Just as Yuffie was in the middle of patting herself on the back for putting out the fires, the ship was rocked by another wave. Grabbing onto one of the support beams to brace herself, Yuffie was once again regretting her life choices as her nausea was slowly-but-steadily creeping back up on her. However, she knew she needed to get back up onto the deck and support Rinoa, so she couldn't afford to let a little motion sickness slow her down. So she'd suck it up, and keep the fight against these pirates going. If nothing else, to buy Faris some extra time since he's quite literally facing the bulk of the pirates head on. However, just as she had collected herself and was ready to start running back up, there was a huge impact as the ship was blasted by what felt like large cannons. The force sends her crashing to the ground, but she's quick to recover. "What the hell?!"
Already being below deck, Yuffie just so happened to see the crystal as it fell, frowning as she looked at it. "...well then...that ain't good. Lucky I was down here" Quickly grabbing the crystal and tucking it under her arm, Yuffie quickly runs back up to the deck to not just the massive ship that attacked both of them and the pirates, but both groups in utter chaos. When she heard someone frantically asking where the crystal was, Yuffie paused. While she might be greedy and impulsive, she could also be quick-witted and cunning when the situation called for it. After a moment, she decided to make a gamble. She turned toward the crew of her own ship first. "I've got the crystal right here!" Then, she turned to the pirates who were attacking their ship and shouted at them as well, hoping she can get through to them.
"Oi! I'm sure you don't like me, and I sure as hell don't like you, but I'm calling for a ceasefire until we deal with whatever the hell that thing is. It ain't gonna do either of us a lick of good fighting each other if both of our ships get completely wrecked and sink! I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm a shitty swimmer so I'd like to avoid that happening! First we need to get to the other ship since it's taken the least damage!"

There were many things that Faris could manage in a fight. Deflecting a sword, for one. Knocking a shield out of an armored man’s hands for another. What he couldn’t deal with, however, was being blindsided by magic from both sides. That was a lot trickier.
”Augh!” Faris had barely spun his spear around, knocking his target mage upside the head, before both spells launched, striking him with ice and fire simultaneously. Lights burst through Faris’ vision. He felt himself freeze and burn simultaneously resulting in a splash of scalding water taking him over. He stumbled and fell to one knee, teeth grit as he braced himself against his spear.
Get up! Get going!
Faris couldn’t handle everything, but he knew how to fight through what he couldn’t manage. His set of crystal armor armor did something to help with that.
”You’ll pay for that!” Faris growled and thrust himself upright, dodging to the side in case of any more spells and turning to face them. His head felt hazy. The storm did nothing for his balance. Still, he was ready to keep fighting. He’d fight to his last breath, and he’d be damned if this was where he fell.
”Try that again, you cowards! I’ll-” Exactly what he’d do was left to the unknown. His words were ripped away by a sudden, violent lurch.
Faris jumped on instinct. He jumped before his balance could be snatched away and he could be sent tumbling into the depths. He took to the mast again, looping an arm around it for balance, his other hand grasping his spear. He cursed, scanning the fight below. It wasn’t looking good. His own battles aside, their motley crew was made for sailing -- not fighting. The girls he’d left behind were plenty capable on their own, but it wasn’t enough. At this rate, they’d be the last three left standing.
And that was when he heard the sound of cannon fire.
The sound had never stopped, exactly, but this was different. This was louder. Booming, in fact, in a way that sent a shock straight down to his bones. He felt his stomach drop even before he saw that horrible shadow approaching from the horizon. He didn’t know what a ship like that was doing out in a storm like this. He didn’t know why it had thought to join the skirmish, but he knew one thing. Pirate or sailor -- none of them stood a chance. Not against a monster like that. Not alone.
The ninja girl got the idea in a snap.
Taking a ceasefire? Teaming up? Sounded like she had the right idea.
”Aye! We’ll not stand a chance alone!” Faris jumped down to the head of the ship, startling the helmsman who ducked away with a shout. ”That ship will plow straight through us if it’s not stopped! Sides be damned!”
His voice was as strong as any cannons, thundering out over the storm with a captain’s authority. It was a voice he knew how to use -- the kind that carried over any wind or waves or pirate skirmishes. He was a captain, through and through. If someone didn’t man this ship then it’d be the both of them going under.
”We’ll have to band together! All of us! Or we’ll not live to see another sunrise!” He gave them a fierce look only half visible through the stormy half-light. ”And if you don’t, I’ll run you all through then take that ship myself!”
ell, she tried. But her weapon was designed more for support combat than for trying to fight off a full squad of enemies at once. She could only fire at one at a time. And Angelo was only one dog. Her friends were far more capable in that regard. But they were all SeeD. And Irvine. But his gun would probably be pretty intimidating right now. Regardless, they weren't here and her own efforts were not up to standard. The crew had to put the crystal down to fight off the pirates themselves. Which meant they were completely vulnerable to the next massive wave that hit the ship. Rinoa grabbed the nearest mast and rode the wave out with a scream. Why did she agree to this mission again?
Oh right, she needed to eat.
Probably not worth it if she died though. It was all getting a bit much for her to handle as unprepared as she was. Not being particularly observant and focused far more on her current woes, Rinoa did not see the other ship coming. Angelo's dog senses seemed to be more on point however, as the dog started barking and attempting to direct the crew's attention to the new arrival. Perhaps enough managed to look around in time to brace themselves for the bombardment. Rinoa was still clinging to her mast.
"REALLY!?!" she called out to no one in particular. Like there wasn't enough trouble going on, and they hadn't even found what they had been sent out here to find in the first place! Some asked where the crystal had gone, which would have been yet another huge problem if Yuffie hadn't arrived on the scene and started trying to negotiate. Hoping they were all distracted, Rinoa didn't waste time and made a break for the other ship right away, ceasefire or no.
Yuffie and Faris' attempts to parlay with the pirates led them to stop fighting, and to form up as a large, balding man with a big bushy red beard stood at the end of the deck. It appeared that the pirates actually did have a Captain, who had been waiting to join the fray when it looked like it was the best time. The time, it seemed, was now.
"A ceasefire, ye squawkin?" the Captain remarked as he stared out at the shit that had fired upon them. It was starting to pick up speed... And he knew what that meant. "Aye. They got far too much firepower for us to take on. Ya got yerselves a deal, mates! Hop off that wreck before ye join it!"
The pirates quickly got to work in placing down a plank, allowing the remaining sailors and Yuffie to drag the crystal aboard and for the rest to board the ship. They had very little time to do so, as within the next few minutes, the titan of a ship would slam straight into the brig the Torensten crew had been aboard. It ran through it like a monster truck would a tiny car, very quickly sinking the Torensten Brig and leaving only the pirate vessel still standing.
"Cap'n Erick Redbeard's the name. And this is a fine mess we've gotten ourselves into" the Captain commented as the figures aboard the ship soon turned to them. He motioned to the remaining cannons on the ship as the cloaked figures began to crowd the cannons on their own ship...
The large man pointed his cutlass towards the body of the enemy ship.
"Arrgh, they intend tae throttle us with lead! Don't aim fer the men, disable their cannons! We'll force 'em ta board and fight on our terms!"
The remaining pirates on their ship would begin to crowd what cannons they had. Unless they saw fit to direct the shots the pirates were firing, Faris, Yuffie and Rinoa would soon find a group of small puckle guns at the ends of the ship they could use to try and pick off the cannon manners and buy them some time, or try a coordinated attack to take out the cannons themselves. Magic was also an option if they could figure out the best methods of utilizing it.
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
The pirates may have been yellow, knuckle-headed louts, but apparently even they had an ounce of sense rattling somewhere between their skulls. There were calls to action and then the planks were lowered, allowing passage to the sailors of their doomed expedition for the water crystal. Between the pirates and this new hulking menace, it seemed like there were forces that would’ve rather kept the sea stormy and the Kraken raging.
Faris spun his spear between his fingers, landing it solidly on the ship’s deck. His eyes scanned the remaining sailors, pirates, and mages. Were there enough of them left to take the ship that bore down on them now? Maybe. If they played their cards right.
Faris didn’t have long to think it over. In less time than he’d have thought proper, the ship came charging like a bull through the waves, caving in the abandoned ship’s stern. Faris cursed and jumped back, hand raised against the wood debris sent flying through the space between. It made a horrid sound like a caving tunnel. Faris hissed between his teeth. ”What the blazes does that thick-headed cur think he’s doing?”
Ramming another ship like that? One that was already on a fast track to the depths? That was one way to wreck themselves while they were at it.
A man was beside him.
”Cap’n Erick Redbeard’s the name. And this is a fine mess we’ve gotten ourselves into.” It was a sailor’s tongue alright, and that sense of kinship only set his hackles raising higher. Faris turned on the man before him -- the dolt of a captain who’d gotten them into this mess to begin with. His eyes blazed.
”That’ll be your mess I hope you know!” He advanced on him, armor clinking menacingly. ”What kind of spineless cur goes about raiding in a gale like this? Are you daft?” At the moment, Faris didn’t care much about the leading or how the brigands intended to throttle them with it. ”As far as I’m concerned, you couldn’t captain your crew out of a dull harbor! I only hope you’re better behind the cannons than the wheel! Or you’ll blow us all apart before they have the chance!”
With that said, Faris shook the wet locks of hair from his eyes. The foul ship was only just past spitting distance now. The men were taking to arms as their dolt of a captain had ordered, but it wouldn’t be enough. Anyone with eyes and half a brain in their skulls could see that. His thoughts raced with thoughts and ideas each more impractical than the last. This was exactly what the fiends must have expected. They’d practically invited the cannon fire on themselves.
But why?
Faris gave a sharp shake of his head. ”But they’ll not expect what we have in store.” That was the wildcard, he thought. Faris and Rinoa and that girl with the bladed wheel. They were fighters, all three of them, and maybe that would be enough.
”They’ll have a world of hurt coming their way.” Faris dodged his way through the crowds as close as he could to the action then prepared himself, waiting for the exact moment he might bridge the distance between the ships with a well-placed jump. Let the others man the cannons. He’d take them all on himself if that’s what it came to.
inoa managed to get aboard the pirate ship, but it seemed a truce was successful after all. For now, at least. But they still had plenty to deal with. Rinoa leaned forward with her hands on her knees and took a moment to catch her breath as she listened to Faris chew out the Pirate captain. Unfortunately, there wasn't much time for a break and the next phase of battle was about to begin. As the cannons were being maned, Rinoa reached out to the mages and drew some Thundara from them. With a break in the combat, maybe now she could bring the big guy in.
"I can summon." she said to Faris, "But it'll take a moment to channel." Regardless, she held her hand to her head and began the focusing for the summon. In her opinion, Doomtrain would be more effective then some cannon balls, especially to the enemy crew. And she didn't know what a puckle gun was to even consider that as a possibility. She'd stick to what she knew.
Yuffie nodded as the pirates, with a bit of extra persuasion from Faris, appeared to agree to a ceasefire and join forces against this new threat. She aided all of the crewmates in getting over to the other ship, before jumping over herself. She then watched with great satisfaction as Faris proceeded to chew out the apparent leader of these pirates, choosing not to say add anything to what was being said, if only because Faris had already said it better than she would've been able to. But there wasn't time for that now. It was about time to go on the offensive, and Yuffie nodded, ready to go toe-to-toe with their new enemy. Or, in Yuffie's case, magic to cannon. Whatever the case, Yuffie was eager to get this over and done with; the sooner she could get back onto dry land, the better.
As she overheard Rinoa mentioning being able to Summon, Yuffie let out a sigh, mumbling to herself "Man...my Leviathan materia would be great right now..." But now wasn't the time to complain about what she didn't have. Her first order of business? Chug a couple Ethers, because the one bad thing about Enemy Skills is that, while they were fairly potent, they burned through mana rather quickly. Then, feeling the magic flow through her once again, she took aim at the large vessel in front of her. Once again channeling magic through her body, she sets her sights on the cannons. What can only be described a solid pyramid of electricity appeared, before crashing into said cannons. It was a powerful spell that costs surprisingly little mana to use. Hopefully, it'll be enough to at least damage, if not outright destroy, them.
Summary: Yuffie drinks some Ethers to get her MP back up then casts Trine.
“Yer concern fer me mates is touching ‘an all, but a Cap'n's’ gotta do what they gotta do” the Captain retorted to Faris’ remarks. “Me crew’s got starvin’ family displaced affer’ some nutters leveled the hospice they were workin’ fer in Provo, das why many of ‘em are workin’ wit me. Selling that crystal, even if dangerous ta get, coulda set me lads fer life. An’ ain’t nothin I wouldn’t do for me crew. An' I wouldn't have 'em do anything they weren't 'willin to do. A real Cap'n looks out fer his mates over everythin' else."
With that, the Captain got to work. As Rinoa began the summoning process, Faris began to get into position and Yuffie casted a large burst of electricity, the Captain's crew were at least efficient in one thing -- they were very precise with their cannonfire. Considering how quick they had been to nearly cripple the Torensten vessel, perhaps this was a given. Had they not tried their luck with ramming a foe they didn't know contained a set of wildcard fighters, they may very well have had the advantage in the previous fight...
In this case, the precision of the crew's cannon shots was able to disable many of the ominous Man O' War's firearms before they could fire, though a great many still manage to put holes in the ship when they did, forcing the crew to duck for cover.
Yuffie's Trine deals damage to a fair few of the crew members, but as Faris takes a leap of faith and climbs aboard the enemy ship, a fog begins to form under them, eventually coming up to their waist. While the fog makes it difficult to see, there's one thing that becomes very clear within moments as Trine's electricity burns off several of the enemy pirate's cloaks.
... Their flesh is not flesh, but bone. Their heads are skeletal, with blue fires inside their mouths reaching up to their eyes. But they don't have much time to react to this development, as the plank soon comes down, and a group of the skeleton crew begins to board their ship!
"Mates! Be ready 'fer the fight of yer lives! To arms!" calls the Captain, as the pirate crew springs into action to head them off. Some swing across and join Faris in their fight on the skeleton crew's ship.
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
Faris would have liked to growl back at the fake of a captain. He wanted to talk about starving families? About doing what he’s got to do? It was too late to play the victim, and it was a cowardly tactic aside. Faris had no room for cowards or curs and his crew’d have done better without him. Starting out of the gate with cannonfire? Setting the whole target ship ablaze? Seemed like a funny way to go plundering unless they all had gils to take their spoils from the depths of the sea. No, he’d been out to sink them from the start, and that was all there was to it.
He didn’t know why the captain bothered to lie. It didn’t matter when they were all under attack and about to set course for the depths themselves. He’d deal with that yellow-bellied captain later. Assuming they both survived the fight.
Faris landed, bizarrely, in a sea of fog. He blinked, looking around to catch his bearings. Was this some kind of spell? Another trick of the fiend? Smoke was already thick in the air, and it took him a moment to notice that his allies had set their foes ablaze. He hopped back, light on his feet and spear spinning at the ready. That was when he noticed a strange white glint through the fog.
Bone. The fire was reflecting off hard human bone.
Faris growled to himself. ”They’re undead!” he called back, hoping his captain’s bellow would be enough to reach them over the cannons. ”Cast your curing spells if you have it!” He didn’t have much more time to talk before the devilish things were on him, gathered around a fiendish malice. Their skulls burned with blue flame where the eyes should have been.
Was that the key to their cursed life then? If Syldra were here, she could have sent a wave crashing over the desk to extinguish every single flame. She wasn’t though, and she never would be again. Faris was alone.
One good thing about fighting the undead was their lack of smarts. While they could swarm just fine, they were clumsy and Faris took to the air without trouble. The problem was that his usual attacks were just about useless with the piercing effects of his spear. The bones made for narrow targets and would only splinter if struck. Faris instead elected to swing his spear like a staff, knocking them over the head with the blunt end and hoping to cave in the skulls and send them rolling.
Still, there was only so much he could do taking them one at a time. He’d have to rely on the others to end this while he kept their attention.
”Stop the cannons!” he called back between huffs of breath. ”We’re taking this ship! I’ll not have you lot sending it under!”
Leviathan summon would be pretty handy right now, though Rinoa didn't know what a 'materia' was or what it had to do with summoning. Yuffie took the time to chug some drinks of some kind. Like a potion maybe, but it looked different. Weird. Well, there was probably some purpose to it. Or Yuffie was a secret alcoholic calming her nerves. Everyone around her snapped to action, but she was stuck while channeling her summon. Thankfully, they all managed to make themselves better targets so Rinoa avoided being attacked. She heard the call out from Faris that the enemy was a bunch of undead. Well, of course they were. Why wouldn't] they be attacked by a ghost ship on top of everything else going on? Well, time to fight fire with fire, or in this case: fight ghost ship with ghost train.
"Runaway train!" She shouted, throwing her hand forward. Green orbs of energy flew from her as the spell was invoked. Then a sound could be heard, like a bell almost. Rinoa wondered if a bunch of pirates would even know the sound of a train warning. Or the clacking sound as one ran along it's track. Then came two lines of fireballs, running parallel to each other. They rose out of the water, oddly enough, and then moved across the deck of the ghost ship, surrounding the bulk of the skeletal pirates. The clacking grew louder. Then with a mighty splash, Doomtrain rose from the depths along it's fiery track and descended upon the ship of the dead with a demonic wail that reverberated around them louder than the storm. With immense speed it made straight for it's targets.
OOC: I don't know how playing summons is suppose to work here so I've just wrote it like an attack xD Doomtrain's attack is poison element and it inflicts Sleep, Poison, Darkness, Silence, Slow, Stop, Berserk, Confuse, Doom, Petrify, and Vit 0, if applicable.
