"A Moment of Clarity"
"I can't put my finger on it..."
Lumina couldn't help but chuckle dryly at first, then full blown youthful giggle fit. Honestly, she hadn't really been feeling herself much as of late. With but a simple bit of humour and daresay a...'compliment', she felt rather refreshed. "Here I am laughing about it but I used to be able to look a bit older still. No wonder no one believes we're the older sisters, well it's fine. In Zephon, as it is, this paradox makes sense to people around us. Serah's a teacher, pinning for her hero to come to join us, in time. We're just the little angels on either of her shoulders." to which, well one of the two "twins" was most certainly a little devil, dealer's choice as to which.
After she had explained her circumstances, Lumina was pleasantly surprised how well Caius had understood. He admitted it wasn't exactly the same but she shook her head. "No situation can really be a hundred percent match but it's more than close enough for our needs. My heart reaches out to you, that whole situation...I understand. My world wasn't in a good state by the time I gained autonomy. I'm more surprised at just how similar our circumstances are." perhaps their worlds were in a similar system, not so far from one another. This really made her think and she felt better, probably because she wasn't alone.
"As for Claire being...Claire, I've honestly grown to appreciate her antics. That part of her that urged you to be here, is the part of us that I represent. Seeing it missing, stripped away and discarded...being that part was was cast aside..." Lumina shook her head once more.
"Claire is Claire, it's nice to see. Even if I get swept up in her antics more than I should. I much prefer this than the alternative." to which she laughed but it was a nervous one, for she'd started to feel a lot like that alternative she warned against. A cruel twist of fate or an ironic one, Lumina wasn't sure which. So she'd put it aside as she had questions to ask, ones that required wisdom from someone that had a bit more life experience inspite of their age difference.
"...Doesn't that freedom of choice make you feel lost, at all? After just surviving and following orders, not having that guidance or purpose. For me, it feels like being put in a sandbox and told to make something. Make...what, exactly?" hopefully hearing some answers would relieve the anxiety that built up and set her in some direction, particularly one of her own making.

The Dragonblades
By how she had been described, Lumina had seemed like a mischievous, impish bundle of self confidence. But there seemed to be some insecurity in the idea that she had once been able to look even older than she did. “If it helps any. I could tell right away you were an adult, just looking at you. You carry yourself a certain way, and I suppose the glasses help” he brought up, doing his best. He just hoped the way it was worded didn’t offend. “You have your own unique charms too. Something tells me you didn’t need your sister setting you up in order to gain your fair share of dates” came an actual, honest to goodness tease. Even if Caius didn’t fully get what these words could imply, she seemed to respond well so far and he did hops to raise her spirits if at all possible.
“I have heard of some strong magicks here in Torensten. Perhaps if that is your desire, something in this city could return you to an older form? If you’re really that intent on calling Claire the little sister, I mean” he cracked with a cheeky smile in kind. She talked about Claire a bit more and what she had lost, it was clear that in the future, Claire had gone through much. As had Lumina. “Now it seems Zephon has seen it fit to grant a second chance to you both. Just as it has for me” he spoke softly. “I know it’s easy to think about the past often. But I hope you can focus more on the here and now. And the life you can now live.”
She asked a question, and Caius smiled slightly. “Of course I’ve felt this way. So I did just that. I built up the Dragonblades” he answered. “I’ve carved out my own happy place. Maybe you just need to do the same?”

"A Moment of Clarity"
"I can't put my finger on it..."
At the mention of her glasses, she couldn't help but adjust them playfully and give a warm smile eyes closed momentarily. "You raise a good point but...Initiative or in my case, the lack of it; is to blame." Lumina admits before resting a hand to her forehead in mild embarrassment. Said hand soon moved to her chin in thought at the mention of magic to make one older, before she shook her head, her sea blue eyes twinkling.
"I'll probably age as Claire does and I'm not in a rush to get back to 'normal'. There's something to be said about regaining some youth. So, I'll settle with being older in subtle ways, like this." with a cat like grin, she rested her hands on her hips for a moment. The mention of focusing on the here and now really reminded her of someone close to them. When he elaborated on her question, Lumina was sure of it.
"You know...your words remind me of Serah's thoughts on the matter. Which gets me thinking about our Mother. Yes, this is just how she'd want it, except I'm sure she'd love to be with us, along with our Father." Lumina begins, feeling a bit silly yet grateful for the direction. Most likely, she just needed to hear it from someone else.
"I did start a few things but the motives were different. Doing it solely for myself...that's new to me but I could. Hmm...well, in the spirit of new and finding one's direction, let's go somewhere."

The Dragonblades
A lack of initiative, and being just fine with her predicament. That was fair, and Caius simply shrugged at that, not really finding a reason to protest. "It's absolutely possible that if you had the ability to shift your form, if I'm understanding how your abilities work... Then it may just come back to you" Caius brought up at that, flashing a gentle smile to try and reassure Lumina. "This world... It's strange. For some, when they come here, this world takes a toll. Sometimes it's your abilities, or others even your memories. For me, it was my memories" he expressed, a soft frown slowly forming in place of the smile that had been there before. "My childhood completely disappeared, leaving nothing but the cold, hard reality of what my world had become that I had been forced to endure alone. And the sense of duty that later becoming part of the Kingsglaive brought me."
He tried to at least bring back the smile, bit by bit, as he recalled fonder times now that he had them once more. "Over time, they came back. And I feel somewhat like myself again. So I wouldn't give up on the idea just yet" Caius remarked. Though she didn't seem to mind that she looked younger. Caius didn't quite understand the appeal, but if it made her happy then he supposed that was fine. "If that's what you prefer, then I guess you win no matter what happens" he responded with a casual shrug. She talked about how his thoughts mirrored Serah's. And how they wished their parents were with them.
"I miss my family as well" Caius spoke softly, his smile gone bittersweet. "There's not much I wouldn't give to have them here with me in this new world. My parents, and my two siblings."
Though all of a sudden, Lumina wanted to go somewhere. Caius tilted his head curiously at that. "I am good with that. But where to?"

"A Moment of Clarity"
"I can't put my finger on it..."
"Come back...huh? I hadn't considered that. My ability to shapeshift was tied to deceiving my other self. Now that other half is too young and not jaded, so that trick won't work like before. I guess, eventually, with some time, it could come back if I change my thinking." Lumina concedes, a spark of hope in that regard before her eyes twinkled behind those clear lenses. It left a growing smile as he continued.
"...You too, huh? I only regained my memories...a bit before Claire arrived, yet I lost some memories from that time too. Memories of...someone." she hummed, eyebrows furrowing as she twitched only to exhale in defeat. Recollection was a futile effort, a lesson she should have learned from her arrival.
In regards to not giving up hope, she nods though remains cautious, given her memory experiences thus far. "Ah...I don't actually win no matter what. There are times where it's a net loss for me. Like doing my business relations and being undermined. There's also the underlying problems of dating at present. Being vastly older than prospects, yet appearing younger than said prospects..." was essentially double jeopardy. Though she doesn't finish her thoughts, merely hand waving it in fervent dismissal of her woes.
"Hmm..." where to was the question, to which... "Legends Square seems good. Let me just make an adjustment." Lumina states and with the snap of her fingers, she leverages her magic to envelop herself in an illusion. One in which made her a bit taller and look like the adult she actually was.
"...It's not my shapeshifting ability but this will do. A date is all about keeping up appearances, anyway~" Lumina remarks with a satisfied tone. "We should be back before Mog's finished with the food." looking over her shoulder for a moment, as if gazing out to where Mog was, left Lumina silent for a moment.
"While we make our way, why don't you tell me about your family. You know a lot about mines at present."

The Dragonblades
Deceiving her older self? Did she mean Claire? Though Claire was only 15, even if Lightning had been older. How did any of that work? Why did she want to deceive Claire? Serah and also Claire had forgotten some bits of this puzzle, and Caius looked to her with a quirked brow of suspicion when she stated this. Regardless, it seemed she was working with them for now. So he didn't need to get all protective just yet. She then conceded that she had lost some memories, before bringing up something that Caius had known before.
"Your sisters told me" Caius spoke up then, his expression solemn. "Someone special that you met here was returned to their own world without you. And now you can hardly remember but a trace of their existing at all. Not their name, hardly even their face. Just the idea they existed and even that's faint, leaving naught but an empty hole" he echoed, reflecting on how he had felt in her shoes. "I've been here long enough to lose several. But there was one I had a... Special connection with, that disappeared. You have my condolences."
She went on to talk about the issues with her business and her dating life, which... Caius had put thought into, but really didn't know how to bring up in a natural way. Especially when he didn't know much about dating himself. However he understood that generally, an adult dating a child was wrong, and... Well, no bones about it. Lumina resembled a child. She couldn't date anyone her own age as it was because she was already hundreds of years old, and yet other adults wouldn't think she was anything more than a kid by her appearance. Which explained the attempt to assuage the issue with glasses and makeup.
"Ah that's..." Caius' breath hitched as she brought up Legends Square. "That's fine." It wasn't a bad place at all. It was just... They'd just unveiled that stupid statue recently. Did a whole unveiling ceremony and everything. Caius wasn't there, of course. He'd been off on a job at the time. Scheduling conflicts and all that. Definitely not on purpose and not because he didn't want to stand in front of a crowd again. While Claire had probably told Lumina he was one of the Dragonblades' leaders already, hanging out with someone new with that statue staring at him was... Well, intimidating. But he was going to have to make peace with that being there eventually. But what came next was far from what he had been expecting. Her "adjustment".
"Oh."
Caius scratched his head, bewildered at the transformation. Just like that, Lumina had changed form to a woman more his own age. "Wasn't her shapeshifting" she said, and Caius was so busy trying to connect the ramifications of that that he almost didn't catch her saying something was all about keeping appearances.
Wait, what.
Now this was a date? For real? Caius took a deep breath as he tried to catch up with the sudden developments in all of this. Apparently she was able to conjure something that resembled an adult body. But if it wasn't shapeshifting...
Curiously, Caius moved to tap the top of Lumina's head, just to see if his hand would phase through it. Regardless of the result however, Lumina had after all asked for him to regale her on his family. Since he knew all about hers, it seemed fair. Caius shrugged, before opening the door for her once she was ready. "Well, we're certainly not anywhere near as interesting as yours. That's for sure. My family owned a chocobo farm" Caius responded at that. He did miss that farm.

"A Moment of Clarity"
"I can't put my finger on it..."
It was one thing to tell that story herself, it was another that her sisters told it. Leaving Lumina's cheeks the colour of her hair. There might not have been much sense crying over spilt milk but the vulnerability of it all, left her a tad exasperated. Misery did love company and in having that connection, the embarrassment would come to pass, leaving but warmth to her cheeks.
With her suggestion meeting approval, though slightly tepid, it left Lumina to wonder what ailed him? While it wasn't big enough to give her pause, she felt a story was behind such. Just waiting to be seen with her own eyes upon arrival. She hadn't been there in quite some time, so she hadn't seen the statue. Naturally, with Claire's almost boasting of Caius' achievements, she did know a rudimentary profile about him. Enough to make sure her younger self hadn't latched onto anyone troublesome. Such protectiveness just seemed to make her... whole, instead of a fragment of a person also named Claire.
At least she wasn't distracted or bewildered. Her little 'trick' seemed to solve her problems but it did require finesse. One that wasn't so easily undone with some clever reaction. She skillfully adjusted her height by standing on the tip of her toes about. This would ease any brief disturbance in the illusion. Further, she'd just offset his mind a bit with something... provocative, "Oh my, is this something you do with Claire or do I get a level of intimacy she doesn't~?" yep that seed should do it's part.
Leaving Claire to enjoy the first fact revealed about Caius' own family. "I imagine that could be quite chaotic but Chocobo are so much fun. It'd be nice to ride one, preferably a white Chocobo." she admits, voice now reflective of her age. It sounded weird to her, softness where she was ordinarily higher pitched and chipper. A bit of depth that left certain intonations more husky than cute. Yep, she'd done it, effectively becoming Lightning in all but name. Leaving her with a bevy of mixed feelings!
...On the bright side, it wasn't quite one to one. There were small, personal changes. A lack of the toned physique acquired by rigorous training, the lack of the sharp gaze and rigid expressions. Much longer hair with more volume, with the fashionable glasses offsetting the rest of her image. She certainly looked like the actual teacher in the family now. Adjusting her glasses, she'd head through the door, mouthing a 'thank you'. Though she'd be sure to lock up once Caius had come though.
Holding her right hand out expectantly, Lumina silently offered to hold hands with a twinkle of amusement in her eyes. "Please continue~" she'd note, as she was excited to hear more about his family as they made their way.

The Dragonblades
Lumina seemed surprised that Caius knew. He responded with a sympathetic smile. He hoped she didn’t mind that he knew, and would maybe take some comfort in the fact that he did understand. He did not understand romantic bonds as well as others, and he did not know if his bond with that person he had lost was romantic in nature. But what he did know was that he had valued and cherished this person. And now they were gone, leaving nothing behind but the faintest memories, doomed to slowly fade until naught remained but an empty void where their presence had once been. This world, in many ways, was just as cruel as it was wonderful.
Lumina shifted a bit when Caius tested the illusion, before making an allusion that while Caius did not entirely see proactivity in, at least recognized that sort of line from the books he’d read. “Yes” was the only verbal response Caius gave, flashing an amused smile as he gave no further context. Except, of course, to ruffle and mess up her hair a little just to see if it would actually move and become imperfected by the movement of his hand.
As Lumina spoke next, Caius noted that her voice had changed. Was this part of her attempt to seem more her own age? “It always was fun. I learned to ride when I was young. I find more comfort riding an animal than I do operating a vehicle, though I do not know if your world had both or not. But an animal provides a comforting presence once you have grown to understand one another” Caius mused aloud.
Lumina had held out her hand. Not recognizing her intentions, Caius saw it instead as an outreached arm, and moved to loop her arm with his own. This seemed to be a custom for some, or just for navigating Torensten’s very crowded streets in cases it was necessary. He knew that much. However, while he had seen people holding hands, he had gained the impression from body language that this was something exhibited as custom by romantic partners, or a parent with child. Thus, he had incorrectly guessed Lumina’s desire. She still got an arm though.
“We had a few colors, if I recall right. I believe white ones were quite rare, however. I was hoping to help with catching more wild ones when things… Well, when they changed. But while my dad was really dedicated to his work and the chocobos, mom really liked to garden.”
Should he ask her more about her past life or would that be weird considering what he could gather from her being made of Claire, sort of?

"A Moment of Clarity"
"I can't put my finger on it..."
The best illusions were grounded in reality, so messing with her hair worked because it was her actual hair style and all. The reaction he garnered from her stemmed from his own response. One that lacked needed context which left her wanting more, yet strangely satisfied to come to her own conclusion. In hindsight, that was probably the right reply to her inquiry, for it left her wondering if she'd met her match today. "No point in holding back then..." Lumina thought to herself before a thought occurred to her. How long had she been holding back?"
With such permeating her subconscious, she had strained to hear Caius follow up about Chocobos. It left her to nod before she spoke up, "We had both as well." she'd admit, though she'd never given thought to which she preferred more. Largely because it was just a means to an end, a strand of thought she hadn't much time to consider whilst being her sister's keeper. "I think I preferred public transportation. Convenience and reliability, one's thoughts are free to flow when they're not occupied on the journey."Freedom, that singular, powerful word that collected her muddy thoughts. Paired with relief, it made for a mutual, collective thought that she must have had after the merger.
Such thoughts slowed her initial response, as if she'd absentmindedly offered her hand. Her intentions were largely just to observe and have a bit of fun with whatever spark came from it. Instead, she received more than she bargained for and it left her surprised but pleasantly so. Being thwarted again even if it wasn't a big deal, left her with a feeling she hadn't felt in quite some time. She knew that she'd felt it, well, Lightning had, at points but the word for it left Lumina at wits end.
"As I understand, gardening and chocobo ranching go hand in hand, given their favourite food." Lumina admits passively, "White chocobos were rare for us too. Yet I still got one, because it was the form that my Eidolon took in those end times. Well, I'm saying 'I' which sounds weird given we were separate..." she admits before giving a soft chuckle. "Did Serah tell you about what our life was like before arrival here? We're from different timelines, all three of us. In Serah's timeline, I no longer exist. In Claire's timeline, we hadn't separated. Yet we get along quite well." she paused for a moment, taking the time to look up to the sky.
"I haven't told Serah yet but...I might, no I probably am, from her timeline. I just don't know how that is, so I distracted her with something more important." though she had a theory! Lumina reckoned that her memories from being an individual were a permanent thing. Effectively, nothing was undone from the merger, if anything it was more like a spiritual evolution. It didn't explain why she was the one in control though, she'd just have to figure it out while her sisters enjoyed themselves.

The Dragonblades
Hmm, the hair moved? The hair was the same as it was before, though... Hmm. This was an interesting bit of magic. The form was almost a bit too perfect, completely free of any physical imperfections. It was the sign of an illusion, and the fact that she shifted whenever he tried to mess with it supported that theory. And I mean, if she said it wasn't her shifting... What else could it be? Meanwhile Lumina had brought up that her world had both vehicles and chocobos, same as his. Public transportation and everything. "I didn't see much public transportation. Lived out in the country, as I mentioned, so it didn't come by much. Only ever went to the cities to get supplies."
And he was fine with that. He had his family and the chocobos, what else did he need? He just wished that peaceful, quiet life could have lasted a little longer. Though he could understand having free thoughts. "You just haven't rode something that you trust completely" Caius expressed at that with a small but blatantly cheeky smile. "I can do that just fine on Vordun. Once we set a direction, he knows to stay the course and I know that if something is in the way, he'll handle it. I've read books and even taken naps during our flights."
Flights. That would narrow down Vordun's identity if Serah hadn't disclosed to Lumina that the "dragon" part of Dragonblades hit a little closer to home than it initially might have seemed. Meanwhile Lumina didn't seem bothered by his taking her arm, so he had no reason to assume he had actually done wrong. He hadn't "denied" her on purpose or anything, but that was just what Caius knew. He was still learning all of this.
Eidolons. What were those? Caius tilted his head curiously a moment at the word, as if to silently inquire, but let Lumina spin her tale. Then came more talk of timelines that Caius didn't entirely get. She admitted that she and Serah were from the same timeline... But hadn't told her. Quite scandalous. Caius scratched his head with his free hand.
"I don't know if I understand all of it, but what matters is that here and now, you three are a family" Caius brought up at that. "And maybe that's all that Serah needs to know. I know I feel a little weird about what I told my King when I found him here... Ten years younger than the one I served" Caius mused aloud. "He thought I served his father, and I was content to let him live under that assumption. But once he began to pry, well, it became necessary in my eyes to tell him the truth. I died to protect him from an assailant. And now I'm here. Now he knows that, and... I still don't know if it was the right thing to do."
