This blind dating event was starting off much better for Yuna than last year’s had, in that she wasn’t completely overwhelmed and hiding in a bathroom. She somewhat attributed it to the fact that last year had gone so well once she’d gotten over her nerves. Dating had never really been a possibility for her before with her fate so tied to the death of Sin, and coming to terms that she was free to do as she pleased now was difficult, to say the least. But Faris had been charming and charismatic, and if nothing else came of it, Yuna felt like she’d made a good friend in the process. He’d made it so much easier for her to try a second time, and she would always be grateful to him for that.
Maybe that was why she’d gone a little over the top in clothes shopping for the event with Celes and Jessie. The three had gone together for outfits in preparation for their dates, and Yuna had chosen something so different from her usual style that the only thing familiar she saw when looking in the mirror was the deep blue color and the flowing sleeves. Other than that, the skirt was shorter than she was used to, her stomach a little too exposed, the neckline a bit too low, and the boots a little too tall. Yuna felt like blushing whenever anyone looked her way as she stepped inside the Plaisir de Magicka, but she did her best to keep her head up and smile.
Maybe this wasn’t entirely “her,” but Yuna was there to have a good time and experiment to find out who she wanted to be away from Spira. There was nothing wrong with being out of her element when she was still searching for that.
Clutching the bright-red badge that she’d been given between her fingertips, Yuna looked around in awe at the brightly-colored stalls surrounded by shimmering lights and illusions. There were almost too many to choose from, and the place was so crowded that she was a bit at a loss over how to locate her date until she spotted a line of people leading up to a cleared-off windy area. Yuna’s lips parted a bit in surprise as she watched two people float up into the air, both girls giggling madly and clutching at each other’s hands. As she crept closer, the force of the wind made Yuna’s hair blow into strands around her face as if she were on the deck of an airship, and the ‘Flight Simulator’ sign over the stall gave her an idea.
If she couldn’t find the boy she was supposed to meet from the ground, then why not try the air?
The line was fairly long, but it moved quickly, and there was so much to see and observe around them that it didn’t feel like it had been very long before Yuna was presenting her badge to be scanned in exchange for a small crystal that she looked at curiously as she approached the wind tunnel. It seemed a little like the ones that Bartz and Faris used in exchange for their abilities, but she didn’t have long to ponder that before her body suddenly felt much lighter and she was swept up in the air.
Letting out a squeak of surprise and delight, Yuna did her best to arrange herself so her skirt wouldn’t blow up past her before she looked down at the festivities as she was swept up into the night sky. It had been crowded and noisy down below, but the sound was oddly hushed from up here. It almost felt like she’d left humanity entirely, and Yuna almost lost herself in somber thoughts before she remembered what she was supposed to be doing.
Scanning the crowd, Yuna looked from stall to stall until her eyes finally lit on a flash of red just as she started to slowly drift back towards the ground. The man attached to it had spiky blond hair, which made Yuna glance away with a blush. Had her dating sheet projected Tidus too much? Maybe it made sense that her partner preferences would always align with him, but she hoped that they weren’t too similar. Her goal wasn’t to replace Tidus. She’d probably never stop loving him. She just couldn’t spend a lifetime waiting for him when she might never be able to return to Spira.
Shyly glancing back over, Yuna gave the boy a small wave even though she couldn’t be positive that he’d seen her as her toes lightly touched the grass.
I'm gonna keep on keeping on the only way I know how
”Nice!”
Prompto leaned back, camera at his eye as he tried for the perfect tilted angle. His subject -- a carnival stall with pinned plush chocobos. Above it, a kind of sparkling hologram of a cartoon bird trotted along, sometimes shaking out its wings. Prompto waited for just the right moment then Snap!, he took the shot. He giggled to himself and looked down at his screen, flipping through the album. ”Oh yeah. That’s what I’m talking about!”
The scene was set in perfect atmospheric light. He’d accidentally shot it just in time for a burst of colored lights behind the tent, bursting up into the sky. It was funny how things lined up that way.
”Now for more sights.” He kept his camera in his hands as he looked around, eyes bright. He was still in awe at the place, all lit up with those holograms and the glittering lights. They were like fireworks except small and, he thought, magical. So cool. Down the street, there was a carousel, spinning slowly to the sound of tinkling fair music. The whole thing was like something he’d have dreamed up when he was a kid.
Or now. Man, it was all so exciting!
He wandered down the street, grinning so wide his cheeks hurt. It was cool just being here. Really cool and fun and it hadn’t cost him anything! He tried to keep his mind on that instead of how he’d got here. He’d only just showed up at the city when he’d heard about the festival and the sign-ups for The Voyage de Amour. Ignis and Gladio would have groaned at that, but Prompto thought it sounded romantic so he’d signed up in a heartbeat. Free food? Free fun? And a date?
His heart pounded at that last one. A date. He had no idea what awaited him, and that made his palms sweat. Would she like him? He hoped she’d like him. She had to like him, right?
Right. No way he’d strike out this time.
There was a great whoosh of air, and Prompto jumped, stopping to stare at the thing in front of him. It was like an air tunnel. It was like a great big fan thrusting someone up and up and up until they were floating there, shrieking with delight. Prompto fumbled for his camera and shoved it against his eye, calculating the right settings in an instant and snapping the picture. It was a girl. A really cute girl in a halter top and short skirt and she was flying. Prompto watched her for a while longer before he looked down at his camera, flipping through the pictures. There she was and it was beautiful. The shot! The angles! The lights! Then there was his subject who looked like a kind of fairy goddess, floating way up high and-
She wore a badge pinned to her front. It was red.
”Huh?” Prompto scrambled to look at his own badge, pinned among the other patches on his vest jacket. Red. Definitely red. He looked between his camera and his jacket a few more times before looking back up at the girl. She was on the ground now, and she was looking at him and she was smiling.
She waved.
Prompto’s face erupted into a grin as he laughed, thrusting a hand up in the air and waving it with his whole arm. ”Hey!” he called over the crowd before he hopped on his heel and jogged over to her. Alright, Prompto. Play it cool. Real cool.
He swallowed. Yeah. Cool. That was him.
”So, uh. I see you’ve got a badge.” Prompto pointed at it as he came to a stop then he pointed at his own. ”I’ve got one too. I guess...we’re a match?” He gave a little laugh before leaning back on his heel, one thumb looped into the pocket of his jeans. ”Unless I’m totally wrong. Which is cool. You look good. Real good!”Laying it on a bit thick, aren’t you?”Oh, uh. I’m Prompto! Yeah!” He held out a hand. ”Nice to meet’cha!”
The blond boy’s face lit up in a too-wide grin that was somehow still endearing as he raised a hand to wave back at her. Yuna’s heartbeat picked up a little with nerves as he started to jog his way through the crowd to come over and meet her. Still, she was so much less nervous than last year even though it was a busier setting and she felt more vulnerable outside of her normal clothes. She really needed to thank Faris properly sometime for being such a laid-back first date.
The boy slid to a halt in front of her, and Yuna instantly felt a little better as he went on a self-conscious ramble about how maybe they were a match but maybe he was wrong and that was cool too. He was clearly nearly as nervous as she had been at her first blind dating event, and somehow that made the situation feel infinitely more manageable.
“No, no! I think so too,” she reassured him, plucking at her own badge pinned to her blue halter. “Red, right? They said to find the person with the same color.” She had to confirm because he had a dozen other smaller trinkets pinned to his vest next to the badge, so she wanted to double-check that she had spotted the right one. Yuna didn’t mind though. She thought it gave him character. Not that he seemed to need much help with that. He really was cute between his anxious energy, the freckles across the bridge of his nose, and the way that his hair didn’t seem to be naturally spiky at all but held up with some kind of substance. Maybe it was magic? Yuna would have to ask later.
“Oh! Really?” Yuna flushed a little when he said that she looked good, and she glanced down at her outfit a little self-consciously. “It’s not my usual style, but...I thought it might be fun. Today.”
The boy introduced himself as Prompto--he seemed to jump between topics because he was so high-energy--so Yuna quickly nodded respectfully and dipped into a small bow. She found it hard to do the full Yevon prayer lately, but some things were just ingrained. “Nice to meet you, Prompto. I’m Yuna.” It was only while she was straightening up that Yuna realized he had stuck out a hand to shake.
“Oh!” Yuna had seen several hand-shakes since coming to Zephon. She felt that she knew the theory, so she took his hand with both of hers and gave it a solemn shake, confident that she was doing it correctly. She could tell that his fingers were a little calloused under his glove, but not in the same way that Tidus’ had been from handling a Blitzball for so long. Not even in the same way that Tidus had slowly developed new callouses from his sword, but she couldn’t place what else it could be from.
“Do you want to walk around the festival? I don’t even know where to start. There’s so much going on here,” Yuna confided with a smile as she released his hand, glancing past him to a food booth just over his shoulder. A delicious sweet smell was wafting through the air as the hologram of a moogle spun overhead, but Yuna reluctantly turned her eyes away and glanced down curiously at the device that Prompto was carrying around instead.
“I meant to ask what you were doing. That’s a machina, right?”
I'm gonna keep on keeping on the only way I know how
Prompto didn’t know Yuna well -- not yet anyway -- but as she met his grin with an awkward little smile of her own, Prompto knew one thing for certain. She was cute.
Like super cute. Major cute. Prompto was usually head over heels for a different kind of woman, the type that was older and more mature with a great body and who towered over him like a goddess, but he couldn’t help but feel his heart flutter at that smile. She took his hand in both of hers and shook it.
She looked kind of serious about it. And surprised. She’d looked a little more natural doing that bow from earlier. Was she some kind of nobility or something? Or maybe just really polite. Either way, she wanted to explore the festival. Which he was totally down for.
”Yeah! There’s tons of cool stuff around here! Like the lights and the games and the food.!” He made a noise of longing. ”I want to try everything! I’ve never seen anything like it!”
Because he didn’t belong here.
Because he’d been sent out of his reality, probably by some kind of daemon magic from a man that might have been a god or something a lot worse.
Nope. Not going there.
”Huh? You mean my camera?” He held it up in both hands from the strap around his neck. ”I was, uh. Taking pictures! You know, photographs?” He showed her a closer look then frowns. ”You don’t know anything about them either, do you? Well hey! Just means I get to show you, right?”
He hopped over to her side and flipped through the settings, opening up the album collection. ”So I look through this lens here. And then I snapshot whatever I’m looking at. It’s pretty cool. No biggie.” He passed the camera over so she could see his shots of the festival. They were good, if he said so himself, though not all of them were great. A lot of them were duplicates because sometimes the difference between mediocre and inspiring as in a few seconds of frames. Still, the park made a great subject, and he was proud of it anyway.
He showed her pictures of children laughing at game booths and a couple holding hands. He showed her shimmering still-frames of the holograms and a close-up of a musician in action. ”It’s pretty cool,” he said again. ”I like shooting stuff like this cause it’s something to always remember. It’s like right here, this moment, will keep on lasting forever.” He flipped through a few more before his last picture displayed on-screen.
The one of her, high in the air, flying like a fairy queen with her hair windswept around her and her eyes full shining like stars. Prompto choked and quickly closed out the album.
”Oh. Uh. Hey! We should get one! You know, a selfie?” He grinned at her, trying very hard to pretend he hadn’t been spying. ”Look! I’ll show you!” He turned the camera around, leaned in, and smiled. He took the shot of them both before flipping through the album again. ”See? Here we are!” He showed her their selfie. It was pretty good if he said so himself.
Prompto seemed enthusiastic about the idea of checking out the festival, and Yuna noted that he placed particular emphasis on the idea of the food. Maybe he was hungry? Yuna herself had been too nervous to eat much today, so she could understand the sentiment. “I haven’t seen a festival before either!” Sometimes there were celebrations after Blitzball tournaments, but they were nothing as grand as this. “At least not one so large…”
Sin had always put a damper on gatherings of too many people, but Yuna tried not to follow that train of thought. Dates probably shouldn’t start with a description of how her life’s goal had always been to die in order to defeat a sea monster. Thankfully Faris had taken that one in stride, but Yuna liked to think that she had learned a little since then.
“Camera,” Yuna echoed the strange word that Prompto used to describe his machina, but it didn’t ring any bells unfortunately. Her confusion must have shown on her face because he stepped closer to show her rather than explain it, so she gave him a grateful look before glancing down at the smooth glass screen on the back of the device.
It lit up suddenly, and Yuna gave a start, scanning the images as he flipped through them. The pictures showed booths and people from the festival happening all around them. They were like snapshots of a moment in time, and she found herself unable to look away. “That’s amazing! Machina can do incredible things. They’re like statues if they were exact replicas,” she mused out loud. “Or like sphere recordings if they were still…”
Yuna listened to why he liked taking photographs, smiling a little sadly when he said it could make a moment feel like it would last forever. “...That’s beautiful.” She knew the feeling well of wanting to stop time for a moment. It was why she had taken a secret sphere recording for her guardians during her pilgrimage, so she thought she could understand the appeal for Prompto. If cameras had been permitted on Spira, she might have liked one too.
Prompto exited out of his final picture so fast that Yuna was left blinking up at him in surprise. She thought that she’d recognized that blue skirt and halter top in the split second that it had been on-screen. “Was that-?...”
Unfortunately he didn’t give her much time to wonder as he hurriedly suggested that they take a selfie instead. “A...what?” The blond boy crowded in close to her and held up the camera. Yuna blinked up at it before realizing at the last second that he meant to take one of his snapshots, and she quickly smiled before there was the tiny sound of a shutter. Lowering the camera, he offered it to her for her to see. It had been well-timed--the glow from a nearby booth lit up Prompto’s eyes and complimented the freckles dotted along his nose and cheeks. Yuna herself was startled to see how striking her different colored eyes were. They never stood out that much when she was just looking in a mirror.
“You’re good at this.” Yuna adjusted her long earring before smiling up at him. “Thanks for showing me. Machina wasn’t really...allowed where I’m from, so this is all still new to me.” She felt a little embarrassed at the admission, so she quickly reminded herself that Prompto was hungry and pointed towards the booth that had been giving off an attractive sweet smell.
“Want to split one? My treat.” She pointed to the badge that had been loaded with points a little teasingly before popping over to look at what they were offering. There were pastries of every size and shape, and Yuna had to resist from pressing against the glass to get a closer look at a spiral-shaped one covered in icing.
Okay but how is this the most adorable thing ever?
I'm gonna keep on keeping on the only way I know how
Prompto looked at Yuna, waiting for her reaction. He hoped she liked it. He’d spent a lot of time getting better with a camera, and he didn’t mind showing it off to Noctis or Ignis or whoever, but this was different. Photography was his art, and it made his heart race thinking about someone so cute looking over the photos he’d taken. They were like a part of his soul if he was getting poetic about it which he guessed he was.
Did girls like photography? Ah man, he hoped so.
After a long time of waiting that was really a short time, she looked up at him and smiled. ”You’re good at this,” she said, and he felt his heart soar.
”You think so?” He felt like he was hanging on a string pulled straight to her. Like a fish on Noctis’ line except a lot less deadly and with a lot fewer metal hooks. ”I don’t know what machina is. Like machines? I’m real big on tech so I could probably show you some other stuff sometime. If you’ve ever got any questions, just let me know!”
Did girls like tech? Not in his experience, but maybe she’d be the exception. Since she was new to it and all.
They moved down the street, and Prompto couldn’t help but look around, starry-eyed, at all the lights and people and sound. He heard a balloon pop and grinned as a teenage boy won something from a festival booth from throwing darts and then he took his prize -- a big stuffed chocobo -- and handed it to what was probably his girlfriend, and she squeezed it, cooing something back at him.
He’d have to try that. Dart throwing? Right up his alley.
Yuna led them straight to a booth with pastries that smelled just as good as they looked. He felt his mouth water even through the glass, and he grinned. ”Sure! I mean, guess it’s not our money, right? So it’s not like you shouldn’t pay. I think boys are supposed to though on dates. That’s like. Polite and stuff.”
But then it got all mixed up because she’d offered. Should he have offered faster? Probably, but he hadn’t thought about it.
He followed her eye to a tray full of glazed buns that hit him with instant nostalgia. ”Oh, those look like cinnamon rolls! Except I think there’s some kind of fruit on it. I bet they’re really good!” He looked at her, almost bouncing from excitement. ”Let’s split one! Then maybe we can hit up some of the games? I bet you I could win you a prize. I’ve got a sharp eye for shooting!”
Prompto had apparently never heard of machina before, but that wasn’t too surprising away from Yevon and its teachings. The excitable boy at her side hadn’t said anything to confirm one way or another yet if he was from Zephon originally, but he didn’t act at all like someone from Spira even if he had come from somewhere else.
“They’re specific types of machines. Just the ones that were banned by the religion where I’m from,” Yuna explained a bit sheepishly. For how long she had grown up with those beliefs, it was still hard to admit how arbitrary they were. Even after everything she’d done to cast Yevon aside. “Thank you so much for offering though. I can be a bit...confused by it. Even now. Having someone I could go to for questions would be great.”
Was that too forward? He had offered, but he probably hadn’t come here to be saddled with a teacher position. Yuna felt her cheeks grow a bit hot, and she was glad when he seized on the pastry stand that she had suggested instead of continuing that line of thought.
“Boys always pay?” Yuna asked, genuinely curious as she tilted her head to the side. “What if he doesn’t have as much money? That seems like it would limit dates to the wealthy.” It seemed like a strange concept. True, she’d never dated much on Spira since she’d been too focused on her goal of becoming a summoner, but she’d never heard of such a thing before. Maybe it was different on Spira when anyone could lose their life savings at any moment if Sin chose to come calling.
Yuna wasn’t sure what a cinnamon roll was, but Prompto’s excitement was infectious and the pastries smelled delicious anyway. “One please,” Yuna beamed at the woman behind the counter, handing her badge over before latching onto the rest of what the boy next to her had proposed.
“You can shoot?” Maybe that explained the tiny callouses that had dotted his fingers. Yuna had no real interest in the bulky rifles that the Bevelle guards used, but she’d been secretly fascinated by pistols ever since she’d seen a few Al Bhed wield them. They were so sleek and fast, and she thought that might compliment Prompto well since he was so lanky. “I’d love to see! I’ll do my best too,” she promised, clasping her hands together determinedly before realizing that the woman working the booth was trying to hand her the badge back.
“Oh! Thank you." Clipping it back to her halter top, Yuna took the small plate that was almost completely filled by the pastry and grabbed two disposable forks in her other hand. “Um...Let’s see…” There were tables in the center of the carnival that had been set up so people could sit and eat, but all of them seemed to be full as far as Yuna’s eyes could see, and she didn’t want to make anyone else feel pressured to hurry up anyway.
“Shall we improvise?” She asked Prompto, dropping to her knees in the grass in a quiet corner behind a row of booths. Holding the cinnamon roll between them, she offered him one of the forks with a smile."So what do you do around here, Prompto?"
[attr=class,lyric1]gonna keep on keeping on the only
[attr=class,lyric2]way i know how
[attr=class, bulk] Yuna was excited, which was cool. And she didn’t mind paying for stuff either which was even cooler. She seemed pretty confused about the whole thing, and Prompto couldn’t help but laughing over it. ”Yeah, that’s kind of weird, isn’t it? When you say it like that. But you know, it’s what a lot of girls expect. I think. Maybe?”
Ah man. Was that a confession that he’d never been with a girl before? He hoped she wouldn’t notice.
Thankfully, there were cinnamon rolls to eat and they looked really good. It was just about the most distracting thing he’d ever seen besides his company who was looking so happy that his heart kept skipping beats. ”Yeah, I can shoot! I’ll show you my guns sometime. Er. Maybe not in the festival though.” He gave her a sheepish grin. ”If you, uh. Want to hang out with me again! Just, you know, if you felt like it!”
Smooth, Prompto, real smooth.
Yuna took the cinnamon roll, and if it had looked good behind the glass, it looked especially good now. It was fruity and gooey and so hot that the glazing was melting. Prompto didn’t know what that topping was, but it looked good and smelled even better. ”Oh man.” Prompto suppressed a groan of longing. ”That looks amazing!”
Yuna didn’t bother with a table. There weren’t any tables around anyway, but she didn’t bother hunting for one. Instead, she just plopped right on the ground, and Prompto grinned even wider and hopped down next to her, legs crossed. ”It’s like a picnic!” he said. ”Except without the blanket or, uh. Anything but a cinnamon roll!” He didn’t know. He’d never really been on a picnic. Just campfires which were cool too.
Prompto took a fork then almost snatched up a bite of cinnamon roll before he stopped, using every bit of his restraint to pull his fork back and smile at her instead. ”You go first!” he said. ”Before I get it all messy!”
If that wasn’t chivalry, he didn’t know what was.
What did he do around here? Wasn’t that the question. ”I’m uh. Looking for some friends!” He wanted to keep up his high energy, upbeat, fun-time voice, but he felt it slip a little. ”Didn’t know if they’d be here or not, but I thought it was a good place to try. Then, you know, why not have some fun while I’m here? This place is seriously cool.”
He tapped his hands on his knees. ”Oh, I guess I hunt monsters too. That’s more a ‘what you do around here’ thing, isn’t it?”
[attr=class, bulk] Prompto didn’t seem to mind sitting in the grass with her, which Yuna took to be a positive sign. Her life had been spent alternating between the solemn walls of the Besaid Temple and the blaring sunshine outside, so she wasn’t sure that she’d get along well with someone who minded the outdoors. She did have to giggle a little at his comment that it felt like a picnic though, since it was really just them and the cinnamon roll.
“Do you spend a lot of time outside? We always ate like this in my village. Tables were usually low to the ground inside. Or we’d just be around the campfire in the center…” She truly did miss Besaid, even if she hoped that the village would grow and change without the doctrines that had always held it back. Life there had been slow and calming, even with all the stress of training to become a summoner. Yuna had never found another place like it.
Shaking her head, Yuna tried to turn her thoughts away from the past and back towards the boy in front of her. It wasn’t particularly hard when Prompto was practically vibrating with energy as he eyed the pastry in the middle, though he very sweetly offered her the first bite. Her heart went out to him a little since he seemed self-conscious about making a mess, so she gave him a small smile before picking up her fork.
“Here.” Yuna very delicately cut the cinnamon roll in half, though she snuck Prompto a little extra. She liked when he was excited, and he was terribly skinny anyway. “Now you can be as messy as you want,” she informed him before following her own advice and picking it up with her fingers before taking a bite. It was gooey and sweet and warm and everything that Yuna had wanted, and she melted a little on the inside as she finished the first bite. “This is amazing! We might need another before the night’s over,” she admitted, digging into the rest as Prompto explained what he was up to in Torensten.
Yuna had to pause when Prompto said that he was here looking for some friends. She recognized that slightly dejected expression, and she nodded gently as she briefly put down her pastry. “I know the feeling...I’m sorry. I really hope you manage to find someone.” Or that he had better luck than she had, at any rate. “What are their names? I can’t promise anything, but I’ve been here for over a year.” She could at least keep her eyes and ears open once she returned to Provo in case his friends had gone further north.
Prompto admitted that he was also a monster hunter, and Yuna brightened a little at the lighter subject. “Really? That sounds dangerous, but I’m not surprised if you know how to shoot,” she said with a slight smile. It reminded her of her own work with the Dragonblades, and she liked Prompto well enough so far to extend the offer out loud. “We actually get some jobs like that sometimes. I help out with a mercenary guild called the Dragonblades. If you’re ever in Provo and looking for a job, maybe we could do one together.”
It suddenly occurred to Yuna that she was being incredibly forward, and that killing a dangerous creature probably didn’t qualify as a great second date. Her cheeks flared a little hot, and she averted her eyes down towards her cinnamon roll a little sheepishly. “Ah...No pressure of course! Just a thought.”
[attr=class,lyric1]gonna keep on keeping on the only
[attr=class,lyric2]way i know how
[attr=class,bulk] Yuna was a goddess.
Prompto’s eyes widened as she had the most brilliant idea in the world. Splitting the cinnamon roll in half. He noticed that it wasn’t quite in half and that he’d gotten a little extra, but he wasn’t sure if it was rude to say so. Like, what if she just wasn’t good at cutting things in half? Anyway, he ended up with a little more and he didn’t have to worry about messing the whole thing up! He watched as the fruity topping oozed over the size in a smooth glaze and he swallowed as his stomach growled.
When had he last eaten something? It had been a while, hadn’t it? Didn’t have much gil nowadays.
Yuna picked up the pastry with her fingers. With her fingers! Prompto laughed and did the same thing, grinning. Even camping out in the middle of nowhere, Ignis wouldn’t have liked him making a mess like this, but Yuna was different. She was cool. She was…
Really enjoying that pastry. Prompto followed suit, bracing himself for impact as he took his first bite.
”Uggggh!” Prompto leaned back, overcome by the sweet, hot, fluffy, fruity, roll of ecstasy that overtook him. ”So good!” He was getting sugary glazing all over his fingers and gloves, but he didn’t really care. He’d find a hose or something later probably.
They were talking about his friends now. Right. That’s what he was looking for, wasn’t he?
Right.
Prompto chewed slowly and then swallowed. ”Yeah. I, uh. I’ve got three friends I’m looking for most. There’s Gladio and Ignis. Then….Noctis.”
For the briefest moment, he imagined that it was Noctis here beside him, sitting on the ground with a pastry split between them. He imagined that they were wandering around the fair together, laughing as Prompto snapped just about a million selfies and tried to sneak in his best shots when Noctis was posed particularly cool and wasn’t looking. What would Nocits say if he was here right now?
He’d have loved it.
”We fought monsters together most of the time. And daemons, but I haven’t seen any of those here which is real weird. It’s like, the thing that most people are afraid of back home. You don’t go out at night. That’s when the daemons are out.”
Why was he talking about daemons? He was at a fair! He should be having fun!
Right?
”Seriously? You’d give me a job like that?” Prompto grinned at her then stopped, messing with his hair and rubbing at the side of his head. ”Another mercenary guild, huh? I was saved by somebody who runs one in Provo. Alex. He’s a real weird dude, but he helped me out a lot so…
