[attr="class","skullbody"]"Hey boss. How about we go visit the Dragonblades? What was their place called again? The Dragon's Nest?" Enma says to Mu. [break][break] "Close. It is the Wyvern's Rest. And I suppose that we can pay them a visit," the shinobi responds to his horned companion. [break][break] "Really? I think that's just a missed opportunity. They have a dragon after all, and he probably rests there." [break][break] "That's assuming that they actually keep him there. I'm not sure if the populace cares to have a dragon in the city. Even if it's one that the king himself endorses." Though the same really could be said for Enma and his rather frightening appearance. This really never posed much of an issue since Mu preferred keeping him and Enma out of sight until it is necessary. [break][break] Keimusho and Enma had spent the better part of the past few months doing the odd job and additional often thankless deeds between Torensten and Sonora. Now that they were back in back in Torensten for a decent stint. It would be the perfect time to finally pay the Mercenary Guild a proper visit. Especially since if Mu says no, then Enma will never let the shinobi hear the end of it. With how busy the shinobi often forced himself to be, he never really thought about why he never visited the Dragonblades' headquarters. As he walked towards the Wyvern's Rest, his mind ponders what the Dragonblade's exploits may have looked like since the Ceremony of the Kraken Slayers. Had they have dealt with their issues with the Original Sin? Perhaps the mercenaries had equal or even greater adversaries to deal with now. All these questions and more would have to be asked whenever he made his way to the headquarters. [break][break] Once he made it to the entrance of Wyvern's Rest, Mu took a moment to examine the exterior. So, this is how to place looks. he thinks. The shinobi proceeds to open the doors and bows towards the worker at the desk. "Hello, would Caius or Celes happen to be in today?"

The Dragonblade
How long had it been since he had seen Mu?
A question Caius wondered when said ninja, and his spirit partner, showed up at their doorstep. Because the very worker at the desk was, in fact, Caius himself. Easy not to recognize him in civilian’s garb and with his head buried in paperwork, granted. Today happened to be a day off for both members of their administrative staff. Chance for both of them to study for a test at the magic university that was coming up, and maybe spend some time together. Caius and Celes had offered it together, as a thanks for dealing with all the mounting bullshit that had come up during Celes’ time away, and then again during Caius’ time away. Including dealing with the Rest holding a criminal in house arrest.
So it was that Caius had taken the morning shift, while Celes would take the afternoon. Fortunately they didn’t really need administrative staff at night, since jobs and paperwork could wait until morning. So the both of them were free to go by the evening. For now though, Caius had found himself rubbing at his eyes as he steadily went through processing jobs both incoming and finished. Their job activity hadn’t really decreased much since slaying the Kraken about two years ago, so it was still as busy as ever.
They really did need more staff.
Either way, he really didn’t expect to look up and see a familiar face (or the closest thing to their face considering he wore a mask) and emna bowing to him, asking if either Caius or Celes were in. Had he met Celes at some point? That was a story he had to hear. Caius pushed back the chair and rose to his full height, in order to tell Mu right away who he was. The mercenary stretched out a bit, releasing the strain on his stiff joints. He really didn't like doing this.
"Celes is probably off to lunch right now, but I can see if Caius is in if you want" the mercenary would lightly jest with a small smile as he stepped out from a desk far too small for him. "You and Enma are looking well."

[attr="class","skullbody"]Caius was indeed there. In fact, he was the one sitting at the front desk, to Mu's surprise. It was easy enough to overlook him as this was the first time that the shinobi has seen him outside of him mercenary garb. Thankfully Caius quickly let Mu know he was there thanks to his jest. "You are looking well yourself, Caius," the shinobi responds with a smile hidden beneath the mask. Well about as well as someone surrounded by a trail of paper could be. Though Caius's current position of dealing with paperwork, would not be something Mu would comment on. However, Enma would be a different story. The oni floated from the ninja's shoulder towards Caius's face. "Oh no! How far has the mercenary leader have fallen?! The Dragonblades have demoted Caius Dragelion... to office work!" [break][break] "Enma...," Mu says to the Anima in a somewhat stern tone. [break][break] "Common boss. I'm just joking!" Enma responds. "Though sheesh, I couldn't imagine doing all this paperwork on top of a mercenary job. I'm sure Mu would find this to be a pain in his tail and scales." [break][break] "I concur..." the Au Ra loathingly admits. Though a big reason why the ninja would agree with Enma, is that it would likely take up much more time than warranted, especially for a haul of paper like this. After all the Far Eastern writing script used in Doma was drastically different from this world's script, albeit it is much closure to Eorzean so it would be possible, but not ideal. "So, how have things been going for you and the Dragonblades recently?" The shinobi says, somewhat still on the subject of Caius's paperwork. "Given the amount of paper that is here, I'm sure that there is no shortage of jobs that the Dragonblades have been taking."

The Dragonblade
Caius didn't seem too surprised when Enma commented on the strangeness of him being here. Mu had tried to be cordial and not voice that sort of thing, but.. Enma was another story. And they weren't the first to ask today why Caius was manning the front desk. “The girls got the day off. So I’m filling in,” Caius answered with a shrug, making that a part of his stretches as he finally managed to get himself comfortable before stepping out from the desk. “It’s part of the growing pains of any organization. We have received a lot more work after the Kraken incident. We’ve restructured and I have been running the Rest myself, though Celes came back from Provo once our new operation was stable, to fill in for me while I had business to take care of. Right now we’re both here, so we gave the girls a day off. The girls being our two administrative clerks."
The mercenary cocked his head towards the main room for if the two wanted to sit by the fire and relax after walking all the way here. "I'm glad your travels haven't dampened either of your spirits" he commented, though Caius would quirk a brow as he turned to Enma for a moment. "Does Mu actually have a tail and scales?" he inquired curiously. He hadn't known Mu to be anything but human, but... With all that armor, he had never really had reason to suspect otherwise.
"As for work... After the Kraken, we've weathered the influx of jobs and hired some administrative staff. Celes went to Provo to help one of our leaders start a clinic over there, so it was up to me to train the new staff. Strange for me, considering I'm not used to staying in one place for very long. But it was fruitful, I have learned a great deal about how much more there is to this job than just fighting. I've trained recruits, done paperwork, trained staff, gone on grocery runs, and made time to meet people around town and get to know the town we've been protecting," Caius continued to elaborate as he walked into the main room, looking around the bar to see if he could fix up Mu some kind of drink. "There's also been some threats we've had to deal with. Kuja, who worked with the Lich. Sephiroth, who laid waste to Provo's square and may be at risk to strike again. And while Celes managed to quell the Dominant Clive's attempt to destroy Torensten's crystal, we had been holding him here on house arrest until recently. Not to mention the re-emergence of a parasite that once took over a host and slaughtered hundreds. It's been extremely busy, to say the least."
He would offer Mu a choice of drinks, even offering one to Enma as well even if he doubted they could drink. "You here to join up and lend us a hand?" he joked cheekily then. He didn't think Mu would actually accept, but it was worth a shot.

[attr="class","skullbody"]Caius clarified that he was at the desk because his usual administrative clerks have the day off. "Well, it's nice that your hardworking staff get to have a day off every now and then," Enma responds. "Mu here, has me on 24/7 duty." [break][break] "And likewise, you are a 24/7 jokester Enma," Mu jests. [break][break] The mercenary leader would inquiry about Mu having a tail and scales. In retrospect, Mu released that it probably wouldn't be obvious to someone who hasn't seen any Au Ra in this world, let alone in their home world. "I do actually," Mu answers in response to Caius. "Those are traits of my race, the Au Ra." The ninja then turns around momentarily to show the mercenary his scaled, reptile-like tail. "I suppose it isn't easy to notice my tail when you are in the heat of battle and obviously the bulk of my scales are hidden beneath my armor." The Au Ra then turns back around to face Caius. "I'm sure that you have noticed the horns on my head at least. That too is a racial trait, the one which allows for hearing, similar to how Hyur have ears." [break][break] Caius would go on to explain his work after the Kraken incident, which consisted of plenty of noncombat related tasks. Though he would also reiterate that there were still threats to deal with such as two individuals named Kuja and Sephiroth. "Ah yes, you mentioned this Kuja individual after the Festival of the Hunt if I remember correctly. The Dragonblades certainly have their hands full if the rest of these threats are as dangerous as you say... I'll have to keep an eye out." [break][break] As Caius offers Mu a drink, he jokingly asked if they were there to join. "I'm afraid not," Mu replies. "There is so much work that needs to be done through the shadows after all." The ninja then pulls down his mask, revealing his scaled face. "Though that doesn't mean I won't accept a drink in the meantime."

The Dragonblade
"Then stay in Torensten awhile. The body needs to rest to operate at full capacity in battle" Caius advised Enma, and Mu in kind. Completely oblivious to the irony that he didn't follow his own advice. His only rest lately was when he was with Lumina. Though his attention was taken by Mu revealing he was not, in fact, as human as Caius was. Instead, he was part of a race called the Au Ra. He actually had a tail! And scales! And those horns on his mask were-
"Those are real? I thought they were decorative" Caius admitted with a small laugh. He had thought it an ornament, and had never put stock in the idea that maybe Mu didn't just have a keen sense of fashion. "They are very... Draconic. You're not selling me very well on the idea you don't fit with the Dragon-blades" Caius cheeked, with a rare pun shot by the Dragonblades leader. It wasn't often that Caius was this laid-back, not when in the midst of the Rest. But with people like Mu? It came to him a bit easier. "Suppose enhanced hearing would aid your profession, however... Though I'm still not entirely sure what your profession is or who you work for."
It seemed he had already filled Mu in on Kuja before, and had simply forgotten. A lot had happened since, so he was bound to forget some details. But he was glad to have someone like Mu around, keeping an eye out. Even if he didn't think himself a fit for their organization, Caius wouldn't say no to Mu's aid when it was offered. Nor to offering him a drink if he was thirsty. Letting Mu take their pick, Caius poured a drink for him. And one for Enma, just as a courtesy. Then one for himself, because it had been a long day.
"Sephiroth tried to destroy his world. He claims to not remember anything of it, but he got into a fight that levelled Central Provo. Not very convincing that he won't do it again. He has two confidantes, Genesis and Angeal. Genesis is a pyromaniac, an unfeeling sociopath. Angeal is more reasonable but didn't hesitate to help him in a fight with a lot of collateral damage, either" Caius thought it right to share his intel, if it might help Mu with his hunt through the shadows. "The parasite is... Complicated. The woman that is its current host is..."
He took a deep breath. This was going to be heavier than he had hoped.
"My partner. Romantically. I have to find a way to expunge it before it takes her completely, and her body will have to be destroyed to render it dormant again."
Yeah, a LOT had happened since Mu had been here last, Caius having an actual romantic partner being chief amongst them. But if he couldn't figure things out with that parasite, it would be a short-lived affair.
"The Original Sin has been... Quiet, since Celes and I stopped their leaders. Too quiet. Their activity has slowed to a crawl, but I don't trust it. They have too many resources, and I don't know where they're coming from. I feel as though they are biding their time, but I don't know what for."

[attr="class","skullbody"]When Mu noted that the horns on his head were real, Caius commented that they seemed to very draconic in appearance. This was unsurprising given that the misconception that the Au Ra were descendants of dragons used to be commonplace in the Western regions in his world. "Funnily enough is that scholars in my world have had to challenge the idea that my kind were decedents of dragons. Thankfully they did because from what I heard some sought exile to a country that were at war with dragons. I'm sure that you could imagine how poorly that went for many of them." [break][break] Caius would mention that the enhanced hearing granted by Mu's horn would be beneficial to his work but expresses confusion as to what his profession is. "Well, I suppose that an adventurer would be the best label. We're not in the same place for long after all. I rarely take on job with the goal of seeking pay, with exception of some monster hunting jobs to sustain myself. Living off rations go a long way in saving funds." [break][break] "Perhaps this Sephiroth was brought to Zephon from a time before his attempt to destroy his own world. Not that it makes much difference given that he was willing to let the city get caught in the crossfire of his battle. Seeing that he has confidants willing to overlook that does not seem to bold well either." Such disregard for the surrounding when fighting didn't really sit well with Mu. It reminded him somewhat of Zenos yae Galvus's obsession with battle. [break][break] "By the Kami..." the shinobi says in response to learning that Caius's partner is host to the parasite. "I never expected you to be so tied to a situation like that. I can scarcely imagine the burden that must be for her."
"I suppose I could see it. Torensten knows a thing or two about war with dragons, after all. It's a surprise we've gotten as far as we did" Caius admitted following Mu's story about how their kind had tried to immigrate to a country at war with dragons, and how well that had turned out. "Have you heard about the dragons that came out of that gate and attacked Torensten, all those years ago? It was very difficult for Celes and I to gain business at first, just on our name alone."
But it was a name they stood by, considering their origins.
"That trust was hard-earned. And we especially couldn't allow Vordun to roam free here before the whole Kraken thing."
Before that, Vordun had only entered Torensten on occasion. Mainly when the populace was already fleeing for their lives from some large monster or other. Mu had been there for one of those times, at the Festival Of The Hunt. Something that had led to Vordun being allowed on that boat in the first place when the Kraken attacked. It was hard to believe that had led to Torensten finally growing past their fear of dragons, though Caius doubted they wouldn't flee if another one were to show up. While Vordun was like a big, cute puppy you could throw treats to (and sometimes they did!), they wouldn't be happy to see another dragon, he was sure.
"Not that far from what we do. You just prefer to work alone and without restriction," Caius remarked pointedly, sliding the drinks to the two. "Makes me wonder just what kind of restrictions you're afraid of."
He had thought Mu to belong to some kind of shadowy ninja organization that paid his bills in exchange for jobs. And maybe that wasn't far off the mark, and he just couldn't tell him? Caius wasn't sure if he would ever know. Caius downed his own drink as he considered Mu's words on Sephiroth. "I thought the same. But I also met him before the Provo fight. Something about him was... Unsettling. Enough for me to warn Celes to keep tabs on things in Provo well before the fight happened. Something is off about him and his confidantes both. Notwithstanding the fact one of them set a manor on fire with people inside."
Including him. Caius was still sore about that. And speaking of sore, know what was really sore to him? The fact that was his partner who he might have to stick a knife in if they couldn't fix this. "Yeah. Yeah burden is one way to put it," he spoke quietly. It was a burden on them both, really. "I hope your romantic life is a bit less dramatic."

[attr="class","skullbody"]Mu initially left the comment that Caius made about him wondering of what restrictions that the shinobi were afraid of as it was. It's not that he believed that he was afraid of any restrictions, but more so that he didn't have much of a reason to retort the statement for now. Instead, he moved on to other subjects. [break][break] "Sounds familiar. That was at the Moonwhisper Manor, was it not?" The shinobi responds to the information given on Sephiroth's associate. "I never managed to learn why he set fire to the manor, let alone catch his name due to all of us splitting up to search for clues on the murder that occurred prior. He certainly came off as uncaring as you said. It didn't cross my mind that he was this Genesis individual until you mentioned the manor. It was quite the struggle trying to get those people out of that fire, but we somehow managed." [break][break] "Oh, don't worry about any drama in his romantic life. After all, there is plenty of drama with me around," Enma interjects to Caius wishing better fortune for the shinobi's romantic life. "Speaking of which... he's not afraid of restrictions Caius. If anything, he puts to many of them on himself," Enma says bringing back up the previous topic. [break][break] The shinobi raised a brow. "What are you implying Enma?" [break][break] "Come on, boss. Just think about it. You are always covered by your mask and armor. You don't join any organizations and you always introduce yourself with a pseudonym. We all know that it doesn't help much to conceal your identity since you might be the only Au Ra in town." [break][break] "By the Kami..." Mu whispers under his breath. He then lifts his head and takes a sup of the drink. "I suppose that there is no way of not addressing this now. It is as Enma says I'm not afraid of restrictions. Far from it. Though I suppose that my reasoning for it would not make total sense to either of you. After all, I never had much reason to begin with." [break][break] "We'll let's hear it then," Enma says. [break][break] "I'm getting there," Mu responds. "Enma you'd hadn't gotten to see much of my clan before we got sent to Zephon, but that is much of where this stems from. For two years I dedicated my life to my clan. It was there I was given both my surname and the name of Mu. It may not seem like much time, but under their tutelage, I was able to become a jonin in quick fashion. From there, my clan and I would be there to assist in liberating our country Doma from the Garlean Empire. I owe much to them, including the way that I have been carrying myself over the years. In fact, without their funding I wouldn't have met Enma."
"He was aiming for the man who stole the body. Not out of a sense of justice, but just because he annoyed him. Apparently" Caius answered with a shrug. "Right pain in the ass him setting fire to the manor was. I had to hurry and get Celes and Faris out of there, after they had been taken hostage in the manor. Ironically enough, the very woman I am now involved with was also there, captive. I didn't have time to get her out, though she managed on her own. Something I regret not being able to do, given the time I had. The other two were unconscious and the manor was coming down, so I had to prioritize."
He resented that Genesis had done that, and still felt guilty for not being able to give Lumina the aid he should have. He was glad she had gotten out alive, at least. Still... "Celes doesn't remember who knocked her out, or why she was being held in the basement. There's still so much we don't know about what happened, though I suspect Lumina, the girl, knows more. I'll question her more about the manor when things... Settle down."
Yeah, that was an understatement. Things really did need to settle down before they could address things like that properly. Caius had a list of problems a mile long, he'd hardly even scratched the surface with Mu either. Speaking of, Enma inferred that Mu put too many restrictions on himself. Having just been teasing, Caius needed a second to remember what he meant. Mu claimed there wasn't much reason for it, but went and told his story regardless. Caius poured himself another drink.
It sounded like there was quite a bit of history behind him, his clan and those who had funded him. Caius didn't entirely understand, but it sounded important. And two years actually was a long time to Caius, so he at least got that part.
"I was teasing, Mu. You don't have to justify your creed to me" Caius promised with a gentle smile. "I apologize if my offers offended your beliefs. You are a strong fighter with a stronger heart, and I wanted to be able to help you with consistent funding, through means that I assumed were the same as what you were already doing. Alongside having you at our side when things go south. But the aid you've given has been more than enough, don't think I have forgotten."
Caius took a small drink at that. "Mixing mercenary work, adventuring and peacekeeping isn't the life for everyone. Even if part of me wishes we could afford to focus more on the peacekeeping" he admitted softly. "It's why I became Kingsglaive. To help and to protect people. This isn't the same life I led, not to a tee anyway. Though so far, the Dragonblades have been the closest thing to allowing me to do just that. Helped us fund the opening of Yuna's charity clinic in Provo, too. The people we've helped... The people she's healed, I think makes it all worth it."
