With Lightining awake Serah could afford a little bit of leeway in her normally tight scheduale. She still insisted on not being gone to long of course, but enough she could get out and take a walk for a while. This of course only came after a surprisingly intense talk between the three about Serah needing rest that night-but also her own free time. Eventually Serah DID relent... but only on the condition that Mog protected Lightining whole she was gone. The idea of course got MAJOR push back-Mog became the weapon that kept Serah safe after all. But she finally got her way through her instance that the creatures around here wearnt that dangerous-and the the fact she could still use her magic, mixed of course a good old dash of that Farron stubborness.
"Besides... I still have the knife sis"
Provo had turned out to be the perfect place to take care of her sister. Its bustling trading meant that at one point or another any item she needed was likely on stock. On top of that their were several odd jobs she could do to get money as well. Oddly enough... their had been nothing for a teacher yet-but she woudnt have had time lately anyway. Maybe with Lightining awake now though she could look a bit deeper into looking for a position though. It was her calling after all-she loved teaching children.
She liked it here, it was peaceful and serene. Even as busy as it could it could the people were kind.... it reminded her so much of home. Speaking of that was something she coudnt help but keep thinking back to. She did that a lot, remembering home. Their was one man she thought of most though
"Snow...."
Was he here? Or was he back home? It didnt matter she supposed. Ether way she knew exactly what his thought process was. He was already out she was sure looking for her. Hunting her down. If anyone could brute force their way between.. whatever this was it was her hero. That much she knew for sure. A giggle escaped her lips as she took a seat outside a nearby restaurant and placed an order just something small for her breakfast meal-eggs and toast!
She leaned back in her chair and let her thoughts go back to the man she loved. All their time together. All his heroic moments protecting what he loved-protecting her as well. Of course she HD her moments to! But to her Snow would always be the truest hero of them all.
So lost in her thoughts Serah was she woudnt take notice of anyone that approached her at first. She was lost in her daydream of Snow-giving anyone approaching the perfect chance to spook her-whether they meant to or not.
She coudn't help but wish for her hero to come to her.
If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.
Ah, Provo! The friendly faces, the homestyled food, and the... smell of chocobo dung. Of all the things Zell had hated about Provo, it was the fact that no one liked to clean up after their chocobos. Balamb was a small country town, but it was nowhere as dirty as Provo!
Still, a part of the SeeD missed this place. It had been months since he left to find the answers to his questions; all of which the Gods mercifully answered. Not only did he get his memories back, but he knew why he was on this new(ish) world.
"Fight the evil of this world, and I may send you home."
Cosmos's words stayed fresh in Zell's mind. He was here because the divine being knew what he was capable of and what he had done in the past on his own world. He was here to be a hero, damnit, and he made sure that he'd fulfill that task.
But how would Lumina handle the news? As far as he knew, she wasn't from Zephon either. In fact, Zell figured that Zephon lacked its own heroes, which is why they came to this realm in the first place. If he could get Lumina to fight with him and Quistis, they could take on whatever baddies came their way! Right?
Provo was a lively as ever, but among the crowds was a flash of pink hair. "Lumina!" he shouted, breaking past the citizens to get closer to his friend that he had left behind. Yes, they had a falling out the last time he saw her, but Zell felt obligated to tell her the news. She's the one who saved him in Sonora, after all.
To his disappointment, the pink hair wasn't Lumina at all. The clothing was too light and cheery for the dark and gothic clothing that Lumina often wore. Plus, this other girl was a little too tall to be Lumina, too.
"Oh, sorry," he said, finally realizing that he came to the wrong person. However, ever since his trip to the Crystalus Divider, Zell's memory was back in full force. In fact, it felt like it was better than ever, and he actually knew who this other individual was.
"Wait, Serah?" His surprise turned to excitement. This was only the second time that he encountered someone that he had already met on Zephon. "Oh, wow! HEY! What's up!" He was practically sweating with excitement.

Scattered Memories
This is a fantasy based on reality. Yet I've been having these weird thoughts lately... Is any of this for real...? ---------------------------------------------------
Lumina had a lot going on during her months apart from Zell. Criminal enterprises didn't run themselves after all! Not that she told her faithful dog friend that. To him, Lumina was just trying to survive and thrive. After all, she didn't really have all her memories. Nor did the young Farron talk much about her self and her mysterious past. She remained elusive unless it had to do with this new world, Zephon.
Walking about with a business partner, Lumina was clad in something familiar but different. She was wearing a black dress with no sleeves, plain black stockings and midnight blue pumps. Albeit, with less of a wedge than usual. Fashionable was one thing but Provo required a lot of walking and once she got tired of her pumps, she'd happily put on some flats or sandals. The pink sash around her waist was very standard affair, as was the layered dress that extended about her hips.
Positive that she heard her name, she stopped in her tracks and began to look about. Her partner was surprised by the abrupt interruption but Lumina paid him no mind. Not when she'd heard a voice that she hadn't heard in months! She squinted her eyes as she placed her right perpendicular to her forehead. Looking about the bustling streets, until she caught glimpse of the back of Zell's head. Perking up, she looked to her business partner for a moment. "Let's continue this discussion another time, m'kay~?" not that she gave him a choice as she ran of giggling in excitement.
"Well, well, look what the cat dragged in~" Lumina cooed from behind Zell moments later. Just as he finished asking saying 'whatsup?'. Whatever the disagreement from before, Lumina quickly put it aside and attempted to cling to Zell's left arm. "I thought I lost you, I hope you got what you were looking for..." she whispered to him, largely focused on her friend, she only caught a glimpse of pink hair from her peripherals.

And spooked she immediately was! With such gusto and fire she might have mistaken the person for her Snow for a moment had the name called to her mot been about the farthest thing from her name. Though it did jog something in her. 'Lumina' She felt a certain kinship go that name-their was something familiar to her about it, but she coudnt quite place it. Though that training. of though woudnt last long as she identified the person apologizing to her and then almost immiedlty recognizing who she really was. It was Zell! Otherwise know to her as 'second tier snow' She hadnt seen him for a while! in fact, it wasnt sense she first started taking care of Lightining if she recalled, while she was still comatose.
She wondered how he had. even of course. He was on his own journey in this land. Had he found what he was looking for? She hoped so. For now though she would offer a bright smile, as well as a giggle at his mistake.
"Hi Zell! what, do I look like a girlfriend of yours from the back? hmmm?"
She was in a bit of a teasing mood, their were so few chances she could actually get one over on... well anyone she knew. Even Maqui was way better than her. That wasnt even getting into how well Fang or Hope could turn you around if they really wanted to, each in their own ways.
A mass of girlish laughter, familiar laughter interrupted them as someone ran up to them. A person who once she caught Serah's eye made her stiffen, her expression turn confused . Most who saw them both would probaly say 'wow she looks a lot like you Serah!' But that wasnt what Serah saw when she looked at this woman.
Not in the slightest.
For her the persons face brought up memories far in the past. Memories of children playing together near the water. memories of familial love. Memories of loss.... Memories of growing up far to fast.
Because as similar as it may look to Serah's face to others it wasnt. Because it wasnt her face, no...
It was Lighting's
That thought is what left her shaken even as the woman acted anything but how her sister acted these days. Clinging to Zell, even cooing to him as if she actually WAS his girlfriend. That part didn't bother her though. It was her face, her face. Her face and a feeling of familiarity deep in the pit of her being. Of long talks, talks and nothing else. She wasnt entirely sure that was so hazy. Without thinking words simply slipped out
"Wait arent you..."
But she cut herself off before she finished. What if she was wrong? She would just making herself look stupid in front of her friend and someone new. Heck even if she was right everyone in this world seemed to have some form of memory issue going on for themselves, so she could be right and STILL be wrong! So she resolved to change her course, though the deep thought she had been in, as well as all her confusion was hard to miss.
"....Zell's girlfriend! yeah that's it, I'm Serah, your Lumina right?"
If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.
"What?!?!"
So much happened at once that the SeeD could barely keep up. Serah's comment about mistaking her for his alleged girlfriend caused him to flail a bit and respond with a hard "No!"
Then, Lumina came from seemingly nowhere and clung to his arm. It was at that moment that Zell knew that she probably heard him shouting her name within the city. And despite his previous abandonment months prior, it looked as if she was waiting for him this entire time.
"Wait! Damnit," he shouted, trying to break his arm free, like an animal stuck in a trap. Of course, Lumina would likely not let him escape so easily a second time, making his actions more frantic. Eventually, Zell gave up and slumped forward to let out a sigh of defeat.
"No," he said towards Serah weakly. "She's a friend. Lumina's the one that helped me after I first came here. Before I went to--" There was an immediate pause where Zell realized that his memories had returned. After the communion with the Gods, he traveled all the way back to Provo to tell Lumina about what he found, just like he intended to when he first left to find out more.
"And yes!" Like a pendulum, Zell went from sad and defeated back into happy and excited. "I did find it! I got what I needed!" His excitement was spiking so much that he was hopping up while Lumina was still attached to his arm. "I gotta tell you everything!"
(notes)⏤ Either Zell is bi-polar, or he has such a short attention span that he doesn't remember what he was just feeling. I haven't figured it out yet. LOL!

"I won't go back..."
This world doesn't matter, I'm just here to have some fun of my own. Until my time is up and I've played my part...
Initially, Lumina was all smiles and soft laughter. She had no intention of letting him go, not again. It was the most dominant thought on her mind, it took over everything else she felt. Why? Well, for months she'd been alone with her thoughts. Thinking she'd done something wrong. Zell didn't even say goodbye! "I would have at least given him some money if he had..." were some of her thoughts back then. That said, it seemed their feelings were in reverse. Where Zell felt weighed down, chained. Lumina was excited and relieved.
Soon this began to switch, all in real time for Serah to see. Once Zell had given up escaping her, he begun to explain the truth of their situation. Maybe that's what depressed her? Certainly a sobering remark, which caused her to finally look at the one in their company. Serah. Her eyes widened and she couldn't help but stare, clearly in disbelief at first. Then she picked up the stray thought Serah had, before her course correction. Was it recognition perhaps? She did call her Lumina, Serah of all people calling her such, depressed her. Of course, given the circumstances, it could just be that Lumina was saddened by Zell's denial, timing was funny like that.
By the time Zell was jumping, Lumina had mostly loosed her grip, holding onto his hand. "Sorry..." she said sparing a glance to Zell. He said he'd tell her everything, the answers she desired for months. With Serah here, in the flesh... it didn't matter, at least for now. "...Can it wait a bit? I didn't know you met my...sister." she said solemnly. Carefully, she left Zell's side and moved over to Serah.
"This shouldn't be possible. You're not supposed to be here, not like this. Otherwise... what's the point in me being here?" she asked in such a cold tone before sighing. "I bet Lightning is here too then..."

She coudnt but laugh at Zell's response. It was just adorable! She gave him time to respond, but coudnt help but chuckle 7under her breath as she did. He insisted they were just friends. She was sure that was the case then, it was good Zell had some nice friends! Friends and family, the people you love. They were the in her opinion the greatest strength someone could have. They were what supported you when you were down, what helped you move forward. It was a power that could even punch egotistical know it all creation gods right in the face! Still she coudnt help teasing him, she wasnt sure why, maybe he just had a very teasable personality?
"I dont know Zell, the way she hangs on your arm like that... it's so romantic!"
.....Yeah she was having a bit to much fun with that. But she coudnt help it! Any other tome it would be her that was being teased by pretty much any one of her friends, so having the chance to turn it on someone was fun! Evenually she did calm down though, and smiled widely.
"I'm glad you were able to find what you needed Zell as for me..."
She was cut off as she began to stare more intently at Lumina. She felt familiar, close. Ot was like a fleeting memory. She felt like they had long talks-deep talks. Talks of sadness, talks of truth-ones they hoped to bring happiness.
But if they did why was it so murky for her? She made a habit of remembering everyone of her friends as close as possible. She was certain she would be even more intent on doing that with someone who looked so much like Lightining. She kept scratching her head. Searching her thoughts. But it wasnt until Lumina said one simple sentence that it all became crystal clear to her.
Sister
Sister
Before Lumina started talking, as she moved towards her Serah took off towards the fashionista before she could even finish the thought she had been having. So many solemn talks. Together after all that time. With a missing half, a missing piece. She was her. Lumina was her.... but perhaps even more than Light at times she was...
"Claire!"
She tackled into the arms of her 'other' older sister. The one who kept her safe while the other fought for everyones salvation. 'Claire' had been another type of savior for her, one she was as grateful to as she was Lighting. How could she have let those memories get so murky?
"Oh... you probaly prefer Lumina though right? Sorry"
But as Lumina was allowed to speak Serah pulled back and frowned. This world was so confusing. People from different places, different points, Different memories. Could they go back to worrying about straightforward disasters again? Please? Light and Snow can even be the hero so this one isnt an extremely complicated Time Travel death trip.
She gave a light sigh and tried to grasp Lumina's hands in her own if she allowed it. Of course whether it was Lumina from the past, with missing memories or something else the answer to that question was obvious, for her that is.
"To be yourself! You can be yourself, do what you want free from that burden.. and hey!"
She paused a moment and playfully poked Lumina's forehead.
"Now we can talk physciully to big sis"
Why did she consider Lumina that? It was simple. Lighting was Claire. Lumina was Claire. but they were their own person, Lumina wasnt jsut Lighting... but she was also her big sister.
It just seemed natural to her.
Bringing up Lighting though caused Serah to ball one of her fists at her side, as well as considerably dull her mood on that moment.
"Lightining is here yeah... though she was hurt really bad ummm by me and some others... she was being controlled by this evil bug and we had to..."
She coudnt finish. That memory was to painful for her. They had to nearly kill Light in order to save her. She wished she could make that parasite feel more of her pain even now.
"She's recovering though! She stays in bed most of the time these days and I take care of her and make SURE she rests. Shes been surprisingly cooperative for once..."
Of course, anyone who had been through what she had would he shaken enough for it she supposed...
She turned on her heal though not long after and tried to shift the subject to something a bit happier.

"Now that's not right. You're not supposed to throw your life away."

"Aren't I just a reflection...?"
"Why am I here..."
Something happened as she approached Serah that likely changed her life. Altered her destiny, in a way that must have disrupted the world balance. Chaos was meant to reign, to consume Lumina in the despair of truth that was to come. That she had no purpose right now, nothing to protect, no reason to exist. Time... was a powerful thing.
Lumina knew she said the words on her mind, doubt, fear, paranoia. Things meant to deny the good thing before her. Her heart, broken and segmented as it was, resonated with a single name; Claire. Serah had acknowledged her without doubt, hostility, in such a wholesome way that she was so proud... yet she felt stupid as well. The very lessons that she'd planned to teach Lightning, eventually... forgotten in an instant. Even her uncertain feelings regarding Lightning, a veritable chaos inside her; subsided the moment she heard that her other half was hurt.
So, Lumina let Serah talk, she had a better handle on this than she did for one. Who was the big sis right now was up for debate in her mind. Not because Serah appeared physically older but because of her actions and benevolence. Then to make matters worse, this all unfolded before...Zell. She'd almost forgot about him and more so, the feelings that were pent up for months. Yes, she was relieved he was alive and well. Proud that he accomplished what he desired too but...
"I dont know Zell, the way she hangs on your arm like that... it's so romantic!"
Lumina had turned to look to Zell in this moment, recollecting Serah's teasing now of all times. Then she froze up! Feeling like a broken computer, Lumina's emotions were so chaotic that she had no idea how to react at all. One thing kept going through her mind, romantic. Lightning would never behave that way with someone. What was she thinking?! Her cheeks were slowly reddening with each passing moment. Shame, confusion, disbelief. Shame because she vividly recollected Lightning's feelings pertaining to Serah and Snow. She might have even agreed to an extent, given how she tortured Snow at times, while felt a bit bad for him at other points. Serah deserved better, someone properly educated, with a good head on his shoulders, that could help her reach her potential. That's what she was thinking but if that's what Serah deserved, then hadn't Snow achieved all that, in his own way? Given how Serah handled things just now... That was a yes.
Wasn't Zell kind of like Snow? This thought led to some dangerous territory. One that short circuited Lumina's logical mind for good. So, she ended up crying. As if to further cement her shame, for being a hypocrite maybe but whose fault was that? She wasn't in the driver's seat, "I'm so sorry, Serah..." she began, her breathing laboured between her sobbing. "I never wanted to throw away the name our Mom gave us. I just... I wanted to make sure that Lightning remembered what she did, to me, to you... What she gave up. Then when I arrived here, I thought I could get back the life she took from me. Just be normal, not some saviour. I'm not strong enough to be on my own and if Lightning was hurt, like you said... Then I should return the pieces she threw away. You can't change the past and I am who I am, because of Lightning." this was the right thing to do, even entertaining notions of individuality at a time like this was absurd.
Strangely, she couldn't move, falling to her knees as she lost motor control. "Am I a hypocrite? There's no way Lightning would fall for someone like Snow right? T-those weren't romantic feelings, isn't it rational to...none of what I did was rational!" thus Lumina's thoughts ran away from her.

If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.
Things went from fast to chaotic in a heartbeat. So fast, in fact, that by the time that Lumina was crying, Zell was lost. Simply lost.
There was mention of their family; a mother who passed and another sibling named Lightning. The entire topic shook the smaller sibling in a way that he had never witnessed. The closest he had ever seen her to being emotional was how she would react whenever the SeeD mentioned leaving.
Zell didn't like it. It killed him on the inside to see her so upset. Thankfully, Serah was here to help with damage control. But that didn't change the fact that he felt partially to blame for this. Lumina wanted him to stay, yet he snuck off to find a way back home. And while his original intention was to do some simple scouting before returning to her, something just tugged him further and further away towards the answers he seeked.
His mission was a success, but at the cost of Lumina's stability. There was a way for him to return home, a way for all of them to return to their home worlds. But it may not be something that his partner would want to follow through with. At least, not alone.
An idea began to surface in the SeeD's mind. "Hey, Lumina," he said, squatting down next to her as she sat on the ground sobbing. "I found a way back home, but I know you want me to stay here with you. So..." his hand reached out to gently rest on her shoulder. It was to comfort the girl, to show that she had his support if she needed him.
"What if I brought you back to Balamb with me? Back to my world?"

Why do they always go where I can't reach them?
Mom
Lighting
Snow
Lumina....
That stray thought was a ripple among the words being spoken. A tinge of selfishness on her part despite it all.
She watched as Lumina broke into tears, and the first thing she did was pull her into a tight hug. For a time she simply stood their, letting Lumina get it out-Letting her cry. Serah didnt see it as her sister throwing away the name mom gave her. The same way she didnt think Lightining had. They both had their reasons for it. Sure Serah might have held some anger when she was younger when Loghtining had done it... bit it was becssue she just didnt understand at the time.
"You know I think mom.would say you chose a beutiful name, a fitting name... silly, you didnt throw it away you just... did what you needed. I can call you Claire now if you like, or Lumina... but you dont have to be sad-Mom would approve I know it! ...I do to"
She blinked. Once, twice, then a third time at what Lumina said next. Was she serious? No. She LITTLERY just got her back. No way...
Why did she always have to say goodbye?
Lumina didnt have to go back to Lightining for her to be herself! They could be their own person, she COULD fix that part and she would. She loved Light with all her heart but... Lumina deserved to have a life to. They.. didnt have to be one for that right...?
"Cant change the past? Now sis you remeber who your talking to right? I changed the past at LEAST two or more times thank you~"
She tried to play a little, but she coudnt maintain it and sighed shaking her head. She didnt like this. She searched her mind. She searched her heart to try and find sormthing to tell older farron, until at last it clicked.
"No one can replace you Lumina, Not even Light. Your special... theirs only one you.... so please dint be so quick to throw it away, you can have a life here... Light will heal"
She sighed once more shaking her head with a frown. no, absolutly not. she woudnt.... even as tears streamed from her eyes now she held the resolve to not let that happen.
"Besides Snow hasn't managed to punch his way in here and Light can barely lift her Gunblade. You cant just leave me here alone can you? Someone's gotta protect Serah!"
Can you?
It was meant to encourage, that was her goal. She wasnt trying to he selfish... just give Lumina reasons to stay-she deserved a life. She coudnt claim to understand... well any of the deeper parts of what Lumina becoming a part of Lighting again caused. but she didnt need to. Lumina... Claire... whichever she preferred. She said herself she had wanted to try and have a life-that was enough for her.
So please dont go
As her sister fell to her knees Lumina moved to hold her up, pointing her towards Zell as he spoke next. Words she knew would help Lumina, but words that clawed at her heart-for moment and without thinking she simply blurted out.
"Hey you can't just take...!"
But her words caught in her throat as she looked back upon Lumina.
She didn't want to say goodbye
But she wasnt the one who's happiness mattered here. Claire... Lighting and Lumina gave up everything for her, both sides of the coin did. They always protected her, always took care of her. They always found away.
She should be happy....
But she coudnt help the tinge of hurt that came with what she said at the possibility even as she forced a smile upon her face.
"Well there you go! Your boyfriend taking you to a new paradise sis! Free from all this destiny and Lighting and everything tying you down... you can just live and be you, you can be happy!"
'You can be happy' That possibility was the thing that mattered. For once Serah could be the one to endure it all for her sisters.
After all, they had been through so much more for her.
