"Aww..." well, she tried and wasn't as disappointed after her initial remark. What was disappointing...the contents of the pantry. Rather, the lack of certain ingredients to flavour chicken in the way Claire preferred. For what was chicken with a bein rubbed down with a delicious sauce?!
"Honey garlic isn't really uncommon, don't you guys sweeten your food or provide some good seasoning?!" perhaps having a talented sister in the field of cooking left her all the more critical. Alternatively, she just wanted something sweet and given she was hungry, that could explain it.
"...I guess it's fine, I could whip up a decent sauce if you've got some staples in there. I'll leave the prep for the other ingredients to you~" Cooking was just like other chores to her. Launching into doing them and effectively making herself quite at home, was par for the course. Didn't help that she noticed his lack of finesse and all the post-it notes scattered about. She let him do the basics, with a scrutinizing gaze until she could no longer help herself.
Leveraging the notes, she'd get together what she could as she knew her way around kitchens. All while preparing to answer the smart questions asked about his dates. "A plus for smart questions, Mr. Caius. Though I am a bit worried about that last one. Who have you been interacting with that would go into irrational rage over something so...small?" there was a mix of awe and genuine concern at that. Said worry, called into question once more, who the adult here was.
"Fortunately for the dates I picked out, you're assured to be free of such woes. That kind of anxiety is no good for a...beginner, such as yourself. Big sis is very mild mannered and can talk about anything, really. She's super easy to like, she can charm anyone out of their last gil, only to then pay for everything herself." upon noting this, she rolled up her sleeves after washing her hands and got right into making idle hands useful.
"...My twin sister on the other hand...Hmm. Sometimes we're a lot alike but other times, she's...an entirely different person. It's...a shock to the system, I only ever get to thinking about it when we're apart." seemingly, a mind field was coming about, not that she wanted to sabotage her 'twin', she just didn't have anyone to talk to about her concerns.

The Dragonblade
He noted Claire seemed disappointed after looking into the pantry, and then started criticizing their stores. "We had someone more knowledgeable in cooking, but they disappeared. Happens often on Zephon" Caius mused aloud. "I can try to grab some things for next time, however. For now, let's make the most of what we do have. Miss Chere is as much used to dry rations and quick food as I am, so our stock may be a bit lacking."
Nobody had brought up the issue until now, and the member who disappeared tended to bring her own things to cook with. So Caius hadn't been able to accomodate a more discerning palette just yet. Either way, Claire offered to help with prepping sauce. Well, help she says, before she just up and starts it. Caius let out a sigh as he continued on his work.
"Just try not to bump or startle me, lest you risk burning the building down" he remarked pointedly. He was the first to admit he wasn't much of a cook. He could cook on a fire fine, but that aside... These appliances were still quite new to him. Celes too, he remembered the last time the two of them had tried to cook in hopes of surprising the mercs. The only surprise had been how much of the kitchen was covered in icicles from their attempts to put the fire out.
"A plus for smart questions, Mr. Caius. Though I am a bit worried about that last one. Who have you been interacting with that would go into irrational rage over something so...small?" asked Claire. Caius turned to look at her only momentarily.
“Two out of the only three dates I’ve ever been on.”
Blunt as a hammer, as always. Caius listened dutifully regarding the descriptions. While the first one seemed manageable enough, the second...
"She sounds like trouble" Caius mused aloud with a small laugh.

"Judging by how...nonchalant you were just now, disappearing isn't...Death, per se?" Claire practically shook in place. The idea of people disappearing was not something she expected in this rather fantastical world. It was like the dark twist of a fairy tale rearing its ugly head, snapping her attention in place. Caius continued, leaving a wide eyed Claire who was thinking a mile a minute. It...did explain how comfortable Caius and Miss Chere were with rations, sure but... Part of her felt that was just in both their natures.
Pinching her left bicep, Claire steadies herself so that she can work on that sauce. Given the mention of rations, there had to be some dried fruits that could be used to whip up something sweet and tangy. Once she got her hands on something, she was off to it. Whilst Serah was better at her, she was still quite good in her own right. Had to be really, to help out her Mom. As she ground down some ingredients into a paste, she giggled when hearing Caius' warning. "Only an amateur would do that."
Admittedly, that did mean that Caius cooking was...of such a level, so she'd try to be mindful. Moving her mixing bowl and taking up position a short distance away from him. It helped to keep him in her sights, just in case of other accidents. Not anticipating the revelation of Caius' dating disasters, after her remarks, Claire was rewarded with...a crippling fact.
"Yikes..." she whispers, before shaking her head. Unable to hide the pity in her eyes, she tries to momentarily immerse herself in making the sauce. Her reply to his inquiries left Claire feeling mostly on top of things. Especially as she had to make sure neither date was as disastrous as the two he mentioned. Yet she couldn't help but look...surprised when Caius remarked that her dear, beloved 'Twin' sounded like trouble.
"Serah manages somehow..." Claire admits in a softer voice, before feeling indignant. "A good woman is worth the trouble!"

The Dragonblade
"I don't believe it is. I think the nexus of this world brings people in, then calls them back to their original home when it deems fit," Caius responded in kind. "I've seen people die here. My memories on them don't get foggy. But when they disappear like that... Suddenly, my memories on these people aren't so clear. I know they exist, some of them have even held importance in my time here. But sometimes all I can remember clearly are... The moments, instead of the people. So my theory is they're sent home by the nexus, and as that person no longer exists within Zephon, parts of our memories fade with them" he admitted quietly, chewing the inside of his cheek while he worked. How many people that had been important to him had turned out this way? How many had he just... Forgotten entirely? How many of them had been Dragonblades, and he couldn't even honor their sacrifices?
Perhaps it was better not to think about it. Claire seemed fearful of his insinuation about dating, and Caius picked that up. So apparently that was a pretty scary thing. Probably best not to think about that too much either. Then? She claimed that a good woman was worth a bit of trouble.
As the food was finished and Caius would lay it out on the table, as flawed as it probably was it was at least edible. He would sit down across from Claire as he considered that statement.
