The Dragonblades
Torensten, the city of magic. To others, the city of heroes. And to potential would-be heroes: The city of dreams. With its warm, tropical climate and welcoming populace, many outworlders had made their homes here. Factions such as the Dragonblades had formed and given many of these outworlders places to work and foster relationships, as well as a new identity and purpose for themselves after being displaced from their homes. But Torensten was also a place of trade. While not the grand trading hub that the neighboring Provo was, Torensten's trade had been booming more than ever since the defeat of the Kraken at the hands of the Dragonblades. As of late, things had been incredibly busy in the marketplaces.
And merchants were making the most of the boom. With their newly replenished stocks, merchants were selling items at incredible deals in order to make as much gil from this as they could. Whether it be magical trinkets discovered along the islands now accessible by ship, or books from the neighboring provinces that had been harder to find in Torensten, there was something for everybody here. Civilians, adventurers and merchants had flocked the center square, the statue of great Hremit in all his frog-like glory crowded by merchant stalls hoping to use the central locale to their advantage.
It was here that two offworlders would find themselves. One fellow wearing a light blue, collared-up shirt blended in amongst the populace of adventurers looking for trinkets. Another, a young lady, would perhaps find her scholarly curiosity sated here. And perhaps more than she had bargained for, on top of that. For unfortunately, the young lady was cursed with the agony of good looks. And while there were no students from a floating school to crush on this young scholar, it wouldn't take much for her to capture the eyes and tie the tongue of a brash young man or woman with no shame or boundaries. Perhaps some drink may have something to do with it as well, for Torensten was well known for an ale that could topple even the beefiest of men.
Unfortunately for the young lady, this was one day where her curse would come with trouble.
With having some time to escape what seems like endless paperwork and grading she had piled up in her apartment, Quistis was able to head to the market place to do a bit of shopping. While going through, she often kept her head down, not wanting to make eye contact unless someone needed her attention. She figured that people here weren't too friendly to people not of this world so it would be best to avoid confrontation..that is..unless they start it first?
The instructor held a basket behind her back; hands clasped as the basket bumped against her bottom as she walked. It was a rather humid afternoon, so she wore something that was a little more comfortable than what she wore in the morning to give her a more professional look. No wedged ankle boots, or a tight black skirt, or white blouse. This afternoon, the blonde strode into the market with a nice, simple, yellow skirt with flower patterns etched onto the fabric. For her top, a simple peasant style, blue blouse that fell off her shoulders a bit. It would be rather awkward to walk around with wedged heels, so a pair of sandals did the trick for such humidity.
Upon reaching the vendors that had various fruits and vegetables from all over the region, she placed her basket so that the handle would rest in the crook of her arm. She smiled, seeing the fresh, vibrant colors of what she had to choose from. But before she could get hold of the merchant to ask how much a piece of fruit, which resembled a pineapple, was, some rather burly character stepped in front of the smaller framed instructor.
“Oh, pardon me~”, Quistis tried to walk around the larger male before her but he cut her path of easily once more. Looking up at the suspicious character with the bushel of hair that covered most of his face, the Blue Mage pushed her glasses up from the bridge of her nose, brows furrowing. “Sir, I'm trying to walk past you and I've apologized. May I please get back to minding my~” “Gee, for a bookworm, you're pretty feisty. I like that. And that body...nice hips, great set of ti ~”, the man belched off to the side, causing the instructor to turn away from the stench. Clearly this man had been drinking before crossing paths with her.
“Come on, honey~”, the mountain of muscle tried to move in to bring a hand to wrap around her waist. Being quick on the draw, Quistis took a side step to avoid his advances. “Sweetheart, don't play hard to get. Besides, I'm a pretty big man and I can find you among the crowd of people. Don't make me chase you down, baby..”, those words pretty much slurred as he continued to grab for the instructor. He wasn't lying about being able to find her in a crowd, that's for sure. With his six foot four height, he stood out like a sore thumb. That and his appearance of wearing some tattered tan tunic, heavy boots, black, pillowy pants and a beard that practically covered his face, he wasn't hard to miss.
“Sir, please continue on your way. I have no intention on going anywhere with you..”, Quistis looked up at the man, still keeping her distance. With so many people hustling and bustling about, no one dared to interfere with what was going on between the pair.
A heavy sigh from Quistis' lips as she evaded his advances yet again, walking around him since she was able to duck as he tried to grab her once more. Scoffing, she rolled her eyes and continued on her way down the array of vendors before the large male took a hold of her wrist, the one that had a special someone's necklace wrapped around; dragging her back to him. Gasping, the blonde female did her best to pull away from him but it was obvious, he was just way too strong.
As she was pulled up against him, he leaned downwards to try and place a kiss upon her cheek. With her brows furrowed, Quistis took quick action and dropped her basket. The palm of her hand had connected with his cheek as a loud 'smack' could be heard.

The Dragonblades
Caius meanwhile, had found himself in the market looking to stock up on foodstuffs for the base. The Dragonblades were growing, and that meant with that many hungry and growing warriors, they needed to be fed in turn. While normally he could be found in armor, with the crowds, Caius was already in an awkward position considering his slight issue of being claustrophobic. But the Dragonblades, for all their good intentions, had become a bit of a local celebrity entity in Torensten after the whole Kraken thing. Meaning Caius, who had been on stage in front of the entire city not too long ago, was more easily recognizable in the city. And Celes was off on her pilgrimage and Caius had stayed behind to make sure the intern settled in alright. So grocery duty was on him today.
All he could do was keep the armor off (for the best with the heat), put on a nice formal-ish shirt that wasn’t too tight or uncomfortable, and blend in with the crowd. But these crowds were insane! Still, they were running low on food so just call it bad timing on his part. If they could pull it off, he’d just hunt for their food. But that wasn’t gonna do it. So he had to do what he had to do.
Caius had just reached the stall and had begun to talk about an order with the vendor when a conversation with heightened voices caught his attention. “Pardon me a moment, please” he requested softly to the vendor, who was clearly annoyed but had recognized the blonde lad and also, he was ordering a big order. He wasn’t gonna pass up on a big order. Caius gently began to push through the crowd. Considering he was towards the higher 6s in feet, and was a big boy on top of that, he was able to move some people who even in their rush weren’t willing to be mowed over. But this still took time. Things were escalating in the harassment situation, and while Caius didn’t understand all the thoughts that went into this kind of act, Celes had given him an idea of what it was and how much she despised someone doing that. While not socially adept himself, Celes pointing this out had given him at least enough perspective to spot this kind of thing and understand how bad it was.
Just as the offender had grabbed and tried to place a kiss on the unfortunate woman’s cheek, Caius had placed a hand on his shoulder from behind.
“Sir, I would appreciate if-“
SMACK!
Caius had barely gotten a few words out before the poor bastard was floored by the not-so-distressed damsel. The blonde stopped cold, eyes wide.
Oh gods, another Celes.
Well… It seems his intervention wasn’t needed. The slap was so loud though, that it had gotten the attention of some. And the guards at that. Deciding not to risk infuriating the enraged vixen further and being a victim himself, it was a comedic sight as a large, 6’5 man slowly stepped away, maneuvered himself through the crowd and made his way to the guards. He had thought to ask if she was ok, but it was better to clear up the story with the guards so she wasn’t arrested on accident, and let them check on her instead.
Quistis could feel a sting after her hand left the brute's cheek, withdrawing but not necessarily nursing it with her freehand. She just stood there, fists clenched by her sides. The bracelet she wore on her wrist was still in tact, but just the simple thought of losing something she held dear to her made her blood boil. The Blue Mage's eyes began to glow a bright yellow, indicating that she was ready to use magic as her eyes were fixed on the large man with a distinct red mark on his cheek. “You little bit~”, he took a step forward as if to ready himself to take a leap forward at her. The blonde female held her position, not budging an inch as if to dare him to step any closer. Before the big fellow could take five steps towards her,a bunch of guards came in to stop him from lunging towards her. Apparently someone had reported the commotion between the pair and they came in just in time.
'It's a good thing you didn't use your laser eye, Quistis. You don't need to that. You should have summoned me', that familiar guttural voice cackled in her thoughts. Had the guards not come to stop the commotion, she wasn't sure what she would have done. All she thought about at that point and time was that necklace she wore as a bracelet around her wrist.
“Miss, are you all right?”, one of the guards approached her, snapping her out of her thoughts and brought her back to reality. It also brought her attention to the painful sting on her hand. Biting her lower lip, she hissed through her teeth, cradling the hand with her free one; basket handle resting in the crook of her arm. “Yes sir, thank you for coming to my aid. That..~”, the instructor eyed the brute with a frown, he in turn was being taken away, looking over his shoulder angrily as he began to shout obscenities which were slurred due to his heavy drinking, “~man obviously couldn't take no for an answer, so I gave him an answer he was able to understand..”
Quistis looked at the guard who seemed sympathetic to her situation. In Balamb, a lot of the males who admired her just spoke or were flirty about it, no one had dared to lay a hand on her. Maybe it was out of respect? Or they just figure smooth talking could lead to other things? In any case, the blonde female was not accustomed to being man-handled.
“Sir, I shall take accept my consequences for striking that individual, but to be fair, it was in self defense~”, “No miss. I'm not going to arrest you. The crowd pretty much told us what was going on and judging by how he grabbed your wrist and him stinking of grog or mead, we had to step in before it could escalate further. You're free to go~”
“Oh! Thank you very much, sir”, she gave the guard a slight bow, looking up with a friendly smile. “Just one thing miss~”. Quistis paused just before she was about to turn her back on the guard. “Sir?”
The guard handed her a card, leaning down to whisper before she could take her leave. “If you're not busy during the week, perhaps we can have dinner?”, he withdrew, letting the offer sink in. The instructor looked up at him, blinking from the confusion. She looked at the card he handed her then back to him. “Sir, that's rather sweet of you but~”, the blonde female tucked the card in her market basket. “I'm not sure what my schedule is and my work at the University has been picking up~”, “No worries. Whenever you're free, don't be afraid to call upon me..”, he gave her a wink as he turned his back to her. “Have a good day miss..”
'What in the world was that?', she thought to herself feeling dumbstruck. Approached by two men today? That's weird. All she wanted to do was get some groceries for herself. What else could possibly happen today? She didn't let the thought linger as she turned her heels to head back towards the stall she was at previously. While walking back to the fruit vendor, she placed her hand on her wrist that held his necklace. It brought a smile on her face once more..

The Dragonblades
Well, that had been... Something, hadn't it? At least it was dealt with. After quietly informing the guards of the situation, he stuck around long enough to get the order filled. But when he turned around after finishing his arrangements of where the large food order was to go and making his payment, curiosity hit him as he ventured forward a bit to see how things had gone with the woman, and if anyone else had been stupid enough to harass her. To his surprise, it was in fact one of the guards he had informed that was now hitting her up. The blonde's eyelids lowered and he squeezed a finger to his head with an exasperated sigh. Was this what people like Celes and Faris had warned him about? The kind of struggles that women (or people who used to identify as such) like them had dealt with back in their world, and dealt with even now in the case of one?
His memory shifted a moment to the ball. The one where he had danced with Celes. He remembered her cold and quiet fury after one such unwanted encounter. Caius had tried to cheer her up, but in the end, it had come off the wrong way. What he was watching now... Was this what Celes had mistaken his intentions for? Only helping out with hopes of scoring in the original offender's place? He would hope that Celes had a bit more faith in his sense of responsibility than that, but the thought still stuck. Either way, the display didn't amuse him at all.
Even in Torensten, it seems, even outside the stuffy balls full of stuffy noblemen and people with far too much gil on their hands. That this stuff still happened.
Unfortunately, lost in his thoughts, he didn't realize until it was too late that his large frame had collided with the very firecracker he had been trying to avoid stoking the ire of.
The blonde instructor looked down as if trying to hide her smile. She tucked a couple strands of hair behind her ear as she continued to head towards the fruit vendor. Even though she had to come up with several lesson plans for the week not to mention grading, Quistis thought of her friend who left his necklace behind often. Well, it's not as if she stopped. Even when she was in Balamb, she'd think of him. But both had to try to make their way in Zephon; she became an instructor at the Torensten University and he was working his way to be the muscle for a convoy. 'I hope he comes back. He didn't even say goodbye or anything. After all I've done for him~', she huffed, still lost in thought and not minding her surroundings. She bumped into a couple of folks but they didn't' care or they just gave her a displeased look and went on their way.
'I can't imagine why he'd leave this behind~', another touch of his necklace; tracing her fingertip along the metal plating. 'I told you if you kissed him, he wouldn't have left. Now..had you spread your le~', 'Diablos! That's enough!', she bit back at that familiar guttural voice who seems to enjoy arguing with her. The joys of having such a Guardian Force. Sometimes he drives her crazy but at least he is useful for his power and the abilities when junctioned to him.
Usually the blonde female was more careful when walking around but all these deep thoughts about missing her ex-student, she had collided with someone.
“Oof~”, the instructor took a step back. “Oh goodness, I'm so sorry~”, she blinked as she came face to face with a man's chest. Looking up sheepishly from behind her silver-framed specs, those sapphires came to rest on the taller person's gaze. “I'm so sorry for bumping into you sir..”

The Dragonblades
Perhaps a Celes comparison was a bit much, he thought to himself. While it was true that Celes was a fireball who wouldn’t take that kind of reckless and downright disrespectful harassment in the form of flirting, and would likely layeth the smacketh down if necessary… She was also a calm, commanding and in some ways terrifying presence. It didn’t take much for her to make it clear she was not someone to mess with. And not everyone was like that. Especially when he knew she had far more layers underneath, too. Comparing a stranger to someone like that did no justice to either of them.
Still, it was enough for his self-preservation instincts to kick in and tell him that getting in the way of this one’s warpath would be a poor choice. So he was perfectly fine with just letting the guards handle it. Caius was far from a glory chaser, and while he sought success for the Dragonblades, he wasn’t looking for personal clout. He’d handled the situation in what way he could, and he was fine with that. So he had gone about his business as usual, at least until his large frame made him unfortunately unable to sight the figure who bumped into him. At 6’4 and a honed frame, he did not have the best luck with crowds. Especially when he wasn’t used to them to begin with. He was a travelling man, thriving in the open spaces of the countryside. These close quarters didn’t suit him.
He did notice the presence that bumped against him when it did though, and he turned to give a quick apology. He stopped though, when he realized just who it was. Well, it seems fate had other plans than to let him walk away, didn’t it? Still, the woman wasn’t mad. That was good. He half-bowed his head formally as brown eyes scanned her frame for any injury, before resting on her spectacles.
“I should be the one to apologize, I need to be more aware of my surroundings” he apologized calmly, but softly. “I trust you’re unhurt, miss?”
It appears that the instructor was out of sorts. Usually, she was aware of her surroundings. But with the thought of a familiar face coming back into her life only to lose her again worried her even though it still left a ghost of a smile on her lips. When spoken to, Quistis looked up at the taller person, shaking her head slowly. “No, I don't believe you have, sir..”, she looked down at her arms then down at her toes. Everything seemed intact. “I'm perfectly fine.” With a nod to the male before her, she gave a smile before walking past him. “Apologies again sir..”
Trying to keep her mind occupied on going marketing, she continued down the various stalls that had varieties of fresh produce and from farms from far and wide. The blue mage walked up to a stall, seeing the very fruit she eyed before that small tussle with the brute who was taken away earlier. 'Just keep your thoughts on marketing, Trepe', she thought to herself, picking the fruit up to inspect it.
Things have been gone every which way but right for the poor woman. She was still terribly lost and not having found her footing with the right people as of late..

The Dragonblades
“You seem out of sorts. Are you perhaps new to Torensten?” he ended up asking as the young woman walked past him. It was gut instinct, one that superseded his senses and common sense. Everytime it was possible that someone seemed as though they might need help, his mind was made up that he would do his best to make that happen. Where had he even picked up that habit? It wasn’t like there were many people to help out back in Lucis. Many were out for themselves out in the wilds. Anyone willing to support each other typically stayed within the cities where it was safe. And yet, this was a habit he had picked up. Perhaps during his time in the Kingsglaive? He didn’t know.
He turned to look to her then, curious. Come to think of it, he didn’t recognize her whatsoever. And her garb was different from the usual norm that was Torensten’s civilians. Or even Provo’s and Sonora’s. Was it possible that she was an outworlder? They tended to come to Torensten quite often, hoping to make their keep where their presence was a bit more tolerated, after all.
Was she so out it ? True, there were a lot of things running through that brain of hers; trying to find her groove in this world, teaching students while trying to learn herself about the different creatures, beings and beasts that roam throughout the region, trying to find her way back to Balamb and lingering thoughts of her student that suddenly came back into her life only to disappear again. Maybe she looked distracted? Distraught? Whatever the case maybe, the instructor wasn’t having the best of times here. They started out good thanks to the Farron sisters but went downhill after her ex-student appeared and the catastrophe in the Library in which she hopes to never run into certain people that were apart of that incident. At least the University was big enough to where the two wouldn’t have to encounter each other again..
“Hmm? Oh, I~” she began but obviously she was too busy trying to distract herself from such thoughts by going out for a bit of marketing, along with other distractions that could have caused a bigger fuss but fortunately, they had a way of working themselves out. Strange though, she never thought she’d be asked out twice in a day? Goodness, maybe she is a new face in which the people of Torensten have never seen. Other than her choice of clothing, Quistis did stick out like a sore thumb among the crowd.
“I do apologize sir, things haven’t been the best for me as of late. But~”, the blonde female waved a hand dismissively after purchasing the fruit she had been eyeing before the incident with the brute. “I am new around here. Matter of fact, I’m still trying to learn about this place..”
‘My, my dear instructor, aren’t we catching the eyes of many today…’, that guttural voice whispered in her thoughts. The blue mage clutched the basket she held tightly; fingers wrapped around the hand with a firm grip
