[attr="class","ayab-text"] Was it bad to just want to reach out and pinch his cheeks? Because Aerith was so sorely tempted to reach out and pinch his cheeks. Seymour was quite bashful in his own way whenever he felted embarrassed over something. It allowed her to know that he was still growing used to social interactions with others. Aerith could greatly empathize with him over an isolated childhood. Her formative years had been spent within the labs of Shinra where her mother would be taken away each day for experiments while she only had her crayons and blank sheets of paper to keep her company. Well, that was not entirely true. The voices within the lifestream had also been able to speak with her at times to give more life to her drawings. [break][break]
"I'm sure we can find something that will keep you warm," Aerith reassured with a smile. Now she was eager to watch Seymour as he sampled the piece of cheesecake on his plate. The skeptical look he sent her way had her giggling again as she merely quirked her brow at him in a silent challenge. There was no possible way he would dislike the sweet treat! The young woman was quite pleased when she saw the puzzled expression on his face after the first bite before shock settled in. As if he could not quite believe that he did enjoy the treat when she had known that he would! A touch of smugness tinged her lips as she grinned at Seymour. [break][break]
Her expression morphed into a thoughtful one as he mentioned Spira once more. It really did sound like a more simple world compared to her own where Shinra had brought forth many technological conveniences. All derived from the harnessing of the lifestream to power such marvels. No, Spira sounded much more ecologically friendly than Gaia had been at the time. "I'm quite glad you enjoyed it! Experiencing new things can be really worthwhile," she stated firmly. "There's probably one nearby if we look around. Cities tend to have almost everything you need within just a city block of you!" [attr="class","ayab-text"] Watching Quistis work in securing the ladder was quite something! Aerith did not believe she would have been able to do so as steadily as the other woman had even with the aid received from the sailors! It was not as if she had not climbed up steep heights before. But her physical prowess was somewhat lacking and she did not have the ease of movement her friends held. Cloud had also been keen to keep an eye on her whenever she tended to lose her footing, which was more often that she liked to admit. Once Quistis had secured the ladder, she curled her hand into a fist before raising it above her head and shouting cheerfully at the other woman. [break][break]
What really had her laughing was when Tellah turned himself and Bartz into toads after all. The older man seemed perfectly at ease with his form while Bartz was ribbiting with what seemed like terror. As if he did not know what to make of himself as she fell into a fit of giggles at the sight. "You poor thing~" she cooed with another laugh. Her humor began to ease when she noticed both toads had chosen to settle by her as Bartz even attempted to jump onto her shoulder. Well, it seemed she would be bringing up the both of them with her. "I guess I'm bringing both of you up with me. I promise I won't drop either of you!" [break][break]
With that said, she scooped Bartz up and gently placed him within her jacket pocket before zipping it up to ensure he stayed inside. Aerith did the same with Tellah before walking over towards Garnet with an encouraging smile on her lips. "I think casting Float on yourself is a good idea if you're nervous with climbing. I'll go next and help you up, alright? Just stay close to me~" Her green eyes were warm as she winked at the younger girl before proceeding to climb up the ladder. It took more effort with the rain and the care to make sure she did not lose her footing, but she was up there with Quistis in a few moments. [break][break]
Turning around, she knelt down to extend her hand down to Garnet should the younger woman need the aid after all.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] The telescope was a little difficult to use as she was unused to such a thing, but she was quite happy when she did manage to find something worthwhile. There seemed to be a flat landing where she could make out what appeared to be a cave entrance. She noted the lack of a natural curvature within the opening, which meant that the inside of that cave had been carved out by man's hand. What was disappointing was that she could not make out an easy means of getting up here. It looked like Tellah would be turning them all into toads so they could hop up there. Oh, what she would give for a mastered piece of wind materia. [break][break]
Once she was sure she could spot everything worthwhile, Aerith tucked the telescope beneath her arm and began climbing back down. Her hands burned somewhat from the soaked rope beneath her fingers. As she idly began to heal the mild rope burns from her palm, she walked back to the group with an expectant smile. "I managed to spot a man-made cave about two-third of the way up from where we are now. But, well, the tricky part is climbing up to get to it. There's a flat landing we can stand on when we do get up there, though~" So, everything was not too bad, right~?[break][break]
Did this mean it was time to turn Bartz into a toad? Was it wrong of her to look forward to that? [break][break]

[attr="class","ayab-text"] The lurch of the ship nearly had her stumbling into Garnet, but she quickly righted herself before that could happen. The younger woman looked flustered enough as it was with a group of people crowding around her. Her green eyes strained to see through the rain as she also listened to what was being said. Their ship had managed to find where they needed to be, but there was a problem with being able to access this temple. How would they be able to do so, then? Did that mean they needed to climb wet, slippery rocks? There were so many reasons on why that was a terrible idea to begin with. Did the ship have any sturdy rope and something to grasp the rocks with? [break][break]
She checked the bangles that lined her wrists, but she had not had Wind materia equipped to her before winding up in this world. A soft sigh escaped her, because that would have proven quite useful. If nothing else, she may have been able to lift all of them with a well-controlled aero spell. It seemed Bartz had his own idea as he grasped at Tellah's amulet and began..shouting at it? The older man was quite agitated by the action and she found that she could not blame him all that much. "I don't think shouting at a bracelet is going to help much," she replied with an amused smile. If nothing else, it had made her laugh just a little! [break][break]
"I'm sorry, but my magic doesn't quite work like that. Perhaps one of the sailors has a telescope we can use? Some sturdy rope and hooks to dig into the rocks would be useful as well if we do need to climb. I'll gather the materials!" With a bright smile, she clapped her hands together with a firm nod before spinning on her heel and doing just that. Aerith busied herself with asking the nearby sailors for a few supplies to hopefully aid them. Luckily, these sailors had come prepared! A sailor would be a poor one indeed if they had not packed a telescope on their ship to help chart their course. Just in case, she also asked for a compass just in case they got lost as they explored this temple. [break][break]
"But if you do turn Bartz into a toad, then I can turn him back at least! Just make sure not to get blown into the ocean~" Her lips were quirked into an amused smile before she gently laid out some of the supplies she had gathered. The bundles of rope would prove useful to whoever decided to climb along those rocks. As for herself? Well, Aerith tucked the telescope beneath her arm and readied herself to climb to the top of the mast. Strength was not her best point, but she could manage! When she had reached a respectable height up, she unfolded the telescope and began to seek out a possible entrance within the jagged rocks to make use of. Or, well, hopefully something that would aid them in getting into the temple. [break][break]

[attr="class","ayab-text"] It was really, really cold! And wet![break][break]
Aerith was already shivering almost violently on the deck of the ship as she pondered her life choices and her insatiable need to help even when she did not have to. But, well, she was here to help and there was no backing out on that choice now! Well, she could, but she doubted she could swim back to Torrenstein without drowning as soon as she jumped overboard. The last time she had been on a ship had been when she had left Junon cross the ocean to Costa del Sol. That voyage had been done in secrecy as her entire party had disguised themselves in sailor garb to chase after Sephiroth in their quest to stop him. And then a remnant of Jenova had been on the ship to defeat, and here she was doing something similar. Well, hopefully, there would be no Jenova remnant to contend with. [break][break]
The heavy weight of her hair was plastered against her cheeks and her braid fell limp against her back as her pink dress clung to her slender frame. At least her red bolero helped to anything see-through from showing as she continued to quake in her boots and sorely wish she had an umbrella to hide beneath. Then again, why was she standing here like a drowned rat? Aerith could very well go back beneath the deck after all! But she had wanted to see if any progress had been made in finding this Water Shrine. A big nope to that question! [break][break]
Huffing a little, she noticed a few others gathering to crown around a young woman with dark hair. Her fellow adventurers that she had yet to introduce herself to. It was unlike her to be so quiet and introverted, but she supposed the weather had distracted her along with her worries about the ship crashing and all of them sinking into the seas to become ghosts. But she began to make her way over with a friendly smile and a cheerful aura as she pushed aside her discomfort for the moment. "Oooh, the ship is being captained by a pirate? How exciting! I wonder if we'll find treasure in the temple, too!" she greeted with a laugh. [break][break]
Her hands were clasped behind her back as she leaned forward with an easy smile for all of them. "My name's Aerith! Pleased to meet all of you!" As she looked up towards the clouded sky, Aerith wondered if a barrier spell would work at blocking the continuous rainfall. No, she really should conserve her magical energy for when it was needed. [break][break]
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Already she could see Cloud overthinking everything she had just told him. A mild sound of exasperation escaped her as she resisted the urge to lightly poke his forehead. "Just listen to my voice. You're real and everything around you is real," she said calmly. The young woman remembered quite well how faulty Cloud's memories had been when she had left the group and his periods of silence over a particularly sensitive matter. It seemed that her own differing recollections had set off a similar reaction. What did it all mean? Had she been plucked from a vital moment in a different stream of time? Such a thing seemed so impossible but it could not be with how they were both here on this different world. [break][break]
A playful laugh escaped her as Cloud began to shake his head at her request only to smile for her anyway. "See? Was that so hard? A smile really can make most things better!" Aerith was relieved to see some of that anxious tension drain from his expression. Oh, there were still plenty of questions to seek answers for, but what really mattered was the present moment. Nothing could be addressed right at that moment beyond just trying to fit some of these jigsaw pieces together. Living in the present meant more to her than trying to hurtle herself into an unknown future. The past could not be changed and the future was ever-changing. But the present? Well, she would rather exist as she was at this moment right now and know she had experienced everything she could. The good and the bad. [break][break]
Or could it be changed? No, Aerith would rather not think on such mindboggling matters at present! "That's what I'm here for! To be a voice of reason and to make you smile whether you want to or not." Her own voice was warm as she smiled up at him brightly. Her head tilted to the side when Cloud mentioned even more to tell her. A small hum of understanding escaped her before she slowly shook her head with another smile in place. There was never an ending to the story, was there? [break][break]
"Well, I'm not going anywhere. Tell me as much as you'd like or none of it at all. You're still Cloud to me at the end of the day," she reassured. Goodness knew she still did not understand all of her own past. The knowledge of her people had been limited at best and what she did know was from what she had learned at Cosmo Canyon and from her mother in childhood.

Aerith was doing her best to restrain her laughter at Seymour's question on what a cheesecake was. It did sound quite silly for anyone to hear the first time, but it still surprised her just how sheltered her new friend was. Did Spira not have restaurants or cafes for people to eat out at? A part of her wished to ask to satiate her curiosity. No, there would be a better time to ask that question when he felt more comfortable about revealing more of his past to her. She could be forward but even she had some restraint when it mattered! Well, most of the time at any rate. [break][break]
The waiter had brought their food over rather quickly, but she was not too surprised. Most of these foods had been premade to serve throughout the day and sandwiches were easy enough to put together. Her green gaze settled on the mug of hot chocolate placed before her as she immediately reached for the divine beverage. Aerith allowed herself to be rather quiet for once as she simply observed Seymour try the drink first from what she had ordered for them both. She carefully took a long sip from her own mug as she made sure to keep any of the whipped cream from her face. [break][break]
The young woman nearly snorted into her mug when she noticed Seymour had missed the spot of whipped cream on his nose. Should she say something? It would be so amusing to just allow him to speak with it there. No, she should be a good friend and point it out to him. He would be so terribly embarrassed if someone else pointed it out to him before she did. Raising her finger, she tapped her own nose with an impish smile. "Missed a spot~" Placing her mug down, she reached to try the sandwich next to satiate her hunger. [break][break]
"Mm, hot chocolate is a great way to warm yourself! The city can be a bit colder than more open areas. You get used to it the longer you stay, though. This city is much more open than Midgar, at least." There were no slums beneath the plates to struggle beneath each day as the denizens that lived there continued to thrive as best as they could. No, there was no steel sky here to hide away beneath and grow accustomed to. Humming thoughtfully for a moment, she shook herself from her musings as she slyly slid the plate of cheesecake over to Seymour. "Try just one piece? I just know you'll like it!" [break][break]

The protest went unheeded as she merely glanced over her shoulder at Seymour and winked with an impish smile in place. Nope! He was going to be bought a decent meal and he would like it! Goodness knew his stomach would certainly thank her for her generosity if he would not! There was such a resignation to him that reminded her of Cloud when she had first met him. As if he was not quite sure what to make of her but had resigned himself to his fate of being lead around by her. Were all men with the 'stoic' persona going on just prone to falling prey for her headstrong ways? Well, it made things easier for her! [break][break]
Aerith was hit with the scent of hot cocoa and freshly baked pastries the moment she opened the cafe door and she was sure anyone could see the hearts in her eyes. Fresh food! Honest-to-goodness fresh food that did not consist of rations of the haunting eyes of wildlife that continued to guilt her in her dreams. There were not too many people within the cafe for which she was grateful. Seymour still appeared to get somewhat overwhelmed when near too many people and this was a much smaller space than outside in the city. A quiet hum of amusement escaped her at the rumbling of her companion's stomach once more. [break][break]
Peering up at him, she was quick to smile again as she resisted the urge to poke him in the stomach just for a laugh. "That's why I'm here. I am your tour guide and aficionado on all things pastry-related to quell your hunger~" What would be the best thing to start off with? Something simple was often best for those unfamiliar with sweets. Aerith glanced back up at the menu as she took a few moments to figure out what to order them. Pastries were great but something more filling was also needed! [break][break]
Stepping up to the counter, she smiled brightly at the cashier before listing her order, "Two ham and swiss paninis, two medium-sized hot cocoas with whipped cream, and two slices of cheesecake, thank you!" With that settled, she paid the cashier before returning to Seymour and leading him over to an empty table. "Now we just wait for them to bring us our food."

Aerith made a noise of acknowledgment at Seymour's statement. Sadly, there would always be rudeness and ignorance no matter where in the world one went. Or, well, another world entirely in this case! "But there are good people, too! You just need to keep an open mind and be optimistic about it," she stated firmly. Her lips soon curled into a smile as she resisted the urge to pat Seymour on the head. The youth was several inches taller than her as she barely stood at his chin in height. Sometimes she really wished she could have grown just a little taller! Then she could get angry without everyone laughing at her instead of taking her seriously! Wow, where was her train of thought even going at this point? [break][break]
The number of people that passed them by did not bother her, but she could see that it was overwhelming for Seymour. Aerith wondered how much of his life he had spent alone. It seemed an obvious thing to her, especially as she had spent several days traveling with him. Small mannerisms and evident ones. He relied quite heavily upon himself and no one else, he seemed to shy away from personable interactions with strangers, and he could be prone to anger when faced with something triggering. All of those were reasonable things! The young woman just hoped she was not introducing him too quickly to everything within Sonora. It could be quite a culture shock to those used to living a solitary or quiet life. [break][break]
The loud grumbling of Seymour's stomach had her giggling before she could help herself. Well, someone was eager to sample actual food for a change! Traveling rations really were not that filling and Aerith felt immense guilt whenever she attempted to hunt for food. Just--how could she not when a rabbit or deer would stare at her with such betrayal in their eyes? A hum of amusement escaped her as Seymour obviously tried to divert attention away from his grumbling stomach. "I can show you a nearby inn that will allow you to earn your keep in exchange for a room!" Emerald eyes glittered as she quickly darted in front of him and leaned forward with a knowing grin in place. "Buuuut I know for a fact you need some food! Follow me~" [break][break]
Already she was walking forward to a nearby cafe to satisfy both of their empty bellies. The aroma of freshly baked bread and sweets beckoned her forth like a siren call she had no desire to ignore. "My treat!"

The complete awe upon Seymour's face was quite amusing and rather touching to see. Aerith had spoken to him at length about what she knew about technology and her own experiences within Midgar to hopefully quell a little of his insatiable curiosity about it. What she had learned from him spoke of a world that abhorred such technological advances and seemed rather simplistic in their lifestyles. In all honesty, it reminded her of her own people and how they had always traveled the planet without settling anywhere for too long. Oh, there were some settlements for a more permanent residence, but her people had always relief on what Gaia gave to them and returned the favor by listening to the will of the planet and tending to its needs. [break][break]
But she was a city girl at heart and had always loved the steel sky. The word beyond Midgar had been a terrifying aspect for her when she had been forced with the group to leave Midgar. The endless expanse of that sky and the unknown possibilities it had all meant for her. Her ancestors had traveled Gaia as nomads and she had always stayed within one place for nearly the entirety of her life. Her smile was wide when she saw Seymour staring at her now in disbelief as they both ignored the insipid comments of the strangers. Honestly, so what if he was gawking like a tourist? It was not as if he was hurting anyone by doing so! Aerith wondered if Seymour had led a sheltered life as she had as a young girl. He had not been too eager to speak of his personal past and she had not pressed upon the matter. [break][break]
"For the most part, yes. We can use these machines without fear. Of course, some can be dangerous if used in the wrong way, but the same can be said for magic, too." Technology could be a very dangerous thing when placed in the wrong hands. Shinra had been killing the planet in their pursuit of easy convenience and taking over the world. The sudden appearance of a motorcycle caught her attention and she reached out to steady Seymour as he stumbled a little. "That was called a motorcycle. It's faster than even a chocobo, but I think I prefer riding a chocobo. They're just so cute! A dear friend of mine even has hair that resembles one a little!" [break][break]
It was easy for her to see that Seymour struggled with anger quite a bit. Aerith was glad that he calmed himself and simply muttered his displeasure. "The people here can be rude and rather ignorant to anything that happens beyond their own lives. Try to roll with the punches as much as you can. But I'll be here to help you through it." People hardly saw past their own issues and stresses to look to others and even to the troubles plaguing the world. Aerith was guilty of doing so until she had been swept away with Cloud and the rest of Avalanche and their race to save Gaia. Life had a way of being so unpredictable at times.
