WOULD YOU SAY I BECAME A HERO?
Everyone knew Zack wasn't one for heavy conversations, and this one was probably one of the worst conversations he could ever had. He would have never guessed that he would be sitting here talking about his own death, and to have someone so upset with having a small part in it. When he first started with SOLDIER, he knew death was always a possibility. Being gunned down by an entire Shinra militia though? That was never on his list of things that could happen. Neither was getting stabbed by Sephiroth, or fighting two of his mentors either, so Zack should have known something unknown would happen.
Removing his hand from her leg, he listened to what she was saying. "That's true. Though, I'm glad to have some peace for a moment, even if I don't know what I'm going to do next." Nothing bad could happen in a place where you didn't know anyone or anything, right? As she spoke of the Lifestream, he actually could understand what she was getting at, for the most part. "Yeah, the home part is probably what I should figure out first. Or the job part so I can afford the home." With his skills, he figured finding money could be the easy part.
Watching as she turned away from him, Zack kept quiet. She was a Turk, so of course he knew she didn't want to be seen like this. He didn't care though, she was his friend. This is what friends did. She did her best, but he wouldn't take her help. He didn't want anyone else invovled with whatever was happening. Cloud had already been involved, and now he didn't even know if the blonde was dead, alive, here in whatever land this was. The last thing he wanted was for her to go down too.
Cissnei was doing her best to hold herself together, and Zack gave her a small smile. "None of us knew why it all happened, not even me and I was the target. Shinra did what they wanted, and that's all there is. It's over now. I'm here, and I'm fine." Zack gave her a small smile in hopes that he could lighten the mood just a little bit, as they were starting to get weird looks. Getting the hint, he grabbed her hand and gave it a small squeeze before sitting back where he was. "Yes, like what do you do here?" He also took a drink of his water, definitely curious about what she did.
[attr="class","crashBody"] She gave a crooked half smile as he talked about figuring out a job and home. “Well, as I said before, work will be the easy part. You’re in Torensten. There is a high demand for people like yourself. You just need to go to the job board in town square.” She said lightly. It was not so different, other than you did not have text messages for the next mission. You had to just pick a paper off the board instead...which was a little more effort overall. [break][break] Her eyes lowered to see him squeeze her hand. In truth, it made her feel a little better. He was here, wasn’t he? If he had died, then the gods brought him here for a reason. To reassure her, maybe? A second chance? Perhaps he could do more good alive then in the life stream. Who really knew? [break][break] She shook her head, and chose not to speak anymore about it. By now, the waitress had cleared her throat and brought their orders.Two honey bourbons and a cheeseburger with fries for him. She set it down on either side of the table, before turning to leave. It seemed they caused a little bit of a scene. [break][break] A brow was raised at his vague question. “What do I do here?” She repeated it and shrugged. “I mean, it's a bar. You drink and eat.” What else was there to do to pass the time where they were.She waved a dismissive hand in front of her face. “I’m an investigator in Sonora. I came out here to take care of some business.” She said simply. Thankfully, there had been a big festival about the same time. “You would have enjoyed the festival. There were plenty of people for you to flirt with.” She smiled coyly.

WOULD YOU SAY I BECAME A HERO?
Cissnei repeated what she had said about finding a job, and Zack gave a nod. "I'll check that out. Maybe I'll meet some new friends while I'm at it." Being social was never hard for Zack, though actually remembering to go and get the jobs was a totally different story. Though, if he were motivated by money to earn himself a living, maybe he would actually get things done. Only time could tell when it came to this man, but he was determined to remember to go check out the board.
Zack noticed Cissnei was lost in thought, which was expected. There was a lot on her mind, and even though he tried to convince her it wasn't her fault, she still would have to get herself to believe it. To be honest, he was really hoping Cloud wouldn't do the same as well. He could hear it now though, the blonde saying that Zack would have probably survived if he wasn't trying to save him. It was probably true, but the life Zack would have after just leaving Cloud where they had been taken would eat him alive for the rest of his life.
Hearing the waitress clear her throught, Zack's eyes lit up when he saw the food on the plates. Thanking the waitress, he starting picking at the fries a little first before taking a huge bite of the burger. It tasted great and he was glad to have food once again. Before arriving here, it had been some time since he had ate. It was normal for SOLDIERs and Turks to go some time without food, but this time had been way too long. He had about half his food finished when he remembered there was someone else there. "Sorry." Was all he could manage after swallowing his food.
Rolling his eyes at her response, he popped another fry into his mouth. She then actually answered his question and he gave a nod. "Okay, so that answers why you're in this place. My question was, what do you do for a living on this, um, world?" The question is, was she still doing the same as she was before? He wouldn't blame her if she was. Might as well stick to what you do best!
[attr="class","crashBody"] They had called him a puppy, hadn’t they? Those other First Class SOLDIERS? After watching him, it was clear why. It seemed he wasn’t able to focus on one topic to the next. And the moment the food came, he was already digging in. It made her wonder how long it had been since he had a decent meal. If he came here right after the incident then...probably years. She could not blame him for enjoying such a treat then. [break][break] Still, she could blame a lot of things on his attention span. This is why she knew he never read Loveless. How on all of Gaia could he focus on such old fashioned sayings throughout an entire novel? [break][break] She gave a soft huff and looked away at his question. Hadn’t he been listening? “I know you are distracted by a pretty girl and appetizing food, Zack. But I did tell you what I do for a living. I’m an investigator. You know the old crime shows. Taking pictures of cheating spouses. Someone’s cat goes missing. I have to find it. Traveling down back alleys to help find a missing person that the police gave up on. That kind of thing.” She shook her head and gave a shrug. “What else can I do? Shinra doesn’t exist here.” She was alone. [break][break] “And you? What kind of work do you plan to take? Will you still work like a SOLDIER? Try to be a hero? Or something else? You’re from Gongaga, maybe you want to do something more with nature and the outdoors?” She watched him curiously, stealing a fry from his plate and plopping it in her own mouth. Obviously, he wanted to check out the board, he didn’t seem that interested in it. Maybe he would find something more up his alley while here on Zephon.
Zack had the attention span of a goldfish, everyone who met him knew that. He had been like that ever since he was a kid, and there really wasn't much his parents could do to help him. He still got good grades in school and nothing ever life threatening happened because of it, the only thing that it really effected was social interactions. He was surprisingly focused on missions when it came down to it, but not so much while traveling or waiting for things to happen. He just gets really excited over random things, okay?
"The food more than the pretty girl, but sorry." His face fell just a little bit, as a puppy would when being scolded. It didn't last long, because her job sounded rather interesting to him. "I love crime shows! I always try to guess who did it before the end. I was sometimes right." When she stated Shinra didn't exist here, he was actually relieved. That was one thing he wasn't going to have to worry about. "That does sound close to what you were doing before, so I'm sure you're great at it."
Watching as she stole one of his fries, he grabbed one as well as he thought about her question. "Both of those sound like good ideas, and if I can find the right job, I could do both at once. I might stay away from anything that involves a cooperation though, but I'll be glad to help out wherever I can." He still wondered what happened with Shinra, and why he was hunted, so his trust in companies was thin.
Though, there was still something that he needed before he could do any of this. "So, is there like an inn or something around here? As much as I like camping, I really don't want to live outside. Plus, I could use a decent shower." He had done well in keeping clean using lakes and rivers and such, but a hot shower with actual soap sounded heavenly right now. Also, he wanted a change of clothes. He was done with Shinra, and wanted out of the uniform. Though, he would probably look a little weird with a normal shirt and a giant sword on his back. He would figure something out.
[attr="class","infoNotes"]Cissnei is just here to pick on SOLDIERS
[attr="class","crashLyrics"]Boy Oh Boy
[attr="class","crashBody"] “Sometimes right about who did it?” She hummed thoughtfully, with a mischievous grin. “And how many times would that be? A tenth of the time, maybe?” She teased him while leaning back in her chair. Perhaps she was guessing too high. Her finger tapped along her class in thought. [break][break] When he mentioned it sounded close to what she was doing before, she supposed he wasn’t wrong. A frown touched her lips nonetheless. Turks did a lot of investigating and piecing things together. They did a lot of cleaning up for other people, no matter how dirty. She supposed it was no different than being an investigator. “What else can I do? I’ve no other talents.” She stated with a shrug. [break][break] Her eyes drifted to the other people in the bar. She tried to be like them when she had to hide from Shinra. It didn’t work well for her. To be laughing and carefree in a public bar with no other thought in mind…That total comfort. [break][break] Impossible. [break][break] “I can’t say I blame you.” She said gently, her ochre turning back to him. “I would say try one or the other first. See if you like it. You’ll wear yourself out trying both types of jobs.” [break][break] She raised a brow at his sudden question. “Of course there is an inn around here. This is a city that accommodates all sorts of travelers, after all.” She gave another hum in thought, “Though there are fewer that let you work for your stay though.” Zack did tell her he had no money after all. “We can probably find something though. May not be the best inn, but it would be comfortable. It’s called the Sleeping Frog. It’s a few blocks from here.” [break][break] So, the puppy wanted to eat then retreat to the dog house for a nap. Odd though. Zack usually hated sitting idle.
At her remark, Zack stuck his tongue out at her, making sure there was no food in it when he did so. "Hey! It was more like, maybe fifteen to twenty percent of the time. I got pretty good at it after a while." For some reason, the shows really caught his attention, so he was able to focus on it more. He could pay attention really well if he had to focus on something really important or something that really caught his interest. Not saying conversations didn't interest him, he just liked to be able to be doing something as well as listening.
When she mentioned she didn't know what else to do, he had to give a nod. "I get that. I don't know if I'll be able to do anything else, but it doesn't hurt to try!" Truth be told, he would be more likely to find something else to do than she would since he had been able to explore other things while working for Shinra than she was. It might take some time, but he was sure he could figure something out.
Cissnei told him there were places that let you work for your stay and Zack was pretty excited to hear that. "Oh thank Gaia. I was really wondering what I was going to do about that. I had quite a bit of money before, but it's all back at Shinra in my account or something like that. Wherever they deposited my money anyways." They never got checks, mostly because they probably didn't want the money to go missing somehow.
Zack figured Cissnei would be a little confused as to why he didn't want to keep exploring and all that. "I'm glad to hear there's one nearby as well. It's been a long five years, and I just need an energy boost, ya know? I need a good, long shower and to sleep for a bit. I'll be back to normal in no time!" Not like anyone could tell he wasn't himself since he didn't show it, but Zack was exhausted. He had been through hell and back, to be real about it. Even he was still breakable sometimes.
[attr="class","crashBody"] As Zack finished gobbling down his food, she pulled her wallet from her pant pocket. She gave it a flipping through to find the appropriate gil to lay down for the bill. Though she paid for what they received, she simply waited for him to be done eating. Shinra had always taught them to scarf down food because they never knew when they would be called again to the next mission. It certainly was taxing to be married to one’s job. She waved for the waitress to come and get it, that way it was not sitting on the table for someone else to snatch. [break][break] “Well, we can go wherever you are ready. I can introduce you.” She would not leave him alone until he was settled. It was the most she could do for him after everything that happened. It was the only way she could think of to make amends for her past. She finished her drink and set it aside, looking at her reflection in it. Had she really changed at all since those days? Was it possible for the devil to change at all? She supposed only time would tell. [break][break] “Look.” She said gently, meeting his eyes with a friendly expression. “You don’t need to tell me a long shower is needed. I can smell you from here.” She joked since he was making a big deal about it. “Though I can’t say it is the typical SOLDIER scent. It’s how I can track them so well.” She gave a grin and narrowed her eyes. “Now then, I’m not sure if they have a nice change of clothes for you. But I am sure we can manage something simple from a second hand store. I can give you some money for that if you need it.” Not that she blamed him for wanting to change out of his uniform. Shinra betrayed him after all. Something she would never understand, since he was such an excellent employee. [break][break]
Zack watched as Cissnei paid, feeling a little guilty about it. Of course, he knew he would do the same if the roles were reversed. He would treat her to pay her back when he was back on his feet, so that also made him feel a little bit better. When the waitress came to get the money, she was a little taken back at how fast Zack had ate. He popped the last fry in his mouth and handed the plate to her with a wink before she took off again. When he was more stable and knew what was going on, maybe he would come back her to eat again and see if she was working...
Slamming the rest of his drink with a slight grimace, he smiled up at her. "I'm ready." Zack was really glad to have found her. If he hadn't, he wouldn't have a clue what to do next or where he would go. He was a social person, so he wouldn't hesistate to ask around, but this was a whole lot easier. With the information Cissnei had given him, he was sure if he asked someone to help, they wouldn't be confused. He had to guess that it happened quite frequently around here.
When Cissnei stated she could smell him from where she was, he stuck his tougue out at her. "Hey, I don't smell that bad. The waitress wouldn't have smiled like that if me if I did, so there." Zack was a child at heart, and mentally a lot of the time. His remarks definitely showed that.
The mention of second hand stores took him back. Gongaga wasn't a place with high end things. To be honest, a lot of his clothes were second hand. "Second hand is fine by me." Shoes especially were best that way since they were already broken in. Of course, you had to be careful with some things. He made a mental note to make sure to keep track of what she was spending on him so she could pay him back. "After you, m'lady."
[attr="class","infoNotes"]Cissnei will get you settled.
[attr="class","crashLyrics"]Boy Oh Boy
[attr="class","crashBody"] The waitress gave him a quick look for eating so quickly. Cissnei was just lucky that his appetite was not as voracious or else her gil may have disappeared more rapidly than intended. At Zack’s indication he was ready, she pushed herself out of her seat. Waiting a second for him to get up, she then went forward towards the exit. She gave a grin at his gest about not smelling bad. “That’s because you smell better than the briney pirates and rank adventurers here. She is probably intrigued by the new SOLDIER smell. But don’t worry. I can tell the difference.” [break][break] It was like hot-oil-in-the sun musk filled with ethereal mako. She would never miss it. [break][break] “Alright then, I will show you to the Sleeping Frog first.” With that, she started down the cobblestone street. It was crowded and full of the typical mix of locals and outside adventurers looking for work. As promised, within a couple blocks there was a little rundown inn made from brick and wood. It’s sign was a little dilapidated, but it was clear there was a gigantoad image drawn on it with little sleep bubbles. [break][break] Cissnei held the door for him as she peered inside. She turned her head to the left, then the right and finally she spotted someone doing some organizing underneath the country. “Hey Doreen!” She tried to be loud enough to make their presence known, but tried not to scare her. [break][break] “Oh! Hey! It’s been a while. Who’s your friend?” A middle-aged woman with dark hair rose from behind the counter. She wore a cotton dress and apron, with a pocket full of keys. [break][break] “This is Zack. Zack, this is Doreen.” She gave a slight smile and leaned along the counter. “Doreen, Zack here is willing to work for a room. Do you have anything available?” [break][break] “Hmm.” Doreen rubbed her chin in thought. “Can you fix a sign? Or do handyman work?” She asked Zack, eying him and his build.
