The Dragonblade
Caius blinked a few times at Alex’s loud accusations, deadpan staring at him with an expression that made it clear — he had no idea what Alex was talking about. The only guess he had was that Alex was commenting on the shift of his shorts.
“The shorts aren’t my size” he remarked, but the answer was so calm and with a complete and utter poker face that it would be difficult to discern if he was telling the truth or not. In truth, it was a bit of both. The shorts weren’t in his size. But he wasn’t adjusting them because of that. Not entirely anyway. The size issue did contribute to the reason…
But he needed that pocket knife where he could use it if need be.
Speaking of, he could hear chatter outside the wall. Still more clearly than he should. It was beginning to seriously bother him. At the least, Alex remembered what he was talking about. And said the genocidal maniac worked for the Stones. Because of course he did. Alex saw nothing wrong with this, and if there was something wrong, he was overly confident he could just kill Sephiroth.
“And probably destroy more than a few houses and places of business in the process” Caius muttered under his breath, making mental notes to report back to Celes regarding the Stones. Yeah, working with them was definitely off the table. He also didn’t believe a word of Alex’s claim that none were a threat to him. How many “weak men”, as Celes called them, had boasted that claim?
Too many. So he had no reason to take it seriously. He didn’t even take it seriously enough to openly dispute it. Speaking of serious, Alex got serious, somewhat, making accusations of…
To be honest, Caius had no idea what he was talking about. Not one bit. So the mercenary just slid a bit more into the waters.
“I have no knowledge of the terms you employ.”
Words like “kink” didn’t mean anything to him. Though domestic abuse was one he knew. That one was pretty heavy, but he didn’t understand what it related to. “But I think you misunderstood my previous advice. Miss Chere and Miss Yuna are good people. But making an enemy of them, especially when unnecessary, is tactically unwise. Especially Yuna, unless you want your next homewrecker to be Shiva. I have no desire to get between you and a High Summoner.”
He shrugged slightly at that. “If she comes for you because you sabotaged her life-saving efforts at the clinic, you’re on your own.”

Seventy? Only seventy thousand? Hells, my subligar's worth more than that!
Only one thing really stood out to Alex in what Caius had said. He had ignored the muttering, couldn't really make out what he was saying, anyway, so it was unimportant. Rather, it was only when Caius had brought up the two ladies he associated with that Alex went quiet for several moments. "This Yuna can summon Shiva?" Such a person had been in Provo this entire time and he had not noticed? That was... problematic. "I see." He said simply. There was no roaring, raging, or anything like that. He made a mental note to pay a visit to this clinic after this was all said and done. Only prior engagements for Noctis and Prompto kept him here. He needed to determine the nature of this Shiva, was it an Egi? Was it a true Eikon? If the latter, he needed to find a way to dispose of Shiva, and its summoner if it came down to it. Needless to say, considering the context of the situation, he doubt that Dragelion would be more forthcoming with information, or would likely say whatever to keep any interest off this Yuna.
The alternative was violence. It was a possibility that the Warrior of Light would not rule out, considering how highly Caius seemed to regard this Yuna. Alex took a moment to glance at Caius with an appraising eye. Taller, leaner, unarmed capability unknown, but as one of Noctis's Kingsglaives, assuming no unarmed capability would be dangerous. Victory was less than certain in a place that sealed his magic, even if the same applied to Caius. "Most enlightening." He said simply as he rose out of the water. A soak would have been nice, but there were more important things taking his attention, as he ignored the chilly bite. Having already stood, he simply stepped out of the water and began walking back to where he would find his clothes. If Dragelion would preemptively choose violence for Yuna's sake, getting out of the barrier was imperative. "A productive conversation. Thank you." It was again, rather simple, albeit with a sharp edge to it.
He listened intently for the sound of splashing water, anything to indicate movement from Dragelion, but he did turn his head back to the man. "I imagine bathing here is expensive. You should enjoy the treat." After all, it was his lucky day, wasn't it? "I'll be heading back to the Seventh Heaven. Noctis and Prompto should have their comrades returned to them with all haste." Yes, that would be best. Wrap up this prison break for those two, then make a beeline back to Provo to deal with this potential issue. He cursed himself for his blindness on the matter, for allowing the clinic to bolster their forces. That would make this more difficult, even if he had a good idea on how to handle Monori as well. But the existence of Shiva in a summoner's hands was simply too much to let go unchecked. He needed to ascertain the truth of the matter, and deal with it appropriately.

The Dragonblade
Everything had changed the moment he had mentioned that Yuna could summon Shiva. While it had been to ward Alex away from causing them further trouble, it only seemed to cause Alex to take a vested interest in a way that Caius didn't like one bit. Alex had gotten so serious, so short. And so quick to suddenly want to bring an end to this conversation, as though he were in a hurry. More than ever before, even more than when he was yelling at Prompto, Caius was seeing red flags. And the more Alex spoke, the worse it got.
"If you intend to start a fight with Celes and Yuna, I don't care how invincible you think you are. I'm confident in their ability to make you regret trying" Caius decided to just up and say as he rose out of the tub. The sudden biting cold made him grit his teeth, but he didn't care. His objective came first, and nothing would stop him. "But if you do them harm... They're good people. Done more to protect this world's people than anyone. And most importantly..."
Caius didn't hesitate, and the knife he had been hiding was now out and poised in a backwards grip, in case he needed to fight.
"If you do them harm. I don't care who you're associated with -- I will do whatever it takes to protect those I care for. And that includes striking you down if I have to."
His eyes were as piercing as the knife he brandished. The knife itself was deathly sharp, something he had put together personally on the forge. He had learned that a Kingsglaive should never find themselves unarmed, no matter the circumstances.
"And that girl has suffered enough. Let her run her clinic in peace. Those people need her, and she deserves to not have to fight if there isn't a need. She's not like you or me."

Seventy? Only seventy thousand? Hells, my subligar's worth more than that!
Alex had been near the changing room when he heard the splashing of water. He turned around to stare at Caius, analyzing the situation. Caius would have to close the distance with such a knife if he didn't throw it. Unlikely, as the knife provided him a hefty advantage in a fight in their current situation. Alex surmised that Caius would try to bowl him over. Perhaps slit his throat. But the knife was just that. A knife. Small enough to be smuggled in. Sacrificing an arm to keep it lodged in flesh would be... undesirable, but could be worked around. Still, the optimal strategy here was clearly to stall, lie if necessary. The moment he was outside of this place, none of that would matter. So, Alex said simply. "It's in your best interest to refrain." If he were afraid of Caius, there was absolutely no sign of it. However, it would also be wrong to say that he looked disinterested, as nothing could be further from the truth. He looked more unconcerned than anything, as if he had already assessed the situation, and worked out a solution on how to deal with it.
It was a risky gambit, but he motioned Caius to follow him as he got into the changing room and began to dress himself. Keep Dragelion close if need be, but get to an area where he could use magic, or Dragelion couldn't strike without bringing down consequences. It would be hard to explain that away, and Alex was willing to gamble on Caius being unable, or unwilling, to jeopardize his king's mission if push came to shove. And the reality is that as much as the others may have been loathe to admit, they did need him for this. Of course, taunting Caius with such knowledge would be stupid and may simply antagonize him. It'd be like waving a red cape in front of a bull. Pointless. As he slipped on his undergarments and pants, he continued. "Shiva cannot be allowed to roam unchecked." He stated. He looked at the rest of the attire. He was strapped for time, he could make do without the tie or the waistcoat if need be.
One possibility entered his mind as he looked at his shirt, taking it in his hands. Perhaps Caius had been tempered? A ludicrous thought, quickly tossed aside. No, his concern was over Yuna, Shiva did not factor into it. In fact, he recalled Noctis remarking that Shiva had been one of the Astrals, and yet here Caius was, completely uncaring at the possibility of one of his own gods being subjected to danger. No, Caius's will was still his own. But the angle of the Astrals was one worth pursuing as well. "Describe the nature of your Astrals." It was a blunt command. "Yes. It's relevant." He added on preemptively, just to get to the point. To keep Caius talking was to get more time to simply step out onto the street, at which point, it no longer mattered what was said or done.

The Dragonblade
While Caius still had some drink in him, he had weighed the possibilities to the best of his ability.
Noctis would understand. And Prompto had wanted him off the mission altogether. But the truth was, while Caius hadn’t initially pegged Alex as actually dangerous… This had changed things. If Alex was at real threat to suddenly flip and go after their loved ones on a whim, he could no longer be trusted. That would make him a liability on their mission if he was capable of turning on them just like that to suit his own whims.
Would it be harder without him? Yes. But he needed to keep Yuna safe, and an untrustworthy person that could flip would be a problem. Caius would just have to ensure his distraction was as efficient as possible. Did he want to kill Alex? Not really. But it depended on what Alex made him have to do.
“Protecting people, especially those under my roof, is my job” Caius expressed calmly, his expression remaining as piercing as it was. “If you understood that responsibility, maybe Cassandra wouldn’t have left.”
Caius didn’t care if that cut Alex deep or angered him further. To be honest, he would almost prefer if he reverted back to just being annoying. It needed to be said. Alex started asking questions with lengthy answers, and started hastily preparing his exit. And that was what gave it away. He was leading Caius outside. So Alex could use his magic. So with that, Caius withdrew and hid the knife once more. He wouldn’t need it yet. If Alex was preparing for a full scale fight right here, when the fight could still be averted, that may very well have confirmed his suspicions about the man.
Caius changed quickly, but grabbed the whole suit. He had no intentions of fighting in it, but if Alex intended to hear what he had to say, it would force him to stick around. So Caius had the means to take his time. If Alex was planning to charge his magic, he couldn’t do so until they were outside the barrier. If Alex intended to ambush him, Caius was going to be ready for it.
Shiva cannot be allowed to roam unchecked.
Well, that was one way to declare your intentions.
“Watchers, arbiters, guardians of Eos. Who intervene when it is in peril" Caius answered in what was probably shorter than Alex would like. "When need be, they forge a covenant with the King of Lucis to protect the realm."
Caius had weighed the dangers of telling Alex that the King could do the same. He already intended to alert Noctis and Prompto of this encounter, and Alex wasn't stupid enough to try to take on all three of them. Probably. If he was, he'd be soundly defeated.
"Yuna's covenant is similar. Forged to protect. Though Yuna doesn't enjoy fighting, and joined up with us only to aid people" he added once he was finished dressing. He didn't know if stressing Yuna's character and intentions would spare her that fight, but his last beliefs that there was a human being under all Alex was, begged him to try. "If you're so concerned with Shiva making an appearance, then leave her alone."
Caius dried himself off adequately, dressed and headed out. On the way out, the owner would approach. He looked a bit nervous, since the entire building had heard Alex's previous screeching.
"Did-did you enjoy the hot spring, sir?"
Caius turned his gaze to them, making sure Alex was still in view before he would smile slightly.
"I've never had a hot spring bath before, it was very refreshing. I quite like the environment -- though it was strange that I could hear everything our female compatriots were saying in the next room. I don't even know how you can make stone that thin. I may come again, but it would be nice to have a bit more privacy in future."
His gaze briefly flicked to the girls whom had just left their own hot tub, and had heard every word he'd just said. Something was very suspicious about this place, and if he had time, perhaps he would investigate later. But it was best he subtly warn the other patrons something was amiss. Just in case. The reaction of the other patrons to him saying that, however, told him that perhaps there were bigger risks than he had assumed.
"I-I see!" the bathkeeper stammered even harder at that. "You must have some impeccable hearing, sir! There's no such thing as thin stone, haha!"
Caius had already waved and started walking out in the middle of that, not wanting to give Alex any time to get out and prepare his ambush. He was starting to see why they had been giving out free baths to drum up business... Something was wrong here. But for now, he would step out. The moment that he could feel his magic again, he would suddenly change his attire in a flash. Now in his armor, he would pull the hood over his head.
With that, he continued to keep his gaze on Alex.
"I have no desire to fight, or to bring you harm. But if you present yourself as a threat to Yuna, then I have a job to do."

Seventy? Only seventy thousand? Hells, my subligar's worth more than that!
The answer was short, but it allowed for conversation. And that gave Alex ample time to get on his shirt and shoes, but he'd hold off on the waistcoat and tie. Time was of the essence. At least that was the plan. The remark about Cassandra simply didn't register with him. A personal slight. Petty and unnecessary. It had no bearing on the situation. Rather, as the owner approached as they walked out, Alex took the moment to throw on his waistcoat and adjust his tie, letting Caius handle the man. He shared Caius's thoughts. Thin stone? Something was off, but it was irrelevant. He did take the moment to wait. At this point, even if it did turn to violence, he could make his way out easily enough. "Astral, Eikon, Primal. The function is the same in theory. But their existence threatens the planet." He spoke as he walked alongside the taller man. At the very least, he was being more chatty, which was probably what Caius would have preferred, at least. Though he was glad to feel the bristling air of Sonora against him, as he started to feel his magic return to him. Good, if this turned to violence, the outcome would already be decided, then.
He continued on. Perhaps Dragelion could see reason, but he doubted it. "Your magic is from Noctis, so I don't expect you to know or understand. We'll call them Eikons for consistency's sake, but the result is the same; they drain the land around them by simply existing, they corrupt the souls of those around them into lifeless, single minded obedience, they tear the world asunder over petty grudges." And unless Shiva were an Egi, it'd be the same here. And Zephon was not a world that could afford that. This was not Etheirys, where the world could afford to cushion against such blows. Zephon was far more fragile. "If left unchecked, they will suck a world dry like this one, and kill or enslave everyone in it." He continued. "All worlds have a Lifestream. This provides a constant source of aether, and is the way in which all life is reincarnated. Except for Zephon." Well, he assumed that all worlds had a Lifestream. At least all the ones that he'd glanced at and visited, even in memories, all had one, as well as the various Shards.
His pace picked up, as he tried to create some distance between him and Caius. "The aether here is thin, and there is no Lifestream. This is a dead world." It couldn't afford Primals running amok. Whatever had happened to Zephon, the world had no Lifestream, felt hollow, and couldn't fully sustain his abilities. Zephon was simply a branch of a universal tree that had long ago died, and was simply rotting away until it was pruned. A cruel metaphor, but an apt one. A few white wisps flickered and then vanished. The only sign that he had used Loom."I'll make my intentions clear." He would leave no room for misinterpretation, regardless of the consequences. Zephon was not his world, but he would protect it all the same. "I will confront Yuna. If Shiva turns out to be an Egi, I will drop the matter. An Egi is not a threat."
An Egi could only run off of one's personal aether, and only if they had been in touch with the real thing. In truth, though telling Caius was pointless, Caius's run in with Ifrit would have qualified him as a Summoner back on Etheirys. He could use that scar to channel and summon an Egi of Ifrit, if he were properly taught. But that was irrelevant. For now, it looked like violence was inevitable. So be it. He made a note to inflict as little damage as possible. Killing Caius was absolutely unacceptable, as was seriously injuring him. It would be counterproductive, not to mention that simply defending a friend was not worth a death sentence if it could be avoided. "If it is not, I will kill Shiva. If Yuna finds a way to summon her again, I will kill Yuna." And he simply waited for Caius to do his job.

The Dragonblade
Alex started talking again. And had used some kind of spell, Caius noticed, but he wasn't sure what it did. What he did do, however, was adjust his stance to be ready for an attack. This time, Alex talked at length. At the least, Caius somewhat now understood his motivations. They were just, albeit misguided and being handled like... Well, Alex. And there were flaws to his logic, as well.
"I wouldn't say it's dead. Magic is harder to use here in Sonora, but depending on where you are, I've never had access to more magic in my life than I have on Zephon. Just because it lacks a Lifestream, doesn't mean something hasn't taken its place. Magic has to come from somewhere, there's no way it can be as abundant as it is without something being the root" Caius offered the best wisdom he could on the matter. If he could talk this fool out of violence, then he had to try. But he was prepared to do what he had to do if need be.
"I can say one thing. The Shiva that Yuna summoned is different from the one in Eos" the mercenary brought up then, pacing a bit, not letting Alex gain too much distance. Caius could close it in an instant, but he would rather save the magic. "There's enough resemblance to the Shiva I know, but... It's clearly different. I would wager it's different from the one in your world too."
So Alex offered his ultimatum. If it was an egi, he would drop it. If it wasn't, he would kill it. If it returned, he would kill Yuna. Caius felt his temper flare the moment he said he would. Caius sped his walk, headed straight for Alex.
"Time out."
If allowed to close the distance, Caius would roughly grasp Alex's jacket. The kingsglaive's eyes told it -- he was fuming with anger. The shake of his hands said he wanted to punch the stupid self-proclaimed "Hero" square in his stupid face, but considering he hadn't by now, would hopefully tell Alex that Caius didn't intend to. Not yet anyway.
"Are you telling me..." the mercenary's temper began to boil over as his grip tightened and he stared Alex dead in the eyes. His teeth were grit, his eyes were wide and he had taken an expression completely uncharacteristic to the generally stoic Caius. "That you didn't do a SINGLE BIT OF RESEARCH before causing Celes all that sh-t?! Before trying to SABOTAGE A HEALING CLINIC!? ARE YOU THAT STUPID?!"
If Alex hadn't used loom to get away by now, Caius would have taken a deep breath and shoved him away just to keep himself from actually striking him. He had lost his temper once today, and he hadn't had enough time away to prevent it from completely slipping out of control. And this time, there was no Noctis here to help Caius calm down. No Celes, no Yuna, no Lumina. Absolutely nothing to help him re-center. Caius could only work bit by bit to channel his fury into words instead of trying to slug the banjos out of Alex, or worse, gut him like a fish.
"Do you know absolutely NOTHING about us? Were you really just going to storm into a HEALING CLINIC, interrogate and possibly kill an innocent woman over something you don't even know if she knows a thing about? If you had spent FIVE MINUTES looking into us instead of moaning about us, then you'd know none of this would have been necessary! Gods, it's like you just ENJOY hurting people if you can find an excuse for it! Is that it? Is that what you like doing? Finding reasons to hurt people like you did Prompto? Because he didn't bloody deserve it either! He's just a kid, and you went out of your way to hurt him because he wounded your fragile-ass pride! Did you like doing that? Did you get some sick satisfaction out of humiliating him in front of his crush, seeing him run to the bathroom in tears? Did you like seeing your so-called "friend" Noctis want to punch you in the face? Is that what gets your rocks off, Sorel? Making people miserable? Hurting, killing, with whatever excuse you can muck up to justify it in that mush-brained skull of yours?!"
Finally, he began to settle. Caius held his head as that headache had been nursing since Seventh Heaven began to further intensify. Another deep breath, this time to center himself. Nobody was going to help him, he had to settle it himself. He wasn't used to losing his cool like this, he had always been in control of himself. Always been able to restrain.
But today had just been... Hard.
"I'm sorry," he spoke softly. "I didn't... Ahh, gods. I'm not used to this. It's been a day, and I don't think what I was drinking was strong enough."
It clearly wasn't, if he was still in misery like this. He honestly should have just declined the hot spring and kept trying to find somewhere to crash.
"Look. I don't know how many times I have to say it. Protecting these people? It's our job. Know why we get business as mercenaries? Because people know that we're dependable, because when sh!t hits the fan, we're there to protect them with no interest in reward for that side of things. You should know by now what I'm about, and that I would do whatever it took to protect the people here. I was a Kingsglaive. And it's not just me. Celes fought to save her world. Yuna, as innocent and pacifistic as she is, forged that covenant because she was one of the only ones who could protect her world and its people. So many of the ones who have joined our ranks? Are the same. They want what's best for the people here. And me? I'll make damn sure they can live to make that dream come true, doesn't matter who I have to fight or strike down. We're only even a mercenary unit to ensure those people can make a living to pursue those dreams. That's it. That's what we're about."
That last burst of passion finally drained the adrenaline he had left, and Caius' voice began to fall and quieten.
"So if something is at threat to drain this world's aether, or gods forbid could enslave or kill this world's people... Don't you think that would be just as much a concern to us, as it is to you? Do you think Yuna, who I've told you over and over just wants to help people, wouldn't hear you out and if this Shiva is indeed a danger, wouldn't seek to do something about it?"
Caius took a chance to catch his breath. To calm down. To try to compose himself once more. If Alex had his word vomit to get out, this was probably the best time. Afterwards, Caius would decide what he felt was the best course of action.
"After this business we have here is done. I can accompany you to Provo. We can sit down with Yuna and find out what we can. If it's an egi, good enough. If it's not, we'll work together, research this Shiva of hers, and find a solution. Yuna won't stand for the threat of something that could kill or enslave this world. That's not who she is. If she refuses for whatever reason, I know that Celes and I can help to figure out the best way to proceed. Are these terms acceptable?"

Seventy? Only seventy thousand? Hells, my subligar's worth more than that!
When Caius reached out to grab Alex, he would find that his hand just... ghosted through Alex. But it was enough to make him turn around, and he just let Caius unload. He took the time of the rant to prepare and spread his aether through the environment. Time simply gave him further advantage, and he would take it as far as he possibly could. His facial expression budged only slightly to a small frown, and he shoved any personal thoughts and emotions down. Simply losing his cool right back would accomplish nothing. So he stood silently, as he simply allowed Caius to say his piece, his long, time giving piece. This would do, if necessary. But all things ended, and that included Caius's raving, at which Alex seemed to almost dismiss it entirely with a shake of his head. "My many personal failings are irrelevant to the situation." Before adding on, perhaps out of some sense of courtesy. "If you wish to know if I feel guilt and regret over what happened in the bar, the answer is yes. But neither does anything to solve the current problem, and I acknowledge that things are most likely beyond repair as it is." It was regrettable, but in the moment, unimportant. It could be dealt with later.
But, whether he had done research. He would give an honest answer. "But no, I did not look into the clinic as I should have. That is my failing." Perhaps in his haste to simply be Alex, he had neglected to maintain certain standards. Perhaps the reality was that as much as he preferred to be simply Alex, it was a dream that he would have to let go of. He was what he was, and any chance to get away from that may have been doomed from the start. "I would have dealt with this much sooner if I had. A mistake I won't make again, and a correction I will extend to the rest of the Dragonblades." Which brought him to Caius's offer. "No." He stated simply. "A cornered Eikon can and will Temper, mentally enslave, everyone around it. I'm immune. You're not. I don't have access to the method we use to reverse Tempering. The less people I have to mercy kill in such an event, the better." Matoya was nowhere to be found, and he'd need a magic kiln. To be honest, he would much prefer to find Yuna alone, but he had a feeling from Caius's reactions, that it would be all hands on deck when he arrived.
Although, that left other issues, one of which he remembered coming up back in the bar. He looked at Caius. "I also recall you talking about an Adagium and a Parasite. Are there any other monsters in your closet I need to take care of?" It was basically his job at this point, he was realizing, and it was clear that Caius, despite all his bravado on helping others, was clearly doing it to such an extreme that he was ignoring what could be actual problems within the organization. Nevermind the issues from Eos. There were already enough problems from Eos, what with Ardyn, and he didn't need to be dealing with an Adagium, whatever kind of monster that was, on top of that. He also didn't buy that bit about being a mercenary guild with no desire for rewards. That was just completely contradictory. What, were they kept running and paying all their employees by donations? He didn't buy it.

The Dragonblade
He phased right through Alex, and he honestly didn't care. It needed to be said. Alex dismissed most of it, but Caius had gotten it out of his system so it didn't flare him up anymore. Now that he had been able to properly outlet everything, he was calmer and back in control of the situation. Or, at least he was in regards to himself. But the fact Alex was now using magic, and likely preparing an ambush if the aether he could feel beginning to build was any indication, that was a problem. His gaze moved around briefly before fixing to a point that he kept note of for later. He knew he'd likely need to utilize that backup plan soon.
"You can put on this act all you want. You're still being foolish" Caius admonished him, kicking the knife from within a compartment in his boot and catching it between his fingers. While he couldn't fully plan until he saw what Alex intended, he could prepare for possibilities. "You have no experience with Yuna. Or you'd know there hasn't been a single act of tempering. Despite there being situations where if that option were available, it would have been deemed necessary by an Eikon to use. With a very strong risk that Yuna could be killed if they didn't. But none of our enemies ever flipped sides like that. There were never stories of the Astrals doing that either. Because they're not your Eikons."
Because they were from a completely different world from Alex's. Which despite trying to act like he was a god, still wasn't getting through his thick skull apparently.
"You will not go near her without an escort. You've proven I can't trust your judgement on the matter" was his final word on that. "Adagium and its associated scourge is Eos business. But considering you can't work with or treat others like human beings, only inferiors, I have no reason to tell you a damn thing. So if you're going to ambush me, just get it over with."
He held the blade in a reverse grip once more.
"I'm not afraid to die for the people I care about."

Seventy? Only seventy thousand? Hells, my subligar's worth more than that!
Alex let Caius say his piece, and then shook his head with a scowl. "You're an idiot." He said simply. He looked at the knife. A quick thunder spell should do if it came to it. But well, he wasn't the one itching for a fight. He was merely preparing to defend himself, with as much of an advantage as he could muster to keep the damage from getting out of control. "Only you have brandished weaponry. Only you have threatened my life. I see others as inferior as much as you live for nothing but battle and blood." He'd let the man in front of him work through that remark on his own. No doubt he'd take it as some harebrained confession if the way he'd been acting had been any indication. So be it. "But as you can't trust my judgment, I refuse to trust yours. I will only be satisfied when I've seen it myself." He dismissed the assurances that there was nothing wrong. No, for this, he would not be satisfied until he could verify such a thing himself. If he had ever done otherwise, then Alexander, the Primal that is, would've bled his world dry ages ago.
Still, Caius refused to budge, and fair, he could understand the why at least. Alex crossed his arms. "But fine. Drown in your ideals, then. May whatever happens be upon your head." If the entirety of the Dragonblades were to be tempered, then he would simply wipe them out as he had told Celes he could. Whatever problems this Adagium caused, Alex would just consider it to be Caius's fault. He exhaled through his nose, nonetheless. "Your best option is Cassandra." A fool's suggestion, but one nonetheless. Logically, it made perfect sense. "If you need an escort, send her. She's immune, just as I am." The problem was if he had to guess, Cassandra had joined up with them partially to get away from all the drama that came with being around Alex. If she knew that the Dragonblades heartily leapt into much of the same, "But if I know her, she won't come." She'd simply take the dog and run for the hills.
He sighed again. There wasn't even a guarantee Yuna would be killed. This could all be an Egi and thus completely unnecessary. And here Caius was trying to get into a fight. That they could just handle this without a care in the world. At times it was like looking at himself years in the past, and he despised it. Too much damage had been done from him treating it all like some grand adventure. That was all he had wanted. An adventure for the ages. Here was Caius, doing the same. He supposed there was no point. Sooner or later, Caius would get pushed in. Hremit would die and the Dragonblades would get framed, or he'd watch Celes die in his arms, or he'd give someone another chance only for it to bite him in the ass. It'd be something. Again and again and again. So, Alex simply pointed at Caius. "Your next line is 'then I'll come myself.'" He remarked in a weary tone. And he left it at that. Because of course Caius would just volunteer himself.
