"Liberation of Fate"
"Whether it's Gods or Fate, I'll rebel against them all. We should determine our fate with our own hands..."
Serah's careful words were right, a piece of wisdom that was difficult for her to admit. As it forced her to confront the essence of her existence. Well, more so, the separation from her previous self. Lightning made the first move by locking her heart away but Bhunivelze made it official. Particles of dust brushed by the palm of a God. On the other hand, Serah may not have been thinking about it nearly as deeply. If Lumina had to put her finger on something, her sister probably always knew of the split and the trouble it caused even before divine intervention. That's why they could talk so easily in crystal stasis and now, being face to face.
This also meant that Serah wasn't going to let her go now that they were so close. That reality made her overwhelmingly happy, even if a part of her felt that she should correct the separation. That part of her, was the one that had faith in Lightning, who fiercely admired her, faults and all. Perhaps for that, all she needed was time and a new direction. Without realizing it, she'd been given both! All she had to do, was look over to Zell.
From Zell's earlier remarks, until his final remarks, something changed. Lumina wasn't entirely sure what but if she had to guess, Zell was suffering from Serah's in-your-face truth. Her sister called things like she saw it, something she'd probably picked up from Snow. No, definitely picked up from Snow. The result was feeling like she'd hit her embarrassment quota for the dayyear. So much so that although she was smiling, she was faintly blushing as well.
"Oh Serah~" she replied finally, flustered but happy all the same. Food was as good of a get out of introducing your family to your boyfriend card as any, in her books. "There are some good places here. It just depends on if you want a snack or a proper meal." she chimed in, trying to get back to her normal. Of course, she had a feeling that it'd take her awhile, so she might as well let herself go with the flow. So, she carefully approached Zell and leaned in to whisper something to him,"Serah's not going to let this go, you know~"
Ever mindful of how close she was, she kept an eye on Serah as if trying to be on her best behaviour now. "Thank you. I can't wait to meet all your friends." she continued, after that she just giggled and leaned away. "This feels a bit like deja vu. Only it's not my birthday and instead of Snow, we have Zell. I'll be on my best behaviour this time, so please don't tease Zell too much. What if he faints? Then I'd have to nurse him back to health." something Lumina already had experience in.

"Liberation of Fate"
"Whether it's Gods or Fate, I'll rebel against them all. We should determine our fate with our own hands..."
Not that Claire would admit this aloud but it was really good to spend time with Serah. Not the way they had for centuries in Crystal Sleep but physically. The past was the past, what mattered was what she did today! In this case, it would be tease her sister, to get back for all that teasing she did concerning Zell. It started with her remark about Snow, to which Claire immediately replied, "Oh? Did you tell Lightning about those trips? I wouldn't, her moods are like a walking thunder cloud or static electricity." she forewarned in a playful tone.
Even if she'd been locked away, Claire had been along for the ride over the years in Cocoon. There were some things she could tell Serah that would surprise her, make her laugh, even confirm her deepest suspicions. She would, in time as she wasn't in a hurry to leave Zephon. There was something about this fractured country. Perhaps that was why she was able to gather up a small group of people around her. That or she was always good at taking care of others. Even if her help sometimes went awry...
"I think, no I'm sure she would because she's always known I could. Her worry was that I'm terrible at receiving that same help and care from others. I learned that lesson, it was the last one she taught me, back at the hospital." it made her smile, even if it was sad. The compliment gave her a faint blush. Revealing a more vulnerable person that was more human than soldier. Especially one that was able to laugh, soft and sweet, at the idea of their sometimes incompetent government.
"I think... No, I know you've been spending too much time with Snow. The government wasn't so bad...well the financial aid workers at least. Thanks to them, I took certain things for granted. What kind of adult forgets how important it is to spend time with family?" not that she had room to talk. Claire knew the motivation for Lightning's actions clear as day. Even went about similar precautions upon arriving in Zephon. The difference between the two, was approach and ideals. Knowing that she had Serah's literal well being to care for. She couldn't have joined up with any martial guild. Relying on the kindness of strangers, as well as the Children of Chaos in this world, she got by relatively comfortable. With time for a lot of mischief in Sonora.
"Blow a fuse, from this? Torensten and Sonora are much more advanced. If you'd like, Renwick could fly us to Torensten sometime~? Your big sis has friends all over~!" this was one of her more humble boasts but it was true, it was how she managed to pull off the small taste Serah was seeing.
"Oh, I almost forgot! Where are you keeping our other sister anyway? There's a really sweet innkeeper who gave me a long term stay room before business exploded. It's very quaint with a nostalgic scent." Although there was something amusing, as well as heartwarming that Serah had taken care of Lightning. She was worried about her other self, largely because she had a very rough transition here.

"Liberation of Fate"
"Whether it's Gods or Fate, I'll rebel against them all. We should determine our fate with our own hands..."
A few days after their reunion, Lumina was loading up an airship. Having settled in Provo for months, she managed to make a lot of money trading goods, purchasing others. A lot of it fairly legal but only because of her primary gambit. The girl with the Diamond Dust or so her alias went in certain circles. There was a practical reason for Claire to upkeep her code name, in light of her revelations and clear mind. For one, it made a nice cover during her shadier operations.
Tossing a bag of gil to Serah, Lumina rested her left hand on her hip. "I wonder if I've become too complacent, too settled here in Provo?" she asked a loud and not in a rhetorical fashion. "Life here seemed so simple before. All I wanted to do was map out the country, learn as much as I can and live very comfortably doing it. When I found Zell in Sonora, I didn't think that I'd end up taking care of him." she explained before closing her eyes. Now life was flipped upside down and in protest of the new changes in her life, Lumina distracted herself with business.
"Miss Clarity, we're ready to depart now." came the voice of a young man from Torensten. He piloted this airship and managed Lumina's many trade goods between Provo and Torensten respectively. "Okay then, safe travels Renwick. Thanks, as always." she replied before waving with her right hand. As Renwick and the others in her employ moved off, she turned to look to Serah.
"Would you believe this is a lot easier to manage than the applications for government aid back home? I guess past experiences are good after all." she smiled faintly as her right hand combed through her hair gently. Naturally, there were things Lumina wanted to share with Serah. Albeit privately, some for practical reasons, others so that Zell wouldn't think too badly of her.

"Destiny"
"Destiny and Fate are never left to chance-------------Then what is free will and the human condition?"
As time passed in this awkward but touching reunion, Lumina slowly regained her faculties. The tears she shed, were long overdue. Displaced by time and the pressing need to grow up, to become strong. So that others couldn't make her cry. Now, with her heart no longer locked away, there was clarity.
Quiet as she was, she appreciated being held by Serah. Thoughts going back to the past, back to their Mom, her final words. Instructions on how to get by. She was always the Claire that wanted to try that advice, a road never traversed. One of many, closed off, ignored, deemed unnecessary. Her other self had a role to play, one she'd chosen even before their Mother's death. At the funeral of their Father. Reality was, Serah didn't need that Claire. She'd done a lot on her own and thus the burden was over. Not that she'd ever call it that, nor was it ever their Mother's intention to let it get to this point.
Now she had a choice to make, a deal was offered to her. She had looked to Zell just as Serah wanted her to. Go to a new world, Zell's world. He was serious but she had no idea how to take that. For a moment, she looked to Serah, realizing what that would mean. It made her feel sad, that things couldn't be different. "The world... doesn't need two Lightnings." she stated solemnly before looking to Zell once more. "The world shouldn't forget who Claire Farron is or the time she went by Lumina, either." she'd continue, before gazing up to the skies above Provo.
"Ordinarily, we can't change the past." she reiterated before closing her eyes. "We can learn from it though. I won't just leave you to run off for my own happiness, Serah. I'll make sure you and Lightning, get back to our world. After that..." she slowly opened her eyes and rose up to her feet. "I'm sure there's room for a Claire Farron in Balamb, riiight~? Well, knowing me, I'd make room either way." she stated, accepting Zell's deal.
"Oh, I almost forgot. Serah, Zell's not my boyfriend. Where I come from, guys make their intentions to date known. Also, he doesn't even know what I really look like, yet~" and thus her form was engulfed in light, as well as chaos; the very thing that gave her physical form. When light and shadow subsided, Lumina appeared about the same age as Zell with much longer hair than Lightning, neatly combed out just like their Mother. She was also slightly taller than Zell, by an inch.

"Aren't I just a reflection...?"
"Why am I here..."
Something happened as she approached Serah that likely changed her life. Altered her destiny, in a way that must have disrupted the world balance. Chaos was meant to reign, to consume Lumina in the despair of truth that was to come. That she had no purpose right now, nothing to protect, no reason to exist. Time... was a powerful thing.
Lumina knew she said the words on her mind, doubt, fear, paranoia. Things meant to deny the good thing before her. Her heart, broken and segmented as it was, resonated with a single name; Claire. Serah had acknowledged her without doubt, hostility, in such a wholesome way that she was so proud... yet she felt stupid as well. The very lessons that she'd planned to teach Lightning, eventually... forgotten in an instant. Even her uncertain feelings regarding Lightning, a veritable chaos inside her; subsided the moment she heard that her other half was hurt.
So, Lumina let Serah talk, she had a better handle on this than she did for one. Who was the big sis right now was up for debate in her mind. Not because Serah appeared physically older but because of her actions and benevolence. Then to make matters worse, this all unfolded before...Zell. She'd almost forgot about him and more so, the feelings that were pent up for months. Yes, she was relieved he was alive and well. Proud that he accomplished what he desired too but...
"I dont know Zell, the way she hangs on your arm like that... it's so romantic!"
Lumina had turned to look to Zell in this moment, recollecting Serah's teasing now of all times. Then she froze up! Feeling like a broken computer, Lumina's emotions were so chaotic that she had no idea how to react at all. One thing kept going through her mind, romantic. Lightning would never behave that way with someone. What was she thinking?! Her cheeks were slowly reddening with each passing moment. Shame, confusion, disbelief. Shame because she vividly recollected Lightning's feelings pertaining to Serah and Snow. She might have even agreed to an extent, given how she tortured Snow at times, while felt a bit bad for him at other points. Serah deserved better, someone properly educated, with a good head on his shoulders, that could help her reach her potential. That's what she was thinking but if that's what Serah deserved, then hadn't Snow achieved all that, in his own way? Given how Serah handled things just now... That was a yes.
Wasn't Zell kind of like Snow? This thought led to some dangerous territory. One that short circuited Lumina's logical mind for good. So, she ended up crying. As if to further cement her shame, for being a hypocrite maybe but whose fault was that? She wasn't in the driver's seat, "I'm so sorry, Serah..." she began, her breathing laboured between her sobbing. "I never wanted to throw away the name our Mom gave us. I just... I wanted to make sure that Lightning remembered what she did, to me, to you... What she gave up. Then when I arrived here, I thought I could get back the life she took from me. Just be normal, not some saviour. I'm not strong enough to be on my own and if Lightning was hurt, like you said... Then I should return the pieces she threw away. You can't change the past and I am who I am, because of Lightning." this was the right thing to do, even entertaining notions of individuality at a time like this was absurd.
Strangely, she couldn't move, falling to her knees as she lost motor control. "Am I a hypocrite? There's no way Lightning would fall for someone like Snow right? T-those weren't romantic feelings, isn't it rational to...none of what I did was rational!" thus Lumina's thoughts ran away from her.

"I won't go back..."
This world doesn't matter, I'm just here to have some fun of my own. Until my time is up and I've played my part...
Initially, Lumina was all smiles and soft laughter. She had no intention of letting him go, not again. It was the most dominant thought on her mind, it took over everything else she felt. Why? Well, for months she'd been alone with her thoughts. Thinking she'd done something wrong. Zell didn't even say goodbye! "I would have at least given him some money if he had..." were some of her thoughts back then. That said, it seemed their feelings were in reverse. Where Zell felt weighed down, chained. Lumina was excited and relieved.
Soon this began to switch, all in real time for Serah to see. Once Zell had given up escaping her, he begun to explain the truth of their situation. Maybe that's what depressed her? Certainly a sobering remark, which caused her to finally look at the one in their company. Serah. Her eyes widened and she couldn't help but stare, clearly in disbelief at first. Then she picked up the stray thought Serah had, before her course correction. Was it recognition perhaps? She did call her Lumina, Serah of all people calling her such, depressed her. Of course, given the circumstances, it could just be that Lumina was saddened by Zell's denial, timing was funny like that.
By the time Zell was jumping, Lumina had mostly loosed her grip, holding onto his hand. "Sorry..." she said sparing a glance to Zell. He said he'd tell her everything, the answers she desired for months. With Serah here, in the flesh... it didn't matter, at least for now. "...Can it wait a bit? I didn't know you met my...sister." she said solemnly. Carefully, she left Zell's side and moved over to Serah.
"This shouldn't be possible. You're not supposed to be here, not like this. Otherwise... what's the point in me being here?" she asked in such a cold tone before sighing. "I bet Lightning is here too then..."

Scattered Memories
This is a fantasy based on reality. I don't ever want to wake up...
Surprisingly, Lumina was tired. Largely attributed to being emotionally drained from the sudden bout of anxiety she had pertaining to Zell. In the end, his simple words, his easy going character and practical sensibilities, calmed her down. He even laid out a good plan of action, he certainly knew quite a few tricks. It left Lumina with a slight smile and a softened expression.
"You know, eating and sleeping so soon isn't really good for you. Might just ruin your physical conditioning too~" she teased before slowly taking off her shoes. She briefly glanced over to the small table close to the door where she left the food packs before shaking her head. Zell's simplicity, as charming as it was, amused her in the usual manner now. Which was a relief, given the emotions she felt prior. Once she slipped off the duster and the attached aerial, she'd fold it neatly and place it on the night stand between their beds. Next, Lumina wrapped herself up in a comforter and proceeded remove her stockings before finally laying back on the provided pillows.
She probably looked a bit silly being so wrapped up, not unlike a burrito honestly or one of Zell's chili dogs. "We should have enough for a long term stay. The real trouble is..." at which point Lumina yawned, apologized for the interruption, then continued. "...Making more gill to sustain our adventures. If we've got to travel around more to learn about this world and get some clues, then we should be prepared." she advised feeling her body relax now.
"I miss beds, all that camping and sleeping in the back of caravans. I can't say I'm a city girl exactly but I sure feel like one now." a small tidbit, far lighter in scope than the bombshells she'd mentioned previously. Ultimately, Lumina trusted Zell, so she felt no reason to conceal much about herself. Not that she wanted to bombard him with her entire life story. There was plenty of time for it, people didn't get their memory back in a day, yet alone a week.
"Oh...we should...get a map...tomorrow..." clearly Lumina was sleepy and dozing off rapidly.

Scattered Memories
This is a fantasy based on reality. I don't ever want to wake up...
Zell's surprising enthusiasm really helped to relieve Lumina's frayed nerves. She didn't think her powers would be met with admiration but rather fear, dread and so forth. In turn, watching him flex as he critiqued her transformation, caused her to blush more. "O-oh." she'd admit, more so in a strange awe than doubt in her own abilities.
Things moved on rather well, with Zell catching onto her purpose. "Mhm, transforming into the Monster still puts me at risk directly. So I prefer to fight at range and divert attention..." she'd admit, feeling a huge weight off her shoulder. Was it strictly guilt for withholding this information? Lumina wasn't sure but she felt like she was doing the right thing now and it made her happy. Especially as he complimented her and placed a hand on her head. The latter action made her heat up as her heart began to race. "A-ah, I-I've been protecting my sister for s-some time..." she'd reply, her tone clearly embarrassed. Though she wasn't protecting her sister in a way she agreed with. Unfortunately, she had no idea to explain what happened to her.
Lumina was surprised there were more people from other worlds here. She felt special when her world consisted of only them being foreigners. With knowledge of another person with amnesia, it made her think seriously about their getaway vacation here. Especially once Zell confessed his true feelings about their circumstances. She frowned, able to empathize with him but she felt worse for not sharing his feelings. From what little she remembered of her world, it was coming to an end. Life and death had ceased mostly, hence her age difference. Lumina's gaze softened, even as a bunch of emotions swirled through her lithe form.
"I-I could help you remember?" she spoke up, far too meekly for her typical rambunctious persona. "It might take time for us to get back home of course... So we should try to enjoy our time here... together." she whispered that last part, feeling her selfishness getting in the way. Try as she might to help Zell, she really wasn't in a hurry to get home. Nor could she truly understand feeling homesick, not anymore that is. Most importantly, she realized why she wanted to confide in Zell in the first place.
Lumina... didn't want Zell to leave her. Not now... not ever... "T-these things take time, Zell." she added before looking down. If she did go home, from what little memories she had. Her goal was simple, protect her sister until a certain person woke up. Then she'd have to make sure that person hadn't lost her mind to a certain malevolent God. Then ultimately... her free time, her independence would come to an end.

Scattered Memories
This is a fantasy based on reality. Yet I've been having these weird thoughts lately... Is any of this for real...? ---------------------------------------------------
Lumina had become tense, sea blue irises focused upon Zell. She knew his mind was blown; that everything she revealed, was a lot to take in. Her expression softened, even as she tried to hold back the fear of rejection bubbling within. All of that tension, all of her worries, immediately washed away with a simple, inquiry. One that came from the most boyish, whimsical place that she'd seen in so long.
Speechless, that's what Lumina was, complete with eyes open wide. Her lips parted slightly in her own disbelief. A soft gasp escaped her lips when he rushed over to her. Leaning in once more, causing her heart to skip a beat. Then for it to get louder and louder as he circled her. Complete with a tinge of pink along her cheeks. When the barrage of questions came, she blinked at first. Then nodded in response to being able to change into other people. When asked if she could become Zell, she humoured him by...shape shifting into an exact replica of him. The process was probably a bit off putting. Wisps of black and smoke surrounding her form like some viscous substance. At least it was quick and when she was done, she looked at him with a raised brow. Waiting to see if he had requests.
The request... shouldn't have surprised her. Monsters, of course... so with his own expression, Lumina smirked before replying with his own voice. "Sure but I prefer to summon Monsters to help me instead. They're my friends and allies, remember that Behemoth back in Sonora?" she'd wink before changing back into the form he knew her by.
"I try not to abuse this power, it's...unpredictable, dangerous. People...would misunderstand or worse if they knew what it was, the full extent of my capabilities." she admitted and it wasn't a humble brag, there was genuine fear in her voice. "...Besides, I'm protecting my sister from this power." she whispered before taking the time to make her way to the other bed. Gracefully, she sat down upon the edge of it and crossed her legs. For a moment, she was just silent, processing everything before she started giggling.
"There's more to Light than meets the eye. That's why illusion magic and lightning magic, are my specialties. Though I guess I'm better equipped than most mages in this world~" humble brag resumed, old Lumina had clearly returned, maybe?

Scattered Memories
This is a fantasy based on reality. Yet I've been having these weird thoughts lately... Is any of this for real...? ---------------------------------------------------
Getting rest first and getting clothes after made sense. So why did Lumina feel so... insecure in this moment? She couldn't help but look down at her outfit, pinching at the bottom of her halter top. Gazing at the duster that was oh so fashionable. Once more, Lumina would nod albeit absentmindedly, in agreement.
Deep in thought, Lumina nearly missed what Zell asked. Registering instead that he was leaning closer to her. Much closer than usual, for him at least. Invading others personal space was of little consequence for the agent of chaos. Until the reverse happened, which caused her to become entirely red. "Yes!" was her reply, both immediate, yet clearly indicating she was startled.
Prompted to go inside, Lumina followed along and as per usual, was the one to handle their finances. To that end, the Innkeeper remarked that she was very mature for her age. Which caused Lumina to pout, muttering, "I'm much older than I look." Lumina wasn't known for having a short fuse, nor for being moody. No, those attributes were for her other self. Likely, still sleeping ever so peacefully back home. The passing thought of her waking up and moving heaven and earth just to find Serah, was amusing. It distracted her, briefly, from the dilemma of this world.
Taking the key, she'd examine the room number and make her way accordingly, resuming her leading position. Something was definitely up with her but until they had privacy, Lumina wasn't going to say anything. To that end, once she found their room door, she'd open it up and take slow steps inside. The room was... well it seemed comfortable enough, a feeling meant to evoke being 'home' was certainly in the air. Honestly, it'd have to do regardless and once Zell was inside, if he didn't close the door behind him, then she would.
"Sorry." Lumina spoke up finally. "I just... I realized, despite how long we've been travelling together, I haven't really told you much about myself. I was too busy worrying about..." she looked to Zell for in that moment, smiled, before continuing.
"...So, I figured I should share a little. At least, what I can remember." clearing her throat, she gestured to herself.
"...This, isn't what I really look like. That is, I used to look like this, a loooooooooooooooong time ago. I chose this form, to help someone important remember the past, remember who they were and what they're missing." her explanation was probably cryptic, though for once, she wasn't trying to be. "I'm not alone either, well...not truly. Inside me, I'm protecting the heart and soul of my little sister." she sighed, not feeling like this was really enough. Yet uncertain why she wanted to be so forthcoming either.
"Lumina... that's just a code name. We're a long way from our homeworlds, so it doesn't matter much here anyway. My real name is Claire, Claire Farron."
