PROMISE YOU'LL COME AND SAVE ME
In all honesty, the events of just moments ago were really just a blur for Tifa. It was too far-fetched for her to really believe that she had a confrontation with Sephiroth that didn't end in battle. She wasn't going to say it didn't end terribly, because emotionally, it did. More for him, but the who thing still got to her. How could someone who had done so many terrible things just...forget? Oh that's right, he didn't forget them. He never knew those memories.
At first, Tifa thought Cloud was right. There was no way someone could do all that and then act like it never happened. Sephiroth wasn't acting, and this whole world was just screwed up! Why would some people still have horrible memories, but others didn't even know who they were? Who created this world, and why would they do that? Was death the thing that brought them there? Tifa was sure they had won that final battle, so she was sure death wasn't her option. Well, she hoped so anyways.
Arms crossed, she made her way through Provo, unsure of what to do next. Should she head back to the hospital to see how Cloud was doing? She had left in quite the hurry, so maybe that wasn't the best idea. Besides, going back there would mean telling Cloud everything, and she wasn't really sure she was prepared to tell him quite yet. Not while she was still processing it all herself. Aerith probably wasn't going to be the happiest with her either.
Looking around, she once again saw the ruined building from the fight. The fight that came from one big misunderstanding on Cloud's part. She didn't blame him though, nor did she blame Sephiroth. They had just fought him, it wasn't a surprise that Cloud still had hatred towards him. Sephiroth, well he just happened to see Cloud at the wrong moment, memories still fresh in his mind. Wrong place, wrong time. For the both of them.
It was a little chilly out, one could tell by the way Tifa was rubbing her arms. It didn't bother her though, she had dealt with far worse weather. Deciding it would probably be best to find somewhere to stay for the night, she looked around. In this new world, she couldn't really tell if there was an inn nearby. She turned to head more into the city when she collided with something, or someone, that definitely wasn't there moments ago. If she hadn't been trained like she had, she probably would have fell over. Luckily, she stood her ground. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize anyone else was out here."
[attr=class,lyric1]i am noctis, prince of lucis and
[attr=class,lyric2]king of fishing
[attr=class,bulk] The Rising Stones headquarters was…something. Noctis honestly wasn’t sure what else he should have expected from a guild that Alex led given how they’d met, but a half-demolished building still caught him off-guard. Okay, maybe that wasn’t entirely fair to Alex given that the entire street was smashed up. Really, the Rising Stones had made out pretty well all things considered. The basic structure was still in place. The building just needed some window repairs, a new roof, maybe a fresh coat of paint…
Well. He’d stayed in worse places while camping out with the guys. Anyway, Noctis had zero room to complain now that he and Alex were wanted by the Sonoran police for carjacking. He would argue of course that it was just hitchhiking that had gotten out of hand. And what else was he supposed to do, stay there and freeze to death in the middle of a frozen tundra? His excuses didn’t mean much in the wake of his wanted poster circulating around though, and it certainly wouldn’t save him if Ignis got ahold of him.
So the only thing to do in the meantime was to lie low with the Rising Stones until the whole thing blew over. He had a feeling that wouldn’t take too long in Provo at least. The news was pretty distant already since Sonora was way up north, and it was completely overshadowed here by the battle that had taken out an entire city block. He wouldn’t want to be either of those guys right now, that was for sure.
Alex was out for the time being, so Noctis had some time to kill alone with the stray cats that the guild members were apparently looking after. Noct had always been a cat guy, and he’d particularly warmed up to a friendly tuxedo cat who had a tendency to head-butt his shin whenever he wanted pets. It would be dark soon, and Noctis had neglected to ask where the cat food was, so he made up his mind to go catch them something for dinner instead. He’d been itching to try out his fishing pole in this new world anyway, and sunset was one of the most active times for fish. Plus it wasn’t like he wasn’t laying low if he was just heading over to the river.
Outside in the rubble, Noctis shielded his eyes from the orange glow of the sunset, deciding that the river he remembered seeing on the way into the city was back to the north. A large pile of debris was in his way, so rather than walk all the way around it, Noctis summoned the engine blade to his hand instead and threw it towards the top. He warped after it in a shower of blue sparks, landing unsteadily on a chunk of concrete before leaping down safely on the other side.
Or that was his plan at least.
As it turned out, a dark-haired woman was examining the ruins with troubled eyes on the other side of the wreckage. He very nearly fell directly on top of her, but with a little course-correcting, he managed to land just next to her and stumble into her instead. An apology was already on the tip of his tongue since he expected that he’d knock her over, but she ended up feeling like a solid wall of muscle. Noctis was the one who found himself on the ground instead, blinking up at her to make sure he hadn’t hallucinated. No, she really was just a tall, thin woman who didn’t look particularly imposing. Somehow it felt more like he’d smacked into Gladio though.
“You’re really strong,” he said, climbing to his feet and dusting off his pants. “Sorry about that. I didn’t think anyone would be out here either this late.” She was the type of brunette woman that would have probably left Prompto sputtering for words with her curves, but Noctis himself noticed other things. The way she’d been staring at the wreckage with an upset expression until he’d run into her for one thing. The fact that no one would be here at night if they had anywhere else to go for another.
“I’m Noctis by the way,” he said, shoving his hands in his pockets as he introduced himself. No last names or titles. He wasn’t running away from them exactly, but they didn’t mean anything here anyway. “I’m staying in what’s left of the Rising Stones Guild. About to go catch some fish for some stray cats though.”

PROMISE YOU'LL COME AND SAVE ME
Tifa felt terrible that she had knocked and went to help him up, but he was already back on his feet. And, complimenting her as well. "Um, thanks. I train a lot." Part of her had thought about cutting down on working out after she had arrived here. At first, it hadn't seemed like there was anything to be afraid of. After she found out about the fight Cloud had started, she realized there were still people to be afraid of. Not saying just Sephiroth, but anyone in general. For all she knew, this man could attack her.
"I guess we both got surprised." Being a bartender the last few years had increased Tifa's social skills. Though, as a young girl she was pretty chatty as well, but she became more shy as she got older. Small talk was a must when working with people, even if they got wasted and didn't make much sense anyways. She was really thankful for all of that now, since she was in a new world.
Noctis introduced himself and she gave him a smile. "Tifa, nice to meet you." In a way, he kind of reminded her of Cloud. Maybe it was just the hair, as it was sticking out all over the place like her blonde friend. He was also rather skinny, but she could tell he was also strong. Was he a fighter? Where did he come from? She was about to start asking questions when he spoke next.
Cats? Well now he was sounding like Wedge. "Rising Stones Guild? That must be the building next to the destroyed one." She felt bad for whoever owned that, and knew she had to make sure Cloud helped them get it fixed in one way or another. He said he was going to go fishing, and she tilted her head to the side. "Mind if I join you? I've never been fishing." Out of all the things she had done while traveling with the gang, fishing had never been one of them.
[attr=class,lyric1]i am noctis, prince of lucis and
[attr=class,lyric2]king of fishing
[attr=class,bulk] The woman seemed a little awkward about the compliment, but then it was the first thing that he’d said to her. Gladio didn’t refer to him as Prince Charmless for nothing—Noctis wasn’t always great at social queues, but being friends with Prompto for so long and seeing him put his foot in his mouth made Noctis feel downright charismatic in comparison. Not that his blond friend was expected to lead a kingdom someday like the prince was.
He at least hadn’t scared the woman off, and she introduced herself as Tifa while explaining that she trained a lot. “You’re a fighter? What’s your weapon?” She didn’t have anything on her that would help him identify it. Noct didn’t either of course, but most people didn’t have the luxury of storing weapons in their glaive like the Lucian kings did. Maybe she used something small though, like guns or daggers. Prompto and Ignis would approve.
Tifa guessed correctly that the Rising Stones guild was the half-demolished building next to the destroyed one, and Noctis nodded in confirmation. “Yeah, it’s a mercenary guild. The guy who runs it is helping me get on my feet since I just turned up here.” Alex had told him that there was some anti-offworlder sentiment in Zephon, and he’d definitely seen that during his car chase in Sonora. Tifa seemed nice though, so hopefully she wouldn’t turn on him just for that. “I guess there was some kind of fight here? I’ve seen the wanted posters, and Alex keeps talking about some blond hobo homewrecker.” A direct quote unfortunately, and Noctis shrugged a little since he didn’t have much more of an explanation for that one. Alex had a lot of good one-liners. Noct was going to start calling them Alex-isms.
“So make of that whatever you will.” He waved one gloved hand, before glancing back at Tifa in surprise when she asked if she could join him fishing. Truthfully, he’d be glad for the company. He’d fished out with the other guys for so long now that it would feel pretty quiet to do it alone. He was too used to their backseat fishing. “Sure. I might even have a spare pole you could use if you want.”
Okay, so he definitely had multiple rods. Probably even a dozen, but he didn’t want to scare her off by getting too passionate about fishing yet. He’d save that for when they actually started.
“...So what brings you all the way out here?” He asked as he started heading off towards the spot he’d had in mind. He wasn’t sure if she’d like the question though—she had looked pretty upset about something before he’d bumped into her. “Not trying to pry though if you just want to fish.” He’d been there. Staring at the water and waiting for a bite could be pretty good for forgetting your problems.

PROMISE YOU'LL COME AND SAVE ME
Noctis seemed a tiny bit surprised when she stated she was a fighter and asked what her weapon was. "Um, my fists?" She was nervous now, given the fact that she never really talked about herself with others. It wasn't something she liked to do honestly, it felt selfish to her. Experiences were a different thing, if she could relate to something or use her past to help, she would share that. She never really spoke about her personality or physique. Truth be told, she was a terrible aim with guns, and she wasn't keen on waving around swords.
"That's nice of him. Unfortunate about what happened to his building though." She wasn't quite sure how Noctis or his friend felt towards the people who did that to the building, so she wasn't going to mention she knew one of them right away. His next statement almost had her laughing to be honest. Blonde hobo homewrecker? Cloud would have a field day with that one, though she wasn't sure if he would be a good response or a bad one. "Yeah, I heard that too.." She trailed off a bit.
The conversation seemed to trail off there, and she was glad for that. The last she needed was for someone to not like due to her friends reckless actions. When he stated he might have a spare pole, she gave him a smile. "That sounds wonderful, I'll follow you." Mostly because she didn't know her way around, but also that he probably knew the best spot to fish.
When he asked what brought her all the way there, she looked off into the distance. "I was looking for someone." She kept her answer simple, and he continued on and she looked over at him with a smile. "It's not a problem, I know nothing about fishing, so you'll have to do a lot of talking anyways." This was going to interesting.
[attr=class,lyric1]i am noctis, prince of lucis and
[attr=class,lyric2]king of fishing
[attr=class,bulk] Tifa apparently fought bare-handed, and Noctis gave her an impressed look at the revelation. No wonder she hadn’t budged when he’d run into her. She could probably back-hand him into next Tuesday if she wanted to. “No kidding? Punching out a monster sounds harder than using a sword honestly. I don’t think I could do it.” Losing access to his weapons was part of the reason he’d been so lost in Gralea honestly, when he’d been separated from his friends and forced to rely on the ring’s power alone. Maybe he would have had an easier time there if he had trained with his fists more like Tifa. And wouldn’t that have surprised Ardyn.
The image of ruining the chancellor’s plans by punching out daemons was pretty funny, and it was honestly the first time that Noct had been able to look back at everything without wanting to crawl into a hole. He was grateful to Tifa for that, even if she wasn’t aware of it.
Noctis wasn’t always the most for small talk, but he was aware that he’d been quiet for a while, so he rubbed the back of his neck as he headed off towards the fishing spot he’d seen earlier with her. There was definitely something troubling Tifa, and while it wasn’t in his nature to pry, he felt like he should say something at least. “...Did you find who you were looking for?” With how upset she’d looked when he’d first run into her, he was betting that the answer was either no, or yes but it didn’t go well.
She said it was alright if he talked since she didn’t know anything about fishing, and he laughed a little sheepishly in response. “You don’t want to give me a free pass to talk about fishing. Just cut me off if it’s too much.” It’s what his friends would have done. As for his dad, Noct wasn’t sure that he’d ever tried to talk to the King about his outdoor hobby. His father had been way too busy for that, not that Noctis wanted to dwell on that.
Too late. He was dwelling on it.
Thankfully he couldn’t brood for too long as the lake he remembered seeing while entering the city came into view. There was even a dock leading out a little further into the depths that Noct had eyed longingly when he’d first seen it. There had been one or two people fishing on it then in the daytime, but it was deserted now. Probably because the setting sun was starting to cast long shadows around them. Their loss though. Sunset was one of the best times to fish.
“Alright, here we are.” Hopping up on the dock, Noctis reached into his glaive and summoned two poles into either hand with a flash of blue sparks. He kept the Tranquility for himself and handed over the Mind Breaker rod to Tifa. It was the one that he’d brought with him from Insomnia, and while it wasn’t great for catching huge fish, it was easy to use and reliable. Definitely a great starter pole.
“First things first, you just need to spool the line through the reel. I can walk you through it.” Taking a seat on the dock, he went about showing her how to attach the fishing line. “Then you can pick out the lure, which I think is the fun part. You have to be strategic based on the type of fish you want to catch.”

PROMISE YOU'LL COME AND SAVE ME
A blush creeped over Tifa's face at his words. "With the proper training, I'm sure you could do it. It does hurt quite a bit at first, but it hurts less over time." She could rememebered the first dummy she ever punched and it had taken everything in her not to burst out in tears. Master Zangan would not have been happy with her if she would have done that. He was a nice guy, but still very stern in his training. "I wouldn't be very good at fighting with a sword, so I guess we're pretty even."
Thinking about swords made her think about Cloud and she still had a hard time figuring out just how he swung that massive sword he had around. The thing was pretty heavy as it was, but lifting it and moving it around? That was something she could never picture herself being able to do. Of course, she had never really tried it.
They walked in silence, it had seemed neither one of them really knew what to say to each other. She saw him rub the back of her head, and then he asked a question. She figured he would ask eventually, since she had mentioned it already. "Yes, I did. The conversation went a little different than I had planned though." Tifa wasn't sure how far into details she should go with this guy, but he seemed nice enough.
The response she got in regards to fish talking made her giggle. "We all have somthing we can talk about nonstop. I guess mine could be bartending. There's a lot of stories there." Drunk people were a handful sometimes, but they could be entertaining as well. She had run into her fair share of trouble and amusement while at work, sometimes at the same time.
Noticing that he was looking at something, she looked ahead as well. There was a lake, and it was rather pretty. Tifa liked being around water, it was calming to her. The sun was setting as well, and the reflections on the water just made it that more beautiful. No one was currently around, and she couldn't imagine why. The scenery was great, but maybe it had something to do with the fish? Maybe they weren't around at night, so why were they here now? Currently, she was at a loss.
Following him onto the dock, she almost fell backwards when two poles seemed to have come out of nowhere. "Okay, now that was pretty cool." She didn't really know what else to say, it had taken her off guard. Regaining her footing, she walked over to him and took the pole, staring at it slightly. It was honestly a little odd to her that this was the first time she had ever held a fishing pole, since the people in Nibelheim always caught their own fish.
Sitting down next to him, she watched as he showed her what to do. It seemed easy enough, so she copied how he had done it. He explained about the lures, and she gave a nod. "The sturdier the lure, the bigger fish you can get?" She was just guessing here, but that was the option that made sense to her. It all seemed so thin, how did none of it break when trying to get the fish out of the water?
[attr=class,lyric1]i am noctis, prince of lucis and
[attr=class,lyric2]king of fishing
[attr=class,bulk] Tifa seemed confident that he could fight with his fists too if he had the proper training, but Noct grimaced a bit at the thought of more classes. He’d spent half his life in training of some kind or another—swords, magic, politics, the list went on. He didn’t relish the thought of more, so he should probably just stick with swords. Tifa sounded tough though. Noctis would probably just break his hand on the first day.
Her conversation with whoever she had been looking for didn’t seem to have gone very well, and he nodded sympathetically as he strung the line through the pole, deciding to let that subject drop for now. She didn’t seem up for talking about it, but maybe after she’d caught a fish or two. That was enough to improve anyone’s mood.
Thankfully, she didn’t seem to mind that he could ramble about fishing, and he perked up a bit as she mentioned her own interests. “You’re a bartender?” Noctis hadn’t actually been to very many bars in his life, considering how recognizable he’d been in Insomnia. He and Prompto had gone a couple times with fake IDs though, which would have given the Citadel’s security team a heart attack if they’d ever found out about it. “I bet your fighting comes in handy then. You ever have to throw people out?”
Noctis had pulled the fishing poles from his glaive without really a second thought, but Tifa seemed impressed. He guessed that the rest of the magic that he’d seen on Zephon didn’t exactly line up with Lucian magic too well. “It runs in the family,” he explained a bit wryly, though his lips quirked upward a bit when she said it was cool. “Definitely comes in handy not having to carry anything, but it comes with a lot of other baggage.”
Like an ancient prophecy foretelling your death and an undead chancellor intent on tormenting you and ending your family line. That felt too heavy a topic of conversation for a fishing trip though.
Tifa was a quick learner, and Noctis nodded approvingly as she got her fishing line strung through the pole. “Close on the lures! It’s actually the pole that’s meant to be strong. Lures are what you string on the hook to attract the fish. They look like something they’d want to eat.” He pulled his tackle box out of his glaive with another flash of blue sparks so that he could open it up in front of her and show her his wide selection. “You can either tailor it to the type of fish you want to catch, or you can just go with your gut.” Both had served him pretty well in the past.
He left the decision on Tifa’s lure to her, but for himself, he selected one that resembled a small, thick blue fish. It was called a Big Blaze Bahamut, though he’d never been sure why—it looked literally nothing like the Draconian. Still, it was good for an evening time-frame and he’d had success with both salmon and sea bass with it in the past. Perfect fish for feeding cats with.
Once he’d gotten the lure securely fastened on the hook, he showed her how to cast the line by holding down a small button and flicking out with the pole so that the line went sailing a short distance away before plopping in the water. “Now we wait,” he said afterward, settling in at the end of the dock after making sure that Tifa was all set too. Hesitating for a moment, he glanced over at her. “Hey…thanks for coming. I know I’m a stranger and all, but I’m not really…used to fishing alone anymore. I’m still pretty new to Zephon.”

PROMISE YOU'LL COME AND SAVE ME
Tifa watched as Noctis seemed lost in thought, and she hoped he didn't catch her staring. Learning about people was something she really enjoyed, and he seemed like he had some stories to tell. Obviously she wasn't going to press him about it, but she would listen if he ever did. Or if they ever saw each other after this. At least she would be able to fish, or hopefully she would be able to at least.
It seemed as though he wasn't going to press the matter of her conversation, though she really wouldn't of minded either way. She liked to listen to people, but she also liked to be heard as well. It was always good to get things off of your chest, and sometimes doing it with someone you didn't really know was better because they weren't on any side and could sometimes provide some outside opinions that helped the situation.
Giving a small smile, she nodded. "I am. I'll be honest, the bar really just provided a front to a secret hideout we had going downstairs. It was a lot of fun though, you get to meet all sorts of people." Shinra was no more for her, so there really wasn't a reason to keep AVALANCHE and some of its secrets. His next question made her giggle a little. "Once or twice. The bar had pretty calm customers, but the travelers sometimes caused a problem. There was a couple of us that ran it, and one of them was a pretty burly man with a gun for an arm so people knew to behave." One look at Barret would make most people shut up.
"So not everyone from your world can do that?" The only cool thing she could do was Materia, but everyone could do that where she was from. He mentioned other baggage, and she definitely wasn't going to press on that since he had said it was a family thing. Maybe another time. "You can do that with anything? Remind me to find you when I need to stock up on anything." She giggled and gave him a smile.
"Enticing them with food, just to catch them and eat them later. The circle of life." It all seemed simple enough for her. He pulled out something else and it only made her jump just a little bit this time. She gave a nod as he explained what to use, and she had been pretty lucky in the past to go with what she thought was best, so that was what she was going to go with. She picked something orange and watched as he tossed the line out. Following his instructions, she did the same. Hers didn't go as far as his, but she thought she did well.
"That's one thing I do now about fishing, is that you have to be patient because it can take some time." Some of the people she knew hated to fish because of that. They couldn't sit still. When he spoke to her again, she gave him a smile. "It's not a problem. I don't really like being alone, so this helps me as well. Plus, I'm also new here so it's nice to run into someone that seems nice so far." She gave a playful wink at that part.
[attr=class,lyric1]i am noctis, prince of lucis and
[attr=class,lyric2]king of fishing
[attr=class,bulk] Tifa seemed to have an interesting life if the secret hideout in the basement of her bar was anything to go off of. “Hang on, back up there,” Noctis said with a slight laugh as he adjusted the grip on his fishing pole. “I’m guessing you guys were doing something illegal then?” He wasn’t one to judge since everything he’d been up to after Insomnia had fallen was technically “illegal” as far as the empire was concerned. He didn’t know what kind of regime or laws she had lived under anyway. Some governments just straight up sucked. Coming from a prince.
“You know, I think I’d straighten up real fast too if someone came over with a gun on their arm.” That was a real power move. Maybe he could talk Prompto into it if he ever lost an arm somehow since his best friend liked guns so much. Not that he wanted Prompto to get that injured of course, and it would probably look weird on someone as friendly as the blond man anyway. Worth a thought though.
Tifa wanted to know more about his glaive, and Noctis nodded a bit sheepishly. “Yeah, it’s genetic, so it runs in the family. I can share it with people though, and then they can use my magic too. Just takes a ceremony to set it up.” Or maybe it didn’t technically need all those bells and whistles to work, but it had been beaten into his head growing up that he shouldn’t share Lucian magic too freely. Probably just old customs more than anything though.
Speaking of outdated traditions, Noctis grinned a little when Tifa said she’d have to find him when she wanted to stock up on something. “It’s technically supposed to just be weapons and the essentials, but I’ve always bent the rules a little anyway with all my fishing gear. So I’d be happy to come help the next time you need 30 cans of soup or something.” He didn’t even want to think about how many cup noodles Gladio had stored in there already. The founder king was probably rolling in his grave.
Tifa at least already had the first rule of fishing down, which was patience. It could be a few minutes, an hour, or never before they got a bite tonight. Only time would tell. She seemed willing to wait though, and Noctis rubbed the back of his neck to hide that he was flustered when she called him nice and winked at him. “You don’t seem so bad yourself.” Still, he was kind of surprised to hear that Tifa was new here too, and he looked over at her in interest. “Really? So you just woke up here one day too?” It seemed like everyone he met lately had one of those stories. Hopefully Tifa hadn’t been in the middle of anything too important.
