[attr="class","ayab-text"] That was all Aerith could really ask for. An attempt at answers for what this place was and why Cloud was acting the way he was. What had happened in her absence? For herself, it had only been a few days since she had seen him, but it seemed to be a lifetime to her friend. Aerith took in the various sights as he lead her into the industrial park--it reminded her very much of the park in Sector Six. An old, rusted thing that had served as a hideaway for her as a young girl and in her adolescent years. There was grafiti and trash and rust on nearly every surface. It reminded her so much of Midgar that she found herself aching for it. "So, the will of this planet is to grab whomever it can from different worlds? But...how can this planet survive without a lifestream?" [break][break]
That was what boggled her mind the most. The lifestream was the collective consciousness and blood of Gaia--it created life and in return absorbed the knowledge that those precious lives had gained. A harmonious cycle her people had been the stewards of for countless years before tragedy struck. Now she was the only remnant left and now she could not even find comfort in her bloodline. There were no voices to guide her forward, nor was there the familiar hum of the lifestream beneath her feet and all around her. This world was eerily silent and it left her feeling more vulnerable than she had in a long, long time. [break][break]
She sat down beside Cloud and placed her hands upon her lap before looking to Cloud. Missing memories? A thoughtful hum escaped her as she considered her own mind for a moment. Was she missing anything? No, Aerith was quite sure her own recollections were as whole as they could be considering the circumstances. "What happened after?" That was when her brow furrowed and confusion marred her features. There had not been an afterward for her, because she had not even begun to pray for Holy before being pulled here. A brief sense of panic filled her as she raised her hands immediately to the ribbon holding her hair back. Slim fingers reached beneath the firm knot and she still felt it secured within her braid: her mother's White Materia. [break][break]
The composure Cloud was trying to keep was cracking before her and she reached forward to grasp his one hand in both of her own. A comforting gesture as she silently took in everything he said. Sephiroth had killed her? Aerith felt her mind scrambling to try and make sense of what Cloud recalled and experienced and what had not even happened to her. Did this mean...she had been pulled from a different time? "That was never your fault, Cloud. If I died, then I did so knowing what could happen to me." It had been a very real possibility for her the moment she had gone off on her own, but she had hoped that it would not. Because she wished for more out of her life and to be with her friends until the very end of her days. [break][break]
"I'm not sure either, Cloud," she admitted softly. Already she was reaching forward to gather her friend into her arms to soothe away his sorrows and the guilt that weighed on him so heavily. "I don't remember this happening, because I don't believe I experienced any of this. I never had the chance to pray for Holy before being pulled here." Regardless of whether it had happened to her, she knew that Cloud had witnessed her death and had been unable to prevent it. Of course, she never would have expected him to do so. Everyone died eventually and there was no stopping that sometimes. [break][break]
"I'm here now and whatever guilt you have, I would never have blamed you. You came for me and that's all that matters." Her first priority was attempting to comfort her friend before figuring out this utter confusion. A soft sigh escaped her as she pulled back a little and looked up at Cloud with a soft smile on her face. "Smile for me? I always loved seeing you smile. I always felt so accomplished when I managed to see it and know I was the cause of it."

Aerith was pleased that she had been right about him being from another world. His appearance alone stood out quite a bit from the others, if only for the unique way his hair fell. As if it defied gravity in some way--much more than Cloud's ever could! Her lips quirked into an amused smile at the thought. "I'm glad that you're enjoying your time here, then. It can be a new start for some people!" And it seemed that Seymour very much needed that new start. He did not even miss his home all that much with the admittance of preferring Zephon over Spira. She was hardly going to judge him for that. No, some people preferred to start anew far away from where they had led a hard life. [break][break]
Only a few weeks? Similar to herself, then. Aerith wondered how many people were being pulled from their worlds each day. What purpose was it all for? Why her of all people? An endless amount of questions that plagued her mind each and every day. The wistful tone of Seymour's voice caught her attention when he mentioned Sonora. Did he like the idea of a big city? Midgar was quite similar to Sonora and she would not call Midgar majestic by any means. Oh, she loved her home very much. There was an edged beauty to the city and the people that lived there--especially those that lived in the Slums. Life had been difficult but very much worthwhile. [break][break]
"Machina? I'm guessing you mean machines?" Or some sort of word for technology. A thoughtful hum escaped her as she stared at Seymour before rocking back and forth on her feet. He seemed quite capable of caring for himself, but he seemed to be alone in this city. "Why not come back with me to Sonora, if you'd like? I could show you around and try and help you out." The offer was a genuine one because she really did wish to help, but she would hardly force the issue. It had been a spur-of-the-moment type of question after all. Aerith would do her best to aid Seymour if he did agree with her, though.

The flush of his cheeks had her biting back another giggle at how rather adorable it looked on him. It really was quite clear to her he was not quite used to social interactions all that much. He reminded her of Cloud and when she had first met him. He had been rather surprised and unused to affectionate gestures as well. With time her friend had grown accustomed to her mannerisms and even initiated contact with her when he wished to comfort her. Aerith remembered his words in Cosmo Canyon when she had admitted to him how alone she felt and the comforting hand on her shoulder. In a way, she was making up for the lack of physical affection she had grown up with as a child. Her mother had done her best to be there, but Shinra had stolen much of her childhood away in sterile walls and leaving her by her lonesome as her mother was pulled away for those experiments. [break][break]
"You're welcome," Aerith replied easily. Focusing on the present moment was better than thinking of her unpleasant past. There was nothing she could do to change it now. There was also the real possibility she may not be able to get back to Gaia, anyway. This was a chance for her to start anew and she was not going to waste it! For now, she was happy to potentially make a new friend and find a way to entertain herself for the day. Clasping her hands behind her back, she leaned forward a little as she continued to smile unabashedly. He really was quite adorable to watch and get to know. [break][break]
Patiently, she waited for Seymour to finish his water ice as she was tempted to make a really big cup for herself. It really was hot outside today! Her hair felt like a massive weight even with it braided and held out of the way. Aerith wondered if she should try and invent central air and try to market that in Zephon. All she needed to do was figure out how to make one and then she would be rich. If she could find Cid in this world, then she would just have him make it. Humming idly, she allowed the silence to linger between them until Seymour had finished and asked her a question. [break][break]
"Oh, no. I'm living with some of my friends in Sonora right now, but I'm really from a world called Gaia. I got brought here a little while ago unexpectedly." It still felt like a culture shock to her at times, but she was getting better at living here. Sonora was pretty similar to Midgar and it almost felt like being back home. She missed her mother and her flowers, though. "What about you? You don't seem from Zephon yourself." [break][break]

It was quite clear to her that this youth was unused to any sort of physical touch. Aerith felt a little guilty about forcing that on him so suddenly, but he had not jerked away from her quickly. That meant he was receptive to such things, if only in small doses. Which was a good thing to being more comfortable with friendly gestures! She would not push her luck more than she already had, though. Even she knew when to respect personal boundaries and not to push too much too soon. At least, well, she was usually good with such things! Sometimes she got a little carried away but she was trying to be less brash about it. "Sorry for being touchy-feely. I get a little over-enthused sometimes," she apologized with a sheepish smile. [break][break]
But it was best to apologize if she had pushed too far! For now, she simply observed as he began to cast it himself without her help. Magic was a different thing for her than it was for others back in her world. It could not be used naturally without the aid of Materia aligned with a certain element or certain power. For herself? Well, Aerith could wield magic naturally on her own, but it was much easier for her to channel it through Materia. Perhaps it was because she was only half-Cetra or because she had not been properly trained in her people's abilities. What little she did know and could do was enough for her. [break][break]
Her eyes lit up with pride as the youth successfully cast his magic more delicately than before. Yes, it was still a little chunky with ice, but it was a much better effort than the previous one! "You could certainly sell both. People will be in need of healing, but this is a bit more practical with the heat. Nearly everyone will want some way to cool off as they go about their day." Goodness knew she was more than happy to wolf down a cup of water ice herself. The tragedy of being a food salesman! Always wishing to eat your own product no matter the consequences to your wallet. "But you did really well this time. Keep at it and you'll perfect the spellwork in no time!" [break][break]
Aerith wished to ensure he had praise for his efforts, too. It was easy to lose motivation without outside praise sometimes. Efforts made should be acknowledged and praised when they provided positive results. Her head tilted to the side somewhat as she watched the youth stand and go into the most fanciful greeting she had ever seen. Hand gestures and all! An amused laugh escaped her as she smiled at him easily. It must have been a personal greeting from wherever he was. Certainly not one from her own world at least! "No need to be sorry. I did sort of swoop down on you after all," she replied easily. "I'm Aerith Gainsborough but just Aerith is fine. It's very nice to meet you, Seymour!"
[attr="class","ayab-text"] There was something wrong and Aerith did not know how to address it. It was as plain as day for her to see the turmoil that lined every inch of Cloud's body and within his eyes as well. He was hiding something from her and she felt her brow furrow in concern. What was there that he felt the need to react to her presence the way he did? It was like...he was surprised to see her in front of him. Not in the sense of seeing someone after a long parting, but in the sense that something bad had happened in the aftermath. A small hum of disapproval escaped her as she debated on questioning him outright or giving him a little time to gather his thoughts. This meeting was unexpected to them both and she wished to be understanding of his emotions and what was bothering him. [break][break]
"You're hiding something from me." Well, there went her idea of being patient with him. The words had slid from her lips before she could control herself. His body language spoke volumes of how he was feeling even if he was not speaking of how he felt. It was not like he was doing that great of a job of trying to hide his anxiety, but Aerith also knew Cloud well enough to know when he felt cornered and a little overwhelmed. "What's wrong? What do you mean a lot has happened?" That was certainly a worrying sentence to think over as her friend stammered over his words. [break][break]
It was a fair enough request, though. A more practical one, too! The people pushing past them did not present a comfortable area for privacy, anyway. Aerith was also getting tired of people shoving past her like she was an obstacle to get through. Her nose crinkled as she cast a mild glare at someone that had knocked into her shoulder again. Huffing to herself, she looked back to Cloud as she nodded to him and followed after. "Sonora? I've never heard of it, but we're not on Gaia anymore, are we? I can't even sense the lifestream anymore. Everything about this just feels wrong to my senses." But her worry dissipated somewhat at the mention of Tifa and her expression brightened knowing that her best friend was safe. [break][break]
"Oh, thank goodness! I'm so happy she's here, too. It's good to know that you weren't alone here." Aerith looked up with a genuine smile to Cloud as she noticed him staring at her again. A delicate brow was quirked upward as she considered him--something was definitely wrong. "...something happened to me, didn't it? Whatever it was, I'm here now and so are you. Focus on the present moment and enjoy it for what it is." Aerith smiled brightly up at the swordsman as she linked her arm through his easily. A small thing to tether herself with and to remind Cloud that she was right here and now going anywhere for the time being. As far as she could recall, nothing had happened to her as the last memory she held was falling asleep before setting out on her mission to pray for Holy. [break][break]
But memories could be fallible and it was clear that something bad had happened if Cloud's constant staring and inner turmoil was anything for her to go by.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] The sheer confusion and hesitation that lined his entire being had her giggling to herself. It was rather adorable how he was taken aback by her mannerisms and words. Aerith surmised he was unused to socializing or she was just being too forward again. Most likely both! But she wished to aid someone in their endeavors and this seemed that perfect way to do so. Now if she could find a decent patch of earth in Sonora to grow some flowers, then she would be making plenty of gil herself in no time! Flowers had always been her specialty even if she did not have the added bonus of the lifestream to guide her. It just meant she would have to get by on her skills alone without relying on her Cetra heritage! Easy enough for her to do so. [break][break]
"See? Told you so~" she quipped with a wink. The fact that he did like it had her beaming brightly as she resisted the urge to be just a little bit smug about it. He seemed like the sort that was sheltered and had not experienced more of the fun things life had to offer. Aerith enjoyed the idea of showing him a bright side that he could reminisce about even after they had parted ways. Little moments of kindness and happiness could really add up over time. Things to hold close to one's heart as a way to keep away sadness and sorrow. The small, awkward smile he gave her had her expression warming more as she regarded him with a more gentle gaze. "You have a nice smile, you know. You should do so more often." But she soon nodded emphatically at his question, "Oh, definitely! It's something quick and cool to eat with this heat going on. I guarantee it!" [break][break]
Aerith watched with an amused gaze as the youth began to try and create a cone on his own. Seeing shards of ice fall onto the table had her biting her cheek to stifle her laughter. She raised her hand to her mouth as a few giggles slipped through despite her best efforts. He was, ah, rather forceful when he cast magic. He tried again with a better result but was glaring at the cup like it was the source of his woes. "It takes a little bit of practice. Trying using less energy with it," she suggested lightly. He had not kicked her out of his stall yet, so she slipped around until she was standing beside him with a grin on her lips. Oh, she was definitely going to be pushing personal boundaries in a moment! "Here, let me show you." [break][break]
Aerith placed her hand upon his own before guiding it to hover over the cup. It took little concentration on her part as she allowed herself to focus her magical energy through his hand as she guided her materia to do the rest. A gentle, delicate weaving of her magic to create the shavings of ice instead of just chunks of it. Once that was done, she pulled her hand back with a bright smile on her lips as she placed another empty cup in front of him. "Now, try it again on your own. Less force and more finesse!"

[attr="class","ayab-text"] Aerith could not really argue against the point of him needing to eat. Yeah, that was an important thing for any that found themselves in Zephon without a means to make gil. Luckily, she had been able to cross paths early on with Cloud which had eased that burden for herself. "That is a very good point! But why not both?" she asked cheerfully. If he only had healing magic to sell for gil, then she could offer her help in casting ice spells! Her eyes glittered a little at the new project she now had in mind to help this man whether he necessarily wished for it or not. What? It was a fun diversion to simply browsing the wares as she tried to find the perfect presents for her friends. Besides, she could add this to her quota of good deeds for the day! [break][break]
"In my world, it's a treat like ice cream. But I'm not sure where I would find flavoring here," she mused with a thoughtful expression. The young woman leaned back as she began to look around the various stalls. If she could find some cones or cups for sale, then she could repurpose those to create some snow cones with! Aerith was brimming with purpose as she clapped her hands together before pointing at the young man with a determined stare. "I'm going to find some paper cups and spoons and then I'll show you! Just wait here!" With that, she disappeared to go through the various stalls to find what she needed. [break][break]
Luck was on her side today! Aerith had managed to find someone selling paper cups most likely for the use of water and not what she had in mind. Exchanging gil for a stack of them along with some spoons, she went to another stall to buy some flavored sugar to mix with them. What? It tasted better with some more sweetness to it! She was rushing back to the orange-canopied stall as she placed her purchases on the table with a wink at the youth before taking a paper cup with one hand. Aerith used her free hand to manipulate her materia as she liked to produce a cup of shaved ice. The familiarity of weaving her own magic with the magical orbs was rather comforting in a sense. How long had it been since she had done so? No matter at the moment! [break][break]
Adding the flavored sugar to the treat, she held it out to him with an expectant smile. "Here! Try this and tell me what you think. If you like this, then I guarantee you will make a lot of gil selling these. Along with your healing spells, of course!" And, no, she was not going to go away until he tried the treat. In all honesty, Aerith was probably not going to go away even then. This was fun and she enjoyed meeting new people anyway.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] The sudden sound of yelling and angry drivers caught her attention as she looked to the side with widened, emerald eyes. It felt as if itself had come to a standstill when she saw the familiar form of Cloud racing towards her. Pushing his way through others and oncoming traffic to simply get to her. Aerith felt her hand immediately go to her mouth in surprise as both elation and slight trepidation went through her. The last time she had seen him in person had been after they had found the Black Materia. Cloud had been controlled by Sephiroth to give him the destructive materia before he had broken down before her: launching himself at her in his confusion and anger. No, she had not blamed him for what had happened in the least. It was a situation that could have broken so many and Cloud had always been so strong in the face of so much. Everyone had a breaking point and his had been worse than most. [break][break]
Her hand had yet to lower from her mouth even as he stopped before her with the most slack-jawed expression she had ever witnessed from him. And she had seen him in many precarious situations! One that included him in a dress! Aerith could not help but laugh at the look on his face as she regarded him with warm eyes and a bright smile that curled on her lips. "If only you could see yourself right now, Cloud. You look as if you've seen a ghost!" If she had known the true implications of those words, then she never would have said them. As it was, Aerith was merely happy to see a familiar face within this odd place and so quickly as well! [break][break]
She leaned forward to hug him fiercely to reassure herself that he was definitely real and solid. Yup! And just for a measure, she leaned back to pinch his cheek with a slightly mischievous glint in her eyes. "Just to make sure one of us isn't dreaming. I'm really happy to see you, Cloud!" Her hands rested against his cheeks with affection as she stared up at him. He looked a little different from their last occurrence. He seemed more mature and less unsure of himself now--along with the change in apparel as well. How much had she missed since she had parted ways with the group? Her expression grew a little more serious as she took a small step back to look up at him thoughtfully. [break][break]
"I was in the Forgotten City before I woke up here, Cloud. Where even is here? And are the others here with you?" If Cloud was here before her, then that meant the others had to be here, right? Tifa? Barret? Cid? Nanaki? Something was just no right about her sudden appearance here and the lack of the lifestream here.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] This city was more exciting than Sonora! Well, in the sense that it seemed to offer more colorful people and wares to peruse at her leisure. Sonora was special because her friends were there and that was what mattered to her most. Aerith was simply happy that she was not alone in this world and had come across familiar faces early on in her journey here. Of course, learning what had happened to her was a rather confusing thing. It seemed this world summoned those from more than just space--it also summoned them from different time frames. Learning how she had died had been rather dismaying, but she was happy to know that her prayers had worked and Gaia had been saved. It was just such a confusing thing to think over in the long run. Her friends had been summoned after her death and she had been summoned before such a thing had ever occurred. [break][break]
Were there multiple versions of her to pull from differing timelines? Aerith tapped her index finger against her chin as she considered the perplexing question. It made it seem like time was a river with so many paths flowing forward. At the very least, she was grateful for this second chance of sorts! Why second guess things when she had these moments to live in now? She did not know if she would be able to return back home, and if she did then she already knew what decisions she had to take. The present meant more to her than a predetermined future that she would rather not think of for now. Right now she had gil she had earned that she could use for shopping! Small, thoughtful gifts for Cloud and for Tifa and the others. [break][break]
She used her hand to fan herself as the heat of the day began to swelter more and she wondered if someone was selling icecream. Now that would be a very worthwhile investment to cool herself off with. Green eyes flickered from stall to stall until she read a sign with a curious offering for healing magic. Her brow furrowed for a moment and she found it rather comical that someone was offering such magic for sale. It was a way to make gil, but she found that healing was something that should be given freely to those that needed it. Who was she to judge, though? Aerith had spent years selling flowers within the streets of Midgar to those that could not believe such plant-life could exist within the city. [break][break]
"An interesting business venture. What would you do if someone started offering their healing for free, though? It seems more useful to sell an ice spell to someone with how hot it is. You could make snow cones out of it!" Her smile was wide as she regarded the blue-haired youth offering his magical talents for sale. Aerith clasped her hands behind her back as she leaned forward with a slightly mischievous glint in her eyes.
[attr="class","ion-heart"] i'll be waiting come and find me
Aerith is the last of her kind--a half Cetra/half-human hybrid that calls the world of Gaia her home. Her status as the last of her kind has lead her to spend the majority of her life beneath the careful watch of Shinra. A company that had made itself famous by harnessing the life-blood of the Planet to ease humanity's struggle and making quite a profit in the process. Because of this she was eventually pulled into the agenda of AVALANCHE to save the Planet from both Shinra and from Sephiroth's machinations as well. Now she is here on Zephon trying to find her way through and perhaps create a new beginning for herself as well.
FRIENDSHIPS COULD YOU BE DREAMING THAT WE'RE MEANT TO BE?
Despite her cheerful and outgoing personality, Aerith was often alone and isolated during her childhood and adolescent years. She was the last of her kind and grew up within the Shinra Building as a little girl. Because of this, she goes out of her to form any positive relationship she can to ease that lingering loneliness within her. Meeting new people and being there for them is one of her greatest joys and she is quite loyal and willing to do whatever she can to aid them.
HATESHIPS WON'T SAY I LOVE YOU - THAT'S CRAZY, YOU SEE
Aerith cannot say she truly hates anyone: even those aligned with Shinra. Well, beyond Professor Hojo, anyway. It takes a lot to earn her distaste and bitterness as she usually strives to see the best in everyone and what lies beneath their surface. Perhaps the most obvious answer for her in this are those in Shinra that willingly bring harm to others without remorse or care for their actions. Of course, this can apply to those outside of Shinra as well.
LOVESHIPS DON'T EVEN TRY TO UNDERSTAND ME
It's...complicated. Aerith's first relationship was with SOLDIER First Class Zack Fair and she truly did love him. It was her first taste of romance as a young girl and it opened her eyes to so many things about the world and to see beyond her own preconceived viewpoints. Then he disappeared for years and she eventually believed him to be dead. Her second brush with romance was when she met Cloud, but she never went beyond flirting and the date she offered him when she realized the bond between him and Tifa. As for now? Well, she does not mind becoming enamored with someone and is open to anyone that shows interest in her.
