"Liberation of Fate"
"Whether it's Gods or Fate, I'll rebel against them all. We should determine our fate with our own hands..."
"I guess we can't be a family if I don't talk to her..." the first of many concessions. In truth, it was about more than keeping her love crush from Lightning. She wasn't sure how to interact with her, to treat Lightning like her own individual and not a part of her that she resented. Well, a little bit of resentment... She really wasn't so sure, being in Zephon had changed her a bit. Maybe, being in Zephon had changed her more than a bit. It was just perplexing and the lack of control in this situation, all the more frustrating. For the moment, she envied how freely Serah lived. Sure, she was frustrated and no doubt worrying about Snow but... she was handling herself quite maturely.
"Right, then I guess I'll tell him, eventually. Probably before we leave but I don't see anyone leaving Zephon anytime soon. Whatever tasks the Old Gods of this world have for us? It's still on the table." a fact she had to lay out there, being the big sister. Only something came over her, it didn't hurt but it did feel...unpleasant? Mild discomfort rather, causing her movements to be slowed. Even the Tonberry seemed to be affected after being scooped into her arms. Something was wrong but she couldn't put her finger on it, so she'd rather not worry Serah.
"There's a lot you can do to help, actually." Lumina mentioned finally as she gazed over the clipboard. Nodding her head slowly, she briefly looked to Tonberry, then up to Serah proper. "It looks like this trip is going to be a short flight, meaning they'll try to get back here sometime tomorrow instead of taking it slow. That means we're not going to pick up anything from Torensten to sell here, it's more we've got to be back with more supplies tomorrow. I'll take you and Zell with me of course but we've gotta prepare some of the supplies now."
Soon the airship would get started, meaning the sisters would need to clear the area. Lumina would gesture for Serah to follow, less the sound of propellers whirring drown out their conversation. Moving away from the hanger, their trip to a supply area wouldn't take long at all. As this was where it was stored for quick loading onto Radiance. Going over her checklist, they'd be able to get to work but something compelled Lumina.
"Mog knows how to find you no matter where you are, right Serah?" a sudden thought, it would seem that this Claire had become quite serious for a moment. Concern visible upon her features as she held her head with her left hand. Her perception of time stilled briefly, then she reverted to her childlike form without warning.
"I have a bad--" she paused, recognizing her voice sounded higher pitched. "This...is weird. Maybe I'm just overworked." which meant she could really use that help. Taking the clipboard from Tonberry, she'd hold it up for Serah to take. "We just have to make sure everything is sorted for pick up tomorrow."

"What's it like to be up there, high above it all, without a care in the world~?"
Zell was just full of surprises, clearly handling the teasing of the Farron sisters better than expected. Sure, he didn't quite say the words directly. Lumina wasn't so greedy or impatient, as to hold that over him right now. It was clear that he was really grateful for her feelings and wanted to do something for her. On the other hand, Lumina wasn't so sure she could do the dating part!
"Y-yesterday?! S-serah, I... I was trying..." she gave up on that retort soon enough. What could she say, there was a reason she wanted to keep this a secret. Sure, there was no need for that anymore, mostly. However there was still one hitch that held Lumina back!
"I... I've never been on a date before! I... How exactly is it even done...?" As if she hadn't hit her quota, how much more embarrassed could she get today, really?! Now she wanted to run but this time from both of them. Not that it was going to happen, Zell had kept a kind of hold on her. One that would prevent her from clinging and running, a practically genius move! Now wasn't the time for her to be impressed but she was, so with her free hand she mostly covered her face.
How fortunate then, that whilst this odd family dynamic was unfolding; the airship was heading into Torensten's airspace. Maybe Lumina would be able to figure things out better on the ground? No, she wasn't the type to put off her problems. Subverting some of it though...? "Putting my problems aside. Serah, you wanted to know where the kitchen was, right?" Distracting Serah with food was cheap. Then again, it worked on Zell, to which she'd tr5y to use the same trick on him as well.
"Why don't I take you both there? We've got this nice mess hall of sorts. Like a cafeteria~ Zell, are you hungry?"

"Something's not quite right, I sense foul play..."
Lumina was intrigued when the sigil didn't press in. She peered closer, recognizing that it had a sliding mechanism. Of course, she'd try to make it slide, to no avail. Experience truly was the best teacher and just as she was convinced that it might have been part of a locking mechanism, she looked behind her to Rufus and Dagger. A glimpse of shadow before the victim fell atop the keys. Even with the brief awareness, the shock of it all got to her. Not enough to make her cry out, mind but her breath was taken. Only after did a funny sequence of events dictate Lumina's course of action.
Right on cue, Vincent had returned to investigate the noise and Dagger took Lumina's forewarning to heart, while adding in one of her own. Briefly, Lumina closed her eyes, thinking it over before Vincent's question came forth. A natural one, which Rufus replied to in kind. As she opened her eyes, heart rate calming down, she noticed Rufus taking his leave. That was when the pink haired enigma laughed. "Boy, nothing like a jump scare to distract you from the truth!" she noted before approaching the Piano and Jules de Lune, properly. Whilst she believed both Vincent and Dagger regarding the victim being healed. Further, agreeing with them in silence that it was odd to do so, except to cover one's tracks but that wasn't all. Immediately, her eyes gazed upwards to the ceiling.
"From here, I saw a shadow as the body descended." Lumina spoke up, serious now despite her outburst. "If you want my advice? The healed wounds is a distraction, the real clue is that this room is key. The Piano with those devices, the fire place with the lock... This must be a trick room. A nice place to 'get away', y'know~?" Lumina paused, as she began to peer about the room, looking to the connecting rooms on either side.
"There's something else... Maybe our late host, was summoned." pause for dramatic effect, "I myself can summon too, the children of chaos look out for me. I've never actually seen someone else here who can do the same, so I've got little reference to how it might work here." for example, could there have been devices that could summon objects based on sound? Perhaps the devices them self were like a teleporter? The possibilities were endless and Lumina was struggling to contain her excitement. This was turning out to be a different kind of fun~

"Mystery"
"Something's not quite right, I sense foul play..."
It was a wonder what Rufus would have said or done, if he'd witnessed the Tonberry's entire course of action. After all, it did have a knife, one that rivaled the finest in the Manor's kitchen. Fortunately, this Tonberry was a bit of a quick draw, with a sleight of hand that concealed much. There was no need to further startle Lumina's... "friends", so it was content to keep it's Jack-o-lantern about. Not finding much initially, it did seem to find a potential clue. Alas, Tonberry wasn't the fastest of monsters. Thus it had to waddle back to Lumina, where it was welcomed with open arms upon jumping up to her lap.
In a very animated, almost humorous moment, the two seemed to 'talk'. Only there was no words, as if this was a silent slapstick in action. At this point, Vincent had slipped out to the other room and Rufus had taken notice of what Tonberry uncovered. "Got it." she spoke finally after the unusual act. Thus both the pink haired young woman turned to Dagger and Rufus near the piano. Particularly Dagger, as they waited for her to pull out whatever it was inside. Only then, did Lumina rise up from the couch and walk over to the fire place with Tonberry cradled in her arms. Looking over the family crest, Lumina crouches slightly in order to study it. It was indeed indented and thus Tonberry with its seeming free hand, would push the sigil in further, to see if there was indeed a hidden entrance.
After all, don't these special rooms, always seem to be around a fireplace~? Lumina would take a moment, anticipating something but if nothing meaningful came, she wouldn't mind too much. There was the matter of the books, which were searched earlier to no avail. Lastly, there was...whatever was hidden in the piano to consider too. If the fireplace wasn't the switch directly. Perhaps the indent was meant to fit an object onto it. That possibility would be something she'd consider too.
"I would advise against moving around too much. Your bodies are also clues, unless you have memory pf what happened earlier?" Lumina sure didn't and it was taking her awhile to come to grips with things. Once she was sufficiently warmed up, her brilliant mind, chaotic as it might seem, would get to work!

"Mystery"
"Something's not quite right, I sense foul play..."
Lumina had been in shock much longer than anticipated. Effectively her judgement was clouded, her mind elsewhere entirely. Once she'd returned to the present situation, instead of passively following instruction, she was in the parlour room. It was easy to notice the oddities about herself, for she'd been passively looking at herself. Ever perplexed about something that her mind couldn't settle on. It seemed to click when she noted her shoes first. "That's not right..." she spoke to herself softly. Then she noticed her skirt and began to frown. "I'm sure I was dressed differently..." she continued.
After all, one was not invited to a manor very often. This was a home of repute, owned by a man of repute. "Except now, he's dead and we're all here..." Lumina reminded herself as she looked her outfit over carefully. Needless to say, this wasn't the outfit she was supposed to be wearing while mingling. She'd chosen a black ball gown, with alternating layers of white, including the bodice. Her shoes should have been glass slippers but these were her normal pumps.
Clearly, whatever happened, she must have changed outfits but... why? Pondering this, she began to channel chaos, in order to summon a monster. The child of chaos that manifested was a Tonberry, to whom had a jack-o-lantern in lieu of the traditional one and a stylistic chef's knife. "I need you to preserve some evidence for me." she'd say in a hushed voice to the Tonberry. Her left hand gestured to her shoes. Then to the skirt. The shoes would be easy as Lumina slowly took them off so that the Tonberry could store them. For the skirt, it expertly cut the bottom portion of her skirt with skilled precision, preserving the glass dust.
Given she was meant to be wearing glass slippers, she briefly pondered if these remnants were from that or somewhere else. One of many considerations, which left Lumina uncharacteristically unaware of her companions. Worse, her attention wasn't much on the parlour room either. The Tonberry seemed to be more on the ball, waddling about examining the area. In turn, this allows Lumina to sit upon one of the seude couches, gazing into the flickering flames of the fireplace. Lightning outside and it's booming companion, thunder; don't seem to bother the enigmatic mogul. Though she is quite mindful of it and the effects upon the manor itself.
Gazing to the side where the piano and thus her group was, she passively began to study them. It seemed from what little she caught subconsciously, that names were being spoken. "My name is Lumina." she'd say before leaning back along the couch in thought. "None of this makes sense to me..." she mused, hopefully she'd get her head together but there was too many red flags to focus.

"What's it like to be up there, high above it all, without a care in the world~?"
With Serah present and witnessing her confession, Lumina had held onto Zell tighter. That was mostly because she didn't want to handle the embarrassment alone. If she could she'd have happily hid behind Zell! That in itself was a sudden twist from wanting to hide behind Serah earlier. Ultimately, Lumina felt much younger than her age and being caught by Serah, felt like being caught by their Mother. The almost divine timing, the knowing smile of delight, made this moment feel surreal. Zell flailing about the way she expected him to prior, was cute. Allowing for Lumina's nerves to settle slowly as Serah assessed the situation.
"Well..." Lumina spoke up finally, feeling shy but overwhelmingly happy all at once. "It's true that my room would be the first place to look but..." her eyes narrowed playfully. "You were supposed to be with Mikael and Annette. I-I was even teasing Zell earlier that he didn't have to stay with me." Lumina decided to confess since the proverbial cat was out of the bag at this point. "So I decided to show off my cabin to him while working. Things just took a turn... No, that's not quite right. More like..." Lumina paused, looking to Zell who was pressed against her shoulder, his face being obscured by her hair slightly. Affectionately, she leaned her head atop his own before continuing, "...Curiosity got the best of Zell and he had to know the truth~" which, now that Lumina thought about it, perhaps that's really what got him to go on that journey.
Giggling nervously, Lumina slowly loosened her hold on Zell. He was already in an extremely compromising position. If her chair weren't stable this would be disastrous. Although he did look cute somewhat, hiding away from Serah, even if inadvertently. "It would have been fun to keep you guessing admittedly~ Oh well!" that avenue for mischief was out the window but soon, Lumina's eyes lit up with a new idea for mischief.
Looking to Zell once more, she smiled sweetly before asking a damning question. "Well, since Serah has heard me confess. Isn't it only fair that we hear Zell's confession too, Serah~?" Misery did love company after all. If they had been alone, she wouldn't have bothered to ask. After all, she was content with the status quo and admittedly. Lumina was much too afraid to be a girlfriend and go out on dates. What did that even mean anyway?! That she had no clue was enough of a deterrence but... hearing how Zell felt was simple enough.

"Liberation of Fate"
"Whether it's Gods or Fate, I'll rebel against them all. We should determine our fate with our own hands..."
Claire gave Serah a wry smirk at the mention of Lightning helping Snow and Serah grow closer too. After all, her actions were meant to separate them in that regard. However, much to Lightning's chagrin, opposition did make them closer. The Farron sisters could be quite stubborn in that way. Knowing that stubbornness, when Serah mentioned bringing a certain someone to meet Lightning; Claire's eyes widened.
"N-no way, definitely not sis. Lightning would never approve!" quite frankly, Claire was not going to go through what Serah did. She was much too rebellious for one. If it was up to Claire, she'd prefer to keep her feelings for Zell a secret for quite some time. Especially from Lightning.
If Claire wasn't blushing already, once Serah mention the effects of love, she turned red and looked to the side. "L-love is troublesome and weird." Claire admitted but upon being thanked, Claire smiled. "I'm sorry to keep you waiting, I promise we're going to catch up. Especially once I take you to Torensten. It's...a lot like Bodhum." though being a big city state, it also had it's own unique charm. More like going out to the big city for university, just like Lightning wanted.
After comforting Serah and facing the truth, a truth that as she stated earlier, was weird and troublesome. Serah made a candid point which caused Claire to frown. As Serah continued though, Claire's frown disappeared, replaced with a thoughtful expression. It was true, she did live her whole life for others. Always wanting to be helpful and doing whatever she could. Claire did feel those frustrations, as well as desire to live her own life; even for a little while. Now that she could, what did her heart say?
"Serah... I don't think Zell likes me in that way." she admitted before sighing. It hurt to even admit that fear but her sister was here to help her. "I'm worried my feelings might have scared him away. I'm... I'm okay with just being friends, really." thus she shook her head.
"Besides, I don't know what it means to be someone's girlfriend or going on dates. I just like being around Zell, it's fun and safe, I guess." that latter part, was weird to admit. Even though she felt hse was much weaker, much more vulnerable than Lightning. Claire felt that if she had to protect herself and others, she could. Thanks to her magic, thanks to Chaos and the friends she could speak to. One such friend slowly began to approach, that of a Tonberry. He was carrying a clipboard that was much too big for him. Upon noticing him, she turned and crouched down. "Ah hello Tonberry, that's for me huh~? Thank you." watching the little Tonberry jump about in order to give Claire the clipboard, she gracefully accepted it and then scooped up the little guy into her arms.
"I'm happy doing what I can for Zell anyway, really. This isn't exactly easy work." she explained gesturing with her eyes to the clipboard.

"What's it like to be up there, high above it all, without a care in the world~?"
In her mind, Lumina screamed yes when Zell spoke love. Though it was likely rhetorical, she nodded her head all the same. There was an immense weight off her shoulders now but dread filled her gut instead. The touch of Zell's hand along her own, felt warmer than it should be. Only for some lingering heat along her fingertips as he pulled her hand away. Time stilled now, as she awaited a gentle rejection. They were friends after all and this was... crazy!
...Rejection never came. Zell was speechless, he said as much. "Was...Serah right?" she couldn't believe it, for that was the one thing she doubted. Maybe that's why her breath was taken when Zell found his words, ones she didn't expect. Zell had learned something about Lumina that she thought was well hidden. Behind tricks, her mischief, a bubbly personality that was positively youthful. All things he'd come to associate about her, in some ways... they were a facade.
Carefully her eyes looked to their joined hands, Zell hadn't let go this whole time. Instead, he pulled her in close for a hug. A soft gasp escaped her lips as she closed her eyes. "Is this...the warmth Sera spoke of?" Lumina wondered as she felt herself melt into feeling secure, safe. That was when a memory returned to Lumina, something that symbolized the loneliness she felt for so long. Her world had been coming to an end, time was almost up. Lightning had made up her mind and Vanille was going to try and perform the Soul Song. It was do or die, rebel against God and try to claim the New World for humanity. Why then, did Lumina cling onto Lightning's arm. Asking her not to go, not to take everyone with her. Forcefully, Lightning had pulled her arm away, causing Lumina to fall. As Lumina watched her back, she said 'Don't leave me alone.'
On cue, Lumina was taken out of her memory, first by Zell's words. "Of course I trust you... I wouldn't have kept offering to take care of you if I didn't--" she felt herself leaning into Zell a bit, her right hand gently resting along his upper back. Before she could resume that feeling of safety and warmth, the second act came to pass. "S-Serah!?"
Lumina froze in place for a moment, beyond her quota of embarrassment and into the negatives. She found herself slowly looking towards the door. "Figures, she gets to sneak around with Snow, I get caught right in the act. Seriously, whose the older sister here...?!" there was no use trying to deny this. So, Lumina decided to embrace Zell tighter. "Humour me, Serah. How much did you see?"

"Radiance"
"What's it like to be up there, high above it all, without a care in the world~?"
The situation took an unexpected twist. Lumina, was certain Zell would flail about and deny her teasing entirely. After all, he was quick to tell Serah that they were just friends. This time, he fired back with something out of left field. Zell asked if Serah was wrong. This caused Lumina to gasp before staring at Zell, clearly speechless. She raised her right index finger when he spoke again, as if wanting to correct him, only for no words to leave her lips.
Instead, Zell moved closer and Lumina leaned back against her chair. Right hand falling limp onto the arm rest as she could feel her cheeks betraying her. Blushing, she found herself pouting in frustration as she resigned herself to think for a moment. His words about not trusting him really stung. As Lumina couldn't answer if that was truly the case or not, she decided to throw her caution to the wind. "Fine." there was a strange undercurrent now. A sensation akin to static electricity only it wasn't tangible in the least. Lumina was feeling rather moody, a torrent of emotions going through her. "Serah's right..." she mumbled only to not be satisfied with her answer.
"It's just..." sighing, Lumina looked down to her lap, staring at the clipboard and feeling absolutely embarrassed. "I've never been in love before, Zell. My childhood was taken from me, a long time ago..." at which she silently mouthed 'by Lightning'. When she looked up to Zell, she focused all the resolve she could muster, stuffing down the instinctual desire to run away from this.
"In my own way, I think I tried to tell you but... You don't want that from me, so why would I force it on you?" Lumina admitted before looking away. "...Isn't that why you ran? I'm sure you could tell, even without Serah's provocation. I won't do anything to make you run again...so... No, I won't say anything." knowing that she contradicted herself a ton, most specifically regarding trusting him. In the end, she realized why she wanted so desperately to avoid this moment.
Lumina would settle for friendship, she'd scarcely had that, something she could identify and hold onto as her own and not Lighting's. Love and the crazy unknown that it represented, was absolutely not worth the risk! Even now, she felt like teleporting away, running to Serah and hiding behind her. "Wait, whose the older sister here?!" Running, was absolutely not an option right now! "I think... I'm being selfish right now." Lumina admitted, swallowing down the last of her instinct to run away. She looked Zell in the eyes, knowing she was probably red from head to toe now, especially considering how close he was. So, instead of running, she gently reached out to him with her left hand. Attempting to caress his right cheek with her hand, before smiling.
"I love you Zell. I want to be with you, no matter where we are. I will do anything in my power to make you happy."

"What's it like to be up there, high above it all, without a care in the world~?"
Lumina did well to withhold her laughter as she watched Zell during her business summary. It wasn't exactly very exciting work and when she mentioned what she was doing previously, he already expressed disinterest. Which made her wonder why the inquiry? Perhaps he was trying to make conversation. That felt... adorable, so was his modest reply as he tried not to offend her. She found herself shaking her head but smiling all the same. Uncertain if it was okay to feel so...happy right now, Lumina began to wonder if she was being too obvious with her feelings. Just to be safe, she decided to reel it in a bit, taking on a neutral expression as she waited for Zell to open up.
Zell's opening statements caught her by surprise, causing her to tilt her head for a moment. "Huh, you feel that way too?" Lumina responded almost immediately. She had been thinking that their dynamic was different now. Initially, she thought it was because Zell wanted to protect her and have an equal footing. Now that he'd brought it up officially, maybe there was something else? Once Zell got to the meat of the issue, Lumina stared at him for a moment. "Oh, that's all?" she couldn't help but ask that, relief coming over before she composed herself.
"Reconnaissance~" was the playful answer she decided to go with, hoping to alleviate the mood with her antics. "It's like I said earlier, I'm not really very good with friendships. The more I know, the easier it is to be comfortable and feel..." she trailed off, as the word she was looking for was on the tip of her tongue. When she couldn't find it, she scrunched her eyebrows, eyes squinting just a bit before she got it. "...like I'm home. I hope that makes sense." she'd give him a moment, in case she needed to elaborate.
Instead, Zell asked some followup questions, which caused her to cradle her right cheek with her right hand, before leaning against her elbow on the arm rest. "How do I feel...?" she didn't need much time to think, "I'm really, really happy and so grateful, more than words can express. You gave me hope and a direction at a time I needed it most. I can't imagine what dark place I'd be in right now if things were different." taking a moment to inhale deeply, her eyelids closed.
"Thanks Zell, you're the best." she spoke softly only for some realization to hit her. "Wait...unless that's not what you mean at all?" at which point her eyelids opened up and she immediately sat up, back straight for a moment. "Don't tell me Serah's teasing got to you?" at which point she couldn't help but lean forward in her chair, with a twinkle in her sea blue eyes and a mischievous grin.
"Setting aside my actions, because I was just happy that you were alive and well, along with the fact that you came back..." her eyes playfully leered now. "You did offer to whisk me away to another world right in front of my sister. Of course she'd take it the wrong way... it was kind of romantic, really." Lumina couldn't help but tease a little, before adding in another suspicious note. "Since you decided to stay with me instead, I can imagine what Serah's thinking right now, can you~?"
