The Dragonblades
To be honest, Caius had thought that the odds of the first date not exploding were slim after what he had said yesterday, much less getting to a second date. But the plans that Lumina had hastily arranged for them the day after still stood, despite it all. And Caius could definitely say a third overall date was not how he had expected this week to end. He hadn’t expected a lot out of these dates that Claire had arranged him on, platonic affairs at best. The thing with Sarah was nice, but he could tell she had no romantic interest, which was fine. He’d made a good friend, and he didn’t expect anymore than that of her. So that had set the standard for him. A standard that Lumina had promptly blown out of the water.
It had seemed casual at first. “Date” only seemed to be said as a joke, even after they did actually fo out. But then Lumina had a magical girl transformation and soon after decided she wanted to give a serious date a try. Unexpected, but fair enough. Then things soon escalated far beyond anything Caius could have imagined.
He was a bit… Sheepish and flustered, he had to admit. Showing up to Lumina’s house after how their relationship had begun and then drastically changed yesterday. What she had told him, and what he had said in kind, had painted over everything to do with the two of them compared to the last time he had been in this house. And her words still rang in his head even as he slowly approached the door. To be frank, he didn’t know what to do with the knowledge that a girl liked him this way. Especially when he felt like he felt something towards Lumina, but didn’t know for sure how to identify it.
Maybe he needed to discuss this with Yuna sometime. She had been wrong before, but maybe now, with things more clear, they could piece this together. But for now, he was on his own to figure things out with Lumina.
It was just lunch, and some business talk, Caius reminded himself. Though he’d also promised to show her something else after food… He just hoped that wasn’t the straw that crumpled this camel. Taking a deep breath, the mercenary knocked on the door. He’d brought flowers again, this time a bouquet specially prepared.

"Road to Dawn"
Light Saga
"Lumina! Are you trying to look like a soldier or someone's girlfriend?!" that was Claire, she wasn't actually yelling per se, merely projecting her voice in clear exasperation.
"I'm...not someone's girlfriend." Lumina protested shyly back. A bit harder to hear from outside their front door given she was speaking rather softly.
"With that attitude, of course you won't be a girlfriend. You have to do your hair nicely. Mog said you did it really well the other day, let me see~"
"That's all he'll be saying about yesterday. Besides, things are different now."
"Just because you're gorgeous and look your age, doesn't mean you shouldn't dress up proper. Now hold still, I'm not as good as Mom. She always knew how to tame our unruly hair. With those fringes, you sure earned your other code name!" Claire's last jab caused Lumina to groan but sure enough, she was at the door, dressed in more date appropriate fashion.
Her immediate thoughts, was a look of surprise and delight that Caius had brought flowers once more. This time the bouquet was specially prepared and it showed. Welcoming him inside, she'd hold out her arms to take the bouquet for a better look. Raising it closer to her face to smell the various scents of the arrangement. Surprisingly? Lumina wasn't wearing her glasses but they were immediately visible on her person. They'd been hooked along a pink sash worn higher up along her torso. The dress she was wearing was a sleeveless sun dress, white in colour and wide along the hips. It was layered and frilly along the bottom though the style was very subdue compared to Lumina's ordinary gothic Lolita style. Honestly it gave her a rather gentle and demure look.
Mog, who was hovering close to Lumina's side wasn't actually sizing Caius up today. He did have an inquisitive expression but when he spoke: "I made sure to check on Lumina most of the night once you brought her home, kupo~ She seems to be doing well but just in case, I'll tag along for today, okay, kupo?" Mog, rather tactful, was referring to no sign of the parasite manifesting. Lumina didn't want to worry Claire, who was ever present and watching from up the stairs. Nor did she want to trouble Serah, who was the reason she had so much free time this week.
"Don't worry, I don't intend to do anything strenuous, Mog. We'll be in the kitchen, could you fetch my case notes for me please?" after Lumina asked, Mog playfully saluted and flew up the stairs. She'd turn towards said stairs to look up to Claire. She had quite a pleased grin on her face as she waved.
"Well, well~ Good to see you again, Mr. Caius. I'd love to stay and catch up but I've got to meet with a new classmate at the University. So, don't mind me, have lots of F-U-N you two~" the moment she called out, she was running down the stairs so that she could get a good look at both of them. She'd then move to the door, only waiting a moment to be polite and spy on the two of them.

The Dragonblades
Caius this time around had picked the outfit that better fit Torensten, to be frank. He’d realized while walking the streets that his outfits while being around Sarah and Lumina had… Stood out, to say the least. They had been closer to Provo and Sonora fashion than Torensten’s. An error of being from the world he’d come from, where those sorts of formals were pretty common amongst the Kingsglaive. It was a newer one, one which he hadn’t used for either date. Though he would likely be using it a lot for meetings in the future… He didn’t know a lot about the different kinds of outfits in Torensten, after all.
Lumina definitely seemed more dressed for a date, however, when she opened the door. Even lacked her glasses, which Caius was suddenly wondering if she even needed. Was this a date? He wasn’t sure, they hadn’t quite called it one. Just Caius coming over to eat and to talk business. Wasn’t that basically what a date was, though? Just hanging out, albeit with romantic intentions? He supposed he could have worn something fancier though. Granted, he wasn’t exactly dressed down either, this was definitely more formal than average peasant garb. He was the leader of the Dragonblades, and even Caius knew that he needed to look the part in case he ever needed to be presented before the King again. So by that logic? He was dressed like he was going to see the King. In his own way.
Caius handed Lumina the bouquet, who seemed delighted at the sight of them. While he had brought some last time, this arrangement was specifically meant to resemble the color of Lumina’s hair, with a few different kinds of flowers with different scents while still keeping the color, instead of the generic first impression arrangement from yesterday. Meaning Caius was going beyond his sense of basic professionalism this time.
Mog insisted that Lumina was fine, seeming to be referring to the parasite. Caius nodded and patted the bob on Mog’s head in thanks. Then there was Claire, who was… Well, Claire. Caius reached over to mess up Claire’s hair the moment she went past him
“We’ll be sure to” Caius remarked then, noting that Claire was doing a poor job of hiding as he turned to Lumina.
“Shall we get down to business, Lumey?”

"Road to Dawn"
Light Saga
Mog simply gave a "oh you" when his pom was touched, gesturing for him to move along. Contrast to Claire, who was positively ecstatic by all this, except for her hair being messed up. She pouted for all of two seconds because what she heard was very exciting! She'd get out a brush from her bag and get her hair back into presentable shape. Eyes darting about to take in as much as she could before speaking.
"You've got a nickname for my 'sis' already~? You even brought flowers, hmm pink, nice choice. So, this is definitely your second date, huh!?" it would be the little gremlin to put such thoughts to bed. As far as the 'expert' was concerned, this was a date, a follow up one.
"I could be a little late--" "Claire." Lumina called her name in a very mature fashion that she'd alluded to the other day. It was enough to make the university student flinch.
"Ahem, on second thought, it's rude to keep people waiting. I'm so happy for you, Mr. Caius~" she'd remark before bolting out the door. Lumina sighed once she did before moving to close the door behind Claire. When she returned to Caius side, she finally spoke up.
"Business sounds good. I'll get the noodles and broth started while we do. Is there any particular point of reference you want to start at, while Mog gets my notes?" from what Lumina could recall, he hadn't seen the co-conspirator. Honestly, she suspected few did given that rare encounter. As well as how quickly she ran after confessing.
"Sorry about Claire by the way. I only told her that you were coming over for lunch. The rest...is her own intuitive conclusions." Lumina blushed faintly before shaking her head. Once they were in the kitchen, she'd grab an apron and put it on before moving about to prepare the ingredients. Taking that extra time to prepare the kitchen for cooking, as well as the bowls and utensils for after the ramen was served, was second nature to Lumina. Part of the chores she used to do, while Serah assisted their Mother with the actual cooking.
Mog came by after Lumina's preparations were complete, floating with book in hand, ready to assist. He made sure to stay away from the sink, countertop, and stove. All this compiled evidence going up in smoke or being soaked and illegible would be very unfortunate.

The Dragonblades
"Miss Farron and I have business to discuss. But I wanted to be a good guest, so I brought flowers" Caius cheeked when Claire insisted that this was indeed their second date. To be honest, considering the flowers that he'd decided to get on a whim and Lumina's wear? It probably was. But he decided to be coy about it with Claire just so she had to fight a bit for her sense of satisfaction about setting the two of them up. Fortunately, Lumina was able to get Claire to move on. She needed to get the last laugh of course, and Caius let out a long sigh once Claire had gone.
With that, Caius found a place to sit where he could still remain near Lumina while she was cooking. It would be rude to talk business from the other room, after all. Lumina asked if he had any point of reference to start from, and apologized for Claire. Basically saying she had not in fact told Claire that this was a date, and it was a product of her own imagination. "If there's any way I can help with the cooking, let me know. I do not wish to impose or be a liability" Caius brought up, first up. However, he had the impression Lumina wanted to do this herself, to ensure the food was exactly the way she wanted it to be. A matter of pride, essentially. But it was still courteous to offer.
"As for business... Tell me what you saw of the co-perpetrator. I did not see her unfortunately, I was too busy trying to get Celes and Faris out" Caius then decided to start with regarding the mansion incident. "Celes being my co-leader with the Dragonblades, and Faris being a... Friend. Sort of."
He was pretty sure Faris still didn't actually like him.

"Road to Dawn"
Light Saga: Prior Encounters
Naturally, Claire looked to Caius with some suspicion. His tone changed, going 'professional' as if she didn't hear that cute nickname earlier. She looked very much like she wanted to stick around for a bit and pester the two of them. Alas, her normally soft spoken, easy going, and sometimes passive twin; was not having such. She did have it in her for one more bit of sass before bolting out and running away to the University~!
"Oh? Business~? Last I checked, courtship wasn't business, Mr. Caius~ It's okay, I won't get in the way of time with your... G-I-R-L-F-R-I-E-N-D!" and thus she was off, not unlike a ninja and boy did she yell out that last word for as many people to hear as she could on the way. There was no doubt that Claire was going to use every opportunity she could get, to "check in" read: spy on her twin and Caius from here on out. Well, at least until her fieldtrip.
Once they were in the kitchen, Caius' intuition about Lumina wanting to do this herself was true. A pride of sorts but more so, she was happy to be able to do something for him. Those were her basic thoughts but she actually took a moment to think when the offer came. "That's actually a good idea and very kind of you to offer. I could use the help since Mog's hands will be full too. Hmm, let's start with the ingredients then. There's different meat portions to cut, as well as slicing these green onions nice and fine. Then I could use your help with measuring some of the water to prepare the broth."
Lumina decided that since he didn't know how to cook but did enjoy instant ramen, this might be a good way to teach him the differences and how to expand on his instant ramen a bit. It was also just nice to be doing something together. If this was chores instead of cooking though? She'd have promptly declined. Chores; such as cleaning and other housework were her thing. Especially as she decorated the house herself! "Do you want an apron, it'd be bad to mess up your nice clothes. Although...now you're certainly on Claire's radar. If I had to guess, she's going to drag me to the Rest, then declare we should go shopping."
A pleasant distraction to bear in mind for the rest of the week, not that Lumina minded. Fortunately, her mindset was shifting to recollecting the Manor incident. When asked to start with Jules de Lune's partner, Lumina nodded. "She's a doctor and was quite intent to preserve her research notes." Lumina's eyes narrowed in thought, mind completely returning to that day. Briefly, her left hand reached for those glasses. She brought them up to eye level and adjusted them before putting them on.
Consciously, she wondered if the Doctor's glasses had inspired her fashion sense? The maturity, the sophistication...it was possible. Snapping her left fingers, she manifests an illusion of the culprit in question. "I'd say she was the brains behind the operation. Let me recollect her words..."
"Poor Jules. Poor, useless Jules. I told him there was a seventy-three percent chance of a time reversal, but he just couldn’t keep his hands to himself. But there’s still data to be collected. So if you wouldn’t mind...running along?" Lumina did her best imitation of the Doctor's voice and given she was wearing her own glasses, it might be convincing.
"Doctor Susan Stein. A partner in my party went after her, I went to make sure she didn't have more test subjects. That whole conspiracy was to attempt a summoning, likely to try and bring offworlders to Zephon for themself. All by using a crystal. Since then, I've been pretty invested." she admits, scoffing as she holds up her left hand to show her crystal ring.
"One other important point, I did manage to get some evidence out of there. Not all of it, went up in flames~" otherwise, could she call herself a good Detective? Of course, all this recollection hit her in a very profound way.
"Oh! That basement, we were there together. I was the one who summoned the monster to break open most of the pods. I also made the teleportation circle to get us out. Sorry I didn't stick around after to make it back through the woods. I had other ideas." waving her left hand, she dismisses the illusion of the doctor, in order to manifest how she appeared during the incident. Easy enough to not recognize her given how much younger she appeared back then. Though likely, summoning monsters and teleporting circles left a strong impression in the mind.
As for Lumina's part, she'd take off the glasses now and rest it on a counter top away from the cooking area she designated.

The Dragonblades
“Keep that up and I might forget to buy that honey garlic next time” Caius joked at Claire before she left and business resumed. He lied of course, he’d bought a new batch soon after for Claire’s next visit. Caius kept a poker face in front of Claire but as soon as he turned to Lumina the fib was pretty clear.
Lumina surprisingly accepted the offer to help with the cooking. Caius had told her his skill was limited so he hoped she’d know to accommodate. With that, he was already up and working by her instructions. As he had done some of this with Serah already, a fair bit of it seemed to come second nature. Like old muscles kicking back in. She also asked if he wanted an apron, to which he accepted. The less he had to deal with, with these clothes, the better. Though he made a face when she mentioned shopping. “Claire might just bankrupt us both after all” the mercenary muttered under his breath. He didn’t know how many more outfits there were in Torensten to pick out. At this rate, the writer might need help with finding reference images here.
Onto business. Lumina’s imitation capabilities let her depict the “brains” of the operation, which did not in fact appear to be Emet Selch. But a woman of which Caius did not recognize. It seemed she had gotten away amongst the chaos and few whom were still around would know to recognize her or where she could have gone. All Caius had to go on was the appearance and voice. Which was still more than he had before.
“Why would someone want to bring offworlders here? Zephon does that enough already” Caius mused aloud at that, lost in thought. Though she brought up that she had in fact been the one summoning monsters, and cast a depiction of how Lumina herself had looked, in her younger state. “Well, I can certainly say I like your new look more” Caius tried to joke, unsure if that would be good or bad to hear. “That was a teleporting spell? A shame I didn’t know. I didn’t trust it, so I started busting holes in the walls to escape with a friend on each shoulder” Caius then admitted as he chewed the inside of his cheek a bit in thought. That teleporting circle definitely would have been easier than barely getting everyone out alive. “I don’t know if you remember. I’m the one who phased through the wall then met up with a redhead with a crowbar.”

"Road to Dawn"
Light Saga: A Moment's Reminiscence
Claire's mischievous response to potentially not getting said honey garlic, was bold and fierce. In essence, just advertising to the world LOUDER that Caius had a girlfriend. There was quite a ways from the Farron house to the University. Lumina, despite blushing couldn't help but laugh. The freedom to run about, laughing and being as mischievous as ever? Maybe the forces that be had done something right after all. Noticing Caius fib efforts fail, she smirked before covering her lips momentarily.
Inside the kitchen then, with the acceptance of help (a surprisingly mature thing to do in spite of her usual approach), Lumina was happy to provide an apron that wasn't cutesy. If she were honest, she'd gotten such for Snow's inevitable arrival but looking Caius over now? "Guess I should buy you your own apron set from now on." this soft spoken admission, already had her crunching numbers so when she heard the idea of Claire bankrupting both of them, Lumina shook her head. "Oh, she can try~" Lumina had already budgeted a fair bit for shopping with Serah to get her ready. A bit more wasn't going to hurt her bank accounts too much...right?
Setting aside their finances for a moment, talk of business had picked up and Caius posed a very interesting question. One Lumina immediately had an answer for. "The way it is right now, Zephon summons us at random and they've very little control over the kinds of people summoned. Studying the process and the unique capabilities we have, is but one application. The other, more nefarious, more practical reason? To control us. An army of Outlander soldiers, who will do their bidding, is very appealing, don't you think?" these dark thoughts were precisely the conclusion she came to back then. The idea of being experimented on in order to become a puppet on someone's strings, stirred something inside Lumina. It was brief, a flash of rebellion as her eyes had shimmered purple just like the other day.
In a blink, it and the cold demeanour were gone and Lumina was as eccentric as usual. She seemed rather proud of herself and her detective skills. There was also something about seeing herself, as she chose to be portrayed during the incident after her magical girl transformation, as it were. "Oh, you do~?" she had a mischievous smirk now. "With or without the glasses?" she leans in playfully, batting her eyelashes for a moment before retracting. With a playful spin she moves to retrieve a skillet, all while dismissing the illusion of her former self.
"Younger, Teenage, Adult... it's still me, underneath it all~ Though my cute charms did help quite a bit back then." whilst she was greasing the skillet in order to give some ingredients a crispier texture once inside the broth, she listened intently at the mention of the teleportation circle and not trusting it. That got her to laugh, "See, now that's a reaction I expect from men concerning my efforts~" she was teasing, though it was true given her other party member's reaction. A fellow businessman who would fit in with the corporatocracy of Sonora in earnest.
"I remember!" her excitement from saying that caused her to turn around and look over her shoulder at Caius. She recalled the moment rather vividly once he'd spoken. "That woman, with the red hair, she left a distinct impression on me. Probably because of the...crowbar?" she sighs now as she sets the heat to low.
"So you really busted holes to get out? I'm glad Serah's not here to hear me confess this but... Her fiancé would have done the same." she groans shaking her head, she could practically see the big lug standing next to Caius with a goofy grin. Worse? She could hear Serah's smug satisfaction in the back of her mind. Mog, that ever loveable double agent was nodding along despite his silent observation.
"Guess the Farron sisters have a type after all, kupo~"

The Dragonblades
Caius had been about to object and say she didn’t have to do that, but the insinuation she fully expected him to be here and helping out more often knocked him off guard in that moment. She really was a bold one, wasn’t she? Making her feelings as clear as day, then confidently stating her plans to accommodate for his being a constant presence at her house. She did not mince words, that one. She claimed though, that Claire could try to bankrupt her, but Caius then remembered that Lumina was quite wealthy. Likely more than capable of handling Claire’s expensive desires. “I do not spend much, besides for very specific things. But Claire’s habits would probably dent my savings pretty quick” Caius admitted with a small, sheepish laugh. Caius had some decent collateral as the leader of a guild that had been requisitioned for jobs by the crown itself here and there after the Kraken incident, and Caius’ biggest personal expenses were related to work travel and Vordun’s care. But he was definitely not Lumina wealthy. A multi-nation business empire? Even this nice place of hers was probably being modest.
But Caius’ expression changed instantly at Lumina’s theory. It made too much sense. And that was deeply concerning. “I’ll pass on your information and theory to my co-leader later. Can I ask you to repeat the appearance and impression later for me to record with a link crystal” he asked then. “I suppose I should ask if you have one, as well. I purchased one because Celes is stationed elsewhere and letters aren’t moving fast enough.”
Was Caius doing the Torensten equivalent of asking Lumina for a phone number? Maybe. Lumina then leaned in to tease about whether he preferred with or without glasses. “Hm?” Caius leaned in a bit then as well, as if to examine her face. The timing coinciding with her motion however brought his face far too close to hers for that brief moment and his nose brushed her own. “I think you look nice either way” he spoke before he went right back to prepping the meal as if nothing had happened.
Lumina remembered the redhead at least, not so much him as far as he could tell though. “Definitely the crowbar” Caius responded offhand, then looking to her when she asked about the wall smashing. “Well, the place was due for remodel anyway if the smell of smoke was any indication” came a touch of humor. “Lives were at stake and I had no time.”
Though he laughed a little at remark about how Serah’s fiance would do the same. “With all the comparisons being made. Are you trying to hand me off to Serah, Lumey?” Caius teased. He doubted that, but he wasn’t letting her off easy. Especially with Mog commenting that the Farron sisters had a type apparently.
“How’s the ramen coming?” then came an innocent question to follow up, as if he hadn’t just tried to fluster her.

"Now that's not right. You're not supposed to throw your life away."

"Road to Dawn"
Light Saga: Two Hearts
Thinking about Claire's habits, was a bit like reminiscing on old times. It's not as if she actually was so crazy about spending. Not with their widowed Mother caring for them. So why was she so confident? "She might if you spoil her. Claire likely has an idea of how much you can spend and therefore knows you can spend accordingly." the situation would be completely different if Caius couldn't afford it. In that way, she'd go to Lumina and turn her into a veritable sugar momma.
The first step to acquiring said sugar momma, was to get her number. After Lumina explained her theory, without needing her notes no less. Caius had asked if she had a Link Crystal. Did she have a Link Crystal? Given the nature of her Torensten business... Well, she stood there, with a mischievous look, extending her right palm before speaking up. "Oh? So we've progressed to the stage where you're comfortable asking me for my number~? I do love making progress." with a flash of light and shadow, her own Link Crystal manifested. Though that's not all she'd do, as she soon extended her left palm and in a similar fashion, manifested her phone.
"I can be quite accessible, see~?" despite her lighthearted quips, having these items were mandatory so she could coordinate with her crew and Lorenzo respectively. Now, as for the reason why he asked to begin with? That was simple enough, "I'm guessing your Co-Lead is at the Provo branch. Letters between the two are pretty slow, unless you pay one of the couriers to use an Airship." as she'd mentioned to Jules' hired mercenary in the past, she was quite familiar.
Dismissing both her communication devices for now, Lumina was happy to veer off into more non-business related shenanigans. Having received an off hand compliment, Lumina felt compelled to know if he liked her with glasses more or without. Caius answer was not unexpected, him leaning so close that their noses touched!? That absolutely was unexpected! He'd so nonchalantly left her there, red as a tomato, with her heart audibly beating. Preparing food without a care in the world, while Lumina was genuinely speechless. Meekly then, a complete 180 to her prior confidence, she went back to preparing the ramen. Getting the dough together, preparing it and rolling the noodles accordingly. The repetitive action was a good way to bring her heart rate back down to something sensible.
"I'd have never guessed you'd resort to that given your composure while we freed the others." lives were genuinely at stake, with the added caution of magic, why not break some more stuff. "I'm glad you made it out fine." though she hoped he'd not take such added risks in the future. Given her comparison of him to Snow, he absolutely would. Still, they did differ in a variety of ways, which she looked to Mog, ready to protest. Only to hear his cheeky remark about handing him over to Serah. It was certainly effective in silencing her for a moment. Her expression shifted into one of deep contemplation before she closed her eyes and smiled.
"She'll just have to wait for her hero to arrive." came Lumina's reply eventually. She was a mix of flustered as well as overly cautious. He did ask her for time after all. So she wasn't trying to press her desire, nor would she give Caius up to Serah of all people."Would you like to put the noodles into the pot~?" strategic sidestep, complete with real sidestep to make room near the stove. Pivot to look towards Mog, floating ever so smugly...
"No Mog, we don't have a shared type. Caius is responsible, considerate, doesn't over promise and certainly doesn't rush into things. Also, he's not a vigilante..." one who caused her trouble during a patrol no less. Quite frankly, in Lumina's mind the two were night and day different. Minus the small observation she pointed out herself, of course.
