The Dragonglaive
It had been some time, and it was about time he was on his way back to Torensten for the time being. Provo was safe, and the civilians would recover in time now that things had been properly salvaged. In two days time, he and Celes would be wrapping up and heading back to headquarters. But there was one loose end he knew he needed to take care of before he left. Sure, he could come back anytime, but he didn't feel right just leaving without saying goodbye. And that was to a new friend he'd made, the teenager living in a cabin on the outskirts of town. He figured he should at least let her know that he wouldn't be stopping by again for a little while, though he'd be back eventually. So he ensured that he made time to see if she around.
Of course, he hadn't come empty-handed. Claire had indicated she hadn't really been to town much, if at all, considering how little she knew about Zephon. So he thought he'd bring her a souvenir, something to brighten up her spirits before he left for the time being. He hoped that her sister had come back since the last time he'd seen her, and that she was alright. Claire didn't seem to know where Serah was at the time, which had been part of why Caius had continuously returned to the cabin to check on her here and there during his tenure in Provo. Sure, Claire was good company. But knowing the kid was alright gave him some peace of mind too.
Not seeing her outside, he was curious if she had since ventured outside of the area and left the cabin behind. She had seemed the adventurous type. Still, it was worth a try. Caius cleared his throat as he knocked on the door.

I'm not an army of one
Though Claire was not currently home she was not far off, in fact she was close enough that Mog, who had been traveling with her for safety flew a bit ahead to check on the cabin, make sure no intruders were about that could put Claire in danger. This had resulted in in the moogle now sitting to the side of the cabin from where Caius was currently knocking. In his mouth he had a corn cob pipe decorated with a clock on the end. His head was leaned down in an ominous (for a moogle) fashion. For a small time, he simply sat there, at least until a rumbling began to be heard from the cabin. At this point Mog, who with his keen observation skills had determined that this was not in fact the Caius Serah so loathed leaned up and, blowing a bit of smoke from his pipe gave Caius a ‘cool and calculated’ warning….
”You might want to move kupo”
This was all the moogle would say on the matter, the only other warning Caius would receive on the matter being the rather loud sound of energy gathering on the other side of the door. After that? Well…
A volley of magic arrows would pierce through the door, flying wildly forward, though if Caius had heeded the ‘wise’ moogle’s advice he would of course be no worse for wear. Though this would not be the last of the troubles the Dragonblade leader would face. No having noticed that her arrows had not actually impacted anything other than the door a pinkette would come out with a flying kick, right towards Caius depending on where he was at the time! Whether she had impacted anything or not the woman would proceed to pump her fist in the air in victory, a wide smile on her face.
”Yeah take that Caius you purple haired jerk! That’ll teach you to mess around with my sister!”
This celebration would continue until she caught sight of the person, she had attempted attack. She would stare at the man in confusion, scratching the back of her head in thought. When had Caius been blonde? She was fairly sure he had a weird lack of facial hair to. This man though had both. Unprompted she proceeded to walk around him, looking him over. This was so weird. It wasn’t a disguise clearly, and if it wasn’t a disguise…
Oh god, she had attacked an innocent person!
She quickly offered a hand to Caius if he had fallen, mannerisms having become worried and nervous about what she had done.
”I am so sorry! I thought you were… someone else, dam… I wish Claire said what you looked like…. No, that’s no excuse, this is my mistake. I just hope I didn’t hurt you, It’s a good thing I’m not that strong I suppose…”
Mhm, keep telling yourself that Serah.
Once she was able to calm herself down Serah sighed, crossing her arms.
”Well now I just feel bad… I have been planning that ambush since she mentioned you. Well, since your clearly NOT the immortal jerk I was thinking of I should thank you for helping my sister before I was able to get home. It means a lot”
There was no telling what might have happened if Claire had only had Mog to protect her, specially with her sister now lacking any training in weaponry. Now that she knew it wasn’t just Caius Ballad using her she was very grateful for the man’s assistance.
”If your looking for Claire she should be here in just a second, Mog here was with her and AHEM…. Should still be with her…”
The glare from Serah caused the moogle to sweat, waving its’s stubby hands franticly.
”Kupo! She was right behind me, she’s rounding the corner now kupo!”
All his excuse got him was a continued glare from Serah, causing him to fly off back to wherever Claire was, even if it was walking into the area herself.
The older Farron sighed once more, shaking her head.
”Again, I apologize for attacking you Caius…. wow that feels weird to say”

Thinking of you, wherever you are I've returned from memories past, reborn anew
⚡
Whilst Serah had long been planning her ambush of the dreaded Caius Ballad, Claire was planning her gesture of gratitude for Caius Dragelion. Ever since her many sessions learning advanced cooking principals, Claire had been preparing a small thank you basket. The plan for today was simple on the surface, with a bit of misdirection from Claire. The Farron sisters would finally move the last of their stuff into the house Lumina had provided. Serah had gone ahead to get the last of their stuff and Claire would meet her there. Except, Claire planned a small detour. She wanted to drop by the Dragonblades and give the thank you basket to Caius, independently of Serah.
Why? Claire just had a feeling that Serah didn't like Caius much. Uncertain as to why, she didn't want to go down that proverbial rabbit hole. It's why she split her time between staying at the Cabin, then spending her nights back home in Provo proper. At the cabin, she could meet with Caius, away from Serah's watchful eyes. Perhaps it was too presumptive to think of Caius as a friend, yet for Claire; he was her friend. The first friend she'd made in this new world, in Zephon.
Mog was her company for the venture, mostly being a guardian/defacto babysitter. Claire didn't mind, as the moogle was great company. A real partner in crime, even if he considered Claire his rival. It seemed that spirit of rivalry was rekindled slightly, after Claire defeated Mog in Rock, Paper, Scissors for what she believed was her first time. From time to time, she'd challenge Mog to other games, teaching him some fun ones from her childhood. Today, he seemed in high spirits and thus, opted to go on ahead to make sure the cabin was safe. Honestly, it seemed like routine at this point, so Claire let him be. She was pretty confident in her use of the Thunder spell now, no pesky Bombs would deter her!
So she walked, basket in hand, looking rather graceful. She was wearing a white long sleeve robe, akin to the design sported by white mages. Though it was spiced up a bit, the Claire touch(tm)! Beneath the robe, she had a simple black shirt, with the text Outlander Club, nicely embroidered by yours truly. The silver mini skirt was accompanied by a greenish white thigh high stockings, with black ankle boots. Her gentle footsteps prefaced her climb leading to the cabin. What she witnessed, caused her to gasp before rushing over to Caius.
"S-serah!? I don't remember teaching you to attack innocent people!" she cried out, having seen the cabin door wide open, some trees leaving tell tale marks of arrows, with an apologetic little BIG sister. "I'm sorry about this, Mr. Caius. Now I'm going to have to make you an apology basket as well..." she sighed, head downcast before offering the basket via the handle in her hands. Inside was various snacks, cookies mostly, among other sweets. However, what was really special, was the neatly folded shirt at the bottom of the treats.

The Dragonglaive
”You might want to move kupo”
Caius heard the voice and stopped, but blinked a few times. Who was warning him, and why? He didn't have much chance to consider, as he heard something going on behind the door. Caius only had enough time to get the glaive shield up before a volley of arrows began shooting at him, one by one. What Caius hadn't expected though, was for the arrows to be laced with magic, and eventually they forced him to drop the shield. But this still left a bunch of arrows flying at his head. And not a whole lot of options considering how close they were. Caius wasn't really thinking, he just... Did.
He couldn't focus enough to warp away, but his mind spurred his body in those split seconds and he utilized his warping to move just an inch as the first arrow came at him. Then again, and again, and again. To the onlooker, it was like he was phasing through the arrows. But for Caius it was a dangerous game of warping just a step at the right moment. Small warps didn't use too much energy compared to the big ones, but using them so consistently was definitely starting to build up fatigue. But it was enough to get him through the barrage. He heard footsteps, and out the door came a flying set of feet. Seeming at least somewhat conscious now to his capabilities, Caius phased at the last second. Not used to this ability though, he found himself kneeling a bit afterwards, trying to catch his breath. Despite this, his gunblade materialized in his hand as he pointed it at his assailant. He hadn't had much chance to hear what she had said, as his mind was running a mile a minute. He'd heard his name used, which indicated she had been waiting to ambush him. Which meant...
"Where is Claire?"
His voice was incredibly calm, despite the circumstances. But there was a sharp edge to that calm as he slowly rose to his feet.
"If you hurt her, we're going to have a long talk."
But then things got muddled.
”I am so sorry! I thought you were… someone else, dam… I wish Claire said what you looked like…. No, that’s no excuse, this is my mistake. I just hope I didn’t hurt you, It’s a good thing I’m not that strong I suppose…”
Caius slowly lowered his gunblade, staring at her with a baffled expression. Wait... So she had mistaken him for another, and she...
”Well now I just feel bad… I have been planning that ambush since she mentioned you. Well, since your clearly NOT the immortal jerk I was thinking of I should thank you for helping my sister before I was able to get home. It means a lot”
She was her sister. Of course. Caius sighed as he let his gunblade disappear back into his glaive. He didn't really understand what was going on, but it sounded like Claire was safe. That was what mattered here. She apologized, and he slowly nodding his head, blinking repeatedly. But he didn't get a chance to respond before another voice rang out.
"S-serah!? I don't remember teaching you to attack innocent people!"
Caius' head darted towards the voice, and his shoulders sank in relief. Good, she was safe. The apologies began anew, and Caius scratched his head sheepishly at all this.
"It's alright. Though I'd appreciate if you two could tell me what's going on here" Caius brought up to the two of them politely, as he looked to the basket with a curious eye. He blinked a few times. Was this basket for him? After a few moments, he reached over and took the basket with a nod of thanks. "You didn't have to do this" he brought up softly, peeking in and seeing the sweets in the basket. He placed the basket down a moment as he kneeled to properly be on Claire's level of height. "Thank you, though. I greatly appreciate the gesture. I actually came to let you know that my work in Provo's finished for now, and Celes and I will be heading back to Torensten for the time being in a day or so."
He held out his hands, and something bundled in wrapping paper materialized in them as he handed them to Claire. Upon opening it, inside was a package of Provo's signature corn candies, loosely tied to a big plush chocobo.
"You hadn't been to town yet, last I'd heard from you, so I wanted to get you some souvenirs. Judging by the basket though, I guess I was a little off the mark. Sorry about that" Caius admitted with an embarrassed laugh. The sweets were a good taste of what Provo had to offer, he figured. And Chocobo Races were Provo's biggest sport. Claire had also shown excitement when he'd brought up the prospect of Chocobos being in Zephon, so he'd gotten the impression she liked them. When he'd seen the plush, he immediately knew from their conversation that he had to get it for her.
He looked to Serah remorsefully. "I wish I'd known you'd come home, I'd have brought something for you too. My sincerest apologies, I'll make good next time. You can share the candies if she allows, though" Caius expressed to Serah. "Oh and um... Right. Just to get things clarified. My name's Caius Dragelion. I'm a mercenary with the Dragonblades. A pleasure."

I'm not an army of one
She was as likely to live this down as Hope was to take up body building, the pure raw embarrassment would chase her through Claire alone for months and hang on to her for even longer. She had let her dislike of Caius Ballad cloud her judgement on the matter, to the point she had not bothered to check if they were one and the same. He would probably get a good laugh out of it if he were around, she was sure. The level of done on her almost victims face said it all. He could not blame him for thinking Claire was in danger ether, what kind of maniac just shot a bunch magic arrows at someone out of nowhere like that? Well… Her Fiancé, but he would also have been right unlike her, Hero’s were good like that! She was lucky the man seemed to accept her apologies at the very least, she was not sure what else she could say if he had not. What else could she say? ‘Hey at least my arrows didn’t actually pierce you!’ ? Well the least she could do was answer the question he had when he came.
”It’s like Mog said, she should be rounding the corner any…”
Annnd Speak of the pixie devil and she shall appear! It was at that moment Serah really felt the pressure. Yep that was right despite Serah now being the older sister, Claire’s dissatisfaction none the pierced her like a knife through the gut. She became notably sheepish as the younger girl called out to her. She lowered her head in shame as Claire approached and, as if triggering her memories of the old days Serah instinctively muttered:
”Yes mam….”
She would however quickly shake herself out of that form, she was the older one now! Wrong or not she could not just go reeling to her sister’s advances. Besides, she had meant well with this. She did not mean to attack an innocent person. She thought she was attacking Caius Ballad, literal scourge of her and her sister’s lives. Still, Serah had dressed up nicely and every, and she had practically ruined her meeting with the man. She felt guilty about that, the shame keeping her silent as the two conversed at first. Though it kept racking at her even as Claire gave the man her gift. Finally, it was too much, she had to give… some explanation, right? She did not want to scare her sister but… She did not want her to think she was just some wild brute ether. Crossing her arms, she looked to the ground, this time not out of shame, but from recalling the pains of memory past.
”I rushed in the way I did because…. Back in my world, in my time…times? The Caius I knew brought ruin to mine and my sisters’ lives…. Especially my sisters, It was his plan that shattered all my friends lives. Even defeating him just…”
She clenched her teeth, shaking her head as if trying to reject the memory. They tried so hard, she and Noel got so far… and all of it was playing right into his hands. All of it was just what he had wanted. If it wasn’t for Light she wouldn’t even be….
…..
”It’s no excuse for almost harming an innocent person, my sisters right. But I hope that at least explains why I acted the way I did. Caius… He’s really strong, not the kind of guy you can hesitate against”
Even with the aid of Noel and the monster allies that lent them strength they were barely able to defeat him. He was not a man to be underestimated, or to be allowed to his own devices.
As for what was going on? Well Serah could explain that well enough, composing herself she brought a hand to her hip and smiled.
”Were moving, Staying in a cabin in the middle of nowhere…. Is not the best thing for someone Claire’s age. She will get a lot more out of town life I think… plus she’ll be closer to her classes and can make friends!. One of my own friends is letting us stay at her place so were just moving our things there now”
She paused, thinking things over in her head. At least Claire had still been able to deliver her surprise to Caius. But she still had to make things up to her for all this trouble. He owed it to her. Besides…. She deserved a reward for how well she was doing with her Thunder magic to! She turned to her sister and gave her a grin while patting her head, she would have ruffled it, but she could see the work she had put into her appearance, she had no intention of ruining it.
”I’m sorry I almost ruined everything Claire… Tell you what, to make up for it I’ll take you for a ride on Bennu ok?”
That would probably thrill her sister the way she was now, being able to ride a chocobo, and not just any old chocobo, but a red one! As she made the offer, she brought out his crystal, allowing it to shine in the light of day before she giggled. She remembered the fight where Bennu joined her, he was rowdy then… and had been since, such a crazy chocobo, but he kept his passengers safe none the less.
”You deserve it anyway, you’ve been doing a wonderful job mastering Thunder”
She could not help but giggle at Caius apologizing to HER. Of all things… she should be the one begging him for forgiveness after all this.
”It’s fine, I’d hardly say I deserve a sweet treat after all this anyway! though…. You should enjoy te treats my sister made for you, she put a lot… and I do mean a LOT of work into them”
Several burnt batches, one fire, and the time she just poured the sugar in… Claire was not a natural at this, but she had learned and improved greatly. The treats she had made for this were treats more than worthy of being enjoyed by the ones they were made for. She hoped Caius did just that. Ah introductions of course. The man was no more than a mercenary, yes it was a far cry from what she had been so worried about. The pinkette sighed once more in embarrassment.
”I’m Serah Farron, the youn… older of us siblings, I’m a teacher, currently unemployed… as well as the guardian of…”
She stopped a moment, tapping her chin before turning to Claire with a smile.

Thinking of you, wherever you are I've returned from memories past, reborn anew
⚡
"Despite how she looks, Mr. Caius, this one is just 'big' that's all. She still responds just like she used to when I scold her~" that certainly got a giggle out of Claire. "Well, nobody was hurt, so all's well that ends well in that regard." Claire could consider her gift basket delivery a success.
Serah would be the one to explain what was happening, with Claire nodding in agreement. "I'm currently training~ In many ways admittedly." she admitted, thinking about how hard she worked to make said gift basket. Thus, when Caius said she didn't have to, she vehemently shook her head. "Not only is it good manners, it shows just how grateful I am to you. I'm sure Serah is too, now that this little misunderstanding is behind us." she noted before looking knowingly at Serah. In turn Serah offered to make it up to her, causing her to raise her right eyebrow. She mentioned a name, in turn, she rested her left hand on her hip. Claire's little Big sister had her attention now, in which she revealed a crystal that housed this Bennu. Claire was very intrigued at least, though she couldn't help but feel happy for being praised.
"Mastering Thunder is just the first step..." she admitted, though she'd put that aside for now. Caius was grateful for the gift and that's what mattered. Though more so, he announced he was heading to Torrensten, which got her to gasp in surprise. Only, there wasn't any hint of sadness. She took the bundled wrapping paper into her hands and smiled instead. "I'll think about sharing it with Serah~" she admitted only for Serah to mention how much work she put into them.
"SERAH!" she called out, flushing red with embarrassment. "I-I just needed the experience, in case I meet someone who is nice like Mr. Caius but my age..." she muttered, raising her left hand from her hip and covering her face. "A-anyway, right now I'm Provo's Lightning Mage. However, once I've raised my proficiency with different spells, I'll be heading to Torrensten too. Come to think of it, Serah, aren't you heading to Torrensten in a day or two also, accompanying Miss Lumina and her boyfriend by Airship?" Claire began, slyly changing the subject to something she could handle.
"My classes are in provo for now but... I'm officially aiming to join the University of Magic in Torrensten. My goal is to wow them with my proficiency. So, even though it's good bye for now, it's more of a see you soon. Besides, it's not just sweets in that basket. There's something else that shows our bond inside too. Please, take a look." she explained, only to recollect her failures in cooking.
Baking was hard! It was an art and a science! Sure, she burnt some batches, that happened... it's not like they had modern ovens to work with out here. The fire certainly proving her point on that... Fortunately, they didn't end up burning Miss Lumina's house down. Claire may still be getting used to things in this world but even she could tell that house was expensive. The time she put in too much sugar was... well, Claire had a sweet tooth, so...
"Ah right and despite how things look, I'm actually the older sister. I think this little incident proves as much, wouldn't you agree, Mr. Caius?"

The Dragonglaive
Caius couldn't help but laugh a bit at the back and forth between the sisters. He was aware that Claire had been the bigger sister in their respective world variants, but it was still funny to see Serah shrink at being scolded by what was now her younger sister. But she was right, nobody had gotten hurt at the least. Perhaps it was tied to Caius' paranoia, but he'd managed to come out relatively unscathed, just a little fatigued all in all.
So there was a Caius in their world that had wreaked havoc? Well, it couldn't have been him. He doubted that even a variant of himself was in their world, which judging by their garb, was far different from Lucis. And the fact that Serah had recognized on sight that he wasn't who she was looking for. Still, perhaps she should have done some background research first. He could understand her paranoia, but he could see a hundred holes in her plan. Mostly based around the fact there was no plan.
Either way, it was water under the bridge now. So they were moving? "I agree, this isn't the safest place. I assume she's told you about the Bombs?" Caius brought up, scratching his head. "Once you're all settled in, let me know when possible where to look and I'll visit next I am in the area."
He was curious what this "Bennu" was. "Is Bennu some kind of chocobo?" Caius inquired curiously, not aware that the girls were monster riders. "I don't have a chocobo myself, though I have a companion of my own. I left him at home for the time being, wanted to let him rest after a particularly stressful outing. I'll bring him next time and introduce you" he offered in turn. Caius smirked slightly when Serah insisted that Claire put a lot of work into the sweets, and Claire's reaction that soon confirmed said statement. Handmade, huh? That was really sweet of her.
"Provo's Lightning Mage, huh?" Caius spoke up when the sisters brought up Claire's most recent nickname, laughing a bit in turn. "That's quite the title. You wear it well."
Claire talked about her intentions of joining the University of Magic in Torensten. He'd suggested that some time ago, hadn't he? It seemed she had made a decision on that idea. That was good. It was better for her to learn magic in a safer, more controlled environment anyway. But it seemed that it wouldn't be too long before he saw them next if they would be heading to Torensten. "Well, I'll certainly look forward to seeing you around there. Our headquarters is called the Wyvern's Rest, within the city. Absolutely come visit. I think they'd love you there."
Caius chuckled as Claire insisted she was clearly the older sister as he reached into the bag and dug out one of her treats and decided to take a bite. As he did, he curiously peered into the bag. She had said something else was in the bag, didn't she?

I'm not an army of one
”Hmph, that’s a lot of talk, remind me Claire which of us was the one to hunt down the monster’s with the materials you needed? Hmmm?”
Serah crossed her arms at her sister’s antics. It was not HER fault. She was used to her sister being the older, disciplinary figure in her life. She understood why now that she was an adult, but that gut reflex to react with profuse apology was still hard wired into her being, she just could not help it.
”Though you if you really want to be the big sister again so badly….”
Serah let the comment hang in the air, almost like a threat to make just that happened if Claire kept it up! Of course, in truth Serah had no idea how to do any such thing. More so she no intention of messing up her sister’s one chance at living a life all her own even if she could. But hey, she never told Claire she could not so that was enough to poke a tease to counter her antics against her. Still, she could not help but be proud of her sister despite her antics. She was working so hard, improving so quickly. Even with her cooking, where Claire would have once made a bunch of burnt charcoal, she had quickly taken to her lessons on cooking, improving enough to make the baked goods she now served Caius. It made her happy to see, happy and proud.
Claire living her life…. It was such a wonderful sight to see.
”Of course I’m grateful. Thanks for helping Claire while she…”
Serah blinked when Caius brought up the subject of Bombs. Then just as quickly as she had been praising Claire her eyes turned back to being stern as she regarded the younger Farron. The look on her face…. It would be clear she was not the least bit entertained.
”Claire… what is he talking about? Sis that’s not the type of monster you play around with me… please tell me you weren’t…”
It was equal parts sternness and worry. The thought of those types of monsters attacking her now little sister in the woods terrified her, even more without her around to protect her. But she also very much knew her sister. As a result, she knew there was also the extremely high chance she had gotten herself into such a situation. Ether way…. It made it all the better that they were leaving these woods behind. Serah sighed, she could not help but wonder what their mom would do in this situation. Chastise her? Comfort her? Check her body for wounds? She could not ask… only search her memories. She could only hope she could do half the job she and Lighting had done with her.
”Your ok right sis… you weren’t hurt? ….thank you for helping her Caius”
The tense situation was thankfully lessened soon after as her teasing had the desired effect on her little sister. Claire became flustered so easily now! Choose the right subject and she was tripping over her heels. She would have to keep that in mind when she got uppity again. Though the thought of Claire treating someone her age to treats like this… she wanted to find a date. She absolutely did! That thought though… What if she met some troublemaker? Some Delinquent who went around causing trouble? What if the person she met dragged CLAIRE into said trouble? What if she entered a rebellious phase and dyed her hair?!
WHAT IF SHE WENT FULL CLASH AND DRESSED LIKE LUMINA?!
The girl began pacing back and forth, despite her current company. She then did a full stop, took a deep breath and turned to Claire.
”Surely we can wait a… few years until your fully grown sis…?”
She was going to all her sister’s basket giveaways from NOW on!
When the subject of her trip with Lumina came up Serah was finally able to gather herself, able to focus on a subject that DIDN’T terrify her more than a Behemoth bearing down on her. She nodded her confirmation, crossing her arms and attempting to make herself more comfortable.
”That’s right, Lumina is going on a trip there and I’m going to help her, I’ll be sure to bring you something back. Though…. Who knows Claire, when you come maybe I’ll end up your teacher~ I’ve done well enough around Provo~”
Yep she was back to teasing her sister, or she hoped to anyway, the irony of such a situation was despite herself pretty funny to imagine. An even more fun situation displayed itself to her not long after to, both Caius and Claire had taken and interest in what she said about Bennu. With a wide grin she held the crystal she had been fiddling with into the air, focusing energy in it to cause it’s activation.
”Bennu isn’t just a chocobo….”
The energy released, causing a bright flash in the area. When it dispersed what stood before everyone was… ”He’s a red chocobo!”
She made the declaration with pride, said chocobo cawing in pride as Serah announced him. What followed was she and the chocobo making a dramatic poise completely unfitting the situation. Bennu stood proudly, his chest puffed up and head raised high into the air. Serah posed with a grin leaing against him, her hands in the air as if to declare ‘yeah I’ve got one!’
See Bennu was a red chochobo, and red chococbos…. Were notoriously wild in her world. But they were also the fastest and, in her opinion strongest ones you would see!
”Bennu is one of my partners, he’s helped me out a lot!, He's the greatest chocobo you'll see!”
Looking back to her sister Serah gave a knowing grin, she had to show her place as the older one right? It certainly wasn’t out of a need to counter her sisters antics, no way!
”I don’t know, taming monsters seems like a pretty big sister thing wouldn’t you say Caius? Besides who do you think is paying for your classes sis? Maybe we should get you a job since your so grown up hmmm?”
Of course, she had no intention of actually doing so, she wanted her little sister to live her life. But well if Claire were going to act uppity, she could reflect it right back!
”It depends on what delivery methods are in Torrensten…. So far things are less… advanced than I am used to in this world. Let me know how to get a hold of you though, We’ll definitely need to know! Besides, I still have to make up for this…. Embarrassment….”
By now Serah had returned to her usual stance, hands to her chin in thought. Caius had said he had a companion, it did not sound like he meant a human. Was Caius capable of taming monsters to? But that power… well she supposed it could be different in this world? Or perhaps even just Caius’ own. Or maybe it was just a more domestic creature. People COULD tame chocobos without the power of chaos after all. Maybe it was a creature similar…?
”That’s wonderful! What kind of being is it Caius? In my world theirs many types of creatures… but for the most part Chococbos are the ones everyone can tame… is it something similar to them?”
The Wyvern’s rest huh…? She felt beyond embarrassed. All the things Claire had told her, they were nothing like what the Caius she knew would do. Caius had done no wrong here if anything he had saved her sister from being harmed. She would definitely need to stop by while she was in town and see if his group needed help with anything. She was not much, but she was pretty handy with a bow after all!
Besides…. Maybe she really would apply for a teaching position.

Thinking of you, wherever you are I've returned from memories past, reborn anew
⚡
Contrary to Claire's antics, when challenged about who did the hunting, her remark was simple. "You did the hunting, since you've always been good at picking out good food. Choosing good materials after a hunt is only natural." the younger Farron stated this as matter of fact, with casual praise and recognition. In that way, she wasn't quite like her chaotic counterpart.
Especially as their Mother's words on this were still fresh in her mind after all. So, Claire smiled faintly with approval, in something that could be nostalgic to the now older Farron. As for the looming threat of being the big sister again, Claire closed her eyes, smiling wider still. "That's okay, I believe in the current you Serah. A teacher should be able to fill the role in with ease." adding a cute tilt of her head, Serah would now experience a tactic every older sister faced at some point. The cute appreciation of a younger sibling, weaponized to get out of the most harrowing ordeals. In this way, Claire was indeed like Lumina and the possibility of seeing more of that side loomed in the air. All unknowing to Claire, who only knew Lumina by name and second handed information courtesy of Serah.
Just when Claire thought she had gotten out of one fire, Caius just had to mention the bombs. That topic had been intentionally avoided, so as to spare Mog and herself a lecture. Well, now that it was out in the open, the next best trick in a younger sister's arsenal? Confess the truth and appeal to sensibility! "...Mog and I had gone on patrol around the Cabin. Mostly because I couldn't sit still knowing you were out. I hadn't accepted that you were...well...big. In my mind and heart, you were still that little sister from the hospital." best to butter Serah up a bit in this confession, while establishing Mog's involvement.
"...It was a good thing we did patrol, as I found Bombs approaching the cabin. Vulnerable as I might have been, it'd be worse if they made it to the cabin right? So, I led them away from the cabin onto the main road because I was certain the city watch would be out patrolling. That's...how I met Mr. Caius. N-now you see why I'm so grateful? You should have seen how quickly he dispatched the Bombs too, it was incredible!" hopefully that satisfied Serah a bit, Claire opened her eyes to take in Serah's expression. Stern, not a good side, in the end she shifted into worry and verbalized as much.
"I'm okay, not a scratch on me. I just hated how vulnerable I felt, didn't think I'd see the day where I was a damsel." this was what she didn't want to recollect about that moment. She was regretting wearing heels that day, even if she couldn't anticipate being summoned to a new world after school. Not so coincidentally, it's why she hadn't worn the outfit she was summoned in much, especially the shoes. Those were best saved for when she had an array of magic at her disposal.
"As for where we're staying now, it's not too far from the market. Further North and I think east, there's a big mansion belonging to some wealthy aristocrat. I've been using that as a marker of sorts so far." if Claire recollected briefly, the Mansion was of owned by... something de Lune? Where something was the man's first name, which she heard in passing. A testament to her priorities as of late, which consisted of improving her baking skills and training magic.
With one of those tasks out of the way, Claire was curious about Caius' own companion. "I'll look forward to meeting them." Her own imagination was going wild, likely as much as Serah's had. Though while the older Farron contemplated that, Claire focused on her nickname being uttered by Caius. "...I'm glad you think so but it's a bit embarrassing to hear it aloud when you say it." perhaps she needed to think of something that was more mature, less childish. A good title was like a brand, not unlike a superhero name. It had to make an impact, not unlike Bennu did. With its red feathers, loud caw of...well, not approval. More like an announcement of arrival, which the chocobo certainly earned. Claire looked on in disbelief initially, then the awe set in as she raised her brow.
Try as she might to come off mature in this situation, Serah had just summoned a freaking red chocobo. Those were rare and fast and admittedly, it made Serah seem that much cooler. What restraint she had was rapidly leaving her as she approached Bennu steadily. Her form bubbling with excitement just at the attempt to pet Bennu. In turn, Serah's boast about taming monsters being a big sister thing, largely bounced off.
"Mmm, you are a teacher, I think it's fine for you to handle finances. I'm sure the future me is proud, I know I am! This...you've done really well, Serah, wow!" that was about as much restraint as Claire had remaining in her shorter, lithe form. She was shaking in absolute excitement, like a volcano set to explode in a mix of unbridled affection and tacit curiosity. This too was just another lesson in handling younger sisters. It was best to make one's comeback when you had their complete attention~
For now, given her distraction that was all well and good. As Caius reached into the basket for the other gift, he'd be able to pull out the real pride and joy Claire had. It was the very shirt Caius mentioned they should get. Properly labelled and in his size too. Claire would peer over, wrenching herself from the awesome that was a Bennu, to smile. "See, now we've got shirts~ I can make more too for others at um... Wyvern's rest, yes? I just need to know their measurements. My little Big sister has cooking and teaching but I've got fashion." she announced quite proudly, as well as nonchalantly.

The Dragonglaive
She had clearly not told her about the Bombs.
"Oh geez..." Caius muttered under his breath as his palm met his face while Claire promptly began to butter up Serah and work on her alibi. It was genius! He'd seen this bluff a thousand times. How would she fare? Find out next time on Final Fantasy 13-4: Serah's Rage. He just kind of stood there with his hand on his head wondering how in the world he had managed to get himself entangled in this. He almost felt bad that he had accidentally given away Claire's secret, despite the fact he didn't know it was a secret to begin with. Siblings, amirite? Caius hadn't experienced that feeling in so long that he didn't really know what it was like anymore. But he imagined this was just a sibling thing.
Then Claire was pacing all of a sudden. Why? He didn't know. It was a nervous tick, he knew, he did it too. But why? For reasons that were far beyond the understanding of Caius' romantically blind brain, obviously. But at the least, that also seemed to die down quickly enough. Claire explained where they would be staying and Caius nodded his head along, doing his best to make a mental note of it. He would definitely have to visit next time he was in the neighborhood. But then out came Bennu the chocobo, and Caius' eyes lit up at the sight.
Though he didn't actually understand when Serah gushed about it being a red chocobo. Did she just really like red or something? Caius was not from a world where chocobo color gave special powers, so this was not something he knew. He reached over and scratched under Bennu's chin, exactly in a spot he knew most chocobos enjoyed. "He's beautiful, but I imagine he's not fond of being cooped up. Most chocobos aren't. They prefer to roam, if possible" he brought up. He had grown up on a chocobo farm for a good ten-ish years, so he knew a thing or two. Even if he didn't know anything about color differences and their apparent effects. "Wherever you're staying, I'd recommend having some space for him to at least graze a bit. Doesn't have to be a huge space. Chocobos can graze in a fairly small, fenced in area. But not too tight. Just enough to be comfortable. Chocobos need a fair bit of exercise to ensure their joints stay healthy."
Serah tried to pin monster taming as an adult thing, and Caius couldn't help but smirk slightly. "If she's got the skill... Wouldn't having a companion that can help defend her if she gets in trouble be useful?" Caius brought up. Claire was rambunctious, but he wouldn't tell her to deny her if she had the ability. "Just remember it's not the easiest thing. It took me forever to properly tame Vordun, despite the fact I hatched him myself. Learning to ride him was a hell of a task, too. Damn near died several times. If you do tame a monster that you can ride, I would recommend bringing your sister until you're better situated while you learn to ride. Nothing worse than being wounded from a mistake and not having a healer around."
Thank the Astrals for Yuna. And he figured citing that Serah should be there for certain parts of the process would likely ease her on the idea. Not to mention just common sense. Riding was not for the faint of heart.
"You'll need to write. Torensten's not the most advanced, no. But it makes up for it with magical feats that Sonora and Provo could only dream of."
For Serah's question, he only smiled. "Vordun is better... Seen than described. Something to look forward to."
Then came the reveal of the shirt, and Caius burst into laughter. "I can't believe you actually did it" he remarked between laughter. "I'll have to clear the idea by Celes. She's going to think it's ridiculous, but she might have enough of a sense of humor to allow it. Might."
