I'm not an army of one
She was not sure whether to be annoyed or proud of Claire’s response to her counter. She ALSO was not sure how to feel about the warm feeling in her chest that came from the praise given to her. Part of her wanted to squeal with glee with the rarity that had happened in recent years. But being the grown up, and now big sister that she definitely was, she refrained from doing that…. Mostly.
She could not hide the smile that formed on her face, but that wasn’t noticeable right?
”Ahem, that’s right! I did…. and you put them to very good use!”
Her teasing dwarted, she was not sure how else to respond to the praise her sister gave her. She did know her heart felt warm, things like this made the chaos young Claire would inevitably bring to her life all worth it. She underestimated just how much she missed something so simple. Just having fun with her sister, teasing each other and just… smiling. Smiling and laughing like when they were kids.
She squinted her eyes as Claire continued to counter her teasing, well… this was not going well at all was it? She supposed it was just as well, she was simply no good at teasing. Or at least she was nowhere as practiced as Claire and Lumina were. She could have her moments sure, but her sisters were masters.
That and Claire could, and did take full advantage of her younger form as a blade against her now older sister. At first it did in fact have an effect on Serah, her eyes practically marveling at the adorable movement her sister made.
But then she remembered this was her younger sister now, How Claire was before there mother passed. That she was meant to basically be her influence now.
Oh, and that she had gone hunting bombs, with Mog. Now Claire took one approach to this, attempting to reason with Claire. Mog however? Mog knew better and had already gone from a position within range of Serah, to floating right behind Claire, nodding in agreement with what she was saying, he felt naturally, that the best chance ether of them had was to make this look as good as possible to Serah.
”That’s right kupo! The Cabin could have been toasted if Claire and me hadn’t done it kupo!”
Her look was stern, for a moment it might have seemed as if she was wasn’t going to relent on this and put her reputation as ‘meanie miss farron’ to good use. But, in the end her expression did soften into worry for her sister, listening to her explanation once more. She ended with a light smile in fact, even like this Claire did not like being a burden to others. Well, of course she did not she had always been like then, playful or no. In fact, in the end…. Serah ended up glaring at Mog while continuing to talk to Claire.
”Though I have no intention of you getting into a situation like that again… if Mog’s with you NEXT time… he is capable of turning himself into a bow and sword form to fight monsters off…. I’d be very interested to know why he didn’t do so THIS time in fact”
The poor moogle began flailing, shaking his head in defense.
”You don’t understand, we were separated kupo! By the time we were back together Caius had already saved her, heck she was already fangirling over him kupo!”
Serah seemed to by this as she gave another sigh, causing Mog to give one of his own in relief. Turning her attention back to Claire. She was stern, but not at all mad or trying to discipline her. Claire and Mog’s efforts had managed to have the intended effect on Serah. She was just glad they were ok.
”I know I wasn’t around this time but…. Please be careful, I promise, I will be around or in contact from now on, I will be leaving Mog with you when I go with Lumina… and he had best not get separated from you again…. Stay close to her okay Mog?”
At first nervous Mog quickly gave affirmative nod. Goddrss... Serah could be scary when she wanted…
”Of course kupo!”
From there she let Claire explain where they were going to be living now, knowing it would make her feel good to take charge. It did seem Clair was every bit as interested in Caius’ companion as she was. She smiled; it was wonderful to share interests with her sister. Even if it was something so simple and obvious as this.
Besides, Serah giggled as Claire’s mature shell suffered a crack at the sight of Bennu. This made her failure at teasing Claire largely tolerable. Caius and Claire both gave the chocobo attention, Caus’ own getting a particularly good reaction out of Bennu, though it gave Claire an attentive caw as well, nuzzling against her playfully.
Caius did not get that, probably something to do with his gruffness, or the armor, or both.
Claire did shower her with praise again however, a lot of it this time which made Serah blush even as she leaned against Bennu, attempting to look cool to her sister. It was another lesson to bear, time your comebacks right. In any case Serah rubbed the back of her head and gave a shaky laugh, not used to such praise from anyone short of Snow at this point. ”Welll umm… I’ve just had a lot of practice is all, hehe….”
To Caius’ comment Serah nodded. It was true, Bennu liked traveling, but it was not like she could really help these things. If she could she’d let Bennu and the others out all the time. Heck, she would prefer it that way. Unfortunately that just wasn’t possible.
”I let them out as often as I can, but unfortunately the conditions binding them with me are…. Magicial, and it drains my energy the longer I have them out. I make sure to give him and the others time out whenever I can though, we often ride to new places to. The wilds are really something”
She was glad Claire liked Bennu, She wondered if she would enjoy seeing the others to.. well she could see later, for now Bennu would be enough!
Despite being with Bennu a while Serah herself was not a chocobo expert. That was more a Sezh and, she could only assume Chocolina thing. Because of that she still took his advice to heart and planned to make sure she gave Bennu that very treatment. She would also need to make sure she learned what the others preferred as well.
”Thank you, I appreciate the advice. I’ll be sure to keep it in mind In the future”
She really wished she had a phone… or some form of camera to record her sister’s excitement. Not even to tease her, it was just such a wonderful thing to see. Claire, enjoying life.Enjoying the wonders of her chocobo. Claire living life… Claire’s smile… her joy.
It was beautiful.
Claire seemed fine with letting it go, but Caius interjected about the idea of not teaching Claire how to summon the creatures. It was something Serah was trying to avoid because well…. The truth was Claire could not. Only she and Noel could do it this way, do to the Chaos’ effect on them, do to the journey they undertook.
”It’s not so simple… this power is pretty much…. Unique to me and a friend. It does not even work on the creatures here from what I have seen. Truthfully it’s not that I do not want to teacher her…. I can’t. The most I could do is teach her to take care of one of the creatures here herself, which I can do… if she is careful. Though… she seems pretty intent on being a mage… what do you think Claire, want me to teach you to tame one yourself? It will probably take a bit without the power I have but… I’m sure we can.. together”
On the subject of writing, it seemed she’d have to write letters. Wow she had not done that in a while…. Still, it meant Claire got the best magic training she could get, as well as ensured they were close to Lumina. That made it the perfect place to stay, she could make do with a little letter writing for that
”Got it, I’ll make sure to pick up the needed supplies next time were in a market, thanks Caius”
Apparently, Caius’ own partner would needto be seen… it must have really been something then, difficult to describe. She giggled, nodding her head.
”Then I can’t wait for the time we can see for ourselves”
It was wonderful to see Claire’ gifts well received, she was sure it made all the effort worth it for her. Truly this could not have gone better (after the disaster)
”My sister is really talented, I certainly hope your friend will allow it, I can tell, Claire’s going to love making them”
And then came the final jab of the round, one Claire employed casually among the praise she gave her. Serah did a double take in response, yeah that got her deep.
”Hey I am to fashionable! Look at me! Can’t you tell? Stylish AND suited for battle environments!”
She made the statement with a high tone; her now little sister was attacking her fashion sense! She had enough worries about that as is! Maybe if she switched around some of the colors…. No no, she was fine, this was good! She couldn’t believe she was being fashion attacked by the girl who grew up to wear steel armor and leather wherever she went….

The combination of Mog and Claire was a class act, in and of itself. Mog, ever quick to rely on and support his young rival was probably a sight to see. Were it not for the dangerous circumstances that were narrowly avoided. Though, the real danger was Mog's mouth! Claire jumped the moment Mog mentioned fangirling. Afterwards she was turning red, bangs briefly covering her eyes. If she made a retort now, it'd be a weakness, which meant she needed to strategically divert attention. "Mog and I will stick together, promise. We make a good team...when he's not selling me out." so the strategy of diversion was just to...throw some heat Mog's way. Truly a Farron family tradition at this point.
"Even if you did use magic, a unique one if I'm understanding right; it's still impressive. I was interested in chocobos back home, so I know how difficult they can be to tame. Having Serah around, as well as an expert rancher is for the best. If we're going to be living here, then getting to know the local monsters is wise. Being able to tame them, without magic, even better. A mage can't always rely on magic after all." sure, Claire understood well enough but she was more than happy to have Serah with her just to spend time together.
Her little big sister's earnest reactions to the praise was not missed. Claire could tell she had worked hard and thus, had the expertise. If there was something Serah didn't know, then they could learn together with a third party opinion. Though perhaps she took this so well because of the affection Bennu showed. Returning the nuzzling from time to time as Serah and Caius spoke, the younger Farron was at peak happiness.
Thoughts of Vordun didn't seem to prompt much out of Claire, not in this state of fluffy bliss. Instead, Caius reaction to her gift was the thing she looked out for. His response was absolutely worth the wait, as well as the time she put into them. It made her laugh at the idea of his partner's remarks. "Humour not only helps to take the edge off, it helps people to bond too. I think Celes will approve." there was a steady confidence, one that wasn't boastful unlike Claire's other efforts.
Likely, it'd go amiss as her playful jab at Serah had yielded fruit. "Stylish...I guess. Suited for battle environments...questionable. Might be better for more active dates with your f-i-a-n-c-e, at least." in fact, Claire could believe her wearing such an outfit for Snow more so. Though she'd wave her hand casually to dismiss the thought, recollecting something that was noted to her. "So, Mog can transform into a Sword; as well as a bow. That fits the hunting aspect, which would pair well with the knife. You being a swordswoman, is a bit of a surprise though. Will you be okay without Mog?"

The Dragonglaive
The sisters were quite close, he could see that pretty clearly. He was almost envious of that bond. A bond between siblings... It was strangely surreal seeing it in action, and it left a bittersweet taste in his mouth. He was happy for them, and yet... It hurt too. But he knew he couldn't let it frame his actions or thoughts forever, too. As much as it hurt, he knew deep down that there were many, many things in Zephon that were going to remind him of what he had lost.
Though he didn't envy Claire for the scolding she was getting, that's for sure.
He didn't know what this "fangirling" word meant, so it whizzed past his head like a hundred other social cues had. For whatever reason though, Claire was beat red and quickly diverted the subject. Caius blinked a few times, but had no means of answer to any of that. So divert did it be. All the blonde could do was focus on the chocobo, as this was clearly a private affair it was best he stay out of. But it was friendly, and that got the faintest of smiles out of the quiet young man as he searched for the chocobo's sweet spot to scratch. Every chocobo had one, it was just a matter of finding it.
Serah reacted well to his advice though, and thought to keep it in mind. At least she was open to it. Arrogance was a pitfall that a lot of chocobo owners fell into. She had leaped over that and then some. Meanwhile, Caius had begun to think about this power of hers, as she described it and how exclusive it was. And how it made it difficult to keep the chocobo out for long. "Hmm... It might be worth experimenting with your powers. Being able to temporarily un-leash them so they can spend some time just being a regular chocobo would be an asset to their physical and mental well-being. And that would also make them better on the field as well."
With the scenario moving forward to when Caius had been presented the gift, Caius snorted when Claire implied Celes would approve of something meant for humor. He couldn't help the smirk that hit the corner of his expression when he tried to imagine Celes wearing one of those shirts. "I don't know about that. You would need to meet Celes I think, to understand how much of a 50/50 this is going to be."
Claire mentioned Serah's fiance. Ah, this one was engaged, then? While Caius was still... Figuring out this sort of thing, he at least knew the base, textbook meaning. Even if not much else. "Has her fiance joined you here as well, then?" he inquired curiously. It would give him some peace of mind knowing these two would be just that little bit safer once he had taken his leave.

I'm not an army of one
Indeed, it had become a Farron habit to divert attention to Mog when needed. The poor fluffball had ended up getting quite a bit lately as a result, not counting the situations he got HIMSELF into! That being said, the moogle took OFFENSE to the thought that he’d sell out his rival, why he’d never! Honesty was a virtue after all, that was all! Even if that honesty conveniently popped up during his desperate attempts to escape Serah’s wrath.
”I’d never kupo! I’m simply…. Helping train my rival! You have to be more smooth kupo, or you’ll never avoid Serah’s rage!”
The moogle nodded, confident he had managed to spin… clarify! Yes clarify, his position, and nothing else. Serah on the other hand chose to stick to Claire’s promise they would stick together, as she was quite used to her partners antics by now. Still despite the delinquent duo she was creating by keeping them together, she did trust Mog to keep Claire safe, she knew he would do his utmost to do so, both for her and because he cared about Claire to, as a friend and rival. Serah rubbed her forehead with a sigh at their antics with each other but smiled. They made a good team; she was happy for that.
”Thank you Claire, Sell out he may be, Mog is very reliable, you’ll be safe with him to help you, I know it, well that and your oh so fearsome magic right?”
She chuckled as Mog puffed out his chest, ruffling her sister’s hair a bit on instinct, she just couldn’t help herself. It was something that had been done to her several times when she was younger by Claire. On another note, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to her, but Claire seemed quite interested indeed in learning to tame the various creatures of this world, even if it was without the magical method Serah herself used. Well, that was just perfect, they’d work on it then, together. Serah had some experience thanks to her power already, and she’d learn more as she guided her sister.
”That settles that then, we’ll work on it in our free time”
Serah was happy to see how much Claire seemed to enjoy Bennu’s company, the same seemed to be true of Bennu as well, it seemed they would have no troubles getting along. She was sure Claire would be able to bond with the other creatures of this world to once they got started. She definitely was thinking to start wi
th chocobo’s. it was likely what her sister would prefer, and she already had some experience thanks to Bennu! She was glad Caius liked her sister’s work, and hoped this Celes approved of it as well, she knew that would mean a lot to her sister. Her confidence was wonderful to see, her sister tended to have it of course, but she knew she had been worried about how this in particular would go…. Something that wasn’t helped by her earlier actions. Though this guilt/happiness of Serah’s would soon give way to the battle over her sense of style. She would NOT be taking this from the girl who grew up to run around in different variants of plate mail!
”I’ll have you know, sis, that I fought all across time in this garb! It was flexible, breathable and only sometimes had to be fixed up, besides I’m pretty sure I’M the one with more battle experience now sis!”
Then things descended quite a bit, to the attire being fitting for time with Snow, rather than combative situations. This caused the older Farron sister to turn beat red as she shook her head and crossing her arms. Mostly because she wasn’t wrong, Snow had liked her outfit when they met back up during her journey with Noel.
”I’ll have you now Claire, what I wear for Snow privately is our concern! And it’s not this!”
She was thankful for the distraction Caius gave, even giving a light sigh of relief. He did have a point, she could try to train her power that way, it could benefit her other two allies as well. One was more… robot like but… same difference right?
”That’s a good point… I haven’t had much chance for it before now, but its definitely something to keep in mind, I’d hate for them to be unhappy, they’ve done a lot for me”, thanks, Caius”
The trio of monsters were the most steadfast allies she had with her other than Noel across there journey. Of course, they deserved to have their own happiness and good times. It was absolutely something she was going to be working on when she had the free time.
Unfortunately for both Caius and Serah, he brought up the prior subject in pretty much the worst way he could, not that that was his fault for doing so. Still Serah’s reaction would likely very quickly form a response as she frowned, rubbing her arm and giving a weak chuckle. If it didn’t the weak tone she took when she did answer would make it all the clearer.
”Ummm… No sadly he has… not come to this world yet, least… I haven’t seen him”
She hadn’t wanted to focus on that, but there it was in her mind again, along with eh other possibiliites that could happen to, possibilities she learned from meeting Fang back then.
Possibilities she wasn’t at all a fan of.
Needless to say, she was thankful that her sister once again changed the subject with her own question, confirming some things with her about Mog, Serah nodded, doing her best to get back into things as she chuckled shaking her head.
”While I have a lot of experience with Mog at this point, I’m much better at magic than I am with Mog’s weapon form, because of that I’m certain I’ll be able to defend myself just fine while he’s with you!”
To prove her point Serah formed a Ruinga spell in the palm of her hand, letting it float there a moment before dispersing it.
”Besides as you pointed out, I have my knife to, so don’t worry ok? You need Mog’s help a lot more than I do. Specilly.....”
Serah sighed, shaking her head as her faced paled a bit.
”With how adventurous I know you two will be, Mog’s reliable as both an weapon and a friend, so don’t you worry”
Taking this chance to Chime in, and to try and brighten up the atmosphere Mog flew up above the trio, giving a playful spin as he called out with cheer.
”That’s right kupo! I am the greatest partner in the realms kupo!”

"...Is that right?" Claire mused in response to Mog stating she needed to be smooth. Admittedly, she'd learn from her rival and ally in this instance. "The fiercest, I might add." Claire would say in response to Serah's provocation, keeping it smooth and casual. Although she smiled bashfully when her hair was ruffled all the same. It was different and briefly reminded her of their Mom and to a lesser extent, their Dad. With their Mother in the hospital so much prior to her arrival here, she missed having an 'adult' around. On the other hand, she also enjoyed that Serah still had aspects of her younger self within her. Things she could poke at and enjoy, especially in tag team with Mog!
Even with her preoccupation with the lovely chocobo, she still was able to get off one such shot. Serah's response in kind was especially worth it. "Is that right~?" Claire found herself saying for the second time as the topic had shifted, this time off herself. Caius managed to save Serah, though it was clear by Claire's expression that she was amused and displaying a younger Lightning in a sense. Though it lacked much of the edge Lightning would give, replaced with the kindness and mischievous Serah remembered from before the transition from big sister to Guardian.
Claire opted to observe how Caius handled Beanu, noting where he touched and his handling. Since Serah agreed they'd take the time to learn certain responsibilities, she would do her part. Only coming away when she noticed Serah's reaction to Caius' innocent inquiry. There was her younger sister, a moment she was quite familiar with and so she moved over to Serah and gently pat the arm Serah rubbed. "I have a feeling he'll make a dramatic entrance when the time is right. Since I feel like we've been called to Zephon for a reason, to play a role of sorts."
Claire didn't need to say much else on that topic, Snow would show up eventually. What was important, was what the Farron sisters did in the meanwhile. Such as being able to protect themselves and each other. Serah reassured her that she'd be fine without Mog and Claire believed her. No resistance, no witty retorts, just an earnest nod. Soon, she'd turn her attention looking upwards to Mog knowingly. A smirk as if she'd been caught in one of her pranks evident on her face due to the 'adventures' remark. "Excellent, I'm counting on you, Mog. With my guidance, you'll be more... 'stealthy' than before." in other words, Claire would be up to good during her Torrensten tenure or 'Saga' if you will.
"So then if Celes is 50/50, how exactly do you two work together? Any tips you can share, just in case, Mr. Caius?" Claire had the feeling she might run into Celes eventually, things happened for a reason; as if strings of destiny were moving them towards their destination. It was something she wasn't fond of in most instances but she'd leverage it when it was favourable.

The Dragonblades
Serah was willing to give it a shot, so he hoped that would work out well for them. There wasn't much he could say in relation to the back and forth between the sisters. Much of this was a matter between the two of them, and he didn't intend to intrude unless spoken to directly. Though he did look over Serah's garb a moment when she indicated she had fought many battles with it. Weapons and armor were an interest of his, so it piqued his curiosity. But it didn't look like she wore any armor. Interesting. Judging by her previous talk of summoning monsters like Bennu, perhaps she was more magically inclined and worked better with something that provided mobility? It had been Celes' explanation when Caius had inquired about her own attire. Mobility benefited a mage, though she would need to bundle up in the cold. Granted, Caius needed to be careful in the heat as well with his own attire. Every piece of gear had its strengths and weaknesses.
"I assume your garb is meant to bolster mobility for magic use?" he inquired curiously. "You could probably line some small pieces of armor onto spots like your elbows and forearms, or your knees, if the opportunity arises. Just enough to protect you without weighing you down" he suggested offhand. "My magic-using regular battle partner -- Celes, she outfits her wrist and shoulders, by what I can tell. Possibly boots, I haven't really checked that closely. But small strategic pieces can be good for blocking."
To Serah's clear disappointment, her fiance wasn't present. He tried to comfort her with a gentle smile, best he could. He had thought to put a hand on her shoulder or something like people did in the books, but his social anxieties got the better of him so a smile would have to do. He still wasn't very good at touch. "Don't give up hope. I've seen many reunited with their loved ones in my time here. It may simply be a matter of time."
It was also possible that he would never appear. And she would eventually have to move on or live a lonelier existence. But he hoped it wouldn't come to that. Claire asked how they worked together, and he chuckled a bit. "Quite well, believe it or not. Our dispositions towards business and the battlefield are similar, and compliment well. How we handle things personally though... Is a bit different. She can be a bit more stern and serious than I am. They don't call her General Chere for nothing" he remarked, laughing at the thought. "Just don't take initial stoicity personal and don't get too intimidated. She's a good soul inside. Might not be as big a fan of the shirts as I am, but I'll try to sell her on them."

I'm not an army of one
Serah couldn't help but giggle at Claire’s clarification. The fiercest to huh? My Claire was just a different kind of determined like this wasn’t she? Still, it was adorable to see if she was being honest. Perhaps she was repeating it to herself too much, dwelling on it too much, but it was nice to see her sister able to live like this, to live a life for herself. She really didn’t mind it, no if anything she wanted to encourage it. If there was anyone in the world that deserved the chance to live her life without all the pain, all the stress, all expectations…. All the struggles that had been thrust upon them…. It was her sister. It was Lighting, Claire Farron. She just wanted her to be safe, and that was why she wanted Mog to stay with her. Serah was going to do all she could for her sister, be there for her whenever she could. But she knew she couldn't be there every second of every day, Mog could be however, just as she had been with Serah herself for so long through her journey.
….Even if they looked considerably more like the trouble makers at school in this scenario. Serah smiled at the thought regardless, shaking her head.
”And the most adorable to boot I'll say! I am sure, none shall dominate you”
That being said, she did dread the team the duo would become, not in combat, but in a united front against her. Jeez…. Why couldn't Snow or at least Lebreau have landed here so she had SOMEONE on her side? This was only shown to a greater extent with Claire’s continued poking at her about her garb, with Mog not only not coming to her aid But actually crossing his little nub arms and nodding his head in agreement at a (safe) distance behind Claire To which Serah would in fact briefly;y lose her composure again, that mature big sister role she was trying to maintain shattered again like so much dust in the wind. There was indeed a light puffing of cheeks and crossing of her own arms.
Yes, it probably would remind Claire even more of Serah’s childhood. This.. this was just like when they were younger! Agghh she was always like this then!
”Yes it is! This has survived against Slimes, rampaging Chocobos, This one really, REALLY big monster I… can’t remember it’s name actually, AH and an EVIL DRAGON CLAIRE!”
Serah immediately realized how into this she had gotten herself, as well that it was likely exactly what her sister was baiting her into, and coughed. She tried to pick up the shattered pieces of image of maturity as she dusted herself off and put her hands on her hips.
”Ahem like I said… It’s very durable”
……She had just done that in front of Caius to hadn’t she? Who… had a whole group he worked with… and likely communicated with a lot. This…. This was to embarrassing!
Still…. What came all this was that familiar smile from back then too. Maybe it.. Wasn't it so bad?
…Though her reputation wasn’t likely to recover anytime soon.
Both her sister and new acquaintance offered her comfort when it came to her dismay regarding Snow, Caius’ smile reminded her of Gadot, if she was being honest. Really they both had that same feel if she was being honest, it was nice. A matter of time huh? Maybe he was right. Snow had a habit of charging in at the most heroic opportunity after all, just when people need him most… he was a hero, after all. Her hero.
”You think so Caius…? Well… if you’ve seen it so often, maybe you're right… maybe it’s just a matter of time, knowing him, he’ll show up just when he’s needed… he loves his heroic appearances you know”
She gave a light chuckle, remembering her finance’s actions fondly. Claire of course had her own words on the matter. They were brought here to fulfill a role hun? So, what, were they the pawns of some god again? She hoped not… or at least, if they were she hoped it was a good one for once.
Wasn’t that wishful thinking?
Still if that was the case… why was Claire brought in this form? What use was Claire in this form to whatever had brought them here? These thoughts plagued her for a moment as her thoughts tried to figure these things out in her mind.
Maybe so… she wouldn't rebel? Light was littelry the ultimate rebel in the end after all…
Serah noticeably sighed, shaking her head. No, it didn’t matter WHY Claire was summoned here, she would not let her be used this time, no this time she would make sure she was happy. The older sister put a hand on her sister's shoulder and smiled, nodding her head.
”Your right Claire…. Thank you, I’m sure I’ll see him again”
She had to, so many things had kept them apart… but they always found their way back to each other.
Claire gave her no push back on keeping Mog, and she was thankful for that, she needed an easy path for a bit after going through those thoughts
Mog for his part, was having a considerably easier time of things, though he did feel for Serah of course. When Claire nodded his way he did back in turn, giving a twirl. He very much got the intent of what she was getting at, they were going to have a lot of fun together he was sure.
”Excellent kupo! We will make a powerful duo, my rival! We’ll… learn a lot from each other kupo”
Oh yeah Claire wasn’t the only one choosing her words sneakily, no sir.
The way Caius talked about his relationship with Celes though, reminded her of NORA, A team, working together as one… even if they didn’t always agree with each other they always worked as one to get the job done. It was a nice thought… maybe she was thinking of a lot of organizations, but for her… it just screamed NORA, it was there bread and butter.
Well that and rebelling against whatever jerk was in power.
…..maybe there were a few differences.
”She reminds me of…..”
Serah paused a moment, looking towards her sister, then coughed a moment before quickly muttering.
”Older sister”
Claire would get the knock she was making, that's why she said it quickly.
”You know… I think I’d like to meet her to though, when i get the chance, she sounds nice, and I’m used to super strict people~”

Thinking of you, wherever you are I've returned from memories past, reborn anew
⚡
Serah was right but realized it too little, too late. Claire had effectively baited her with the outfit talk. The 'clue' was that Claire had looked to Mog, as if to confirm "Evil Dragon, huh? Neat" with nigh a word. Truly, the start of a frightening duo in Zephon. In a short matter of time, Claire and Mog were already choosing their words sneakily. Assessing things around them and in time, could stake out quite the prank heist. For the time being though, it was rather innocent, dare say endearing.
"Oh, she just has to wear it once and then it'll click." Claire added, quite confidently before looking to Serah who made an interesting remark. With a raised right brow, Claire somewhat caught on but her response came across as such; "That bad...huh?" Claire pondered for a moment but given the reassurance of Celes being a good soul, she had to nod in agreement with Serah. Meeting her seemed like it'd be quite the experience.
"Speaking of outfits, this might be my chance to wear a proper Mage's robe. Maybe with a small pauldron, wrist guards seem important too. I can wear the shirt underneath." Claire despite voicing her ideas aloud, seemed to be caught up in her own fashion world. The idea seemed to have manifested fine in her mind's eye, given the nod of understanding she gave for a moment.
"I almost forgot." Claire spoke up, shifting out of her trance as she turned her attention to Caius. "How does one sign up with your group, exactly? Do you guys do recruitment drives? How about proficiency tests?" the fact she forgot to ask such basic questions was more a testament to her prior worries. Under no worry for Serah, who was right there now; she could focus on a wide variety of things.
"I'd probably have to wait awhile, I need to study and work on strategies with Mog but it's not like Serah here will always be busy teaching, right?" a notable point and then she added something related to a certain 'hero' discussed previously. "It might be better to have a seasoned group find more of us, in case they arrive in unfavourable conditions. I don't mean dangerous ones, just ones where brawn isn't going to cut it. I could see my big little sis needing to save her hero from those kinds of situations, for example."

The Dragonblades
A soft smile crossed the mercenary's features. "With you in tow along with them Serah, I think there's enough adorable to conquer a city" Caius chimed in, teasing Serah just a little bit. This whole thing was adorable, really. The whole lot of them. But at least she had someone on her side when it came to her clothes. Even if he wasn't exactly Snow and couldn't serve as the co-parent type figure she was looking for in this scenario. She named a few things that it had managed to survive against, including... An evil dragon Claire? Caius had... No idea what was going on, if he was being honest. Though he could vaguely harken back to memories of his own childhood in order to recognize the silliness that was in front of him. He had a similar dynamic with his brother and sister at one point, hadn't he?
"CAIUS, PLEASE MAKE IT STOP! MAKE IT STOP, IT HURTS, CAIUS PLEASE!"
A daemonified little girl stood before him, screaming in agonizing pain as neither Caius or Celes could do anything to stop it. An older mage with a sharkish grin had held out a hand to control his puppet, and instead of using them to hurt Caius as he had with his older sibling, the man had instead hurt the daemonified puppet.
"It's okay, Emily, it's alright, I'm here..." Caius would speak as he tried to find some way to comfort her, desperate to make this end but knowing he couldn't do anything made him feel all the more helpless. "It's going to be okay, Em, you're going to be..."
She had literally exploded. He'd had to watch her die again. In front of his very eyes. He could only recall the gruesome sight as the mad mage had gruesomely killed the spirit he had possessed and returned to life for the sake of enacting a twisted revenge. It was the only thing that came back to him when he tried to recall those early, happy memories. He could feel them somewhere in his mind. But all he could see was the pain that came from even thinking about his family.
He took a deep breath then, doing his best to shake it off and not worry the sisters. The two of them, despite their being brought here and separated from their families, they had each other. They were happy. He didn't want to burden them with his own problems. They were his to bear.
Well, ahem. The point was he at least understood that the sisters were just being silly. He could vaguely recall the dynamic enough to recognize it, even if he couldn't point to anything specific. Still, it was another reminder of just how alone he felt. Sure, he had found friends here. Found the Dragonblades. But he still couldn't help but feel out of place and alone. Something was missing, and he didn't know how to phrase just what it was.
He didn't seem to mind that Serah had shed her skin of maturity at least. He'd simply smiled, hiding all of the pain behind it.
"Whether he comes or not, I hope you and your sister can find the happiness you deserve. It sounds like you've both been through a lot. You'll have to tell me about it sometime. If you're in Torensten, I'll treat you both to dinner and you can tell me all the stories you like if you're interested."
When it came to Claire's question about signing on with the Dragonblades, Caius scratched his head as he looked to Serah in case she might be able to offer any support. To be honest, he wasn't sure about her joining. It was true that they had taken in kids before. Celes had been very insistent about bringing one in, claiming they could hold their own just fine and getting irritable at Caius for putting on pressure regarding the guild's responsibilities. But their work was still dangerous. He didn't know if he wanted to see Claire get caught up in that. It wasn't an easy life, to say the least.
"We usually have flyers and things, and we test prospects who come to visit the Wyvern's Rest" Caius explained to Claire. "But the work we do is hard and extremely dangerous. I definitely think you should focus on your studies at the university. If you're still interested in the Dragonblades down the line, we can talk about it. But to be honest with you, I don't want you risking your life. At the very least, not until you're ready."
In the end, he decided to be honest about it. There was no point in hiding the fact he didn't want to be responsible for something happening to Claire. Or for anything to happen to Claire period.
"On the topic of responsibilities though, I should probably get going soon. As much as I've enjoyed getting to see Claire, and meeting you, Miss Serah, I need to finish my preparations to return to Torensten now that the danger appears to have passed. I've promised my co-leader a lengthy vacation so I need to go and cover for her. She's more than earned it."

I'm not an army of one
A blush of embarrassment came with Caius’ compliment, declaring she to was adorable.
Jeez, she knew he didn’t mean it any deeper than that, but… boy was he lucky Snow WASN’T around! Still since it was just her the older Farron just got that embersiemtn from her as she rubbed the back of her head.
”O…oh thanks Caius”
Endearing indeed, and devilish, still Claire HAD promised… if nothing else her sister was a girl of her word. She suspected she would find SOME way to make her regret her wording but.. She really didn’t want to think on it further on it right now, or rather she dreaded to do so. Mog though? He had looked back with as much a smirk as that pudgy little moogle face could manage.
What had she created here? She was regretting her actions already! But… at least… Claire would be safe right? That was the most important thing… whatever chaos may follow… Though she was able to take a measure of childish satisfaction in that Claire recognised what she meant with her poking. Oh yes, very much that bad Claire, wait till she learned about how aggressive her older form had been about her dates! Really, that things were on the other foot was just some much needed karma!
The subject didn’t stay there for long though, as Claire turned inward, to her inner self.. Inner… fashion self that is. Serah sighed as a result. Claire could make things nicely but.. They might just have to set a budget before Claire ether broke them on fashionable clothes, or the materials to MAKE said fashionable clothes. Still.. A proper mages robe would be something she’d need with her plans to go down this path. If one wanted to be known as a mage it made sense to be presentable as one.
”We’ll get the stuff for it when we arrive, a full garb would od you good i think”
It wasn’t like her older clothing fit her anymore. Even if it did she had the feeling her sister would be quite opposed to that attire right now. She had very much gone from a raging Valkyrie to fastinisa mage after all, those were two completely different pallets. She would need more variety. A bigger focus was when Claire asked about recruitment first, earning herself another look from Serah, who put her hands on her hips. This was what Caius would see upon looking her way as well, though they hadn’t spoken to each other on it, they were pretty much in agreement on whether Claire should join right now in practice.
”Claire, I hope you know your not going off on super dangerous expeditions, you have school, and there's a lot of dangerous monsters out there that i’m sure are involved in mercenary work! Caius is right, it’s to dangerous for you right now, and your studies are more important”
Boy was that the pot calling the kettle black? But it seemed she had jumped the gun though, as Claire was fully aware of needing to attend to her studies, as well as work on being able to utilize Mog’s abilities herself. She was confident they would work together well though, they just needed to get there teamwork down. She knew how reliable Mog could be when he needed to be, so she had no worry in that field.
Didn’t mean she was in a hurry for Claire to get in more dangerous situations right now though.
And then Claire’s true focus became clear when she brought up HER schedule, and how she wouldn't be busy with her teaching all the time.
”Now wait just a minute what are you getting at sis?”
Worse was that Claire’s reasoning was sound. Geez, It made sense, but it was hard to dea lwith the ‘Lighting’ qualities. Well it was Claire so she always had them, they just became more and more focused as she got older. Even now they shined through, she couldn't deny it.
”That… does make sense, it goes both ways, Snow can handle himself almost anywhere but… err.. Planning isn’t ALWAYS his strong suit”
As if feeling the need to defend her man despite herself being the one that said that she added on.
”Oh but he’s GREAT in other fields, like a true hero should! There are a few others I'm worried about coming to though… It… probably is best, I suppose it’s something i can look into when i’m free, if Caius doesn’t mind of course”
It was kind of ironic though, it was almost a complete switch of the rolls she and Claire had before, it was kind of wild to think about. If Serah could have noticed the pain the man felt, she’d have surely tried to comfort him with it. Unfortunately the man was good at hiding that pain, and thus Serah was left none the wiser for now. Instead what she gave him was a bright smile. Both at his offer and the care he showed towards them.
”I’d like that Caius, there's a lot to tell honestly… i’m sure we’ll have more to tell by the time we take you up on that meal”
She looked to Claire at that, the look on her face practically saying that she knew she was going to find some way to make her life chaotic soon. Mog felt it too, but confident in his safe place behind Claire gave a knowing chuckle and spin. Oh he knew there was going to be a LOT to tell going forward.
Serah’s deminere shifted when Caius brought up needing to return however, clasping her hands together, with her expression and tone turning apologetic.
”Ah! I’m sorry for keeping you Caius. And thank you again for helping my sister. Don’t let us keep you here any longer. I’m sure we'll see each other again sometime. Oh and i hope your partner has a wonderful vacation!”
Oh if only she knew how that partner was…..
If Caius did leave at that point Serah would wave him by as he did so, no doubt joined by her sister in that regard. Once he was out of sight she would turn to her younger sister with a small.
”Well then, we should finish getting ready ourselves shouldn't we?”
Thus would begin the journey to their new home, to Serah’s new job and Claire’s new school.
