of escort. "Don't worry about the qualities of the accommodations. I may be a Queen, but I promise you, I'm more experienced in travel than my current attire might suggest," she smiled politely. "You probably notice that I don't even talk like a Queen. I spent a lot of time on the road and undercover," she said, all the while while sounding an awful lot like a Queen, but, well, it was Garnet. She had never quite mastered the common tongue as much as she liked to think. At least not in accent.
"Please, lead the way, and tell me about this Torensten. If you're familiar with it, I assume that you have been here for a while..." For a moment, she was reminded of those early days travelling with Zidane, when he had seemed to know everywhere and she had no idea. She felt like the naïve princess stepping outside her castle for the first time, and not the experienced traveller she had become.

Garnet watched as Mikoto turned to leave. She should have just let her go, given that everything Garnet tried to say made things worse. She was trying her very best to connect, to make Mikoto understand, but maybe that was her mistake? Maybe trying to force Mikoto to see things her way was her error. She thought it was so simple, she didn't feel like her point of view should have been controversial, that it should have raised questions, but here they were. Apparently wanting to see a genocidal maniac put on trial was something they couldn't agree on. Apparently thinking that a man who had murdered billions should be punished wasn't something they'd see eye to eye on. It was so difficult to understand...
"Mikoto, wait," she dashed forward, wanting to stop her. "Listen, I don't want to kill Kuja-" she paused. Was that a lie? There was certainly a part of her that wanted to see him dead. A very large part of her. But she was a healer by nature. She believed in helping those in need, not murdering people. "I... won't pretend that I would be sad to hear he had passed. Not after all he has done to me. But... standing trial does not mean execution. As the Queen of Alexandria, I don't wish to see anybody executed. I have been imprisoned too many times, my friends have been imprisoned too many times, I wish to see justice done. Life imprisonment. Somewhere where Kuja can pay for his crimes without dying," she explained. That was without saying that Zidane wouldn't want to see him dead either. But her words were true as well, a capital punishment felt wrong after facing it so many times herself, or seeing her friends face it.
"You can understand why. Just... stay safe, and do not trust him," Garnet warned, before sighing again. This was getting them nowhere. "I am glad that we are friends, though," she smiled softly. It was about the best that she could offer, given the situation.

"Sometimes, Mikoto, there is a difference between hearing and listening," Garnet said, trying to sound delicate as she approached the matter. She had no doubt that Mikoto had heard the words she had said. She just wasn't sure that Mikoto had understood them at all. But, she supposed, perhaps Mikoto was right. She was looking for similarities between the two when there weren't any. Maybe she was wasting her time in trying. She wasn't sure why she felt so compelled to try. Maybe it was because Zidane would have done the same thing, or maybe it was because she knew that Mikoto had in her the same power Kuja had, and she desperately wanted to prevent Mikoto walking down that path.
"I think... in the end, we all had more similarities than we cared to admit," Garnet admitted when Mikoto asked if there were similarities between the ones she travelled with. "We may have been different, we may have had different skills, but we had the same goal. We worked together because, beneath all our differences, beneath our different abilities, we all believed in the same thing. Otherwise, I am not sure we would have worked together as well as we did," she explained. She could see Mikoto's point, but Garnet still believed that deep down, everybody in their team had been inherently good, and seen the evil in Kuja. Even Amarant, even if he wouldn't quite admit it.
She asked about what her and her 'companions' had done to Terra, and again, Garnet found herself trying to understand Mikoto. "We never wanted to harm Terra, Mikoto. We didn't destroy it, we didn't cause any harm to it, not intentionally. All we did was try to save our world and defend those who mattered to us. Garland wanted to control Zidane and attacked us. We defended ourselves. As did Kuja. Terra's destruction was Kuja's fault. There could have been a way to save your world, if only Kuja, if only Garland, had come to us offering peace, instead of destruction. If the forces of Gaia had known an entire world was in danger, we would have done everything we could to find a way to save it. Even if we couldn't save the planet, we'd have offered a new home to your people, with no bloodshed, or death. Our actions show that, that even after everything that happened, we still found a home for the genomes..." Garnet explained, wishing that Mikoto would understand. The loss of Terra must have hurt so much, Garnet knew the feeling when she saw Alexandria burn, but she also wanted Mikoto to blame the right person. Kuja and Garland had destroyed Alexandria, and then destroyed Terra. They had a common enemy. Why could Mikoto not see that?
"I don't know, Mikoto, but Kuja isn't like you or other Terrans. Look at how he dresses, how he thinks, he has... a different mind. He's far more Gaian than you might ever expect. Without a purpose, I'm sure he'll find one, and I doubt it'll be much good for us when he does. Maybe he'll want revenge, or maybe just more power now that he's lost his position both on Terra and Gaia. I don't know, but he's an evil man, and I know he will do something. He should be arrested and stand trial for his crimes and all the death he caused. We cannot let him walk free," Garnet knew her words were useless. Mikoto was right that Kuja had, in a manner, freed the genomes, but it hadn't been his goal. If it had been left to Kuja, they would have all died. It was Zidane and Garnet and the others who had saved them all. Why couldn't Mikoto see that?
Finally, Mikoto asked about her mother, and Garnet gave a sad smile, looking at the ground. She fiddled with her pendant for a moment, before releasing it, and returning her gaze to Mikoto. "Oh, Mikoto, don't you understand? That did happen to me. My mother... The damage she caused, the actions she took, I ran away from home because of it. I stood against her when it mattered the most. And yes, sometimes I made mistakes. I returned to her side at a time when I shouldn't, but only because I believed she would listen to reason. I still knew her actions were evil and I wished to persuade her otherwise. And when it became clear that I could not, I... fled again," she went on. Okay, that wasn't strictly true, she was rescued after her mother tried to drain her Eidolons, but she would have fled if she had been able. That had been the moment even Beatrix had realised how wrong her mother had been.
"If my mother was still alive, even if Alexandria was gone, I would..." Garnet hesitated. What WOULD she do? "I would not need your warning to be careful around her. I would know to do so. I would not wish to see her dead, but I would wish to see her stand trial for her crimes. You do not need to wish Kuja dead, but you should also understand how dangerous he is and the crimes he has committed. As I did with my mother," she explained. "I know how hard it can be. I have seen my home burn... twice. My entire village was destroyed when I was only a child, and then I had to watch the kingdom I was supposed to protect burn as well, and I was powerless to stop it. But evil is evil, no matter who is committing it. That was true of my mother, and it is true of Kuja." She suspected this would be another case of Mikoto hearing without listening, but she had to try.
"It is my pleasure to assist you, Mikoto. I would like to be friends, even if we sometimes disagree," Garnet offered with a smile. It was the best she could. She couldn't change Mikoto today, but perhaps, by offering friendship, she could, one day, change her point of view. Both Kuja and Zidane showed that genomes could evolve beyond their basic instincts. She knew that Mikoto would get there one day.

Garnet supposed Balthier's response to her was understandable. She was aware that she had a somewhat shy manner when speaking to strangers, something she had tried to shake as much as she could now that she was a Queen, but it was still there at times. Especially when she wasn't confident. And to him, the idea that she was seeking transportation must have seemed like any young girl wanting to get from one city to another. His suggestion to find another airship made sense. But only because he didn't know the truth of what she was after, or why she had come to him.
"They travel between cities. I am not looking for transportation to a location," Garnet answered rather simply, trying to find a little more of her courage and queenly status in her voice. She paused, feeling rather foolish for a moment, but deciding to press on regardless. "I am looking for somebody. I believe I will be able to search more effectively from the air with an airship that will travel where I need it to go," she explained. She knew she would have to convince him she was more than the meek girl he seemed to think she was. "On... previous adventures I have had, an airship proved invaluable in our travels. I believe it could assist me here," she went on, hoping that by dropping that this was not her first adventure, she would be able to win some respect from the sky captain.
"I would... prefer to wait and ensure that your vessel is prepared to fly," she confessed when he offered her the option. "I do not know yet where my path will take me, but... as you say, it is... off the beaten track..." Beaten track? She would remember that one. No matter how much slang she thought she picked up, she was always surprised to hear new phrases, but she knew they were useful to add to her vocabulary. "I am sure if the person I seek was in any of the main cities by now I would have heard word of him, so... I feel travelling elsewhere is my only option," she elaborated, hoping that he would understand.
"There's definitely something here, but... it's stuck to the strings. I can't remove it," Garnet spoke as she examined the strings inside the piano. They were silvery, and strange looking to her. Unfortunately, she didn't recognise electronics. It was an unfamiliar concept to her, but they certainly seemed strange. They reminded her perhaps of a small gadget her Uncle Cid would have invented, but there was no obvious source of power, and they were too small. "There's four of them," she confirmed to anybody listening.
She turned to look at the dented emblem above the fireplace, which Rufus had highlighted as a clue, luckily removing her hands from the piano as she did so. He was right, it seemed unusual, but what did they know of the owner of this manor? Perhaps disarray was something he enjoyed. After all, that would explain why the piano was stored open, wouldn't it?
She was about to voice this thought when there was a sudden crash, and a body dropped down beside her, slamming onto the grand piano and forcing it shut. Garnet shrieked in surprise, jumping out of her skin and leaping backwards. Her hands went to her mouth in started shock, and she was acutely aware of her heart thudding away in her chest, hammering against her rib cage with desperation. For a moment, all seemed silent. She waited, half expecting the body to spring back to life, but it didn't. She slowly approached the body, peering at it with caution. It was healed. How odd. Why would somebody heal the wounds of somebody who was dead?
Unless it was to cover their tracks.
The young woman suggested that they not move too much to not lose any clues on their body, but Garnet shook her head. "You are right that we are also clues, but there is still a killer on the loose. We must be careful," she suggested, looking up to see if she could see where the body had come from. Her heart was still hammering, and she desperately wished it'd calm down. She thought she had seen enough death in her life, but here she was, before another body. "His wounds are healed," she observed. "There would be no point in casting white magic on a corpse... Unless the wounds were a clue you wished to hide. They must have told us something about the killer," she theorised, but she wasn't quite sure what any of that meant.

Garnet was not, she was aware, an expert on airships. Oh, she'd travelled on enough of them in her time. The Red Rose, obviously, the Hilda Garde III, the Invincible, even that little rickety airship that had spirited them to Lindblum... She still remembered them all. She remembered taking the controls of the tiny rickety airship, the Black Waltz hot on their tail, aiming to fly through the gates... They were so massive, closing so slowly, and yet, all of it felt so small, like the slightest hesitation, the slightest ill-adjustment, and she'd crash the airship into it. Despite that, she remembered her determination to succeed, and if she was entirely honest, maybe a little thrill at doing so.
It wasn't like she had aspirations to be an airship pilot, and maybe part of the thrill had been proving herself useful, knowing that she had a job to do and seeing it done, but she had enjoyed it. There had been a few times on the Hilda Garde III too where she'd sneakily asked to try the controls and practice flying the ship, but not properly. And no matter if she'd held the ship's wheel once or a thousand times, she still had no idea how they worked. Even less so here where there was no mist and they ran on what she could only assume was some form of magic. Much like the Invincible for that matter. She still had no understanding of how that worked either.
Despite all of this, however, she was fairly certain that the airship parts where supposed to be inside the airship. She overheard the man speaking to himself in an accent that wouldn't have been out of place among the Alexandrian court nobles, particularly how proud of himself he seemed to be. Which, again, given that the innards of the airship were scattered around Garnet was not sure was an achievement. Still, she was seeking a pilot, and one who had to rebuild his own engine would be affordable.
If only the ship would actually fly, she thought hopefully.
"Excuse me, would you be.... Captain Balthier?" she asked cautiously, from the edge of the airship dock. It wasn't that Garnet was over-whelmingly prissy, despite what people might think of her as a Queen, but she didn't particularly want to get engine grease on her silky orange outfit. Replacement clothes were hard to come by with her resources so limited, and besides, wanting to keep clean was hardly anything to be ashamed of, was it? "I am... seeking transportation on an airship, and have heard your name mentioned." Her eyes moved to the engine, and she found herself nervously playing with the pendant around her neck. She wasn't sure why she felt so uneasy, but maybe it was the thought of being up in the air in an airship rebuilt by hand?
No, that was nonsense. The old airship that had transported them to Lindblum had proven to be a reliable and faithful steed. In fact, Garnet almost missed the old thing, and this airship looked much more powerful than that. "I can... return if this is a bad time?" she suggested, eyeing the engine still.
