He'd looked at the card and his destination. So whoever he was to meet was at the beach, yeah? It was a good thing he'd already gotten an outfit remade specifically for it, or he'd have even more trouble rebuilding his guild. He just couldn't help but wonder who his date was. Maybe he got someone that would be truly special, someone he would spend the rest of his time here with. Now that he thought about it; could he afford to get attached? He'd have to go someday and he doubted whoever it was would want to return to the Source with him. Especially if he got that close, they'd probably know the Source was hell at times. Really, no matter how much he heard of other worlds, he found that, on a consistent basis, none of them were ever quite in as much danger as the Source. But, for now, he could relax, take in the salty air of the sea, the warmth of the sun, and smile, pushing aside such thoughts.
'Course, the idea of something romantic went out the moment he saw her sitting by her lonesome on the beach, back turned to him. Yeah, the moment he saw her, he knew. He already knew. They'd have similar likes and dislikes, considering what they'd both went through over the years. Any matchmaker who didn't know the extent of their relationship would've paired them together with no trouble whatsoever. He grinned, suppressing the laughter already threatening him. Yeah, as much as he loved his dear apprentice, there was no way he was passing this up. He really, really hoped that she didn't have anything romantic planned for the date, because that was all about to crash and burn, because when did he ever get the chance to actually cut loose with a friend?
So that was how, as quietly as his feet shifting in the sand could carry him, he found himself behind Cassandra, a lecherous grin on his lips. "Hey there, hot stuff. You're lookin' fiiiiine." He remarked, waggling one eyebrow after the other, carrying on for a few moments before bursting out in laughter he could no longer contain. Yeah, even if there was no romance to be had here, he would make sure that it was a good time for the two of them. Probably.

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
This place was still a disaster, he had to be up front about that. Prompto did the best he could, but at some point you really needed a professional to keep the place clean. Well, less keep it clean and more clean it up after Sephiroth and whatever the hell those two other clowns had managed to accomplish. Gods, the place was wrecked, there was a crater outside, and rumors of freakshows going on. Not that he had any real right to talk about freakshows, considering not only the type of company that he was, but the kind of company that he tended to keep. Cassandra tried to make a play at being normal but, well, even she had her quirks. In truth though, part of him missed the others as well. That full group of adventurers. The Scions, too. He wondered what they were up to, at this point in time.
Once again he found himself trying to remove some of the debris in the building. Brushing away glass shards, trying to clean up after the elements that managed to find their way through a leaky roof. Removing splinters and shattered timber from the establishment. Calculating total damage to figure out what would need to be repaired and how much gil. He mentally kicked himself for spending it all on his wardrobe, but he'd much rather not have to wear his armor all the time, even if he wore it now. He figured it would work out. Once he managed to turn in Sephiroth, that other silver haired samurai he was with in Sonora, and the blonde man that blew up a chunk of Provo, he was pretty sure that he would have the money to repair everything and live comfortable for a while!
A man could dream.
Unfortunately, dreams come to an end, especially when you've got someone at the door. "Yeah, yeah one moment." He remarked, as he carefully stepped over a fallen beam. He stopped to take a look at the whole through the roof. Right, the sun was out, still day. He'd been having trouble keeping track of that lately, so engrossed was he in trying to get moving forward. The beam itself also presented a problem. Had to find a way to get that out, get a new one made and installed. Gods this was going to be a nightmare to get done. He paused for a moment, swirling his fingers over his temples as he went to open the door.
His first thought, when he was sat down, is that for a botanist, her hands were surprisingly soft. He'd expected something more scarred and marred by thorns and thistles. Or callused from long hours cutting down trees and slicing away the vegetation to make some gil. When this was all said and done, he would have to introduce her to real botany, not this silly little hobby of hers. Although, he couldn't help but wonder what kind of lotion she used, if she used any. Maybe something to ask? Might cost some money, but eh, he probably had the gil to spare. And when he brought in Sephiroth, oh man would he be loaded. "I'm fine." But he took the chocolate nonetheless. What Aerith will realize, if she has not already, is that he had quite the sweet tooth. And, well, if she's willing to pay for it, why not indulge the chocolate-y goodness that at least wasn't poisoned?
"I'm fine." He repeated. It was his fault. He knew that much. If he hadn't brought it up, then it wouldn't have bothered him like that, he got it. "It's just a bit of a personal thing for me, is all." They had done everything right. They'd killed--Well, she turned out to not really be dead, but they had stopped Nael, they'd stopped the signal, and still Dalamud came crashing down. Still, everyone caught in the blast was killed. It hadn't always been just him and Cassandra, there had been others. He didn't know what had become of them all. Some he hadn't seen for a very long time, ghosts that lurked in the shadows of his memory. In truth, with everyone else getting amnesia, Alex had wondered at times if he wouldn't have been better off with it.
No, best not to leave Cassandra alone.
"Must be warming up if you're asking me to stay." Maybe he could just annoy her into letting him go, though. Now that he took a moment to think about it, she could act surprisingly fast regarding something like that. "So, you some kind of therapist on the side?" He joked. Nah, if she was, she wouldn't have been tending flowers in some rundown old building. She probably wouldn't have been in that part of town to begin with. A therapist would do far too well. Off of him alone they would probably make a killing. But still, she seemed to have experience with this sort of thing.
Really? Prompto didn't buy into that? Huh, well, that was odd, but, what he followed up with. Alex had to admit that it wasn't completely impossible at least. Tons of people who looked like him? Well, okay, maybe that kind of made sense. "Oh, yeah, you're pretty young, aren't you? Probably part of some fashion trend." Kids these days, always chasing one fad to another. Being as old as he was, the young'uns had long since passed him by. Goodness, even back in his world you had gunblades and nouliths as all the rage. Him? He was quite happy to stick to a regular sword and a Star Globe, thank you very much. It's only when Prompto asked what was going on that Alex finally spoke up again. "Well, if you could sweep some glass shards out, I'd appreciate it. After that, if you're looking for work that actually pays, I can set you up." Everyone in this world needed gil.
He does perk up again at the mention of an 'Iggy.' Prompto's right, Alex doesn't know for sure who that is. Granted, he has a very good idea off of what Noctis told him. "Iggy? That a nickname for--" But he stops himself mid sentence. Right, different worlds, not his Noctis, all that. He knows of Ignis, knows that he's supposedly the greatest chef to ever live. Granted, Cassandra would probably take those as fighting words. "Nevermind." He simply dismisses it. No need to make things more difficult for them, especially when Prompto moved on to the next topic. Alex, for his part, simply continued to clean. This guy could go a mile a minute, couldn't he? Just hopping from topic to topic. Well, at least he seemed to think Dark Knights were cool. And that, of course, was when Fray spoke up inside his head.
'Should we show him?'
Alex shook his head. Revealing Fray to Prompto? Somehow I feel like that'd be a bad idea. But he tried to take it in stride, and to keep up with the gunslinger's inquisitie nature. He stopped his cleaning for a moment as he scratched his head. Ah, how to explain Dark Knights. "Dark Knights are... well, we're like vigilantes. It's not as fun as it sounds. While we have the shadow and blood aesthetic, our power is directly proportional to how much negativity we carry." Needless to say, Alexander Sorel was a frightening Dark Knight when he had to be, even if it meant reliving through all the trauma he'd experienced.
But there were misconceptions. "What you saw though is more, well, I'm also called a Red Mage. That's a bit more acrobatic." That was the mixture of black and white, though he'd admit Cassandra had him beat in black magic. "I gotta be honest, I have no idea what any of those terms mean. I'm guessing you have something similar in your world though? Tell me about it." Maybe getting Prompto to think of hearth and home would get him to slow down a little. Maybe.

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
Was he really that obvious? He looked at himself, then at the others. Jeez, he really did kind of stand out here with that luxurious fur coat, didn't he? In fairness, he'd paid a pretty gil to have it made. Most of his funds had gone into getting his exhaustive wardrobe back. Right, so, it was probably for the best that Cassandra handle the gil from here on out. Well, not really. That was a depressing piece of info to learn from the lady though. Just talking to people got you stabbed and robbed? This place really sucked. Oh, but if he only knew how shitty this place would get in the future. "Yes, well, I would like to avoid being stabbed if at all possible." He gave a sheepish smile at his own realization. Or shot, or poisoned, or beaten, that sort of thing. He doubted that it'd kill him, if nothing else, his time in the world had given him the amazing ability to take a beating and somehow not die.
He'd rather have the ability to not get hit. And he did, sometimes. But alas. He was more the meatshield compared to Cassandra. "I'm an adventurer, so pretty much anything." He responded, breath visible with each word. He did take another quick scan. Didn't want anyone stabbing them, at least. Adventurer was really just another word for mercenary. A far less ugly word, too. Mercenary implied that he'd do anything for moment. But, now that he thought about it. Even if there wasn't a lot of gil involved, there would probably be something that fit the bill of what he was after. "If you could show me around here first though, I'd appreciate it." If he was going to be coming to Sonora, it would likely be best to have a tour guide.
Alex would wait for her to show him around. Plus, you know, wasn't that bad of a view, at least. Though he did cough slightly. "You know, you say you're fine with it, but I'd feel a bit like an ass if I didn't, so are you sure you don't want to wear my jacket or something?" Yeah, she was fine, sure, but it had to be freezing. He wasn't sure how she could stay out like that without anything. And then one more thing hit him as his head tilted for a moment before looking back at her. "You know, you asked my name but never gave me yours, Miss...?" It wasn't fair if she had his name, but not the inverse!
He just kind of stared at her for a moment as she plucked the calico from him. It took a few moments before, well, Cassandra found out what it was like being the calico. Strong arms wrapped around her, cat meowing indignantly, hissing as well, as Alex pressed Cassandra against him in a massive, perhaps crushing hug. He tugged up a bit, taking her feet off the ground. Yeah, this was a big moment for him. "... You remember me." He spoke softly, tightening his death grip on the apprentice. It was just a soft whisper before he said it a tad louder this time. "You remember me!" Was this causing a scene? Probably, but right now he wasn't really sure he cared all that much. Just having something, some kind of link, something that actually proved he existed and that all his life hadn't been some kind of dream, it was just a tad overwhelming.
"Oh, thank the Twelve, no one else I've run into does!" Flashes of the others came to his mind. Fran, Thancred, Greg! Nothing, just absolutely nothing. He was a stranger in an strange world, with only his chocobo and Fray for company. Ragnabawk was great company. Fray, not so great. An observation that Fray quickly and quietly objected to. But, well, he could just suck it up for the moment. Right now, Alex was in far too good of a mood to let his own shadow ruin it for him. And again, Fray objected to the idea that he had a tendency to ruin things. He was pragmatic, but he cared, ultimately he cared.
Refusing to let go just yet, Alex did blink at Cassandra. "How long have you been here? Have you met anyone else?" How had he missed her all this time? Had he known she was here, he would have sought her out from the beginning. There was so much to catch up on, so much to do. Maybe he could get her to help around the Rising Stones. It would be nice to have their own little shop, their own little place to live, make their own way, none of the Warrior of Light BS that haunted them everywhere they went.
The moment Aerith started laughing, it brought up some things. In truth, it was his fault. He shouldn't have talked about Dalamud. He thought it wouldn't bother him to talk about it. Perhaps there was a part of him that took the laughter as mockery, or making light of something. He didn't know. All he knew for a moment is that he felt strangely chilly. He went quiet for a few moments as his gaze lost focus. A deep brreath as he licked his lips, his mouth suddenly feeling dry. Goodness, this must have looked so weird to Aerith. But for a few moments, an awkward silence reigned between them, as it all replayed in his mind.
I close my eyes, tell us why must we suffer?
A mighty pillar of magitek, crashing into the earth, causing the land itself to shudder as countless soldiers are crushed beneath its weight, the rest swept away in a tsunami of dirt and debris.
Release your hand, for Your will drags us under.
A black wyrm, mighty and terrible, emerges from the moon, unleashing a deafening roar that drowns out the sounds of battle, its rage unfurled, its bloodlust all consuming. Its hour of vengeance is nigh, and none on this star shall hinder its long awaited retribution.
My legs grow tired, tell us where must we wander?
Beams of glittering light shred through the city states, their homes. Countless more are killed in the blast. He stands helpless on a cliff, unable to match the beast. A shield erected by Louisoix forms and breaks, despite the Archon's hopeless efforts to keep them safe.
How can we carry on if redemption's beyond us?
A ball, bright as the sun bears down upon them, the full ire of the wyrm focused entirely on their group. The only reason for their survival being a flash of light that sends them forward in time, abandoning those left behind to perish in the Dreadwyrm's fire.
But hey, he finally came back to reality, right? That was all that mattered. It wasn't like she had completely shut him down and he just couldn't function anymore. Just, shove the bad thoughts away to the bad place and let Fray deal with them later. He was pretty sure he could hear his shadow sighing just a little at it all. "Yeah, yeah I suppose it does sound absurd." He gave a weak laugh, scratching the back of his head at that. Instead, he'd just listen a little, and well, she did give him one valuable piece of information. All of my friends to beat him. Well, that was an illuminating statement. So there was some involvement by people that were close to her. Still, he would store that away for later. "Yeah, I suppose it does." Instead focusing on her comments regarding the planet. Right, just, why was he so cold?
He was overstaying his welcome, wasn't he?
He slowly rose to his feet and smiled. Just be normal. Just be normal. Don't let it show, don't let it take over. Be normal, be calm, be safe. "Hey, uh, thanks for the chocolate. And the information." He said softly, never letting that smile of his drop. "When I figure out what I've done with Sephiroth, I'll let you know." Yeah, if nothing else, she had earned a Finder's Fee for when he was done with the guy. He felt good about his chances. Felt real good. But there were some things about Sephiroth that concerned him. Even regarding a fee, that depended on meeting the guy. If he was out to destroy the world, well, there would be no point in dragging him in alive. At that point, it was best for the Warrior of Light to do what must be done and see an end to him. Otherwise, well, there was good money to be had, there!
He looked at her, then looked at the cup, then back at her. Well, okay, that would work. In that case, he knew full well it wasn't poisoned. "... Thank you." He muttered softly, before chugging down the hot chocolate. The warmth gave him life, and his opinion of Aerith increased a bit. Honestly, she couldn't have been that bad. Though, now that he thought about it. "That obvious?" He remarked, before deciding to carry on, as he listened to her story. "... Huh. In my world we had someone try and crash a moon into our planet." Were their worlds that similar? Maybe there were some universal constants going on. Some madman... woman, well, Nael was a woman, in the end, It got confusing. But how in the world would he explain that entire incident? Well, if Aerith was going to skip over some details, he would do the same.
Fair was fair.
His finger traced the rim of the glass. "She was stopped by the Warriors of Light." He remarked. 'Course, he wouldn't explain that he was one of those Warriors of Light. At the time, he thought it was the most harrowing experience of his life. If only he knew what he was going to experience. He was so young and full of life then, unsaddled by the weight of the world. That entire time left a bitter taste in his mouth. Even with Nael defeated, Dalamud still continued its descent. "Moon still came down, though." He'd leave out the part where Bahamut erupted from the moon and Teraflared the entire planet though. The story was already depressing enough and well, he didn't want to make it too long or too complicated.
But he did notice one minor fault in the possibility of Sephiroth trying that plan. Well, assuming Aerith had the goal right anyway. "Sephiroth's plan wouldn't matter, though. Even if this materia worked, there's no Lifestream for him to absorb. He'd just reduce the world to a wasteland." Of course, maybe that was the real plan, just blow up the world because why not? Some people were crazy enough to try that, like Fandaniel. He really hoped Fandaniel didn't show up. That would be problematic.
Ah, well, she was polite, wasn't she? But Alex wasn't too inclined. He became visibly uncomfortable at the gesture, something that Aerith would no doubt pick up on. "I... ah... no. Thank you, but, I'm... not thirsty. If need be, I can make myself something later." He just didn't trust anyone who made his food or drinks for him. Well, he trusted Cassandra, but Cassandra had been through the exact same events that he had. Plus, she was a trained and mastered Culinarian. For someone who hadn't been able to cook so well at the start of it all, she'd really upped her game ever since the two of them had gotten poisoned. Unfortunately, as delicious as Aerith's hot chocolate looked, he really didn't trust anything prepared for him.
Personally, he thought she was being too soft on Sephiroth, but well, what was he supposed to say there? Though the fact that she said it was a very long story, and a very complicated one set off some flags for him. "Ah, personal issues. Right" Namely, the fact that it would take a long time, as well as be complicated, well, most accounts when you're barely involved would qualify as either. But, well, he supposed she may have just been one of many in regards to him, so he didn't really press it. At least it seemed she actually had friends that she could rely on. People who were close to her and vice versa. Still, he felt maybe he could poke here and there, see if he couldn't try and get some information. Trying to destroy the world.
That set him up a couple notches on the threat train.
Well, maybe. Depends on the how, and how far he actually got to that goal. "How did he try to destroy the world?" It was calculated. He didn't think that an explanation regarding a method that would have global consequences would really qualify as personal, at least. Especially if she wasn't there for it. Plus it could narrow things out as well, regarding what the intended method was. It may have been something really stupid that never had any chance of actually succeeding. Some things, assuming Aerith was telling the truth, were starting to make some sense. But the other guy, the blonde, still owed him for his wrecked shop. And being an overall terrorist, but! He was sure he could probably collect on something there if worse came to worse.
In truth, he hadn't expected the help, but he wouldn't turn it down either. Yeah, he could tell from small things like that, that Prompto was a good kid. "I'd appreciate your help. Thank you, Prompto." He spoke warmly; make it clear that his efforts were appreciated. At the very least even if the efforts didn't amount to much, it was more than most people were willing to give him. "I wasn't here for it. Though I've been meaning to bring something up." He kept cleaning the table, but he should probably help. So he danced around the debris as best he could, grabbing another broom while he tried to sweep it out of the way. Odds and ends that he had missed. But it was a good chance to speak about things. Something friendly that wouldn't be too deep, like the matter of different... screw it, he would just go with Nocti for the plural usage of Noctis.
But, right! Back to the matter at hand. "One of the guys that attacked this town and wrecked my shop bore some resemblance to you. I think the officers in Sonora may have thought you were him. He was fighting that other guy, Sephiroth. Blonde, spiky hair, and a large sword on him." Aerith had been very helpful in that regard. Nice lady. But Sephiroth, well, wouldn't hurt to pass it on to Prompto as well. "Sephiroth has very long silver hair, and he's a pretty obvious Samurai. Now, in my world, silver-haired samurai aren't that uncommon, maybe they're common in Doma...." He muttered that last part quietly, it made him wonder. "Right, but his nodachi, I've never heard of anything even like it. I don't even know if another nodachi close to it exists." A weapon that long just made no sense to him. But if nothing else, it was an easy way to identify the guy if he ever ran into him.
He could probably snap it in the middle, now that he thought about it. Unless it was forged with some kind of unbreakable material with some kind of technique that he didn't know about.
That'd really suck.
But he blinked at the description of an RPG. In fact, he was just as lost as he was to begin with. "That's just kind of my life. Right down to the knight part. Dark Knight and all that." He scratched his head again, obviously confused. As there was one other question on his mind. "What's a videogame?" For a guy who knew how to drive a car in a medieval world, the rest of modern technology was kind of baffling to him.
