She'd heard plenty about this city on the way here, but now that she was walking the streets it was easy to see that it lived up to the hype. Torensten was bustling and full of energy--it was really working at brightening her spirits from the dull endlessness of the dirt roads she'd taken to get here.
But boring was better than treacherous. Iris had been lucky enough to score a ride with another group of travelers that were headed this same way. She'd offered up a few gil that she'd had on her and they'd let her tag along. A couple of the warrior types in the group fought off a few monsters on the way, and soon enough they were here.
It was actually sort of a relief to see so much of the unknown--all the new people and things and shops. This whole world was new to her, and Iris was beginning to find a weird comfort in all of the learning she was doing, focusing on remembering people's faces, directions, shop names, produce, street names, all that jazz. It kept her mind busy.
And she was thrilled to finally come across an inn that one of the others had mentioned would let her stay despite being a known dimensional traveler. Not everybody had been receptive to her kind so far...
Iris looked down at the coins in her hand and looked again at the sign near the door, standing a bit aloof near the center of the street. Did she even have enough for this place? A single night was four hundred and she had... ouch. Half that.
"Just my luck," she said, huffing a bit of air in a sigh out her nose. Maybe there was someplace cheaper nearby?

The Dragonblades
"Try the one down the street. It's not upscale, but it doesn't have any bedbugs so it'll do" sounded out in a soft tone behind Iris as the figure who had spoken had just finished peering over her shoulder. Her groaning had caught his attention, and seeing the coins in her hand made it pretty clear what was going on. He just hoped she wouldn't be too sore about his deciding to interject. The figure behind her stood at about 6'5, with long blonde hair tied back, looked to be about in his early 20s. Instead of the armor that many of the warriors in Torensten wore though, Caius was garbed in a buttoned up vest with sleeves, and it looked relatively new. He hadn't intended to go clothes shopping again, but as Claire pointed out, the garb he'd chosen before looked nice yet didn't exactly fit into Torensten. Which he didn't care about at first, he had found it in Provo and it looked nice, but she did imply there'd be staring, so... Considering she had been here far less than he had, that was funny to think he'd hear it from her, and yet...
Regardless, this tirade about clothing does hold reason -- Caius had been here long enough to be able to tell when one's garb stuck out as from not of this area. And this girl looked like she had just walked out of Sonora. Well, in particular it almost looked like what some would wear in Lucis, but that wasn't too far from Sonoran fashion either.
It was that fashion that had led Caius to peer over her shoulder in the first place when he'd heard her grumbling. She had done so in the middle of the street when he was passing by, after all.
Her obvious sour spirit attracted the attention of someone else in the street. But it wasn't a complaint she heard, it was a tip to check the place down the street instead. Iris turned her head halfway over her shoulder before pocketing her money again. "Oh? I will, thanks!" She forced a quick smile, though she did wonder what the name of the place was that she was supposed to look for. Maybe it'd be easy to spot if it was the only building like it?
The stranger's guess was right, though. Iris grinned sheepishly. "It's that obvious, huh?" She was definitely not from around here and Eos felt like it was a million miles away. Maybe it really was? She still didn't understand how things had twisted so weirdly to get her here.
"Are you the unofficial welcome wagon for people like me?" she asked, turning fully to face the man, now. It was a friendly jest but the question was legit. Iris looked young, and she supposed she was, but most people didn't pay her much attention unless she was causing a scene. So far she'd only done that twice, and the first time hadn't even been her fault.

The Dragonblades
The blonde would turn and do his best to point Iris towards where he was referring to, figuring that just saying "down the street" wouldn't suffice. "It's called the Quester's Rest. It's a smaller, quaint place. Primarily meant for travelers to rest their heads for a night before heading out into the world again. By what I've been told, it's small but homey" he did his best to explain, trying to recall his own experiences with the place in the years prior to his starting the Dragonblades. He hadn't needed an inn in town for some time now, not since the Wyvern's Rest had provided him a home in Torensten whenever he visited.
When the girl turned to face him, though, he could almost swear he had seen her before. Nobody that he had ever actually met or spoken to, mind you. But he had seen someone in passing who she seemed to resemble, unless his garbled memories were messing with him again -- the Daemon Slayer, Iris. The younger sister of Gladiolus Amacita whom belonged to the retinue of the King of Lucis. She had apparently been a daemon-killing fiend, capable of taking on scores of those things by themselves. Then again, this girl was far younger than the woman he had met. Caius had been a child then, but he remembered her being an adult...
And yet, Noctis and Prompto were both a decade younger than the counterparts he had met in his own timeline.
"The unusual attire, the look on your face like you have no idea where you're going? You tell me" Caius cheeked back with a small smile when she asked just how obvious it was that she was an outsider. "It reminds me of what you'd see in Sonora, or even my own homeland" he remarked, though he laughed a bit at her next question. "You could say that. People drop into Torensten from nowhere with eyes just like yours every so often. I used to be one of them" Caius admitted as he gently extended a hand. "Caius."
Maybe the look on her face spoke for her, because the stranger ended up elaborating about the inn. Quester's Rest, was it? With a name now in her head, she brightened a little. "Small but homey" sounded just fine to her. "Sweet."
His comments on her outfit didn't sit straight with her, though. What was so "unusual" about her clothes? This was the height of fashion in Eos! Still, she was a random person on the street and she didn't want to be rude to someone who'd just helped her out.
He introduced himself as Caius and Iris took his hand in greeting. "I'm Iris," she said with a small smile. "It sounds like you've seen others in my boat, who got pulled here from, well, wherever they're from. And you got pulled in too? Where's your homeland? I came from Eos."

The Dragonblades
It really was her.
Iris from Eos. It was too much to be just a coincidence. Considering how old Noctis and Prompto seemed to be compared to the incarnations he knew... Yeah, her age roughly lined up. It was weird though. The Iris he had seen in passing and in videos was an adult woman, older than he had been. She had been striking and confident, a daemon-slaying fiend that served as a reminder that he needed to continue to get stronger in order to survive. This young woman though, was clearly still a child. Younger than Caius had been by the time he had become a Kingsglaive. It was a strange thing to think about, and yet...
"Iris Amacita, from Lucis, if I was to wager a guess?" Caius brought up then, deciding to just say screw it and see if his suspicions were correct. "I was a Kingsglaive in Lucis. I have been here for a few years now, mainly working as a mercenary for the Dragonblades."
And odds were he was going to have to explain the timeline shenanigans to her at some point. Though for now, he supposed briefing her on the status of her brother was more important.
Iris stared, clearly surprised by the fact he knew her name. "Y-Yeah," she said, her expression moving away from confusion and right into recognition when Caius mentioned being a glaive. If he wasn't lying, then it was no wonder he already knew her. But it wasn't as though she knew all the glaives on a first-name basis.
"You've been here for years?" she said, her brow shooting up. So...had this world-warp thing been happening that long? Or longer? But she'd only just made it here. Oh, the time mechanics of her journey were already getting weird.
"So, if you're a glaive, then... If you don't mind me asking, have you met a guy named Gladio in this world? He's my brother. I'm wondering if he got torn away from home, too. Also, what are the Dragonblades?"

The Dragonblades
Seems the glaive was right on the money. Iris Amacita, the Daemon Slayer. Except as a child, it seemed. Likely from before the Era of Darkness began. This was wild, wasn't it? Sure, he had never actually spoken much with the woman. But this whole thing was just absolutely bizarre to behold considering the era that Caius had grown up in. First he had been older than the Caius and Prompto who had ended up here, then the Cindy, and now Iris. All these people that Caius had heard about in those hunting tales while trying to survive the daemons, all these heroes that he had watched from a distance when he became a Kingsglaive, fighting to save Lucis. It was like he had been sent back in time to a period where all of these people were in their youth. And now he was the old one. Talk about bizarre.
At least any confusion on her part was cleared up when he explained that he was a Kingsglaive. Then she asked about the bit about his being here for years, and he nodded his head at that. "Three or four, give or take" he answered, knowing it would likely be a shock if she had just gotten here. That was going to be a doozy. Better hope she was prepared for the long haul. Then came more questions.
"The Dragonblades are a group of mercenaries here in Torensten who specialize in jobs centric to helping people. Monster hunting, dealing with bandits, anything that causes people trouble. They also step in when monsters attack Torensten. Which is more often than we would like" Caius explained that part in short, before he took a deep breath as he tried to figure out how to explain the next one.
"As for your brother..." he began, lowering his voice. "That's... A bit more complicated. I don't know him per se, but I know where he is if Prince Noctis is to be believed. Do you mind if we take a walk? It's, well, yeah. Complicated."
So the Dragonblades were mercenaries. They sounded like a good bunch. And they were probably pretty well known if they really did all of what Caius described. Mercenaries also tended to know the land better than most. Maybe it was a small blessing she'd run into one?
The explanation about her brother got a brief look of disbelief from the brunette. "The prince is here, too!?" she just about yelled, quickly covering her mouth with her hands. Oh no, if Prince Noctis had been dragged along, what did that say about other royalty from back home? And-- "Oh, so Gladio really did make it here, too? That's...an odd relief." It would have made her feel worse being away from him in some foreign land. At least, since they both got time-space abducted, they still had one another to rely on.
But the word "complicated" clung to her stomach like cement, dragging down any excitement she might have had at the news and instead making her dread whatever words next came out of Caius's mouth. "Complicated" was never a good thing.
"Er, yeah. We can take a walk. What happened?" Her voice was more meek than she would've liked. But now she was worried about what the others might have stumbled into being here too. She hoped they weren't in danger. Or worse.

The Dragonblades
Iris was very... Vocal, about the Noctis revelation. More vocal than her brother being here, even. Odd.
Caius wasn't very adept at recognizing the meaning of these things.
Oh right. She didn't know that Noctis was here too. Yeah, Caius had found himself with far more to explain than he had hoped. But he supposed he should have seen this coming considering he was the one dropping bombs on the now much-younger daemon slayer Iris. Sheesh, what had he gotten himself into? Well, he supposed it was better to get her into the loop and perhaps reunite her with her group. Though he was starting to question whether he should unveil all the details about her brother. He would have to now, but was it the right thing to do? Knowing that it could lead her into danger?
Caius knew that he couldn't withhold it forever, however. The best thing to do was hope that Noctis could take her, and keep her out of trouble until she could be reunited with her brother. When were they doing that whole prison break thing anyway?
A walk. It was best to walk and talk on this, yes. While they were in Torensten and far and away from the spies of Sonora. One never knew where they were lurking. Caius began his stride, ensuring that Iris was able to keep up before deciding on a speed. "Your brother and Ignis both wound up in Sonora, a frozen country to the north. Bloody cruel place, that is. There's a reason I'm here instead of wearing attire and utilizing tools more familiar to a Lucian. I don't know how exactly, but the two of them have landed themselves in some sort of high-security Sonoran prison. Likely one that is disabling their magic, if I was to wager a guess" came the revelation as Caius decided to just peel off the bad band-aid and get it over with.
"His... Highness, and Prompto are still... Well. Figuring out how to proceed on that matter" Caius brought up after that, trying to word it a certain way in a lower tone that didn't give away their intentions so easily to an eavesdropper. "I imagine they're in Sonora right now. It's quite far away, however. But I can get a message out to them about your being here if you'd like. Maybe they can arrange a meeting."
