The Dragonblade
While he wasn't keen on leaving behind his loved ones within the Dragonblades and returning to Sonora, Caius knew he had to go. Right now, Lumina needed him. And he needed to keep looking for a cure for her condition. Of course, right now his best bet to pull this off was currently nursing Ignis and Gladiolus back to health. It would take some time before he could get Noctis on board and confront this parasite directly. So in the meantime, he just had to do what he could.
He had, while making preparations to leave, been given a strange invitation. Some kind of pleasure cruise testing. Apparently, he had been invited in acknowledgement of all he had done for Torensten and its people. It sounded... Nice, but he had a job to do, and he couldn't see himself leaving his work in general, even just for a few days. Much less keeping Lumina waiting any longer for him than she already had. So he would just find someone to give the thing to, he decided. In passing, he had mentioned the invitation to Claire, hoping she might have a classmate that might be interested.
Of course, this proved to be a mistake. Because Caius had gotten partways to Provo when he was contacted to pick up Lumina and Serah, who had already made their way to Provo, and then the trio went back to Torensten to pick up Claire. Why? Because Claire had informed Lumina of the invitation, and, well... Apparently they decided they could all use a short getaway. And the invitation DID say you could bring your family.
Apparently the Farrons counted as family to bring, so here they were. On a boat.
But Caius wasn't really sure what to do on this ship. Because then came the kicker: Caius had never even taken a vacation before, much less done anything even remotely like this. Swimming pools, music, buffet foods and cruise liner scavenger hunts? This was all such a foreign thing to Caius, and he didn't know what to do with himself. He had done his best, mostly sticking to Lumina like glue, but there had been something on his mind. The intention had been for him to return to Sonora and meet her, waiting with her and keeping tabs on her until Noctis and his retinue had recovered from their escape from Sonora. Once they had, he would find a means to bring her to a secure location for them to meet, and Caius and Noctis would work together to try and drive the parasite out. However, with this trip… Going back to Sonora was likely no longer necessary. Noctis and Prompto had arrived in Provo safely, and would likely be ready to go by the time they returned. Which meant…
Caius was quite happy to spend all this time with Lumina and her family before everything goes crazy, even if he was still having a hard time with letting his hair down. But while the Farron family had essentially adopted him as their own, at the end of the day, those were her sisters, and he was still just the “prospective boyfriend”, as they called him. And Lumina deserved to have a little quality time with just her sisters on this trip before they returned. He’d already had adequate alone time with her, now it was her siblings’ turn. So Caius had signed up for an activity... Thing.
And it had been a disaster. Parasailing with a pyromaniac? Caius wasn't quite sure how he had gotten out of that one alive. But with the sun beginning to set, Caius decided to give Lumina just a little more time with her siblings before he sought them out again. He had found someone dispending drinks and had chosen something strong before then locating a free lounge chair at the beach. He didn't quite know how to relax, but he did know one thing. After that disaster, he at least needed a minute to recollect his thoughts.

TEACH THEM BOYS A LESSON
Wiping her forehead, Cindy stood up straight out of the car she had currently been working on. It was almost ready, she just needed to connected one last thing. Jumping in behind the wheel, she turned the key and listened to it crank over. "Now that's what I like to hear." Dropping the hood back down she turned to head back inside when she noticed that there was an interesting person, who handed her an envelope and walked away. Confused, Cindy opened it to reveal an invitation to a cruise.
Growing up, Cindy didn't really get a chance to go anywhere. Inside she was as excited as a kid in a candy shop. On the outside, she ran inside to get packed and ready to go. Did she even have a swimsuit? Oh, there it was. She really hoped it still fit, since she had gotten it a bit ago in hopes she would be given the chance to wear it here in Zephon. That time seemed to be presenting itself now, and she was happy for a chance to just relax.
The activites seemed endless here, and she hadn't stopped going since she had arrived. Parasailing had been a blast and Cindy knew she would have to do it again in the near future. She hadn't been very good at the scavenger hunt, but she fun while doing it, and that's all that mattered for her. The music was okay, not really her style, but it was good to dance to and it went with the theme. After she had her fill of food, she made her way over to the man with drinks.
After she grabbed her drink, she went to go find somewhere to sit. As she looked over, she spotted a familiar face. Making her way to Caius, she took a seat next to him. "Well call me a rats uncle, fancy seein' you here. Didn't really peg this your kind of scene." He was definitely not someone she had expected to see here, but she definitely wasn't going to complain. The last time she had seen him. Well, let's just say that van had seen better days...

The Dragonblade
While Caius wasn’t one for relaxing, especially without Vordun around to make him feel at ease. He was one thing, and that? Was tired. So he was at least able to close his eyes as he listened to the gentle eb and flow of the ocean waves. If he fired his flare, would Vordun be able to fly here? Would Vordun be able to detect its energy from all the way back in Torensten? They were still technically within the Torensten region, so it was possible, but… No. Vordun deserved a break. And not one spent cooped up in Sonora. A break that entailed being able to fly free in its own habitat. As much as Caius missed Vordun’s company and felt vulnerable without them, he knew he should be able to handle himself.
How strange to think that once, he was a lone survivor. Trusting nobody and looking out solely for himself. Now he was like a pack wolf, unable to even close his eyes and feel safe without a pack mate watching over him. Then again, back on Eos. When had he ever felt safe? Everytime he closed his eyes, was a risk that he would never open them again. That just as they had preyed on his family before, brigands - or maybe even daemons, would strike while he was most vulnerable. It had happened a handful of times, having his rest interrupted. And each time he had just gotten out by the skin of his teeth.
Truth was, the only change was that he now had the means to feel safe when closing his eyes — just not today. Even now, as the sloshing tides threatened to rock his tired body to sleep, he couldn’t help but listen for everything else. He remained still, the only sound that came from him was his own breathing. His inability to truly relax proved fruitful however, in that he could hear footsteps rustling against the sand, growing ever closer. He didn’t open his eyes at first, choosing to give his would-be pursuer a chance to turn away.
But they kept coming. His heart began to pulse at rapidly quickening beats. Whoever was coming for him did not speak. Did not announce their presence. Caius chose to feign ignorance to the approaching predator, to seemingly lie unconscious with his back to the skulking behemoth. He slowed his breath…
In-out-in-out… At a calm pace that obscured his intensely pounding heartbeat. Tailoring his body language while he still could from a distance, he pretended he was merely moving in his sleep as he slowly brought his preferred arm to his chest. It would only take two seconds to materialize a weapon if he had to. Two seconds and he would be armed. “Safe” wasn’t quite the word for it, but he could defend himself if he had to, and that was what mattered.
The steps stopped in front of him and he could instead hear rustling as they sat down on the beach lounge chair next to him. Did he dare sneak a peak? Why weren’t they attacking-
What if they were a magic user and planning to attack from point blank? An eye crooked open and quickly scanned the landscape, his hands clenching as he prepared his magic. That rock would be perfect for warping to and gaining the high ground. Caius decided immediately it was best he acted first, so he started to-
"Well call me a rats uncle, fancy seein' you here. Didn't really peg this your kind of scene."
That familiar southern speech shot Caius upright as he immediately found himself sitting up straight and jerking his head to look at Cindy. It was just Cindy. Not an attacker. Not an enemy. Cindy. It was ok, he had to tell himself over and over again, and Caius found himself choking and pounding his chest as saliva caught in his throat from suddenly unloading the breath he didn’t even realize he had started holding in.
Caius cleared his throat as he tried to formulate words, remember what she had just said and make it look like nothing was wrong.
“Lumey wanted to come. But I gave her some space to be with her family” Caius responded in kind. “She being the one I mentioned back in Sonora. The one in trouble.”
It took a few seconds more for him to get a few proper in-and-out breaths to regulate his breathing again. His heart was still beating at a mile a minute and he didn’t know when the adrenaline would start to calm down. So he thought it best to use a subject that would let her talk, and give him some time.
“I could say the same of you. What brings you out here?”

TEACH THEM BOYS A LESSON
Cindy watched as Caius shot straight up when she spoke. When he snapped to look at her, she put her hands up. "Woah there, didn't mean to scare ya! Though I should've known better, what with your history and all that." She didn't know EVERYTHING he had done, but he knew that he was a fighter. In her defense, she hadn't been around a lot of people in her life. It did make sense for someone with his past would be on alert at all times.
The next thing that came out of her mouth make her tilt her head to the side. "Lumey? She?" A small grin formed on Cindy's face at the mention of a girl from Caius. She hadn't known the man for too long, but they had gotten along instantly and she was glad to have him as a friend, especially since she didn't know many people here in Zephon. Maybe she should go out and socialize more instead of working on cars all the time.
"I was handed an invitation and there was no way I was turnin' this down! I've never been on a cruise before." To be fair, Cindy hadn't been many places before. She envied the boys for the fact that they got to travel all over the place. That was definitely the only thing she was envious of them for. She would never want to do the things they had to do, but she appreciated them that much more for it.
Taking a drink, she looked over at everything. People were smiling and having fun. This wasn't something she was used to, but it was something she could get used to. There was nothing to be afraid of here, at least as far as she knew. Until that something came around, she was going to enjoy her time here. "Have you had fun so far?" She had no idea how long he had been here, but it seemed long enough to be tired.

The Dragonblade
Clearly he had given away his anxiety to Cindy, and worried the mechanic. It was written all over her face. Cindy was understanding, citing that she should have known considering his history. How much had he told her? He couldn't quite remember. But then Cindy brought up Lumey, and the look she gave, Caius somehow knew what the mechanic was thinking. "Aye, Lumina. My... Partner," he answered then, deciding there wasn't really a point in hiding what they were from Cindy. He doubted that he would be any good at hiding it regardless. He could never keep himself from lighting up whenever he spoke of her, and Caius knew it.
Cindy had been granted an invitation it seemed, the same as him. He had figured her like him, completely stuck to her work and unwilling to get away from it unless it was necessary. It seems there was still much he had to learn about Cindy. "I turned down the invitation initially. But Lumina wanted to go, so... Here we are," Caius admitted with a shrug. A cruise wasn't something that Caius had ever known much about, so he had never really dreamed of being on one. But... "She deserves the world, especially with her current struggles. If this is what makes her and her family happy, I can take a day or two off work for that."
Not that Lumina would have had trouble affording this herself, considering she was far more well-off than he was. But he wasn't going to begrudge her wishes either. Then Cindy asked if he'd had fun so far. Caius had to think about that one for a minute. What exactly constituted being fun out here? He wasn't really sure. "I've enjoyed my time here with Lumina and her family, yes. She's been intent on seeing and doing all that she can while she's here, so we've been pretty busy. Though after I gave her space to be with her family, I was partnered with a pyromaniac for parasailing."
Which explained why he was out here, lying down. Caius turned to face Cindy, settling his legs over the side of the chair. He was probably far too casual about that pyromaniac part.

TEACH THEM BOYS A LESSON
It was true that Cindy didn't know a lot about what Caius himself had done, but she knew a little bit. She also know Noctis and the boys, so if he was doing anything like what they had been doing, then she should have known better. She never dared to go where they were while they were sleeping to bug them, even if they did sleep in sometimes. People who lived the lives the way they did were not ones to sneak up on or spook in any sort of way.
"Well howdy-hey, good on ya for findin' someone! Congrats!" She was happy for him! Cindy sometimes thought about looking into finding a someone herself, but then she thought better of it. She would much rather have it just happen naturally with some she knew well than to try to make it happen with a random person. That, and she never had much time for anyone with all the work she had been doing at Hammerhead. Sure, men tried. And failed. Usually pretty miserably, especially when PawPaw got wind of what was going on.
As she listened, she put her hand over her chest. "Well aren't you ever the gentleman. She's a lucky girl." Though she had never thought of Caius that way, she liked him well enough to know that he would treat a woman right. Not to mention he could protect her from just about anything that would come as a threat to her, or either of them really. He was a loyal friend, and she could bet that trait carried onto a relationship as well.
When he told her what he had been up to and then asked her the same question, she gave a smile. 'Bout the same things you have, except I wasn't paired with a pyromaniac for parasailin'. Compared to yours, mine was pretty uneventful. It was a lot of fun though, so I can't complain." To be honest, Cindy had been having a blast, but she wasn't about to just jump around as she told her story like some kid at a carnival.

The Dragonblade
Caius felt bad for worrying Cindy, but there wasn't much for it. At least she had settled into something calmer, now that they had moved onto the subject of Lumina. And even Caius felt himself lightening up just from talking about her. That was what Lumina did to him, after all. Just having her on the mind lifted his spirits, and he had to keep himself from going on and on about her, with a passion hotter than Ifrit itself. He had never lost that habit of his tongue loosening when the subject came up, though he was still working on trying to pace himself...
"Thank you," he spoke softly. It was strange to be congratulated on finding a relationship, but he supposed that was proper, wasn't it? It was cause to be celebrated, as it meant, on paper at least, happiness for those involved. Friends congratulated each other in these circumstances because they were happy that their friends were happy. That's how it works, right? Speaking of, maybe now that Alex had blurted out Prompto's obvious crush to Cindy, they might have a talk of their own? Though while Caius couldn't quite put his finger on it... It felt sometimes like Prompto's attention was focused more on Noctis. Considering Lunafreya may be alive, however...
Perhaps that wasn't a battlefield Caius should be drawing his sword in. Better to tactically withdraw. On the topic of tactics, apparently she considered Lumina to be lucky. Caius cocked his head, unsure of why when what he was doing felt like what anyone would do, but it was a compliment nonetheless and he didn't want to make her think he was ungrateful. "She's earned it. More than I can possibly describe. This, and more."
As a literal savior of her world, on multiple occasions? Someone looking out for her was paltry in comparison to what she deserved. But he did his best. That was his duty as a partner. Even if she wasn't some world-saving, god-slaying Goddess... He would have done this, all the same. She made him happy. Happier than anything had made him in his life... It was the least he could do.
"I am still figuring out what activities there are, I'm... Not quite used to being out here, like this. I'm usually buried in my work" Caius admitted candidly. "I can admit that I don't quite know what to do with myself in this environment. But I'm glad you're thriving. With how hard you work, you've earned a break."
He'd never admit that about himself, though. No matter how much he worked. Though he scratched his head when she asked about Noctis and Prompto.
"I know they arrived safely. That's a relief. I'm intending to check in on them when I return. Wanted to give them some space first, let them tend to their wounded."

TEACH THEM BOYS A LESSON
Cindy could tell Caius was smitten by the way he was acting, and she trully was happy for him. He didn't seem like the type to be used to being in a relationship, but she was sure he would get used to it eventually. If he had known her a while and they knew each other well, then it would be a lot easier. Relationships were usually pretty fun, if everything went smooth. Honestly and loyalty, two things she had seen from Caius, so she had faith that they would be a fine couple.
Let's be real, Cindy was decently aware of Prompto's feeling for her. Though she didn't notice just how deep those feelings went, she wasn't completely oblivious. She wasn't in a rush for him to blurt it out to her. They were friends after all, she would let him figure his life out on his own and deal with it all when the time came. Truth be told, she had no idea of her own feelings towards him. He was funny and that was charming to her. He was also very kind, and that went a long way with Cindy.
"Well maybe I'll meet her someday, I've never really had girl friends before. Truth be told, I wasn't like the other girls." Cindy gave a wink at that statement, as it was definitely an obvious fact. While other girls were out shopping and doing their make up, she was elbows deep in a car with grease on her face. She didn't mind though, she loved doing what she did. Growing up with Pawpaw had been the best time of her life, and she wouldn't trade it for anything.
"Oh same. Pawpaw and I tried to plan things on occasion, but it never really panned out." Then everything went down in Eos, and they never dared to leave Hammerhead. When he mentioned she earned a break, she gave a smile. "You bet your ass I do, and you do too! Work is important, but so is givin' yourself a break as well. You're no good to people when you've hit your limit after all." Everyone had a breaking point, it was good to try not to reach that point.
When she heard that they boys had arrived safely, it was like a weight had been lifted. "Thank whoever the gods are here. I'm really glad to hear that. I really hope Gladio and Ignis aren't too bad off though. I know it will take some time, but with Noctis and Prompto there, they'll come around after some time." Some time was an understatement, but the boys had a bond that no one could break. They had each other, and she was glad for that.
"Stick around long enough, and I'm sure you will" Caius remarked with a slight smirk when Cindy inferred she would like to meet Lumina at some point. "She sticks pretty close. I'm surprised she hasn't grown sick of visiting my workplace at this point." Her visits were always great though, and broke up the hours easily. Otherwise, they were slow and agonizing if he had made plans with her for after he was finished at the Rest. Though Cindy's other remark made him blink a few times and tilt his head as though he were trying to figure out if she were joking.
"I'm not sure about that. The closest settlement to my home was Lestallum. Most of the women there, when my father and I went there, were much like you. Hard-working, dedicated and not afraid to get your hands dirty," Caius pointed out. "That hasn't changed in the people I've met since I've come to Zephon. Celes is a hard-nosed former military general who now leads the Dragonblades with me. Yuna fights tooth and nail to keep people alive at her clinic, even with all that comes with it. Yuffie comes off like a child, but she's fought against world-ending horrors..." Caius trailed off, before making a face as something hit him. "Most of the women I work with have, really. Both of the aforementioned Dragonblades leaders, Serah, Cassandra, Garnet, Yuffie... And Lumina. Most of them have seen as much dirt, mud and blood as I have. You fit in with, essentially, just about everyone I've ever been close with."
He couldn't help a small laugh at that thought. "No wonder Alex says I have a type" Caius remarked, still blissfully unaware of what Alex actually meant. Speaking of meanings he never seemed to get, Cindy brought up that Caius needed a break as well. "Now you're starting to sound like Lumey" came another laugh. "First to advise rest and breaks, but it wouldn't surprise me if you have put in more than a few all-nighters."
Caius was like that too, but he wouldn't admit it. As for the boys... "I hope they recover well, and quickly. Ignis and Gladiolus have spent far too much time locked up. They deserve to experience the freedom their friends fought so hard for them to have."

TEACH THEM BOYS A LESSON
"Well, I don't plan on goin' anywhere, so that works out well." Cindy was glad she was getting a chance to go out and socialize. She was sure she could have on Eos too, but she didn't want to leave Pawpaw along for too long. Now that she thought about it though, that's exactly what was happening now. She worried about him, she really did, but now she was also excited to be able to get out and do her own thing. She would always hope that he was okay though...
As she listened to him, she took a drink. "Well I'll be. Maybe I was just in the wrong area then. Mots of the girls I saw were with their man, and they would just glare at me or snicker. They always seemed to act as if though I wanted to take their man." That would be farther from the truth. She respected those in relationships, and would never do that. Also, it didn't help that Cindy would fix what the man couldn't, so he would huff away in shame half the time anyways.
When he listed all the women he could think of that were like her, Cindy was slightly taken back. Where were these women when she wanted to go and do things? She loved what she did, and loved being around Pawpaw, but she was still a girl. She wanted to drink mimosas in the middle of the day and go shopping for things she didn't need. True, she would probably do that once in a while because she would probably end up getting bored, but it would be nice to be able to do. "I'll have to meet these gals, maybe they can show me how to be a proper girl."
Cindy rolled her eyes at the mention of Alex. "Well his type seems to be the unconcious ones, so I wouldn't take what he has to say too seriously." Yeah, she was still offended by what he had tried to do at the bar. Probably not something that she was going to get over quite easily either. "I'm sure her and I willl get along swell." Cindy had a kind heart, and tried to get along with just about anyone she came in contact with. At the mention of all nighters, she had to smile. "Pawpaw always kept those so lively, so it didn't even feel like we were workin'."
"They sure as shit do. Y'all deserve weeks of vacation after all the things you did. I know I work hard, but ya'll worked your asses off for the king, for each other, and everyone around ya. That's more impressive than what I do." She had seen a bit of the two boys during the rescue, and it wasn't pretty. She hoped that they would recover smoothly and quickly. They all needed some rest and relaxation after all of that, but she knew there were some hurdles to jump through first.
