[attr="class","infoNotes"]Ah. Yes. Let's warm you up from your chill.
[attr="class","crashLyrics"]A Cold Day In Hell
[attr="class","crashBody"] “By the brink of death? Were you near death when you got pulled?” She asked, her copper eyes wide with curiosity and concern. She huffed a mirthless laugh “When were we not when working for Shinra?” Why should she even be surprised? She looked out the frosted window. “I was in Midgar during the meteor fall.” She closed her eyes as if she could still taste the mako “I was swept away by the lifestream as it rushed to meet the calamity.” Like warm water that filled her lungs until she lost consciousness and woke up here. [break][break] “Or maybe the sentience that called us here did know what it was doing. Turks solve problems, thus we seem the elite to be beckoned.” What the sentience didn’t know is that Turks were like a pack of cats with its own rules. It had to convince them what the benefit was to assist. Or force the Turks’ hand. [break][break] She turned to look at the glass in his hand, before turning to gaze down at him. She reached down to lace her fingers around the length of his tie. She gave a slight upward tug for him to look up at her and meet her eyes. [break][break] “Tseng. You always shoulder the blame. Let me have this one. I should not have doubted you. I had no reason to. Not after all we have been through together.” After all the events that happened, the executives tried to kill them, and with Verdot’s disappearance… Her faith had been shattering in every direction when she should have leaned into the others even more. She had been young and naive, but that was a poor excuse for what happened then. “I am sorry for that. It won’t happen again.” Her voice was low and held sincerity. [break][break] She released her grip on him and flipped her hair over her shoulder as she turned to leave for the kitchenette. Only she was impeded by his touch. She turned to hide the blush on her cheek. “Of course, this way then.” It felt good to have a familiar face so near. [break][break] She led him to the other alcove on the right side of the room. “It’s not much.” She explained, gesturing towards the small space. “But it functions for all my TV dinners.” She knelt to show him the cleaning supplies under the cupboard. She was an awful cook and they both knew it. Living off quick rations most of your life would do that to you. She pointed out the silverware in the drawer and the dishes stacked neatly in the cupboards. “I am not terribly stocked,” she admitted, “But if you want something quick I have some noodles that can be boiled and some soup. A bit of tea too. Maybe it will warm you up. You seemed to have caught a chill with all that shivering.” It had not left her notice.
Tseng gave a small shrug at her question. "Hard to say. I just remember infiltrating a house. I turned around at a noise and was hit by something, then awoke here. I'm sure I had it coming though. I was tracking someone down who would have made a decent Turk, and I guess I was right." No one, not even Tseng, was perfect. He made mistakes as well, and letting his guard down for even a moment had been one of them. He wasn't even sure if he was killed or just knocked out enough to wake up here.
The meteor fall. That had happened just shortly before his end. How had she been here so much longer than that? Time seemed to be irrelevant here, passing as quickly or slowly as it wanted to. That was good to know, so he would be sure to ask anyone he knew from Gaia when they were "pulled" and how long they had been there. "It took quite the amount of people with it, though it could have been much worse." He looked over at her. "My life on Gaia ended shortly after that incident. I didn't even hear you had been swept away in it."
Giving a small chuckle, he nodded. "Yes we do." If they wanted to take these problems head on, it wouldn't hurt to try to find the others, Reno and Rude to start with, followed by Elena and Rufus. Looking down as her hand grabbed his tie, he suddenly felt very warm. At the tug, he looked up at her, intensity in his eyes. She was right, in a way. He had given her no reason to question what he wanted done, but it still wasn't all on her. To make quick of the banter they seemed to be having, he brought a hand to her cheek. "Apology accepted. It's time to move on."
Watching as she turned to walk away, Tseng took a deep breath before following her. Giving a nod when she showed him where something was, he had to give a smile at the stock of food she had. Old habits really did die hard. "Ah, Turk specialties. The quicker you can make it, the better." One thing that had taken him a bit to get used to was eating either extremely hot food quickly, or eating extremely cold food hours later when you finally returned to it. Cold food wasn't bad, but his mouth had been burnt a few times with the hot food.
"I'm not really hungry at the moment, but tea sounds wonderful." He had just eaten before arriving to see her, but Tseng wasn't one to turn down tea. He made his way around the little kitchen area, memorizing where things were quickly. Leaning against one of the counters, he crossed his arms. "It's a cozy space, I'll give you that. Ready to see the rest when you are." Tseng had definitely stayed in worse, and he was well aware she had too. Where they were now was cozy, so he wasn't concerned about the size.
[attr="class","crashBody"] He accepted her apology. Huh. That was easy. And she felt a little relieved. He was right. It was time to move on. She leaned into his hand a little, her lashes lowering to stare into his intense eyes with a hint of a smile. Then she pulled away to walk to the kitchen. Something was different wasn’t it? Or perhaps she was imagining it. She said nothing more, knowing he wanted to end the debate quickly. [break][break] She chuckled at his jest about quick foods being Turk specialities. “Old habits die hard.” She admitted with a shrug. “I also never know when I will have to leave quickly to see a client or witness.” Investigative work wasn’t so different from being a Turk. The only real difference was that it was not for a company but for individuals. [break][break] “Tea it is.” She said, turning to her glass kettle. She removed it from it’s electric heater to fill it with water. Then she set it back on it’s heat pad and set it to boil. She then stretched herself upwards to reach the mugs in the cupboards. “What’s the hurry to see the rest of the place? It’s not so big, you know. Not much to see.” She admitted, but shook her head. She leaned back against the counter as she stared out to the living space. “But it’s the best I could manage with the bias here against non-Zephonians.” She had an easier time fitting in than others that were less modern humans. She also learned infiltration well enough as a Turk, so fitting in was a sort of speciality. Unlike Midgar, she had to tiptoe with the authorities. Shinra tactics were frowned upon here...though only if you got caught. “What do you plan to do in Sonora? See any work out there?”
As he listened to her, he had to chuckle. "You were trained well, so it's no surprise that you're doing well at your current job." He had trained her a little bit, but nothing too serious. They grew up learning the same thing as one another, so it wasn't a surprise when people found out they worked well together. Reno and Rude came into the picture, and they complimented the team as well. The Turks were a tight group, as they should be when the did the things that they did.
Cissnei asked what the hurry was, and Tseng gave a small shrug. "I don't like not knowing where things are, or what kind of people I'm around. I want to be able to know where I'm going without having to take the time to ask for directions, especially if I was in a hurry." Also, he wanted to see the differences there was between Zephon and Gaia, and so far, there was quite the list. Technology being one, from what he could see so far anyways.
"Something small is better than nothing, you should be proud of yourself. You've done well Cissnei." He wasn't her boss anymore, so he really didn't have to be giving her praise. This was more, friend to friend now, but it came just as easily as it did when he was her boss. At first, he thought it was going to be difficult to tranisition between being in charge to being, well, nothing. Maybe it would be nice to be able to blend into the background a little better. Now, he didn't have to worry about his team, though he knew he still would.
When she asked what his plans were, he uncrossed his arms and put his palms on the counter behind him, leaning against them. "Well, I guess I don't really have a plan right now, as odd as that is to say. I'm still figuring things out, so I guess time will tell." Shaking his head, he had to admit there wasn't anything catching his eye. "I've only heard a few things that interested me, but nothing too major. Just some small crimes here and there." People talking about being cheated on, or robberies that had happened. All things that were simple to a Turk.
[attr="class","infoNotes"]Tseng...losing his edge? Hm...
[attr="class","crashLyrics"]A Cold Day In Hell
[attr="class","crashBody"] She raised a brow. “I simply meant what is the hurry seeing the rest of my home.” Though it was clear he was asking about Sonora, so he had misunderstood her. She gave a little shrug. “Sonora is little different from Midgar other than it simply isn’t Midgar. It has modern conveniences, but their power comes from harvested diamond dust.” She raised a brow at him and tilted her head to the side. “How long have you been in Sonora then? You tracked me down well enough.” She shrugged. “This building is full of normal renters. I’ve kicked out the more insidious types with the approval of the owner of this place. You’ll find that Sonorans don’t like people outside of Zephon.” [break][break] She shook her head and the tea whistled. She turned to turn off the heat pad and remove the kettle. “It’s weird, isn’t it? Us not knowing everything, I mean.” She poured the boiling tea into the mugs. She gave a soft huff. “We have to start over again with everything we know. It’s certainly a slow process.” She pulled out some tea bags from a drawer and dropped them in the mugs. She gave him a coy smile. “But to hear you say you don’t have a plan…” She hummed thoughtfully, “You’re losing your edge, Tseng.” She teased and held out his mug to him. [break][break] “Careful getting involved in some of those crimes. Sonora is strict here. If they catch us misbehaving, then we get in a lot of trouble. They have a special place for us in their correction facilities.” Not terribly different from how Shinra dealt with intruders. It was only that the Turks were no longer the one’s tossing people into those facilities. They were simply common citizens here in danger of being thrown in jail.
Finding out he had misread what she was asking, he chuckled a little bit. "There's no hurry, just curious is all. I have all the time in the world now." Currently Tseng had nothing to occupy his time. Harvested diamond dust? That was interesting. To be quite honest, he was glad to hear that. Draining the planet would not have been his first choice for energy, so living somewhere that wasn't slowly dying was a positive change of pace. Of course, he never could voice his opinions on the company he worked for, so he simply did his job and that was that.
"I've been here about two months now. I've been traveling, listening in on conversations and just getting to know places. Oh, I also found Hojo. That was enlightening." There was a slightly amused look on Tseng's face when he mentioned Hojo. His knowledge of the doctor when they were on Gaia was only information he heard and the little he knew from being in the mans lab. Those visits were short as Hojo was the one to patch up the Turks and send them on their way again, no questions asked. So, Tseng didn't mind the man.
Tseng had to smile when she stated she kicked people out of their home, then gave a nod to what she said. "That it is. One would expect us to be relieved, to be able to live a normal life." What people didn't understand, was that they would never be able to. The things they had done, things they had seen. You can't just wipe that with a change of worlds. They were trained most of their lives for the way they lived, and nothing was going to change.
Taking his mug, he gave her a devilsh smirk. "Maybe that's what I want you to think Cissnei." She would know that was a lie, but it was nice to be able to mess around with someone you knew well. At her next statement, he raised his eyebrows at her. "They'd have to catch us first."
[attr="class","infoNotes"]Well, that made her mad.
[attr="class","crashLyrics"]A Cold Day in Hell
[attr="class","crashBody"] “All the time in the world.” She turned to look out into the living area. It felt strange to have any time at all. She supposed after being forced out of Shinra, she had slowly grown used to that. Though it still was too hard to sit idle. “I don’t think it suits you, Tseng. I think you will grow restless with too much time on your hands.” She gave a smirk and lowered her eyes. “And that’s dangerous for a Turk.” Who knew what strange things they could concoct in the mean time. [break][break] “Hojo?” Her eyes widened in surprise. That was not what she expected to find out. She felt her fingers pinch into her shirt sleeves, her crossed arms tightening. She felt a swell of anger rise in her chest. “What do you mean that was enlightening?” There was an edge of bitterness in her voice. Why had Tseng allowed that man to live? He was the root cause of so much suffering. What he did to Veld and his family... What he did to Zack… His own son… To Vincent.... [break][break] It was as if a flaming, dark aura had taken to her brooding. [break][break] She shook her head even further at his words. To be relieved? To live a normal life? Ever since they worked for Shinra that was all taken from them. They could either work for Shinra or die. That threat of death was ever looming as the executives’ moods soured on them. There was no middle ground. At least no until Rufus paved one to fake the deaths of everyone except Reno, Rude, Tseng, and Elena. [break][break] Cissnei was unsure if she could live a normal life at all. Not since she was raised as a child to be a Turk. [break][break] Her mood had soured at the mention of Hojo however. She didn’t feel very playful anymore, as he teased about them needing to be caught. “So you let him live?” Hojo, that was.
Cissnei's response to what he had said had Tseng watching her as he was thinking the same thing. The two had started with Shinra at very young ages, so having this freedom was indeed a strange concept to them. Her voice tore him from his own thoughts and he gave her a wink. "Perhaps this world needs a little danger to it." To be quite honest, there was a chance there had been some excitement around Zephon that had happened before he arrived, or maybe some place he had yet to see. Though, he was sure he had been everywhere.
Tseng wasn't surprised to see Cissnei's reaction to hearing that Hojo was there. He knew he should feel the same way, but he had pushed his feelings aside for so long that they seemed permanently locked away now. What the man did was terrible, but Tseng never had the change to dwell on it. He had shut his feelings down in order to move forward with his Turks and think about the next step. Feeling were something Tseng never really learned to deal with, and his occupation didn't help.
It came to his realization that she had asked him a question as well. "He had to get samples from me, though I wouldn't let him have a tooth. He was the doctor for the Turks back on Gaia, so I thought it would be best it stay that way since he knows the things we do, and will treat us with no questions asked." Mostly due to the fact that Hojo didn't care what the Turks did, but that was besides the point. If he wanted to remain in good health, then this was the sacrifice he would have to make.
Of course, Tseng didn't expect Cissnei to do the same, and she might already have her own physician. Looking her over, he realized that she was squeezing her arms pretty tight. Setting down his mug, he walked over to her and put his hands on her arms. "I know what you're thinking, but we can't dwell on the past Cissnei, especially now. We have to move forward." He knew that wasn't what she wanted to hear, but it was the truth.
[attr="class","infoNotes"]Nope. No convincing her. Hojo must die.
[attr="class","crashLyrics"]A Cold Day In Hell
[attr="class","crashBody"] Her eyebrows rose the more he spoke on Hojo. She was simply stunned silent at first about all the things Tseng said about Hojo. It was true the Turks pushed their feelings to the side for many things. But never once had they let a potential enemy that threatened terror on the masses roam freely without keeping a critical eye on them. Never once had the Turks simply let internal threats to Shinra go unobserved. They even defied Shinra when the executives were tearing each other apart and wanted to the Turks to kill each other. [break][break] She puffed her chest and placed her hands on her hips. Her eyes were hard with that angry fire burning in them. She leaned forward to get a closer look at his dark eyes. He was being serious, wasn’t he? She let out a growl. “Do you HEAR yourself?!” [break][break] Then more incredulously, she said. “You let him take SAMPLES?” She was shaking in her anger. “He is not a DOCTOR, Tseng. He is a Professor. He does RESEARCH. I don’t care what he is charading as now, it's obviously all a front! If you want a DOCTOR, there are plenty of back alley ones here that work just as well. And they are less likely to euthanize you for their own experiments.” [break][break] She gave an angry huff and ran a hand through her copper locks. Her face had that angry annoyed look on her face. “I honestly cannot believe you are telling me to let go of the past with HIM. You disrespect all the First Class SOLDIERs with such a notion! Zack’s death you deny. You drag Aerith through the mud with such words! He mako poisoned Cloud! Worse, you tell me to move on when he’s hurt our Turk family!” [break][break] That was the greatest sin to Cissnei. Cissnei could tolerate a lot of bullshit. But the Turks were her only family and the only people she trusted with all her being. [break][break] “He nearly killed Vincent and then let his wife experiment on him. Vincent laid in a coffin in a BASEMENT for years out of depression from their gaslighting and experiments! Hojo purposely told Verdot his family was dead, then experimented on them! Hojo took Verdot’s daughter from him! He had to risk Shinra execution to get her back when he realized she wasn’t dead!” He missed out on so much of his daughter’s life because of it! [break][break] She shivered, sent Tseng a nasty look, and then turned away. “Hojo’s experiments not only hurt individuals but entire races. The last of the pure-blooded Ancients died trying to escape him. His experiments on splicing alien cells into people nearly caused the end of the world.” [break][break] He placed his hand on her arms and looked down at her. She tore away from him. There was a long, heated paused as she gave a sudden breath in and icily stated. “Don’t you dare tell me to move on from that past. There is no redeeming that man and I will never forgive him.” [break][break] There was another long pause, then “I need space.” She left the kitchen. She felt hot now. She wanted to murder Hojo.
As soon as Cissnei placed her hands on her hips, Tseng knew he was in for it. He didn't blame her one bit, and to be honest, he should be feeling the same way. He had for a while, but realized there was nothing he could do about it. Constantly thinking about did nothing, and neither did staying mad at the person who did it. Did Tseng think Hojo was a great person? Not in the slightest. He didn't care for the person Hojo was, but tolerated him due to the skills he did have and his ability to keep his Turks alive.
Cissnei was shaking, and honestly, Tseng hated seeing her like this. He hated seeing any of his Turks worked up like this. He let her go on though, seeing as that was the only thing he really could do. He stood there with his arms crossed, and let her yell at him. Honestly, it was definitely an interesting experience. None of his Turks had ever yelled at him like this, nor had he ever yelled at them to be honest.
When she brought up the First Class SOLDIERS, he held up a finger. "I have to say, I don't think this Hojo is the same one we knew before we departed Gaia." The thought had occured to him on the way here, but he knew it wouldn't make a difference to her. "He mentioned nothing of Cloud or Zack, or whatever he had called them. I think this Hojo is from some time before they had gone missing. Exactly when he was taken from Gaia is unknown to me." Not that this would help much.
He knew he couldn't change what she was feeling, and he would never want to. "I understand your frustration, but you have to realize that we aren't the best people either Cissnei." They would never be as horrible as Hojo was, but they weren't without faults either. "Have you ever stopped to think about the families of the people we've killed? We do it because we're told to, we don't have a choice. That doesn't make it any better. Hojo is ten times worse, I won't deny that."
Cissnei was then stepping out of the kitchen and Tseng sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose. He knew she was right, boy did he know that. From a young age, Tseng had been told that feelings just get in the way. As someone with no family around, Tseng took that to heart. He watched what happend with Vincent, with Veld. Family and love did that, which Tseng had neither. Yes, his Turks were like his family, but even then, he wouldn't let it show how it effected him if something were to happen to them. He would move on. Some would call that a flaw, and perhaps they were right.
