TEACH THEM BOYS A LESSON
"Sometimes it's best to learn that way, stick in the brain a whole lot better." Caius told her briefly of one of his experiences and she had to give a nod. "You sound like a group of guys I know from back home. I swear they never learned anything." Of course she was talking about Noctis and his group. They were always gettin' themselves in all sorts of stuff. Though, it did make for some mighty fine entertainment when she met up with them again. She was glad they knew how to defend themselves pretty well.
When the saddle appeared, it didn't take Cindy by surprise. The boys could do things like that, so she had seen it before. Though, she couldn't recall any of them having a saddle, but it wouldn't surprise her in the least. "You guys can do that too? I have some friends from my home that can, but they usually just kept food and weapons around." Mostly food, mostly noodles.
Listening to his advice, Cindy reached down and strapped her legs in. "Yeah, I've ridden motorcycles a lot in my life, so it's habit now to just grab on. I feel like this won't be too much different, if you really think about it." Except one goes into the air and is much bigger. Oh, and doesn't have wheels. Cindy wasn't scared of too many things, so this was just another thrill for her, and a thrill she got with Vordun took off. "Well I'll be, he's just as excited as I am!"
People seemed to be excited to see Vordun too, in a good way. It seemed he was welcome in the city, and she was happy to see that. Once they stopped, Cindy took Caius' hand and dismounted as well, making sure to give Vordun a small pet before he took off again. Stepping inside, she instantly took a liking to where they were. She wasn't one for lavish places, she enjoyed places like this a lot more.
Once she was starting to see more people, she was a little confused when they all started saluting and she turned back to Caius. He must be someone important to them. She gave a wave and a smile, to be polite. "Yeah, I got myself into a bit of a pickle." Cindy stated as she rubbed the back of her head. She listened to the conversation and laughed. "Be my guest! He deserves a good lickin' after all of this. Who knows what he puts others through!"
"Thanks for you help. If you ever need anything done on a vehicle or other similar things, find me and I'll set ya straight on the house." She wasn't really sure if she would end up being helpful to them, but she extended the offer anyways. Looking over to Caius, she smiled. "Where's this food you were talking about?" Leave it to Cindy to think about her stomach first.

The Dragonblades
Caius chuckled a bit at the note that they never learned anything. "Oh really? Miss Cindy, are you imposing that I seem the type to never learn anything?" Caius teased at her, not seeming offended by the plausibility at least. He had heard worse just walking into a tavern, after all. One guy even claimed he was some sort of bastard who had stolen his wife and dog. Or was it his sister? Caius didn't tend to remember all of the details to the letter when it came to nonsense. One of the few things that he was a touch forgetful regarding.
Though he was surprised when Cindy would recognize the Power of Kings. Hold on... These friends of hers. The ones that never learned, if she was talking the same ones... Could they be...?
"They sound like Kingsglaive" Caius remarked offhand. "Or a group of Crownsguard. Abilities are the same, just different roles. Kingsglaive, such as myself, were special forces military agents of the Lucian crown while the Crownsguard, well... Guarded. The crown."
It was likely she already knew this, if she was from Lucis. But he had specifically run down the explanation to see if she was. At least she didn't seem too fussed about the ride. She was looking at it like a motorcycle ride. Except this particular motorcycle was alive. And normally flew. Though Vordun wouldn't be flying today. But Cindy's exclamation that Vordun was just as excited to be moving as she was got a laugh out of Caius as they rocketed across the field. Upon arriving to Torensten, they had taken their time a bit in order to let Cindy rest from the ride and see the sights. Once they were in the Rest however, and got down to business, Caius couldn't help but notice the small look of joy spreading across Tomoe's face when Cindy implied she could give this client a piece of her mind. That got a small laugh out of him.
Cindy offered to help with vehicle needs, but Caius wasn't sure if any of them would have need for it. He thanked her regardless, though. It was still a nice offer considering it was essentially her means of income that she was offering on the line here. But then she brought up the topic of food. "Oh! Right, I did promise we would go out to eat. We can do that now, but..." he trailed off. "We do need to lead the girls to your car."
Tomoe shook her head, though. "Oh, no! Mr. Caius sir, just give us an idea of where the car is and we'll bring it here! There aren't exactly cars around to get mixed up with, so if we have a general idea of what we're looking for. Yuki and I can handle it easy!"
Caius smiled at that, gratefully bowing his head. "Thank you, both of you" Caius expressed his thanks then. "Cindy, do you want to give them a description of the vehicle and a rough idea of where we left it? I can help where I can. Then we can get to dinner."

TEACH THEM BOYS A LESSON
Cindy gave a chuckle. "Not sayin' that directly since I don't know ya that well, but if you're anything more like them, I'll have to stand firm on what I said." She gave a wink to let him know she was messing around, for the most part. Caius did remind her of Noctis and the boys, which is why she felt comfortable around him. Plus, he was helping her even though he barely knew her. There was still a chance that this could all be a trap, but it seemed less likely every minute.
"I'm not sure what it was called, all that I know is that the amount of things they could carry was way more than any normal person, and it appeared out of nowhere really." As he continued to talk, what he was saying definitely matched the four idiots. "Yeah, that sounds about right. Noctis and his friends showed up at my shop needing help with the Regalia. I nearly beat him over the head for letting anything happen to that beauty."
Caius mentioned that they needed to take the helpers to the car and she gave a nod. "Business first, I get it." Before she could add anything else, Tomoe said she could figure out where it was. "Sure thing. It's an older type, not much to look at to be honest. That should have been my first red flag." That was when she should have just walked away and told the guy to kick dirt. She wasn't that kind of person, when she says she's going to do something, she follows through.
"It's a dark brown, but I don't think that was the original color. Round around the edges, could have been a sports car at one point. Not a good one though, there's not even a hood scoop on it, it's just flat. It has two doors and the small back windows are broken. It's near the entrance of town I believe, not too far from here." She hoped that helped.
Cindy watched and gave a smile as the ladies walked away to find the car. Looking around, she noticed she was a little out of her element. She didn't mind though, she liked to stand out. Turning to Caius, she tilted her head to the side. "Lead the way!" She wasn't sure if they patrons were welcoming or not, so it was best to let Caius go first since he knew the place better.

The Dragonblades
"Well, I guess I'll just have to provide plenty of opportunity to get to know me" Caius cheeked at that, grinning wryly. His intentions were innocent, of course. But he could have his jokes. "If you enjoy lunch here, we might have to come back" he added, not seeming offended at the least in regards to her comments. Even Caius could tell she was messing around, and he had found some level of comfort doing the same in kind. Perhaps it was because she had reacted the way she did to Vordun. Caius did have a soft spot for anyone who didn't even remotely treat the dragon like a monster.
Noctis. That changed things instantly. Suddenly it became clearly.
"You're from Lucis" Caius suddenly spoke up at that. "It makes sense now. I thought your name was familiar. The Kingsglaive are agents of the King of Lucis. Where I came from, that was King Regis. And later King Noctis. Though I don't know from what point in time you were taken from, so I'm not sure which one of the two was in place at the time."
One look at her indicated it was likely when King Regis was still alive. Or even possibly after he had died but before Noctis had taken the throne. There was a ten year gap, after all. Caius had seen the mechanic working whenever he had taken hunting work around Hammerhead, and likely used her services during those times. Which would have been often, considering it was practically the only place left in Lucis you could refuel your vehicle after the Starscourge happened. He hadn't really been on any sort of terms with the mechanic, Caius had kept his distance from people for a very long time. But now that he got a good look at her... It was pretty clear they were one and the same. It was a bit surreal seeing her with a much younger face, especially when Caius himself was far older than he would have been when he had met her other incarnation.
Perhaps he would keep some of those details under wraps. Though he had already said "King Noctis", so... Oops.
Though he couldn't help but laugh when he remembered the context of the name drop. "That sounds like the Noctis I've met. The one here, I mean. Time is a little bit weird in this world, it can take you from any point in your world's history and it doesn't seem to change things for anyone else in it. The Noctis I knew was King, while this one is... Well, I guess I'm not too surprised if he crashed the Regalia."
Cindy would give the description of the vehicle and Tomoe would give a salute at that. "I can find it, Miss Cindy! Leave it to Yuki and me!" she proclaimed before running out. Caius was about to stop her, but she was already gone. The mercenary let out a long sigh as he began organizing the desk she had left. Might as well ensure it looked neat and tidy, and that no important documents were left out, in case anyone came while they were gone. "I used to have a car myself. Nowhere near what the Regalia used to look like, mind you. It was probably closer to the one we were pushing. Old model" Caius mused aloud as he worked. "I built it. Out of spare parts. It didn't work fantastic, but I didn't have much for resources and barely any funds either. It was a full time job just keeping it running. I kind of miss it, though. It was easier than walking and the only place I felt safe enough to sleep."
With that, he finished his work and dusted off his hands. "Alright, apologies for the delay. Let's get going" Caius offered then as he led the way out. Torensten's streets were constantly busy with how populous the place was, and there weren't sidewalks like with Sonora. Everything was open. Crowds were commonplace, though they tended to part a bit when Caius walked through. At first he had thought they were just being polite, but apparently with his size, Caius just tended to stand out enough to be recognizable. Though these crowd stops did mean he had to hold out an arm for Cindy at times to ensure they weren't separated. Luckily, their destination wasn't too far from the Rest.
It was an outdoor restaurant, with an open-window registry for reserving a table. The borders of the restaurant were designated through half-walls with tops covered in local flowers. It was essentially a garden in restaurant form.
"I found this place a little while ago. The food's pretty good, decently priced and the flowers are always nice to look at" Caius brought up as he moved to get them a table. "I've been trying it out recently. I promised my co-leader that I would keep a lookout for places to eat in the few times we actually decide to take a break."
Oh look at that, he'd outed his job title by accident. Oops.

TEACH THEM BOYSA LESSON
"I'll hold you to that." Cindy had always been a friendly person, even though her personality could seem a bit, different at times. She wasn't rude, but she would tell you straight up how she felt. "I'm always game for food." It was the way to her heart. If you ever pissed Cindy off, bringing her food was a good way to start mending things with her. She liked just about everything and anything. When you worked at a mechanic shop in the middle of pretty much no where, you had to eat what you could get.
"Yes I am, the Leide region to be more specific. Why do-" She then listened to him. So he knew them, well Noctis at least. This was a surprising turn of events. "I was taken while Regis was ruling and Noctis was off to see miss Lunafreya. I think that's what he said, he wasn't much of a talker. That was all Prompto, but his words were all jumbled half the time." Poor Prompto.
Cindy did notice that he had said King Noctis, but that wasn't a surprise to her. He was next for the throne after all, and Regis wasn't his young self anymore. Being the king also made you a target, so anything could have happened to him to have his son take over. It seemed the Noctis Caius knew was all grown up, but the one she knew was here. "Don't tell him what he grows up to be like, it might stress the poor guy out."
There had to be things that changed Noctis to become the king Caius knew, and she wasn't sure she wanted to know what that was. He was a quite the young man, though a bit odd. If he was more serious in the future, well he didn't need to know that now. It was a different world and their futures were going to be much different. Though she was curious what her future self was like, she decided not to ask. If he wanted to tell her, that's fine, but she wasn't going to dig for it. She was fine with who she was now.
"Cars match their owners, if that makes any sense at all. Yours for example? You have to put a lot of work into it, just like I assume you had to put a lot of work into who you are today." Leave it to Cindy to compare cars to humans. "I never really had a vehicle all to myself. People would leave their unwanted cars with us and I would work on them and use them until another one came around and I sold the current one." She was planning on buying her own, but she had never gotten around to it.
Following Caius out onto the street, she looked around. She wasn't used to bigger places like this, and she wasn't sure she wanted to get used to it. She liked little towns where everyone knew each other and it was just a short walk to get anywhere. When the crowds stopped, she would take his arm. Cindy liked people, but this was a little much for her. The little place he led her to was pretty. Yes, she caught that little fact. "Co-leader? So you're a big boss type, are ya?"

The Dragonblades
Caius laughed a bit when Cindy claimed she would hold him to that. And that she was game for food. "As am I" he agreed at that. "As am I". Caius was always fairly busy, so he had to get his meals when he could. But being as busy as he was tended to beget a need for a fair bit of food. So Caius wasn't going to turn down a chance to get some good food in. He wasn't terribly picky either, given his background. But he did have some comfort foods of his own. Mainly things he was used to eating back in the day that he knew were safe and delicious.
So Cindy was from just before King Regis was slain. Caius chewed the inside of his mouth at that, unsure of if he should tell her more. Perhaps it was for the best that she didn't know, he didn't know for sure. Though when she brought up not to tell Noctis what he was to become, Caius laughed nervously. "Yeah, that... Would be a very... Very bad idea. For sure" Caius agreed sheepishly. Unfortunately, Caius was a terrible liar and his manner of speech probably gave away immediately that it was far too late.
Whoops. When they got to the point that Caius had talked of his vehicle, Cindy expressed that cars matched their owners. Saying that like his car, he had to put a lot of work into who he was now. That got another chuckle. "You have no idea" Caius mused aloud in agreement, with amusement at the thought. Cindy talked about never having a vehicle to herself, which he understood. "I was pretty young when the Nifs attacked and things got crazy. I didn't really have the opportunity to be taught to drive, or have much time owning a smartphone, or get to experience any of the tech in Lucis really. So that car I built from scrap was about the only link to the way the world was before the fighting started, and my only sanctuary. I do miss it" he expressed at that, lost a moment in memories but eventually finding his way back. "I could probably build another one if I spent enough time in Provo. But Torensten has no paved roads, and Vordun gets me everywhere I need to be."
He'd traded a car for a dragon. An interesting direction, that's for sure. It was clear Cindy was getting a little uncomfortable with the crowds though, so Caius had tightened his grip on her arm a bit to remind her he was there and wouldn't be letting her get lost. Once they arrived, he soon requested a table towards the corner of the establishment. That way they wouldn't have people walking by them and they could enjoy some measure of peace. It was just as much Caius' preference as it was hers. But it seemed he'd also dropped his job title on accident, which got a shrug from him when Cindy pointed it out.
"I guess" Caius expressed casually. "Celes and I founded the Dragonblades to give people stuck in this world a place to work and to find community. And to help people who need it. Many of us are monster hunters, or have the capability for it thanks to a lifetime of combat in our old worlds. While we do jobs for money, we do our best to be there to protect people when things get heavy. Which around here... Is fairly often."

TEACH THEM BOYS A LESSON
"We worked up quite an appetite today." Between moving the car and finding people to help, it had been quite the day so far. Speaking of doing a lot of work. "What does that partner of yours eat anyways?" She had never been around a dragon, or really learned anything about them for that matter. It would be good to know, just in case she ever ran into one in the future.
The way he spoke almost made her stop dead in her tracks. Cindy could tell when someone was lying, she had been in the customer service industry for far too long to not be able to. "Awe man, well I hope he's okay. He is far too timid to analyze things properly." Whenever she saw him in the past, he had no idea what he was even doing, or had very little idea. The fact that she had no idea if the other three were here to help him also worried her.
Cindy gave a small shrug. "My papa taught me to drive when I was about five. Living in a small town in the middle of nowhere had its advantages. You could go somewhere to drive without endangering anyone." Those were definitely some of her best memories. She listened to his story, nodding where she should nod. Looking around, she noticed he was right. "Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a need for cars here, which should have been another sign with that jerk."
When his grip tightened, she felt a little more calm. She was relieved when he got a table away from the hustle and bustle of everything. She was glad for that because it would make her just a little less nervous. Eating anywhere made her a little anxious sometimes because she was the kind of person to take her time looking things over to find the meal she really wanted, and it wasn't fun when there was people around.
"Dragonblades, I think I've heard that. Just in passin' though." Cindy tried not to listen in on too much. Most of it didn't really concern her anyways. There was times where her customers would rant to her while they waited for their service to be done, and she just tuned them out half the time. "Well aren't you just the helpful type." She gave him a smile, but it wasn't meant to be rude. He did a lot for people, and she had to appreciate that.

The Dragonblades
"Meats, mostly. He likes fish" Caius expressed when Cindy asked about Vordun's dieting habits. "He's a dragon, he eats a lot. But Torensten is home to some... Very filling species of fish, it turns out. Very large, and meaty. I only found out recently that Vordun's been hunting these creatures on his own. Makes me a very proud dragon dad" he remarked with a small laugh. Indeed, it had been a shock when he and Noctis had fished up that monstrosity, only for Vordun to act like it was another day in the office around the thing. It didn't take long for the two to figure out that Vordun had clearly done this before.
As for Noctis himself, well... Caius wouldn't pretend he was a good liar. He smiled sheepishly when Cindy made it clear that she had figured out what had happened quickly enough. And gave her analysis on what she knew of Noctis. "It was a little awkward sitting there fishing with the man who used to be my King, without him knowing" Caius had to admit at that. "Sooo I may or may not have decided to just tell him, since he kept asking why I was so insistent on helping him. The "I served your father" thing wasn't going to work because I do not lie well."
That was an understatement. Cindy talked about her father teaching her to drive when she was five, which got a bittersweet smile out of him. Caius wished his parents had lived to teach him to drive like that. "I grew up on a chocobo farm, until I was 13. Having a place out in the country like that is nice. Plenty of room to do what you like without worrying too much" Caius responded at that. "I learned to ride chocobos at five, at least. Same way as you in that we had lots of room for us to go wild". They were good memories. He wished they weren't marred by what had come next.
Though he did smirk a bit when she brought up yet another sign that the job was sus. "I'll accompany you to the meeting when we're done here" Caius offered. "If he's holed up in the city, it won't be hard for him to know who I am by sight."
That wasn't a boast, and Caius' tone carried no pride at the remark. It was just a strong likelihood, nothing more. Speaking of the Dragonblades, Cindy had heard of them. But just in passing. "I will admit that when we made that pledge to defend the people alongside our mercenary duties... I wasn't quite expecting a Kraken to attack Torensten" Caius admitted with a soft chuckle. "Giant octopus thing. Had like a hundred tentacles. Conjured up a giant storm that threatened to swallow the city whole by itself. We needed this massive crystal just so the waves wouldn't destroy our ship."
THAT came with a little bit of pride. The tone was light, but Caius clearly looked glowingly upon the fight itself.

TEACH THEM BOYS A LESSON
Cindy was actually a little surprised to hear that Vordun liked fish, but it did make sense. "He has good taste." Cindy was a pretty big fan of fish, though she was fan of all food in general. Customers would bring them dishes sometimes as thanks or just because, so she got to try all sorts of things growing up. That was probably one reason she took forever to decide what to eat. Did she eat something she knew she liked, or try something new? "I don't blame ya."
"I can tell." Cindy pointed out, indicating she could tell he wasn't the best liar. Cindy was only a little worried though. If Noctis and his friends could go on the adventure they did and given his family history, she was sure Noctis would be fine after everything sank in. "He may be young, but I'm sure he'll be alright after a bit." Then she thought that maybe Caius knew more. "Do you know if his friends are here too?"
Cindy listened to his story and smiled a little bit. "As strange as this may sound, but I have never been on a chocobo before. I didn't leave the shop too often, and when I did, it was to pick up a broken down car and tow it back." She loved her papa, but he never really let Cindy venture out on her own. Not because he didn't want her to, but he needed her around the shop.
"Oh you're more than welcome to do that. I'm not a confrontation person, so I would end up just dropping the car off and leaving. So someone being there to put him in his place would be helpful." Maybe Caius could convince the guy to never do this again. Hopefully.
Shivering a little, Cindy gave a nod. "I've heard about those, and I'm glad to say I've never seen one in person." That was one reason that she was glad her papa never let her go off on her own, she was a lover not a fighter. The waiter came around and Cindy ordered the first thing she saw that she liked since they had spent so much time talking that she hadn't even looked at menu. It was some sort of pasta thing, so she expected it would be good. Adding a tea to it, she waited for Caius to order as well.

The Dragonblades
“Most kinds of meat are on that dragon’s palette. But fish is the easiest one for us to obtain. And Vordun enjoys eating it, so all the better” Caius responded with a gentle smile at that, his expression always seeming to brighten whenever he was talking about Vordun. It was when Caius’ expressions most often turned from only lightly showing emotion at best most times, to full expression. In this case, he was almost beaming.
Well, at least they were in agreement that his skill in lying needed… Room for improvement. To say the very least. She was confident that Noctis was fine though, which was good. Caius was still learning about this younger Noctis who didn’t have all the experiences of a King. Knowing that he at least was still capable from someone that had met him back in their native world at least set his mind at ease a little bit. Though her asking if his friends were here was a bit more… Complicated.
“Yes,” seemed like the best answer to go with. “Prompto is with him. The other two are in a more… Complicated situation, though I am not at liberty to provide all the details. They’re trying to figure out their next move.”
It was confidential. Simple as that. He didn’t know enough about Cindy’s relationship with the Chocobros to get her up to speed on the imprisonment of two of them. Nor the plans to bust them out.
So she had never been on a chocobo? It was hard for him to believe given Hammerhead was so out in the country. “I suppose even if you could move outside home, you’ve never needed to ride one, given how early you were driving” Caius brought up at that. It was the logical conclusion to come to, given Cindy’s history. Still, was Lucis really that dangerous prior to the daemons showing up? Or the warmongering of the Nifs? Caius was pretty young when the Nifs started putting pressure on Lucis following their taking Tenebrae. “I recommend it, though. Some are a bit more temperamental than say, Vordun. But that’s part of the fun. They have quirks that need to be worked around, kind of like how machines all work a little bit differently.”
Caius laughed a little when Cindy admitted to not being a confrontational person, even if it’d be nice to teach the punk a lesson. “Just because you’ve been so nice, I’ll bring Vordun. That should set them straight” he remarked, flashing a rarely shown hint of a mischievous grin.
Cindy ordered pasta, which piqued Caius’ curiosity. Looking at the menu… It kind of resembled cup noodles, didn’t it? Deciding it couldn’t hurt to try, Caius ordered the same.
“Yeah, coming back to the Rest half drowned and almost freezing to death wasn’t fun” Caius had to admit. “We’d have been dead if not for Vordun. We had no choice but to load up on the lifeboats and have Vordun pull us to safety. The storm was capsizing the ship and would have taken the lifeboat too if Vordun hadn’t kept us steady. The poor thing was exhausted by the time we got to shore. I made sure he ate plenty after that. He was very pampered for a few days.”
