The combined efforts of the crew would see the Sahagin to begin to abandon their attack. That would be one less thing to worry about. Perhaps that that had earned them some time for the Toad spell to wear of the sailors. Though their problems would be far from over as made evident through the ship rocking towards the side. This would be followed by the sailors who were not turned into frogs discussing the crystal abandoned by the mages who are currently unable to use it. One remaining Sahagin would try to skewer the crystal only to be met with a barrage of needles courtesy of the creature who gathered the sailors.
Remembering what Caius told the creatur, Keimusho would not be one to ignore that warning sign. He just ate a Sahagin and is apparently intent on eating the sailors, there was no telling what else it could or would eat. Without wasting any time the ninja would utilize Shukuchi to teleport directly behind the unnaturally gluttonous being. Seven hells was he licking it? "Do not eat that," the ninja said emphatically. "Lest you want that to be the last thing you eat." It sounded harsh, but that was the best way to get the message across. The last thing they needed was for their problems to be added onto because of this creature.

"Nobody get in front of me!" Sabin warned, "I'm going to clean the deck!" he had called out, and while Caius was laser focused on the task at hand, he at least heard that and would adjust accordingly. He noticed Rem preparing the spell, which was good. They would have their magic restored once they cleared the deck, if they were lucky. They would be fully prepared to face the Kraken, and Caius could focus completely on these creatures for the time being.
Also the ship lurching. Caius and Vordun were drenched in seawater, and Vordun dug his claws into the wood to keep them from flying overboard as Caius hung onto the drake. Spitting out saltwater, and patting Vordun on the back while the drake did the same, Caius shook water out of his now very drenched long hair that was hanging all around him. With it dripping like crazy, it would weigh him down. Luckily, he had something for this. Holding out a hand, a band materialized in it. He kept it handy just in case, as he quickly squeezed out a bit more water before tying his hair back hastily. As he was doing that, he looked around... Wasn't the Crystal meant to protect them from the storm? The shine of the crystal and the monster who set the sail ablaze that was able to stab it told him well enough, but Quina took care of it. Then Mu took care of Quina. With the crystal back in their possession, Caius knew he needed to finish this quickly.
Caius appeared in front of one of the charging sagahin, and without hesitation landed a powerful headbutt the moment he had materialized. While it hurt, adrenaline sprang him forward as he gritted his teeth, landing a hard slug that sent them flying overboard. Vordun seemed to sense the urgency of the situation as the drake itself wasn't holding back either. As a monster tried to strike at Caius from the side, the drake fell upon them, sinking their jaws in and ripping the head of the creature from its shoulders in quick fashion. Caius had previously ordered Vordun not to use fire, which meant that the drake needed to use other means to fight. Between its claws and teeth though, this was proving to be a bad time for the monsters nonetheless.
Truthfully, Sabin hadn't paid as much attention as he should've to the details of their voyage. All he knew was there was a beast that needed to be punched in the face, whether it was Ultros or not, and he thought it wise to let better minds than his worry about the technicalities. He hunted the deck for sahagin that had survived his air blade, but many of them beat a hasty retreat. He broke out into a broad grin, chest swelling with the pride of victory, but he was getting ahead of himself--
A wave crashed down, nearly taking Sabin off his feet. He only barely held his balance. His clothes were already soaked through, his boots squishing with every step he took. He'd seen his fair share of nasty weather atop Mt. Koltz in the winter months, but this tempest was something else. Like the wrath of an angry god.
There was yelling about mages. Mages? Sabin turned his attention to the glowing crystal and then swept his eyes across the deck, enumerating the sailors and warriors still standing. Well, the battle with the sahagin had shown him they had a couple spellcasters among them, and he wondered if that counted--
No time for thinking, Sabin, the lights are out.
When the lightning flashed, his eyes were drawn up to the sahagin and the flame. Sabin might not have been paying attention before, but he was pretty sure that was bad. His eyes narrowed, and in that split second he assessed the route up - too high, too slick to climb. Could he be that accurate with an aura bolt? His hands began to glow -- only for Quina to take the creature out with a barrage of needles. Well, all right then. The glow faded.
He turned his attention to his comrades and the crystal.
"If we can't find those mages the sailors were yelling about, does anyone here know how to work this thing?" Sabin gestured at the crystal, looked towards it, saw Quina, and made a face. "...Maybe without licking it or trying to eat it."
The Qu’s attack lands, piercing the sahagin in rapid succession. It gives a terrible, strangled cry as it loses its balance, dropping in a crumpled heap onto the ground. The attack, however, is not particularly targeted. The needles scatter, tearing through the sails just as viciously as they tear through the monster. The upper half of the sail is shredded.
Licking the crystal results in no discernable change. It tastes like glass, stone, and something vaguely sweet.
With the combined efforts of Sabin and Caius, the last remnants of the sahagin are swiftly dealt with. However, the storm still rages as fiercely as ever. The heavy rain buffets the adventurers and crew, thunder roaring above as lightning claws across the sky. The howling wind strikes them as sharp as any tridents, and the deck tosses among the waves.
The crystal continues to glitter, inactive and waiting. The mages have all been turned into frogs. Without them, the storm can’t be calmed -- not unless it is activated by a mage of equal caliber that is.
The party doesn’t have long to consider their next course of action. Just long enough for a conversation, a few ideas, maybe some solution. Then the ship gives a terrible tremor. It’s enough to rock it first one way and then the other. A great shadow passes beneath the waves -- vast and black as night. Something is beneath you. Something mysterious, unknowable, and old as the seas themselves.
Something like a roar rumbles from below. It is alien, chilling, and loud enough that the wood creaks under your first. Just when it seems that the call might never end, something bursts around the ship. Several somethings. Tentacles, grasping and puckered and ready to sweep across the deck.

It was imperative that they figure out how to activate the crystal. "I'm afraid that I have not a clue of how this crystal works. And if I'm not mistaken none of us left are mages. Otherwise someone would have already activated the damned thing." The was shaping up the be a horrible situation. The storm was raging intensely. Rains were heavy, the winds were sharp, and the thunders roared. "Something has to be done about this storm. the last this we need is to face this Kraken while this storm rages on. This is only a hunch, but perhaps we could somehow activate this thing if we channel our energies through it." The Au Ra did not like relying on gut feelings, but they were grasping at straws at this point. And then it appeared. First, the ship rocked heavily. Then, tentacles pierced through the ship decks. "One giant squid incoming!" Enma yells. "Seven hells. Perfect timing." If it wasn't obvious earlier they truly had no time to exhaust other options. "By the Kami please let this work," the ninja said as he started pouring some of his aether into the crystal.

The monsters had been defeated, but the storm was still battering them. Vordun had planted himself and with his size that was fine for him. Caius could not. He was a big man, but he still needed to cling to the dragon for support lest he be thrown overboard. Why wasn't the crystal working?
Oh no.
The sailors were still frogs. Which meant that nobody knew how to turn it on! Caius loosed a low curse under his breath. Maybe two curses. Or three. He was going to sound like Faris if he kept this up though, so he needed to settle down and try to formulate a plan...
Mages... Mages... Mages!
"Rem!"
Caius quickly called out to his fellow Dragonblade. He had no clue if she had any idea how to make it work, and odds were? Whatever she was going to do if he asked would doom them all. But if she didn't, they may very well be doomed anyway. As she had already used her magic to replenish his own magic reserves, he was fighting fit if it came to the Kraken, meaning Rem could focus on...
"Rem, I don't know if you know how to activate crystals, but could you try? You know more about magic than any of us" Caius suggested. This was going to be a trainwreck, he just knew it. But she wouldn't cast Tornado in the middle of a storm, would she?
His mind flashed back to that cramped space where she used tornado anyway.
Oh god. She actually might.
He supposed if they were lucky she might kill the Kraken during the process of killing them all, but he wouldn't get his hopes up. Well, it was now or never. He needed to be on guard in case...
The tentacles that followed finished his thought.
That. He needed to be on guard in case of that.
Seeing as Mu was busy trying to power the crystal, Caius knew all he could do was hold the Kraken off. "One order of seafood soup coming right up" he muttered as he warped forwards, slashing several times at the nearest tentacle before zipping back, testing its reflexes. Gauging how much damage it might take... He knew they didn't have much time, but...
Well, thank the Astrals for Rem's MP restoration technique at least.
So that storm was a problem, Sabin thought, as saltwater stung his eyes and he struggled to keep his balance through another great lurching of the ship. What could he do about it? He ran through it all in his head in as much time as it took him to wipe the sea spray off his face. They needed the crystal to deal with the storm and they needed the mages to deal with the crystal, and while Sabin had learned a few spells off some Magicite what felt like a million years ago, he was no more a mage than a kitten was a tiger.
So where did that leave him?
Well, it sure looked like a bunch of giant tentacles were going to come crashing down on the ship.
Now that, that he could handle.
"NOT TODAY, ULTROS!" he bellowed as he charged up an Aura Bolt, blasting it at one of the tentacles to the left of Caius, the bright light illuminating the ship and the creature like a flash of lightning. He didn't remember Ultros being this big, but that octopus was irritatingly crafty so Sabin didn't question it.
Sabin moved closer to the edge of the deck, breathing deep and focusing his energies. He wondered how close the creature's body was to the surface, if he could dive down and hit it with something. That worked out all right last time, didn't it?
No time to answer that question. Sabin planted his feet on the deck, a red aura enveloping him as he performed another Blitz. He placed his hands together and fiery doubles of himself appeared, launching at the tentacles through the raging storm. Ultros hadn't liked fire very much, last time they tangled, so Sabin was all too willing to bring the heat one more time.
Caius calls for Rem. Rem, the mage. Rem, the only real chance of easily activating the crystal. However, as Rem nods her affirmation and rushes towards the crystal, the ship gives another lurch, tilting almost sideways. Gravity seems to fall away, and for a terrible, sickening moment it feels as though the ship might capsize. A wave crashes into the deck, rushing against them and threatening to tear away their footing. It’s almost unbearable. Once the ship rights itself, and the terrible, drowning weight of the water lightens enough to stand, one thing becomes horrifyingly clear.
Rem is gone.
Keimusho feels his energy drained into crystal. He can feel it working. He can see the crystal light up in brilliant green, but despite his calls for aid, none comes. Keimusho is left on his own -- his energy powering it to maximum capacity. As the tentacles thrash through the water, the crystal bursts with light, rushing out in a shockwave of magic. In an instant, the rain has slowed to a drizzle. The ship gives a final shudder as the waves calm to slow pulse. Outside of the perimeter of the magic, the storm rages with all of its howling might.
This peace has come with a cost. As Keimusho was the only one giving his energy, he feels drained and tired. His moves are more sluggish. While the immediate threat has been dealt with, Keimusho will have to be more crafty than relying on blunt force.
The tentacles wave menacingly. All eight of them rise out of the water -- four on both sides of the ship. The ones slashed by Caius recoil, thrusting back in a desperate attempt to dodge. Sabin’s aura attack launches in rapid succession, striking two with fireballs that likewise cause the tentacles to writhe in pain.
The others, however, are not so easily given pause.
One tentacle reaches out blindly, sweeping across the deck and coiling around a sailor who cries for help. Another slaps against the mast, threatening to break it in its crushing grasp.
Three of them wrap around the deck itself, one from one side and two from the other. They grasp it tight and the ship gives a lurch.
The Kraken threatens to drag the entire ship under.
Rem can’t see anything as she’s thrust underwater. Under the crashing waves, it’s impossible to tell which way is up. Even when she breaks through the waves, she’s quickly forced right back down again.
Her lungs scream for air. Is this how she dies?
No. Anything but that! Rem uses the only spell that comes to mind. Tornado. She feels herself caught in the overwhelming spiral of the spell, helpless in its grasp, and then she’s lifted up, up, up. The whirlwind explodes from the water, reaching high into the sky. Rem feels herself thrown from it, rocketing out at an unnatural speed. She screams, but the sound is stolen away by the wind. Her stomach heaves. Her vision goes black.
Conscious returns to her slowly. Where…? She feels sand underneath her. Wet, sticky sand. A white mage stands over her, a look of worry and astonishment on his face.
”You wouldn’t believe how I found you.”
All seems lost when suddenly a great whirlwind overtakes the ship. It lurches heavily. The winds are intense and blinding. One of the tentacles wrapped around the ship is caught by it and thrust backwards, exploding in a great rain of flesh and rubber octopus puckers. Seawater falls down like rain, and if you squint closely, you can see a small, almost human form rocketing out from the whirlwind like a bullet, flying away until it is completely out of sight.
The tentacles draw the eye of a certain Qu. Tasty. Giant octopus could be the tastiest of all. As Quina watches the meat rain down upon the water, the decision is made. They back up before launching themselves into the sea with a cry of "FOR THE MUNCHIES!"The remaining sailors are left baffled as the strange creature disappears beneath the waves.
Quina propels themselves forward, latching onto one of the tentacles from underwater. He stabs it repeatedly with his fork, bringing up clouds of blood. The tentacle writhes, and Quina is left grasping it for their life. With a hard flick, it sends the Qu flying with a sharp "Ughaaaah!" Quina lands outside of the calming sphere of the crystal and into the storm.
The Qu doesn't know how they survived. In fact, as the storm finally dies down, they find themselves floating on their back, squinting into the sun. When their feet hit a bank of sand, they blink dumbly before thrusting themselves upright. Still lodged onto their fork is a chunk of tentacle.
Quina has succeeded in his quest for rare octopus cuisine. Mission accomplished.

Keimusho pants as he manages to power the crystal. He could only watch as Rem was caught up in the whirlwind of her own making and as the frog eating monster was sent flying by the kraken. There was nothing that could've been done for them. That only left 3 warriors capable of facing the Kraken or maybe 2 and a half if taking the ninja's fatigue into account. Though the shinobi would keep his composure. After all, this situation was guaranteed to be dangerous. Fatigue and maybe a few casualties was to be expected. It was the reality of the situation.
Turning his attention from the crystal to the nearest tentacle, the ninja weaves the hand signs Ten, Chi, and Jin. Placing his hand on the ground creates the Suiton geyser to attack the tentacle. Not bothering to try and run towards the tentacle. He utilizes Shukuchi to teleport in front of the limb and proceeds to stab it with Trick Attack. Stabbing the limb creates a light blue burst of energy. The ninja figured that if his attacks were going to come a little slower then he would simply have the Kraken take more damage from the others for the time being.

The ship lurches, nearly capsizing. Caius and Vordun hold onto what's left of the pillars holding up the sails. A wave crashes onto the deck, but they hold on. But as things settle, Caius looks around and realizes...
Rem's gone bye bye.
His eyes widened, gaze darting around trying to catch sight of her. He would dive into the water if he absolutely had to, to save her. But it proved unnecessary, as all of a sudden there it was. The dreaded Tornado. Caius' eyelids drooped in an "of course" kind of look as Rem went flying into the stratosphere. And to make matters worse, while the Tornado and the blue devil's attempts to attack the Kraken had done some damage, they'd also found themselves down another man... Thing. And in order to save them all, Mu had been forced to use up his energy to power the crystal. Quite frankly, this whole thing had gone to hell really fast. And Sabin had apparently lost his mind and had started calling the creature "Ultros". So that was a thing.
To be honest this was basically Monday for Caius. But it didn't make him hate life any less in that moment.
Taking a deep breath and settling his nerves, Caius knew that they needed to end this quickly if they were going to stand a chance. Getting to his feet, he noticed Sabin starting to use fire... Perhaps he had an idea of what the monster might be weak to? Well, if there was one thing he had in spades, it was fire. He had a fire cannon right here.
Vordun seemed to know what Caius was thinking, as the overgrown lizard learned its head over the railings and unleashed a massive torrent of flames upon the tentacles, hoping to roast them all at once with a raging flamethrower. This time, there was no need to hold back. So long as the flames were kept away from the ship itself, the only one burning would be the Kraken.
