[attr=class,lyric2]king of fishing
[attr=class,bulk] Vordun caught the first fish of the day completely by himself, and while Noctis didn’t speak dragon, he was going to guess that the snort the creature gave them on the way over to eat his catch was pretty judgmental. “He’s putting us to shame,” Noct said with a slight grin, patting his fishing pole sympathetically as if the wooden rod was going to be jealous of the dragon’s catch. Well. Maybe Noctis himself was a little jealous, but there would be time for fishing later. The current conversation was a bit too serious for him to enjoy his favorite pastime much.
Caius didn’t seem too surprised that Noctis didn’t know much about Ardyn’s actual backstory. He told him the tale with the air of a man who had repeated the story pretty often but still didn’t know how to feel about it. Noctis didn’t blame him one bit. He didn’t know how to feel about it either—especially hearing that his ancestor had been such a terrible dude. “I…don’t know what’s weirder,” he finally ventured. “The idea that Ardyn used to be a savior or that my family buried what actually happened. If we ever get back to Eos, then remind me to replace Founder’s Day with a different holiday. Feels weird to celebrate Somnus now.”
Caius muttered under his breath that knowing all of that didn’t change anything that Ardyn himself had done, and Noctis nodded in complete agreement. “Yeah. It makes me understand him more, but he’s definitely not the guy from that story anymore. So it doesn’t change what I have to do.” The Ardyn that Noctis knew was a complete sadist who delighted in causing pain for the sake of his revenge, even though Somnus himself had been dead for 2,000 years. He was delusional about where the blame fell in the present day, and he needed to be stopped.
“I guess that makes him something like my great-uncle times 113 generations,” Noctis added as an after-thought with a slight grimace. It wasn’t a pleasant realization considering their interactions so far. “You said he would absorb the starscourge back when he was a healer. Is that what made him immortal? He looks younger than my dad does if he’s really that old.”
Or younger than his dad used to look, but Noctis left that unsaid.
The prince was a little surprised at Caius’ request that he stay alive, but he took it in stride and gave the blond kingsglaive a slight smile. “Don’t worry, I don’t plan on dying anytime soon. Especially not here when I haven’t done anything for Insomnia yet. First things first though, got to find Prompto and rescue the others.” With that said, Noctis paused before he curled his fingers around his fishing pole. “Maybe I could fish again. Just felt kind of rude when everything was getting so heavy.”

The Dragonblades
Caius chuckled as Noctis noted that Vordun was putting them to shame with his fishing skills. First catch of the day goes to Vordun, indeed. But they still had a bit of ground to cover before they could join him there. Noctis seemed about as thrilled about what Somnus had done as Caius was upon hearing it, and brought up that perhaps they should look into a new holiday. "Cup Noodles Appreciation Day. That stuff's a literal lifesaver when nobody has a microwave" Caius gave a joking suggestion in turn, doing his best to hide a laugh at the thought of an actual holiday based around Cup Noodles. However, it was certainly better than basing a holiday around a liar and a cheat.
Ardyn's story didn't change what he had done, or what Noctis had to do, he said. What he had to do. It was still weird to think that this was a Noctis who had yet to defeat Ardyn. A Noctis who was years from pulling that off, while everyone in his timeline was still fighting desperately to survive, putting all their hopes into his return. Caius really did wish he could help Noctis get home so that he could help them. But he knew that one couldn't really influence the inner workings of this world. Only make the most of what they had until Zephon decided to call them back.
Noctis asked if Ardyn absorbing the scourge made him immortal, and Caius could only shrug. "Don't know. The palace's records told me nothing about how Adagium gained its immortality" he admitted as Vordun would return and nestle his head in the crook of the mercenary's arm. Caius scratched behind Vordun's little ear nubs in kind. "And as my informant was killed by Somnus in the struggle, they know nothing more."
That was something that likely only Ardyn himself would know. For all the good that did. Noctis would at least reassure Caius that he intended on staying alive. Which was good. Caius didn't know why he wouldn't want to be alive. So he nodded in thanks at that. "I think catching some fish would be welcome, yes" Caius brought up, then. Though at the word "fish", Vordun would suddenly spit out a half-eaten fish at Caius' feet, and stare over at Caius in turn.
“Huh?” Caius responded, blinking a few times as he looked from Vordun, then to the fish, then back to Vordun. “Oh, no it’s ok Vordy, thank you. You can have it" Caius protested as he seemed to figure out what the dragon wanted. Vordun just continued to stare at him, before his eyes darted to the fish, then back to Caius. “No, really Vordy. You can have it” Caius repeated with his affectionate tone a bit more forced this time, but Vordun continued to just stare at him. After a few more seconds, Vordun would then turn to stare at Noctis. To which Caius would promptly bring a palm to his face.
“No Vordun. His Highness doesn’t want a half eaten fish” Caius groaned out at that. Vordun wasn't relenting, unfortunately. He didn't even look at Caius, almost like it was saying "Well I didn't ask you".
“Oh for the love of…” Caius let out in exasperation before out came a long sigh. “Alright. Your Highness, do you want a half eaten fish?”
[attr=class,lyric1]i am noctis, prince of lucis and
[attr=class,lyric2]king of fishing
[attr=class,bulk] Caius had maybe the best suggestion for a replacement holiday ever, and Noctis had to snort as he pictured what a Cup Noodles Appreciation Day would even entail. “Have you met Gladio, or did those just blow up while I was gone?” Probably the latter since he’d mentioned the lack of electricity. Honestly though, a noodles festival sounded like it could be a good time. “Consider it done. I’m thinking tasting stations and a costume contest.” Basically the opposite of how dignified Founder’s Day had been, but maybe that was appropriate given the circumstances.
They finally seemed to be winding down all the serious topics—or at least the Ardyn topic in particular—and Caius agreed that maybe it was time to start fishing again. Vordun seemed to recognize the word ‘fish’ and in an attempt to be helpful, he spat out the remains of a half-eaten fish at the blond mercenary’s feet. Maybe he had been saving it for later.
Noctis had to laugh as Caius ended up in an argument with his dragon, and Noctis raised his hands in surrender when he was brought into the mix. “I don’t think I’ll ever say no to a dragon,” he joked as he leaned forward to retrieve the carcass. It was definitely slimier than the average fish, and the prince tried not to think about how much of that was dragon drool. He’d definitely need to scrub his hands after this.
“Tell you what, Vordun. I bet we can use this to catch a way bigger fish than our lures would get. What do you say?” Or it would entice sharks to come toward the beach, since only carnivores would be attracted to the smell of a recently dead fish. But that was a worse case scenario. It could also just attract a big fish.
Noctis slipped the current lure he was using off the end of the hook and put it away in his tackle box. Then he started the very messy task of working a fish head onto the edge of the hook instead. It shouldn’t have been any grosser than working with a live worm, but somehow it really really was. Anything to make Vordun feel included though.

The Dragonblades
"No, I have not. But it sounds like he has impeccable taste" Caius responded with a small laugh as Noctis would go on to describe his vision for a Cup Noodles festival. It sounded completely ridiculous, but considering all that Lucis was going through as they spoke? They could go for a bit of ridiculous at this point. "Did you know that Behemoth meat of all things goes really well with cup noodles? I found out on accident. There weren't exactly a lot of behemoths around back in Lucis to test this, but Vordun was impatient for his share after we killed a behemoth and skinned it for meat. I was trying to prepare everything, and Vordun nearly bowled me over, knocked the meat into the broth. Turns out it enriches the taste of both the meat and the noodles so long as they're both prepared correctly before you combine them."
Noctis was fully aware of this, but Caius wouldn't know that. But while he didn't know Gladiolus beyond reputation, if he was some kind of Cup Noodles guru, then at least Caius wouldn't have to worry about who was going to plan the event. Seems Noctis had this well in hand -- if he could get back.
To Caius' surprise and abstract horror, Noctis would actually take the gross, half-eaten fish. Vordun continued to stare Noctis down, watching to see if he would actually eat it. Instead though, Noctis would tie it to his hook. Not seeming to know whether to be curious or offended, Vordun would bumble over to Noctis and sniff at the fish on the hook. After a few moments of contemplation, Vordun would sit back down on his hind legs and continue to give Noctis that blank stare. Seeming to allow the demonstration for the time being.
Caius had buried his head in his hand in embarrassment for some time at this point. But eventually, he would sigh and move to help Noctis with the sloppery task. After the head was fitted, Caius would cut a bit more of the fish to use as his own lure. He tossed the remainder to Vordun and watched the dragon catch it in his teeth, seeming at least satisfied enough to eat the rest himself. That or he'd momentarily forgotten he was supposed to be giving it to Noctis.
"What are you thinking to do once you get your friends free?" Caius inquired curiously as he would soon after cast his line again. He had no idea what was going to bite, but he did his best to be ready for it.
[attr=class,lyric1]i am noctis, prince of lucis and
[attr=class,lyric2]king of fishing
[attr=class,bulk] Caius had apparently discovered on his own that behemoth meat went great with cup noodles. Or at least Vordun had helped him discover it. It was so weird to think that two people had made that discovery separately and Noct had to laugh a little at the talk of how it enhanced each of their flavors. “I think you and Gladio will get along just fine. I’ve never met anyone else who could rival his love of cup noodles.”
The blond mercenary was nice enough to help him with the slippery fish bait—judging from the way he’d hid his head in his hands he was probably just embarrassed and felt like he had to step in though. Caius even cut off a piece to use for his own lure, and Noct made sure that Vordun approved before they both cast their lines back into the sea. “Does he usually call the shots?” He had to imagine that a dragon owned you and not the other way around.
As his line drifted with the waves, Caius asked a question that Noctis had somewhat been dreading. What next? That was the problem, wasn’t it? There was everything and nothing to do from here. “I’m not sure yet,” he admitted, keeping his eyes on the horizon. “I want to get home obviously, but before that…I feel like I need a way to end this. Right now I’m just like I was when I left.” He wouldn’t be able to kill Ardyn as he was. And if Caius was to be believed, he needed about ten more years of experience before that battle anyway.
“I have a few ideas though,” he admitted. “I met this guy Alex who’s dealt with immortals back in his world before. I want to see if he can teach me how he did it. Then…I heard some of the gods in this world have the same names as the astrals? It might be worth wandering around to see which ones I can find. I was supposed to meet Bahamut in the crystal after all, and that definitely hasn’t happened yet. Worth a shot at least.”
After Noctis trailed off, he looked back at the sea, his mind turning again to what Caius had said about Cup Noodles. It had honestly really made him miss Gladio. At this point, he just wanted to see all his friends and make sure they were safe. He’d even take Gladio dragging them all over Lucis again to find the perfect Cup Noodle ingredients. Speaking of which.
“You know, shrimp is pretty good in Cup Noodles too if Vordun likes-” There was suddenly a massive tug on his fishing line. It was so unexpected that it actually yanked Noctis forward until he managed to brace himself against the sand with the water halfway up his boots. “Shit!” He yelled with a laugh, doing his best to hang on until he could reel whatever monster this was in.

The Dragonblades
Caius laughed a bit when Noctis pointed out that he would get along with Gladiolus on account of his fascination with Cup Noodles. "You will have to introduce us once we get them out, then" Caius brought up. "I never met any of your retinue for anything more than a brief business cup of coffee, and it was always as part of a group of Kingsglaive. I wasn't exactly some kind of memorable standout" he admitted. It was funny to think about, considering he now had a statue of his and Vordun's likeness in Torensten's town square. How much of that Noctis knew though, he had no idea, and he didn't really have any desire to gloat about it personally. Even if he was the type, why would Caius gloat to the Chosen King of all people, who had done far more than Caius could ever dream of?
Vordun seemed to approve of their plan for how to use the fish, though likely out of curiosity more than anything else. Noctis asked if Vordun called the shots, which got another laugh out of Caius. "Sort of. I mean, he still depends on me in some ways. He's still a very young dragon" Caius explained, then. "He's sort of a little brother, and also my child in some ways. A very, very big and dangerous child. Not dangerous in that he holds any malice, but I mean. Imagine a toddler that can breathe fire?"
Caius listened as Noctis would begin to talk about his plans, saying he was unsure and knowing that he wasn't ready to go home yet. Not as he was. He needed to get stronger so that he could end Ardyn's threat once and for all. And he also needed to deal with the issue of Ardyn's supposed immortality. "Meeting this world's Astrals would be a good idea" Caius agreed in turn. "Though I feel like I've heard the name Alex before, albeit just from intelligence and rumors. I don't think we've met or anything, but apparently there's some wandering drunken mercenary going by that name. Frequents taverns saying all kinds of ridiculous things. Got to my ears because apparently he was telling all who could hear that I... Stole his girlfriend and his dog, or something of the kind?" he mused aloud, clearly more confused the more that he spoke it out loud and heard himself say it. "I don't recall ever imprisoning a girl and a dog anywhere, so I am sure it is simply nonsense. But I hope that's not your guy. For the sake of Lucis."
But just as Caius began listening with interest when it came to a secret Cup Noodles recipe, Noctis would suddenly almost fly forward, and as Caius looked down at the water, it didn't take much to figure out why. De-summoning his fishing rod, Caius quickly ran forwards to grab onto Noctis and pull. Considering Caius' height and build, it probably wouldn't help Noctis' feelings of pained nostalgia, but Caius' instincts had kicked in and he had rushed to help. With a great big heave, they would manage to pull the creature out of the water and it would fly through the air upon letting go of the lure.
The damned thing was massive. Bigger than three Vorduns, even. And it looked angry as it began bearing down upon the two of them.
"Oh damn-"
Caius took a deep breath as he quickly summoned his gunblade, motioning for Noctis to move back. Every old instinct had kicked back in as Caius would wordlessly jump into the fray without hesitation. Flicking his blade into the air, he would disappear and then quickly re-appear above the fish, spinning through the air and slashing through its scales over and over again before warping across different points of the fish and striking with blinding speed, to where the fish was unable to flail or bite at him before he would disappear again each time it tried. With his off-hand, Caius would summon a two-sided blade, split it into two daggers and toss them into the fish's flesh. Each time they connected, they would disappear, re-appear in Caius' hands, and Caius would toss them at another point, mimicking the effect of throwing many different daggers in succession. The fish's tail almost got Caius, but he would seemingly phase through it before becoming visible again and then warping to its front. Caius stuck the gunblade into the fish's mouth before firing a Fira spell inside to light it up, finishing it off as he would then slam into the creature with his shoulder to send it onto the beach.
Caius soon landed on his feet, taking a deep breath as he wobbled a bit while trying to steady himself. That had been a lot to do in the short period he had before the thing reached the beach, he had panicked and fought like their lives depended on it. Considering the size of this thing, it potentially did. It seemed the thing was dead, so Caius de-summoned his weapons so he could rest.
"Finally-"
Suddenly it's eyes would burst back open and it would, despite being ground-bound, lunge at Noctis again. This time Vordun would launch a large fireball that would hit the thing dead on. It caused some clear damage, and yet...
"Your Highness, it's still alive!"
It might be best that Noctis finished it off fast.
[attr=class,lyric1]i am noctis, prince of lucis and
[attr=class,lyric2]king of fishing
[attr=class,bulk] Caius had apparently never met Gladio personally, though he had seen him while in a large group of other kingsglaive. The blond mercenary seemed pretty modest about his time in the group honestly, but Noctis waved that aside. If the guy had fought in the battle of Insomnia and saved his life, then he was pretty stand-out as far as Noct was concerned. Now, it was still weird to think of the kingsglaive reporting up through him and his magic instead of his dad’s, but that was a whole other issue.
Caius laughed at the question of whether or not Vordun called the shots, explaining that he was still a young dragon, so he was sort of like a big deadly toddler. Noctis loved that description honestly, especially in contrast to the unamused blue dragon still unblinkingly watching their fishing poles. Somehow it really fit Vordun.
Caius agreed that it would be a good idea to look for the astrals, though he had some reservations about Alex. Noctis snorted under his breath at the description of him as a ‘wandering drunken mercenary.’ “Yeah, that’s Alex.” He could have defended his friend, but that was pretty accurate honestly. “I know he’s kind of a disaster, but he really does know his stuff. He can do magic I’ve never seen, and he’s supposedly killed immortals before. Wouldn’t hurt to see what I can learn.”
Finally, in a long-suffering voice Caius explained that Alex was going around and accusing him of taking his dog. For a moment Noctis just stared at him, but then he couldn’t stop himself from cracking up laughing. “Wait, wait! You’re the one who stole his dog?” That story had always been a bit dubious, though Noctis had mostly accepted it at the time. Caius didn’t exactly seem like the dog-snatching type though, so he now suspected there was a lot more nuance to the tale than Alex had let on. Go figure.
As Noctis tried his best to reel in the fish alone, Caius came to his aid. He was a lot taller and stronger than Noctis honestly, so it was appreciated even if being dragged backwards along with a gigantic fish gave him a huge rush of nostalgia for the guys. Hopefully they’d all be together again soon though after they managed the prison break.
Not if he became a fish’s dinner though. Together, he and Caius had managed to fling it overhead towards the beach, but it was starting to bear down on him with its mouth open. Before Noctis could do anything though, Caius held out an arm and sprang into action. Honestly, it might have been automatic on his part if he’d used to guard Noctis, but the prince respected his wish and stayed back. After a moment, he even let out a whistle of appreciation as Caius warped around and let loose with his daggers. It was kind of surreal to see his magic on someone other than one of the guys, but Caius obviously knew what he was doing with it. Not a bad first kingsglaive at all.
Well. Not that Caius was first chronologically, but he was the first that Noctis himself had met. All this time travel stuff was messy.
Caius managed to knock the fish back towards the beach with a well-placed Fira spell from a weapon that Noctis kind of wanted to examine later. The sword had a mechanism on it that looked a bit like his Engine Blade. “Nice!” he called over, but apparently he spoke too soon as the monster fish suddenly flopped up and launched itself straight towards him. Vordun fried it with his fire breath before it could latch onto Noctis, but at Caius’ warning, he summoned his trusty Engine Blade to his hand. Reeling back, he tossed it forward like a javelin before warping after it in a flash of blue. Reappearing directly over the top of the monster fish, he drove his sword down and through its head, skewering it to the beach.
“Kind of a messy ending,” he joked, banishing his weapon and looking gingerly at the fish blood all over his pants. Well, he’d definitely been covered in worse. “You didn’t leave me much to do though. You weren’t kidding about being a kingsglaive. We were lucky to have you.”
With that said, he glanced between the fish and Vordun. “What do you think, bud? Big enough for you?”

The Dragonblades
Oh dear god, that actually was him? Caius' expression quickly shifted to one of abstract horror as Noctis confirmed that yes, it indeed was the same Alex. Apparently he was strong, albeit incompetent. "Just... Be careful. You kind of need to be alive if you're going to go back to Lucis and save us all" Caius pointed out with a long sigh. Caius actually seemed to be developing just a touch of sass, wasn't he? Whether it would become a habit is yet to be seen, but spoiler alert -- yes it would.
But then things only began to further spiral into disaster as Noctis would reveal that he too had been told this story. "Oh geez. What dog did I steal?" Caius had to ask with an agonized groan as his hand came to his face. This whole rumor was getting ridiculous. "I imagine he's the one who has planted all these other weird rumors I've heard in his drunken stupors. Some of them are... Well, very out of character, to say the least" he admitted at that. Caius didn't even understand half of them either. The dog part was about the only one he understood, and as he had just revealed prior, he didn't even understand half of that one. "Apparently I stole his girl and his dog. Does he think I kidnapped his wife or something? Have her locked up in a tower somewhere with a giant monkey standing guard?" he had to ask, though. The idea that Alex had a wife was in of itself a scary thought. Maybe she ran off on her own?
Caius was right on that guess, but he technically did take her in...
But all was lost to the winds as the fish attacked. Caius cursed himself for not finishing it off quickly. It seemed he had grown a touch rusty in his time behind a desk. Was this how Celes felt? He was starting to see why she had insisted on her very, very long working vacation. But while Caius had been loading up another spell to finish it off, it seemed he didn't have to worry about His Highness. Noctis would bring out that familiar sword and finish the job in quick fashion. It was kind of surreal to see His Majesty at work again, even if it wasn't the same man. It was pretty clear how this was the man who would one day go on to save Lucis from the darkness. His form was a little slack, but Caius knew that it would only get better.
While messy, the job was done. Caius kept his blade out a bit longer as he walked over, in case the thing got up again. It didn't, however. Noctis praised his combat skill, and Caius would gently bow in thanks. "You honor me with your words, Your Highness" Caius responded. Impressing His Highness was definitely a high honor for Caius, even if he was sure that the Noctis of his time had seen far better.
With that though, the fish was dead and they had an incredible catch on their hands. Caius had, quite frankly, never seen a fish this big in his life. They certainly never grew this big in Lucis, did they? Vordun meanwhile, was over the moon. The fish was so big that the dragon was actually almost dancing a bit in how excited he was! And of course, the dragon had to turn and cover Noctis in slobber at his question, so that definitely was a sign that the fish was indeed big enough.
"Well, we won't have to worry about feeding Vordun for a day or so" Caius commented as he looked over the fish. "I wish I still had my camera for this."
Camera? Right, that was a thing in Lucis, wasn't it? That was a strange memory to suddenly come back right here and now.
[attr=class,lyric1]i am noctis, prince of lucis and
[attr=class,lyric2]king of fishing
[attr=class,bulk] Caius bowed in response to Noctis praising his fighting skills. Before the fall of Insomnia, the prince had tended to wave off displays of respect like that, but now he just nodded in acknowledgement. “You’re welcome. It’s nothing that isn’t true though.” If he was going to be a king someday, then it was time to start acting the part more. Even if it wasn’t the most natural thing in the world for him. He was introverted enough to have to work at it.
Vordun was apparently thrilled about the huge fish, and Noctis laughed as a dragon tongue was swiped across his face. “Hey, hey!” He patted his blue shoulder scales with one hand while wiping off his cheek with the other. “You know, you’re like a big dog in some ways.” He never would have guessed that about dragons, but this one had been raised by a person at least. That probably changed things.
“Only a day? Vordun must eat a ton,” Noct reacted to Caius saying he wouldn’t need to worry about feeding the dragon for a little bit. “And…you take photos too?” The blond mercenary was just making him nostalgic for all his friends today. He could almost picture Prompto losing his mind over the giant fish, gesturing for them all to pick it up so he could get the best photo. “I think you’ll get on just fine with the other three.” Not that he needed to tell Caius that about Prompto since they’d already met apparently.
“Well this will be a beast to cook up,” he said, finally bending down to look over the fish. Cooking wasn’t his strong point honestly, since he mostly relied on Ignis for that. Maybe they could manage something collectively though. Caius seemed pretty self-sufficient. Speaking of, it suddenly occurred to Noctis that their earlier conversation had gotten cut off with the appearance of the huge fish.
“Oh, right! The dog you stole. I haven’t heard the whole story, but I think he was saying some girl named Cassie ran off to your guild with the dog after you poached them or something?” That was the best description Noct had anyway, so hopefully Caius would be able to make sense of everything with that small amount of details. “And I’ll be careful. Er. Really careful actually.” Considering that Alex had already nearly driven him off a cliff once. He had promised not to tell that story to any of his retainers though, and Caius probably counted considering he was a kingsglaive. Not that it seemed like the blond man needed anymore reasons to dislike Alex. Still, he still didn’t plan to give any of them a heart attack with that particular story.

The Dragonblades
Caius laughed jollily as Vordun showered Noctis in affection over the fish. "He's in some ways a dog, some ways sort of like a cat. But also is much larger than either of us, has very large claws, teeth and fiery breath. I try to keep that in mind" the mercenary cheeked at that. Well, at least Vordun was friendly. He didn't know what he would do if his friend had at any point tried to eat Noctis. That would have been a problem. But Vordun was fairly well-behaved. Usually.
"Well, maybe more than that. But I don't see this fish lasting longer than a few days. Generally he feeds himself, but this one eats a lot" Caius admitted at that. "I don't know what he eats to feed himself when I'm not there, though. We live in a forest, so there's plenty of game. But I haven't seen enough bodies to indicate he's been taking them out in bulk" Caius mused aloud then, but after that his gaze slowly stared down towards the fish. "But if there are fish like this around... I think I've found my answer to that question."
Noctis asked if he took photos, equating him to one of his other friends. "Well, not exactly" Caius responded at that. Sorry to disappoint on that one, Your Highness. "The Kingsglaive gave me a camera phone to communicate when I'm off on missions. However, I never really figured out how to use it. And I didn't have it when the attack happened, so it didn't come with me. I haven't owned a camera besides that since I was a child. Though seeing this fish, I'm starting to regret that fact."
It was likely becoming abundantly clear just how little Caius had experienced about life outside of combat in those ten years, to the point that he hadn't any experience with a smartphone. Or even owned a camera to take a few mementos since he was a child. At the least, Caius knew how to cook with fire well enough. Maybe not on a stove, but he could cook on a spit well enough. Caius had begun setting up the stones to begin work on the cooking when Noctis remembered the other part of that story. "You must mean Cassandra. Though I wouldn't call it a poach" Caius brought up at that. "She and her dog showed up at our door and asked to join. That's... About it, really. Told me a few stories about things like her friend nearly getting her killed over and over, someone repeatedly poisoning her, and a few others. As far as I know, she had no contact with any of our members prior. Just heard stories and showed up. Sorry the story's not so exciting on that one."
Noctis promised to be careful, though Caius sighed at that as he finished putting the stones together. He would take a deep breath then before channeling magic into his hands as he would begin to budge the fish towards it. Vordun's eyes followed the fish like a hawk watching its prey. Slobbery drool had begun dripping from its mouth en masse.
"Considering you were hardly careful even in your 30s, I'm not getting my hopes up" Caius admitted with a small, resigned laugh.
